- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard line. Second of eight
- 0:08Speaker 1: free wide receivers now in motion as Puppas left to right,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Julius Jones were single setback Matt pump Facs looking at
- 0:14Speaker 1: the goal line. He throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What's up, folks,
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is Michael Bumpus and you're listening to Hawk Talk
- 0:36Speaker 1: the preview edition, Week eight along here with Nasa Choby,
- 0:39Speaker 1: the Hats go down to Atlanta to face the Falcons.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We need a bounce back game, but before we get
- 0:44Speaker 1: into it, I'm gonna send it over to NASS for
- 0:46Speaker 1: the injury updates. Thanks Michael Pete Carroll step to the
- 0:49Speaker 1: podium this week and gave some updates on safety Radley McDougald,
- 0:53Speaker 1: tight end Ed Dixon, tackle Dwayne Brown, and d Linan
- 0:57Speaker 1: Ziggy on set. He's Bradley autside there I don't know
- 1:01Speaker 1: that yet. Um, he's not practicing today. That's all I
- 1:04Speaker 1: can tell you today. Um, so I can't tell you.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I don't know what's Dixon's status. He's working really well.
- 1:13Speaker 1: He's um, he's going to come back next week. Um,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and I think next week is his first chance back?
- 1:19Speaker 1: Is that right? Is it? Next week? He can practically
- 1:22Speaker 1: he's practicing next week and he based on what I'm seeing,
- 1:25Speaker 1: he's going to be practicing to play. And uh, that's
- 1:28Speaker 1: pretty optimistic right now. But I've watched his workouts a
- 1:32Speaker 1: number of times in the last couple of weeks, and
- 1:33Speaker 1: he's working hard, and he has a chance and and
- 1:36Speaker 1: uh meaning he has a chance to come back in
- 1:38Speaker 1: that week and and help us on. So we'll see
- 1:41Speaker 1: what happens. But that's pretty hopeful. But he looks good
- 1:44Speaker 1: dayne the old practice today. Um, he's gonna get some
- 1:47Speaker 1: more today. Yep. I was ziggy sentry. We'll see how
- 1:52Speaker 1: he does today. He ran really well this morning and um,
- 1:55Speaker 1: he looked he looked like he's really close to getting back.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So we have a chance to see him play this week.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Safety Lano Hill is also out with an elbow injury.
- 2:02Speaker 1: That's probably gonna keep him out for another couple of weeks.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Another move. The Seahawks made a big roster move this week,
- 2:08Speaker 1: bringing in former Lion safety Quandre Diggs. Diggs was a
- 2:11Speaker 1: Pro Bowl alternate last year after a seventy eight tackle,
- 2:14Speaker 1: three interception season with eight passes defended. He's going to
- 2:18Speaker 1: be a big help in the secondary. As I said
- 2:20Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, Bradley and Lano Hars dealing with some injuries,
- 2:24Speaker 1: so he's gonna be big help to that Seahawks secondary.
- 2:26Speaker 1: All right, Now, we'll get into the Week eight matchup
- 2:29Speaker 1: against the Atlanta Falcons. Of Falcons have lost five in
- 2:32Speaker 1: a row and included an ugly loss to the Rams.
- 2:35Speaker 1: They fell thirty seven to ten. And it sounded something
- 2:38Speaker 1: like this, third down and two and again the spot
- 2:41Speaker 1: of ball is the right hash and the thirteen of
- 2:43Speaker 1: Atlanta goth breaks the hubble they set up two by two.
- 2:47Speaker 1: He takes the quick snap, looking right all the way,
- 2:49Speaker 1: lobs the ball to Gurley out of the backfield goal
- 2:51Speaker 1: over the summer. He brings it in touchdown time. Gurley,
- 2:58Speaker 1: with one of the great cat up his career back
- 3:02Speaker 1: in Georgia, ran past Vic Beasley for the first touchdown
- 3:06Speaker 1: of the game. What a play and what a throw
- 3:09Speaker 1: by Jared Golf. Here Todd's able to catch the ball,
- 3:12Speaker 1: tuck it, get two feet down and find a way
- 3:15Speaker 1: to hang onto the ball. But to throw by Jared Golf,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I mean he drops that ball in the bucket. And
- 3:19Speaker 1: we've seen quarterbacks this drill where quarterbacks are standing about
- 3:22Speaker 1: twenty yards away from a trash can they try to
- 3:24Speaker 1: drop in the bucket. Will Jared Golf just did that.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And what a catch by Todd Gurley, Mike, It's been
- 3:30Speaker 1: a long month in a little bit, five weeks, five
- 3:33Speaker 1: straight losses for the Falcons. What do you see from
- 3:35Speaker 1: them last week against the Rams? What I saw nas
- 3:37Speaker 1: was a lot of what I've seen all this year
- 3:39Speaker 1: from these guys and offense that can get it done
- 3:41Speaker 1: sometimes and the defense that can stop nobody their last
- 3:44Speaker 1: or bottom to last in almost every major statistical category
- 3:47Speaker 1: for a defense. Also, Matt Ryan went down. He bent
- 3:51Speaker 1: his leg awkwardly on the sack caused by Aaron Donald
- 3:53Speaker 1: in the fourth, causing a fumble that Donald recovered. Ryan
- 3:56Speaker 1: limped off the field, went to the medical tent. They
- 3:58Speaker 1: took him in the locker room in an ankle with
- 4:00Speaker 1: seven thirty six were mating in the game, So third
- 4:04Speaker 1: now and the full ten day. At the twenty eight
- 4:07Speaker 1: Rams lead twenty seven to three, there comes the pressure
- 4:11Speaker 1: Ryan will be sacked by Aaron Donald, and Donald's got
- 4:15Speaker 1: the football and the play is gonna be whistled dead
- 4:20Speaker 1: and I hope Ryan's okay. It looks like the right
- 4:23Speaker 1: ankle ruling on the field is a fumble recovered by
- 4:27Speaker 1: number ninety nine of the rounds, who was then touched
- 4:30Speaker 1: down by contact at the spot of the recovery. Oh boy,
- 4:34Speaker 1: Los Angeles' ball person's head. Now, this is a really
- 4:38Speaker 1: severe bin to the right leg of Ryan, because Donald
- 4:41Speaker 1: falls thirteen minutes thirty eight seconds on the right leg
- 4:45Speaker 1: in a complete whiff of So I don't know how
- 4:47Speaker 1: Switzer ends up one on one on Aaron Donald, but
- 4:50Speaker 1: that's that's what happened, and that's a no win situation.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So obviously Matt Ryan went down in that game did
- 4:56Speaker 1: not return. Here was dan Quinn kind of giving a
- 4:59Speaker 1: status up on Ryan as they head into this week,
- 5:01Speaker 1: So everybody's waiting on a status update on Matt Ryan.
- 5:05Speaker 1: He does have a sprained ankle. We'll be preparing both ways.
- 5:09Speaker 1: If he can, that's great, and if he can't, then
- 5:12Speaker 1: Dubuye would come at a good time for him. Next week.
- 5:16Speaker 1: He's already in the pool running this. You guys been
- 5:20Speaker 1: around him. He'll try anything he can, so if he can't,
- 5:23Speaker 1: that's the reason Matt shob is heres for moments like that.
- 5:26Speaker 1: If he is called upon, he'll certainly be ready to
- 5:28Speaker 1: do that, much like it is at every position. So man,
- 5:32Speaker 1: it sucks to see Matt Ryan go down. Whenever a
- 5:35Speaker 1: quarterback gets rolled up on buy an offensive lineman, defensive lineman,
- 5:38Speaker 1: it usually isn't good. And it really hurts this team
- 5:40Speaker 1: because that was one of the few Brice busts they have.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Their offense was getting it done. Now you lose your leader,
- 5:45Speaker 1: your Pro Bowler, your MVP, you your Super Bowl not
- 5:49Speaker 1: winning but participant quarterback, and that really hurts the team.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And before he went down he was sixteen to twenty nine,
- 5:54Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty nine yards and one interception. Then
- 5:58Speaker 1: Mats Schwab comes in. This guy has like nine lines
- 6:00Speaker 1: in NFL. He's been a lead for about fifteen years now.
- 6:03Speaker 1: When he did replace Ryan, he had a ten yard
- 6:05Speaker 1: touchdown to Austin Hooper with two thirty six remaining. Also,
- 6:09Speaker 1: what happened in this game? Did you see DeVonta Freeman
- 6:12Speaker 1: and Aaron Donald get locked up? Man, that's his frustration
- 6:16Speaker 1: right there. When when someone puts their hands on you
- 6:18Speaker 1: and lists you off your feet, You're not gonna you're
- 6:20Speaker 1: gonna feel a certain type of way about that. Man. Yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'm not mad at him. I mean, you got to
- 6:24Speaker 1: be professional. Maybe not throw a punch, I get it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: But as a man, as a grown man, if another
- 6:29Speaker 1: growl man picks me up and lists me off the ground,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I gotta do something. Yeah, I know, I'm gonna feel
- 6:32Speaker 1: certain type of way about that. So and I get it. Man,
- 6:35Speaker 1: when you're when you're a team that has as much
- 6:37Speaker 1: talent as the Falcons do and they're loaded offensively, when
- 6:40Speaker 1: you've lost five in a row, I mean, frustrations are
- 6:42Speaker 1: gonna boil over. If you lose five in a row,
- 6:44Speaker 1: you lose your quarterback, you're at home. Things happened, but
- 6:46Speaker 1: the lone bright spot was Julio Jones. He seems the
- 6:48Speaker 1: ball six receptions in ninety three yards. Julio, keep your
- 6:52Speaker 1: head up. I kind of feel bad for this dude.
- 6:54Speaker 1: He's wasted a lot of good years in his prime
- 6:56Speaker 1: on a team that's been struggling. So we're gonna move
- 6:59Speaker 1: over the key matchup Falcon starting QB versus Seahawks front seven.
- 7:03Speaker 1: For once, we are playing a quarterback that will not
- 7:06Speaker 1: run outside the pocket and give as a chance to
- 7:09Speaker 1: just put hands on the QB hits taging for losses.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We need that nast No, we absolutely do, because it's
- 7:15Speaker 1: like this is the complete polar opposite of anything that
- 7:18Speaker 1: they've faced the last couple of weeks they've had. Obviously,
- 7:20Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, you're preparing for that guy. You're not going
- 7:22Speaker 1: to see a guy like him again, So thank the
- 7:24Speaker 1: Lord if we see him again, Hopefulli'll be in February,
- 7:27Speaker 1: But until then, we're not going to see a guy
- 7:29Speaker 1: like that. So it's really it's gonna be really good
- 7:31Speaker 1: for our front seven to get a guy that only
- 7:34Speaker 1: gets success from the pocket struggles thrown from the run.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Whether it's Matt or it's Ryan, So either way, it's
- 7:40Speaker 1: really good for the Seahawks defensive line. Like mentioned earlier,
- 7:43Speaker 1: let's talk about Matt Ryan a bit. He's a twenty
- 7:45Speaker 1: sixteen MVP, four time pro bowler, first time All Pro.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Despite the fight has win a lost record. Ryme's having
- 7:51Speaker 1: a pretty good twenty nineteen. He's two thousand, one hundred
- 7:56Speaker 1: and seventy yards, second in NFL, just behind Patrick Mahomes
- 8:00Speaker 1: fifteen touchdowns, eight interceptions. If he can't go, like we said,
- 8:03Speaker 1: Matt Schwab is gonna get it done. I like how
- 8:06Speaker 1: coaches kind of downplay injuries. Yeah, high ankle sprain. Will
- 8:08Speaker 1: see how he does that thing look bad. Sua get
- 8:11Speaker 1: ready to go. You're gonna get your chance. Sua has
- 8:13Speaker 1: been in the league for fifteen years, has twenty four
- 8:15Speaker 1: thousand passing yards and one hundred thirty four tds. He
- 8:19Speaker 1: led the Houston Texas to several playoff appearances. So he's
- 8:22Speaker 1: not a slout. This guy's been here, He's won some games,
- 8:24Speaker 1: He's been in some battles. He has some experience. No,
- 8:26Speaker 1: for sure, he's a two time Pro Bowler. He led
- 8:29Speaker 1: some pretty good Texans teams earlier this decade. So no,
- 8:31Speaker 1: the guy can that can play, and he's a When
- 8:33Speaker 1: it comes to backup quarterbacks, that's about the best that
- 8:36Speaker 1: you can get. You want a guy that's been established,
- 8:38Speaker 1: he's had success in the league and typically you want
- 8:41Speaker 1: that guy to come in be able to win you
- 8:42Speaker 1: a couple games and not completely have to change your
- 8:45Speaker 1: whole offensive game plan or something like that. Exactly. I'd
- 8:47Speaker 1: say the only other backup quarterback who can get it
- 8:49Speaker 1: done is that boy Teddy down in New Onleans. And
- 8:51Speaker 1: we know all about that guy, all right. So for
- 8:53Speaker 1: the first time again they're playing a pocket passer. We
- 8:56Speaker 1: expect our defensive line to put some pressure on him.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Read is going into a second game. We'll see if
- 9:01Speaker 1: Osa gets healthy. Clown, he's making some noise. Time for
- 9:04Speaker 1: us to put it all together. Another matchup Falcons receivers
- 9:07Speaker 1: versus Seahawk secondary. Man, these uh, these dbs better be ready.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You're going up against Julio Jones. I saw a clip
- 9:13Speaker 1: from Larry Fitzgerald last week. He tapped Kyler Murrain to
- 9:16Speaker 1: heap and said, man eleven. Fitzgerald said, he's the best
- 9:20Speaker 1: he's ever seen. You got one of the goats in
- 9:23Speaker 1: the game himself calling a youngster the best he's ever seen.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You know, this man is dangerous. There's no weakness in
- 9:29Speaker 1: this dude's game. He can run the short routes, he
- 9:31Speaker 1: can go up top, he catch the high footballs, the
- 9:32Speaker 1: low footballs, the run after catch is crazy. Um, He's
- 9:35Speaker 1: just a once in a lifetime type player. Love watching
- 9:39Speaker 1: this dude play. If you went into a lab and
- 9:41Speaker 1: you're like, hey, I need to create the best wide
- 9:44Speaker 1: receiver I can think about, Julio Jones, what you come
- 9:47Speaker 1: up with. Yeah, I mean, the dude is a physical
- 9:48Speaker 1: freak and no matter what, he's gonna get the ball.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I mean, he the numbers, don't lie man and goat
- 9:53Speaker 1: saying year to go. I mean, I can't complain. I can't,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I can't. I can't laugh about that. I'm not gonna
- 9:57Speaker 1: argue with fitz. Baby Calvin really a other weapon. Twenty
- 10:00Speaker 1: nine receptions, three hundred and seven and three yards four tds.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I really like this dude's route running. He really gets
- 10:06Speaker 1: on the safeties, good indicators. Those are the jaff steps
- 10:09Speaker 1: at the top of the routes. I love watching this
- 10:10Speaker 1: dude run routes. While it's not a receiver. They also
- 10:13Speaker 1: have Austin Hooper, who has been great thus far this season.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Forty six receptions, five hundred, twenty six yards four tds.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Those three alone are gonna give us problems, or at
- 10:23Speaker 1: least attempt to give us problems. But what I'm encouraged
- 10:26Speaker 1: by is the play of the secondary of these past
- 10:28Speaker 1: two weeks. I think they put him two solid weeks
- 10:30Speaker 1: together and maybe they're ready for this. They've seen a
- 10:32Speaker 1: Beckham in the landry. Now they're gonna see a Jones,
- 10:35Speaker 1: a really and a Hooper. And thankfully for us, Sanoo
- 10:38Speaker 1: got traded to the Patriots, so we don't have to
- 10:40Speaker 1: deal with that one less problem. Because Mohammed Sine's a ball.
- 10:43Speaker 1: He's probably gonna have a great year with the Patriots.
- 10:45Speaker 1: But lucky for us, if we don't get the team
- 10:46Speaker 1: this week, no serve another matchup to watch Chris Carson
- 10:50Speaker 1: versus the Falcons front seven. We need to get back
- 10:52Speaker 1: to what we do all right. After having three straight
- 10:54Speaker 1: one hundred yard rushing games, Chris Carson was held to
- 10:56Speaker 1: sixty five yards last Sunday, and I think it was
- 11:00Speaker 1: war because of skim. The Baltimore Ravens blitz along the
- 11:03Speaker 1: edges a lot, and it seemed like we were trying
- 11:05Speaker 1: to stretch the field east and west and hit those
- 11:07Speaker 1: edges instead of hitting the straight up the gut. We
- 11:09Speaker 1: talked to Ray Roberts yesterday about this and he mentioned
- 11:12Speaker 1: the same thing. Just get back to what we're doing
- 11:14Speaker 1: North South running, get him on dbs, get him on safeties,
- 11:17Speaker 1: and let him run through those guys. The Falcons are
- 11:19Speaker 1: giving up one hundred and thirteen yards per game on
- 11:22Speaker 1: the ground. I think it's time for us to get
- 11:24Speaker 1: back to what we do. We're currently seventh in the
- 11:26Speaker 1: NFL rushing with five hundred and sixty nine yards through
- 11:29Speaker 1: seven games. Chris Carson is seventh. Another matchup to watch
- 11:33Speaker 1: Russell Wilson versus the Falcons secondary. Russell Wilson had his
- 11:37Speaker 1: worst game of the season last week. A lot of
- 11:40Speaker 1: guys have that type of game every week now, so
- 11:42Speaker 1: I we're spoiled to his standards. When your standards are
- 11:46Speaker 1: at MVP level and at the top of his game, Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 1: when you have a game like that, it's gonna seem
- 11:50Speaker 1: like the world's falling. But Russell literally just had an
- 11:53Speaker 1: average gabage to his standards, so he's gonna be fine. Yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 1: A B plus game rese of those eight plus games,
- 11:58Speaker 1: all right, Falcons are the eighth rank pass defense in
- 12:01Speaker 1: the NFL, allowing two hundred and seventy four yards through
- 12:04Speaker 1: the air each week. Also, the Falcons ranked thirty first
- 12:07Speaker 1: and points allowed at thirty one points per game, we're
- 12:10Speaker 1: around the fourth or fifth ranks scoring offense, so this
- 12:13Speaker 1: is perfect for us. Russell Wilson is an MVP candidate
- 12:16Speaker 1: for a reason, and we expect him to have a
- 12:18Speaker 1: really big day this weekend down South. Indoors don't have
- 12:22Speaker 1: to worry about the weather. The noise will be a factor,
- 12:24Speaker 1: but it's nice to play in the controlled elements where
- 12:26Speaker 1: we can do whatever we want to. Yeah, and if
- 12:28Speaker 1: we do like you said the previous key matchup, if
- 12:30Speaker 1: Chris Carson gets going, we get him going like he's
- 12:32Speaker 1: been going all season, right, and then Russell plays off Tad,
- 12:35Speaker 1: that's when those play actions start hitting. I'd love to
- 12:37Speaker 1: see Russell hit Tyler lock In on a deep bomb,
- 12:40Speaker 1: you know, seventy five yards or something like that, after
- 12:42Speaker 1: you know, Chris Carson pounding for five for six for seven,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and boom, go over the top. So I feel pretty
- 12:47Speaker 1: good about our matchups. Defensively, I feel good. Man. I
- 12:50Speaker 1: think we're gonna come back home six and two have
- 12:52Speaker 1: to victory. We gotta create ton of us get back
- 12:55Speaker 1: to what we started against the Browns, and we need
- 12:57Speaker 1: to get to the quarterback. There's a lot of times
- 12:59Speaker 1: we've been around the quarterback, we've made a move, but
- 13:01Speaker 1: we wanted to fill us all right. We want we
- 13:03Speaker 1: want him to be sore after the game. We want
- 13:05Speaker 1: him to know that this defensive line and defensive front
- 13:08Speaker 1: this came after and smatch you in the face. We
- 13:11Speaker 1: need to run the ball. When the Hawks do that,
- 13:12Speaker 1: they're incredibly hard to be. Take advantage of the falcon
- 13:15Speaker 1: struggling defense. This is like when you see this a
- 13:17Speaker 1: wounded opponent and he's a limping on the field. He's
- 13:20Speaker 1: limping to the tunnel man. We gotta jump on him.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Don't give him any kind of home. The one advantage
- 13:25Speaker 1: they have is that they're at home in that dome
- 13:27Speaker 1: and he gets extremely loud. But I think this is
- 13:29Speaker 1: set up for us to have a good game. It
- 13:30Speaker 1: absolutely is. And we were jumping in ahead. We're four
- 13:33Speaker 1: and on the road. We're four and on the road,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and they've got Pete Carroll and the coaching staff has
- 13:37Speaker 1: gotten the formula. They know what they do. They all
- 13:40Speaker 1: the players get on the early bus, they leave on
- 13:42Speaker 1: Friday for a Sunday game. They got all that camaraderie
- 13:45Speaker 1: and they figured out what to do on the road.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Ten am time does not matter. They're rolling on the road,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and this sets up perfectly for him, sets up perfectly.
- 13:53Speaker 1: We got a herd quarterback, we got a poor, poor
- 13:56Speaker 1: rushing defense, poor passing defense. Snow is gone, so you you
- 14:00Speaker 1: gotta worry about Julio, Ridley and Hooper. But I think
- 14:03Speaker 1: this is set up for us to have a great weekend. Twelves,
- 14:05Speaker 1: tune in watch this game, bounce back, get right game,
- 14:09Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it. We gotta get it done.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Ask for me. That's Hawk Talk Preview Edition. I'm Michael
- 14:14Speaker 1: Bump is your host, along with my producer Nasa Choby.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Have a great one.
