- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's get it.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the desk on show.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: We had meaningful conversations about life through the lens, a fatherhood.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's four fathers, those with fathers and the father less than nobody's left out.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: These are the conversations I want my sons and accents as they grow through life in the manhood, so no topics of limits.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm your only host, but we got there.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: I say the incredible David Manjoen, you please say the doing in the building.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: How you feeling?
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, man?
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: How you doing, brothers?
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm good, man.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Good to see you.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it's great to see you, brothers.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Looking clean.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad I'm glad I'm here, brother.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in what you're doing, brothers.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: Now I appreciate that.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's still, I'm working on, I'm working on receiving that in real time.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, what?
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's not about me.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: So see you get already.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Already, it's not about me, man.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Was, how you feeling for real, bro?
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: What should we going like?
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it's been going good, man.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's been some, some up and down moments, but it's been some, it's been some good stuff this week.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Some good stuff this week.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Kids on spring break like my, man, right?
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, you know, I like being around my kids.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, I'm one of them days to just love.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: being around the kids.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: And after too long, I got to be, you know, I'm where they had, they coming back home, D3, that's my son, David and Jada.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: What time they gonna get here?
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm the one checking the bus and make sure they get on it out.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the dad taxi.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was checking them to school.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was telling you before my oldest son is around the corner at a trade school and Lincoln Tech.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I get up in the morning, I take
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: the fifth and seventh grade of the school.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, try to get some work done.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: Take my son to school at one.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Come here.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Work.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: Pick my son home.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Go back and down the way.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you for real, take it.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: Drop him over for real.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: Drop him off at work because he was, he got his license now, but he, he a little, he was a little hesitant that's up behind the wheel, which is a whole, it's a weird thing.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Bro, that is weird because my daughter is the same way when I was 15.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted the wheels immediately.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: 13 and eight months of Virginia.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: I had all the paperwork ready for my dad when he got over.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, let's DMV, let's get to it.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my daddy went trying to hear him.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: My daddy went taking us to no more practices than none of that.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: Once we got the hate, he was like, nah, oh, this is gonna give me a break.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: I ain't gotta get y'all going to do what y'all need to do.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Here go the car.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Bro, that's the first thing I'm trying to work on it
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: The bottom of my frustration is, it's my fault because I just let them be.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: We moved around a lot.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: We've been here for eight years.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the longest.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: We've been in the current house for six years.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is the longest they lived anywhere because of my career.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: We were around DC.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: We went overseas and came back.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then COVID hit when we got settled.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: So they were a little like kind of disoriented.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I did that with my first child.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, with Jayda, I shared to her a lot.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: She was kind of secretly baby.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: So she was sick a lot.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, I feel like I can lose this child.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: I did everything in my power to make sure she was super protected.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: I just sheltered, but I don't think I even let her spend the night in nobody's house.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: I go nowhere for the first two, three years.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, she's good now.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: She's great now.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: She's great now, but I can tell the effects of me sheltering her when I was in.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Because with my son, my youngest.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't let him flip off trees and mountains and everything else.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was just like the second one that was like, oh, you good, get up, and he's a lot tougher for it.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's a lot tougher for it, and I regret it.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: She's super responsible.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: But how old is she 16 16 16 16 next week.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like I was saying we got 22 2018 12 and 11 and we had two girls first So I was super soft.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, my son came along and you know my my listeners are tired of him But that's story a question time yeah, but um
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: How, how, man, I didn't even, I didn't know we were going to start there, but since you said it, how was it, how did you get through the phase of managing a child, where you weren't sure about, you know, they outcome?
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it was tough because it was just so
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of the things to where we had to just work.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it really tested our marriage because she was always super tired.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I was always gone.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: So at that moment, I was just jumping into the music industry really, really tough.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I just started working with my parents.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I was always going bro.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it was just tough on her.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Who's tough on my wife?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I give us so much respect.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I do the things that I do when we respect this so much is because she was there while she was doing a lot of this crying and just couldn't just get her together.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: But it was one of them, it was a hard moment, man.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: It was some hard times, bro.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: I remember us going and staying at the hospital for 90 to the time, always.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mean, it was a problem from day one, from even during the pregnancy.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: I was having a shoot my wife with an IV every three weeks, two weeks.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: And it was just, it was stuff the whole time, the whole pregnancy.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I was just worried.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: And, um,
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: I even remember them saying that it was a possibility that she could, you know, be sick or have down syndrome or, you know, autistic.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: So once, you know, I just got the prayer lawyer just together, you know, my mom was praying and praying for it.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it was, it was one of the, it was a rough time and I ain't going to, it was a rough time.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: I, I, we almost fell out and got the voice on, on several occasions in the during that moment, because just me being absent and I'm putting work first, you know, and I've, I've been, I've been guilty of that, uh, and I kind of had to acknowledge.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: that situation, you know, key word, key word guilty.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I was about to ask about that.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: How did you have you to give me yourself?
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: I have, I have it more than in one way because I won't say squandered opportunities although this is your story, my story.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Because I had a huge issue, the reason why I see, I see, because I, me and my family when I say my family, I'm being my mom and my dad.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen my mom and my dad work.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: work and today couldn't work.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: Just can't just still work and still work.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I had a huge issue with my father for a long time because he worked through everything, you know.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not, it's not until recent that I've had the opportunity to actually see because I completely quit working with my parents because of it.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: But like, I just, I just was like, you know, I need more time with, you know, my family.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: They're suffering because of it.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: The first two, three years of my kid's life's broth was gone.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: I was gone.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: I enjoyed the time because we was traveling.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: We was hitting the road, taking me to the king and just hit.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like, to go.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: We gone, you know, it was like we was going.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: We was at everybody church there weekend.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: and then it was like everybody's tour and then it was just like, you know, the film and then the movies and then the TV stuff and then it was like, then we got our own reality show and it was just like work.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: It was his work, you know?
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm playing, like, you know, I told my dad, you know?
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: When there's enough enough, you know, we fell out for almost two to three years, you know.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: I went as enough enough.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it was horrible, horrible moment, looking back at it now.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: after I given it, like he was like, oh, it's all gone.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: And the bills are still due, bro.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what it seemed like.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: I had to realize it seemed like weekly.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like I said, monthly growing up, like my weekly.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I had to, I had to realize, man, you know, it's, he's, he's doing what he got to do, you know?
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: And it took until he, you know what I'm saying, you know?
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: And it's only something certain amount of time, you know?
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I struggle with that on some days I believe I've forgiven myself completely some days I still wear that guilt because I knew that I wasn't what I was supposed to be in the house but the job gave me the satisfaction
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: up a false sense of satisfaction that I'm accomplishing something.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I just kind of put my all into it.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: So we talk about your dad was going going going in the and you kind of assume that character is the two going going.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: Stink is a cautionary tell for me.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I keep telling the story on here is that, um, man, you, you be careful with you how you define success, right?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Define loosely you'll find more of it, yeah, right.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I, you know, I was looking and I was like, man, I got a, I got to be a millionaire before I'm 30.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: And, and I just I had a cousin past, man.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: He was a 17 I want to say Christian was, but he passed, man.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I like to think about what's.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like man, there's, he had no time.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: The man didn't get married.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't see anything, you know?
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what I value more than anything over a dollar amount now is just the time.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: We've had some health scares in my family for my dad, my mom.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: You've had some major health scares.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: And we made it through COVID, you know, some just crazy stuff.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I was just thinking, like, what if they were to die then?
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what if they were to been out then?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, I really value the time now more than anything, but I respect everything he's done as a father.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: I respect it.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: I can't say I was in that same mind state at 20 and 18 and but as a 37 year old man now with the family with the family here.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: I understand I didn't learn to appreciate my dad until I had a family and he was very accessible.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have any crazy story about him not being there.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: The conflict that I created was it had a very religious household and I didn't like the rules rules.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: I understand it now.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: I have a family that you got to have a standard.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: But that that was the kind of the crux of me creating distance with my postman.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm interested in your perspective in terms of sharing your parents with the world.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: spreading the gospel, how does it feel to this day?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about it.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: I struggle with that to this day, bro, because a lot of people think that we have everything, you know, and it's, you know, the saddest part about it is when people think you got it and you really don't, it sucks.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: it hurts because there's moments where my bills wouldn't get in pain, you know, I wouldn't, you know, boil an out of control, you know, doing those type of things, but
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: Or as a child just being sad because it's just like man bro, well, he's missed a game or he's missed this or he's missed that or senior night is here and he ain't out here.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I struggle right now bro with sharing my parents with everyone.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's because we missed out on so much bro.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, we...
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do like you know what do you say or what is there like I guess at a point in time you won't as a child you just want to be selfish Yeah, that's my mom and daddy.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'll draw on them out.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know it's like
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: When we go, I need some time to be able to go in and speak to him or say what I need to say or even just do an emotional dump.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing, man, children, children, it's, it's, I don't think any child can reconcile the fact that their parent isn't there for any reason at all.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: They're just not there.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: When you become an adult and you look back and you have responsibilities and you've got to make tough decisions.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: You can start to appreciate it differently before a child, man.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, you're there, you're not.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: And having adult children and young children at the same time, I see the things that I was like, man, I would hear, I would be listening to stories.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: that I was a part of and not even realized I was because my mind was was so focused on trying to be successful trying to get to the next thing the next trip yeah and I'm just kind of existing for a while yeah and then and you said you said some earlier use like what I created you know this is
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I had to realize, man, this is different, man.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's different now because I'm a grown man.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: In certain issues and topics that I can't just address as a child now because I'm a grown man.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's these issues.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be something different now, right?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if I come to you like this.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: at 37 versus 13.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's different.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: This is different.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he's also had to learn how to address me even my mother.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Dress me as a grown individual.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I just avoid anymore.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm a grown man with kids now.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: And we,
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: like I said, we have navigated through this space and it's been phenomenal.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: I've, I've, I've been joined the space that we're in now.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: This is like, you know, I can call them and say, hey, Brad, that was sorry, bro, don't do that.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna come on.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you're all that, like, we have these open to that conversation.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: We have a great,
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: line of communication.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: Very dope versus two, three years ago, bro.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was, it was bad.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: What was the change?
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like what, what, what brought it to the place where it is now improving?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Time, bro.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: I just realized, bro, I called him before we started the year last year, 25.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: Told him I was like, hey man.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: We ain't got another, we ain't got another 30 years
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, you know, it's not promise that I got another 10, which, you know, so I just need to make the best of, you know, 10, I need you here because this is the first time ever me and my father.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: There's been a male in our family that's been raised by two generation of me saying.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: For the first, and I don't know your outside of him, he's the first side that we know of in a John's family where a father had his father and a son at the same time at the same time.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: And wow, it's never been that for us.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: So did he know his father?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: your dad Lewis father it was actually televised we actually we did that on the reality show okay he made his father he he knew of him yeah but he really didn't know him got it so I think my dad maybe can count on one hand how many times he had interaction with his father the reason I was asking is because with what clicked in my mind when I became an adult was
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: So he navigated manhood without that, let alone how a man should raise another man.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: So when I'm coming to the manhood, I have way more sense than bucket my dad, not because of physical thread or anything.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: I just had that kind of reverence from my father.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: I never wanted to, I can't wait to size you up, square none of that.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I didn't want anyone as a base.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want his information, I didn't want none of that.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: And to only later find out how much alike, how much more similar we are than dissimilar, I just didn't know he had a pace.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: Because you don't meet your parents in the pace.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right, you don't meet your parents in the pace.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: You don't meet your parents in the pace.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like the conversation we had because of this platform, I'm like 40, he's 71 at the time.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like,
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: 25 years ago, this would have been fantastic information.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: Great, Stan, and see, I don't want to miss those moments.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: And we've had conversations about those moments.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: And it's been, it's been some great.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's been some fallout moments, man, because I don't told him, he don't tell me about myself and he doesn't tell, and I don't tell him about this, yeah.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, I'm, I have no, like everything that my dad taught me as a male bro.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: My dad showed me how to be a man, bro, from changing tires to using the screwdriver, to using the drill, picking up a shovel.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't the time, I mean, he's raised a lot of men.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: And what I mean by that is my God, brother, some of my friends.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: He showed people how to be a man.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: When you came to our house in the summertime, bro?
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody was working.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: We was working, bro.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: I, I, I, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I'm just trying to, I
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: and being able to do that and navigate that is a big deal and I didn't realize it until I start being in the room with other males.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard for another male to be able to sit in the room for an eight nine hours and work with a person until they can pleatly dog tire and not bite each other's heads up.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: And he showed me how to do that.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it would be some of us to where we would be outside and y'all would be like, this is Mr. Brown.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: I can't believe if you're not here knowing this, but man, I'm talking about digging trees.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm talking about building retainer walls, five, six feet tall, and we did it on our own.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: He showed, we've done a lot of things as a team.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, I greatly appreciate that part
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: or unstoppable when it comes to being a team.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: When we do stuff, you got this side, I got this side, you go this way, I'm gonna go this way.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like we know automatically what the other one is doing, you know.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: Have your home, are you going to race here?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I'm here, this is her.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: When did you understand who your parents were to the world?
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: How young were you at that time?
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: Do you, your earliest member?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: I've never not known in a time.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: If you can go back on a lot of the Kirk Franklin videos, he can handle it.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: If you know he can't say, yeah, that's me holding the Mike Kirk doing the Mike like, we've always been around it.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I've seen some of the greatest gospel artists come up, I've seen them make it.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen, you gotta think, I've seen Kirk Franklin drive.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: His first BMW, I've seen Tyler Perry, you know, from the very jump, from the very beginning.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when he was driving the, the, the first Mercedes, you know, those are the times I've seen a lot, bro.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: And from one of my first big memories of just really knowing, because my parents are considered for what work legends from a long time ago.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: My dad has always been able to make people laugh from the boy of a shop.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: to the stage so I mean when I really that really I high moment is when they started doing the plays it was just a turnaround man it was going out it was like man that's brown that's brown and because it just took the world by storm and you know that was like underground kings it was like underground rap before underground rap so having like
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: And they took over Livin' Room by Livin' Room, and we couldn't go nowhere without them being recognized.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: What was the upside to that?
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: How did that experience shape how you see life now?
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: It was a blessing in the curse for me.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you had Joe select few people that wanted to just be around to see what it was like.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, it was good, man.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: I ain't gonna stunt like we, you know, I mean, my sister's had our own identities.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, in it.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we, you know, we can't,
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: I was crazy and funny too in high school and my sister had, my sister, my younger sister, just as funny too, man, and my older sister's a huge rider.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like she's a pin, so we all had a little, you know, and then I have another sister that's a very great, she's a great singer.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: She's actually on Broadway in New York now, so, I mean, we've had some, you know, some good
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: Was it was the, was the family business mandatory or did everybody just kind of gravitate to it because first it was mandatory, he made, I'm a fan, I'm a fan, he made my big sister do it, I'm a fan, he made my big sister do it, but me and my younger sister was, you know, and we all of us did it to kind of recoup on time.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um, a lot of it was just to recoup on time because we missed, but we, we don't been, you know, help raise by a lot of our family members, you know, choose my granny, my, my aunt.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: Shout out to Ain't Do, shout out to my granny, my sister, my cousin Sonia.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it's been several people that contributed to raising us in those little small moments.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, it was cool.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's so cool.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you said you are, um,
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: You miss you, you start the way from, I guess, the breaking down directly with them for a time.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like what, what do you, so now, man, I do, I do a lot of DJs, I do a lot of, like, production work on the side and.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: to be real with you, man.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: I just really enjoy DJing and MCing just different crowds.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: I just him 500.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: I just DJ for him and his uh he has a tour out right now.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: was business entrepreneur summit and it was phenomenal, bro.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I just came off of that.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually by the store who posted, um, dream.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm actually, um,
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: I just got too caught with, I'm actually by the do of another tour with my parents.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: I actually doing a little relationship tour.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: And we reunite on this tour, man.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: We getting back, you know, it'd be cool it's gonna be good and it's gonna be fun.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: I want you and your wife to come, actually.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let me know.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: We, uh, my wife and I actually celebrate in 21 years of marriage in 10 days and 10 days and I opposed that I meant to post a couple of days ago and it slipped my mind.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was just thinking like, man, 20 years is a long time.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: and also a very short amount of time.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: And he's broke.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: Incredible.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: What amount of time?
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's a blink twice.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: And he's here.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: And he's here.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, can't you just remember when you thought it was this boy?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: I remember when being my wife had time for each other.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: When it was front of my when it was easy when pressure, no, pressure, no.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then you look up if you're not
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: You start to see space, and if you don't do anything about the space, you get used to the space.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, and it's so many ups and downs, that's what I'm even getting used to now as a man.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now become the older man, I'm all more 40 now, it's like, you know, I ain't this cold as I once was, my stroke game, man, it's cold as it once.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know, I see that caught me with my teens, my 20s, you know, now that we're about to be in the fall, they're like, man, glory day, don't forget to glory day, the glory day, the glory day, the glory day.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, you know, I'm, you know, I'm, I'm enjoying it, man.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, you been, I like being married for 16 years.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: 16, what's on it?
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it'll be 16 as you.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what's the biggest thing that marriage has taught you about you?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: Mirage actually made me see who I am.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, somebody said that before.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, Mirage made me really see sometimes, this is like, bro, get out of the way.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can be self-centered at times.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: Move and just you know I'm saying and then it makes you it makes you realize like man this person loves your dirty drows That part so shut up, you know all the way up.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah That's the way that's where really that's what really really makes me you know because I love the one Man, you know
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: I can't, I can't do a day without it, you know, without it because it's just to see telling me everything I need to do, you know, where I need to be, I thought this was at 230, you know, all of that, all of that good stuff, yeah, and I enjoy it, man, I really enjoy it, man.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: What kind of a, what kind of father would you, with each kid say you are?
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I know my daughter would probably be like a protector.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: She would say I was a protector father.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: My son probably would say I was a fun father.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and um, I proud myself on being an enjoyable dad.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard for me to be the bad guy with them, you know.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I know sometimes I have to be.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm much rather smile with them than be angry.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I know sometimes it takes those anger moments, but I got some good kids, bro.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: I got some really good kids.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have no trouble out of my kids.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: They make good grades.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: I got some good kids, man.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just blessed to have them in my life, bro.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: Some great kids.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: and today's society, men is really tough because they have so much to deal with, when I'm just self-esteem and access to everything and you know, I never really acknowledged those things because I never really had those type of issues.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it was really hard for me because I've always been
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: The popular dude, I've always been the athlete.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: I've always been that person.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: And when one of your kids has issues on that, on those type of points, it's really tough for you.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: It really drained me.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mean, I don't want to not do from my baby girl.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just like,
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: with a T. I say thought prevention hours and like I've won.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't want her searching still to pull baby.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like I'm.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we've got my.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: He too.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: I want to make sure that I put in those.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: that time bro.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because I don't want my daughter searching for an NGO job in the old.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's an that's important to me.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's important to me because even now, bro, she's he was time in certain areas and I got to make sure I make myself available to somebody will somebody with somebody.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: I came to this show to be out in the whole bunch of stuff for me and it's not playing.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: We have the conversation a couple of years ago talking about this very thing.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I had to acknowledge that I'm not sure that I want my daughter to marry a me.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: Young me.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: This is me.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you're liking it.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Is it 18 year old me?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes it's, it is for me.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: I found it extremely challenging with girls.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: Because I was a guy and I know I know where my intent was at that time.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: then my daughters, they're different.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: So my oldest daughter saw fit for us to be grandparents.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a grand daughter, it's about me too.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: So she's experienced life in the way to his change.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now she sees things.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: The daughter under her, I've always championed how responsible she is.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I've almost over indexed on that
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: now my fear is that she go buck wild because because you have been so I was so lost all that all right right she just she just got into a program their guarantees have been sent to into medical school she wants to be a doctor and she's always chosen the responsible thing
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like man, I don't know, I don't, I don't understand life not having been ignorant for a fee.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that's me.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't, I don't want that for her.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's like man, I'm there with my son.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: He, he doesn't seek danger, which is cool.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm also like man, y'all.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to be, you don't want to mix nothing up.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: But, but.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: all in all, man, I'm trying to, I've been learning and adjusting to parenting them for who they are.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, and that's what, that's, that's super important.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I had, um,
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was God telling me, because I had a whole heap of arrogance when I was younger.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: I had 18, 19 year old me.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: You really couldn't tell me too much and I'm not about me.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think it was just a piece of humble pie even now.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: like, you know, I've been humble.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like shoes.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: Life will do it.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm at right now a clock.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm humble.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, most humble I've been as well as they're like shoes.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: If nobody can do it, life can do it.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, shoes I'm coming.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: come and straight from humbleville to let y'all know that life can do it for you know life can do it for you and even even with my daughter man it's just like my son I'm coming this and
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: This and he that he just started it said, you know, he he I was he's always been that yeah, and it's like my daughter She's she doesn't want us you don't want too much attention on seeing I write moody camera now.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: All right back on up She's just not she's not that type of person yeah, and it's like man It's just like she's in high school and she wants a hint of it.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: She just wanted I just want a little bit of it
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just give me a little bit of it.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want a lot.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: Just give me a little bit of it.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just been it's been home because you know, you're not that social butterfly, you know, you kind of high behind the crowd.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just praying.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, they don't know why I try to take advantage of my baby.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: How different is your children's life from your childhood?
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it's super, super different because we, we so hands on bro, we super hands on, like, uh, like you said, I, I take my son to practice every morning.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm, um, my parents was just so focused on making a career happen.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I think this, that's the difference that I'm trying to,
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: I want to make the day career happen.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and that's what that's when I'm focused on, bro, and I'm not saying no flag to my parents, but it was just they was chasing a dream, bro, and it's no flag, but that's what they was doing.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, and I'm just thankful that we in the position of where we can do, you know, what we can and because they put me in this position of what I can do for my kids more than they could do for us.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if if not, then they didn't do what
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: What dream are you chasing at this point and I want to see them successful?
- 35:18[SPEAKER_00]: Mike, no I mean let me clarify that we're dream for you are you chasing for you.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I understand what you was about to say.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: Struggle with that because I won't nothing more than them to be successful.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like I got the God on his true to you.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be hard for me when my kids move out.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: I understand you, I agree because I've dealt myself so much into them.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's tough.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: It is that an end, though.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: I like your thing and then be successful or to make more comfort.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Then be successful and what for you.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm struggling with it.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I mean, I ask the questions out really because you you making me think because I I just don't I haven't even I haven't even thought that for because I'm so Bearing into their success
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: that is tough to see myself, you know, I almost feel like I'm being selfish, you know, in a sense.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think it's because of what you experience when you were younger like you?
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, I just,
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: I want it to happen for that.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, me too.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: I get, I'm not, I'm not suggesting that what you saying is off by any stretch, I just know like through this process being, being, um, ejected from corporate and, you know, having put 20 years of focus there, only to understand, I don't really know who I am without this job.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I said, so then that's what that's what I just dealt with, bro.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: Trying to find what my thing is.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: I had to come to terms with that, it's an end for me, because me folks in outside of me, all of my energy leaves me kinda empty.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then like, how can I even, how can I tell my kids they can be anything, they wanna be, and I'm not being anything that I wanna be.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: Whew, but you ain't, you right, you know?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely right, that just blew my mind
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: I just ain't even been thinking about it like that.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's like all I've been thinking about, it's like, okay, well, I need to make sure that we get him to write trainers if this is what he want to do.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: Then I need to figure out to make that money that make that happen, you know.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: What's the last thing that brought you joy that wasn't a family member?
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: Bro, I can't take you.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that's that's that's that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's all that's
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I grew up, like I said, a very religious church was the forefront.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: No way near to the degree that your family was is.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever had any struggles with, um,
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: your walk with God due to resentment of what it appeared.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_00]: Your parents' relationship with God meant absolutely.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of rebuild from it, clean up and to about two years ago.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: What's today?
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because it's just like,
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: People's expectations in me, you know, you're expecting me to be this, this, or expecting me not to, because who they are, you know, and it was like, I don't, because of my parents, no, people don't even know them.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that's one thing.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, you know, I just, I hated it for a long time because it's like, you haven't been typecast.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: I could, you know, I could do nothing else other than gospel and Christian entertainment.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I felt like, I was like, man,
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: I did the hip-hop summit and I brought gospel in at the beginning of the hip-up.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, of the entrepreneur summit and young lady came over and was like, well, I know what you believe in and who your parents are and who you are.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: But do you play hip-hop and R&B?
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what's up?
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: I played two church songs and that's where you got on this.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: And they know why they're in here.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: I struggle with that because you know, it's just like then I just I live with it, bro I got to live in what I am and you know, and I was thinking about it in the biblical days.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you know, people used to have to actually say they did it's name.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a son of Abraham, and that's going to always be with me, you know, and I'll never be able to.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: go completely two different ways.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's because I mean, and I'm okay with it, bro.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: They've drawn a path for us, you know, and it's okay to, you know, walk through this path.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's easier this way.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I had to realize.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, it's taking me a while to realize it, but I ain't got to fight against the stream or the current, you know, I'm gonna flow with it.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: We should, we should professional go, man, that might be a different way to get to the answer that.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: Get to the answer there.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: Trying to get, man, professionally, man, I really want to, I want to grow a successful business.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: What that business may look like, I've done a lot of businesses, I've done sales, real estate, I've done a bunch of stuff.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: But to be honest with you, brother, I just want to make a successful business happen and grow.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: And we see it grow.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: And success doesn't mean a necessary dollar amount, but I want to see the business work and flourish.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, it doesn't have to be a necessary dollar amount.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: They're not chasing money anymore.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: What matters to you in terms of impact?
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: Um.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: To me, I would like to have just, like, even if it's a city impact and then got to be a global one, I want to just, I want to make one, I just want to make an impact, I want to make a word to where my kids don't have a whole time speaking in my funeral, like that's, that's the impact that I want to make.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really great perspective.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: So that my tells you know I have a hard time.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's the type of impact that I'm on.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: I was with matters.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: I want people to talk about me that is this thing I had a huge heart for people.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: And that's my thing, you know, and I for a little bit I got away from that.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the impact that I want to make.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: What was the key to coming back to that?
- 43:07[SPEAKER_00]: Man struggled with, like I mentioned earlier, how they define success, and it's real easy to stay in environments that celebrate your foolishness.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, correct.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think has been the key to you getting to the other side of that and knowing what's important to you and doing what's important to you?
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: Then I got to my eyes looking.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: that I got to my eyes looking at me and I just don't want to disappoint.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to disappoint, you know, a lot of times people be like, you know, you don't want your name to beat your home and that's important to me, you know, legacy is important to me and that's one of the, anybody that know me for real, for real, know how I feel about legacy.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: It means nothing, bro, if we came past it on and carry, carry the torch.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: It means absolutely nothing.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: It means absolutely nothing.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: If we die when they close that casket, if I name them the wrong, it means absolutely nothing, brother.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: You've been afforded some wisdom in your life for sure.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: We'll start the wine down and this is my first time a question.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: We'll suggest this won't be the last time we sit down.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: First time, technically, full title of the show with this one, what I wish my father told me.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, do you wish your father told you?
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: Man, man.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, I ain't, I've never thought about that every in my life, but if I had to say I'm proud of you, that's just simply that.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm proud to call you my son.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't,
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: me and my dad have had a good a good life together yeah we then we didn't accomplish some great things together so that's that'll be a great that'll be a great last one that's saying to me yeah you think he is absolutely okay that's a little bit okay that's a little bit
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: With something that's your children, I'm gonna never have to wish you told them.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: Poof.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you asked an all-a-goo one, don't you really try to have both tear it up in here, man?

- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: What does family mean to you, man?
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: Family is everything.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: If, like I said, if we don't have family, we don't have nothing.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's the world.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: If the family means it all to me.
