SPEAKER_00: Welcome to this week's Tech News Roundup, where we dive into the exciting world of SpaceX and their highly anticipated Starship V3 debut flight.
• 0:09
SPEAKER_00: Buckle in as we explore the latest advancements in aerospace technology and what they mean for the future of space travel.
• 0:17
SPEAKER_00: Today we're gearing up for an exciting chapter in aerospace history as SpaceX aims to launch its Starship V3 for its very first test flight.
• 0:26
SPEAKER_00: Said to lift off from Starbase, Texas, the launch window opens at 6.30 p.m.
• 0:32
SPEAKER_00: Eastern Time today, May 22nd.
• 0:34
SPEAKER_00: This test flight had initially been slated for May 21, but a little technical turbulence caused a last-minute scrub.
• 0:41
SPEAKER_00: Elon Musk took to X to share that a hydraulic pin holding the spacecraft's tower arm was being more stubborn than an autopilot refusing to disengage.
• 0:50
SPEAKER_00: Talk about pre-flight drama worthy of an in-flight movie.
• 0:54
SPEAKER_00: Now what's new with this iteration of Starship?
• 0:56
SPEAKER_00: V3 is not just a minor upgrade.
• 0:59
SPEAKER_00: It stands about 5 feet taller than its predecessor and comes equipped with the powerful Raptor 3 engines.
• 1:05
SPEAKER_00: These engines boost the spacecraft's thrust capabilities to over 18 million pounds, like strapping a jet engine to a shopping cart, only, you know, more NASA-approved.
• 1:17
SPEAKER_00: This level of power is crucial for future expeditions beyond our earthly bounds.
• 1:23
  SPEAKER_00: My take?
• 1:24
SPEAKER_00: If we're going to be launching humans into the cosmos, it's about time we hit the throttle on thrust.
• 1:29
SPEAKER_00: SpaceX has designed this flight with a focus on demonstrating its revamped hardware.
• 1:35
SPEAKER_00: The primary objectives are a successful launch, a clean ascent, the all-important stage separation, and a landing that doesn't involve the usual catching method with the launch tower's mechanical arms.
• 1:47
SPEAKER_00: Nope, this time, Super Heavy will be landing in an offshore location in the Gulf of Mexico, now humorously renamed the Gulf of America since 2025, by none other than President Donald Trump.
• 1:59
SPEAKER_00: It's a bit of a departure from the usual heroic homecoming.
• 2:03
SPEAKER_00: Let's just hope it doesn't end up as a casualty of the sea.
• 2:06
  SPEAKER_00: Buckle up.
• 2:07
  SPEAKER_00: We're entering turbulent skies.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_00: In addition to these hardware tests, the upperstage ship will deploy not one, but twenty Starlink satellite simulators, along with two modified Starlink satellites packed with test hardware.
• 2:22
SPEAKER_00: These satellites will collect data to assess the effectiveness of the ship's heat shield during descent.
• 2:28
SPEAKER_00: You know, just another casual day at the office for SpaceX, my suspicion?
• 2:33
SPEAKER_00: If that heat shield can survive the descent, it deserves a medal of honor, or at least a nice hot cup of coffee.
• 2:40
SPEAKER_00: Okay, we're entering clear skies now.
• 2:42
SPEAKER_00: Feel free to remove your seatbelt and roam around a little.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_00: So, whether you're a space enthusiast, or just curious about how far we're pushing the boundaries of exploration, tonight's launch is one you won't want to miss.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_00: You can catch the action live on SpaceX's X account or through various streaming platforms.
• 3:03
SPEAKER_00: This is a pivotal moment not just for SpaceX but for the future of space travel as we know it.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_00: I've added links to all the products mentioned in this episode down in the show notes.
• 3:12
SPEAKER_00: If you use those links, it's a small way to support the show, and it means a lot to me.
• 3:17
SPEAKER_00: Until next time, keep creating, keep adapting, and remember, the future doesn't wait for permission.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_00: This is Captain Overfit, signing off.
