Latest / The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson / God, Guns & Hypocrisy? Tallarico Says 'Texas Ignores God on Gun Control'
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: If you have encouraged white nationalist rhetoric, if you have
- 0:05Speaker 1: blocked common sense gun safety measures, if you have refused
- 0:09Speaker 1: to expand mental health care, if you have accepted contributions
- 0:14Speaker 1: from dark money groups like the NRA, then you have
- 0:16Speaker 1: blood on your hands.
- 0:18Speaker 2: You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Good Friday morning. It's nice to have you with us
- 0:24Speaker 3: on the 47 Morning Update. And we've got a big
- 0:27Speaker 3: story for you. Democrats are all in to stop Donald
- 0:31Speaker 3: Trump and his agenda. They want to make sure they
- 0:33Speaker 3: take back the House and the Senate so that nothing
- 0:37Speaker 3: that Donald Trump got elected to do can be done
- 0:39Speaker 3: for the next two years. The candidates they're picking are
- 0:43Speaker 3: very interesting. And one of them is a guy by
- 0:45Speaker 3: the name of James Tallarico. And his words and his
- 0:50Speaker 3: videos keep disappearing. The good news is we keep finding them.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So who is James Tallarico, and what does he actually
- 0:58Speaker 3: believe in that he doesn't want you to know about?
- 1:01Speaker 3: We do a deep dive into James Tallarico, and you're
- 1:04Speaker 3: going to want to share this with all of your
- 1:06Speaker 3: family and your friends. Before I get to that, the
- 1:09Speaker 3: midterm elections, they're heating up. Congressional control and President Trump's agenda,
- 1:14Speaker 3: they hang in the balance, and every headline has the
- 1:16Speaker 3: potential to shift the odds. On CalSheep, you can trade
- 1:19Speaker 3: major primaries, election outcomes, and the biggest political storylines as
- 1:24Speaker 3: they happen. Now, you can look at the elections several
- 1:28Speaker 3: different ways on CalSheep. You can look at how many
- 1:31Speaker 3: Senate seats will Democrats hold after the midterms. Yeah, you
- 1:35Speaker 3: can get in on that. Or how many Senate seats
- 1:37Speaker 3: will Republicans hold after the midterms? And you can also
- 1:40Speaker 3: look at the races as they're happening. Georgia has a
- 1:43Speaker 3: very big race right now with John Alsop and Mike Collins.
- 1:48Speaker 3: You can look at that race and decide what you
- 1:50Speaker 3: think and see if you're right down the road. Now,
- 1:53Speaker 3: you can also look at the Ken Paxson-Talarico race. And
- 1:56Speaker 3: right now, Paxson is currently trading at 50%. meaning a
- 2:00Speaker 3: $ 100 trade would pay out $ 93 if he beats James Tallarico.
- 2:05Speaker 3: On Kalshi, you're trading against peers in a live market,
- 2:08Speaker 3: meaning there's no house, and as the probability changes, you
- 2:12Speaker 3: can buy in and out of your position. So download
- 2:15Speaker 3: the Kalshi app and use the code BEN. You're going
- 2:19Speaker 3: to get $ 20 when you trade $ 20.
- 2:21Speaker 4: K-A-L-S-H-I. That's Kalshi. Trade on anything.
- 2:25Speaker 5: 18 plus only. Restrictions and eligibility requirements apply. Event contract
- 2:29Speaker 5: trading involves risk and may not be suitable for all investors.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Cauchy products are not available in all jurisdictions. Prices, values,
- 2:35Speaker 5: and available markets may differ from those mentioned. For more information,

- 2:40Speaker 4: It's the 47 Morning Update, and it starts right now.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Story number one.
- 2:45Speaker 3: We've been talking a lot about James Tallarico. He's trying
- 2:49Speaker 3: to get Americans to forget who he actually is. And
- 2:52Speaker 3: this is very much like we've seen with Al-Said and
- 2:55Speaker 3: You know, the insanity of that race in Michigan. But
- 2:58Speaker 3: what we're witnessing from the Texas Democrat is even more impressive.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Just the straight up deleting of what he said in
- 3:04Speaker 3: the past. Now, this moment, we're going to talk about guns.
- 3:09Speaker 3: James Tallarico, he clearly hates firearms. He's a guy that
- 3:14Speaker 3: believes in maximum gun control, meaning you don't have the
- 3:16Speaker 3: right to protect or defend your family. And James Tallarico
- 3:20Speaker 3: also really likes invoking God when he wants to get
- 3:24Speaker 3: something done, because remember, he's this pastor guy. Well, we
- 3:28Speaker 3: now have unearthed video of James Tallarico saying that the
- 3:32Speaker 3: failure to restrict AR-15s is, quote, ignoring God's messengers. Now,
- 3:39Speaker 3: you may ask yourself, who is he talking about being
- 3:42Speaker 3: the messengers? Is it the parents of kids? Is it
- 3:45Speaker 3: the Democrats who show up in Demand that we ban
- 3:49Speaker 3: all guns.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Is it the.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Shooters that are the messengers? Well, the Texas Democratic U.S.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Senate nominee not only has urged restrictions on firearms for
- 3:58Speaker 3: young adults during a Texas floor speech. But he framed
- 4:02Speaker 3: the lawmakers and their refusal to pass his proposal as
- 4:08Speaker 3: disregarding a direct message from God. In other words, James
- 4:11Speaker 3: Salrico says, God is on my side, and my bill
- 4:15Speaker 3: is God's bill, and anything you guys want to do
- 4:18Speaker 3: is not God's work, and so you're not listening to God.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I want you to understand why he decided, maybe we
- 4:27Speaker 3: don't want this video out there. Now, we have it,
- 4:29Speaker 3: and I'm going to play for.
- 4:30Speaker 4: You the audio. And this wasn't 10 years ago, all right?
- 4:33Speaker 3: This clip was actually posted to James Tallarico's YouTube channel
- 4:39Speaker 3: in 2023. And it shows this state representative making the
- 4:42Speaker 3: remarks during a debate over various bill proposed in response
- 4:46Speaker 3: to the 2022 shooting at Uvalde, Texas in that elementary school.
- 4:50Speaker 3: You may remember that story because it was sad and
- 4:54Speaker 3: people were shocked and angered to watch police not engage
- 4:57Speaker 3: the shooter. For minutes on end, while they were hearing
- 5:02Speaker 3: the gunshots going off, knowing that kids were dying. That
- 5:06Speaker 3: was the big story that came out of that shooting.
- 5:10Speaker 3: But James Tallarico says, no, no, no, that's not the
- 5:12Speaker 3: big story. The story is my bill has God's blessing
- 5:17Speaker 3: and none of yours do. And this is what he
- 5:20Speaker 3: said from the floor of the house in Austin while
- 5:23Speaker 3: he was demanding that you do what God says you
- 5:26Speaker 3: must do, which is to only, of course, support his
- 5:29Speaker 3: radical anti-gun bill.
- 5:31Speaker 6: We're the only country in the world that allows this
- 5:34Speaker 6: to happen. Globally, we are not an outlier in mental health.
- 5:40Speaker 6: We're not an outlier in school security. We're an outlier
- 5:45Speaker 6: in in the number of readily accessible weapons of war
- 5:49Speaker 6: in our community. You can't offer thoughts and prayers on
- 5:55Speaker 6: Monday and then debate a bill to loosen gun regulations
- 6:00Speaker 6: on Tuesday. I believe in the power of prayer. I
- 6:07Speaker 6: believe prayer can change lives. I believe prayer can change
- 6:10Speaker 6: the world. But there is something profoundly cynical about asking
- 6:16Speaker 6: God to solve a problem that we're not willing to
- 6:19Speaker 6: solve ourselves. God moves, God works through us. God has
- 6:28Speaker 6: no other hands but our hands. We prayed and God
- 6:35Speaker 6: sent moms from all over the state, from both political parties,
- 6:39Speaker 6: to advocate for gun safety. We prayed and God sent
- 6:44Speaker 6: families from Uvalde to travel 160 miles to advocate for
- 6:49Speaker 6: gun safety. We prayed, and God sent our colleague from
- 6:54Speaker 6: Uvalde to bring a bill that would prevent tragedies from
- 6:58Speaker 6: happening in the future. But instead of hearing that bill,
- 7:03Speaker 6: we're hearing this bill. We have ignored God's messengers. This
- 7:09Speaker 6: is moral madness. And this is not the Texas House
- 7:14Speaker 6: I know. Yesterday, members of this body from both political
- 7:19Speaker 6: parties summoned the courage to address this problem. That's the
- 7:25Speaker 6: Texas House I know, not this bill. I know many
- 7:30Speaker 6: of you are worried about your conservative scorecards, but the
- 7:34Speaker 6: only scorecard that matters is God's, and all of us
- 7:39Speaker 6: are failing. I urge you to vote no on this bill.
- 7:43Speaker 4: All right.
- 7:43Speaker 3: So to be clear, Talrico says that if you refuse
- 7:47Speaker 3: to pass his bill, HB 2744, a bill sponsored to
- 7:52Speaker 3: ban 18 to 21 year olds from owning certain guns,
- 7:55Speaker 3: it is, quote, ignoring God's messengers. And apparently he's like
- 8:00Speaker 3: been ordained by God to be the messenger of what
- 8:03Speaker 3: is right and what is wrong in anything that he decides. Now,
- 8:08Speaker 3: the Texas legislature did not pass the bill. They did
- 8:12Speaker 3: pass the Evaldi Strong Act, which was legislation focused on
- 8:16Speaker 3: strengthening security around schools. And there was a huge problem
- 8:20Speaker 3: that we saw in Evaldi, and that's what they were
- 8:22Speaker 3: actually trying to fix. They didn't just go on this
- 8:24Speaker 3: crusade to just say, oh, we got to get rid
- 8:27Speaker 3: of every gun, and somehow that'll fix the problem. Now,
- 8:31Speaker 3: Tallarico previously also criticized similar proposals and said that he
- 8:35Speaker 3: strongly opposed having police protect schools, arguing that doing so would, quote,
- 8:42Speaker 3: fuel a culture of violence. All right, so Tallarico says
- 8:47Speaker 3: my bill is God's bill, and if you don't support
- 8:49Speaker 3: my bill, then you're not supporting God and you're spitting
- 8:52Speaker 3: in God's face. And oh, if you want to have
- 8:55Speaker 3: police at schools to protect kids in schools, then you
- 8:58Speaker 3: are fueling a culture of violence. Now, Tallarico wasn't done there,
- 9:04Speaker 3: all right? Tallarico has continually invoked Christianity while advocating for
- 9:09Speaker 3: radical policy positions, including, by the way, his support for
- 9:13Speaker 3: the Green New Deal. He also says God would want
- 9:16Speaker 3: to abolish prisons. Apparently, God just tells him exactly what
- 9:20Speaker 3: he wants him to do. And providing taxpayer-funded health care
- 9:23Speaker 3: for illegal immigrants, he also says, is something that God
- 9:26Speaker 3: would want to happen. This is who James Tallarico is.
- 9:30Speaker 3: The RNC spokesman put it this way, saying, quote, And
- 9:42Speaker 3: sex change operations for children.
- 9:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Apparently God told him that children should be able to
- 9:48Speaker 3: pick their own sex and then you should have to
- 9:50Speaker 3: pay for their sex change operations as a minor while
- 9:54Speaker 3: you mutilate their bodies.
- 9:55Speaker 4: This is not a joke. This is, again, he's speaking
- 9:58Speaker 4: directly with God here. Now, not only did the RNC
- 10:02Speaker 4: spokesman say that, he said, quote, he is.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Truly a sick individual who will destroy Texans' way of
- 10:08Speaker 3: life if given the chance. Now, you may say, okay,
- 10:13Speaker 3: that seems a little bit extreme.
- 10:16Speaker 7: Is it?
- 10:17Speaker 3: Listen to James Tallarico in this back and forth, and
- 10:19Speaker 3: you tell me.
- 10:20Speaker 7: I'm Amanda Meredith.
- 10:22Speaker 6: I'm a veteran of the U.S.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Navy.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Hey.
- 10:24Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 10:25Speaker 7: I'm from South Oak Cliff. My question is, since I've
- 10:28Speaker 7: been back since 2017, I have noticed the over-policing in
- 10:31Speaker 7: our neighborhoods, especially during Juneteenth. I myself was attending an
- 10:36Speaker 7: event in Lancaster, and our event was closed down two
- 10:38Speaker 7: hours prior to it actually ending. We were doing nothing.
- 10:42Speaker 7: We were just having a very joyous occasion, and yet
- 10:44Speaker 7: we were told to leave. without even giving a proper explanation.
- 10:49Speaker 7: Ever since that Trump had ended the investigations into civil
- 10:54Speaker 7: rights investigations, police investigations, the craziness in this country has
- 10:58Speaker 7: gotten worse. Our people have been getting killed left and right.
- 11:01Speaker 7: Carmela Anthony's case is just a tragedy.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Excuse my language.
- 11:06Speaker 2: But it is.
- 11:07Speaker 7: But it is. So what are we going to do
- 11:09Speaker 7: to fix those harms? There should be no reason why
- 11:11Speaker 7: I can't go to a cookout and enjoy myself amongst
- 11:15Speaker 7: my people. I have more trauma from living here, coming
- 11:19Speaker 7: back here, than I did when I was in Bahrain, Kuwait, Afghanistan.
- 11:24Speaker 7: And that's the anxiety. That's what I was most worried about.
- 11:28Speaker 7: I came back here because my family is here for
- 11:30Speaker 7: my son so he can get to know them. But
- 11:32Speaker 7: that was what it's going to be like now when
- 11:34Speaker 7: I'm driving around.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Am I going to get.
- 11:35Speaker 7: harassed by the police and state troopers, and he has
- 11:38Speaker 7: got to stop.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Thank you. Thank you for your question, and thank you
- 11:41Speaker 6: for your service. This is unacceptable. I was proud to
- 11:49Speaker 6: march in Dr. Opale's Walk for Freedom in Fort Worth
- 11:53Speaker 6: for Juneteenth. It was one of the most beautiful celebrations
- 11:58Speaker 6: I've participated in in the whole campaign. So many Texans
- 12:02Speaker 6: showing up, black, white, and brown, all together, marching for justice,
- 12:06Speaker 6: marching for progress, marching for freedom. It was a joyous,
- 12:10Speaker 6: beautiful thing to see. And I'm so sorry that law
- 12:14Speaker 6: enforcement felt the need to shut down a joyous festival
- 12:20Speaker 6: for you in this community. It is unacceptable. Law enforcement
- 12:24Speaker 6: is here to serve us. It is here to protect us.
- 12:29Speaker 6: And too often, we see law enforcement weaponized against black
- 12:34Speaker 6: and brown communities in this state.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Now, what's truly amazing about what all he had to
- 12:39Speaker 3: say there is not only does he take the premise
- 12:42Speaker 3: that all cops are evil, all cops or state troopers
- 12:44Speaker 3: are bad.
- 12:45Speaker 4: It's unacceptable. We should get rid of the cops.
- 12:48Speaker 3: But he does this while also talking about gun control.
- 12:52Speaker 3: He says that you should not have the right to
- 12:54Speaker 3: protect and defend yourself. The same guy that doesn't want
- 12:56Speaker 3: to have police to protect you, to have law and order,
- 13:00Speaker 3: he's saying, oh, by the way, not only do I
- 13:03Speaker 3: not want police, I also don't want you.
- 13:05Speaker 4: To be able to protect and defend yourself.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Tallarico, by the way, this is not a joke, hired
- 13:11Speaker 3: the leader of the group called, I'm going to use
- 13:15Speaker 3: another word, coax, not glocks. And there's a word that
- 13:19Speaker 3: rhymes with coax, okay? And he hired this leader to
- 13:25Speaker 3: lead his gun control portfolio. The group that I just mentioned.
- 13:30Speaker 3: would hand out sex toys to raise awareness about banning guns.
- 13:36Speaker 4: You can't make it up.
- 13:38Speaker 3: That is who Tallarico hired, the leader of Cokes, not Glocks. Okay,
- 13:43Speaker 3: you know the other word there. Put it in there.
- 13:46Speaker 3: And said, hey, you guys, you're doing a great job.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I love what you're doing. You're handing out sex toys
- 13:50Speaker 3: to raise awareness about banning guns. How those two connect
- 13:54Speaker 3: is beyond me. But that's not all. In another clip
- 13:58Speaker 3: from 2019, Tallarica said those who do not support gun
- 14:01Speaker 3: control have, quote, blood on your hands.
- 14:06Speaker 1: If you have encouraged white nationalist rhetoric, if you have
- 14:11Speaker 1: blocked common sense gun safety measures, if you have refused
- 14:15Speaker 1: to expand mental health care, if you have accepted contributions
- 14:20Speaker 1: from dark money groups like the NRA, then you have
- 14:22Speaker 1: blood on your hands.
- 14:24Speaker 4: You have blood on your hands.
- 14:27Speaker 3: So just so you know who the Democrats think should
- 14:29Speaker 3: be in charge, it is a guy that says God
- 14:33Speaker 3: is on his team, God doesn't like cops, and we
- 14:36Speaker 3: should get rid of them. God doesn't like guns, and
- 14:40Speaker 3: we should get rid of them. And if you don't
- 14:41Speaker 3: agree with him, not only are you going against God,
- 14:43Speaker 3: but you have blood on your hands. This is who
- 14:48Speaker 3: the Democrats have running in Texas. During an appearance, by
- 14:52Speaker 3: the way, on Unity Over Division podcast, Tower Rico said,
- 14:56Speaker 3: Second Amendment is not absolute. Going further, saying, I believe
- 15:00Speaker 3: in the Second Amendment just as much as I believe
- 15:01Speaker 3: in the First. We have a right to bear arms
- 15:03Speaker 3: to protect ourselves, our families. We have a right to
- 15:06Speaker 3: own weapons for sport or for hunting.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I don't have a right to own weapons to protect
- 15:11Speaker 3: and defend my family? Like, who are you to decide
- 15:13Speaker 3: that it's only for sport or hunting? because you just
- 15:17Speaker 3: contradicted yourself. We'll keep going with the interview. He said, quote,
- 15:20Speaker 3: but like any freedom in the Bill of Rights, it
- 15:23Speaker 3: is not absolute.
- 15:24Speaker 4: So there it is.
- 15:25Speaker 3: If God tells him that things should be out of
- 15:26Speaker 3: the Bill of Rights, apparently James Tallarico thinks he can
- 15:29Speaker 3: just take it out. He also said you have a
- 15:31Speaker 3: freedom to assemble to protest, You need a permit. You
- 15:36Speaker 3: need a permit. Oh, so I have to get my rights.
- 15:40Speaker 3: What happens if he denies my permit? Do I then
- 15:43Speaker 3: lose my right to say what I believe in if
- 15:46Speaker 3: he's the senator from Texas? If I disagree with a
- 15:50Speaker 3: liberal on the city council or the county commissioner or
- 15:52Speaker 3: the board of aldermen or the mayor's office, do I
- 15:55Speaker 3: have a right to protest? Or only if they give
- 15:58Speaker 3: me their permit that says now you can go out
- 16:00Speaker 3: there and now you can protest. This is who James
- 16:04Speaker 3: Tallarico is. He is being haunted by his own words.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I want to play one more thing for you. Last
- 16:10Speaker 3: night on Laura Ingraham's show, she put a montage together
- 16:14Speaker 3: and some points she made. And I want you to
- 16:16Speaker 3: hear what she said about Tallarico. The same thing that
- 16:19Speaker 3: I want you to remember from what I said.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Listen.
- 16:21Speaker 8: On the kind of shoulder length wig and a more
- 16:24Speaker 8: prominent nose. And James Tallarico is the Abigail Spanberger of Texas.
- 16:30Speaker 8: Just like Open Borders Abby, he's a wild eyed radical
- 16:34Speaker 8: posing as something less threatening, something almost mystical.
- 16:39Speaker 6: In one of my favorite poems, the Islamic mystic Hafiz
- 16:44Speaker 6: says that we are all invited to join that dance.
- 16:48Speaker 6: He says, every child has known God, not the God
- 16:52Speaker 6: of names, not the God of don'ts, but the God
- 16:56Speaker 6: who only knows four words and keeps repeating them, saying, come.
- 17:02Speaker 9: Dance with me.
- 17:03Speaker 8: Come dance with me? With Tallarico a senator, Texas would
- 17:07Speaker 8: be dancing all right into economic Armageddon. In newly unearthed
- 17:12Speaker 8: video from a 2020 environmental event, we see and we
- 17:16Speaker 8: hear exactly what Tallarico believes.
- 17:21Speaker 9: I am so thankful that you asked this question and
- 17:23Speaker 9: also thankful that young activists have really drawn the link
- 17:26Speaker 9: between climate change and white supremacy and capitalism in our country.
- 17:31Speaker 9: And I think only ending the ways that all three
- 17:34Speaker 9: of those oppressive systems work together are we going to
- 17:36Speaker 9: be able to begin the process of dismantling them.
- 17:39Speaker 8: Capitalism and white supremacy, that's a winner in Texas. And
- 17:42Speaker 8: about the oil and gas industry, which supports 1.4 million
- 17:46Speaker 8: Texas jobs, generates about $ 27 billion in tax revenue every year.
- 17:51Speaker 8: In that video obtained by CNN from that same event,
- 17:54Speaker 8: Tallarico compared being a leader in oil and gas, which
- 17:58Speaker 8: Texas is, to being a leader in cassette tapes in
- 18:02Speaker 8: the 1980s. He said, quote, that industry is not going
- 18:06Speaker 8: to last. Now, the Tallarico campaign gave us written responses
- 18:11Speaker 8: lengthy to his demeaning cassette tape comments about fossil fuels,
- 18:15Speaker 8: essentially disavowing them, saying he supports the oil and gas
- 18:19Speaker 8: industry and that he merely believes in an all of
- 18:22Speaker 8: the above energy strategy. And as for his arrogant dismissiveness
- 18:26Speaker 8: of capitalism, comparing it to white supremacy, his team told
- 18:30Speaker 8: us that James is a proud capitalist, but reiterated that
- 18:34Speaker 8: he missed the mark on some of his past statements.
- 18:36Speaker 8: He added that Texas also needs to address racism, natural
- 18:41Speaker 8: disasters and a billionaire controlled economy. Voters are going to
- 18:45Speaker 8: have to decide if they want to take a flyer
- 18:48Speaker 8: on this guy. But why would they want to trust
- 18:51Speaker 8: anyone who's ever used the words white supremacy and capitalism
- 18:55Speaker 8: in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence? The
- 18:59Speaker 8: truth is, Tallarico's views are way outside the sensible middle
- 19:03Speaker 8: in America, let alone in the Lone Star State. And
- 19:07Speaker 8: instead of addressing legitimate questions about his expressed views about
- 19:11Speaker 8: capitalism and the oil industry, Tallarico deflects.
- 19:16Speaker 6: They're going to claim that this new dream is radical.
