- 0:02Thank you all so much for joining another episode of Celeste the therapist podcast.
- 0:05My name is Celeste. I'm a therapist from Boston If you've never been into
- 0:09my podcast before I want to say thank you so much for coming
- 0:12through I appreciate you what I do on this podcast is
- 0:16I talk about things that we're going through and I I Work on
- 0:19helping you think about ways to deal with them with really
- 0:23practical steps. I'm a very practical person and
- 0:26today we're talking about getting grounded in the midst of
- 0:29chaos and Uh, you know some so I
- 0:33am a real therapist for people that's never been here before, you know People because
- 0:36my tagline is celeste a therapist and people say are you really a therapist? I'm really a
- 0:40therapist And i've been a therapist uh
- 0:43for Well, I've been in the mental health field for
- 0:47over 20 years and I've been a therapist since for
- 0:5015 years. And it's so interesting. So
- 0:55over the last 15 years, we've gone through so many things. And
- 0:58I think about the pandemic, I think about all
- 1:03the chaos during the pandemic, and I think about 2025, the
- 1:08new president that we have, and just the chaos. And
- 1:11sometimes I'll be like, dang, yo, Celeste, how you doing it?
- 1:16Because since the pandemic in
- 1:202020, I feel like that's the first time where I feel like the same thing
- 1:23I'm walking people through is the same thing I'm going through. And also, there's
- 1:28this collective thing that's taking place around the
- 1:32country around the world. And, um, I am walking
- 1:36people through it as I'm working on walking myself through
- 1:39it. It's very interesting. Um, and so as
- 1:43I have the privilege to, uh, record
- 1:47this podcast, if you're listening to me on audio, I'm also on YouTube. I
- 1:51have the privilege of recording this. I, um, I'm grateful for
- 1:54the people that continue to follow me and press play and
- 1:57listen to the podcast. and people
- 2:01that let me know how much this podcast has helped them. The
- 2:05things that I do, I wanna share it with you because they really helped me.
- 2:08And so that's why today I wanna talk about how to get grounded in the
- 2:12middle of chaos. And I'm just gonna give you these 10 things to
- 2:15think about. I'm gonna share my screen just
- 2:18so you can see it visually, but
- 2:22I'm pretty much gonna talk about it. I
- 2:25really wanna help you find your center. Before I go through the 10 things that
- 2:30I wanna share with you that I want you to work on doing, and literally
- 2:33everything that I'm talking about, it doesn't cost money. I'm so
- 2:37big on decolonize what mental health looks
- 2:40like. This podcast is free. The things I'm gonna talk about
- 2:44you doing is free. But I talk about
- 2:48being grounded a lot, and I really wanna start with the definition of
- 2:51what grounded means. So being grounded, it
- 2:55generally means being present, being aware, and connected
- 2:58to your current reality with a sense of stability and
- 3:01balance. It implies being in touch with your emotions, thoughts,
- 3:05physical sensations, and having a strong connection to
- 3:08the moment. In a figurative sense, it
- 3:12also suggests being sensible, reasonable, and having a practical outlook
- 3:16on life. And so when you
- 3:20think about the definition Being grounded doesn't mean life is
- 3:23perfect. Being grounded doesn't mean that everything goes the way you
- 3:27want it to go. Being grounded allows you to deal
- 3:30with the things that are happening in life. One
- 3:33of the things people say is that I'm very consistent in
- 3:37my presence, right? Regardless of what's going on,
- 3:40I'm going to show up as who I am. not
- 3:44allow you to take me out of character, not allow myself, even on social
- 3:47media, there are people that I've been following for a while, and
- 3:51when they say something that I struggle with seeing, I
- 3:55don't go to war in comments, I just unfollow. And
- 3:59that's me protecting my peace. Looking at the statement,
- 4:03is it annoying? Yes, but they have a right to feel how they feel about
- 4:07certain subjects, but I don't have, I choose not
- 4:10to be a part of That a lot of times we don't even recognize That
- 4:15the way that we're feeling is because we're we're making a
- 4:18choice to engage in certain chaotic things that we are doing
- 4:22Um, and so when you think about being grounded because I talk
- 4:25about like i'm very grounded I say that a lot, but I recognize I
- 4:29haven't talked about the definition when I talk about being
- 4:32grounded That means i'm very aware of what's going on my physical body
- 4:36and how I feel Um side note like i've been eating
- 4:40really really clean lately in this period cycle.
- 4:44Over the last few years, my cycle, I have really
- 4:47less cramps. It's not as heavy and bad as
- 4:51it was before. This is such a side note. But
- 4:54if you listen to the podcast, you know I'm always gonna do a quick side note. This
- 4:58cycle that I had, I've been really clean lately. I've been walking
- 5:02more. I've been really eating clean, drinking water. And
- 5:05I had absolutely no cramps. And it's so
- 5:09funny because I've seen, in my mind, I was thinking
- 5:12about like, wow, this cycle's really good. And I'm
- 5:16so present and grounded, I recognize I've been eating clean.
- 5:21And I'm like, wow, what you put in your body really does affect your body.
- 5:24It's something I don't say, even I just watched Dr. Holistic, I
- 5:28love him, he's a black uh he's black doctor
- 5:31on instagram and youtube and he struggled
- 5:35with high blood pressure and stuff all his life he changed his eating habits started
- 5:39helping other patients changed theirs the hospital didn't like it so
- 5:42he went out on his own the hospital wanted him to stick to the script But
- 5:46he was saying how when I eat, I poop. And
- 5:50the person he was talking to was like, wow, I love that for you. And
- 5:53he said, this is what it's supposed to be all the time. And
- 5:57so we don't even realize, I talk about the mind and how we hold
- 6:01on to pain. And we literally hold on to so much
- 6:04crap in us because we haven't been taught. We
- 6:09haven't been taught that it's not supposed to be that way. So we get
- 6:13used to just dealing with crap in our, literally
- 6:16in us. And we get used to dealing with
- 6:20our mind, feeling like crap, literally. So I,
- 6:23you know, there's a lot of chaos happening in the world. And
- 6:27I can't solve all the problems, right?
- 6:30I can only do what I can do. I don't have control over
- 6:34what's going on and it breaks my heart. A lot of the things that I
- 6:37see, like it really, I really struggle with seeing some of the things
- 6:40I see, like my heart breaks and I don't understand
- 6:44why. I'm not a religious person, but I'm a very
- 6:47spiritual person. And I always tell myself, lean
- 6:51not on your own understanding when these things come up, because I don't understand it.
- 6:54Even before now, in general, as the work that I do, the stories that I
- 6:58hear, that make no sense to me. I
- 7:02lean not on my own understanding. That's literally what
- 7:05I say to myself when those things are happening. So
- 7:10let me help you with some practical ways to work on
- 7:14your mental health and staying grounded in the middle of chaos.
- 7:19So if you are somebody that is struggling with that, this
- 7:24is gonna be a great episode for you to kinda
- 7:28listen to and get your mind right. First
- 7:32is professional support. Nothing wrong with
- 7:36seeking out professional support, therapist, coach, right?
- 7:41Who else? Like a pastor, somebody
- 7:44that you trust that's
- 7:49a professional. I started with that
- 7:52because sometimes it's like, oh yeah, of course, like see
- 7:55a therapist, but also I recognize that a
- 7:59lot of people don't have access to therapy. may not have
- 8:02access to a coach. And so I
- 8:06don't want you to feel like, well, if I don't have a therapist, how
- 8:09can I work on getting grounded? But that is one of the things.
- 8:14The second thing I want you to think about is mindfulness and meditation.
- 8:19Mindfulness and meditation is something you
- 8:22can just practice every day. And I really want you to be practical about it.
- 8:25So when you wake up in the morning, before
- 8:29you grab your phone and check your email, before you
- 8:33go on social media, I really need you to be intentional about this
- 8:36process. It's literally how I start my day. Get
- 8:40up in the morning. stretch go use the bathroom and
- 8:44set your timer for five minutes right um you can
- 8:47even do like a meditation on youtube for five minutes
- 8:51but if you're not if you're not if you're not trying to do that right now that's
- 8:54okay but set your timer for five minutes and just breathe
- 8:58in and breathe out and just take time to Think
- 9:01about what you have going on today. If you feel like your mind's racing, that's
- 9:05okay. At least you understand that it's racing, right? But try
- 9:09to, if you are not somebody that is into pausing,
- 9:12like you haven't taken moments to pause, first
- 9:16thing in the morning, I like it first thing in the morning because you can set the tone. And
- 9:20I'm saying five minutes because I am trying to help you start
- 9:24with something small. I don't want you to set the goal to 20 or 30 minutes,
- 9:28something that you're not used to doing. But mindfulness does
- 9:31not have to be something that takes up a
- 9:34lot of time to start, right? It doesn't have to
- 9:39cost money, right? But taking time to
- 9:43just sit and breathe and be by yourself, right? If
- 9:46you wanna take it a step further, start thinking about
- 9:49what you have going on for the day, right? Taking time to
- 9:53breathe and think about, okay, I gotta do whatever it
- 9:56is you gotta do, right? Five minutes, starting with
- 9:59five minutes. You can always increase it,
- 10:03right? You can also add it for the nighttime before
- 10:06you go to bed, thinking about, how was my day? Another
- 10:10way you can practice a practical meditation practice is
- 10:13in the shower. In the shower, you
- 10:16are being still in the shower, the water's hitting you,
- 10:20you have the soap, you can touch your body, you can feel yourself,
- 10:24your feet is touching the ground. you can take
- 10:28that moment and just breathe, right? And just ask yourself, like,
- 10:31how am I really feeling? Some of you are so used to
- 10:34being the caregiver or the person that takes care of everyone that
- 10:38you don't even ask yourself, how am I feeling? So
- 10:41be comfortable with doing that for yourself, right? Because
- 10:45if anybody, it's one thing, like nobody's gonna come
- 10:48and save you. And I think a lot of times we don't recognize that
- 10:51we're doing so much for other people and we have nothing left for
- 10:55ourselves. and our system is in overdrive all
- 10:58the time. So those are some practical ways to
- 11:01think about practicing mindfulness in the morning. Start
- 11:05first thing in the morning before you go to bed, or you can even do
- 11:08it in the shower. I try to incorporate new things that
- 11:11you're doing with a routine that you already have. The
- 11:15second thing I want you to think about is nature. Being
- 11:19in nature is such a great tool for
- 11:24people to use. It's a natural resource. There's
- 11:27like some water, a little small pond that's not
- 11:31far from my house. Sometimes when I drive that way and I
- 11:35literally will take a deep breath and it feels so good. and
- 11:39then a breath out. Even just now, that breath I just took just now,
- 11:42if you can hear it and you're not watching, that
- 11:46felt so good. It felt like I was resetting, right? When I started talking
- 11:49about the chaos in the world, I felt like sad, like my
- 11:53chest tightened up a little bit because I just started thinking about some things recently
- 11:58that I've been made aware of and it just made me feel sad. And
- 12:02then I just breathed and it felt really good. But
- 12:05spending time, Spending some time outdoors and
- 12:09just sitting still in nature can be really helpful. I happen to
- 12:12have some hiking trails near my house, but even if you don't have
- 12:16hiking trails, walk out in front of your door and
- 12:19get some sun. Go for a small walk. Even
- 12:23if you don't feel like it, as I'm talking about these things to
- 12:26do, what I need you not to say to yourself is
- 12:29like, oh, I didn't feel like doing it today. I don't want you to do that. You're
- 12:33never going to feel like doing something that's good for you if you're not
- 12:36used to doing it. I'm going to say that again for the people in the back. If
- 12:40you're not used to doing something healthy, it's
- 12:43not gonna feel good It's not gonna feel like something you want and
- 12:47I always give this example But there was a time where after
- 12:51I worked out I would go to Burger King. So give me a whopper That was like my favorite
- 12:54meal and I'm not knocking whoppers But that's crazy work
- 12:57to be going to the gym and then go to Burger King's after like make it
- 13:01make sense to us and when I learned that um,
- 13:05I was doing it all backwards and I went
- 13:08and got a bunch of greens, and I tell this story a lot, and
- 13:11I was like, yes, I'm on this healthy journey, and it took time for me
- 13:16to figure out how to make this stuff. The stuff that I brought went
- 13:21bad. Even when I tried it, it tastes disgusting. I didn't
- 13:24know what I was doing, so I said, all right, Celeste, let's just start with breakfast. I
- 13:27started making smoothies for breakfast, and over time, my
- 13:31taste palette started to change. and it
- 13:34tasted really well, it tasted so good. So from breakfast to
- 13:37lunch to dinner, that was, my daughter's 12, so that was about maybe
- 13:4311, 10 years ago. Today, like, I just, I can't do fast food. But
- 13:47like, give me some fresh greens, some kale, some couscous, like,
- 13:52you know, I'm on it. I love me some fresh food. Before, I just
- 13:56didn't realize how much that I,
- 14:00I needed it and because it was something that
- 14:03was foreign to me, I rejected it, right?
- 14:07So even like relationships, side note, like some
- 14:10people who's been through a lot of hard things and hard relationships, you'll
- 14:14tell yourself you want a healthy relationship, but then when that healthy person
- 14:18presents itself, you don't realize you start self-sabotaging. I
- 14:22literally did that. You would self-sabotage and
- 14:25not realize it, but there's this rejection that takes place
- 14:29because you're not used to chaos. You're not used to all the, I
- 14:32mean, you're used to chaos. You're used to trauma. So if none of
- 14:35that's happening, it's kind of scary. Even with your individual
- 14:39self, we're talking about getting grounded in chaos. I'm not getting off topic, but
- 14:43even with your individual self, when you start therapy, when you start
- 14:46working on yourself, It feels so hard. There's this rejection that
- 14:50takes place within your body. It's like, Celeste, wait, hold on for a second.
- 14:53What are we doing? The reason why that's happening is because
- 14:57you've been so used to living a certain way and your system's gotten
- 15:00so used to living a certain way that doing the opposite feels really
- 15:04scary. So one thing I need you to take
- 15:07out your vocabulary is I don't feel like it, right? Because feelings
- 15:11change, they waver. There's times where I want something sweet real
- 15:15quick, you know what I'm saying? I feel like it runs in my family after I eat,
- 15:18I need something sweet. And I've been fighting that sweet thing
- 15:22because that's what I want all the time. and it's been working,
- 15:26but 10 minutes later, that feeling goes away.
- 15:29I'd be like, all right, Celeste, you don't need it. You don't need it. Drive past, you don't need that bakery. And
- 15:33then by the time I get home, I'm good. So feelings are gonna
- 15:36change. They're gonna waver. So I need you to not think about what
- 15:40it feels like. So being in nature can really create
- 15:43a calming effect over your life in
- 15:47the moment. We're talking about getting into the moment. It could be really helpful.
- 15:51Another great resource is journaling. So
- 15:55writing down how you feel, being able
- 15:58to express your emotions and getting it out on paper can be
- 16:01super therapeutic. I have a guided journal that I
- 16:05created, but you don't have to get the journal in order to do this. You
- 16:08can get a notebook from the dollar store. You can use your phone,
- 16:12notes on your phone. I always share, these are questions
- 16:16that I ask my kids at night during our check-in time, is how are you
- 16:19feeling? What went well today? What did you do to prepare for tomorrow?
- 16:23and what are you grateful for? My goal is
- 16:26to help them create systems for themselves and
- 16:30to learn how to be in the moment on a daily basis because
- 16:33there's so many things happening and it's so easy for us
- 16:36to get distracted and not recognize what's going on in our life. So
- 16:40journaling is another great tool. So that's
- 16:43the fourth one. The fifth one is physical activity. Please,
- 16:48let's not talk about what we don't feel like doing because I don't want to hear that. Feeling
- 16:53like doing it and doing it are two different things. We go to work
- 16:56and we don't feel like doing it because we got to
- 17:00get paid and we got to pay those bills. When it comes to physical
- 17:03activity, I hear it a lot. I don't feel like it. Every
- 17:06day I do something physical, whether it's walking, going to the
- 17:10gym, doing something at my house. A
- 17:14lot of times, more times than not, I don't feel like doing
- 17:17it. But how is it, Celeste, that you're able to do
- 17:21it? Sometimes it's because I start first thing in the morning, but everybody doesn't have
- 17:24that luxury. But the main reason why I'm
- 17:27able to do things beyond what I feel like Especially with
- 17:31the physical activity because this is something that I really try to encourage My
- 17:35people to do because with your mental status what you feed
- 17:38your body Moving your body and sleep those
- 17:42three things. Let's forget about the chaos that's happening in the world feeding
- 17:46your body nutritious food moving your body and sleeping can
- 17:50affect your mental status and I just told you
- 17:54about how I don't have the same cramps anymore because
- 17:57of how clean I've been eating. So I want you to
- 18:00be mindful of the physical activity that you're doing. And
- 18:05if you don't do it, I need you to do it. And if
- 18:08you can focus on the reward after, how
- 18:12many times, I'm sure you could think how many times you have found
- 18:15yourself not feeling like going for a walk or
- 18:18working out. And afterwards you'd be like, dang, that felt good, man. I don't
- 18:22know why I don't do that on a regular basis. And for me,
- 18:26I get myself up, I do it, and
- 18:29I also know I'm going to feel good after. I've
- 18:32been doing it for so long that I know it. So it's easy for me to envision myself
- 18:37across the finish line. So if you haven't been
- 18:41used to doing any physical activity and you want to start, don't set
- 18:44the bar too high because I don't want you to psych yourself up and then feel
- 18:48bad that it can't happen as quickly as you want it to happen. But
- 18:52what I want you to do is try 15 minutes, right? Go outside, go
- 18:56for a 15 minute walk, even if it's up and down your street.
- 18:59If you're not ready to take that step outside, up and down your
- 19:03stairs, around your house. Be mindful of
- 19:07the physical activity that you're doing and make sure you are trying
- 19:12to do it because it really helps. There's something about
- 19:15moving things out of us, the toxins out of
- 19:19us, even when we're sick, You know how if peace
- 19:22sometimes people in the hospital try to get them to walk around and move a little bit before
- 19:25they leave Because they they recognize there's something powerful about
- 19:29moving your body like physically and mentally There's these endorphins that
- 19:32go off these happy happy things that happen in
- 19:35our system Um, so I want you to think about physical activity
- 19:39and it doesn't have to be the gym. It could be dancing It could
- 19:43be some yoga going go on youtube and type in yoga Go
- 19:47on youtube and and put a dance. I'd be i'd be um plugging youtube
- 19:50because it's free, you know They'd be trying to get me to get those ads. I still I
- 19:54mean get the um package. I still haven't gotten the package but Put
- 19:58some music on and just start dancing. We're decolonizing what
- 20:02what mental health looks like. We're decolonizing physical activity You
- 20:05don't need a nice. Um gym suit to move your
- 20:08body. You don't need um a peloton to move
- 20:12your body, you know Like, those things are nice,
- 20:16right? A nice gym suit, a nice Peloton is nice, but if
- 20:19you ain't got it, I don't want you to stop and tell yourself, well, when I
- 20:22get the Peloton, I'll do it. When my gym clothes come in, I'll do it. No,
- 20:26start moving your body now. So that's the fifth thing. And
- 20:29these are in no order. All of these things matter, right?
- 20:33And I want you to think about, like, what can I start today if none of them you've
- 20:36been doing? This next one is important, please. Like, digital
- 20:40detox. please do me
- 20:43a favor and check out how much screen time
- 20:47on your phone that you've been utilizing social media, that
- 20:51you've been playing games, because it's not just social media, games are
- 20:54addictive. And I get it, it's a nice way to distract,
- 20:58right? You're watching funny stuff. Sometimes, unfortunately,
- 21:02you're seeing trauma and that trauma can get addictive where you're watching
- 21:06and looking and reading the comments and going back and forth with people.
- 21:10A digital detox can be so therapeutic. I
- 21:14have screen time on my phone. Every
- 21:1815 minutes, if I'm on Instagram, it goes off and I'd be like, oh, it's
- 21:22been 15 minutes. I'm very intentional about
- 21:25how much I consume. Because I don't want what
- 21:28I'm consuming to consume me. I'm gonna say that again for the people in the back
- 21:32I am very intentional about what I consume Because I
- 21:36don't want the negative things that I'm consuming to consume me
- 21:40And so I'm constantly in engulfing myself in
- 21:43positivity in the mornings, you know my kids the house here
- 21:46they hear the motivational video going off as I'm working out and I really don't
- 21:50play about my mind because I recognize how fragile it is
- 21:54Especially in these chaotic times and I want to make sure that
- 21:57I'm feeding it with something healthy the things that I listen to
- 22:00I know what it is like these are things where I talk
- 22:04about but hearing it said to me and Letting it
- 22:07emerge in my mind is so powerful The
- 22:13next thing that we're talking about is a gratitude practice
- 22:16so we have four more Creating a
- 22:19gratitude practice can be extremely helpful
- 22:24when you are making time to think about what you're grateful for.
- 22:29it's hard for your mind to focus on what you don't have, right?
- 22:33If we're focusing on what we don't have, then we're
- 22:36never going to see what we have. We're never going to see the possibilities of
- 22:39what's possible. And it's so easy to go into
- 22:43this sucks and that's happening. You know, my
- 22:46friend, I said this before, but she said, you always know how to make You
- 22:50always know how to see the positive in things and it's not because I
- 22:55am naive to the reality of life. I just told you life is hard.
- 22:58I've been dealing with a lot of hard things, helping people walk through a
- 23:01lot of hard times. It's very hard. So
- 23:05it's not that I don't understand life is hard. Life is very hard.
- 23:10But I choose not to allow the hard things to consume me,
- 23:14right? I choose to look at the beauty in
- 23:17the struggle. I literally have a tattoo. that
- 23:21says it's beauty in the struggle. It's actually the first
- 23:26thing I got on my arm. J. Cole has a song. It's
- 23:30beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success. It's love
- 23:34yours. And I remember hearing
- 23:37that song and it really touched me. And I
- 23:41said, I'm going to put that on my arm so I can see it every day. It's beauty in the struggle.
- 23:4720 years ago, if you said this to me, that would make no sense. I
- 23:52had to work my way up to this mindset. I'm always going to share that because I
- 23:56can be a very positive person, but I
- 23:59don't want you to think that it's because my life has been so easy. I don't
- 24:02want you to think it's because, oh, well, it's easy for you because you
- 24:05have all these things, you have this and that. No, it's not the things that
- 24:09created where I am. It's my intentionality with
- 24:13my mindset that got me to this place. Cause there's people with way more
- 24:16things than me that are way more miserable than you, you
- 24:21know? So it's not the things that allow
- 24:24for my mindset to be what it is. Um, it's
- 24:28really the gratitude and I'm
- 24:31very intentional about thinking about those things and
- 24:35reframing. I wanted to go for an
- 24:38hour walk and I only had 40 minutes. And I remember saying, oh,
- 24:41it was only 40 minutes as I'm looking at my timer. And then immediately
- 24:45I was like, nah, Celeste, you did 40 minutes. It wasn't only 40 minutes,
- 24:48you did that. My voice is so powerful
- 24:52that it's hard for you to change it. There's nothing you
- 24:56can say to me that can change how I feel because the
- 24:59voice in my head that I have is going on 24 seven.
- 25:03So I'm not going to let you change up how I feel. So
- 25:07creating a gratitude practice, the questions I
- 25:11ask my kids, what are you grateful for? That's
- 25:15one of the questions that I ask them and I am clear about today.
- 25:18What are you grateful for today? It forces them to go back into their
- 25:21day and think about what happened today and how they're grateful for
- 25:25it. So creating a gratitude practice can be extremely,
- 25:29extremely helpful. Connecting
- 25:33with others is a great one. I
- 25:36know that sometimes people don't have healthy people in their life and
- 25:40I'm not naive to that fact. I understand, you know, my
- 25:43closest friends I met as an adult. There
- 25:47are people that I grew up with that I don't talk to anymore. I
- 25:51recognize that we weren't in alignment, right? And I had to grieve that
- 25:55relationship and it's okay, those relationships. But
- 25:59connecting with others, if you have family support, that's great. If
- 26:03not, find a community online. There are so many positive
- 26:06communities that are going on. Currently, the
- 26:11stuff that I have is only in person, like the somatic classes at
- 26:14my wellness center, I'll talk about that at the end, are
- 26:18only in person. But my goal down the road
- 26:21is to create a digital platform,
- 26:27right, so people can practice the
- 26:30things that I'm offering, not just in person, but online. There
- 26:35are groups, there are free groups. NAMI is a great group in the United
- 26:38States. There's chapters in every state. And some states
- 26:44have Zoom components to it where you can
- 26:48join a support group online, right? So find
- 26:52your tribe, right? Try to connect with like-minded people.
- 26:55There's something powerful when you are connecting with like-minded people
- 26:59and they get it. It's like, oh yeah, you get that. I've
- 27:03helped people connect with different platforms and
- 27:07groups that are in alignment with what they're going through, whether it's
- 27:10eating disorder, some kind of addiction. And
- 27:14they come back and they're like, oh my God, it was so amazing. Like these
- 27:17people get it. Like they're my community. They're my family. And
- 27:21I want you to think about that. I know sometimes it's hard when you've
- 27:25been hurt, but staying by
- 27:29yourself in isolation, especially when you're struggling, is
- 27:33a really hard place to be because you'll find
- 27:37yourself starting to believe the negativity that's happening in your
- 27:40head. So if you are finding yourself very isolated,
- 27:44I would encourage you, even if you're not ready to do anything in
- 27:47person, to find a digital online platform with
- 27:51like-minded people, whether you're going through depression, anxiety, some
- 27:55trauma, don't do it alone. I
- 27:58don't believe we were meant to do life alone. The
- 28:02last two things, creative outlets, that's
- 28:07really helpful. Engaging in things like painting, drawing,
- 28:10for people that are creative. I'm not a creative person. Well,
- 28:14I guess people would say I'm creative with some of the things that I do, but as far as
- 28:17like painting and drawing and stuff, it's just not my jam. But
- 28:21I have a lot of people that I know that I work with, they love it, like
- 28:24it's their jam. and my guided journal acts, how are you
- 28:27feeling? But I also have a little circle face where people can draw in
- 28:30how they're feeling, because I recognize that there are just creative people around
- 28:33the world. And when you're not tapping into that
- 28:37creativity, there's something inside you that feels like it's dying, right? Even
- 28:40if it's not about making money, there's some nurses that are
- 28:44saving lives, but they also are drawing and
- 28:47coloring because it just feels good to them. So Creative
- 28:50Outlets is something that can be really helpful. The
- 28:54last thing I wanna say about getting grounded, right? In the
- 28:57middle of chaos, right? Take what you can from this, right?
- 29:02Leave what doesn't work, but there are a lot of these
- 29:05things that I'm talking about are very practical or things that you can start
- 29:08right now in this very moment. But the last thing is establishing a
- 29:12routine. Creating structure in chaos is
- 29:16the best thing that you can do. When the pandemic happened, And
- 29:20um, I remember i'm like, I didn't know what was going on. We didn't know
- 29:23what was going on But then i'm working with people helping them like and
- 29:26I said, you know what? Let's let's start with the routine Um
- 29:30a routine allows your mind to settle down a little bit,
- 29:33right? so, um If all you do is go and
- 29:37work go to work and come home try to create something where
- 29:40you're intentional about it, like a mindfulness practice, a gratitude
- 29:44practice, a walking thing, right? Try
- 29:48to allow yourself to create systems where
- 29:52you're not just going the way with the wind blows. You know how like a leaf,
- 29:56the window's open, I'm looking outside, like a leaf can like fly,
- 29:59it's there, but then it's over there. If a wind comes, it's going to
- 30:03blow there. Don't be like a leaf just like blowing everywhere,
- 30:06right? Be get grounded and
- 30:09getting grounded. You need some kind of systems. You need some kind
- 30:13of routines And you need some some times where you're
- 30:16allowing yourself to take care of yourself Because if you're not
- 30:20doing that then when somebody calls you and they need something you
- 30:23don't recognize. Oh wait I don't have the capacity to
- 30:26do that now or even picking up the phone some of you are picking up the phone And
- 30:30you're letting people vent and talk to you about things.
- 30:33You don't want to talk about Work already left nine
- 30:37to five is seven o'clock and y'all still talking about the same thing And
- 30:41you're trying to figure out why you can't sleep why you're ruminating on work
- 30:45why it's sunday and you're thinking about oh my gosh I gotta
- 30:48go to work monday. So then you don't enjoy sunday Create
- 30:52a routine. Start to be intentional
- 30:56about what you put your focus on, because your mind can
- 30:59only go at the pace that you take it. If you are not allowing your mind to
- 31:03bring in gratitude, to smell the roses, to be
- 31:07in the sun, to journal, to be
- 31:10creative, if you're not allowing your mind to do that, and you're
- 31:13just scrolling on social media, playing games, and
- 31:17watching the news, then that's where your mind is gonna be. Your
- 31:21mind's going to be like a leaf, which what's happening today, if I'm
- 31:24in this place, all right, we're fearful today. But if
- 31:28that's not the life you want, then you have to work on creating systems
- 31:32for yourself. So I hope this was
- 31:35helpful. I hope this makes sense. I
- 31:38want to share some of the offerings that we have coming up for July at
- 31:42my center. If you are in the Stoughton
- 31:45area, if you go to my website, stwyt.com, you
- 31:50can find it and I'm on the MindBody app. So
- 31:53excited about that. But I'm going to share some of the offerings we
- 31:56have. So our last offering for June is a
- 31:59sound healing class by Jillian. And
- 32:03this is going to be great. So, you know, these classes, they
- 32:06help with anxiety, it helps calm your body down.
- 32:10So this is happening Thursday, June 26. These
- 32:15classes are happening once a month that I'm about to talk about. So,
- 32:19um, we have rest and restore that's happening July 1st,
- 32:22I believe. And then, um, we also have a, so
- 32:26rest and restore is a gentle practice with a guided experience that
- 32:29combines, uh, breath work and chair yoga. and
- 32:32a calming meditation. It helps relieve tension and
- 32:35stress. We also have a mindful yin. And
- 32:39this is basically combined stillness and
- 32:42mindfulness meditation. So we're using our breath and awareness to
- 32:46connect with our body. We also have a restorative
- 32:49yoga class. This is a gentle meditative practice
- 32:54That uses props like blankets and bolsters to support the
- 32:57body. And you're held in different spaces, a very relaxing,
- 33:01recharged space to be in. And
- 33:05then we added this new monthly class that we had last month and
- 33:09it's actually a trauma-informed yoga. So
- 33:12if you have struggled with some trauma, this is a really good class
- 33:16and we have an amazing practitioner that runs this class,
- 33:20but a trauma-informed yoga. So
- 33:23it's for a gentle grounding class designed to help you reconnect with your
- 33:27body's wisdom. Our body has wisdom, right? Just
- 33:30because things have happened doesn't mean that we can't change. the
- 33:34algorithm of our body don't believe what the people told you i'm telling
- 33:37you right now if you're still breathing there's room for change um the
- 33:40slow flow practice emphasizes choice consent and safety supporting
- 33:45your nervous system regulation body awareness and self-compassion Um,
- 33:49and then, um, another class, um, we're having this month is
- 33:52befriending the inner critic cultivating self-compassion. So
- 33:56if you struggle with your inner dialogue, you know, I said today, my
- 34:00inner dialogue is a beast. Like you can't tell me anything other
- 34:03than what I know I am. Um, but this is focused on
- 34:07shame resilience and internal dialogue, starting with a short talk on
- 34:10the inner critic and reframing exercises with changing your
- 34:14inner dialogue, moving into a heart opening trauma informed Slow
- 34:17flow and ending with a medal of kindness meditation. Um, so
- 34:21all of these classes are on the website Um, my website
- 34:24is stwyt.com as you can see on the screen Um,
- 34:28and you can also follow me everywhere at celeste the therapist I
- 34:32also want to share my website
- 34:36so you can kind of see how it works. And
- 34:41let me just share my screen really quick and then we're gonna
- 34:45go. So if you go to stwyt.com, you'll see this
- 34:48right here. And as you can see, the next class is happening is
- 34:51a sound healing class. But if you go to events right
- 34:55here, you will see the, the
- 35:00monthly calendar. And like today, there's no class,
- 35:03but if you look for Thursday, there is a sound healing
- 35:07class. And all you got to do is go to book and it will show
- 35:10you a description of the class. And once you confirm it,
- 35:14you will be able to sign into MindBody and book it. My
- 35:18goal, you know, my goal is to have classes throughout the
- 35:22week, right? So we started with one, then two, then three.
- 35:25Now we have four monthly classes. I
- 35:29added a fifth one. You can look at the full calendar and
- 35:34like our next class is July 1st, I believe. So
- 35:38I'm gonna go here. And here it is right
- 35:41here. And then if you scroll down, you
- 35:45can see it this way
- 35:48too, where it gives you descriptions of the classes and
- 35:52you can look at the schedule that way as
- 35:55well. Um, so stwit.com you
- 35:59can find those everywhere I just want to say, you know Thank you
- 36:03so much for rocking out with me if anything I ever say resonates for
