- 0:39SPEAKER_06: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, Powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_06: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_06: Tristan, football is back.
- 0:52SPEAKER_04: Week zero just blessed us with their with its presence, dude, and I couldn't be happier.
- 0:56SPEAKER_04: What an amazing, absolute mess of a weekend it was, schedule-wise.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: But I enjoyed every minute of it.
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: I don't know about you.
- 1:03SPEAKER_06: I was glued to my couch.
- 1:05SPEAKER_06: I didn't do anything yesterday, Saturday, just to watch um the probably bottom tier college football, all things considered.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: It wasn't great, but honestly, some of the games were pretty good.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, like Ohio San Diego State, um, UTEP, Jacksonville State, and uh what what was it uh uh in Louisiana Tech versus Florida International.
- 1:28SPEAKER_06: All good games, honestly.
- 1:30SPEAKER_06: All good games.
- 1:31SPEAKER_06: It did start off with a thrashing of the troops by Notre Dame.
- 1:37SPEAKER_06: Notre Dame should be jailed for what they did to the troops.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: Notre Dame has no respect for America.
- 1:43SPEAKER_06: No, they go into the territory, they go and play for the home or the home team for the Irish, and then they absolutely dismantle uh one of our premier institutions in America.
- 1:55SPEAKER_06: It was sickening.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: It's a yeah, it you know, for being such a Catholic school, they sure do like the sin.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: I'll tell you what.
- 2:02SPEAKER_06: Good call.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: Do you like that theatre, that uh theological twist?
- 2:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, way to go, man.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: Um, no, the first first good game of the day was UTEP Jacksonville State, which I watched uh that sentence is said often, too, so it's not like a surprise.
- 2:20SPEAKER_06: I watched a lot of this game.
- 2:23SPEAKER_06: I think I watched at least three full quarters of this game, which pretty good.
- 2:28SPEAKER_06: Pretty good.
- 2:29SPEAKER_06: I mean, bad football, you know, not a lot of things.
- 2:32SPEAKER_06: It was history, though.
- 2:33SPEAKER_06: It was history, it was history.
- 2:34SPEAKER_06: Jacksonville State gets their first win at the FBS level against the minors.
- 2:39SPEAKER_06: The minors just blew it at the end.
- 2:42SPEAKER_06: I mean, just awful, awful stuff.
- 2:45SPEAKER_04: The the minors, sir, are not good at the sport of football, it seems.
- 2:49SPEAKER_06: No, no.
- 2:49SPEAKER_06: Uh, they tried, I thought they had a decent year last year.
- 2:53SPEAKER_06: Turns out they're still not good.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: Unfortunately, our our friends out in El Paso still don't have it together.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, because it's eventually, you know, that that that rivalry is really gonna come back into the into the full the Tex Tech Red Raiders, right?
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: That's our F sure number one team on the board.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: Utep what we want to be.
- 3:12SPEAKER_04: I was very happy to see them their dreams get crushed.
- 3:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it was yeah, it was it was too bad.
- 3:18SPEAKER_06: Too bad for El Paso.
- 3:21SPEAKER_06: Um, I'm sure everybody was upset over there.
- 3:23SPEAKER_06: The next good game, San Diego State, Ohio.
- 3:27SPEAKER_06: Uh I didn't watch a lot of this, to be completely honest with you.
- 3:30SPEAKER_06: I watched, I caught the end where the interception kind of sealed the deal for San Diego State.
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: But overall, this is two good G5 teams, two good programs.
- 3:40SPEAKER_06: I think these two teams are gonna make some noise against their uh P5 competition this year.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean they they were the they're they're likely to be, you know, at least uh contenders in their conferences.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: Uh and dude, I I just gotta say, man, I can't get over how amazing San Diego State's branding is their uniforms, their helmets, their mascot.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: It's all sick.
- 3:58SPEAKER_04: It's all awesome.
- 4:00SPEAKER_06: Much better than Ohio.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: Much better than Ohio.
- 4:03SPEAKER_04: Much better than Ohio.
- 4:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the real University of Ohio.
- 4:07SPEAKER_04: Indeed.
- 4:08SPEAKER_06: Uh, no, yeah, it's gonna be exciting to see San Diego State and Ohio play against better competition, see if they can pull an upset here uh later in the year.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Here on the talking Aztecs pod.
- 4:20SPEAKER_06: You know it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_06: You know it.
- 4:21SPEAKER_06: We love our Aztecs here, except for Kawhi Leonard.
- 4:24SPEAKER_06: That guy can know.
- 4:25SPEAKER_06: But the real game that we want to get to before we talk about some good stuff here.
- 4:30SPEAKER_06: We're talking about season prediction for Texas Tech.
- 4:32SPEAKER_06: We're talking about our optimisms and pessimisms going into the year.
- 4:36SPEAKER_06: We are talking about season MVPs, all this good stuff that we're gonna predict.
- 4:41SPEAKER_06: But let's hit on the Henry Columbi bowl, which was FIU at Louisiana Tech, Rustin, Louisiana, Sonny Cumby, head coach of the Bulldogs, versus David Yost, offensive coordinator for FIU.
- 4:58SPEAKER_06: Sonny Cumbie's Bulldogs pulled it out, my friend.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: Sonny Cumby owns the Henry Columbi Bowl, sir.
- 5:05SPEAKER_04: He does.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: And I'm very proud of him.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: Obviously, we were rooting hard for him.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, it wasn't looking too great there in the first half, but they really kind of pulled it together.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was a it was a full display of college kickers in that game.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: Good lord.
- 5:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, a lot of misfield goals, a lot of bad play overall.
- 5:21SPEAKER_06: FIU had four total passing yards the entire game.
- 5:28SPEAKER_06: Old school, baby.
- 5:29SPEAKER_06: Oh, three forward pass days of football.
- 5:33SPEAKER_06: Run it up their throats.
- 5:35SPEAKER_06: Football type of thing.
- 5:37SPEAKER_06: Um, them and navy, FIU and Navy just don't, no throwing for these guys.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: Not allowed, not not their playbook.
- 5:45SPEAKER_06: No, and yet Louisiana Tech still only won by five.
- 5:49SPEAKER_06: It was a pretty bad showing for the first three quarters of this game for the Bulldogs of LaTeX.
- 5:54SPEAKER_06: But hey, they're one and oh, right where they want to be.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: A dub is a dub, dog.
- 5:58SPEAKER_04: I mean, especially at this point of the year, you're still trying to figure things out.
- 6:00SPEAKER_04: And look, it's not like they had an amazing season last year.
- 6:03SPEAKER_04: Sonny's in the middle of a rebuilding job.
- 6:05SPEAKER_04: And honestly, I think this is a pretty good gig.
- 6:07SPEAKER_04: You know, I think you can make something out of this job.
- 6:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, he could probably be a top conference USA team here in no time.
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: So hopefully he figures it out, gets it together, and you know, keeps on adding up the dubs.
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: He's our dude.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 6:18SPEAKER_06: We'll tune in whenever I can to see a La Tech game this year, and hopefully they get some dubs.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: Well, you know, Conference USA TV is is much what less watched.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: So yeah, absolutely.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: As if you can even take your eyes off.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: Conference USA football, baby.
- 6:33SPEAKER_06: Hawaii Vanderbilt, any thoughts?
- 6:36SPEAKER_04: No, other than uh I wish the Warriors won in that absolute shit show of a stadium that it is right now.
- 6:42SPEAKER_04: That would that would have been so sick.
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: Just like just was to see what a mess the Commodores are, you know.
- 6:48SPEAKER_06: They are holding up their scoreboard with two cranes and it's just dangling in the air.
- 6:53SPEAKER_06: It's a sight to see.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: With the way running your just your window screen on it, free game.
- 6:59SPEAKER_05: What a mess.
- 7:00SPEAKER_05: You know, they deserve to lose, but you know, lucky them.
- 7:03SPEAKER_04: They sh they won against one of the bet the you know absolute best teams in FBS that is Hawaii.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: So they're off to a hot start.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: SEC.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: SEC baby.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: SEC.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: Gotta love it.
- 7:14SPEAKER_04: I dude, I can I can barely watch the SEC network, dude.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: It is atrocious, man.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: Every every time it changes like frame and they throw up all those horrid graphics.
- 7:25SPEAKER_04: I get nauseous each time.
- 7:28SPEAKER_04: It's not even just like an F the SEC thing, but like it's an assault to the senses.
- 7:33SPEAKER_06: I tuned into like two drives for this one, so I didn't get to see a lot of these graphics, but yeah, the SEC network, it's not phenomenal.
- 7:41SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, it's like it is just a vomit of blue and yellow all over the place all the time.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's bad.
- 7:49SPEAKER_06: Tough one, tough scene, but week zero delivered, is what I would say.
- 7:54SPEAKER_06: I you know, here on Talk in Week Zero.
- 7:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they caught the attention of all of us because we are so ready for college football to be back, and it is now back.
- 8:03SPEAKER_06: But it's officially game week here.
- 8:06SPEAKER_06: It is Texas Tech Red Raiders, Wyoming Cowboys.
- 8:09SPEAKER_06: We're gonna bring in an episode a little later on in the week where we kind of break down Wyoming, we kind of talk about the depth chart that's gonna get released a little later today, and uh just overall thoughts on the Wyoming game.
- 8:20SPEAKER_06: But today we're talking about more season outlooks, optimisms, pessimisms going into the year.
- 8:27SPEAKER_06: We do this every year on the Talk and Tech podcast.
- 8:31SPEAKER_06: Tristan, are you ready to give your optimisms and your pessimisms?
- 8:35SPEAKER_04: Yes, I am, sir.
- 8:36SPEAKER_04: I uh you know me.
- 8:36SPEAKER_04: I'm Mr.
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: Glass Half Full.
- 8:38SPEAKER_04: Although Texas Tech this past decade has done its absolute best to make me a hat a glass half empty man.
- 8:44SPEAKER_06: I think there's a lot of glass half empty fans out there.
- 8:47SPEAKER_06: We like to be more positive, so it is a little more difficult sometimes coming up with pessimisms, but we're gonna give three of each from each of our sides.
- 8:55SPEAKER_06: It's gonna kind of give us more talk into the season and specific position groups and all that kind of good stuff.
- 9:00SPEAKER_06: But let's start with a pessimism so we can end with an optimism.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: So agree.
- 9:04SPEAKER_06: Start, let's start a little lower.
- 9:05SPEAKER_06: Tristan, what's your first pessimism?
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: You know, the pessimism part is always a hard thing to stretch out because you're really reaching, because especially I think you and I both have very high hopes for the season going in.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: I'm sure a lot of listeners do as well.
- 9:16SPEAKER_04: So pulling pessimisms out of the back of your brain that are just sitting there haunting you um is hard to drag that ghost out of the closet, but I'm gonna I'm doing my best here.
- 9:25SPEAKER_04: So, my first pessimism that comes to mind is so most of the criticism that comes to Texas Tech is it's not a rare one.
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: It's that you know, our defense isn't necessarily there for us to keep staying the win column.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: And so, my one pessimism is everybody, uh all the media is right about our deproduction, like returning, and how you know losing a talent like Tyree Wilson really is a huge blow, which we know it is, but how we're we won't be able to refill that slot uh to the to the level of you know going beyond what we did last year.
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: So, and I know a lot of people argue no, we didn't have them for the last few games, but you know, it he we still had him for most of it.
- 9:59SPEAKER_04: So it's I think I think one of my biggest pessimisms is we are not quite able to reload to the same point or beyond the point that we want going into this season.
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this is one that I kind of had written down to because it's not just Tyree.
- 10:15SPEAKER_06: I mean, Tyree is the beast that he was, uh top 10 draft pick.
- 10:20SPEAKER_06: Uh, he's insane.
- 10:21SPEAKER_06: We all know that.
- 10:22SPEAKER_06: We also lost Muddy Waters, we also lost Krishna Merrier, we also lost Kosai Eldridge, we also lost Adrian Fry.
- 10:29SPEAKER_06: I mean, these are significant pieces to what that defense was last year that did not, how do I say this in a nice way?
- 10:35SPEAKER_06: It didn't statistically rank very high in the Big 12, as is.
- 10:39SPEAKER_06: I mean, we liked what we saw a lot of the time, and it was an improvement from the past few years, but overall it was kind of tough to watch, and we lost some key pieces, so that's definitely something to be pessimistic about.
- 10:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:51SPEAKER_04: You you nailed it, and that's that's exactly where I'm going with it.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: Um, because you want to at least match what we were last year, because we're just trying to walk off the foundation here and you know take more steps above because you expect the offense to take some steps forward.
- 11:03SPEAKER_04: So if you at least have the foundation of the defense last year, that's oh good enough to get wins on the board.
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: That's what we're looking for.
- 11:09SPEAKER_04: But obviously, even better, we'd want them to get better.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: But I I just like that's my one pessimism is everybody's right about the deproduction.
- 11:15SPEAKER_06: Okay, yeah, that's a good good start to it.
- 11:17SPEAKER_06: Um, hopefully, obviously, we all don't want these pessimisms to come true.
- 11:21SPEAKER_06: But we of course thought we thought to be a little less biased, to be a little less just we're gonna win the national championship.
- 11:27SPEAKER_04: Which we are, obviously.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: But which we are.
- 11:30SPEAKER_06: We got to give a few things and be a little uh a little level-headed here.
- 11:33SPEAKER_06: So uh about you, man.
- 11:35SPEAKER_06: My first pessimism is inside linebacker.
- 11:38SPEAKER_06: We lost a lot.
- 11:39SPEAKER_06: We just mentioned two of the huge names, Kosai and uh Krishan Merriweather.
- 11:44SPEAKER_06: But we had to move Josiah Pierre, who last year was an outside linebacker, he was on the D-line rushing a bit sometimes.
- 11:52SPEAKER_06: We had to move him to inside linebacker due to necessity.
- 11:57SPEAKER_06: That wasn't a move, I think, that Joey wanted to make for him or what he thought was going to be better at.
- 12:03SPEAKER_06: Josiah Pierre is a fantastic player, and he's gonna be one of your leaders on defense, but we had to move him to inside linebacker to pair with Jacob Rodriguez.
- 12:12SPEAKER_06: And then after that, you got some red shirt freshmen, you got some sophomores.
- 12:17SPEAKER_06: You don't have a lot of depth at that position.
- 12:20SPEAKER_06: So inside linebacker scares me going into this year.
- 12:23SPEAKER_06: I'm hoping everything is fine, and uh Josiah Pierre ends up being fantastic, one of your best inside linebackers you've ever had.
- 12:31SPEAKER_06: But, you know, it's just it's it's tough when you're looking at those guys and looking at the experience for that room.
- 12:38SPEAKER_04: Uh I'm what I'm hoping with Josai, you know, you put in a in a good way is you you you you put it to where it makes you nervous that you're moving a guy away from a position where he seems optimal, uh optimal at.
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: Um, but what could be is just coaches understanding that you put the best athletes into the best uh positions to succeed for the whole team.
- 12:56SPEAKER_04: So hopefully it's just kind of a transition to get the your best player into the right spot and to you know to kind of fill that gap that's missing.
- 13:04SPEAKER_04: So, you know, we we're always we we seem to be constantly surprised about how efficient our linebacker and core ends up being.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: So hopefully it's just you know another year of a solid linebacking play.
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: Uh, but I mean I think that's a very valid pessim pessimism at the end of the day, though.
- 13:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no doubt.
- 13:20SPEAKER_06: But I I do want to clear up.
- 13:22SPEAKER_06: I think Josiah Pierre is a fantastic player, and I think he's gonna do very well at the position.
- 13:25SPEAKER_06: Same with Jacob Rodriguez, but again, you're looking after those guys.
- 13:29SPEAKER_06: You got Tyreek Matthews, you got Ben Roberts, you got Ty Kana.
- 13:33SPEAKER_06: I mean, just younger players slash just unexperienced.
- 13:37SPEAKER_06: So that's my that's my main pessimism.
- 13:39SPEAKER_06: But let's move on to some positivity.
- 13:40SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about some optimisms here uh for Texas Tech football.
- 13:43SPEAKER_06: Go ahead with your first.
- 13:45SPEAKER_04: All right, with my first optimism, man.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: Uh, you were gonna but we're gonna be talking about this in a bit, but I figured the first thing that stands out to me, I didn't want to just talk about a position group, you know, I want to kind of mix it up here is I think we have a very nice schedule.
- 13:55SPEAKER_04: I think our schedule breaks really well.
- 13:57SPEAKER_04: I'm not saying it's it's a cakewalk, but it's hard to argue with how the cards got laid out in front of us, with who you're hosting and who you're visiting.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: You know, it's most most you you you host most most of the talented teams at home, thankfully, and you only go on the road against a few very tough teams.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: So I think scheduling-wise, you're set up really well to really bump into the next echelon of the Big 12 that you're looking for, uh, record-wise.
- 14:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I would agree.
- 14:23SPEAKER_06: Um, you avoid Oklahoma, you avoid Oklahoma State.
- 14:26SPEAKER_06: That's two big ones right there.
- 14:28SPEAKER_06: You play Texas and Austin.
- 14:30SPEAKER_06: That's probably gonna be the most game of the year.
- 14:32SPEAKER_06: That's the hardest game.
- 14:34SPEAKER_06: But like you said, you get Kansas State at home, you get TCU at home, Oregon, Oregon at home.
- 14:39SPEAKER_06: So there, yes, I I am happy with how the schedule played out.
- 14:44SPEAKER_06: Is it the easiest?
- 14:44SPEAKER_06: No.
- 14:45SPEAKER_06: Is it the hardest?
- 14:46SPEAKER_06: No.
- 14:46SPEAKER_06: So there it it is, it's optimistic looking at the schedule and how it played.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: For sure.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: I I would say it's it's a more optimistic schedule than a pessimistic schedule.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: Um, especially like I said, especially with the way our home uh breaks up.
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: So and I also like the going away, going home, going away, going home.
- 15:01SPEAKER_04: I think that's I think that's good for the players.
- 15:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:04SPEAKER_06: You're never having to go for two straight weeks being away, you know.
- 15:08SPEAKER_06: It's it's yeah, that's a good, that's a good optimism.
- 15:11SPEAKER_06: My first one that I had is the offensive line upgrades, because this is a position that I think struggled more early on last year and really just as a unit didn't do too well, looking at all sorts of different statistics and everything.
- 15:27SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech did not, and and it's kind of it all a lot of that stuff, it depends on scheme, it depends on uh how many plays you run, uh, this and that.
- 15:35SPEAKER_06: But um, I just think overall you had some guys that were out of position having to play spots on different positions on the offensive line that weren't their natural position that they're gonna succeed at.
- 15:48SPEAKER_06: What we did is we added Rusty Stotz, we added Cole Spencer.
- 15:53SPEAKER_06: Cole Spencer should have played last year, obviously, due to the injury, he did not.
- 15:56SPEAKER_06: We get him for this year.
- 15:58SPEAKER_06: That's two massive upgrades that you're gonna put on this offensive line.
- 16:02SPEAKER_06: You're moving Caleb Rogers over from left tackle to right tackle, you're getting Monroe Mills involved at the other tackle position.
- 16:09SPEAKER_06: Dennis Wilburn is moving from center to one of the guards.
- 16:13SPEAKER_06: It's I have a lot of faith in improvement on this offensive line to be.
- 16:19SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna say they're gonna be one of the top units in the Big 12, but I do think that they're gonna be much improved from last year.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: I'm really glad this is an optimism for you this year.
- 16:27SPEAKER_04: I think last year this was a clear pessimism, and you know, obviously it was pretty messy last year.
- 16:31SPEAKER_04: It was pretty disappointing.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: Um, and that's gonna be a huge point to build on the the onto uh the winning uh block there because you know, especially with how fragile our our quarterbacks seem to be.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: So I mean I'm really happy to see that that's an optimism for you.
- 16:47SPEAKER_06: No doubt.
- 16:48SPEAKER_06: All right, you want to get uh you want to get sad again?
- 16:50SPEAKER_06: Go ahead with your second pessimism.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: Let's get all right, let's get let's get sad.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: So I I'm gonna stick with the scheduling thing real quick.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: So um, you know, I just said that scheduling wise, I think we break really well.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: But I'm gonna go ahead and say that I really don't think we're gonna go undefeated this season.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: I don't think that's gonna happen, but that's not my pessimism.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: My pessimism, pessimism is we're gonna drop a mega dumb game or just utterly blow a game that we absolutely should not have blown.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: I think that we this this team just isn't built to go undefeated yet.
- 17:20SPEAKER_04: I know I know that's a really easy pessimism to swallow, but I just feel like we're going to drop a stinker somewhere, and I just don't know which game it's gonna be.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: I don't know if it's gonna be BYU, I don't know if it's gonna be Baylor, I don't know if it's gonna be Kansas or UCF.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: I just feel like there is a stinker going on somewhere here.
- 17:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's fair.
- 17:37SPEAKER_06: Last year's stinker was Baylor.
- 17:39SPEAKER_06: Baylor was not that much better than us.
- 17:41SPEAKER_06: Baylor beat us, I don't know, 45-17.
- 17:44SPEAKER_06: We were awful that game.
- 17:45SPEAKER_06: We were unprepared.
- 17:47SPEAKER_06: We have talked about it plenty of times.
- 17:49SPEAKER_06: There was so much going on in that game that I think it just was too big for the moment for us, right?
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: For quite frankly, in a first year.
- 17:56SPEAKER_06: In the words of Joe Goodman.
- 17:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, in the words of Joe Goodman, it was too big for that first year Texas Tech Joey Maguire team.
- 18:04SPEAKER_06: But this is a second-year Joey McGuire team, and I I'm gonna disagree here with your pessimism because I do think that we are gonna get up for every game this year.
- 18:15SPEAKER_06: I don't think there's going to be one game that we absolutely drop just due to mindset, you know, or due to being ill-prepared of that, you know, something of that nature.
- 18:26SPEAKER_06: I think there's too much seniority on this team, and there's too Joey's just too good of a coach to let these guys blow one.
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I I same with me.
- 18:37SPEAKER_04: I agree with that.
- 18:38SPEAKER_04: I think that no, we're gonna leave the locker room with the right mindset every time.
- 18:41SPEAKER_04: But you know, there is an element of luck to all of this, and I just think there's going to be a game where we're just unlucky that night, and the other team just comes with a better game plan.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: Like that is allowed to happen, you know, where we're allowed to not be the best uh game plan team if that's a the right adjective to use on the field.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: It's going to happen.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: Um, so I I just think it's it's it's in the cards this year.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: I just don't think it's in enough undefeated season.
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: Sorry, guys, I don't think we're going to the playoffs.
- 19:07SPEAKER_06: To your point, there are games where the other team is just better, you know.
- 19:12SPEAKER_06: Kansas is a firepower on offense.
- 19:14SPEAKER_06: You know, Jalen Daniels could go off for five touchdowns in any game he wants to, you know, in Lawrence.
- 19:20SPEAKER_06: It could be that game, it could be UCF's getting a lot of hype for they could be awesome this year in a game that we're not expecting them to be.
- 19:27SPEAKER_06: So, you know, uh it's it's a good pessimism to have.
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: I think it's it's it's valid, is what I'll say.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: So my second pessimism going into the year, it's the kicker.
- 19:43SPEAKER_06: Now good one.
- 19:45SPEAKER_06: I don't think I I'm not saying that Gino Garcia is gonna be a bad kicker, but he doesn't have a lot of experience.
- 19:53SPEAKER_06: He missed a field goal when he played last year, he was kind of fighting for the job with Trey Wolf for those first three games of the season.
- 19:59SPEAKER_06: I that battle kept going into the season last year.
- 20:02SPEAKER_06: He's a transfer from Houston Christian, did well there.
- 20:07SPEAKER_06: It's just you never know when you're replacing a kicker.
- 20:10SPEAKER_06: You just don't.
- 20:11SPEAKER_06: You don't know if it's all mental with these guys.
- 20:15SPEAKER_06: And if he starts off the season bad, you never know if it's just gonna stick with him for the rest of the year.
- 20:21SPEAKER_06: I always like having returning kickers because uh what we've seen in the past, what we see, even if it's a Trey Wolf situation where he lost the job, retained the job, all that stuff.
- 20:31SPEAKER_06: We haven't seen Gino Car see a kick in real games, except for the one time last year where he missed it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_06: So it's concerning to me.
- 20:39SPEAKER_06: It's I'm pessimistic a little bit on the kicking situation.
- 20:43SPEAKER_04: That's a really good pessimism.
- 20:45SPEAKER_04: Uh, because I think we all understand that kicking is such an underrated aspect of the game.
- 20:48SPEAKER_04: You just expect it to be automatic.
- 20:50SPEAKER_04: You get there's nothing more frustrating than a missed field goal.
- 20:53SPEAKER_04: It's way less frustrating than I mean, way more frustrating than uh not making it in on fourth down, I would say.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: So it's it's just it's automatic points you expect.
- 21:01SPEAKER_04: And if you don't get them, man, you're pissed.
- 21:03SPEAKER_04: So I think I think that's a really good pessimism.
- 21:05unknown: Thanks.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: It can make or break a game.
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 21:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I I hope he's great.
- 21:11SPEAKER_06: I hope it's another John Garabay situation where he's pretty unknown going in and then hasn't has an awesome year, but we just don't know at this point.
- 21:18SPEAKER_06: So all right, let's get happy again.
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: Optimism number two.
- 21:21SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: All right, so optimism number two, you kind of already touched on it, and you're you're much more specific than I was with it.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: Um, I think the returning offensive production is just unmatched.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Like we are looking like cannons blazing right now with our with our quarterbacks, with our wide receivers and our running backs are sneaky good too.
- 21:39SPEAKER_04: So I think our returning production we're about to see, especially with Zach Kitley in year two at the power five level in his system, you know, building up his Texas Tech offense.
- 21:47SPEAKER_04: I think we're about to see some serious fireworks.
- 21:50SPEAKER_04: I I think the offense is not going to be an issue this year.
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: Because I mean, last year the offense did sputter out a little bit, but you were having to juggle um switching through quarterbacks and such.
- 21:58SPEAKER_04: So I'm hoping this year that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: That it's that that's not so much the case, but the offensive firepower, I think, this year is just gonna nuke each team.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna be top quarter of CFB in offense.
- 22:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this ties into my second optimism, which is your entire coaching staff minus the wide receiver's coach returned.
- 22:18SPEAKER_06: You are in the same system that you were in last year.
- 22:21SPEAKER_06: Zach Kitley running the show.
- 22:23SPEAKER_06: You have Josh Cochran returning with the tight ends, you have Kenny Perry returning with the running backs, you have Stephen Hamby returning with the offensive line.
- 22:34SPEAKER_06: It's so massive to have these coaches return because it's the same system and the same players that are now in the second year of the system.
- 22:41SPEAKER_06: Continuity.
- 22:42SPEAKER_06: Continuity is huge in college football.
- 22:44SPEAKER_06: And this is at offense, we're returning so many great players, like you mentioned.
- 22:49SPEAKER_06: So um I think the returning staff, the returning players is just huge for Texas Tech.
- 22:55SPEAKER_06: The seniority as a whole, the fact that you have, I think, 13 super seniors on this team is awesome.
- 23:03SPEAKER_04: 100%.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: Like I said, I we're definitely gonna be top three in the Big 12 in offensive production, I think, and definitely top 25% in uh uh college football as a whole.
- 23:12SPEAKER_04: That's why with the returning uh defensive production, I'm not so nervous about.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: I think our offense will be able to pull us over the finish line, but I am really hoping that defense can at least match last year.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: But uh, you know, we we know how it goes with relying on the offense exclusively.
- 23:28SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 23:28SPEAKER_06: No, absolutely.
- 23:29SPEAKER_06: All right, man.
- 23:30SPEAKER_06: Last pessimism.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: All right, so my last pessimism is what I said based on luck.
- 23:37SPEAKER_04: Um, with this one, it's injuries at shallow positions.
- 23:41SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm I'm talking like your offensive line, you know, I'm talking about uh your most of your defense.
- 23:46SPEAKER_04: You're the only positions you're not that worried about a player going down is like such as your quarterback.
- 23:51SPEAKER_04: Even that, you know, that's that's still not great in your wide receivers just because of how much you have in the bank.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: But as a whole, I don't know how deep of a team we are.
- 24:00SPEAKER_04: You know, we're a very veteran team and we have a lot of skill, like a lot of very high skilled players, but behind them, I don't know how solid we are back there.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: And that's what makes me nervous, if especially if we start racking up some injuries, which is gonna happen in this sport.
- 24:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's especially prevalent, I think, in the defensive backs.
- 24:19SPEAKER_06: The starting, the top two that we have Ray Shad Williams and and Malik Dunlap are great corners, great sides, great everything.
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: But behind them, we have a bunch of young guys, guys that haven't proven it.
- 24:31SPEAKER_06: I mean, Jalen Peoples is there.
- 24:33SPEAKER_06: Uh who else?
- 24:35SPEAKER_06: I mean, AJ McCarty, the transfer from Baylor, Mo Horn, who is a four-star prospect, but hasn't played really.
- 24:43SPEAKER_06: Uh, Landon Hullaby is gonna have to potentially play some minutes if one of those guys goes down.
- 24:47SPEAKER_06: So, yeah, defensive backs, especially with that, and obviously inside linebackers, like I mentioned earlier.
- 24:53SPEAKER_06: Uh, though those are concerning if you get a guy going down.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: 100%, dude.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: And that's that's definitely like uh my this is probably my biggest pessimism of them all, is if you start breaking up this what looks like a really solid ship, I think some holes can really start taking on some water.
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: So I'm really hoping that we we we get the other side of the luck and people stay pretty healthy.
- 25:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:14SPEAKER_06: All right, I'll finish her off here with uh a little pessimistic take.
- 25:21SPEAKER_06: I know that the coaching staff has hyped up these couple players Miles Cole and Steve Linton.
- 25:30SPEAKER_06: They are huge, they have all the intangibles.
- 25:34SPEAKER_06: The coaching staff has a lot of faith that they're gonna be returning production on the edge there, but they don't have the experience to prove it.
- 25:42SPEAKER_06: They haven't proved anything yet.
- 25:44SPEAKER_06: And it's not necessarily a bad thing, you know.
- 25:49SPEAKER_06: I think these guys can't step into the place and be the guys that they need to be at that edge rushing position, but I I'm just a little pessimistic that they're gonna automatically we should automatically assume that these guys are gonna be awesome.
- 26:04SPEAKER_06: And that that's probably my most pessimistic take here.
- 26:07SPEAKER_06: I probably pissed off a lot of Red Raiders right there because uh this coaching staff has been hyping up Steve Linton and Miles Cole very much.
- 26:14SPEAKER_06: They're both 6'5 and 6'6 with huge wingspans.
- 26:18SPEAKER_06: Everything on paper should be them being good, but I just don't know if that's a guarantee.
- 26:25SPEAKER_06: Steven Rodriguez, the hater.
- 26:27SPEAKER_06: Look at you, not a hater.
- 26:29SPEAKER_06: You're calling you're calling out, dude.
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: Not a hater.
- 26:32SPEAKER_06: Very rare occurrence on the talking tech pod.
- 26:35SPEAKER_06: You are hating.
- 26:36SPEAKER_06: It's a little optimistic because I like the depth at this position.
- 26:40SPEAKER_06: I think Isaac Smith is fantastic.
- 26:42SPEAKER_06: I think Bryce Ramirez is gonna come back and be a solid player.
- 26:46SPEAKER_06: There's good edge rushing on this team.
- 26:48SPEAKER_06: I just don't know if Steve Linden and Miles Cole are gonna be Tyree Wilson or even be three-fourths of Tyree Wilson, like what some of these tech fans want to believe.
- 26:58SPEAKER_06: Which power to you, man.
- 26:59SPEAKER_06: I have a lot of faith in these guys, but I don't know that he that he's gonna be Tyree.
- 27:04SPEAKER_06: He's gonna be enough to replace him.
- 27:06SPEAKER_04: Wow, well, Steven's off uh pessimism is this player won't be Tyree Wilson.
- 27:10SPEAKER_04: You know what?
- 27:11SPEAKER_06: These two players won't be Tyree Wilson.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: My pessimism is Tyler Shuck won't be Patrick Mahomes.
- 27:18SPEAKER_06: All right, okay.
- 27:22SPEAKER_06: Different situation.
- 27:26SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 27:26SPEAKER_06: I hope I get some people that don't just absolutely rail me for that take.
- 27:30SPEAKER_06: But yeah, I had to come out with a bang.
- 27:32SPEAKER_06: Um, I also had kind of conference-wide strength.
- 27:34SPEAKER_06: I think this conference overall is pretty, you know, even when you get to like the eighth best team or the ninth best team, they can still beat you on any night, you know, it's the Big 12.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: So yeah, that's that's kind of a the other one I had in the bank.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, good one.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, this this this league is stacked this year.
- 27:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, obviously it's it's not like you're playing a bunch of Alabamas, but top to bottom, dude.
- 27:54SPEAKER_04: This league is stout, man.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: It's it's a whole lot of at least mid-level that can get you any night.
- 27:59SPEAKER_06: And there's a lot of unknown.
- 28:01SPEAKER_06: Like, who knows?
- 28:01SPEAKER_06: Cincinnati may have a good team, you know, or Houston may have a sneaky good team.
- 28:06SPEAKER_06: You never know.
- 28:07SPEAKER_06: So, yeah, you I think UCF, I think they're expecting them to have pretty good, but they're expecting that before.
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: You never know.
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: You know, they could come in and just be awesome right away.
- 28:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but you you know, so let's let's finish her off with some positivity here.
- 28:21SPEAKER_06: Give us your final optimism for all right.
- 28:24SPEAKER_04: So, my my my final optimism is uh goes right back to the listeners here, goes right back to uh Red Raider Nation is the fan support for the season is unreal.
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: I haven't seen the fan, I haven't seen fan support like this in years and years and years.
- 28:36SPEAKER_04: I think this there's there's never been more hype behind this football team as long as I've been a true fan.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: Because the the game we're selling out games, the the booster support is huge right now, and it seems like everybody's sold all in on the coaching staff.
- 28:51SPEAKER_04: There's no doubts.
- 28:52SPEAKER_04: It seems like everybody's on the same page right now.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: And I I just don't know if that was the same thing last year with the first year head coach.
- 28:58SPEAKER_04: Obviously, before that, we were not on the same page.
- 29:01SPEAKER_04: So right now, I think it's really great to see everybody on the same page to support this team, and I think every day is gonna be a battle in the Jones how where there's gonna be absolutely a home field effect, and I think we're gonna be loud, rowdy, and really make it make it real scary for the other guys.
- 29:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no doubt.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: That that's a good one.
- 29:18SPEAKER_06: That's a good one to have.
- 29:18SPEAKER_06: I think this fan base is the highest on tech football it's been in years.
- 29:22SPEAKER_06: We're excited, we're selling out tickets, we we've already got two sold out.
- 29:26SPEAKER_06: I think we're gonna have pretty much every game sold out.
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: Um, this it's there's a lot to be yeah, there's a lot to be excited about, and the tech fans are here because we are so desperate for a winning football team, and we're ready for it.
- 29:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 29:39SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 29:40SPEAKER_04: What are what are you finishing this off on?
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: I'm going off script.
- 29:43SPEAKER_06: I thought I was gonna do instant impact transfers to be excited about.
- 29:46SPEAKER_06: I'm going to kind of go off you a little bit.
- 29:51SPEAKER_06: There are so many games this year that can change the trajectory of your program.
- 29:59SPEAKER_06: Oregon is one of them.
- 30:01SPEAKER_06: UT is one of them.
- 30:03SPEAKER_06: Potentially TCU if they're they happen to be as good as they were last year, potentially Kansas State, if they're also good at home, you have a lot of opportunities to change your program's mindset and change the overall perception of it with a couple wins here.
- 30:20SPEAKER_06: If you beat the Oregon Ducks in the non-conference in week two, people are gonna start talking about Texas Tech a little more.
- 30:28SPEAKER_06: If you beat the University of Texas, and if they're as good as people think they're gonna be this year, and you're playing them that last conference game of the season, and you beat them in Austin, they're gonna start talking about Texas Tech football a little differently.
- 30:42SPEAKER_06: And so you just have a lot of games on your schedule where you can make a statement as a program if you're Texas Tech.
- 30:50SPEAKER_04: You're right, man.
- 30:51SPEAKER_04: I think the season really is set up for those scenarios to happen for you.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: Like, I I don't know how often you've been in this moment to really turn, turn, make a U-turn, like you're pointing out, because obviously we the numbers speak for themselves.
- 31:04SPEAKER_04: We've been one of the absolute worst teams of the Big 12 for years now, record-wise.
- 31:09SPEAKER_04: So you absolutely have the chance to really start changing the uh the like you said, the perception of the program that it hasn't been since the 2000s.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: Man, I I I can I can even like one-up you on pointing out these games.
- 31:21SPEAKER_04: How about just sweeping the state of Texas, beating every single Texas team you play, and like really making a statement for the recruiting trail, really make a statement of UT walking out the door.
- 31:30SPEAKER_04: Um that Tech Tech is a real power player in the state, and it just quite frankly hasn't been in a while.
- 31:35SPEAKER_04: So you really have a real opportunity to reclaim that mantle, get back on the podium, and actually matter again on the grand scheme of things.
- 31:42SPEAKER_04: It's been a while, and this is absolutely your opportunity to do so.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: Good point, man.
- 31:46SPEAKER_04: I love that.
- 31:46SPEAKER_06: You have a great opportunity to stop being the dark horse and start being the constant contender and the pick for who's gonna win the Big 12 this year, you know, not just Texas Tech gonna be the dark horse.
- 31:58SPEAKER_06: Oh, you might get them in Lubbock one game.
- 32:01SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be like, okay, this program is a machine and we're gonna keep rolling.
- 32:05SPEAKER_06: So that's I you have a lot of opportunity, and I'm excited for it.
- 32:09SPEAKER_04: I love that, man.
- 32:10SPEAKER_04: I like us going off the team, not just not just straight up players here, players there.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: So I love the uh the abstract picks.
- 32:17SPEAKER_06: I am excited about the instant impact transfers.
- 32:20SPEAKER_06: Dre McCray, CJ Baskerville, Rusty Stotts, Braylon Lux.
- 32:24SPEAKER_06: I mean, we got a lot of things.
- 32:25SPEAKER_06: Dude, the names you just listed are awesome football names.
- 32:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 32:28SPEAKER_06: Steve Linden, too.
- 32:29SPEAKER_06: I know, I know I said it in the pessimisms.
- 32:31SPEAKER_06: He could be awesome, he could be really good.
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: Good football name.
- 32:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 32:37SPEAKER_06: So excited about this team.
- 32:39SPEAKER_06: We are more optimistic than we are pessimistic, and that's gonna show in the next segment when we talk about our record predictions.
- 32:45SPEAKER_06: But do you want to move on to record predictions?
- 32:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah, let's go.
- 32:48SPEAKER_06: All right, man.
- 32:49SPEAKER_06: We what we did hop on the bear den pod, talked about every game.
- 32:52SPEAKER_06: We're also gonna hop on with some fellow Red Raiders tomorrow.
- 32:56SPEAKER_06: That's gonna release, probably on Tuesday or Wednesday, but we're gonna talk about the season schedule.
- 33:01SPEAKER_06: We're gonna talk about the games, just a quick hit, win loss, win-loss, what we think were gonna happen.
- 33:07SPEAKER_06: So you want to start with week one, Wyoming, Laramie.
- 33:12SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: Week one, Wyoming, Laramie, we win.
- 33:16SPEAKER_04: You know, before I was thinking like this is just a game you want to escape, and I I could still excuse it for being that way, but right now, I want to just blow up the state of Wyoming.
- 33:25SPEAKER_04: I want us to just get out of there with like by like three touchdowns.
- 33:29SPEAKER_04: I don't know about you.
- 33:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, the line's at 14.
- 33:32SPEAKER_06: I'm still gonna stick with my take of it's gonna be a little more difficult than what we think.
- 33:36SPEAKER_06: I think we're gonna not escape it.
- 33:38SPEAKER_06: I think it's gonna be a win.
- 33:40SPEAKER_06: You're not gonna look at this team and be like, oh, that was disappointing after this game.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: But I do think that it's gonna be a two-touchdown, potentially seven point, ten-point victory.
- 33:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 33:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so one and oh, let's go to Oregon.
- 33:54SPEAKER_06: Biggest game in how long at Texas Tech?
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: At least at a conference.
- 34:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, it's huge.
- 34:01SPEAKER_06: It's so massive getting this team that that is, I think, 15 in the preseason poll.
- 34:06SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 34:07SPEAKER_06: Potentially, they win their first game, they can move up, they can, but they're gonna be the top 15.
- 34:12SPEAKER_06: Potentially, we're right outside of it.
- 34:13SPEAKER_06: So this could be a ranked matchup, depending on how the top 25 ends up.
- 34:18SPEAKER_06: But what do you think about the Oregon Duck game?
- 34:21SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna upset the Oregon Ducks, dude.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: I think the Oregon Ducks are walking to a buzzsaw.
- 34:26SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna get them early.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: I think the Lubbock atmosphere is gonna be too much to handle.
- 34:30SPEAKER_04: I think Texas Tech is winning this game.
- 34:32SPEAKER_04: I think we are upsetting the Oregon Ducks, really, like you just said with your optimism, really setting the tone for the season that this is gonna be a big one.
- 34:40SPEAKER_04: So that we're gonna we're about to go and blow up the Big 12 in a big way.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: So I think I think we get the Oregon Ducks big time in Lubbock.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: Like, I mean, I'm not saying we're blowing them out, but I think we upset them for sure.
- 34:49SPEAKER_06: I also have a lot of confidence in this game.
- 34:51SPEAKER_06: I think it's going to be a tight game.
- 34:52SPEAKER_06: I think it's going to be similar to UT last year, similar to OU last year, where it's going to give you three heart attacks.
- 34:59SPEAKER_06: But I do think that Texas Tech does upset the Oregon Ducks and kind of puts herself on a pedestal.
- 35:07SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, dude.
- 35:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_04: This would be huge, like you said for the program.
- 35:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no doubt.
- 35:11SPEAKER_06: You want to go to Tarleton?
- 35:13SPEAKER_06: Win.
- 35:14SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 35:15SPEAKER_04: This is gonna be a tough one.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: No, dude.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: This is not the Matt Wells era.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: We're gonna annihilate Tarleton State Texans, okay, with their lay-mass mascot.
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be an easy game.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: We're gonna blow them out.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be a sellout.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be loud.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be a night game.
- 35:26SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be fun.
- 35:27SPEAKER_04: And it's just gonna be just gonna be fun watching us play NCAA on easy mode.
- 35:31SPEAKER_06: They also announced throwback uniforms for this game.
- 35:34SPEAKER_06: So let's go.
- 35:35SPEAKER_06: We were 0-3 last year when we wore our throwback.
- 35:38SPEAKER_06: So I'm right.
- 35:39SPEAKER_06: Relax.
- 35:40SPEAKER_06: No, I like I like the strategy of playing using them against Charlton State to get that dub and get that monkey off our back, you know?
- 35:47SPEAKER_06: Good call.
- 35:47SPEAKER_06: So, okay, yes.
- 35:48SPEAKER_06: It's a we're gonna be tall.
- 35:50SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 35:52SPEAKER_06: 3-0.
- 35:53SPEAKER_06: 3-0 for both of us.
- 35:55SPEAKER_06: At West Virginia.
- 35:57SPEAKER_06: Do you trust the climb?
- 35:59SPEAKER_06: Do we start off 1-0 in the Big 12?
- 36:02SPEAKER_04: I am breaking the law.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: I do not trust the climb.
- 36:05SPEAKER_04: The climb is invalid.
- 36:07SPEAKER_04: It is an avalanche on that climb, sir.
- 36:10SPEAKER_04: You're not going up, you're going down.
- 36:11SPEAKER_04: Uh we are 4-0, sir, in Morgantown.
- 36:15SPEAKER_06: I'm conflicted on this.
- 36:16SPEAKER_06: Not because I'm not shot.
- 36:18SPEAKER_06: No, no, not because I don't think Texas Tech is gonna win the gun.
- 36:21SPEAKER_06: I do think Texas Tech is gonna win this game.
- 36:23SPEAKER_06: But I also picked West Virginia to upset Penn State in week one.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: I thought that was just the beer talking yesterday.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: No, very seriously.
- 36:31SPEAKER_06: I think it's gonna be this is gonna this is my hot take of week one.
- 36:35SPEAKER_06: Is West Virginia is is no, I'm not.
- 36:37SPEAKER_06: I've had one whiskey.
- 36:38SPEAKER_06: I'm okay.
- 36:43SPEAKER_06: Neil Brown is going to beat Penn State.
- 36:48SPEAKER_06: Maybe not by two touchdowns.
- 36:49SPEAKER_06: Sorry, you're irrational.
- 36:51SPEAKER_06: But West Virginia is gonna upset Penn State.
- 36:54SPEAKER_06: It's gonna happen.
- 36:56SPEAKER_06: I am fully in.
- 36:57SPEAKER_06: I would bet my house on it.
- 37:00SPEAKER_06: What?
- 37:00SPEAKER_06: No, you wouldn't.
- 37:01SPEAKER_05: No, you wouldn't.
- 37:01SPEAKER_05: No, I wouldn't.
- 37:02SPEAKER_05: No, I wouldn't.
- 37:04SPEAKER_05: Dude, Neil Neil Brown is cooked.
- 37:06SPEAKER_05: He is done at West Virginia.
- 37:08SPEAKER_05: The Mountaineers are gonna be so bad, man.
- 37:11SPEAKER_04: They might they're gonna upset one team, and I pray it's not Texas Tech, but I don't think it's gonna be Penn State.
- 37:17SPEAKER_05: As funny as that would be, they upset Penn State and then just poop all over the floor in the Big 12.
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: I that would be that would be phenomenal content.
- 37:24SPEAKER_05: That's the ideal situation here.
- 37:27SPEAKER_06: West Virginia goes in, beats Penn State, beats Pitt in the backyard brawl, and then just shits the bed in the Big 12.
- 37:34SPEAKER_05: That would be so funny.
- 37:35SPEAKER_05: Does Neil Brown theoretically keep his job?
- 37:38SPEAKER_06: I don't know, man.
- 37:40SPEAKER_06: At this point, he's kept his job far longer than I thought he would.
- 37:43SPEAKER_05: So well, you gotta sign the McStentions, baby.
- 37:45SPEAKER_06: Hey, you win the big ones, you're signed on.
- 37:49SPEAKER_06: But no, I do think Texas Tech starts off 4-0 winning Morgantown.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, me too.
- 37:54SPEAKER_06: All right, Houston in Lubbock.
- 37:57SPEAKER_06: It's been a year since Houston has played Texas Tech in Lubbock.
- 38:01SPEAKER_06: Donovan Smith named the starting quarterback at the University of Houston.
- 38:06SPEAKER_06: Your boy Dana coming back.
- 38:08SPEAKER_06: What do you think?
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: Five and oh, baby.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: You know, uh, as much as we love Donnie, Donnie being their immediate starting quarterback is a good sign for us, a bad sign for Houston.
- 38:19SPEAKER_04: They're not in good shape down there, uh, in in down there in Southeast Texas.
- 38:23SPEAKER_04: It's not looking good on the oil coast down there.
- 38:27SPEAKER_04: I this could be potentially Dana's last year, you know, honestly.
- 38:30SPEAKER_04: So I think I'm thinking uh I'm thinking this is gonna be ugly for Houston.
- 38:34SPEAKER_05: You're a big Dana guy.
- 38:36SPEAKER_04: I know, but I I just like him as a dude.
- 38:38SPEAKER_04: Like I just think he's just a character.
- 38:40SPEAKER_04: Like he's he's he's like a Mike Gundy.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: You just want to hear what he has to say.
- 38:43SPEAKER_04: But other than that, it's just no, he's uh this could be his last year unless unless uh for Tid, I just cannot uh afford to buy him out again.
- 38:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's true.
- 38:52SPEAKER_06: He's he's putting too much money in the Rockets or something else at this point to give money for the Dana buyout.
- 38:59SPEAKER_06: But no, I I disagree about Donovan Smith.
- 39:02SPEAKER_06: I think he's gonna be good, I think he's really truly gonna be a good quarterback at the University of Houston, and it's not really a sign that Houston's gonna be bad this year because they named Donovan Smith their quarterback.
- 39:12SPEAKER_06: They're gonna be able to do that.
- 39:13SPEAKER_06: They just have so much else to replace.
- 39:16SPEAKER_06: Like they lost a whole lot, and I don't think they the replacements are gonna you know meet the standards of a Tank Dell or a Clayton Toon or any of that.
- 39:26SPEAKER_06: So, you know, I I Houston could be sneaky.
- 39:30SPEAKER_06: I don't think they're gonna be good this year, but they could be sneaky, and so this game a little bit, it might be a little tighter than what we expect, but yes, I do expect Texas Tech to take the dub and start off 5-0.
- 39:42SPEAKER_04: Same.
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: We're still we're still in agreement up till now.
- 39:45SPEAKER_06: Cool, all right.
- 39:47SPEAKER_06: Baylor in Waco, we're gonna be there.
- 39:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we got tickets.
- 39:51SPEAKER_06: Hell yeah.
- 39:51SPEAKER_06: We we kind of got hosed on those tickets.
- 39:53SPEAKER_06: We bought through Baylor, we should have bought through a third party, whatever.
- 39:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, whatever that we're gonna be there, and we're gonna have a lot of friends there, and we're gonna see our buddy Joe Goodman and Matt Workman there.
- 40:02SPEAKER_06: So, what do you think?
- 40:04SPEAKER_06: Baylor, Texas Tech, and Waco.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: All right, see, here's where I'm gonna start mixing in some realism here.
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: I think I think we're gonna I have this as an L.
- 40:11SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go ahead and follow my from for the most part my template that uh uh we did on the bear den.
- 40:17SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna we're gonna drop some here, kind of with my pessimism.
- 40:20SPEAKER_04: I absolutely think this is the team we're gonna beat.
- 40:21SPEAKER_04: Pretty much every game I'm gonna say we're gonna lose is we could absolutely win as well.
- 40:24SPEAKER_04: It's not just straight up this is a tough mountain to climb.
- 40:27SPEAKER_04: No, I think we're we're gonna be well matched with everybody, but I do think this one's gonna be an L.
- 40:32SPEAKER_06: Fair.
- 40:34SPEAKER_06: I think we win.
- 40:36SPEAKER_06: I I don't I think we start 6-0.
- 40:38SPEAKER_06: I think we are ready to go in the toilet bowl in Waco.
- 40:43SPEAKER_06: I want to beat them very badly.
- 40:45SPEAKER_06: I just want to I want Joey to beat them.
- 40:48SPEAKER_06: I want Dave Randa to lose.
- 40:50SPEAKER_06: I like Dave Viranda, but I want him to lose.
- 40:53SPEAKER_06: I want Baylor to lose.
- 40:54SPEAKER_06: I want us to have a good time while we're in Waco.
- 40:57SPEAKER_06: Yes, six and oh, Texas Tech.
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: 100%.
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: Awesome.
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: Let's go.
- 41:02SPEAKER_04: Bull eligible after Waco.
- 41:04SPEAKER_06: You're five and oh, I'm six and oh.
- 41:06SPEAKER_06: This is very optimistic.
- 41:08SPEAKER_06: But the very front of our schedule, maybe besides Oregon, is favorable for Texas Tech.
- 41:13SPEAKER_06: So that's good.
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: That's good for the year.
- 41:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:16SPEAKER_06: Kansas State in Lubbock.
- 41:18SPEAKER_06: This is a, I believe, still no bye week.
- 41:22SPEAKER_06: Kansas State coming to Lubbock.
- 41:24SPEAKER_06: Chris Kleiman still the head coach, defending Big 12 champs.
- 41:30SPEAKER_06: What do you think about Kansas State?
- 41:32SPEAKER_04: We're skidding.
- 41:33SPEAKER_04: Two losses in a row.
- 41:35SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah.
- 41:36SPEAKER_04: Uh Kansas State beats us every damn year.
- 41:39SPEAKER_04: It's like it, it was like it's like an Oklahoma State situation.
- 41:41SPEAKER_04: I don't know what the hell it is.
- 41:43SPEAKER_04: But these teams, I mean, all right, look, a lot of teams beat us in the last decade, but it's this is this is absolutely one of those teams that just seems to get us no matter what what we do.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: So and I think Kansas State's gonna be a very good team this year.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: They're gonna be a big 12 contender.
- 41:56SPEAKER_04: So I think this is another loss.
- 41:57SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 41:58SPEAKER_04: Unfortunately, at home.
- 42:00SPEAKER_06: This is the first L I have on the schedule for us, and it's pretty similar to the Oklahoma State situation, like you mentioned.
- 42:09SPEAKER_06: It's just a team we can't beat for some strange freaking reason.
- 42:14SPEAKER_06: We cannot beat this team.
- 42:15SPEAKER_06: Kansas State has been a much better program than Texas Tech the past 10 years.
- 42:19SPEAKER_06: We all know that.
- 42:20SPEAKER_06: But realistically, there's no reason with talent on both rosters that we should be losing to this team as much as we lose to them.
- 42:27SPEAKER_06: So I think that trend continues.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: It's unfortunate, and I hate that it's at home, but I think we do lose this game to the Wildcats.
- 42:36SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 42:37SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, we're still in good shape, though.
- 42:39SPEAKER_04: Like the season is still absolutely within our grasp of going to the Big 12 championship and all that.
- 42:43SPEAKER_04: So it's still a good season so far.
- 42:44SPEAKER_06: We're good.
- 42:45SPEAKER_06: Well, I'm at six and one, you're at five and two for these predictions right now.
- 42:49SPEAKER_06: Next game, going into Provo at BYU.
- 42:53SPEAKER_06: First time we played them in, I don't know, I don't know the last time we played BYU, but it's probably a long time.
- 43:00SPEAKER_06: So this is it's a tough environment, Provo.
- 43:03SPEAKER_06: It is it's a decent, at least decent football team.
- 43:08SPEAKER_06: They're not gonna be horrible, they're not gonna be absolute garbage.
- 43:12SPEAKER_06: So at BYU, what do you think?
- 43:14SPEAKER_04: I think with BYU, it's kind of like an unknown commodity.
- 43:17SPEAKER_04: Like we don't really understand what we're gonna get with them yet, even with the home environment and the team, but they are expected to be one of the lesser teams, definitely a back half Big 12 this year.
- 43:27SPEAKER_04: Um, kind of an adjustment into the power five sort of transition.
- 43:30SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna win.
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: I think it's gonna be a tough game.
- 43:32SPEAKER_04: I don't think we blow them out or anything like that, but I think it's I think it's a win for us in Pro Bowl for the first time for the inaugural Big 12 game there.
- 43:38SPEAKER_06: I also think this is going to be a win for Texas Tech.
- 43:42SPEAKER_06: This is the game that I'm probably scared of most after UT on the road.
- 43:49SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 43:50SPEAKER_06: Really?
- 43:50SPEAKER_06: I I just think that fan base is awesome, man.
- 43:53SPEAKER_06: They have a great, they have a great environment.
- 43:55SPEAKER_06: They bring it every time.
- 43:56SPEAKER_06: It's an unknown environment for Texas Tech, and a lot of players.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: From Texas, probably gonna be pretty chilly.
- 44:02SPEAKER_06: The elevation is gonna be it's gonna mess with us because we're not used to that environment.
- 44:06SPEAKER_04: So uh you say that, but Texas Tech is the highest elevated team in the Big 12 right now.
- 44:11SPEAKER_06: Okay, cool.
- 44:12SPEAKER_06: You we're we're not dealing with the mountains at in Lovick.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: We're like a mile above sea level, bro.
- 44:18SPEAKER_06: Okay, cool, perfect.
- 44:20SPEAKER_06: No, I think this is I think this is gonna scare us a little bit, but I do think we end up with a dub against the Kooks.
- 44:26SPEAKER_06: Me too, man.
- 44:28SPEAKER_06: All right, rolling on TCU.
- 44:31SPEAKER_06: Thursday night game.
- 44:33SPEAKER_06: We do have the bye week after BYU going into TCU.
- 44:37SPEAKER_06: It's a bye week, but then we play a Thursday night game.
- 44:40SPEAKER_06: So it's kind of it's like a by half a bye week is what we get, which is unfortunate, but I get why they're doing it.
- 44:46SPEAKER_06: We have the centennial celebration this game.
- 44:50SPEAKER_06: We are doing a blackout this game.
- 44:53SPEAKER_06: We're playing an in-state rival this game.
- 44:56SPEAKER_06: Do we beat TCU on Thursday night?
- 44:59SPEAKER_04: I think we win this one, man.
- 45:01SPEAKER_04: Uh, it's a tricky one.
- 45:02SPEAKER_04: It's absolutely a tricky one.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: I think this one could go either way 50-50 on uh if you're doing all the going down the list going win, loss, win, loss.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: Um, but I do think we win this one.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: I think we uh I think we get Sonny back.
- 45:12SPEAKER_04: I think uh well, obviously last year was a miracle season for them.
- 45:16SPEAKER_04: I think they regress this year.
- 45:17SPEAKER_04: There's still gonna be a good team.
- 45:19SPEAKER_04: Um, but I think we get them in Lubbock.
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: I think it's gonna be a rocking atmosphere as well.
- 45:22SPEAKER_04: So I think we're gonna win this one.
- 45:24SPEAKER_06: We're both sitting at seven and two after this game.
- 45:27SPEAKER_06: I think TCU, I think we drop it.
- 45:29SPEAKER_05: Oh, bruh.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: I think are your two losses for us are at home.
- 45:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:34SPEAKER_06: And it's when I looked back at it, I was like, uh I don't know.
- 45:38SPEAKER_06: But no, I just like Kansas State has our number, and TCU has this weird juju going on right now, where I just don't know on a Thursday night that we're gonna have this outrageous atmosphere that you're implying for TCU.
- 45:55SPEAKER_04: I think we will.
- 45:56SPEAKER_04: I think it'll be a good atmosphere.
- 45:57SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 45:58SPEAKER_06: I'm a little I'm a little hesitant to say that this is going to be a win because I don't I truly don't think that we're gonna be TCU.
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: The professors need to be cool and cancel Friday classes.
- 46:09SPEAKER_04: All right, you are an absolute nerd if you schedule a morning class on a Friday, okay?
- 46:13SPEAKER_04: You cannot be that guy.
- 46:15SPEAKER_06: If the professors all band together and they cancel Friday class, I may change my prediction.
- 46:19SPEAKER_06: But as of right now, I'm gonna have us sitting at our second loss of the year against TCU.
- 46:24SPEAKER_04: Hey, we're still happy with what's that, seven and two?
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: I'm thrilled with seven and two.
- 46:29SPEAKER_04: Very happy with that.
- 46:29SPEAKER_06: Uh I mean, we're not gonna be thrilled in the moment.
- 46:32SPEAKER_06: This is something I say every year.
- 46:33SPEAKER_06: After we lose a game, we are like the sky's falling, everything is the worst.
- 46:38SPEAKER_06: We are the worst team in the world, nothing will change.
- 46:42SPEAKER_06: It happens every year.
- 46:44SPEAKER_06: So after this game, I will be upset, but overall, looking back at it a year later, I will be like, yes, seven and two was fine.
- 46:53SPEAKER_06: 100%.
- 46:54SPEAKER_06: All right, all right, man.
- 46:56SPEAKER_06: Kansas going into Lawrence away game against the Jayhawks.
- 47:00SPEAKER_06: What do you think?
- 47:01SPEAKER_04: All right, you know, Kansas is getting better.
- 47:03SPEAKER_04: This is not a game where you just look at it and go, All right, you can ignore it a game anymore, thankfully.
- 47:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's a good thing.
- 47:09SPEAKER_04: Um, uh, it's it's a trickier game than normal, but I think we go in there and get the job done pretty easily.
- 47:14SPEAKER_04: I I just I think Kansas still has a long way to go, and I think the only way they're gonna win their games is you know with some upsets.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: So um I think and I don't think TechSteck is gonna be that team for them.
- 47:24SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna win this game.
- 47:27SPEAKER_06: We are going to beat the shit out of Kansas.
- 47:34SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry.
- 47:35SPEAKER_06: This is something I firmly believe.
- 47:37SPEAKER_06: We are going to beat the shit out of Kansas.
- 47:44SPEAKER_05: Is there any reason behind this?
- 47:47SPEAKER_06: If I said this two years ago, it would have been like, yeah, duh.
- 47:51SPEAKER_06: If I said this now, it's more of a bull prediction.
- 47:53SPEAKER_06: I like Jalen Daniels, I think he's a great quarterback.
- 47:57SPEAKER_06: I think that's all they got is Jalen Daniels.
- 48:00SPEAKER_06: I don't think they have any trace of a defense still.
- 48:03SPEAKER_06: I like Leipold as a coach.
- 48:05SPEAKER_06: He's done wonders at Kansas, but I don't think he's like this supreme, unbelievable Nick Saban esque coach that some people think he is.
- 48:15SPEAKER_06: I think we're gonna, I think we're coming off an L against TCU, a game that I think a lot of us wanted to win.
- 48:20SPEAKER_06: And Joey's gonna get his guys ready, and I think we're gonna beat the shit out of Kansas.
- 48:26SPEAKER_04: We're gonna work we have to clip that.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: We're gonna beat the shit out of Kansas.
- 48:31SPEAKER_05: I love it, man.
- 48:32SPEAKER_05: I love that energy, man.
- 48:34SPEAKER_05: We were just like so serious for a while.
- 48:35SPEAKER_05: I'm glad you threw in a beat the shit out of a team.
- 48:37SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 48:38SPEAKER_06: If this is if this is a freezing cold take, I'll take the L.
- 48:41SPEAKER_06: But no, I think I think we're gonna beat the shit out of Kansas.
- 48:44SPEAKER_04: Well, I like how you how nerve how how walking around eggshells you were with West Virginia and Houston, but then you look at Kansas like beat the shit out of them, it's done.
- 48:51SPEAKER_04: I'm while the other teams are like comparable to Kansas.
- 48:54SPEAKER_06: I'm doing I'm doing the same thing with Wyoming.
- 48:56SPEAKER_06: We should beat the shit out of Wyoming, but I I'm like I'm I'm kind of walking on eggshells a little bit, but this game, for some reason, something's telling me in the brain, we're just gonna absolutely murder them.
- 49:07SPEAKER_06: Good Lawrence.
- 49:08SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be great.
- 49:09SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be great.
- 49:10SPEAKER_06: Moving on.
- 49:10SPEAKER_06: So wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 49:11SPEAKER_06: What we got?
- 49:12SPEAKER_06: Eight, eight and two for both of us?
- 49:14SPEAKER_06: Eight and two.
- 49:16SPEAKER_06: UCF, last home game of the season, senior night, Tyler Shuck's gonna get honored, Tony Bradford's gonna get honored, Jalen Hutchings, uh, Baylor Cup.
- 49:30SPEAKER_06: A lot of great players at Texas Tech are gonna get honored this game.
- 49:34SPEAKER_06: You're gonna be there.
- 49:35SPEAKER_05: Yes, I am gonna be right.
- 49:38SPEAKER_06: I'm I'm excited for you.
- 49:39SPEAKER_06: I wish I could make it back to Lubbock.
- 49:41SPEAKER_06: Next year for sure, it will happen.
- 49:43SPEAKER_06: This year, not gonna happen.
- 49:45SPEAKER_06: UCF, what do you think?
- 49:48SPEAKER_04: This one's gonna be a tougher game than I think people think it is.
- 49:50SPEAKER_04: Uh, but I do think, like you made all those great points.
- 49:53SPEAKER_04: I think the atmosphere is gonna be electric because it's gonna be the last game of the year.
- 49:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, all the senior students and players are gonna be out there going crazy.
- 49:59SPEAKER_04: Um, and the Gus bus is gonna run for some trouble.
- 50:02SPEAKER_04: Um, I think we win.
- 50:04SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna I think we're gonna win pretty comfortably as well.
- 50:07SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna be too much to handle.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna be we're gonna be feeling pretty hot about ourselves at that point in time.
- 50:12SPEAKER_04: Um, so I I think I think we handle the knights in the inaugural game, you know, sign sealed and delivered.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: But I don't think it's gonna be a blowout, but I think it's be like a two touchdown difference or the or ordeal.
- 50:23SPEAKER_06: Fair.
- 50:24SPEAKER_06: I think after the absolute ass beating, we're gonna give the Jayhawks, we are going to ride that momentum and beat the Knights of Central Florida and uh not beat the shit out of them.
- 50:35SPEAKER_06: Not beat the shit out of them, but beat them, beat them good.
- 50:39SPEAKER_06: 14, you know, 21, potentially something somewhere in that range.
- 50:44SPEAKER_06: I think we're gonna beat the Knights.
- 50:45SPEAKER_06: I don't know if they're gonna be as good as some people think they are, because I I have a lot of people like in social media world or college football world that are saying that UCF is gonna be the kind of dark horse Big 12 team this year.
- 50:59SPEAKER_06: I just don't believe that.
- 51:00SPEAKER_04: No, neither do I.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I think I think that's I think they're gonna come in and maybe shock people with like uh a seven or eight win season, which would be phenomenal.
- 51:09SPEAKER_04: It would be it'd be great.
- 51:10SPEAKER_06: That's a great first year.
- 51:11SPEAKER_04: Oh, for sure, in the coming up to the B5 level.
- 51:14SPEAKER_04: I think that's a possibility, but I think it's more like six and six in their cards.
- 51:17SPEAKER_04: I just I think the transition into especially with the Big 12, the way the way it's built right now, like maybe in a weaker iteration of the Big 12, but not this Big 12.
- 51:25SPEAKER_04: This Big 12 is is pretty meaty, top to bottom.
- 51:29SPEAKER_04: I think they're gonna have some issues.
- 51:30SPEAKER_04: And I I think like like I think the Gus Bus is gonna be a great team going forward in the Big 12, consistently bull eligible.
- 51:37SPEAKER_04: But uh, I think this year getting bull eligible is a dub for them.
- 51:40SPEAKER_04: So I don't think they're they're anything to really be threatened by.
- 51:44SPEAKER_06: All right, we stand here.
- 51:48SPEAKER_06: Nine and two, Texas Tech going into the final game of the year.
- 51:55SPEAKER_06: Austin, Texas, Black Friday, University of Texas, versus Texas Tech.
- 52:03SPEAKER_06: What do you think is going to happen?
- 52:07SPEAKER_06: You know what?
- 52:09SPEAKER_04: Screw this prediction I had.
- 52:11SPEAKER_04: I had us losing this game.
- 52:14SPEAKER_04: But you know what?
- 52:16SPEAKER_04: After further consideration, there's no way we lose this game.
- 52:20SPEAKER_04: This this is the biggest game in Texas Tech history in at least a decade.
- 52:25SPEAKER_04: This is gonna be possibly one of the biggest Big 12 games in the history of the entire conference, and I think all eyes in the entire nation are gonna be on this game that night.
- 52:37SPEAKER_04: I think Joey McGuire melts the paint off of the locker room in Austin, and I think the UT Longhorns are gonna be feeling pretty cocky about themselves and just won't be prepared for us to pop up, punch them in the nose, and escape Austin on a field goal.
- 52:55SPEAKER_04: Hook it, we're 10 and 2 for the first time, and it's I I I couldn't tell you in the regular season, and we're going to the Big 12 championship.
- 53:04SPEAKER_04: Let's go, let's do it.
- 53:06SPEAKER_04: We beat, we upset the Texas Longhorns.
- 53:09SPEAKER_06: I love it.
- 53:10SPEAKER_06: Obviously, I love it.
- 53:13SPEAKER_06: I said this on the bear dan, I'm gonna say it now.
- 53:15SPEAKER_06: The only way that Texas Tech loses this game is if Joey McGuire physically implodes his players' heads, and there's a massive just hospital scene, blood everywhere, disgusting nightmare.
- 53:34SPEAKER_06: It's a massacre in that water room with the pregame speech.
- 53:41SPEAKER_06: That's the only way that we don't win this game.
- 53:45SPEAKER_06: I'm going to be here.
- 53:47SPEAKER_06: I'm going to be there.
- 53:49SPEAKER_06: I might potentially be there.
- 53:51SPEAKER_06: I would love it if you were.
- 53:53SPEAKER_06: Come join us, please.
- 53:55SPEAKER_06: Because we spent way too much money on these scenes, and we are ready to freaking go 30 rows up from the field to watch Texas Tech beat Texas for the last time in a long, long time.
- 54:09SPEAKER_06: So this is a dub for the Red Raiders.
- 54:14SPEAKER_04: Let's go, man.
- 54:16SPEAKER_04: Sending UT out on the boot with uh Lucy to Texas Tech uh in their big 12 season Big 12 iteration, dude.
- 54:23SPEAKER_04: My god, would that be magnificent?
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: And the the the the long horn salty tears falling from the sky would be delicious, man.
- 54:30SPEAKER_04: And it would just be monumental for the program as a whole to leave uh to kick UT and OU out like this because we're going out on top.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: It's not like they're going out, oh goodness for big dogs, you know, mosey on out.
- 54:42SPEAKER_04: Nah, dude.
- 54:43SPEAKER_04: It's we're here to stay and we're gonna get things done, man.
- 54:45SPEAKER_04: I'm really excited about the season.
- 54:46SPEAKER_04: Obviously, you and I have very high expectations as to how this is gonna roll out.
- 54:50SPEAKER_04: And I love hearing it, dude.
- 54:51SPEAKER_04: Being a Texas Tech football fan is really fun right now.
- 54:54SPEAKER_04: So I'm really excited about the way things go out from here.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: And dude, and it's and beyond even this season, the Big 12 is gonna be awesome.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: So the bit being a big 12, being a Texas Tech fan is pretty sick right now.
- 55:06SPEAKER_06: We're both at 10 and 2 right now.
- 55:09SPEAKER_06: That's like a spot in the Big 12 championship game, potentially.
- 55:12SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 55:13SPEAKER_06: Because I it depending, we both had both of our losses in the Big 12, so that may change things a little bit, but I think we're there with that record.
- 55:21SPEAKER_06: I mean, if we're 10 and 2, I think we're the Big 12 championship, which is no one's going undefeated.
- 55:27SPEAKER_06: This is it's a bold prediction.
- 55:29SPEAKER_06: It is, I think, from especially with how Texas Tech has been the last few years.
- 55:34SPEAKER_06: But I just think this program has so much momentum, man, and they're ready to take that next step.
- 55:41SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, man.
- 55:42SPEAKER_04: I I think this is the this is your opportunity to set yourself as a top quarter Big 12 team in the future.
- 55:48SPEAKER_04: Well, I think you and I have agreed that there's not going to be a kingpin in this conference going forward, but as long as we're in the consistently in the contender conversation, that's where you want to be for a program like Textech.
- 56:00SPEAKER_04: So I think we're in amazing shape to do so.
- 56:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 56:04SPEAKER_06: Totally agree.
- 56:05SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about ceiling and floor because we just went through the entire season prediction.
- 56:09SPEAKER_06: We both had 10 and 2.
- 56:10SPEAKER_06: That's a that's a great record.
- 56:13SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about ceiling and floor to kind of bring it down, be a little more realistic about things.
- 56:17SPEAKER_06: What's the floor of this team?
- 56:19SPEAKER_06: The floor of this team is seven and five.
- 56:22SPEAKER_04: What I did was I went through every game where I could be like, reasonably, you could lose this game and get made an L.
- 56:28SPEAKER_04: So I went seven and five.
- 56:29SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 56:30SPEAKER_06: I also did seven and five.
- 56:32SPEAKER_06: Um, I just don't think there's there's no way Joey drops more than five games and doesn't make a bowl game.
- 56:40SPEAKER_06: There's just with the seniority on this team, something disastrous will have to happen.
- 56:44SPEAKER_06: Like three season-ending injuries in week two that just absolutely derail your season and the momentum of it.
- 56:52SPEAKER_06: But even if that happens, I don't think a coach like Joey McGuire lets the team drop more than six or seven games.
- 57:01SPEAKER_06: I don't think that's possible with this year's team.
- 57:04SPEAKER_06: And I could be eating crow there, but I do think the floor of this team is seven and five.
- 57:08SPEAKER_04: I think it's I think it's like a heartbreaking seven and five that you're just losing nail-biting games where you just get unlucky, a miss field goal, a bad interception, a fumble kind of ordeal.
- 57:16SPEAKER_04: I don't think you're gonna go to the ball.
- 57:17SPEAKER_06: And with that at all, with that happening, you have to also drop that Kansas game or that UCF game or whatever that you don't expect to lose.
- 57:26SPEAKER_06: So it I mean, all things would have to go bad for the floor to happen.
- 57:29SPEAKER_06: And I I do think seven and five is the floor.
- 57:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
- 57:34SPEAKER_06: So ceiling.
- 57:36SPEAKER_06: We both went 10 and 2.
- 57:37SPEAKER_06: There's is there much higher of a ceiling for Texas Tech?
- 57:40SPEAKER_04: What do you think?
- 57:41SPEAKER_04: No, the ceiling is 11 and 1.
- 57:43SPEAKER_04: I I think I seriously think there's zero chance you make it to the Big 12 undefeated.
- 57:48SPEAKER_04: I just don't think Texas Tech is built for that yet.
- 57:51SPEAKER_04: Um, but I really, yeah, I really think you just would just be impossible to make it through completely undefeated.
- 57:58SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 58:01SPEAKER_05: No way, don't even.
- 58:02SPEAKER_05: I see your face, you stinky, son of a bee.
- 58:07SPEAKER_04: What what are you about to say right now?
- 58:09SPEAKER_06: The ceiling is 12-0.
- 58:11SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, dude.
- 58:13SPEAKER_06: The ceiling of this team is 12-0 with a close win against the Longhorns to end the year.
- 58:23SPEAKER_06: That's the ceiling.
- 58:25SPEAKER_06: I try I firmly believe that.
- 58:29SPEAKER_06: I firmly believe that.
- 58:30SPEAKER_05: I love it, I love it, I love it.
- 58:32SPEAKER_05: I'm glad we disagreed.
- 58:34SPEAKER_06: I just think this team, everything is coming together.
- 58:41SPEAKER_06: The amount of super seniors, the amount of talent, the coaching staff, the second year in the system.
- 58:50SPEAKER_06: I really do think that this team has a chance and has a good chance in every game they play this season.
- 58:58SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 58:59SPEAKER_06: And for me, when I'm looking at that, and I'm looking at the two toughest games, which are going to be Oregon and Texas, and saying you could win those games, and I'm predicting to win those games, you can be 12 and 0.
- 59:12SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 59:12SPEAKER_06: At as Texas Tech.
- 59:14SPEAKER_06: And I will, I will absolutely e crow if that does not happen, and we have a terrible season and we're six and six or five and seven or something like that.
- 59:25SPEAKER_06: But I just don't see a reality in which Texas Tech is not at least the seven and five floor, but I think they have a chance in every single game they play this year.
- 59:38SPEAKER_04: Brother, you are in the playoff.
- 59:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 59:42SPEAKER_04: You're I know you're you're going to the playoff with that record.
- 59:46SPEAKER_04: Even if you lose the Big 12 game, you could probably still go to the game.
- 59:48SPEAKER_04: That's what TC did.
- 59:49SPEAKER_04: That's what TC did.
- 59:50SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 59:50SPEAKER_06: They went 12-0 and then they lost in the lost Kansas State.
- 59:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 59:55SPEAKER_06: I don't know, man.
- 59:56SPEAKER_06: I think I don't know, man.
- 59:58SPEAKER_06: I'm high on life right now.
- 59:59SPEAKER_06: 12 and 0 is the ceiling, baby.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_04: I love it, dude.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_04: So it seems like this this might this is probably our most optimistic episode of all time.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_04: Like whenever we're breaking it down of uh the season here.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_06: I'm ready.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_06: There's so much, there's so much going into this right now.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_06: Being game week, being that I've had now two whiskeys.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_06: I am so that Joey Maguire's a king.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_06: Joey McGuire is a king.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_06: That man rules.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_06: That man.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_06: That man rules.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_06: And we are going 10 and 2, if not better, this year.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_04: Hell yeah, man.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_04: Anything else you think to say on the football season before we get into the specifics next year against uh the bet, I mean next year, against the next game about the better pokes.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_06: No, no, I think that's it.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_06: I mean, you want to talk about you want to talk about MVPs for both predictions?
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, sure.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about offensive and defensive MVPs for going into next year.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_06: What we think is going to be the offensive and defensive.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_06: So let's start with offensive.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_04: All right, offensive MVP.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: Um, I went back and forth, but I really, I really think that Tyler Shuck's gonna go sicko mode.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_04: I really do.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_04: I I think I think I I think he makes it through the year without getting injured, you know.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_04: Papa bless.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: Please, please don't.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_04: And I think he goes nuts uh in every single game.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_04: I think he's gonna come in with a killer instinct, dude.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_04: I think this guy's gonna be after he upsets Oregon, I think he's just gonna be a monster for the rest of the year.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_04: He's just gonna be feeling real good and just going nuts.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_04: I know it's boring to say the quarterback, but I really like the way Tyler Shuck's gonna be uh you know, you know, doing his last year at Tech Stack.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_06: It's not boring.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_06: It's probably the most sane take.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_06: I mean, you talk about the quarterback on a really good team, that's usually the MVP of the team.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna be a little off script here.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_06: I think the MVP is gonna be the one under grad, or not undergrad, under underclassman that's gonna start for this team.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_06: And that's Jaran Bradley.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_06: I think he I don't think he's going to have a Michael Crabtree year.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_06: I don't think he's going to have this ridiculous, unbelievable year, but I do think he's going to be the most reliable weapon that we have on the wide receiver unit, and he is going to make some unreal plays this year where Tyler Shuck just says, you know what, throw it up to the 6'5 receiver and let him make a play.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_06: I think Duran Bradley's going to be that dude and he's going to make his mark this year as the offensive MVP.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_04: You think you think he's uh going to knock up that uh MVP spot and then go to the NFL?
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_06: It's tough to call.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_06: I I if he's riding high off that and he has this unbelievable year, yeah, he should go to the NFL because why not?
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_06: Why not get that first second round money?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_04: I I just I was asking that in the sense that you think his stock would be high enough for him to confidently go to the NFL rather than come back for another year.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_06: I think so.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_06: I I if he has the year that I think he's going to have, he probably should go to the NFL.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_06: All right, man.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_06: So how about you do defense first?
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_06: All right, you want me to go defense first?
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_06: I am going to side pier.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_06: I'm going to sorry, man.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_06: Fine, go first.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_06: Whatever.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_06: You want to meet you want me to take it first?
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_04: I'm going to take it first.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_04: So you know what?
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_04: No, please just do it.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_04: Just go.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_04: Continue.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_06: Cy Pierre is going to be your defensive MVP because he is moving positions.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_06: He is going to be awesome at that position.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_06: He is the leader of the defense being there at the inside linebacker spot.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_06: I'm excited for him.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_06: I I am he is ready to take that next step into being an all-time Texas Tech linebacker.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_06: And it's it's going to be great to watch.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_04: Good pick.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_04: Are you ready for mine?
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_04: Ready for my defense MVP pick?
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_04: Tyree Wilson.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_04: Tyree Wilson is ready to make his NFL year, dude.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_04: He's gonna make it clear.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_04: No, my defensive MVP is Tim DeRooter.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_06: Okay, you can't say Tim DeRooter.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_06: Why not?
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_06: Because he's the coach.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_06: All right, fine.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_04: How about Austin SmackDamara?
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_05: Oh my god, he's the punter.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_05: I know, but he's gonna put it in the perfect spot every time, baby.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_06: Special teams.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_05: Well, so I can't, he's pretty special to me.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna give your defensive MVP.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be Jalen Hutchings.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_06: All right, that's gonna be your defensive MVP.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_06: SmackDamara and Tim DeRuder.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_06: You went off script, but I'm I respect it, I guess.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_06: No, if anything, like Jalen Hutchings is a safe bet.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_06: I mean, just your reliable nose tackle that's going to absolutely make his mark and finish off his senior year well.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_06: Him and Tony Bradford are awesome.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_06: I love those guys.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_06: Those will be my realistic picks.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_04: After Tinder and Austin SmackDamera.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_06: Sure.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_06: Get your special teams guy in the defensive conversation for everyone.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_06: Friend of the pod.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_06: Friend of the pod.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_06: Before we've talked a lot of Texas Tech.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_06: Let's kind of talk, let's go a little off base because I'm feeling good.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_06: We're having fun here.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_06: Playoff predictions for college football.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_04: Playoff predictions.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm just gonna go easy here.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_04: Alabama.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_04: Um that's not Alabama.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, no, I'm in Georgia.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_04: Pardon me.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_04: Okay, I was about to say that's yeah, you're right.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_04: No, I'll go Georgia.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_04: I think Georgia's the new Alabama there.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_04: I mean, hot take.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_04: Uh, I mean, that's not really a hot take.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: Um, probably probably Michigan.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: You know, Michigan's looking riding high right now, and they they look like they're gonna, you know, run it back.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_04: Um, additionally, I don't think any Big 12 team will make it.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_04: Uh, I just think we're too cannibalistic.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_04: I think there's room for USC to go.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna throw a USC in there.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_04: Um, possibly.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_04: And because I think they're gonna they're probably gonna go big on their last Pac-12 run.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_04: And lastly, let's go.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_04: Um lastly, let's go Alabama.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_04: I have some SEC bullshit two team in there.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: I think I think it's actually a pretty safe run there.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_06: That's fair.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_06: I also think there's gonna be some SEC bullshit two team Georgia.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_06: I have number one.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_06: I think they're gonna sweep their way through.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_06: They have the easiest schedule in the world, and then they go and beat another team that I have in the playoff in the championship.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_06: So Georgia, one seed.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_06: I have Ohio State as my two seed.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_06: I don't this is mostly because of CJ Stroud.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_06: And I'm sorry to the Texans fans.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_06: I don't think CJ Stroud is just that fantastic of a quarterback.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_06: And I think Ohio State had a lot of other stuff that made that team good last year, but still not the top of the top.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_06: I know there's questions at the QB position this year, but no, I think Ohio State gets it done.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_06: They get in the playoff this year.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_06: I think LSU is your three seed.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_06: Overall.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_06: That team's good.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_06: That team's good.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_06: I I like I like their quarterback.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_06: Uh Jaden Daniels is his name.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_06: It's not Jalen Daniels, it's Jaden Daniels.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_06: Really good player.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_06: LSU obviously always has talent, unreal talent.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_06: Second year, Brian Kelly.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_06: I think it's gonna be good.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_06: I think Family.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_06: Family.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_06: I think they're gonna have a good, they're gonna have a good year.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_06: Um, so Georgia, Ohio State, LSU, and I think Clemson is gonna take that last.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_04: Wow, Clemson, really.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_04: You think you think the ACC is gonna put somebody in?
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_06: The hiring of Garrett Riley was huge for them.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_06: I think it's gonna help.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_06: They're gonna help their offense so much.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_06: They have a great quarterback there, five-star, I think, is Klubenick or something like that is his name.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_06: He was the guy who probably should have played over Ungulay last year.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_06: And I am I'm pretty high on Clemson.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_06: I think a lot of people are high on Florida State, but I think Clemson's gonna get it done in the AC.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_04: I I I like your picks more than mine.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_04: Um, I think my USC and Alabama are a little hot taky.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_04: Now that you know I'm kind of dissecting it in my brain.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_06: Um I mean, I not really.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_06: I mean, USC still plays all the PAC teams.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_04: So yeah, Packs looking solid.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_04: And I think obviously I think Lincoln Riley's obviously a very fantastic coach, especially offensively.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, has Heisman quarterback there.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_04: So I think it could, I think it absolutely happened as well.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_04: So you're right, you know, you know, I guess mine's not very hot taky at the end of the day.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, I just know that I'm not gonna have Texas there, no matter what.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_06: Even if Texas is very good this year, it's not gonna be Texas, they're not gonna do it.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_06: If anything, it's gonna Oklahoma's gonna sneak their way because they have such an easy freaking schedule.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_04: I I still I I I don't think the Oklahoma's even gonna be in the Big 12 championship.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_06: Probably not, probably not.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_06: But hey, moving on.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_06: Okay college football.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_06: Brett Yormark said some things.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_06: Talking to Matt.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_06: He said some things at the latest Texas Tech luncheon.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_06: It was great having him there.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_06: It pissed off a lot of people, it got some headlines.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_06: What do you think about Brett Yormark's comments at the Texas Tech Luncheon?
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_04: I, a very objective neutral fan, thought they were good comments.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_04: I thought they were very, very nice comments.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_04: Um, nah, but really though, um, I can I just say that um UT fans are acting like putulent children about this.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_04: Yep, they are acting like utter crybabies.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_04: It the the reaction from this, like the reasonable reaction to this is so beyond what it should be.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_04: It's ludicrous.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_04: You know, it's they I've never seen a fan base get so tied up over something that they absolutely shouldn't have.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_04: They should have been able to just laugh it off, be like, that's that makes sense.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_04: I get it.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_04: Like, you can't, I don't know how they can't just laugh it off.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_04: I and I they're they they're they're it's not so much of a oh, let's go, tech, we're gonna get you this year.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_04: It's it's like legit anger, it's like legit toxic vitriol.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_04: Like, I think like like they feel evil feelings towards him right now and Texas Tech because of it.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_04: And I think it's completely unreasonable.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_04: I think it was just a fun sports comment, and that's all it was.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_04: He was just and obviously he knows how to play the media, but I don't know if even he thought it was gonna get the sort of blowback it did.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_04: It was just a fun off-the-cuff comment.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_06: Horns fan 29 said should lose his job immediately.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_06: You can't be a commissioner of a conference and openly cheer for or against your current members, especially all caps, one of the ones in parentheses, the only one that absolutely owns the conference.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_06: That was Horns fan 29.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_06: Uh Steve H said, someone sure is bitter and unprofessional, keep adding mid-majors, still can't replace the most dominant team in the Big 12, and the two most profitable money drivers of the Big 12 are leaving.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_06: Big 12, now the home of the 45k seat stadiums at underscore underscore buster underscore underscore at governor abbot, do something about this.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_06: I like how that became a meme immediately.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_06: That one ended me when I saw that tweet.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_06: I was like, this is the best thing.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_04: If he was trolling, that's a hilarious response to just joke around about.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_04: But I you can't help but think it's it's serious.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_06: The the horns fans are hilarious.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_06: They're in the there's obviously there's obviously good and bad horns fans.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_06: There's good and bad every fans that are gonna be, you know, good on a situation like this and bad on a situation like this.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_06: There's just there's no more of a victim mentality to do that.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_06: Dude, for real.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_04: That that I think I think I think that's probably where it really sits on the most.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_04: There's just so much of a victim mentality going on right now.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_04: Um, where you know, you know, I keep saying if you're a reasonable fan, you just have fun with it, kind of laugh it off.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, because and it's just I don't understand how people can't wrap their heads around the guy is just poking fun at the team that nearly killed the conference.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_04: You know, they're leaving.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_04: He has no he he has no allegiance to that team anymore.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_04: Why would he, besides just fulfilling professional duties until he left they leave, what does he need to do for them?
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_04: Kiss their feet?
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_04: That's what Bowlesby did for years.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_04: And look, look at where this landed us.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_04: I mean, come on, man.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_04: There he's just having fun, and that's his whole shtick.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_04: Are you shocked by this?
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_04: You shouldn't be.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_04: Come on, man.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_04: I think I think I think they just there's so many fans out there that just want to reason to be mad, and this is just the perfect opportunity to be to be mad.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_06: So now get ready, get prepared for every bad call or every missed call or everything like that.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, blatant bias.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_06: This is the worst thing in the world.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_06: Texas is getting screwed, Oklahoma's getting screwed.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_06: It's just like if you realistically think that Brett Yormark is going to his referee crew at the Big 12 that he probably never talks to in his entire life, that hey, you got this Texas game coming up.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_06: I want you to absolutely screw them, and I want you to call targeting on three of their players minimum, or you're fired, bozo.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_06: You think he's doing that?
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_06: You think he's doing you think he's telling them to intentionally not call holding calls or not call this or not call that so Texas can lose?
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_06: You are ridiculous, you are out of your mind if you think that is going on.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_05: I for one hope there is, but just kidding.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_04: No way, dude.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_04: Exactly, man.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_04: It's just it's just these are there's just certain people, there's certain accounts on Twitter and just fans in general, just people in general, that they'll find a reason to be upset and just latch on to it, you know, and take something way too seriously, like like college sports, and be have an unhealthy relationship with it.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_04: And it's just like the perfect opportunity to do that.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_04: I think it's just a lot of insecurities are coming out.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_06: You would think some of these people thought Brett Yormark went up to their daughter and punched her in the face.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_04: For real, man.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_04: It's it's absurd, dude.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_04: And I I it what really pisses me off is all this uh like uh smooching the OU fans and UT fans are doing.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_04: Like I thought y'all are supposed to hate each other, you know.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_04: There's a lot of making out going on right now, and I hate it.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_04: It's yeah, it's like I've I've said this, I've said this before, and I'll say it again.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_04: I legitimately, you know, yes, UT and OU are rivals on the field and all that, but I legitimately think UT hates Tex Tech more than OU, like at the end of the day, like dislikes us more at the end of the day, and this just really ramps it up, yeah.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_06: With today's landscape, of course, you guys are going over holding hands over to the SEC together, and y'all are buddy buddy this year.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_06: I mean, you're gonna hate each other during Red River rivalry week, but I mean, you're not gonna you're not gonna hate the rest of the year, you're gonna hope yeah.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_06: I've seen tweets that have said Oklahoma.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_06: I hope Oklahoma wins every game.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_06: I hope Texas wins every game from both sides.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_06: It's oh my god, it's ridiculous.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_06: You should never root for your rival, you idiot.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's disgusting.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_04: It really is.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_06: It's gross, it's gross, but I love the comments.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_06: Uh non my non-biased take.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_06: I absolutely loved what Brett Yormark said at the Red Raider luncheon.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_04: On on the weeky, weekly, we love Brett Yormark podcast.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_04: We approve of these comments.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_06: We approve.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_06: Way to go, Brett.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_06: Keep it up.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_04: All right, good stuff, Brett.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_06: Volleyball hot start, three and oh the year.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_06: Three and oh Notre Dame.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_04: How about it?
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, dude.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_04: Volleyball's on the upswing, man.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_04: They have been for the a few years.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_04: Uh Greystone's doing a great job, you know.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_04: And it obviously beating a name like Notre Dame is always feels good.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_04: And I hope we're getting some confidence going into the season here.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_04: So a great start for the ladies, uh, both volleyball and soccer.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_04: They're both undefeated right now.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_04: So uh just a great way to roll into the season here, and I hope it keeps going.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_06: Um, what else you got before we go to Song of the Week?
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_04: That sense.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_04: That's it, man.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, I don't think we need to talk about realignment anymore.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_06: No, no, no, no.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_06: We're good.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_06: We're okay on if it if it moves into Tuesday's episode, we'll talk about it then.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_06: But um Song of the Week.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_06: Go ahead, finish Song of the Week, man.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna do a band that I haven't done in a while.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_04: Um, actually, I kind of did them last week.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_06: But haven't done it in a while, but except last week.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_04: They were no the week before.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_04: They were featured, it's different.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm gonna go with a uh a summer jam now that the summer's coming to the close, school started back up um and in college football's back.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_04: I just kind of had this on repeat for a while.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go with uh Flatland Calvary, Recum Tech, very proud Red Raider band.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_04: Um, last American Summer.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_04: It's one of those classic country songs where you're just reminiscing on the on the summers of your past, and I really enjoy this one.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_04: It's got a great beat, a really catchy hook to the song that you just have to sit there and whistle to.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, last American Summer, Flatland Calgary.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_06: Here I am, bred white, and we fall in under the last American summer.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_06: Very nice.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_06: Love it.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna bring the mood down a little bit.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_06: Okay, very good.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_06: I listen, I I've I've been late to the party on Zach Bryan.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_06: Been very late.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_06: I he's good, man.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_06: He's really good.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_06: It like the songwriting is elite, it's fantastic.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_06: Um, I get it.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_06: I now understand it.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_06: His latest album just dropped pretty recently.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_06: I'm doing a song off that album.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_06: It's called Summertime's Close.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_06: Very sad song.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_06: Sad song, but it is so well written, and it just like immediately when I listen to when I listen to certain artists, I go and I put the lyric thing on Apple Music, and so it shows me all the lyrics, yeah.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_06: So you so you understand kind of what they're saying.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_06: And it's just like, man, that hit me right in the freaking chest, dude.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_06: So that's a it's a great song.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_06: Summertime's close.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_06: The entire album is really good, so go listen to it.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_03: Your other lakes crashing down on the eastern coast when the day's cooling off and the summertime's close.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_04: Great pick, man.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think he really is something special.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_04: He's really brought that red dirt acousticky songwriter sound into the mainstream, and I think that's fantastic.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_04: Really bring that Texas Oklahoma sounding country music to the to the forefront.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, man, I have to dig into this album.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_04: I haven't yet.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_04: I listened to the new turnpike album, it's good, it's very low-key compared to the rest of them, and I'm excited to hear this one too.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_04: He even has a Casey song featured on there.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_06: He does, he does.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_06: He's also he he got the Lumineers, I believe, on one song, and it actually works really well.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_06: I like Lumineers.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it really works.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_06: Um, no, it's like um the Drew Kennedy album, Marathon.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, marathon, yeah.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_06: Campfire.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_06: It's like you sit out on a campfire, this is what you think with this Zach Bryant album.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_06: Love that.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's it's really good, really fun, easy listening.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, make sure it gets you in your feels too a little bit.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_04: So two summer songs.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_04: Yours was what summertime clothes, mine was last American summer.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_06: So beautiful.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_06: Summer that it's like we script this or something.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_04: We don't.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_04: We don't we literally don't.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_06: We don't.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_06: If you can't hear that, I don't know what to tell you.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but if you think we type this up and sound this stupid, like typed up, then I don't know what to tell you.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_04: I don't know what to tell you, bro.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_06: All right, let's end it off.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_06: Game week.
