All right, everybody. This is how we start the show. [upbeat music] Hey, everybody.
• 0:20
This here is Full Spectrum Cycling. This is number 248. It's the party show. Party, party, party, party, party. Yeah, it's the party show. [cheering] [clapping] Wow, that's weird.
• 0:30
Believe it or not, JK and I have been doing this for over 10 years. Tony- Yeah... Tony's been in- 10, 10-... Tony-... 10 anniversary... [laughs] To- To- Break, break out your tin.
• 0:40
Tony's been doing it almost as long, too. Thanks, Tony. Thanks, JK. Uh- Oh, thank you... thanks to El Rongo for that awesome set- Hell, yeah...
• 0:47
star- starting out the evening, and definitely thank you to everybody that prepared food or Scardina's that brought food. Dave- Damn fine food... Damian Scardina. Yeah.
• 0:56
[clapping] If you're in the Milwaukee area, that's where you ought to go check out good stuff. And Aaron... so- We, we forgot to do [clapping]. Doesn't matter. Okay. I already got that. Okay. I'm, it's magical.
• 1:07
Making sure. Uh, so we planned on having that Brad over there with his bike, but it's raining outside. [laughs] Sorry, Brad. [laughs] Brad's a BMX master. Hey, you know what I watched, Brad? Seen it, seen it.
• 1:22
I don't know if you've seen it yet. It's, uh, the, the homestead bicycle story. It's on Tubi. Tubi. It, it's worth watching. The guy made 30 BMX bikes. It's called- The Home-... Homestead Bicycles. Yeah, check it out.
• 1:35
The guy, like, did a, did a, uh, a company that made 30 bikes, and Cycle Craft was building them for him. Oh, I know that guy. And then he didn't get his final 20, and kind of folded up and whatever, whatever.
• 1:46
Apparently, he's making bikes again. Yeah. So interesting story. Definitely worth the, the watch. It's not super long, and it's interesting. Is it gonna be in the show notes? Well, he tried to find the first 30 bikes.
• 1:59
Uh, yeah, I could put it in there. There you go. And he found some chunk of the original 30 that he sold in 1991, 2, 3. Wow. Yeah, interesting. Good stuff. Uh, here's a... Should we start out on a sad note?
• 2:15
How about introductions? Oh, yeah. We could do that. [laughs] There's Mars. There's Jeff. There's Jare- [laughs] [laughs] There's Jeff. [laughs] Who are those people? There's Greg. There's Scott. There we go. Fern.
• 2:25
Uh, I'm Sven. That, that, that handsome gentleman is JK, and, and that guy there is, uh, Mr. Tony Burger. Welcome, people- People... to the show. Humans... not, we're not used to doing this in front of people. Oh.
• 2:36
It's more like- [laughs]... the audience is invisible. [laughs] Um, so on a, on a s- That's why I'm staring directly into my phone... right, the sad- [laughs] So as us- It's usual...
• 2:46
so now you see the sad note is, uh, so long Whispering Jeff. Ah, yes. Yep. And- That's right. That's right. [laughs] And, and by whispering, we mean obviously- Oh, loudest boy in the room...
• 2:57
loud, loudest man in the world. Only met him once. Uh, a, a little bit of a surprise. How? How? How did you avoid that?
• 3:02
I mean, I knew him, but I'd only actually ever been introduced and met him once, and I'm pretty sure it was Sabbatic. Yeah. Well, yeah. Well, yeah. Recently. Okay.
• 3:12
I could see that because yeah, because- But he was quiet at that time. No, he was. At time, no, he was, 'cause we saw him at Sabbatic, and he was very quiet. It was amazing. It was interesting. Yeah.
• 3:21
Well- I was like, I- Then-... that really looks like him, but normally he has, uh- Then there's a chance I was there with you guys- Yeah... because I only go to Sabbatic when I'm with you guys, so maybe. And on a bike.
• 3:29
Always. [laughs] Kim, Kim wedged him into the, uh, bathroom at, uh, Circle A. [laughs] A s- during a show? Yeah, 'cause- Yikes... it was like we were standing in that area, and whatever.
• 3:42
She was leaning up against it and just, like, boom, boom. He was trying to get out, and she was... It was battle of wills. [laughs] I like it. So- I like it... that was like- He was like-...
• 3:50
yeah, one of my first and awesome memories of him. [laughs] Uh, last week I think I talked about it, but I don't know if I'd... Had I stopped by the Milwaukee Outdoor Indoor Exchange yet? No, you had not.
• 4:01
You were saying you were going later. I did, I did do that. This is a place in, uh, Bay View just off of Oklahoma in that little triangle r- almost when you get to the lake,
• 4:11
and he's got a really good collection of outdoor stuff. Some of it consignment, some of it new. Quality? Quality stuff. Yep. Yep. You know, good, good, good tents, good...
• 4:20
Anything is, it that's in there is a good quality item for what it is, and, uh, he'll, he'll take stuff on consignment. So he might- Cool...
• 4:27
throw a couple of things in there that are a little more retail-oriented for sure. Should be big Agnes-like maybe. Yes, this would be a good thing. All right. I could throw my seed house in there.
• 4:35
Plus somebody wants a seed house, too, that doesn't wanna go there. [laughs] Get it. Um, yeah, so that's down on, um... I d- forget the street, but it's just off Oklahoma. Check that out if you get down that way.
• 4:51
Uh, we're making progress on that Bullet over there, so- Interesting. Yeah, looks like you're getting some pics. See it's very e- What's that?... electrify. Delaware. Delaware. Thanks, Jeff. Delaware. Yep.
• 5:01
The Commodore is- Right. Yep, it's right down there on Delaware and Oklahoma. Ah, there, yeah. Copy that. Well, it's good- That's-... it's good to have people that know things in the audience.
• 5:09
So I'm gonna, I'm gonna get in trouble, but isn't that Bay View? Human Googles. [laughs] It is Bay View. That's Bay View where River Westerners go to retire and die, right? That's the place. Yes. Or at least just retire.
• 5:19
[laughs] Don't have to get morbid yet. Ah, I just had to get that in. [laughs] Uh, April Fools' Day. Stop it. I believe nothing. I become a nihilist- You know, I don't-... like, all day long.
• 5:32
No, noth- whatever you say, piss off. [laughs] I, I think the bike industry is worse than most other industries at trying to be clever on April Fools' product announcements- 19, man... and jokes.
• 5:41
They get pretty bad, too. Dude, somebody said there was gonna be a Kaius reunion with all original members. That sucked. [laughs] I was, I was at a weak point when I was looking at things, and I'm like, "Oh, no."
• 5:52
[laughs] Man. What about the IKEA boys? Oh, no, I didn't. [laughs] That was a good one. I, I must have, like- Stop it... begun... What? Me? [laughs] April Fools' in general. Oh, yeah.
• 6:04
[laughs] I was like, "What the heck?" You started it. Just so I could say stop it. [laughs] What, what'd you guys do for Easter? [laughs] The, the bunny rabbit's holiday.
• 6:16
So, you know how I always talk about how smart my daughter is? Well, the one thing she's completely inept at is finding an Easter basket, and it's absolutely hilarious. [laughs] It took almost two hours this year.
• 6:30
One year, it was four and a half hours. Wow. No warm- Including dropping hints... like warm, cold? You know, we, I- she asked me for a hint on Sunday, and I just stood and stared at the coat rack, and stared at it.
• 6:44
And then she's like, "Just give me a hint," and I kept staring. And she said, "Just give me..." And then she finally said, "Are you constipated?" [laughs] And I, of course, probably flipped her the bird and, and left.
• 6:55
And then, oddly enough, she found it hanging from the coat rack around a coat, and I walked out, and I'm like, [sighs] Constipated again. "Yeah, I guess I'm constipated." [laughs] So- And you're- can't figure out- So-...
• 7:08
a fucking Easter basket again. Yeah. As I can, as I can e- easily ride that wave, it started on Holy Thursday, where I began the, uh, colon prep- That's in lint. Oh... for- [laughs]... the Good Friday colonoscopy.
• 7:23
[laughs] Nice. I also did- That was-... my colonoscopy on a Good Friday. [laughs] So that's how it all started out on the weekend. That's a great Friday. There you have it.
• 7:35
[laughs] Had Tomk- [laughs] I had Tomkins Fried Chicken as my reward meal afterwards, with cheese curds and a hazy IPA. Worked out nicely. Ooh. Then the next day- [laughs] Worked out nicely.
• 7:46
[laughs] So then, on Saturday, gonna go see, uh, Voot Warnings over at Ye Olde Uptowner. Yeah. Um, and ended up with a little, uh, dumpster dog, a stray- Oh, brilliant...
• 8:01
that was unceremoniously dispatched in the 12th-and-something- Mm... dumps- eh, dumpster. No. Eh, there was a lot of badness in there. But cute little poorillion, papillion something. Okay.
• 8:17
Like a little chihuahua type thing. N- is it now currently at your house? It is now at my mother's house. Oh, okay. She was talking about getting a doggy. It's a papillon? And it's a nice little papillon. Papillon.
• 8:28
And- Yep, that's a nice little doggy... you know, see if they bond, see if it works. If not, it's a test run. And it works out nicely. It's got a good home. It's better than a fucking dumpster.
• 8:36
And I don't want to flip him. [laughs] That's for sure. So, um- Are you sure it's a Trash Girl band dumpster? [laughs] I'm not, maybe. [laughs] I can't, I cannot stop- All right. We're-... like humming that all.
• 8:47
So that was my, uh, my mom's Easter present on Easter Sunday. [laughs] Good, good son that you are. So, yeah. That's a way better- Everything is working out... Easter than my Easter, man. That's fantastic. Yeah.
• 8:57
It was, it worked out. Right. What about you, Greg? Resurrected from- Did you have ham? We had ham on both Sunday and Monday, 'cause Sydney had to work on Sunday, so we did a second Easter with a second ham.
• 9:09
We, we had, um- Which was fine with me... we had a house guest that had- I had green eggs, though. Oh, nice... with it. We had a house guest- Don't have-...
• 9:15
that had no idea what horseradish gravy was, and he left with the recipe. Nice. Right on. I, I don't know what horseradish gravy is. Easter. Well, I'll get you the recipe. It's one of the- What are you talking about?
• 9:26
It's one of the big two- Really?... holidays You think? The other one being Turkey Day? No, the other one being when Jesus was bornt. Yeah. Oh, X-mas. That one. X-mas and Turkey Day. And those are my two feeders.
• 9:39
[laughs] It's more about- Those are my, my feeders... it's more about the eating than the, uh- [laughs]... than the, than the celebrating. Gotcha. Uh, there's some stuff coming up that we probably ought to mention.
• 9:49
Uh, within about a month of now, up there in Osage, Iowa, is Mayday Mayhem. Is that the clunker? That's the clunker event. That's the fourth? I think it's the- Saturday the 4th? Saturday the 4th.
• 10:00
'Cause Sunday- Oh, it's on, uh-... May the 5th be with you... May the 4th be with you. Is, yeah. We're hanging, we're hanging, we're hanging, we're hanging, we're hanging. Is it not, uh, River West 24 registration?
• 10:08
It is. The 5th is registration. Yep. The 5th is. So you guys won't be going to Osage. I won't be. Well, you're gonna register- Come on, I have-... our team, right? So I don't have to be there.
• 10:17
You know my team is- And I have to wait to see if my number is called... aren't you getting a little scared-y knees again? I, I guess. There you go. Hee, hee, hee. I don't want your team.
• 10:23
I gotta wait till see if I get my number called. No, you don't have to give me your ticket. We just did this last week. We don't, we could, we could reinsert last week's minute and a half about this. Yeah.
• 10:32
Actually, it was like 12 seconds, actually. Yeah. Yeah. So, um- Easy... I know Dave and I, Chewie, and Spinner are all headed over there.
• 10:40
So if you wanna have fun in Iowa, some really nice trails in Osage, right along the river, Cedar River. Yeah. And there's an excellent semi-not improved campground that's 10 bucks a night. And why isn't- Very worth it...
• 10:53
why aren't Chewie and Spinner coming up here to do, register for an RW sometime? Well, they might do that if there's not a Osage event going on. Iowa's got their minds. It's sucked them in. It's- Brainwashed them...
• 11:05
the children of the corn have gotten them in the field there. Uh, there's also a bikes, boats, and goat event. Mr. Lund has proposed the last weekend in June. Anybody wanna go over to Michigan?
• 11:19
Wow, that's early, isn't it? Ride up to Sleeping Bear off the ferry, then ride back down to Lake Express and come home. Six or seven-day kind of an adventure. Mm.
• 11:29
And if, if any of you are interested, this is what's gonna be happening. Jeff, look at Jeff. [laughs] He's like, "I don't know. I might be interested in that." I could, I could pull it off.
• 11:36
We're gonna, we're gonna, I don't know, 30, 40 miles a day. There should be some beach. And, uh, that's end of June. Uh, any, you guys look at the Radavist website? Dan, you guys do that, right? I look at the Radavist.
• 11:51
The Radavist. Radavist. Oh, well, you have to- Yeah... if, if not, check the show notes.
• 11:56
Yeah, check the show notes, 'cause I, they got a place where you can sell stuff, and I put a thing [laughs] on there to sell some stuff. Check it out. I see it.
• 12:03
And also, there'll be a Titanium Fargo coming up pretty soon, because JP decided to back out on it, so. [laughs] Or I shouldn't say back out, I should say pass would be a better word. There you go That's a nice bike.
• 12:15
That's a nice frame set too. Yeah. Is it the frame set or the full bike? Well, it could be either- Ah... but I'm thinking I'm just gonna put all that stuff on a Growler and call it a day. All done, yeah. Yeah.
• 12:23
'Cause I like that frame. Jessica has one. Crap. I know this is not for right now, but I need to talk to you about a stem and some other parts. And your adjunct bag. And my, yeah, of course.
• 12:33
[laughs] 'Cause you can't own the Moloko, am I right? You can't own the Moloko bars without the bag. That's physically- Well-... almost impossible, or at least not very right Asking the crowd people. [laughs] Yes. So
• 12:50
that's how Greg ropes you in. He gets you to give you a good deal on the bars, and then everything else just keeps adding up. Yeah, you're super- 'Cause I got it home and I'm like-... tricky...
• 12:57
"Shit, I don't have a stem that [laughs] fits this." Greg stems. "Greg, I need a stem." Um, got a little frog in my throat there. [clears throat] So they redesigned the Big Easy over at the Surly- Saw that, V2.
• 13:12
I like how it looks, and it's- It's not, it's not bad- So-... but six Gs still. It's spendy. [laughs] You know how cheap I am.
• 13:20
If you look at how the, uh, the battery and motor are laid out, I drew that for the Shark like- Mm... five years ago. So we just have to now chop a, a Big Easy up for a prototype, and we can make a- Yeah... an E-Shark.
• 13:32
It'll be awesome. That's over at the surlybikes.com place. Mm. Uh, what else we got on here? Oh, there's a really cool fork from some guys in Germany at Cyber Cycles in Germany. It's titanium. It's 599 euro.
• 13:49
Oh, shit, that's expensive. Uh, yeah, no kidding. [laughs] Suspension, or is it- No, titanium... it's just a, a full titanium fork? All titanium fork. Very German. So somewhat suspension. Very German website link.
• 14:00
In a way, yeah. Yeah, it just looks like- [laughs]... an old Bontrager from way back in the old days. It's really cool. Yeah, like straight titanium. Oh, it's badass. Oh. What's, it's gotta be light as a feather.
• 14:08
1,020 grams. Oh. That's still 2 1/2 pounds. But- Or a little over, little under, I mean... indestructible. Yeah, for sure. Um, what else is on the list? Oh.
• 14:22
Oh, I put, I put that thing of the, uh, I was all excited about- That thing... uh, well, about the bullfighting with bikes. I was like, "Bullfighting with bikes, that's awesome." But it- It, bike fighting...
• 14:32
I actually watched the video, and the- It wasn't... was all excited. It, there were like little half bikes rep- to represent the bulls. The bulls didn't fight the bikes? No, they were training to be matadors.
• 14:43
Oh, the bike went at the person. Yeah. Oof. I'll have to watch that then. Yeah. That sounds harsh. Yeah. Oh, there's- I don't know if I wanna watch that...
• 14:48
if it was like full on bikes- There's a celebrity in the room right now. It's- [sighs]... it's Ken Keane, folks. Oh, wow. Ken, Ken just walked in. Ken Keane on the scene. Ken on the scene. Oh.
• 14:58
[laughs] Ken Keane on the scene. Hey, did anybody ride motorcycles? I know Greg did back in the old days. Engine cycles. Do you remember Yoshimura? 'Cause everybody wanted a Yosh pipe on their Suzuki.
• 15:08
It was a great pipe. They make bike stuff now. Guess what? It's expensive, just like the motorcycle stuff. [laughs] Somehow they're making stems and pedals and whatnot.
• 15:17
I don't know if Pops is doing it or it's just Yoshimura Design Group, but- Hm... if you wanna spend a lot of money on some cool stuff, that Yoshimura Cycling is the place to check it out.
• 15:26
Judging from that, is that Japanese? Yeah. Huh? It is. You're very, very, very, very smart. Just making sure. You know, you're right. You, you sound like- Uh, s- like, like are we talking like inch and 1/8th stems?
• 15:39
Like- Uh, most of them look like downhill stems to me. Okay, okay. Yeah, big ones. That's it, yeah, right. And the pedals are flat and 250 bucks. Oof. They look cool, though. Oof. [laughs] Just saying. They better.
• 15:51
[laughs] Um- It's like, you know, UGGs, they're expensive and they're ugly as sin. [laughs] You know, at least these might look good. Didn't Zito have an UGG moment? Oh, wouldn't surprise me at all.
• 16:02
[laughs] Scott would know. [laughs] Scott? Scott? [laughs] He's hiding. All right, everybody. Um- Over in our head in his Z Cavaricis, JNCOs.
• 16:13
[laughs] Well, we don't, we don't have to, we don't have to bore you with any more of your time, but I do wanna say, uh, thank you to Amorphic for- Oh, yeah... having us here in their fine party room.
• 16:22
It's just got that Steve Matheson aesthetic, doesn't it? [audience applauding] [audience cheering] Um- May I interject a very bike-centric point? If I could, yeah, go ahead.
• 16:34
Do you wanna put it, do you wanna talk in the, do you wanna talk into the can? It's coming right for us. Talk into the can. It's on the other side, Joe. Talk into the can.
• 16:43
Hi, I'm, uh, Joe, otherwise known as the Ghost of Bob Barker. Uh, thanks for having me on your thing, um, you know, unsolicited, because that's how I roll.
• 16:52
[laughs] Um, but I, I just wanted to put it out there that, um, a very underground yet, uh, famous, uh, mountain biking spot in, uh, Milwaukee is in the very early processes of becoming a sanctioned, legit, uh, maintained thing.
• 17:11
Um, more details to come. Mm, looking forward to what the future brings. We have the, uh- What do you have? Uh, n- n- not saying nothing yet. [laughs] It's not near, it's not, are you saying it's near where you work?
• 17:23
It might be near where I work- [laughs]... if you know where I work. [laughs] I know where he's working. Uh, but yeah, uh, mm, cool things on the horizon. Government moves slow, so that's a little bit of a clue.
• 17:33
Uh, we'll see what happens in the next year or two. Right on. Well, I hope it happens. Cheers, man. Right on. [audience applauding] Thanks for- Da, da, da, da... thanks for your contribution, Joe...
• 17:44
da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da. Oh, oh. Da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da, da, da, da. Uh- Barker... King Honda 75 when I was 17, and a Kawasaki mini bike before that. That is all I'll say.
• 17:54
Thanks, Ken. [laughs] Man, he's gotta get his, gotta get his two cents in there. Look at him. Are those glasses changing color, or are they just that color all the time?
• 18:02
Hey, I heard that you have cheaters down here which comes in handy. All right, yeah, at your advanced age. [laughs] Uh, who else is I'm, is as I'm thanking is, uh, that'd be the El Rongo Band there.
• 18:13
They're gonna do another- [cheers]... couple of two, five songs here in just a few minutes. I'm, I'm thankful for Fern. Fern the dog. Fern lets me pet him. Hi, Fern. Fern. Hi, Fern the dog. He's a cool cat. Joe.
• 18:23
Uh, and food-wise, I think we mentioned this before, but- Yep... Damian Scardino, uh, my wife Wendy, Tony's wife Molly, uh, JJ- I helped... since I don't know- [laughs] I fucking helped... since he showed up here.
• 18:36
[laughs] My presence. He'll, he'll help clean up, I'm sure. [laughs] Uh, all right. Well, let's, uh, let the band get back at it, and thank you all for coming to the party. [upbeat music] And I don't know. Thank you.
• 18:48
Maybe we'll do it for another 10 years, but I wouldn't count on it. [laughs] I ain't.
• 18:56
  [upbeat music]
