- 0:00Hello everyone, and welcome to the Kenny Wallace Show, brought
- 0:03to you by Jags, the leader in high performance aftermarket car
- 0:08parts. Remember to go to jags.com.
- 0:12You're probably wondering, Herman, where are you at now?
- 0:15We are in St. Louis, MO at the beautiful Saint
- 0:19Louis University. What's our what's our nickname?
- 0:21Slew, Right, guys, we're going to do something really
- 0:25interesting. By October 2024, I got an
- 0:29invitation to come down here and watch the students put together
- 0:34an electric race car. So I'm here.
- 0:36I've donated a little bit of money to the project.
- 0:39And this man met me in Lincoln, IL, and I won that night.
- 0:45It was a big UMP race, so let's move a little bit closer.
- 0:49OK? Your name, Jonah.
- 0:51Jonah. And I remember that, Matt.
- 0:53Matt, you were the one that invited me.
- 0:55Caleb. Caleb.
- 0:58All right, gang, where are you? Take Matt.
- 0:59Where are you taking me to? Taking you to Oliver Hall to
- 1:02meet the parks racing team and see the car.
- 1:04All right, let's go, everybody. OK, here we are.
- 1:07We are Where? Where are we?
- 1:09What's this called? Oliver High.
- 1:12Oliver Hall So Joe would come up here for a minute.
- 1:15All right, we got a lot of students behind us.
- 1:19So before we start, let's do a nice slow 360 and don't be shy.
- 1:23Just do a complete 360 and everybody say hi.
- 1:28Yep, there they are. Yeah, this is awesome.
- 1:35Yeah. Well, thank you everyone.
- 1:37We've had a nice talk. Jonah, this is the framing cage
- 1:42is what I call it to the start of the is there is there a name?
- 1:47PR5PR5 Parks Racing 50. I like that.
- 1:52Parks Racing 5 so maybe roll on in here a little bit and let's
- 1:57they have done a lot of tubing Notchy.
- 1:59I I think the welding has been great, but yeah, they've had to
- 2:04notch the tubing and and these students are are learning.
- 2:08So can you show me the radius rods now these are they're not
- 2:13used to doing in the in the this for us races.
- 2:16We this is what we do for a living, but check this out
- 2:18there. These are the.
- 2:20This is the upper A frame. Yep.
- 2:22So this is a upper, a arm. Yeah, this one is actually for
- 2:25the rear, but I'll say I get the front.
- 2:27Let's go. Back let's go where it's going
- 2:29to go that. Ain't.
- 2:31The way to that's OK, so this would be the upper A frame.
- 2:36Kind of love it region and then these get welded.
- 2:42Welded in there it's. Kind of like that.
- 2:44Yeah, very nice. So almost like an IndyCar
- 2:48wishbone, they call it a wishbone, you know, when you're
- 2:51Thanksgiving at the wishbone. So that's a wishbone upper
- 2:55A-frame. And I bet you all didn't know
- 2:57that. Ridiculous.
- 2:59OK, what about let's go over here a little bit closer.
- 3:04This is very impressive. Everybody's 3D printing.
- 3:07So explain to us. You got the hub here.
- 3:11Yep. OK.
- 3:14So we have a wheel hub. This is actually a 3D printed
- 3:17brake disc. Check these kids out the 3D
- 3:20printing. These are rotors, right?
- 3:23For all of us racers, we know this so.
- 3:25That's that's just a mock up. So we'll actually water jet our
- 3:28own brake discs. You're going to make your own
- 3:30rotors. They're going to What are you
- 3:32guys going to Jetter? Yeah, They got great machinery
- 3:35here. I saw a a Haas CNC machine, so
- 3:39we know they own a couple Formula One cars.
- 3:42Gene Oss, if you're wanting to know where Gene Hosk gets all
- 3:45his money, I can tell you everybody's got one of his
- 3:47pieces of machinery, OK? And then these are going to be
- 3:50the upright, so these will be in the front.
- 3:53So the wish cones will mount here and here, tie rod mounts
- 3:57there, and then the brake caliper and then this wheel hub
- 4:00will slide in there. So this whole thing to go get
- 4:04your A frames, we'll we'll have some teamwork here, but they're
- 4:08making all this. I'm very impressed.
- 4:11So your wishbone will be up here and this will all go here and
- 4:18the right rear tire will bolt right on this.
- 4:21Good job, students. That that's awesome.
- 4:24Who's the main 3D printer person?
- 4:27Oh, come here. Stay right there.
- 4:29Stay right there. This is awesome.
- 4:31Yes, you're awfully smart. How did you learn how to 3D
- 4:34print? On trial and error and a lot of
- 4:36practice, I'm just so taught. So I picked it up.
- 4:39I actually got three years ago, I got a 3D printer.
- 4:43I'm just for Christmas, knew nothing about it, didn't know
- 4:46anything about it. And just from trial and error I
- 4:49just learned how to do. It man, oh man.
- 4:51And so you'll turn. This will be made out aluminum.
- 4:54I yes, I think so. This yeah.
- 4:56And and this obviously made out of some type of steel.
- 4:59Yes. Or that'll be yeah.
- 5:01Cast iron brake rotor. Yeah.
- 5:03Well, good jobs to everybody. So how many how many students?
- 5:09We got one. What do you do?
- 5:11I'm I'm for the drivetrain so I've designed the steering as
- 5:14well as the pedal plate and I'm also working on the dashboard.
- 5:16As well, I'll make make the dashboard out of carbon fiber.
- 5:23I got to get him some carbon fiber.
- 5:25Yeah, that's awesome. Well, good job.
- 5:28So carbon fiber 3D printer I'm working on like.
- 5:32The main battery cell box. So like what distributes all the
- 5:35electricity on the system? Have you talked to Elon Musk
- 5:39yet? He's the best.
- 5:42Yeah. Body work.
- 5:45Body work, Yes, make it look good.
- 5:47Aerodynamics. That's the plan.
- 5:49And aerodynamic, We'll get there later.
- 5:51As long as there's fireworks on the car.
- 5:53And behind this is a wind tunnel.
- 5:55That's our own wind tunnel right there.
- 5:57These two I know went to Texas University, Arlington.
- 6:02University of Texas, Arlington. Yeah.
- 6:04Let me give you this back. I'm carrying it around like
- 6:06groceries. So one thing I like that the
- 6:10students did is they didn't think they were too good for the
- 6:13project. You went to Arlington and did
- 6:15y'all learn some things? Yep, for sure.
- 6:17We talked to a lot of the people on the team and got some good
- 6:20advice on like modeling and that kind of stuff, yeah.
- 6:23So come on, so we can we don't, hey, we don't got a speaker or a
- 6:27microphone. What about you?
- 6:30I work on the battery. Management system.
- 6:32Just. Battery.
- 6:33Management. House wired and stuff.
- 6:35So I was. I was born, you know, attention
- 6:38deficit disorder. I'm hyper.
- 6:40So you know what just caught my I'm distracted right now.
- 6:43Move out of the way. Look, look what I just found.
- 6:50And I just did a interview with Irish Saunders, who's with
- 6:54Hoosier Towers for 40 years. So these come out of around
- 6:58Lakeville IN Plymouth, IN. That's awesome.
- 7:02So going to have a Hoosier Times on this baby.
- 7:04Yeah. Good job.
- 7:07Come on. And then I'm working on the
- 7:10suspension suspension cadding stuff so we can make them.
- 7:14Yeah, yeah. The CAD on the computer.
- 7:16Yeah. Good job.
- 7:17My my son-in-law, Brody. You know, you get on the
- 7:21computer. CAD is where you design it and
- 7:24then make it come to life. Don't be shy.
- 7:29Come on, keep following me. They won't be.
- 7:32So I work in the powertrain mostly with the differential in
- 7:36the motor. So I'm designing the
- 7:38differential amounts which he's got.
- 7:40Right here. We have a 3D printed mock up of
- 7:43it, so this will be mostly water jet and then for the inside lip
- 7:49it'll have to be we'll have to use the CNC.
- 7:52Oh, I love it. You're talking my life.
- 7:53So. So the when all when it all
- 7:56comes down to it, are you telling me all the power is
- 7:59going to go to this? Is this our differential?
- 8:01Yeah, awesome. So all the power will go to this
- 8:04and this will. Yeah, we'll have a largest
- 8:06bracket. Deb attached us to these point
- 8:08here, driven by just a motorcycle chain, and then, Yep,
- 8:11that's what we'll get. Our absolutely fantastic.
- 8:14Oh, what about your, your last but not least circuit batteries?
- 8:17Oh, what do you mean? Just so I think what do we have
- 8:21four people on the battery? Yeah, 5 five people on the
- 8:26battery. All right, so I think that's it.
- 8:29Why don't you come over let's trade places the camera.
- 8:32We won't show you She's wanted by the police.
- 8:35No, come over here. We're going to we're going to
- 8:38end like this. I would like you all behind me
- 8:40up. Listen, this this is a a big
- 8:45shout out to Saint Louis University in Saint Louis.
- 8:49We call this bunch slew. Matt, how many students are on
- 8:53the whole campus? There's around 15,000 and 15,015
- 8:57thousand people. I think we're quite famous.
- 9:00Got a good basketball team that's known throughout America.
- 9:03But anyway, thank you all for inviting me.
- 9:05Thank you. And remember to log on and see
- 9:09yourself here on the on the Kenny Wallace YouTube show.
- 9:13All right, well, listen, where do we go to learn more about
- 9:16this projectsomething.com, slew.edu, slew, sluslew.edu.com
- 9:26and then. We also.
- 9:27Have our. Own website.
- 9:29Is it? Formulizedslew.edu.
- 9:31What is it? Formulas.
- 9:32Parks, racing.com.com. Let's do it all over again.
- 9:37Can you tell me? OK, it's good.
- 9:39Let's say it's up. There is.
- 9:41There a. Parks, hold on.
- 9:43Let me see. Oh my.
- 9:46Slough is over here. Come on over here.
- 9:51We want to get it right. So if you want to follow this
- 9:53project, maybe let's show this really nice.
- 9:56Let's focus up there a little bit.
- 9:59There we go right there. Let's stay like that just for a
- 10:01little bit. So there we are.
- 10:02Everybody follow this project. This is where we find all the
- 10:08smart people and they make things better for all of us in
- 10:12the future. Until the next Kenny Wallace
- 10:17YouTube show. We'll see you all later.
