- 1:24a personal story.
- 1:26It's something we need to be able to
- 1:28live our lives and really enjoy them.
- 1:30Otherwise, the moment just sort of passes away.
- 1:34All right, guys, without any further ado, I'd
- 1:37like to go ahead and kick this show
- 1:39off.
- 1:39This is Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:42And when direction changes because truth gets revealed,
- 1:47series five, show 18, episode number one, that,
- 1:53ladies and gentlemen, is our, yes, that is
- 1:56a very, very important, you guessed it, guys.
- 2:00Yes, you know what it is.
- 2:01That is our, that is our granular topic.
- 2:07Actually, the master topic for the week is
- 2:11that.
- 2:12And the granular topic is when you realize
- 2:14you were limiting your own growth, series five,
- 2:18show 18, episode number one.
- 2:20I was getting a little tongue tied there,
- 2:21but that's okay.
- 2:23Again, it's so great to be with everyone
- 2:25here.
- 2:25And so Saturday means we're starting a brand
- 2:28new master topic.
- 2:29This episode of Inspirations for Your Life with
- 2:33myself, John C.
- 2:34Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:38podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 2:43lifelong learner.
- 2:44And now, guys, very proud to be a
- 2:47published author, is exploring how transformation begins the
- 2:52moment truth breaks through assumptions.
- 2:54Now, ladies and gentlemen, this is not about
- 2:57motivation itself.
- 2:59This is about a realization because real change
- 3:03starts when awareness replaces assumption.
- 3:06And what felt stable is suddenly questioned.
- 3:10Most people limit themselves without realizing it's because
- 3:13familiar thinking feels safe even when it's no
- 3:17longer effective.
- 3:20Yeah, that's a very important thing I hope
- 3:25all of us can grow to appreciate and
- 3:29take the moment to really explore and enjoy
- 3:33life.
- 3:33I think that's something that a lot of
- 3:35people miss in life.
- 3:36They rush through everything so quickly.
- 3:39And then they wonder why life is going
- 3:42the way it is.
- 3:43OK, so let's dive right into the first
- 3:46point and change starts when assumptions break.
- 3:50OK, could be good, could be bad.
- 3:53Comfort often hides the truth.
- 3:57Familiar patterns delay.
- 3:58Number three, awareness.
- 4:01So when we are, for lack of better
- 4:03term, just doing things like doing the motions,
- 4:06we're not really sure why or how we're
- 4:09doing something.
- 4:10I think that's a very important thing to
- 4:13realize that that's going on.
- 4:17And so these are very important things to
- 4:21know.
- 4:22And I know that you're probably saying to
- 4:24me, John, you know, this doesn't make a
- 4:25lot of sense.
- 4:26But I want to tell you, it makes
- 4:28plenty of sense.
- 4:29And the reason it makes sense is that
- 4:30awareness helps us gain a very, very big
- 4:34perspective.
- 4:36OK, it's never too late to become aware.
- 4:39So, again, familiar patterns delay awareness because we're
- 4:42like, oh, it's safe, it's comfortable.
- 4:44But I told you success doesn't lie where
- 4:46it's comfortable.
- 4:47Number four, guys, stability can mask limitation.
- 4:52Yeah, when somebody's stable, when something's going perfectly,
- 4:55we don't think there's a reason that we
- 4:57need to change.
- 4:58But actually, the opposite is true.
- 5:00When things are going too smoothly, we have
- 5:02to make sure that we're enjoying the moment,
- 5:05that we're not getting hidden, OK?
- 5:09That's important, guys.
- 5:12That's a very, very important thing to, you
- 5:16know, to understand.
- 5:18And number five, guys, what feels normal?
- 5:21OK, what do I mean by normal?
- 5:23Normal is like the everyday course reaction.
- 5:26I don't like to say the word normal
- 5:27and saying, well, gee, are you normal, you're
- 5:29not normal.
- 5:30Does it follow the everyday expectation?
- 5:33That's what normal means.
- 5:35And what feels normal may not be optimal,
- 5:38even though you might say, John, well, you
- 5:41know, this is what I'm used to.
- 5:42Yeah, it's what you're comfortable with.
- 5:45OK, and that's a that's a problem, right?
- 5:48That's a big, big problem.
- 5:51And you're wondering why.
- 5:54And that's a big question.
- 5:58Yep, that's important.
- 6:01And I want to tell you that if
- 6:03we don't understand this, then we have to
- 6:09first start realizing why we're not getting the
- 6:13results that we've expected in life.
- 6:15It's not because we're not smart or anything
- 6:18like that.
- 6:18We're all smart.
- 6:19It's because we become too comfortable in the
- 6:22patterns in which we are now allowing to
- 6:24run our life.
- 6:26So I'm going to say this again, what
- 6:27feels normal, what you're doing every day, which
- 6:30just expected may not be the optimal way
- 6:34for your life.
- 6:34Number six, guys, repetition builds invisible structure.
- 6:41Repetition builds invisible structure.
- 6:43So.
- 6:45That's key, because when we repeat something over
- 6:49and over and over and over again, you
- 6:51know what happens?
- 6:52Well, we just sort of go around this
- 6:54mulberry bush.
- 6:56And we wonder why we're not getting a
- 6:59change.
- 7:02You know, Einstein said this a long time
- 7:04ago, you do the same thing over and
- 7:05over again.
- 7:05You don't get different results by doing the
- 7:08same thing over and over again.
- 7:09You just don't, guys.
- 7:11You do not get you just don't get
- 7:13it.
- 7:14You don't get the results.
- 7:17And the reason you don't get the results
- 7:19is because you're not changing anything, guys.
- 7:23You're not changing anything in your life.
- 7:27And that's a very important thing to actually
- 7:31understand.
- 7:33OK, very, very important thing to understand, because
- 7:38when we understand this, our life sort of
- 7:42takes it takes a different turn, guys.
- 7:45It takes a different turn.
- 7:48And that different turn is something that a
- 7:50lot of people say, you know what, John,
- 7:51I don't really know why or how that's
- 7:54happening.
- 7:55Right.
- 7:56I don't know how or why that is
- 7:59happening.
- 8:01And you might say to me, John, like,
- 8:04how is that even possible?
- 8:06Right.
- 8:08How is that even possible?
- 8:13And I want to ask you really clearly,
- 8:16why is it that we get stuck in
- 8:18these patterns?
- 8:19I think the reason we get so stuck
- 8:22in these patterns is because, well, they're they're
- 8:28a big challenge.
- 8:31And these challenges are not meant to cause
- 8:36a problem.
- 8:38But yet.
- 8:39They do sometimes.
- 8:42And then we're on the side saying, gee,
- 8:44well, how do I do this?
- 8:45How do I do that?
- 8:46How do I get back what I need
- 8:48in my life?
- 8:49How do I get back that?
- 8:52And that might be something that you don't
- 8:54really understand in your life.
- 8:57Right.
- 8:57You don't really understand like what that means.
- 9:01And you might be saying to me, John,
- 9:04yeah, this is great, but the question I
- 9:06have for you is, is it really great
- 9:10or is it something that you're just, like
- 9:13I said, going through the motions about?
- 9:16So these are all, you know, very, very
- 9:18important things that a lot of people become.
- 9:23Well, they become frustrated with them.
- 9:26That's number one.
- 9:27Number eight, behavior defines direction.
- 9:31Behavior defines direction.
- 9:33So how you behave defines how you're going
- 9:36to be, how you're going to coexist in
- 9:39the world.
- 9:41All right.
- 9:42I think that's a very important one to
- 9:46to know.
- 9:48Right.
- 9:51Maybe you're wondering why something is a certain
- 9:55way, but then again, maybe you're saying, John,
- 10:00this doesn't make sense.
- 10:03And the reason it doesn't make sense, I'm
- 10:05going to tell you why it doesn't make
- 10:06sense.
- 10:07It's because you're expecting a different result, but
- 10:11you're not changing anything.
- 10:14You're not changing anything.
- 10:16And that, ladies and gentlemen, can be a
- 10:20very, very big, big problem.
- 10:25Because you're not changing anything.
- 10:29And that's something that a lot of you
- 10:31say, well, you know, I got to push
- 10:32harder, you know, I got to put more
- 10:34hours and I got I've got to push.
- 10:37But really, guys, that's not what the secret
- 10:40is.
- 10:42It's not the secret.
- 10:44So we need to get clear with what
- 10:46these things mean in our life.
- 10:48And when we can get clear.
- 10:52Life will change.
- 10:56Life will change again, I don't want to
- 10:58tell you it's going to change overnight because
- 11:00it's not going to change overnight, I'm going
- 11:02to tell you that right now, it is
- 11:04not going to change overnight.
- 11:07OK, I mean, that's just that's just the
- 11:09bottom line, right?
- 11:11It's not going to change overnight.
- 11:14And it won't change overnight, it will change
- 11:17with an awareness, guys.
- 11:20An awareness, OK, an awareness that means you
- 11:28are going to be better than you expected
- 11:30you could be.
- 11:33Let's jump to number nine.
- 11:35Direction defines the outcomes.
- 11:41You set a direction, you set an address
- 11:43in your GPS and guess what?
- 11:45You're suddenly going that way.
- 11:50Number 10.
- 11:52Most people never question patterns, they just live
- 11:56them, they just push through them and they
- 11:58don't understand why these patterns are like that.
- 12:03They don't understand the why.
- 12:06And that why is very interesting, guys.
- 12:10Right.
- 12:11It's an interesting way, but does it mean
- 12:15anything directly?
- 12:18And guess what I got to tell you?
- 12:20No.
- 12:21See, you just keep doing the same pattern.
- 12:24The only thing it means is that you're
- 12:27not going to get any difference, you're not
- 12:28going to get any difference in your life.
- 12:32And I think that's a very I think
- 12:34that's a very, very important thing to to
- 12:38realize or to, I should say, to understand.
- 12:41You're not going to get what that is
- 12:44in your life, you're just not going to
- 12:46get it.
- 12:48And I don't say that to be harsh
- 12:49or to be mean to anybody.
- 12:51I say that because you have to understand
- 12:55what you're doing.
- 12:57As I said, most people never question the
- 12:59patterns.
- 12:59Number 11.
- 13:00Exposure will force new thinking.
- 13:03It will cause you to change how you
- 13:06are by the exposure, but the exposure one
- 13:10time won't do it.
- 13:11Got to get some water here, guys.
- 13:12Just one exposure won't do it, won't get
- 13:16you to change.
- 13:17Number 12, guys, old labels.
- 13:20Stop making sense.
- 13:23They stop making sense, suddenly shouldn't have labels
- 13:28for anything anyway, but what you assigned or
- 13:31what you categorize something is not what it
- 13:33is anymore.
- 13:35Number 13, guys, identity begins to loosen, identity
- 13:40begins to loosen.
- 13:41I think that's a real interesting perspective.
- 13:44Taking us to our next point, number 14,
- 13:47perspective starts to shift.
- 13:49Perspective starts to shift.
- 13:53That's a big wow moment, guys.
- 13:56Perspective starts to shift.
- 14:03When a perspective shifts, it's like.
- 14:07We can't unknow or unlearn this new piece
- 14:11of information.
- 14:12Number 15, guys, beliefs begin to get challenged
- 14:17when a belief gets challenged, what happens?
- 14:20Some people put up their mental or their
- 14:22physical wall like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 14:24But it's because they are afraid of not
- 14:29being comfortable because it's going to push them.
- 14:32That's a problem.
- 14:35Number 16, guys, mental models lose rigidity.
- 14:40Mental models lose rigidity.
- 14:43That's important.
- 14:46Awareness introduces discomfort.
- 14:48Number 17, awareness introduces discomfort and you got
- 14:51to get used to discomfort because discomfort is
- 14:55where the success actually starts to lie.
- 14:59You've got to get uncomfortable.
- 15:02You got to practice getting comfortable, being uncomfortable.
- 15:06Let me say that again.
- 15:07You got to practice being uncomfortable.
- 15:13So you got to be practicing being comfortable,
- 15:16getting uncomfortable.
- 15:17Yeah, I know that's a little bit of
- 15:19a tongue-tier, so you got to practice
- 15:20getting comfortable, being uncomfortable.
- 15:23Number 18, guys, discomfort signals growth, but the
- 15:30growth doesn't pour in like immediately, it trickles
- 15:35in.
- 15:36It gives us an awareness.
- 15:37It gives us a new insight.
- 15:40Number 20, guys, resistance reveals attachment.
- 15:47Now, I've said this many times before, when
- 15:50we detach from something, it no longer controls,
- 15:57it no longer has an empowerment over us,
- 16:00it no longer has that, and I think
- 16:03that's a very important thing for a lot
- 16:05of people to know, it no longer has
- 16:08that ability.
- 16:12And the reason it doesn't have that ability
- 16:14is because we're not part of it.
- 16:20And by our choice of not being part
- 16:22of something is a huge, huge, huge benefit,
- 16:29a huge benefit, not a small benefit, guys,
- 16:32a huge benefit, and that huge benefit can
- 16:35make a big difference.
- 16:38But only if we're willing to detach.
- 16:42Now, let me see if I can give
- 16:43an example.
- 16:44So maybe you're having a challenge with somebody,
- 16:49could be a friend, acquaintance, what have you.
- 16:52But you feel like that person is dragging
- 16:55you in all the time.
- 16:55You feel like you can't say no to
- 16:57that person.
- 16:57I'm going to tell you why you can't
- 16:59say no to that person.
- 17:00It's because you're too attached to them.
- 17:02Now, I'm not saying physically, I'm saying your
- 17:06mindset being too attached.
- 17:08When you detach, it doesn't have to be
- 17:09a person, it could be things.
- 17:11Let's say you were so into an exercise,
- 17:16right?
- 17:16But you were detached from it, it wouldn't
- 17:18control you.
- 17:19If there's an activity, a person, or a
- 17:21thing, and you detach from it, it no
- 17:26longer has power over you.
- 17:28It no longer has power over you.
- 17:33That's a very interesting thought, but it's truthful.
- 17:39It's truthful.
- 17:41If you want something to have more meaning
- 17:43to you, you can attach to it, but
- 17:44be careful because when you attach, it will
- 17:46control you.
- 17:48So just detach from something and you'll see
- 17:51how much it won't control you anymore.
- 17:54Number 21, guys, growth begins with discomfort.
- 17:59I said this before, but the problem is
- 18:01most people don't want to take the discomfort.
- 18:15Most people don't want to have the discomfort.
- 18:19Even though the discomfort might be minor, maybe
- 18:25it might be minor.
- 18:27Maybe, but people are afraid.
- 18:31They don't know what that's going to be.
- 18:44They're afraid.
- 18:45So they'd rather hide.
- 18:47They'd rather not do something than risk being
- 18:51uncomfortable.
- 18:56Let me ask you a question.
- 18:57Everything you've done in your life, has everything
- 19:00been comfortable the first time you tried it?
- 19:03No.
- 19:04Maybe you played sports.
- 19:05Was it comfortable the first time?
- 19:08And if you tell me no, I know
- 19:10you're lying.
- 19:11But when something is uncomfortable, we are in
- 19:15the learning stage of it, guys.
- 19:18We're learning it.
- 19:20We're doing our very best, but we're learning
- 19:23it right now.
- 19:24That's a key, key point.
- 19:28A very, very key point.
- 19:31All right.
- 19:33Let's move on to our next point.
- 19:35Fear.
- 19:37False evidence appearing real, protects our old identity.
- 19:41This is why people fight for a change,
- 19:45to not change, I should say.
- 19:47They're afraid of losing who they are.
- 19:50And they don't know what the new idea
- 19:53is going to be.
- 19:58They're afraid they might have to be completely
- 20:02different.
- 20:03And they don't know if they can do
- 20:05that or not.
- 20:06So they'd rather just stay on the side
- 20:08of the grass or the fence.
- 20:09That's easy.
- 20:10That's comfortable.
- 20:10That's not bogging people.
- 20:13Number 23, guys.
- 20:25So when you resist, what you have persists
- 20:30and you can't grow.
- 20:34You just keep running into more walls.
- 20:38More walls day in and day out.
- 20:41All because you don't have an open mind.
- 20:49You don't have an open mind.
- 20:54It's not because you can't have an open
- 20:55mind.
- 20:56It's because you don't.
- 21:00It's because you don't have an open mind.
- 21:02But you could change that.
- 21:05You could allow that resistance to literally fall
- 21:09away.
- 21:10And what you will find is that when
- 21:12you let that resistance drop.
- 21:16You'll be more productive.
- 21:18You'll be using less energy.
- 21:21You'll be more peaceful.
- 21:22You'll enjoy life a lot better.
- 21:25Number 24, guys.
- 21:28Clarity begins replacing confusion.
- 21:31Clarity begins replacing confusion.
- 21:34If we can replace confusion, then we can
- 21:40obviously become more successful.
- 21:45When clarity is the factor of us doing
- 21:49what we want to do, we've got to
- 21:53get clear.
- 21:54I'll give you a quick story.
- 21:56I was in Toastmasters, went pretty much up
- 21:59the chain there.
- 22:00And I remember having to do one of
- 22:03the books.
- 22:03And I remember that I was ahead.
- 22:05But then I remember there was one part
- 22:07that was confusing.
- 22:08So I let it sit for a while.
- 22:10I was talking to one of the leaders.
- 22:12And I said, gee, I said, where are
- 22:13you?
- 22:13I said, well, I can't get this one
- 22:15piece done.
- 22:16He said, what's the problem?
- 22:17I don't understand what they want.
- 22:20He said, oh, yeah, I had the same
- 22:21problem.
- 22:22That new book is very confusing.
- 22:23The old book was a lot clearer.
- 22:24I said, oh, explain it to me.
- 22:27I figured out what I had to do.
- 22:29Next week I did it and I was
- 22:30done.
- 22:32We allow confusion to obfuscate what we have
- 22:41to do.
- 22:42It doesn't need to be encrypted.
- 22:45But we make it that way.
- 22:47We make it harder than what it really
- 22:48is.
- 22:49Number 25, guys, hidden patterns become visible.
- 22:53They do.
- 22:55You can try to hide all you want.
- 22:58But that eventually will come to the top.
- 23:01What do they always say with a cup
- 23:02of coffee or tea?
- 23:04The cream will rise to the top.
- 23:07And so will your hidden patterns.
- 23:09They will not stay hidden forever.
- 23:12They won't stay hidden forever.
- 23:14That's true.
- 23:15Number 26, guys, misinterpretation gets corrected.
- 23:21What did I tell you about the Toastmasters
- 23:23thing?
- 23:24Anything can be corrected if you want to
- 23:27do it.
- 23:28If you don't, it will just stay a
- 23:31mess.
- 23:33It will just stay in this endless loop.
- 23:37This reminds me of a thing we learned
- 23:40in programming many years ago called the endless
- 23:42loop.
- 23:43And if we don't have something that checks
- 23:46to make sure that the loop can never
- 23:49end, the loop could run forever and ever
- 23:50and ever and ever and ever and ever
- 23:52and ever and never stop.
- 23:54But we have to put checks in there
- 23:56to make sure that the loop can end.
- 24:01Number 27, guys, awareness replaces judgment.
- 24:05Our awareness replaces judgment.
- 24:07When we're aware of something, we're less likely
- 24:10to judge.
- 24:11We're less likely to judge.
- 24:15Number 28, guys, understanding starts forming.
- 24:21Understanding starts forming.
- 24:23And when the understanding starts forming, we as
- 24:26a person change who we are.
- 24:30But I want to tell you this does
- 24:31not happen overnight.
- 24:33Let me say that again.
- 24:35This does not happen overnight.
- 24:39It doesn't.
- 24:43It doesn't happen overnight.
- 24:46Number 29, guys, new insight changes belief.
- 24:49So when you have a new perception, when
- 24:52you learn something, it'll change your perspective.
- 24:57It'll change your belief.
- 24:58It'll even change the way you do something.
- 25:01But once you know something, you can't go
- 25:03back to unknowing it.
- 25:06Right?
- 25:06If you know that a certain food is
- 25:08bad for you, you can't go back and
- 25:09unknow that that food is suddenly good for
- 25:11you.
- 25:12No.
- 25:13Once you learn that secret ingredient, that secret
- 25:17thing that you've been missing, once you learn
- 25:20it, and it's something you don't like, you
- 25:23can't get rid of it.
- 25:25You can't unlearn it.
- 25:27Number 30, guys, identity begins reconstructing when you
- 25:33finally see clearly.
- 25:35You cannot return to how you saw or
- 25:39heard before, which is what I'm trying to
- 25:40tell you.
- 25:42What you discover, whether it's from yourself or
- 25:46from others, you can't go back and unlearn
- 25:48that fact.
- 25:50See, guys, this is a key moment.
- 25:54That is the time where we have transformation,
- 25:58which starts to begin.
- 25:59Now, not through a brutal force, but through
- 26:02a very subtle awareness that changes our own
- 26:06interpretation.
- 26:07And once our interpretation changes, guess what happens,
- 26:12ladies and gentlemen?
- 26:14Our direction follows.
- 26:16Our direction changes if it's not in that
- 26:18direction.
- 26:19See, this, ladies and gentlemen, is the foundation
- 26:21of inspirations for your life.
- 26:23It's not just motivation.
- 26:25It's not hype, okay?
- 26:28But it's clarity that leads to lasting change.
- 26:32Once truth is seen, it cannot be unseen.
- 26:37Or I should say, once truth is learned,
- 26:40it cannot be unlearned.
- 26:41And once, ladies and gentlemen, it cannot be
- 26:45unseen, direction becomes intentional.
- 26:53Intentional life starts with purpose.
- 26:58Intentional life and purpose comes from a clear
- 27:02direction, a knowing.
- 27:08And when we get that, we're able to
- 27:11say, wait a minute, now I understand.
- 27:14Now I see why this didn't work before.
- 27:18I was approaching it in a completely different
- 27:21way, not the way I should have.
- 27:26But then you notice something.
- 27:28This wasn't as hard as I thought it
- 27:30was going to be.
- 27:32But we make things harder than they actually
- 27:34are because we're creatures of habit.
- 27:38We are afraid to change.
- 27:41One of the hardest things to get humans
- 27:42to do is to change.
- 27:43You have to prove to them that there's
- 27:45a reason, ladies and gentlemen, to stay driven.
- 27:49You have to prove them that there's a
- 27:50reason to get up.
- 27:51You have to prove them that there's a
- 27:53reason to continue on.
- 27:55Ladies and gentlemen, you can catch more of
- 27:57all this great information and free resources at
- 28:00BelieveMeAchieved.com.
- 28:02And I hope that you've learned something to
- 28:06realize that to have a successful life, that
- 28:08you'll always want to enjoy and share and
- 28:12do so much with, is you've got to
- 28:15make sure every moment is intentional.
- 28:16Have yourself a great one, everyone.
- 28:18I'll catch you real soon.
- 28:18Be well.
