- 1:46This, this, this week, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:48Boy, I tell you, it's been been a while since I've remembered a
- 1:52summer just quite this hot and I've been living in Tennessee
- 1:55for nigh on to 20 years and yeah, it's it's it's just been
- 2:01been rough. I'm going to be so happy when
- 2:03the summer months are are in the rearview mirror, you know, but
- 2:09you know it is what it is and be sure that you guys are staying
- 2:12hydrated. Stay cool as best you can and be
- 2:16safe out there. So we got a fun episode I think
- 2:20today and and here's kind of a funny preface to do that before
- 2:24we get into the topic. I this is the second time that
- 2:28I've shot this episode or I filmed this episode because the
- 2:33first time that I filmed it, I went to go into post production
- 2:40and start working on, you know, getting the everything spliced
- 2:44up and and edited how I like it to get ready to release today.
- 2:48And I start listening to the video because that's what I do.
- 2:51I listen through it. I don't, you know, and I didn't
- 2:54hear anything. All right?
- 2:55I heard like background music, like you hear kind of, you know,
- 2:58softly in the background here. But I was watching my mouth move
- 3:02and there was nothing coming out of it.
- 3:05And I'm like, well, let me refresh or something.
- 3:09And then I realized that at one point during the episode, I
- 3:13looked at my streaming or my recording software and it was
- 3:22muted, My microphone was muted and I and it was like 30 minutes
- 3:27of the episode that I had nothing coming out of my mouth,
- 3:31like I was talking but you wouldn't have been able to hear
- 3:33it. And then I caught it cuz I
- 3:34looked over and I saw like I had a slash through my microphone
- 3:37and I said, Oh no, maybe I just cuz I thought I maybe had like
- 3:41bumped it and it was, you know, a few seconds.
- 3:45So I like backed up my sentence and and realized that after the
- 3:50fact that, you know, a whole hour's worth of the episode was
- 3:55only half audible or, you know, you can only hear half of it.
- 4:00So I had to scratch that file and say start over.
- 4:04So that's kind of funny. But the, you know, in a way like
- 4:10you think about why things happen.
- 4:13You know, there's a reason that way things happen at least the
- 4:16way a lot of times that way. I look at things as you know,
- 4:19there's a reason behind stuff. And that was not an episode that
- 4:25as much as I thought it was, was well put together, you know,
- 4:28just it wouldn't, wouldn't what it was supposed to be.
- 4:31So hopefully this one is better and you guys enjoy it because
- 4:35today's episode is another viewer request and this comes to
- 4:42the podcast via way of our hotline, the midworm music's
- 4:49hotline, the phone number that I encourage everybody to call if
- 4:53you have thoughts or ideas. And this request, it was a bit
- 4:58of a drawn out one. We're gonna hear a little bit
- 5:00today from this person who calls in or who called in last week
- 5:06because when you leave a voicemail on the hotline, like
- 5:09you've got 3 minutes to to to say what you want to say and
- 5:13then it'll cut off. So if you want to say more,
- 5:16you've got to call back in and finish what you were saying and
- 5:19leave another voicemail. Well, this, this individual, she
- 5:21called back four times and left four different voicemails.
- 5:26So we've got, you know, about 12 minutes worth of of a of a
- 5:30voicemail to listen to or I did. We're not going to listen to all
- 5:34of it. We're going to listen to about
- 5:36half or so I'd say, because like I'd say maybe the first half
- 5:41was, there's just, you know, whenever you guys and I don't
- 5:45want to make sure that I say this now, whenever when I say,
- 5:48you know, please call in and stuff, I'm always eager to put
- 5:52your voice on the air and unless you tell me otherwise, right.
- 5:55So if you call in and you say, look, this is just for you, you
- 5:59can use this topic for your content if you want, but please
- 6:04don't put my voice on the air, you know, and I'll respect that
- 6:06and I won't, But I'm going to assume that if you call in that
- 6:09it, then it's going to be okay for me to put your voice on the
- 6:12air. However, I do always prescreen
- 6:14the the voicemails that you leave just to make sure that
- 6:18there's nothing on there that could be potentially revealing
- 6:23of information, whether personal or otherwise, that could be
- 6:29potentially harmful if it got into the ears or out here on the
- 6:35Internet. So I always want you guys to
- 6:36know that if you call in, even if you don't say you know, don't
- 6:41put this recording out. If you don't do that, I will
- 6:44always prescreen the recordings of the voicemail and make sure
- 6:47that there's nothing that is shared on the voicemail that
- 6:50could you in harm's way or anyone else in harm's way.
- 6:56And so you know, with an interest of that I there's
- 7:00there's going to be some topics that come up here that we're
- 7:05going to be listening to today. And I want to just give all of
- 7:08our listeners and viewers a trigger warning because we're
- 7:10going to be hearing some things about trauma, PTSD and and
- 7:17topics that are going to circulate around like human
- 7:21trafficking, okay. So fair warning, trigger
- 7:23warning, right. I want you guys to be aware that
- 7:26what we're going to be hearing today is contain some topic
- 7:30subject matter on that topic. And for that reason I did not
- 7:35want to play all 12 minutes of this recording because it
- 7:38contains A person's name and it also contains, you know,
- 7:41information of of of a workplace.
- 7:44So with that being said, we're going to refrain from using this
- 7:48person's name that they left on their voicemail and call them by
- 7:53the name of the topic of today's video.
- 7:56Now this person she calls in and we're about to hear some of what
- 8:01she has to say, but it's on the topic of Sigan.
- 8:06Sigan is one of the goddess dimension in the lore in the
- 8:10Norse mythology and she is the wife of Loki.
- 8:15Some of you that have been even and and maybe Pagan for any
- 8:18length of time know the story of Loki and and and how Sigan is a
- 8:25part of the story. There's not a lot of information
- 8:28in the myth about her, but before we we talk more about the
- 8:33story, I do want to take the time to play this half of the
- 8:40voicemail. So again, for the sake of
- 8:44keeping people's identity safe and you know, the topic at hand
- 8:48and making sure that everyone stays safe, we're going to call
- 8:52her Sigan. So Sigan calls in to the podcast
- 8:57last week and left a really heartfelt, you know, message or
- 9:03messages. So go ahead and you know, listen
- 9:07to that recording here. Let me get the file pulled up
- 9:11here. And we're going to listen to see
- 9:12what Sigan has to say. Let's see here 1-2 and three.
- 9:18All right, so here we go. By the way, this is the the
- 9:22third of four recordings. I didn't.
- 9:25I'm not including the first two because again, don't want to
- 9:31reveal information that could put someone in harm's way.
- 9:35So anyway, here we go. This is the third okay.
- 9:39So yeah. So thank you tons and millions
- 9:44and you're welcome. I really do appreciate it too
- 9:52and my okay. So I do have a question and.
- 9:58And the question is, you know, it's about trauma.
- 10:04I spoke, I'm 34 and when I was at 15, I was basically human
- 10:16trafficked. And it wasn't like a sexual
- 10:20thing. It was.
- 10:20I was, I was forced to be forced labor.
- 10:22And then, I mean, it was sexual things.
- 10:25With one person who was 36 when I was 13, let me just say real
- 10:33quick, guys, again, you know, I gave the trigger warning.
- 10:36You know, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that people, first
- 10:42of all, have to endure things like this.
- 10:45You know, innocent people have to endure things like this in
- 10:47their lives and that this is even a thing and a very recent
- 10:51thing. You know, you hear about stuff
- 10:52like what is mentioning and it's like you would think that that
- 10:57is a long, long time ago. That doesn't happen anymore.
- 11:01It does happen. It happens still.
- 11:04I'm very sorry for what happened.
- 11:06So let's hear. Some more basically, I found
- 11:12evenly when I was 18, about 17 I'd say, and I escaped that
- 11:18situation. Got with my high school low,
- 11:22which was who I'm with right now.
- 11:24Married 13 years and we're both eating and pretty much my
- 11:32question is about, so I just, I don't know.
- 11:40I want to see more content on her.
- 11:45You know it. I have a lot I could say on on
- 11:52this. Subject I.
- 11:58I don't even know what my question is.
- 11:59It's so crazy. Like it's just like feeling part
- 12:01of the words. And I have a I have a hard time
- 12:06thinking of her and like, disconnecting her for myself,
- 12:11like my own personal experiences.
- 12:14But she's basically the only one.
- 12:18I've ever like, like, honored. I mean, all honor, all the gods.
- 12:26What I'm saying is she's the only one that's ever, like, not
- 12:29spoken to me, but like, I don't know how to explain it.
- 12:34But yeah, I would say resonate. You know that's a goddess that
- 12:41resonates with you, that is important to you because of the
- 12:44things that you've gone through now.
- 12:48Venerating multiple deities, right?
- 12:50Being a polytheist, as as as most heathens are obviously
- 12:54believing in venerating multiple gods and goddesses doesn't
- 12:57necessarily mean that you know you, you venerate all the gods
- 13:00all of the time at the same time, you know that goes into
- 13:03Hearth cult which we talked about on this podcast, you know,
- 13:07previous episodes. But it's okay to have a matron
- 13:11or patron deity, and sounds like Sigin is your matron deity.
- 13:17Yeah, I've taken a lot from her and I've just been nonstop.
- 13:22Victorious, I guess is, I mean, just my journey alone, my health
- 13:27journey, my my story. Me being an advocate for
- 13:31domestic violence and human trafficking and just how
- 13:37fearless I am and my devotion and my courage and everything.
- 13:43Like all these things that I value in myself and that took a
- 13:46long time to. You know, get to.
- 13:50I kind of feel like that was the first of the of the of the, the
- 13:5912, let's see 6 minutes. So the first half of 6 minutes.
- 14:03And I want to say before we go into this next segment of the
- 14:05recording, that fearlessness, right, devotion, dedication,
- 14:11things like that. These are going to be things
- 14:13that when we talk about Sigan the goddess, we are going to
- 14:17hear examples of that. And I'm excited to talk more
- 14:20about that. And I'm also excited to speak on
- 14:23a deity who does not get a lot of media coverage, if you want
- 14:27to call it that, right. Like if you were to go on Google
- 14:29and and and search for information about singing,
- 14:32you're going to find just a couple of scaldic poems where
- 14:36she's referenced maybe a couple of YouTube videos where she's
- 14:41talked about in any great length or detail.
- 14:45But in terms of like historical sources or anything else that we
- 14:49know of, you know her having a place in Scandinavian or
- 14:53Germanic Heathenry is next to nonexistent.
- 14:59She's she's really only mentioned in the poems or in the
- 15:03in the mythology. So, but yeah, definitely, you
- 15:08know, that fearless, that devotion, dedication,
- 15:10faithfulness. You know, we the the title that
- 15:13we call Sigan is Sigan the Faithful.
- 15:16But anyway, let's hear more from the caller.
- 15:18Sigan, this is the last. Message here.
- 15:23Because I'm about to start my run right now, I just did three
- 15:27mile walk and I got to do the rest of the run.
- 15:30So, so on to the sigan question or feeling.
- 15:37I don't know what that is. Anyway so yeah so I I mean
- 15:49obviously you know I have I have trauma from my experience and
- 15:55you know when when I, when I was learning about second story that
- 15:59is the most darkest shit like that okay.
- 16:07Yeah, it is. You know, it is probably one of
- 16:09the most tragic stories in the mythology that we have to that
- 16:13is that is survived. Again, we're going to go into
- 16:16more of the detail of that after the after we listen to the rest
- 16:18of this. And you know, I I took a lot
- 16:23from her because I didn't want to pretty much ruin the rest of
- 16:30my life by getting revenge. Let's just put it that way.
- 16:36And when I reported the person who did what they did to me, I
- 16:42was actually looked at like I was a suspect for the future
- 16:46crime of this person not being alive anymore.
- 16:50And that's very common for people who've been through what
- 16:53I went through, because it's really hard to sleep at night
- 16:59for some people, maybe it's really hard to process and.
- 17:03We don't know what's going on and I was lucky and and that's
- 17:06privileged enough to have doctors, personal trainers.
- 17:10My husband, he was going to school to be a police officer.
- 17:14He had good people around us and that's important.
- 17:17You know, I mean any kind of experience or experiences that
- 17:24people have gone through in their life of such debilitating
- 17:29nature, you know, whether it's physical abuse, mental abuse,
- 17:32sexual abuse, anything like that, that can really mess
- 17:35people up. Having the support system to get
- 17:37help get you through it is, is, is, is paramount.
- 17:40You know a lot of times people who don't have those things are
- 17:44really up against it and and aren't able to get themselves
- 17:47through it. So, so good for you singing for,
- 17:51for having a strong support system.
- 17:54That's great. Glad that you're.
- 17:57I'm glad you're here to tell the story.
- 17:58You know as as hard of a story as it must be to tell.
- 18:03I I have a lot of respect for you to come on to come out and
- 18:08actually talk about it, you know to to to call for all intents
- 18:11and purposes a random stranger. You know what I mean?
- 18:13Somebody who you don't know. We don't know each other and
- 18:15then talk about this in in in this detail.
- 18:20So that's very brave and I have a lot of respect for you for
- 18:24that. Doing, you know, the right
- 18:29things and being around the right people and everybody just
- 18:32got the good head on their shoulders.
- 18:34So I was very lucky. And also I don't think I could
- 18:39hurt a lot for being honest. But anyway, God, I think that
- 18:50but Sigan pretty much singing pretty much man.
- 18:55I just want to see more info on her.
- 18:57Maybe maybe also like just mental.
- 19:03I know, I know. I don't even know what I'm
- 19:05trying to ask. But like there's so much to be,
- 19:08so much information to be gotten from the stories and from other
- 19:14people's experiences and mental health and what not.
- 19:20And just, you know, I also had brain surgery.
- 19:23I have two. Kids, emergency C sections.
- 19:27You know, I've had, I've been through some stuff, let me tell
- 19:31you, and sounds like it. Never.
- 19:37Once that I give up. Never Once that I want to give.
- 19:42There you go, guys. Never.
- 19:44Once you know. Never give up.
- 19:51Never give up. Never, never surrender, You
- 19:55know, really really touching story.
- 20:01And thank you for sharing Siggin, the caller.
- 20:06That is a again, it's touching and and I don't even know, a
- 20:13scratching of the surface of the whole story.
- 20:15But just hearing enough of the story and and replaying this,
- 20:19the stagnants of your voicemails.
- 20:22You've definitely, definitely had had a run of it, you know,
- 20:28But yeah, singing. So let's talk about the goddess
- 20:31now, right? We'd love to have more
- 20:34information out there about her. Unfortunately there isn't much
- 20:37because nothing that survived through the Viking age if she
- 20:43had any existence prior to Nori Sterlison writing his pros ETA
- 20:51because that is the only surviving text that we have that
- 20:54I'm aware of. At least where she is mentioned
- 20:56she's mentioned in two skaldic poems that are contained in
- 20:59Snorri Sterlison's Pros ETA, she's mentioned in Guilefagini
- 21:04and she is mentioned in Skull's couple more.
- 21:08So if you guys want to check those stories out I'll I'll I'll
- 21:13have a the name of them in the show note or the end or the
- 21:16description rather. So wherever you're watching or
- 21:20catching this, just check either the show notes or the
- 21:22description and put the names of the of the poems down there for
- 21:24you so you can read about it. But I'm going to give you a
- 21:27rundown of of of Sigin. So as we mentioned early on, she
- 21:33is Loki's wife and with Loki they have two offspring, two
- 21:39children Norfi and Vali. And we don't really hear much of
- 21:48anything at all about speaking until after a boulder incident.
- 21:54So when everybody is you know all the gods in in Asgard are
- 21:59playing you know throw stuff at boulder.
- 22:04Loki tricks holder into throwing a spear or an arrow of mistletoe
- 22:13at boulder which is a fatal wound in it and it kills
- 22:18boulder. And then not only that but not
- 22:21so not only is is is Loki responsible for Baldur's death
- 22:24he also is is the reason why hell does not give him up.
- 22:29Because when hell is is attempted to be bargained with
- 22:34of for Baldur for him to return back do to ask our because he is
- 22:39the brightest and most beloved of the gods.
- 22:42She says that all of creation, everything must weep for Baldur
- 22:47and everything in all the 9 realms does except for, as it
- 22:51turns out to be Loki in disguise.
- 22:54And when this is discovered, and when it is realized that it is
- 22:58all Loki's fault, you know he is.
- 23:04He is. He is punished by the gods for
- 23:06it. And one of the things that
- 23:08happens is Notfi. I believe it's notfi gets turned
- 23:13into a wolf and then Narfi in his wolf state kills his brother
- 23:20Bali and the entrails of his brother.
- 23:26His guts right are used to bind Loki.
- 23:30They are turned into mystical mythical chain chains or binds.
- 23:36And then Loki is is carted away to this cave underground, and he
- 23:40is bound by his own son's guts to this rock where he is to be
- 23:45kept imprisoned until Ragnarok and of course, Sigan, his wife,
- 23:52goes with him. Now, that's not the end of
- 23:55Loki's punishment, you know, because after all, now he is, he
- 23:58is a kinslayer. He is, you know, an oath
- 24:01breaker. He has done all of these things
- 24:03against his own tribe of the gods and now and in addition to
- 24:09having his his children transformed you know into these
- 24:13protest monsters and or killed, now he is bound to this rock by
- 24:17his own son's guts and it furthermore he has placed over
- 24:22him. I believe it.
- 24:23I think it mentions in one of the poems that Scotty puts a
- 24:26snake over him. She has some sort of like you
- 24:29know she's either binding him with the guts of a volley or
- 24:32she's putting the snake over his head.
- 24:34And anyway, this snake that is positioned over him drips venom
- 24:38from his mouth and it's like very it burns, you know, So it's
- 24:42like this dripping, acidic burn, you know?
- 24:47And so Sigan, to keep Loki from being tormented endlessly, holds
- 24:55a bowl over him and catches the venom that drips from the
- 24:59snake's mouth. Of course the bowl will fill up
- 25:03and periodically Sigan has to go and empty the bowl and then come
- 25:07back and continue the process well while the Sigin is away
- 25:12emptying the the ball of venom. The venom continues to drip and
- 25:15every time the venom lands on Loki he rides in agony.
- 25:20And it is said in the stories that that is when we have
- 25:24earthquakes. It is because Loki is stirring
- 25:27and and riding in agony from the venom that drips from the snake
- 25:32that is part of his punishment. So and that's about the extent
- 25:38that we know of of Sig and she's mentioned as being by his side
- 25:42and there to catch the venom that snake drips and and keeps
- 25:47him from being tormented endlessly with from this venom
- 25:50or you know, by this venom. And so This is why I like to use
- 25:56the term Sig and the faithful. You know, she is so devoted to
- 25:59her husband and so committed to him that she doesn't question
- 26:06the gods either. You know, she is mentioned in
- 26:09the stories as being one of the Acer gods.
- 26:11So she is part of the tribe that imprisons and sentences Loki to
- 26:17this torturous existence until until Ragnarok, you know, and
- 26:23she doesn't question that and she and she doesn't abandon her
- 26:26husband. So she is.
- 26:28She is faithful to two sides of this scenario, which makes me
- 26:33remember what our caller Sagan mentioned, where you know, she
- 26:37said that she. Really takes a lot from the
- 26:42goddess Sagan because you know, she doesn't or hasn't been one
- 26:48to seek vengeance. And and of all the things that
- 26:51we read about the various aspects of the gods and
- 26:54mythology, you know there are some you know, like V Bar for
- 26:59example, one of Odin's sons, he is a God of vengeance.
- 27:03He he seeks vengeance after hit after oven is killed at Ragnarok
- 27:09you know and and he kills Fenrear to to.
- 27:17Avenge his father's death, Sigan.
- 27:19And you know, there might be other gods that that that can
- 27:22that maybe have that same sort of aspect or or attribute
- 27:27attested to them, but Sigan isn't one of them.
- 27:29She's not a God or goddess of a vengeance.
- 27:32She is a God of a faithful devotion.
- 27:35You know and she accepts the fact that I have a husband that
- 27:39I must be devoted to and I am also part of a tribe you know
- 27:44and when the tribes law is broken, I am bound by that law
- 27:48and I am you know, I have to respect that.
- 27:52And regardless of what she had happened to her and to her
- 27:57family, she is right there at low key side and accepts the
- 28:03decision that was made, you know, So she has again this,
- 28:06this stoic bravery, this, this undying devotion, faithfulness
- 28:13that is I think admirable, you know, again, something of a very
- 28:18brave nature. She is also.
- 28:22I would like to consider thinking of her as a goddess
- 28:25associated with dealing with grief.
- 28:28You know, just think about it. Her children were transformed
- 28:32into a monster and ripped apart by one of one of their own.
- 28:37You know her one son is transformed into the wolf, and
- 28:40then that son of hers kills the other son.
- 28:44She now has none of her children of the of of her own anymore.
- 28:48That she knows them and the one of her children's guts are are
- 28:53chained are chains now that that keep her husband in prison.
- 28:59How grievous of a thing, right? How brutal.
- 29:01How grotesque must that be? And again, this is a sentence
- 29:06that was imposed by the very tribe that she is associated
- 29:13with. And part of, you know, it's not
- 29:17like she was like, well, you know, that's my husband.
- 29:19How dare you? You know, I'm, I'm, I'm going to
- 29:21get you for this. You know you'll never you'll
- 29:24you'll, you know you'll rue the day that you ever did this to
- 29:28Loki because I'm going to have my revenge.
- 29:31It's not a thing that that singing.
- 29:34Is, is is mentioned of a feeling, but surely she had to
- 29:39have felt grief, you know, and I think that that is.
- 29:45An important aspect of sigan that needs to be remembered as
- 29:48well is. Dealing with grief and then it's
- 29:52and it's part of our of our human experience.
- 29:56You know, there's going to be times in all of our lives where
- 30:01we are presented with grievous situations, We are going to
- 30:06experience loss. We're going to experience things
- 30:10of stress or anxiety and and and all of these various, you know,
- 30:15plights of a physical and mental illness that can be debilitating
- 30:21and destroy people. I've seen it happen to people I
- 30:26love and I know that if you're listening and watching to this
- 30:29podcast you have as well. You either are someone who is
- 30:36you know enduring lights of a physical and or mental illness
- 30:39or know people who are or have or both.
- 30:43You know. So grief is something that we're
- 30:45all well well aware of. You know and there's going to be
- 30:51times throughout life that that that we are going to be really
- 30:55put up against it. You know, you imagine being in a
- 30:58in a position like sigin. In facing something like that,
- 31:03and not only facing it, enduring it, but not approaching the
- 31:12situation in a vengeful way against your own, You know, cuz
- 31:17let's let's face it, Loki was in the wrong.
- 31:20You know if you want to look at the.
- 31:23The way that society was at the time and how the stories are
- 31:26framed around the way the world's, you know, the way the
- 31:30world is viewed and and how the dramatic peoples at the time
- 31:32viewed the world. What Loki did was crime flat
- 31:38out. And at those times I mean laws
- 31:43were in place against crimes such as this.
- 31:46When you broke with the law, I mean it's like anything
- 31:49nowadays, you know, I mean you break the law.
- 31:50You have to pay the the fine. You have to do you know, do the
- 31:54crime, do the time, pay the fine, you know, and.
- 31:59She knew that and she accepted that and is like, you know,
- 32:02yeah, you did. You messed up.
- 32:04But because he messed up, because he did what he did, she
- 32:08was still faithful to him. It's like I'm not abandoning you
- 32:11just because you broke the law. I am going to suffer along with
- 32:15you in my own way. You won't have to suffer alone,
- 32:20you know. I will give you relief as much
- 32:22as I'm able to. I will catch this acidic, you
- 32:26know, burning venom. So that way you're not tormented
- 32:32constantly. You know, she does the best she
- 32:34can with that. And I also think that even
- 32:38though she's not mentioned of it very greatly in terms of her
- 32:43attributes or aspects of being a mother, she is in fact a mother
- 32:48figure, you know. And every mother loves their
- 32:52children. You know, I would like to say
- 32:57that at least that, yeah, even if it's not shown or displayed
- 33:01in the ways that you would think are ideal or or whatever, that a
- 33:04mother's love is rattle the world and shake the very
- 33:10foundations of the earth. That's how powerful a mother's
- 33:13love is. And she is so loving.
- 33:19You know, if you think about the scenario and then everything
- 33:23that the story, paint a picture of her love for Loki as as a
- 33:33wife, you know, for her husband and and to her children.
- 33:39I think that a mother's love is something that is also an
- 33:42attribute or an aspect of thinking that we can safely, you
- 33:48know, come away with her or walk away from knowing about her, you
- 33:53know. And so when we talk about
- 33:56various aspects of the gods, you know, I'm always one to first
- 34:00and foremost look to things that pertain to what's closer to me
- 34:05than the gods are, right. Like I'm the, I'm the type of a
- 34:07heathen who looks at my ancestors for sources of
- 34:11inspirations, guidance, strength, you know, that sort of
- 34:14thing. Before I would look to the gods
- 34:15for it. But I don't.
- 34:17I don't this, you know, I don't, I don't not include them.
- 34:21They are included, you know, so they aren't outside of my
- 34:24practices, but they're not the first things that I go to.
- 34:27A lot of other folks might be the ones who.
- 34:31In times of. Grief or agony or or difficulty,
- 34:37right? They they look first to the
- 34:38gods. I know this is I think probably
- 34:41more true for newer heathens, you know coming into this,
- 34:44especially if you're coming into it this practice, having left a
- 34:50another religion like Christianity or something where
- 34:54the the divine, the sacred God, whatever is, is the most
- 34:58important thing there is And there is nothing greater than
- 35:01than that. So you look to the gods, right.
- 35:04So there might be folks who are finding out now about singing or
- 35:10having not thought about her much.
- 35:12You know, having read the stories or heard the stories and
- 35:14just never really put too much stock or thought into it that
- 35:18are hearing this now and and hearing the the the depth at
- 35:22which we're going into it and going wow, if there was a a God
- 35:28or goddess in our pantheon who you could connect with when
- 35:34needing help getting through times of grief.
- 35:38Learning lessons of devotion, courage, faithfulness, bravery.
- 35:43They know all these things. Love.
- 35:47You know, unconditional love. There was ever a deity to to
- 35:52look to for that sort of inspiration and?
- 35:58And there you go. There's singing, you know.
- 36:03And I hadn't previously thought much of her at all, you know.
- 36:08And that and it's interesting how when we look at and I'm, I'm
- 36:12going to just say like I've fallen victim of of this too.
- 36:15You know, like we always look to the gods as is, like you know, a
- 36:17little Thor, you know, because he's, he's mentioned more in the
- 36:20stories. You know, he has actual place
- 36:23names in Scandinavia, Odin, same thing.
- 36:27You know Frayer, you know all of the gods that have a strong
- 36:32presence, vibrant background, they have place names named
- 36:38after and we have historical evidence that that that shows
- 36:42that they were venerated by the people.
- 36:46We don't have anything like that for some of these lesser known
- 36:48ones that have come up through later on in the myth, You know
- 36:52what I mean? Like there's nothing that we
- 36:54know of at least my knowledge that you know Loki and Sigin
- 36:59were ever venerated as deities by people and and and and how we
- 37:07tend to just focus on one or or a couple different gods or
- 37:11goddesses different strokes for different folks.
- 37:15You know it just kind of depends on the on your practices and how
- 37:18you want to approach it. I I just because I'm talking now
- 37:21today and about singing doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going
- 37:24to you know turn around and and create, you know a space on my
- 37:29altar for her. But if this is going to be that
- 37:33little bit of seed that gets planted in in my mind that
- 37:37somebody asked me about it later on, I'm going to say well
- 37:40actually that talked about this this one time, you know, and I
- 37:42made, I had somebody to call into the podcast and even though
- 37:47their question doesn't really, I wouldn't classify it as a
- 37:49question. It was it was more like this
- 37:54statement of awareness, right, bringing awareness to what
- 37:59exists, bringing awareness to what's going on.
- 38:02And I do have to say, you know that it makes it makes real good
- 38:07sense that for someone to have gone through what they've gone
- 38:11through, right? Or call it at least singing, for
- 38:13her to have gone through what she's going through in life, it
- 38:15makes total sense that the goddess singing is her matron.
- 38:22You know her her main focus in her spiritual practices over the
- 38:27years because the. The agony, the the pain, the
- 38:34grief, the struggle. It can.
- 38:38It can turn people really. It's into terrible people.
- 38:42You know what I mean? Like again, you can become so
- 38:44consumed by the wrong that was done to you that it it it
- 38:50transforms you into into this spiteful and vengeful person
- 38:54that. You never fully heal, you know.
- 38:58And I don't want to try to sit here and say that I, you know,
- 39:01you know, give it some time and you'll and you'll get through it
- 39:05and it'll heal. I I don't think wounds like that
- 39:07ever really heal, you know, I think they scab over and I think
- 39:10they get scarred over time. And they don't.
- 39:16I don't want to say they don't bleed as much or they don't hurt
- 39:22as much because again, I think that there are times and
- 39:25occasions and triggers that happen that reopen those old
- 39:29wounds. But you know, maybe maybe over
- 39:33time, you know, there are ways and and calluses that get built
- 39:37up that make it when the wounds do get re aggravated.
- 39:41It's not quite such a a burning sensation anymore.
- 39:45You know, instead of it being this gushing wound, it's like
- 39:47I'll just just little pinprick or you know, it's it's
- 39:51manageable Now I I know how to deal with this, right?
- 39:54It's not such a crazy thing. And I got to thinking too, you
- 40:00know, like talking about like old wounds and and whatnot, I
- 40:03mean. You.
- 40:05Think about the mythology of it. Sagan and Loki and and you know
- 40:09he's there till Ragnarok, right? Well, do they know when?
- 40:12Ragnarok is, you know what I'm saying.
- 40:15Like you know if you want to think about it from that angle
- 40:17it's she's, she's enduring this with him that he's enduring this
- 40:21indefinitely until whenever that happens, you know.
- 40:23Yes sure it'll happen one day, right.
- 40:26That if you want to like kind of get you know bring bring
- 40:29ourselves to that level of of processing something like that
- 40:32it's you know they ain't like well you're here for the next 40
- 40:34years and. You have time to think about
- 40:36stuff and mark your calendar down like you're here until
- 40:40Ragnarok. Well, when's that?
- 40:42I don't know, but in the. Meantime, I'm going to try to
- 40:44stop it, right? Because he he, he makes every
- 40:47effort to try and prevent it or delay it and stuff, you know, so
- 40:51it's, you know it'll be on a day that ends in, so the day that
- 40:56ends. In Y but it's old Norris or the
- 41:00day that ends in GI. Don't know some of the.
- 41:04Dramatic days of the week, the names of the dramatic days of
- 41:06the week, you know, wildness, wildness day.
- 41:10But it's the a e.g. because the anyway, but I'm getting nerdy
- 41:13with it. So anyway, the indefinite, you
- 41:17know, knowing that it's going to happen at some time.
- 41:20But when's that going to happen? You don't know, so you endure.
- 41:22Or they endure patiently, just not knowing.
- 41:30When that's going to happen and how anxious that can cause a lot
- 41:32of us to be, you know? Well, when am I going to catch a
- 41:35break? You know, I'm never going to
- 41:39catch a break. I can't catch a break.
- 41:41And I got to say this too, You know, I'm I'm getting off the
- 41:45subject. Of sticking a little bit, but I
- 41:46think it's all all kind of. The dots connect a little bit,
- 41:50right? I've had to I've.
- 41:55Had to sever ties. I've had to walk away.
- 41:56I've had to cut ties from people who are just like can't ever
- 42:02catch a break, you know? Well, figure it out.
- 42:06Man, like find something to break the cycle, you know, do
- 42:12something different. But just sitting there and and
- 42:16complaining about it, you know, I mean I've look, I've gone
- 42:20through stuff like that in my life and it's easy to to get
- 42:23caught up in that. Like, don't get me wrong, it's
- 42:25it's it's easy to get caught up in the moment and be like.
- 42:30I can't possibly get through this, and this is just my lot in
- 42:33life. You know I'm destined to suck.
- 42:37Whatever. No.
- 42:39You know, if you wanna, if you wanna adopt that mentality and
- 42:42you wanna think that way, then of course that's the way it's
- 42:45gonna be. Life sucks.
- 42:48Sometimes, you know, not to be nihilistic, but I mean, life is
- 42:50pain. Life is full of suffering.
- 42:52That's just it. Part of it.
- 42:55Now you can either. Condition yourself.
- 42:57You can either put yourself through the ringers and and and
- 43:00give yourself challenges and and put yourself through these
- 43:03ordeals to prepare for those curve balls that.
- 43:08Life throws at you, you know. Or you can just skate along and
- 43:11hope for the best. And then when you get you know T
- 43:14boned by this destructive force of of life that that throws you
- 43:21way off course and and you're not.
- 43:24Prepared for it. You're not conditioned for it.
- 43:26You haven't put yourself through ordeal or adversity, be able to
- 43:33handle it, then it, then yeah, it's going to, it's going to
- 43:36derail you almost indefinitely. It'd be really hard to get back
- 43:40on track after that. And I think that's one of the,
- 43:44you know, things. And I've had some, again, crazy
- 43:47things happen to me in my life, things that would have, I think,
- 43:51broken. Other people, had I not gone
- 43:56through things up to that point in my life that taught me
- 44:00lessons and that prepared me for the hard times.
- 44:04You know, like, you know we we we we see messages and and memes
- 44:10and and and stuff all the time about how the sword you know,
- 44:13the good sword doesn't. It doesn't become.
- 44:17Battle worthy until it's been put through the fire, until it's
- 44:20been beaten, until it's been quenched, until it's gone
- 44:22through all of these things. You know, had the impurities
- 44:25beaten out of it. Shining gold doesn't become
- 44:28shining gold until it's put in the furnace.
- 44:32You know, subjected to those extreme.
- 44:36Conditions to pull out the impurities.
- 44:40Pull out the slag to get rid of that less than stellar parts and
- 44:46it's I. You can say that this it's
- 44:49poetic and you know, but it is. It's true, you know.
- 44:52You're not going to be able to handle things that life throws
- 44:55at you if you don't proactively decide to suffer.
- 45:04And I say that very with with conviction.
- 45:08Choose to suffer. Choose to put yourself through
- 45:11things you know. Go without food, go hungry a
- 45:16little bit, you know, Get hot, get sweaty, be cold, get wet.
- 45:24You know, put yourself through physical pain.
- 45:28Put yourself into situations that that are going to really
- 45:31challenge your mental and physical fortitude.
- 45:35You know, do it smartly, right? You know, again, don't, don't
- 45:40take. What I'm saying here today is
- 45:42this like, you know, in reckless, abandoned, you know,
- 45:46do something that that could be potentially fatal or anything
- 45:50like that. I'm just saying.
- 45:52You know, don't. Don't stay comfortable all the
- 45:57time. You'll become soft and you won't
- 46:00be able to handle life when it when it really wants to, to mess
- 46:05with you. As it will.
- 46:07And it does. Nobody is.
- 46:10Exempt from it, you know, So proactive suffering, you know,
- 46:15choose to suffer. Put yourself through those those
- 46:17ordeals. Because what does ordeal do?
- 46:21What does adversity do? It breeds worth.
- 46:27Yes, it breeds worth. Adversity breeds worth Ordeal
- 46:30breeds worth. Not my original phrase.
- 46:35Eric Word Weaver Sherman from the Ravens call.
- 46:39I heard that from him years ago. And you know, I never heard it
- 46:43but that way. But I I've known that concept my
- 46:46whole life. You know, live, live a hard
- 46:50life. You know, put yourself through
- 46:52the ringer from time to time, and then you know when.
- 46:56When things come down the road that really test you, you're
- 47:02prepared for it. Is it still going to suck along
- 47:05the way? Yes.
- 47:05Yes, it will. You know, not saying that you're
- 47:08going to be, you know, so callous to the situation that
- 47:11you'll have no reaction to it. It's it's going to elicit a
- 47:13reaction. You're going to feel the results
- 47:17of whatever it is that happens. It's not going to be as
- 47:20debilitating. It's not going to be.
- 47:22As you know, the trauma is not going to destroy you.
- 47:27And I wonder. If in in the cases where you
- 47:30know trauma does ruin so many people's lives, you know, I have
- 47:35to wonder if it's because they hadn't been.
- 47:43Given the chance to be proven and tested beforehand, you know.
- 47:51You know, guys, we live in a. We live in a generation and we
- 47:54live in a time. We live in a society.
- 47:59But we we do. We live in a period of our
- 48:03humanity's existence where everything is is meant to be
- 48:08easy. How convenient everything is.
- 48:12Oh, you're hungry. You don't have to cook.
- 48:14You can look. You don't even have to leave
- 48:15your house. You don't even have to leave
- 48:18your apartment, your home, to get food brought to you.
- 48:21We have apps for everything. You have a question about
- 48:25something. You've got a a mobile device.
- 48:27You can, you know, Google and get an answer for it in seconds.
- 48:33Knowledge is at our fingertips. Maybe it's not all good
- 48:37knowledge or or, you know, reputable knowledge, but it's
- 48:40there. It's accessible, you know?
- 48:44Are we cold? We.
- 48:45Turn the thermostat up or we hot, we turn it down.
- 48:48You know with enough money and with enough, you know you can
- 48:54get. Anything you want and I'm.
- 48:57Not saying this is the case for everybody, but relatively
- 49:00speaking, you know, life, we've got it easy.
- 49:06We've got it easy now compared in in comparison in in in
- 49:10relative terms, so to even, you know, less than 100 years ago.
- 49:15You know, I mean, you know, and people be like, oh, you know
- 49:19what, it's things are hard now too.
- 49:21Yeah. You know, I mean, look, I'm not
- 49:25think there are things that really stuck.
- 49:26I mean it's it's very hard for people to get ahead in life, you
- 49:29know, everything's so damn expensive.
- 49:33People don't understand the meaning of faithfulness and
- 49:36loyalty, you know, you know, talking about singing and and
- 49:40how devoted she is. How many people nowadays, if
- 49:43they had, if if the situation that that panned out in the
- 49:46stories and the way that the society you know was at the
- 49:51time, where the laws and stuff were at the time, you know, how
- 49:55many people nowadays would if they're, you know, if they were
- 49:59in siggins shoes, you know what would be the first thing they
- 50:03do? Well, they probably get on
- 50:04social media and bitch about it. I can't believe the ACR did
- 50:08this. Guys, you know?
- 50:12I'm tagging them. Go and go and you know.
- 50:16Shame them publicly in the you know and then and and and find
- 50:21ways of of canceling them. You know, Can you believe what
- 50:25they? Did this is unacceptable instead
- 50:29of being the the stoic figure that that.
- 50:32Thing is, is portrayed in the in the myth as being faithful to
- 50:38her tribe, understanding that when law is broken.
- 50:42Penalties are in place for breaking of law.
- 50:48You know you're not exempt from it just because you're part of
- 50:51the tribe. You're part of the group, part
- 50:54of the family. Oh, it's okay.
- 50:56We'll get over it. No you don't you.
- 51:00Messed up a a Ron You done messed up a a Ron.
- 51:06I'm for real, you know. And that's it that, you know, I
- 51:12don't think with the exception of small groups, you know what
- 51:16I'm saying? I'm not saying like everybody
- 51:17out here is is, is out for lunch when it comes to such concept as
- 51:21loyalty, guilty, trust, truth, right, being, being faithful to
- 51:26someone or someone's that your faithfulness to them, you know
- 51:31those those boundaries are not broken.
- 51:36Just because you get offended. By something like, hey, look,
- 51:40when when when you mess up, you got to pay the price, you got to
- 51:43pay the shield, you know, you've got to pay the recompense.
- 51:48And sometimes those recompense that that that recompense is
- 51:53because the crime was. So high and it was such an an
- 51:56egregious offense. I mean you're you're you're cast
- 52:00out you're outlawed. How that applies in modern times
- 52:04and stuff, I mean that that's. For tribes to determine
- 52:07themselves, that's for injured and groups and things like that
- 52:09to determine themselves. But when it happens, it's
- 52:15nobody's else's decision. It's no one else's right to say
- 52:19anything about it except for that group, at least in my
- 52:23opinion, and if things get shared outside of the Tribes
- 52:31construct. Or the groups construct and it
- 52:33gets leaked out into the public. Well then of course it's going
- 52:36to raise alarms and it's going to be like, what the hell is
- 52:38wrong with you people? Why are you doing it that way?
- 52:41You know? And I'm being vague when I'm
- 52:42saying stuff. I'm not, you know, look, guys,
- 52:43I'm not, I'm not saying that you should be, you know, chaining
- 52:46people to rock indefinitely because they, you know,
- 52:50committed a crime. In your group, like I feel like
- 52:55I have to say you. Know again, we live in this
- 52:57society and we live in a such a time now that you have to.
- 53:01Include disclaimers on anything. You know, what I'm saying is
- 53:04that the mythology is the mythology.
- 53:06It's not necessarily that you you go and you say, well, I'm
- 53:11doing it this way because that's how the gods did it or or or
- 53:14that's I'm doing it or we should do it this way because look what
- 53:17it says in, you know, whatever stanza of the Hava Mall you know
- 53:23or here's a classic one, you know in Locust Center when Odin.
- 53:30Says that he will not have a drink because or he will not
- 53:34have a drink unless Loki is given a drink.
- 53:36And now that has turned into amongst a lot of Heathens and
- 53:40and and Pagan circles as that we will not give bloat to Odin
- 53:44without bloating to the Loki at the same time because of what it
- 53:49says in locust center. I mean, here's my thoughts on
- 53:55that. Since you asked, right since you
- 53:59asked. Without asking.
- 54:03I mean, that's what Odin did, You know, Odin says that he
- 54:05makes their blood and they are, you know, Blood Brothers and you
- 54:10know in a way and that because of that both that was taken
- 54:13between the two of them, he will not have a drink poured for him
- 54:17without one being poured for low key.
- 54:20Well, what the hell does that have to do with us?
- 54:23You know what I mean? That's his deal with low key
- 54:29and. I don't.
- 54:31That doesn't translate to me as like well.
- 54:34If I'm gonna give bloat to Odin, then I have to include Loki as
- 54:36well and it also hasn't. Never been.
- 54:41We don't have anything that suggests that was ever a concept
- 54:44or a thought given in Scandinavia.
- 54:47I think what information we have of Odin being venerated is that
- 54:55Odin. Was a a God of the kings of, the
- 54:57nobility of the aristocracy of the of the elite, the elite of.
- 55:03Society, whether it was the political elite, the nobility,
- 55:06the warrior elite, the war bands, you know that was who
- 55:12that that class. Of society at the time where who
- 55:15The Who who venerated Odin weren't the common people.
- 55:19You know those these folks. You know the common folks they
- 55:23were. If any of the gods were were,
- 55:26were looked at, you know, from a historical sense, I mean it was
- 55:29you know Thor and and and Frayer and you know earlier on than
- 55:33that, you know we're talking like Tier 2.
- 55:37You know, the Germanic tribes like an earthist, you know Earth
- 55:44worship things like that. You didn't.
- 55:48You know, we don't see anything anywhere documented at least or
- 55:51or or surviving that that would have even suggested.
- 55:54That this concept of we have to include Loki in our ritual
- 55:57because we're giving you know offering to Odin ever was a
- 56:01thing. So to to to to pull that one
- 56:04segment out of the lore and use that.
- 56:07As like your guiding principle to to do it?
- 56:10I mean, look, I'm not here to tell you that if you're doing
- 56:12that, you're wrong. I'm just saying, in my opinion,
- 56:15one has nothing to do with the other.
- 56:17You know, just because Odin and Loki mingled blood.
- 56:21At some point in time it was a line in a in a myth.
- 56:25Yeah. It has nothing to do with me as
- 56:26a as a as a heathen. You know.
- 56:28I don't think that Odin is going to should I, you know ever have
- 56:32a situation where I'm bloked I'm I'm performing bloat to Odin
- 56:36that he's going to ignore me or or or not you know engage with
- 56:41with what's going on because I didn't include Loki in it.
- 56:44I don't think that's how it works.
- 56:47It doesn't make sense to me and so there's a lot of that I.
- 56:52Think that comes around. You know, there's a lot of that
- 56:53that that people look at and say, well, because of how it's
- 56:56in the lore, because of what they said, you know, this is how
- 56:58we have to do it. This isn't the Bible, you know
- 57:01what I mean? Like this isn't not, this isn't
- 57:02the same as as what Christians have.
- 57:04This isn't, you know, Doctrine. That is, the Christians have,
- 57:12you know, law, customs, doctrine, things like that are
- 57:15are established amongst the tribes.
- 57:19You know, so my tribes, through customs, law, are going to be my
- 57:24customs and my laws and our laws, not yours, not theirs.
- 57:30Unless you are part of our our. Group and part of our
- 57:33collective, you know, So yeah, I got you know, here we go.
- 57:39Random ramblings. You know, we we go off on
- 57:40different topics and different tangents, right?
- 57:48And there's mine for the week. Don't take the lower so over
- 57:52seriously. I can't get it out.
- 57:55Don't take the lower so seriously, but learn from.
- 58:02Them, I guess, is my point. You know what I mean?
- 58:04Like, maybe there's lessons to be picked up along the way.
- 58:07I mean, here we are talking about a goddess who has just a
- 58:11couple of references made of her.
- 58:15And you know, throughout this podcast, I'm like, you know,
- 58:17maybe this is a goddess that you can look to for help with things
- 58:21like dealing with grief or drawing strength and inspiration
- 58:24from her because of her level of devotion and her committed, you
- 58:29know, faithfulness and and and stuff.
- 58:31And some of these other things that we've talked about already
- 58:33on this episode, maybe it's a little.
- 58:36Oxymoronic for me to be saying don't follow the lore like it's
- 58:39the Bible and over here saying on the other hand like take
- 58:42Sagan as an. Example for for certain things.
- 58:47I think the messages are are different though.
- 58:49I think. I think what I'm saying is, you
- 58:51know, you can see some of the relatable things about the gods
- 58:55and the stories and find inspiration there.
- 58:59But I don't think we should be taking it as, as you know, holy
- 59:03commandments that need to be adhered to or else you know, or
- 59:07else we're going to get our, you know, our son turned into a wolf
- 59:12and that anyway. Guys, that's my that's my
- 59:17ramblings for this week on Sigin the Faithful.
- 59:22And thank you Sigin, who called in and wanted this to be talked
- 59:28about. If you guys have anything about

- 1:00:40And as always, if you do not want your voice on the air,
