- 0:00Welcome to Frontline Static, we will get to hear interviews with
- 0:02some of my clients journeys of getting into flight and how they
- 0:05utilize coaching to help them create success of getting hired
- 0:08with less confusion and more ease.
- 0:10Make your dream a reality of getting into flight.
- 0:12Listen in as you hear some of the stories of the people
- 0:14getting there and come join the flight prep group.
- 0:16Hey you guys welcome to the webinar how to jumpstart your
- 0:20journey into flight. I am going to do something a
- 0:24little bit different. I am going to be running an
- 0:27Instagram live as the same time as I am trying to talk to people
- 0:30who are on Zoom. So that way if people are
- 0:34scrolling on Instagram, they can still join this webinar even
- 0:36though they haven't signed up. So today on this training and
- 0:41this workshop, I'm going to be talking about how to jumpstart
- 0:44your journey into flight. And I really this webinar, I'm
- 0:48going to cover the three steps on jumpstarting your journey
- 0:51into flight. I'm going to talk about why they
- 0:53are so important. And then I'm going to be talking
- 0:56to you about the details of the three day jumpstart flight
- 1:00course and everything that it entails at the end of the
- 1:05session. And I'm also going to be
- 1:07answering any questions that you guys gave me as you signed up
- 1:11for this webinar and then any questions for those who are on
- 1:14the live or who in our attendance today.
- 1:16So just a couple housekeeping things that I want to go through
- 1:20before we get started. I know I'm looking at my Zoom
- 1:23screen. So the people on Instagram Live,
- 1:25it might be harder because I'm not directly making eye contact
- 1:28with you, but no, I am talking to both of you guys at the same
- 1:31time. So for those of you guys who are
- 1:33on the Zoom webinar right now, I want to make sure that I get
- 1:37each and every question answered that you have.
- 1:40So as questions are coming up, I want you to put them in the Q&A
- 1:45box down at the bottom. There's AQ and a box.
- 1:48Put those there. I'm going to get to those at the
- 1:50very end of the workshop today and make sure I get those
- 1:54answered for you. And then there's a chat box down
- 1:57at the bottom where I am going to make this interactive and be
- 2:00talking to you. You can be, I'm going to be
- 2:02asking you questions and you can put your answers there.
- 2:05And then for those of you guys on Instagram Live that are
- 2:08joining me, just know, you know when you put a question in the
- 2:11comment box, I can't always see it unless I'm scrolling back
- 2:13through. So I want to get to all of your
- 2:15questions as well. There is a question box down at
- 2:19the bottom on the Instagram Live.
- 2:20It's a question mark with a comment box around it.
- 2:23Put all your questions. I'm going to make sure to get
- 2:25all of those answered as well. So I want to start out by saying
- 2:31and introducing myself. For those of you guys who don't
- 2:32know me, my name is Janessa. I help nurses and medics get
- 2:36into flight nursing and flight paramedicine.
- 2:38I've ran this program for the last four years and I help on
- 2:43the daily about 50,000 people through my social media, through
- 2:47Instagram, and through TikTok really in my programs help get
- 2:51help themselves, get hired into flight, get on track, get
- 2:54unstuck with clarity in a simple, doable way, without
- 2:58hustling and without overworking.
- 2:59So today we're going to talk a little bit about that,
- 3:01especially if you're stuck and you know that you want to get
- 3:04into flight nursing or flight paramedicine and really don't
- 3:07know where to start. We're going to talk about the
- 3:09three simple steps to get started today.
- 3:12I also wanted to tell you a little bit about my background.
- 3:14If this is the first time that you're kind of getting to know
- 3:16me and interacting with me. I was a flight nurse for about 7
- 3:20years prior to that. So I've been a nurse about 15
- 3:23years prior to that. I did ICU for about four years.
- 3:27And in the seven years that I flew, I sat in a lot of flight
- 3:31interviews. I helped to train a lot of
- 3:34nurses and a lot of medics during that time.
- 3:36And I know what flight companies are looking for in their
- 3:38candidates. So after doing that, I've
- 3:41created an entire program that helps you map out your plan,
- 3:45learn how to do ride alongs, and get hired in a shorter amount of
- 3:48time. The people who come join my
- 3:50programs and my courses cut their timelines mostly in half
- 3:53and are getting to flight quicker than the three-year
- 3:57time. And you guys are here because
- 4:00you really want flight. Or maybe you're on the fence and
- 4:03you're on the cusp of like, should I do it?
- 4:05Should I not? We're going to definitely talk
- 4:06about that and address it today. Common reasons that people fail
- 4:11or don't even get started towards this flight goal is they
- 4:13have thoughts of I don't know enough, I don't have a time and
- 4:16experience, or I simply don't know how to get started.
- 4:20So today I'm going to talk to you on this jump start, your
- 4:23journey to flight, how to get started, the three simple steps
- 4:26to be taking to get you moving forward.
- 4:29I want to first start out though by telling you guys that you
- 4:33belong here in flight. You are 100% capable of getting
- 4:37here. And it's not just for the Super
- 4:40smart people or the people who get straight A's or the great
- 4:43test takers or the strongest people in the field.
- 4:46I want you guys to know I am so weak at Test taking.
- 4:50I'm not a good test taker. You asked asked me a pathophys
- 4:53question. I have a hard time answering it.
- 4:56I'm not a super strong person. I'm a very 52 petite frame and I
- 5:02did it. And if I can do it, you can too.
- 5:05Would it really takes and what this industry is really looking
- 5:07for people is people who have a fire and are committed to this
- 5:11goal of getting to flight. It requires people who are
- 5:15strong team members who want to always commit themselves to
- 5:19doing a good job and want to always get what they need for
- 5:22their patients and their families.
- 5:23This is what I believe made me really good at a job where maybe
- 5:28I wasn't the smartest candidate in the room, maybe I wasn't the
- 5:31best test taker, maybe I wasn't the strongest person.
- 5:34But what made me really good was my critical thinking skills, how
- 5:38to work well under pressure, and a deep desire to always get what
- 5:43my patients needed and for their families and to work at the
- 5:46highest level of teamwork in this team and partnership of
- 5:51working with the flight medic and a pilot at the same time.
- 5:54Teamwork was my favorite part of the job.
- 5:56Working with advanced teams who wanted to be there as much as
- 5:59me, and then a high acuity level of patients.
- 6:03The adrenaline rush was so great, but I just loved the
- 6:06teamwork. That's the thing I miss the
- 6:08most. I retired about two years ago
- 6:10because I went all in on my coaching business.
- 6:13I wanted to help people gain the skills and work through the
- 6:17process of getting to flight who wanted it to.
- 6:19And since then, I've helped dozens of nurses and medics get
- 6:22hired into flight and be successful in their journey of
- 6:25however long they want to fly. And I've helped them transition
- 6:28into it. I've helped lots of people get
- 6:31hired before the three-year mark.
- 6:32And I'm just so proud of this program that I created.
- 6:36So today I'm going to talk to you about the Jumpstart Flight
- 6:38course. I'm going to talk to you about
- 6:39the three steps that we're going to cover in that course, why
- 6:42they're so important. And then I'm going to go into
- 6:44detail about what is included in the in the course.
- 6:47And for those of you guys who stay on, I have a special offer
- 6:51for you at the very end. So you want to keep watching so
- 6:55that you can see what that special offer is.
- 6:58And again, for those of you guys, if you were just joining
- 7:00the live or you're just joining the webinar, that's OK.
- 7:03I want to make sure I get to all of your questions.
- 7:05That's what this meeting is about.
- 7:07So if you're on the webinar, make sure you put that at the
- 7:10Q&A box in the bottom. And if you're in the Instagram
- 7:13Live, make sure you put that in the question box at the bottom.
- 7:15And I will get to all of those at the end.
- 7:18In this webinar, How to Jumpstart Your Journey to
- 7:21flight, I'm going to cover the three steps that will help you
- 7:24get unstuck, that will help you take actions right now to get
- 7:27started on your journey to flight.
- 7:29And I'm going to talk to you about why they are so important
- 7:33and give you the details on the three day course, August
- 7:35Jumpstart flight course that I'm offering this month.
- 7:38I'm going to go into depth on how each of these steps in this
- 7:42live workshop in the three days when you join it in August on
- 7:47three separate days. I'm going to cover each topic
- 7:49and what the course includes on this workshop today.
- 7:54But I'm going to show you how to jump start your journey in a
- 7:57doable way, how to get unstuck, how to get clear, and just how
- 8:00to get started and start taking actions.
- 8:03I have to 1st talk about the three things that people think
- 8:09that they need to focus on to get into flight.
- 8:11And I want to focus on these because everybody, almost
- 8:15everybody who comes to work with me thinks that they need to
- 8:18focus on one of these three things.
- 8:20And one of these three things that they think they need to
- 8:22focus on is actually taking them longer to get to flight or
- 8:25having them fail altogether. And so I think it's really
- 8:28important to start out with the three common mistakes that I see
- 8:31people making. And then we'll move into the
- 8:33three things you want to start working on, the three steps you
- 8:35want to start taking. So the first common mistake that
- 8:38I see people working on trying to get to flight is focusing on
- 8:43time and experience. If you are on the live or you
- 8:46are on the webinar with me, me right now, raise your hand or
- 8:49comment if that's what you thought that you needed to get
- 8:52to flight or if that's what you're currently doing is
- 8:55focusing on time and experience. Now what I see by this, an
- 8:59example of this is I see people working both ER and ICUI see
- 9:04people jumping around units, departments, hospitals because
- 9:08they want to try to get to a level 1.
- 9:10They think that flight companies are only looking for level 1
- 9:13trauma experience. They think that flight companies
- 9:15are looking for people both ER and ICU or PEDs or cardiac
- 9:20devices. And I see them jump from one
- 9:23department to the next department to the next
- 9:25apartment, spending years, sometimes decades getting into
- 9:29flight. A common amount of time that I
- 9:32see people who come and join my groups or my courses.
- 9:36They have been working towards this goal for five years, 10
- 9:39years. I have people in my program
- 9:41right now that have been working towards cycle for 30 years
- 9:44because they have this thought that time and experience will
- 9:47give them confidence to make them look better in flight,
- 9:50which is not true. Jumping around is the worst
- 9:54thing that you can do for yourself.
- 9:55Flight companies are looking for you to stay in one department,
- 9:59either ER or ICU. One is not better than the
- 10:03other. I always offer for you to pick
- 10:06either ER or ICU, the one that you're most excited about, the
- 10:10unit or department that you're most excited about.
- 10:12That's where your critical thinking skills are going to
- 10:15grow. So one is not better than the
- 10:17other. Does not matter if it's a rural
- 10:19bed ER or ICU or if it's a level 1 trauma.
- 10:23ERICU, we hired people all over from rural bed critical access
- 10:29centers to level 1. They are not just looking for
- 10:32level 1 from trauma nurses. You create very different nurses
- 10:35with the depending on if you're a rural bed or you're or a level
- 10:381. For example, rural bed ERICU
- 10:40nurses, they are super resourceful.
- 10:43They work with very little resources.
- 10:45Sometimes they don't have an intensivist or physician on
- 10:47call, so they have to work with their protocols and work really
- 10:50well as a team. They don't always have the
- 10:52supplies or things that they need.
- 10:53So it requires them to think very differently and be really
- 10:57resourceful. Level 1 trauma nurses or level 2
- 11:00or Level 3. I think I came from a Level 3.
- 11:02I'm not even sure if it was like a Level 3 ICU when I was there.
- 11:07But you usually have residents or specialties or a lot of
- 11:11different patient diagnosis that you see.
- 11:13So you get to be around a lot of residents, a lot of different
- 11:17physicians, a lot of different specialties, a lot of different
- 11:19patient diagnosis. So that's what's kind of offered
- 11:21for you as you're working in some of these ERS that are a
- 11:26certain level of training. But again, it doesn't matter
- 11:29what level and you want to stick on focus using on one
- 11:33department, ER or ICU, any specialty of any of those is
- 11:37fine. You do not need pediatric, you
- 11:39do not need cardiac devices. You will learn and get all of
- 11:42that training as you hop into flight.
- 11:44The biggest reason why they want critical care, and I'll talk
- 11:47about this again, is because they want to see your critical
- 11:50thinking skills grow. There is no possible way before
- 11:54you get into flight that you can see every patient diagnosis and
- 11:57know everything that is going on because in three years you're
- 12:01just not going to get that. So there there's a reason why in
- 12:05the requirements for flight positions, it does not say you
- 12:07need ERICU, PEDs, cardiac devices for most like companies
- 12:12in the United States, it says ER or ICU.
- 12:15So that's a common air that I see people focusing on.
- 12:19It's taking them longer, they're stacking years and you really
- 12:23just want to focus in on one department so you could grow
- 12:25your leadership qualities. Flight companies are looking for
- 12:28who you are, what you value, the team player you are, and
- 12:33focusing on the leadership qualities where you go above and
- 12:35beyond your staff position in the current department that
- 12:38you're working. So that's why that is so
- 12:40important. I know I'm going to answer that
- 12:41question again because that's the most common question that I
- 12:43get asked. So stacking time and experience
- 12:46is not what's going to put you ahead of the game or get you
- 12:48hired. I'm going to talk about what
- 12:49will in just a minute. So #2 the second common theme
- 12:53that I see people focusing on is getting all of the
- 12:57certifications. How many of you guys know people
- 13:01who get out there and want to get the CN and then say, hey,
- 13:06I'm going to get the CCRN and then they're like, well, let's
- 13:09just get my burn certification. Let's go get my trauma
- 13:11certification. Certifications or courses.
- 13:14I want to classify this together.
- 13:17Now, when I was trying to get into flight and I almost like
- 13:19guess this was about 10 years ago, a certification was
- 13:22required. You needed either an ER or an
- 13:25ICU certification. So you needed either your CEN or
- 13:28the CCR to get hired into flight.
- 13:30Now flight companies are completely moving away from
- 13:33having any required certification.
- 13:35The reason for this is because they are now requiring for
- 13:39flight to have the CFRN within one to two years of being hired
- 13:44with a flight company. I actually don't recommend
- 13:47getting this ahead of time for the single reason that flight
- 13:50companies, once you get hired, will pay for your books,
- 13:52resources, and certification to take it.
- 13:55So wait until you get hired to get your CFRN.
- 13:58They will pay for all of that and then they will pay for you
- 14:02to take it. So that's why I say always wait.
- 14:05I'm gonna tell you what things you want to be focusing on.
- 14:08Now. I say this too because I am a
- 14:11terrible test taker. You guys, it took me multiple
- 14:14attempts to pass my CCRN, multiple attempts to pass my
- 14:17CFRN. The reason why I kept going at
- 14:20it is because I didn't make it mean anything about me.
- 14:22I knew I was a really good critical care nurse even though
- 14:25I wasn't passing it. I knew it was simply because I'm
- 14:27a poor test taker. So you do not want to spend time
- 14:31working on these certifications because companies don't even
- 14:34need them. And again, it does not make you
- 14:36look better whether you have them or not.
- 14:38You want to be able to showcase who you are, what you value, the
- 14:41team player you are. If you are a great test taker,
- 14:44then you can go ahead and get these certs, but it will not
- 14:47make you, it will not make you look any better.
- 14:50So that's one thing that I want to talk about because I see a
- 14:53lot of people spending time, money, energy focusing on trauma
- 14:57courses, certs that they think will make them look better and
- 15:00that is not what flight companies are looking for.
- 15:02I help lots of people inside my courses and my programs get
- 15:05hired with 0 certifications and 0 trauma courses.
- 15:11If there's a trauma course that they require, they will either
- 15:14list out on the application or most flight companies now are
- 15:17looking at requiring the TPATC. And I never say get that ahead
- 15:20of time. It's an expensive course with
- 15:22expensive resources and flight companies will pay for you to
- 15:25have that trauma course ahead of time or that trauma course once
- 15:27you get hired. The third thing that I see
- 15:31people focusing on that's taking them longer to get there, and I
- 15:33kind of mentioned that in this one.
- 15:34I grouped them a little bit together with certs and I didn't
- 15:37mean to do that, but it's focusing on getting trauma
- 15:40courses. So I see people taking a lot of
- 15:43these courses. There's a ton out there.
- 15:45There's PHP LS, there's, I think I, I got the ATCN, lots of
- 15:52different trauma courses. And what I would recommend with
- 15:55this is if you're working in an ERICU already, most of your
- 15:58departments require you to have one of those.
- 16:01Just get the one that you're going to get for free.
- 16:04So if you get that offer for free in your ERICU, just take
- 16:08that one. Again, I'm going to say most
- 16:10flight companies don't require any trauma course.
- 16:13And if they do, then if they want you enough as a candidate,
- 16:17then they are going to hire you and have you take that traumas
- 16:20course. The flight company that I worked
- 16:22for, which is the biggest flight company in the United States
- 16:25with multiple bases, they required the TPATC and they paid
- 16:29for you to have that after you got hired and that was good for
- 16:31four years. So don't spend time, don't spend
- 16:35money, don't spend energy outside of the long shift that
- 16:38you are working, doing these trauma courses and taking these
- 16:41certifications. You're wasting time, you're
- 16:43wasting money, and your focus is taking a time away from what you
- 16:47really want to be focusing on. OK, if you guys have been
- 16:52focusing on any three of those things, getting more time,
- 16:55experience working all these different departments, getting
- 16:58multiple certifications or focusing on getting lots of
- 17:02trauma courses, put that in the comments.
- 17:04Let me know because this is what I see commonly have people take
- 17:07longer or fail to get there. OK, you guys ready?
- 17:12I'm going to talk to you about the three things that you do
- 17:14want to focus on that will jump start your journey into getting
- 17:17into flight and get you unstuck and creating momentum.
- 17:20I want to 1st talk about creating momentum and why this
- 17:22is so important. You got to create momentum.
- 17:26You have to get off the fence. What stops most people from
- 17:30getting to flight is they're undecided and being on the fence
- 17:35of indecision is the worst place that you can be.
- 17:38I see most people undecided because they think that they
- 17:41have to be 100% confident before going for this goal.
- 17:44And I will tell you, you will never be 100% confident.
- 17:48I flew for seven years and with each call I ran over 1000 calls.
- 17:53With each call that I ran, I had doubt and fear in every single
- 17:57one of them. I was never 100% confident.
- 17:59So get off the fence. Commit to going all in on this
- 18:02goal. When you do that, I promise you,
- 18:05you will create momentum. When momentum starts, the doors
- 18:08will start opening up for you. You will become clear.
- 18:11Your confidence will grow. You can't wait for the
- 18:14confidence to be committed. You have to start taking actions
- 18:17with the fear and the doubt and then the confidence will grow
- 18:19with you. It's just like when you started
- 18:21nursing school when you had no idea what to expect as a nurse
- 18:25or no idea what to expect in nursing school.
- 18:28Once you started to take the action, even though you had
- 18:31doubt, that's what created the momentum to keep going and
- 18:34that's what created the confidence with each clinical
- 18:37that you went to and with each clinical week and department
- 18:41that you went to, you grew your level of confidence.
- 18:43That's the same thing, but you've got to get off the fence
- 18:46and you have to commit to going all in.
- 18:48So if you're ready to commit to going all in, I'm going to give
- 18:50you the three steps to jump start your journey.
- 18:52And then I'm going to talk about why each one is so important.
- 18:55So here's the first step. The first step is mindset.
- 18:59This is the very smallest, least thing that people are thinking
- 19:05about. They think that they can take a
- 19:07bunch of actions to get to flight, but you have to start
- 19:10working on believing that flight is possible for you, even if you
- 19:14don't 100% believe it. Now, mindset is everything.
- 19:18If you don't believe that it's possible for you to become a
- 19:21flight nurse or a flight medic, it will just never happen to
- 19:23you. You will feel stuck and you will
- 19:25pull back. So creating mindset and belief
- 19:28in yourself is key. This is what you did when you
- 19:31started nursing school. This is what you did when you
- 19:33started medic school. This is what you did when you
- 19:37started critical care or working as a medic.
- 19:40You didn't know how to do it, but you started taking actions
- 19:42and you started growing the tiny belief that it was possible for
- 19:45you. So I'm going to talk to you
- 19:47about flight mindset and why that is so important.
- 19:51We're going to work on growing your confidence with the fear
- 19:54and the doubt at the same time, without having the skills and
- 19:58without knowing exactly what the position looks like ahead of
- 20:01time. We're not going to get rid of
- 20:03the doubt. I'm going to teach you how to
- 20:05start taking actions with it. This is really important,
- 20:09thinking about yourself as a flight nurse or a flight medic
- 20:11now because as soon as you get an offer, people in my programs
- 20:16and courses are transitioning more confidently into these high
- 20:20level roles because they have already been thinking as a
- 20:24flight nurse or flight medic before.
- 20:26A lot of people that come to work with me are only thinking
- 20:29about getting hired. They're constantly, what's the
- 20:31process? How do I do it?
- 20:32How do I make myself look like the best applicant?
- 20:35But the question you should be asking yourself is not only
- 20:38that, but how do I transition confidently after I'm put into
- 20:42this new role? And so this is what we're going
- 20:45to work on in the flight mindset.
- 20:47The flight mindset is how do you grow this belief in yourself
- 20:50while having fear at the same time?
- 20:52And how do you work on believing that you're the flight nurse and
- 20:55flight medic now before even doing the job?
- 20:57So that's number one. This is so important #2 Oh, I
- 21:01want to tell you a story with this flight mindset.
- 21:04First, I had a client that I was working with, one-on-one, and
- 21:10she was a nurse and she came to work with me because I think she
- 21:13had been an ER nurse for eight years or 10 years, and she just
- 21:16had never had the confidence for to pursue it.
- 21:18So she worked with me one-on-one and we were getting ready for
- 21:23her first flight interview. And in the flight interview,
- 21:27she, we, we tried to come up with some belief that she could
- 21:30like tap back into while they were asking her her psychosocial
- 21:34questions. And the only belief that she
- 21:36could really feel and get into is I just want to fly.
- 21:41She's like, I don't know how I'm going to get there yet.
- 21:43And but I'm so committed to this goal and I am just ready to move
- 21:47on. I feel like working ER is not
- 21:51where I'm meant to land. It's not where I'm meant to be.
- 21:54I feel like flight is where I'm meant to be.
- 21:55And I just want to fly. And I said, OK, great.
- 21:58This is the belief we want to hold on to during your
- 22:00interview. So she had the interview and the
- 22:03interview, of course, is really tough.
- 22:04She had her first flight interview.
- 22:05She got welcomed in and she said, I don't know how I did,
- 22:09but she said the entire time I just kept thinking, I just want
- 22:13to fly. And I said great, like let's
- 22:16evaluate the interview. We evaluated.
- 22:18Well, it didn't go well. Does she want to do it
- 22:20differently? Well, about a week later, she
- 22:21comes back to me and she goes, guess what?
- 22:23I said what? She goes, I got the offer and I
- 22:26said, that's incredible. Like how are you feeling?
- 22:28And she's like, well, I'm feeling great, but I want to
- 22:30share with you why I got the offer because I asked the base
- 22:34manager, how did I get it? And because she, we knew and the
- 22:39base manager told her she was up against people who were previous
- 22:41flight nurses that were trying to move into this company and
- 22:43this base and this position. And she, so she thought during
- 22:46the whole interview, there's no way I'm going to get it.
- 22:48They're going to give it to these more experienced people
- 22:50who have already been flying. And after she received the job,
- 22:53the base manager came back to her and said the reason why we
- 22:57gave it to you is because we just realized you just wanted to
- 23:00fly. And she said this was incredible
- 23:03because I never said this one time during the interview, but
- 23:06this was the thought I kept thinking over and over and over
- 23:09again. And this space manager hired her
- 23:12because she said I could just tell you had it in you that you
- 23:15wanted to fly. And that's the kind of person
- 23:17that we want to welcome onto this team and into this base.
- 23:19So This is why mindset is so important.
- 23:21So that is #1 and I tell that story, I worked with her almost
- 23:26four years ago. It's just like incredible
- 23:28because it really does matter what you're thinking and
- 23:30believing about yourself, even when you have fear and doubt and
- 23:33the actions that you're taking, because people pick up on that.
- 23:35Flight managers pick up on that flight, Flight crews pick up on
- 23:39that as you're doing right along.
- 23:40So This is why it matters. OK, Step 2 that you want to
- 23:43focus on to jump start your journey to flight.
- 23:45You want to map out your plan. You want to get out of confusion
- 23:48and know exactly the steps to be taking all along the way.
- 23:51You want to map out your plan as soon as you know that you want
- 23:55flight. I knew that I wanted flight as
- 23:57soon as a nursing school and I have a lot of people who come
- 23:59and work with me prior to nursing school and in nursing
- 24:01school. And I want to tell you guys, you
- 24:03are a leg up. You are cutting your time in
- 24:06half when you map out your plan. If you know and you get started
- 24:09in nursing school, we're going to get you there absolutely
- 24:12before the three-year mark because you've started and
- 24:14you've stayed on track. Mapping out your plan is so
- 24:17important because it gets you out of confusion.
- 24:19You no longer asking what is the process?
- 24:22What should I be working on on each of the steps?
- 24:24What should I be working on this month?
- 24:25What should I be working on this year?
- 24:27You know exactly what to be working on no matter where
- 24:30you're starting. Inside the jump, the August
- 24:33Jumpstart flight course, I am going to map out every single
- 24:36person's plan. I'm going to tell you no matter
- 24:38where you're starting, from pre nursing school all the way to if
- 24:42you've worked 3 plus years of ERICU or as a medic, what you
- 24:46should be focusing on. So having a mapped out plan is
- 24:48key. It keeps you on track, it keeps
- 24:51you out of confusion. It keeps you growing your level
- 24:54of confidence and focusing on the the right tasks, the right
- 24:59actions, the things that will keep you on track.
- 25:01When you start to face obstacles, when you start to
- 25:04have doubt, you have this mapped out plan that you can go back to
- 25:08and get support and be like, is that a part of my plan?
- 25:10Or am I trying to get more certain courses that I don't
- 25:12need? So having this plan is key.
- 25:15This plan will cut your timeline in half.
- 25:17I'm helping people who come to work with me get hired in half
- 25:21the amount of time and that is simply because they have a
- 25:23mapped out plan. I'm going to show you no matter
- 25:26where you're starting in the August Jumpstart flight course,
- 25:29what to be working on, what your exact individualized plan is.
- 25:33OK, let's talk about the third thing.
- 25:37This is not in level of importance, but I think that
- 25:39this one is a very big important thing.
- 25:43It's something I didn't do prior to getting hired in the flight
- 25:47and this is a thing that's getting people get hired before
- 25:50their three-year mark and it's so fun.
- 25:52So the third thing that you want to be focusing on to jump start
- 25:56your journey to flight is doing ride alongs and making
- 25:59connections with flight companies.
- 26:02There is a couple reasons why you want to be doing this.
- 26:05One, who doesn't want to do a ride along?
- 26:08Sit in that helicopter or airplane seat.
- 26:11You get to sit in that seat, you get a taste what it feels like
- 26:14to do the job. You get to see what it feels
- 26:16like. You get to see what the teamwork
- 26:18is like with the types of patients they have, the acuity,
- 26:22the pre hospital experience. As a nurse, I never got that
- 26:25prior to flight. I never got to do a ride along.
- 26:29Companies want you to do ride alongs, you just have to ask for
- 26:33them. I teach you inside the August
- 26:35Jumpstart Flight course exactly how to ask for a ride along and
- 26:38how to get ride along. I recommend inside my programs
- 26:42and my courses to do 6 to 8 ride alongs or making connections
- 26:45with flight companies a year. So about 3:00 to 4:00 in a six
- 26:50month period. When you learn how to start
- 26:54doing them, which I'm going to teach you inside this course,
- 26:56the August Jumpstart Flight course, you will be able to
- 27:00start doing them right away. I recommend doing one every
- 27:03other month. But I in the last jump start
- 27:05flight course that I ran, someone did 6 in one month.
- 27:10She started just reaching out to companies in the way that I told
- 27:13her how to and she did 6 right along in one month.
- 27:17Now I don't recommend that because a lot of you guys are
- 27:20working a full time job or multiple jobs and you just don't
- 27:23have the time to do that. But with the simple way that I'm
- 27:26teaching you how to do that and reach out, you have the
- 27:29opportunity to do 1 every other month.
- 27:32So if you come join the jump start, the jumps, the August
- 27:34Jumpstart flight course, we will get you one scheduled before the
- 27:37end of the month in August. The second reason why doing
- 27:42these ride alongs is so important is companies get to
- 27:45know you and you get to know them.
- 27:48I really call this process speed dating.
- 27:51Ride alongs is like speed dating.
- 27:53You want to speed date a bunch of flight companies before you
- 27:57marry them or you get an offer to them.
- 27:59Speed dating is is important because you get to know them.
- 28:03You get to know what their company values for everybody.
- 28:07We value different things. So for example, some people in
- 28:10my program value, they value education, they value teamwork,
- 28:16they value culture, they they value management and support in
- 28:21their team and in their base and in their company.
- 28:23So everybody values different things.
- 28:25And you want to think about what that is.
- 28:26I teach you exactly how to prepare for these right alongs
- 28:29and how to ask for them. And so in doing these right
- 28:33alongs, you're finding out which each of these bases, each of
- 28:35these companies value. And then the second part of this
- 28:39is they get to see you, they get to date you, they get to see
- 28:43what you value. And for everybody that is
- 28:46different. For me, it's patient rapport,
- 28:48it's highest level of thinking, it's very good teamwork at the
- 28:53highest level under pressure, it's always putting a best
- 28:57effort in and the best foot forward for me.
- 28:59And so I'm looking for that in my teams.
- 29:01For example, if I was doing ride alongs.
- 29:03So 2 reasons why ride along is so important.
- 29:06You get to sit in that helicopter seat, they get to
- 29:09know you and you get to know them.
- 29:10Ride alongs are the things that will get you an interview and
- 29:14get you an offer. Flight is so competitive that
- 29:17you do not want to wait to look for online applications and
- 29:22interviews. If you are seeing an online
- 29:24application or interview or you're waiting for that, you are
- 29:27too late. It is so competitive that those
- 29:30positions that are posted are already spoken for and they're
- 29:33spoken for people who've been doing ongoing ride alongs and
- 29:36making connections. I'm seeing flight companies now
- 29:40use ride alongs as a prerequisite to even bring you
- 29:42in for an interview. So another reason why you want
- 29:44to do that. And I'm also seeing ride alongs
- 29:47build a roster for possible candidates to do interviews 6 to
- 29:5118 months, 6 to a year and a half ahead of time before
- 29:56there's an opening. So they're creating rosters of
- 29:59people that they want to bring in for interviews and as
- 30:02applicants ahead of time. And they're doing this by ride
- 30:05along. So you want to be doing right
- 30:07along so that you get invited to these interviews so that you get
- 30:10invited before your three-year mark.
- 30:12I had someone that came to me about, oh, was it three years
- 30:17ago? And she was working float pool,
- 30:22float pool, like critical care. So I see an ER at the time and
- 30:26she's like, I'm working on getting my CEN and I'm trying to
- 30:28work critical care as much as I can.
- 30:31And I'm thinking about getting a second job at a level 1.
- 30:33And I told her, listen, we're going to cut all of that out.
- 30:36And she's like, are you serious? And I said, yes, we're going to
- 30:38get you hired in right now into either ER or ICU so you can
- 30:42focus on your leadership qualities and we're going to get
- 30:44you doing right alongs now with your matched out plan.
- 30:47And she's like, OK, let's do it. So she decided to go into an ER
- 30:52and I don't even think it was a level at all.
- 30:54ERI think it was like a smaller bed roll ER.
- 30:57She took that position full time.
- 30:58She started just doing a bunch of ride alongs and she got asked
- 31:02to sit at an interview with just one year of ER experience.
- 31:06And you ask me how that's even possible.
- 31:08And that is because she did ride along, she made connections and
- 31:11these teams were like, we really, really want her as a
- 31:14team player, as a, as a part of our team to work for our base.
- 31:18So she interviewed and they told her just come to the interview
- 31:21because we're trying to fill our roster of people ahead of time.
- 31:23We actually don't think there's going to be a position open for
- 31:26another 6 to 12 months. So six months to a year.
- 31:28And she's like, great, like I would love to sit in an
- 31:30interview. So we prepped her for the
- 31:31interview. We got her ready, she did the
- 31:33interview. They didn't really tell her
- 31:35anything after that. And then three months later, she
- 31:38got a phone call and she said, Hey, we want to offer you a
- 31:40position. And this was three months after
- 31:42doing this quote UN quote interview without an opening
- 31:45yet. And they offered her a position
- 31:47with no certification, one year of ER and just focusing on ride
- 31:52alongs and making connections and doing this interview three
- 31:55months prior to an opening happening.
- 31:58And so This is why ride alongs and making connections is so
- 32:01important. I'm going to teach you exactly
- 32:03how to go about doing this in this August Jumpstart Flight
- 32:06course so that you can secure a ride along in August and start
- 32:10doing them right away. OK.
- 32:13People who are working with me in these courses and in these
- 32:17programs, I'm noticing because they haven't mapped out plan,
- 32:21they've been doing right alongs and making connections.
- 32:23They're cutting their timelines in half.
- 32:25They're getting hired in their first one to two flight
- 32:27interviews. I am now having people who have
- 32:29worked with me since nursing school and they've cut off so
- 32:32much of their time of getting to flight.
- 32:34They've known exactly how to stay on track and they're
- 32:36getting hired in their first one to two flight interviews.
- 32:39And this is really important because flight interviews are
- 32:41few and far in between because it is so competitive.
- 32:44So being asked to be in a flight interview, let alone getting
- 32:47hired in them, is really key. And they're prepared and they're
- 32:51ready and they're transitioning more confidently into their
- 32:54flight roles, either as a flight nurse or a flight medic with a
- 32:57shorter amount of orientation. And that's just because they've
- 33:00been working on their flight mindset from day one that they
- 33:02know that they've won flight. OK, so this is the end of the
- 33:06training today. How to jumpstart your journey to
- 33:08flight. These are the three things,
- 33:10again, that you think that you need to be working on to get to
- 33:12flight time and experience. Getting certifications, taking
- 33:17more trauma courses, but these are the three things that you
- 33:20actually want to be focusing on to jump start your journey into
- 33:23flight. Working on your flight men's
- 33:25mindset. Growing your belief and
- 33:27confidence levels as you're taking actions towards flight.
- 33:31Avidly growing the momentum to get started.
- 33:34Getting off of the fence. Step 2 is mapping out your plan.
- 33:38As soon as you know you want flight nursing, you want to
- 33:41start mapping out your plan. Then I have created plan for
- 33:45people as soon as nursing school.
- 33:47So you want to start mapping out your plan and know exactly what
- 33:49steps to be taking the right steps all the way there.
- 33:52You want to be growing your confidence, critical thinking
- 33:54skills and leadership skills in this mapped out plan.
- 33:56I'm going to go over how to map out your plan individually for
- 34:00every single person who joins the August Jumpstart flight
- 34:02course. The third most important thing
- 34:05is ride alongs networking and making connections with flight
- 34:08companies. I'm going to show you exactly
- 34:10how to get ride along, how to network, how to make connections
- 34:13so you can have your first one secured in August.
- 34:17I'm gonna now talk to you guys about the August Jumpstart
- 34:20flight course and exactly what includes.
- 34:22So we talked about the three things to jumpstart your journey
- 34:25to flight, your flight mindset, mapping out your plan and doing
- 34:28ride alongs and and connecting and networking with companies.
- 34:32So in this August Jumpstart flight course that I'm taking
- 34:36enrollment for starting today, we are going to be talking about
- 34:41on day one, the flight mindset required to work towards this
- 34:44goal and be successful. How to get yourself off the
- 34:46fence, start growing your confidence and your critical
- 34:49thinking skills. How to work through the
- 34:50obstacles of I don't know enough I don't have time and enough.
- 34:53I don't have enough time and experience to get unstuck and
- 34:56start taking forward movement action with the doubt and the
- 35:00fear while not being 100% confident.
- 35:02I'm going to teach you how to grow your confidence towards
- 35:04this goal. And then I'm going to teach you
- 35:06the tools that will help you along the way.
- 35:08Because what I said in the beginning, even in the seven
- 35:11years that I flew, I was never 100% confident, but I knew I
- 35:15would always figure it out. I knew I took the doubt with me
- 35:18as we landed on every call and my team and I would always
- 35:21figure it out. So I'm going to teach you how to
- 35:23grow that flight mindset. The second day we're going to
- 35:26talk about the step by step process and how to get there.
- 35:29I'm going to help you map out your plan from nursing school or
- 35:32medic school or EMT school all the way to flight, what you
- 35:35should be working on each year and every step of the way.
- 35:38And this is workshop so you can come and ask me questions and we
- 35:41can workshop your individual plan live as well.
- 35:44The reason why you want to have a mapped out plan is so that
- 35:46you're not doing more. You guys are busy.
- 35:48You live busy lives. Some of you guys are going to
- 35:50school still while you're already nurses or medics.
- 35:53You have children, you have families, you have other
- 35:55responsibilities. So we don't want to be doing
- 35:58more. You don't want to hustle and
- 36:00overwork to get to flight. You hustle and overwork to get
- 36:02to flight. Once you get your flight offer,
- 36:03you're going to hustle over work and burnout.
- 36:06Nurses, medics, we do not want burnout.
- 36:08So I'm going to show you what to be focusing on in the step by
- 36:11step process. We're going to map out your
- 36:12individualized plan on Day 2. Day three, we're going to talk
- 36:16about how to do ride alongs, how to ask for them, how to make
- 36:20connections, how to network with light companies.
- 36:23So important. And I'm going to show you a
- 36:26simple way to do this so that in August, by the end of August,
- 36:29you can have one secured and you can start doing 1.
- 36:32Doing these ride alongs is going to be important because it's
- 36:35going to have them get to know you and you get to know them.
- 36:38It's going to put your face and your name out there and it's
- 36:42going to just, it's going to be fun.
- 36:44When you get your first ride along, you're going to be
- 36:46hooked. You're going to want to do
- 36:47another one. So that's on day three.
- 36:49You're also going to have access to a member portal.
- 36:51So I've created a member portal inside of that.
- 36:54There's going to be each video for each day.
- 36:56So if you can't make it live, that's OK.
- 36:59All the replays will be back in there.
- 37:01It's best to make it live so you can workshop your plans and how
- 37:04to do ride alongs and ask your question live.
- 37:06But I know you guys all work shift work so if you can't make
- 37:09it live that's OK. All the replays will be inside
- 37:12your member portal. You'll have your individual
- 37:14login and password and you will have lifetime access to these
- 37:19videos. This is not going to be a course
- 37:21where you just sit and watch someone talking.
- 37:23No, it's going to be highly interactive and you are going to
- 37:26have access for a lifetime to all the replays anytime that you
- 37:30want. So you're going to have that
- 37:32member portal to access the replays and watch for a
- 37:34lifetime. The second part of this August
- 37:37Jumpstart flight course that I really love, this component of
- 37:39it is that you're going to have access to a private community
- 37:42group chat. So in this group chat, you're
- 37:45going to have ongoing support through this three day course
- 37:48from the time that you joined. So let's say you joined today,
- 37:50you're going to have ongoing support in this community group
- 37:52chat to ask any questions either amongst your peers, the people
- 37:55in it or amongst me. So anything that we're covering
- 37:58in the course, you can get daily support through that.
- 38:01You are going to have access to the community group chat all the
- 38:05way till the end of September. So until September 30th, you're
- 38:08going to be able to come ask any questions as you're watching the
- 38:11replays or coming live or starting to do your ride along
- 38:14or getting prepared for your ride along.
- 38:16You have until September 30th that community group chat
- 38:20access. But again, you'll have the
- 38:22replays live for lifetime access.
- 38:24Again, it's best to come to live to each day so that we can
- 38:27workshop and it's highly interactive together.
- 38:29But if you can't, every single call will be recorded and you
- 38:33can go back and watch it. All of the courses will be
- 38:36delivered via Zoom from the comfort of your own home.
- 38:39And all of them will be 1 to 1 1/2 hours each day.
- 38:43Each call is going to be at noon Pacific Standard Time.
- 38:46And I'm going to go ahead and put the dates in the group chat
- 38:50right now so that you know, and then I'm going to say them out
- 38:52loud. Also for those of you guys who
- 38:54are are on the live, all the information is in my link in my
- 38:59bio as well, but I want to put those in there.
- 39:01So I'm going to be running this a little bit differently.
- 39:03In the past, as I've run the three day Jumpstart course, I've
- 39:06ran them as consecutive 3 days. I know that you guys are working
- 39:10shift work and you're busy. So I'm doing this a little bit
- 39:12different this time. I'm going to be running it
- 39:14starting next Friday, August 22nd.
- 39:17So next Friday, August 22nd, we're going to work on the
- 39:20mindset to have to get to flight.
- 39:22Then the second day is going to be the following Monday, August
- 39:2425th. We're going to work on the step
- 39:26by step process, mapping out your individualized plan and get
- 39:29to flight and what right actions to be taking, building your plan
- 39:32together. And then that week, that Friday,
- 39:35so it's finishing up in a week and a half, will be the
- 39:38following. The third day will be Friday,
- 39:40August 29th, and I'm going to talk about how to get ride
- 39:43alongs, make connections and network for flight companies,
- 39:46how to secure first ride along in August.
- 39:48So that's the third day and we'll finish it up on Friday,
- 39:51August 29th. Again, each session will be
- 39:54around an hour to an hour and a half and they're all going to be
- 39:57at noon Pacific Standard Time. I am offering this course for
- 40:01$97.00 only. Enrollment is going on now

- 42:47It will be highly interactive and give you plenty of time each
- 42:51day to answer any of the questions that you're bringing
- 42:53to the calls and ongoing access in the community group chat to
- 42:58ask me any questions as you're re watching the replays or
- 43:00anything comes up for you. The number one reason why it
- 43:05takes people longer or they fail even all together to get to
- 43:09flight is they just don't get started and creating momentum.
- 43:13They just wait to be on the fence and they don't work
- 43:17towards this goal. They say I'll wait or one time's
- 43:20better or when things get easier, but what I know about
- 43:24life is that life never gets less busy.
- 43:28It never gets easier. And so I'm really going to teach
- 43:31you inside the August Jumpstart Flight course how to start
- 43:34taking action now. Even in a busy life, even when
- 43:38you have a lot of things going on, without the hustling,
- 43:41without the overworking, without the burnout.
- 43:43We're going to focus on the right key steps to be taking.
- 43:48You can purchase this course if you are outside of the US.
- 43:51But this course and all my programs, I just teach the
- 43:54requirements of how to get into flight in the US.
- 43:57So we'll be covering flight requirements, US flight nurse,
- 44:00and flight medical requirements. Only you can purchase this
- 44:02course. Just know that I am only
- 44:05teaching the flight requirements in the US and all of my courses
- 44:07and programs are 100% all online, so you can access them
- 44:11there. This course is open to anyone
- 44:14interested in flight nursing or flight paramedicine, no matter
- 44:17where you are during your journey.
- 44:18So if you are an EMT, if you are a medic, if you an LVN, if
- 44:22you're a nursing student, anybody can purchase this
- 44:25course. I'm going to walk you through no
- 44:27matter where you're starting and come to live call because we'll
- 44:30get you your individual plan mapped out too, of what to be
- 44:33doing every step of the way, no matter where where you're
- 44:35working. OK, thank you.
- 44:36Someone said the link works. Thank you so much.
- 44:38OK, great. After the payments made, you're
- 44:42going to receive a confirmation e-mail with dates and
- 44:45information on how to access the course.
- 44:47You're going to get immediate access to the course right away,
- 44:50immediate access to the community group chat and you're
- 44:53going to be able to walk. Watch the welcome video.
- 44:55Before we get started next Friday, I want to end with You
- 44:59Belong in Flight. If you were like me and you had
- 45:03this nudge in nursing school that this is what you are meant
- 45:06to be doing, answer it. Because I promise you that fire
- 45:09will continue to burn. It will never go away, and it's
- 45:13going to take up so much brain space for you to go back and
- 45:16forth, back and forth, back and forth.
- 45:18Being on the fence is a lot harder than going all in, even
- 45:21if you fail. And so I want to offer you, if
- 45:24you've had this urge, if you've had this nudge, if you've had
- 45:27this fire like me, that flight is what you're meant to be
- 45:31doing, Answer it. And this is the course where I'm
- 45:34going to help you gain the confidence to move forward with
- 45:37the right actions to be taking to get you started.
- 45:40If you want it, I'm going to help you get started.
- 45:43And if you want this, I have got you finish this year strong with
- 45:47clarity towards this goal. Let's get you a ride along in
- 45:51the month of August. Give yourself the best guarantee
- 45:56of getting to flight by hiring a mentor, a course and a program
- 45:59that is going to get you on track.
- 46:01Let's get you a ride along this month and get going.
- 46:04Let's get you in the helicopter seat.
- 46:06OK, I am going to start with questions.
- 46:09So if you are just joining me either on the webinar or on
- 46:13Instagram live, I want to go through questions.
- 46:15What I am going to start with is questions that you guys e-mail
- 46:20me in. So when you registered for the
- 46:23Zoom webinar, I asked if you had any questions that you wanted me
- 46:26to cover. I'm going to go through every
- 46:28single one of those questions that you guys put there and then
- 46:30I'm going to take time to answer any questions that you guys have
- 46:33on the webinar or Instagram Live right now.
- 46:35So if you're just joining me on either, make sure if you're on
- 46:39the webinar, you're putting the questions in the Q and A box and
- 46:42I see some there already. It's great.
- 46:43And if you're on Instagram Live, make sure you're putting them in
- 46:45the question box below. I'm going to get to those.
- 46:47So I'm going to start first with the ones that you guys emailed
- 46:50me in and you submitted when you when you signed up for this
- 46:54webinar, because I want to get to all those people and these
- 46:56are common questions that I hear all the time.
- 46:59So we'll start there. The first one is should I get
- 47:03pre hospital training? This is a very common question.
- 47:06This goes along with getting all this time and experience.
- 47:09So when I interviewed for flight, I had zero pre hospital
- 47:12training. I if you are a nurse, pre
- 47:16hospital training is not needed. I highly recommend not getting
- 47:19it because you're going to learn pre hospital training.
- 47:22Once you get hired in the flight.
- 47:23This is just going to take you longer and it's not needed.
- 47:29So don't spend time getting pre hospital training.
- 47:32Get your ride alongs. This is going to give you pre
- 47:33hospital training. Ride alongs.
- 47:35You're going to see what it's like to be a pre hospital nurse
- 47:37and a pre hospital medic. So don't get pre hospital
- 47:40training. It's just going to take you
- 47:41longer. On the hand, do ride alongs to
- 47:43get that type of training. OK, second question, if they
- 47:47don't offer ride alongs, then what?
- 47:49Great question. So in this course I'm going to
- 47:52teach you not only how to ask for ride alongs, but how to make
- 47:55connections, how to get base visits, how to go to community
- 47:59service events. These are the things that you
- 48:01want to be doing. So in the months of summer or
- 48:06like really spring all the way to summer, that's usually the
- 48:09busiest time right now for flight companies.
- 48:13The company I worked for, we had three aircrafts at which is so
- 48:16cool. We had a Pilatus and two
- 48:17helicopters and what was great about that is we ran about 120
- 48:22calls a month in the summer month, which was perfect.
- 48:26This is a perfect time to be doing ride alongs because
- 48:28companies are running so many calls.
- 48:30It also is hot. So depending on where you live,
- 48:32it's 105 here in California. So that depends on where you
- 48:36live if you can do a ride along as well.
- 48:39So that's why I recommend networking and doing base visits
- 48:41as well. I teach you how to do that.
- 48:43So ride alongs are always the the only thing that you want to
- 48:46be doing. Doing base visits and doing
- 48:48community outreach events with them is important.
- 48:50And they do lots of these. I teach you where to get started
- 48:52with those and how to do those. But again, you want to be doing
- 48:55all of these 6 to 8 a year. So three to four in a six month
- 48:59period. I'm going to teach you exactly
- 49:00how to get started with that. And most people when they ask me
- 49:04what if they don't do ride alongs, it really is a trigger
- 49:07for me that they're not asking enough companies.
- 49:09You want to reach out to so many companies so that it doesn't
- 49:12matter if you get five Nos, you're gonna get one, yes, And
- 49:15that's gonna get you into doing a ride along.
- 49:18And you're gonna just keep asking when you can go back and
- 49:20ask them. So that's really not a problem
- 49:24because you're gonna be wanting to do base visits and community
- 49:26outreach events. I'm gonna teach you exactly how
- 49:28to do that. OK, next question.
- 49:31Do I commute far to get this experience?
- 49:34And I think there's two ways I want to answer this.
- 49:38Do you commute far to get ride along experience?
- 49:40Do you commute far to get a flight job?
- 49:43And this is one thing we're going to talk about inside the
- 49:45August Jumpsite course because this is what stops a lot of
- 49:48people from getting started is they're unsure how far they want
- 49:51to go. Radius is a big thing.
- 49:53So we help you get really clear on how far you want to go for
- 49:56these ride alongs, these connections, how far you want to
- 49:58go for a flight offer or for a flight company.
- 50:01So big thing is we're going to talk about radius and for
- 50:04everybody, the comfortability of that is very different.
- 50:06So we're going to get you clear on that decision and then kind
- 50:09of go from there. I hope that answers the question
- 50:12about do I need to commute? So you don't need to commute,
- 50:14you just need to decide how far you want to go.
- 50:16And I help you do that inside the Jumpstart Flight course.
- 50:19OK, nursing students, I work with a ton of nursing students.
- 50:22And it's because I say over and over and over again, nursing
- 50:26school is when I knew that I wanted flight.
- 50:28And so because of that, I've created an entire path just for
- 50:32nursing students on how to cut their timeline in half, what to
- 50:34focus on in nursing school, how to start taking action towards
- 50:38it's now. And you guys can start doing
- 50:40ride alongs now and base visits as nursing students, which is so
- 50:44cool. I didn't know you could do that.
- 50:46But doing that will help you give so get you so much more.
- 50:49It's an anchor and that this is what you want to do.
- 50:52It also just gets you clear on your path.
- 50:54You go to your critical care clinicals, you're an ICU and
- 50:58you're like on fire. You're like ready for it because
- 51:00you know that's where you want to be.
- 51:01You have clarity of what your path is.
- 51:03This helps cut my nursing school students who come to work with
- 51:07me in nursing school, their timeline in half because they
- 51:09have a mapped up plan. They're already taking action
- 51:11towards it. They're getting hired straight
- 51:13into critical care. And I always tell them do not
- 51:17stair step either. The common air most people take
- 51:20is they're like, well, just do Med search for one to two years,
- 51:22then move into critical care. That is harder to do.
- 51:25So you want to get hired in critical care right away.
- 51:28And I really talk about why and how to start doing that as a
- 51:32nursing student inside the school.
- 51:34So if you're a nursing student, join so we can get your, your
- 51:36plan mapped out and you can start cutting your timeline in
- 51:38half. OK, next question, how do you
- 51:41get prepared? What are the requirements and
- 51:44how to find a job as a flight nurse?
- 51:46OK, so I'm going to answer these individually.
- 51:48How to get prepared is to take this Jumpstart flight course.
- 51:50I'm going to teach you the first three things to get started.
- 51:53Your mindset, how to prepare for that, map out your plan no
- 51:56matter where you're starting so you're taking the right actions
- 51:58and you have a built out plan to see on track.
- 52:01And three, how to start getting in that helicopter seat now,
- 52:04doing right alongs making connections with flight
- 52:05companies, you getting to know them and they're getting to know
- 52:08you. The requirements are three years
- 52:11ER or ICU. You do not need both.
- 52:14You do not need pediatric, you do not need cardiac experience.
- 52:17You can have any specialty of ER or ICU.
- 52:20It can be a rural bed, Erisu or a level 1 and everything in
- 52:22between. So the requirements is just
- 52:24three years, ER, you to be able to apply and get hired.
- 52:29Now I want to say that with a caveat because if you're working
- 52:32with me inside my courses or inside my programs, I'm helping
- 52:36people get hired prior to the three-year mark.
- 52:38And the reason is they've had a mapped out plan.
- 52:41They've been taking the right steps.
- 52:43They've cut their timeline in half.
- 52:44They've been asked to interviews before positions have been
- 52:47opened and they've been hired before the three-year mark.
- 52:50So if you're inside my courses and programs, I'm actually
- 52:54telling you to start preparing for flight interviews at the 2
- 52:571/2 year mark and start applying at the 2 1/2 year mark because
- 53:00that's around the time I'm helping you get hired before the
- 53:02three-year mark. So great question.
- 53:06How to find a job. I covered this, but I'm going to
- 53:08say it again. How to find a job is not relying
- 53:11on open availability or open applications online.
- 53:15Those positions are already spoken for and they're spoken
- 53:18for people who've been doing right along to making
- 53:20connections every time there is a posted online, most like 95
- 53:26percent of the time if there's a posted online position that
- 53:28positions already been spoken for.
- 53:30So you want to be asked to these interviews prior and that's by
- 53:33doing these right alongs and making connections.
- 53:35So that's how you get hired is following this three simple
- 53:38plan. Where do I begin after
- 53:40graduation? Great question You want to begin
- 53:43in critical care. What I recommend and if you come
- 53:45to work with me both inside my courses and in my program, I
- 53:48recommend you get an offer for critical care three to six
- 53:51months prior to getting graduating nursing school.
- 53:55I got an ITU critical care position signed an offer six
- 53:59months prior to graduating. This ensures you that you get a
- 54:02critical care position as a new grad.
- 54:04I really talk about student intern positions inside the
- 54:07Jumpstart Flight course and why they're so important and how to
- 54:10navigate getting one. While you're a student nurse.
- 54:12You want to go directly into critical care after graduation.
- 54:16You want to start confidently getting a mentor and coaching so
- 54:20that you can grow your confidence into this new role.
- 54:22Go from student nurse to critical care nurse, which is a
- 54:24whole different ball game. And then also start doing right
- 54:27alongs and have your plan mapped out.
- 54:29So that's where you want to begin.
- 54:30We're going to talk about that if you are a nursing student
- 54:33inside the August Jumpstart Flight course.
- 54:35OK, why three years experience prior to applying?
- 54:39Someone else asked. You want the three years
- 54:41experience because flight companies are really looking at
- 54:43you, growing your critical thinking skills.
- 54:46Critical thinking skills are big in flight because there is no
- 54:49way prior to getting into flight nursing or flight paramedicine
- 54:53that you've seen all the gamut of calls.
- 54:54There just isn't. I never had cardiac device
- 54:58experience. I never had pediatric
- 55:00experience. I never had a high risk maternal
- 55:03OB experience prior to flight. And like I said, I, I think the
- 55:07ICU that I worked at was either a Level 3 or a level 4.
- 55:10So I didn't see a ton of trauma experience, a ton of different
- 55:13patient diagnosis. But critical thinking is the
- 55:16thing that's going to help you always figure it out.
- 55:19So that's why three years of either ERICUR, critical care
- 55:23department or as a paramedic is so important because you grow
- 55:29your critical thinking skills, meaning whatever is thrown at
- 55:32you on any call or any mission that you run, you're going to be
- 55:35able to think it out, figure it out because you tap into your
- 55:38critical thinking skills. And that was one thing that I
- 55:41felt like I really bought, brought to the industry was my
- 55:45ability to work well under pressure and really see the
- 55:50bigger picture when a lot of things were going on.
- 55:53So that's why it does require the three years of experience
- 55:56prior to applying. But again, the caveat is you
- 55:58work with me in semi courses, in semi programs.
- 56:01I'm helping you get hired before the three years.
- 56:04OK, Next question. How many years do flight nurses
- 56:07stay on flight duty? I think the question for this is
- 56:10like, what's the typical lifespan of a flight nurse?
- 56:15And honestly, if they're doing it for seven years, I noticed
- 56:18that the typical lifespan for most nurses is 2 to three years.
- 56:21And I'm going to tell you why. The typical lifespan for flight
- 56:25nurses was two to three years because they burnt out.
- 56:28I watched dozens of people who I trained hustle and overwork
- 56:33getting into this flight position.
- 56:35And then when they got to flight, they hustled, overworked
- 56:37and they burnt themselves out. And so I'm really teaching you
- 56:41inside my program, how do you not burn out?
- 56:44How do you not hustle overwork? How do you get clear and take
- 56:46the right simple, doable actions that work with your life and cut
- 56:51out all the fluff? So that's why I think flight
- 56:55nurses half life is so short. But I did it for seven years and
- 56:59to be honest, I would have done it until I retired.
- 57:02The only reason why I retired is because I found life coaching
- 57:06tools and I really found that I wanted to help more people get
- 57:09into this industry, get to this goal, who wanted it and created
- 57:12this program. And that's the only reason why I
- 57:14left flight. It was the best job ever.
- 57:16And I still tell my friends, family and kids, I'm like, Oh my
- 57:18gosh, I miss it so much. I go on a run every single
- 57:22morning. And a lot of times they're
- 57:24flying over to the hospital and running a call where I run and
- 57:28I'm like, Oh my gosh, I miss, I miss the job and I miss the
- 57:31team. I miss the teamwork and the Q2
- 57:33patient so much. So you're able to have a
- 57:37longevity of flight nursing for flight paramedicine for however
- 57:40long you want, but you don't want to burn out ahead of time.
- 57:43So I'm going to show you how to do that, how not to burn out.
- 57:48Next question, what's the best experience you came ICURER
- 57:53another common question I already answered that doesn't
- 57:55matter if it's ICUERI always offer for you to choose the
- 57:59critical care department that you're most excited about.
- 58:03The one you're most excited about doing is the one where
- 58:05your critical thinking skills are going to grow so much.
- 58:07So choose the specialty PEDs, adult trauma, burn, whatever it
- 58:12is that you're most interested in and go that direction. 1 is
- 58:17not better than the other. Do ride alongs of flight crews
- 58:20help your chances? Yes, I already talked about
- 58:22that. Why ride alongs are so
- 58:23important? You get to know them, they get
- 58:25to know you. That's how you get invited to
- 58:27flight interviews ahead of time. Someone put when should I apply?
- 58:31You want to start applying at the 2 1/2 year mark.
- 58:33You're working with me inside my programs.
- 58:35I'm getting you hired before the three-year mark.
- 58:36So I really say start applying at the 2 1/2 year mark working
- 58:42as an RN, but I have medic experience.
- 58:44Oh, I wanted to address this because I do work with a lot of
- 58:48medics who are now going to nursing school.
- 58:51The the thing that I want to offer you for this is if you
- 58:54have been a medic for three plus years, we can get you in into
- 58:58flight companies as a flight medic while you're in nursing
- 59:02school. And there are some flight
- 59:03companies that will transition you automatically into a flight
- 59:07nurse role after graduation without having to do in hospital
- 59:10nurse experience. I'm going to say that again, if
- 59:14you are a medic who has three years, there are flight
- 59:17companies that will hire you as a flight medic and then after
- 59:22you graduate nursing school will transition you to a flight nurse
- 59:25position after graduation. There's some caveats to that.
- 59:29There's some companies where like you have to be doing it six
- 59:31months or years of flight medic before they're transition you.
- 59:34But I, I, I want to offer you that if you are a medic and
- 59:37you're going to nursing school, I've helped lots of medics get
- 59:40hired as a flight medic and then transition into a flight nurse
- 59:43position without having to do hospital.
- 59:45So if that's you, I'm going to talk about that inside of this
- 59:47course too. And you have plenty of time to
- 59:49ask me in the community group chat or on any of the calls how
- 59:52to navigate that. OK, next question, what is the
- 59:56process and what certs do I need?
- 59:58I talked about the three-step process, flight mindset, mapping
- 1:00:01out your plan earlier on as soon as you want it and doing ride
- 1:00:03alongs and making connections. And you do not need, again, any
- 1:00:06certification. You do not need your CEN, you do
- 1:00:09not need your CCRN, you do not need your CFRN 0 certification
- 1:00:12to get hired with most light companies in the United States.
- 1:00:17This was another one that someone asked me as a new grad
- 1:00:19nurse. So I'm just going to kind of
- 1:00:21address this like a little bit differently.
- 1:00:23As a new grad nurse, you want to be working critical care, you
- 1:00:25don't want to stair step again, you don't want to do Med surge
- 1:00:28and then go to critical care. You can get hired as a new grad
- 1:00:31nurse in critical Care now, right after graduation.
- 1:00:36And I'm going to really talk about the importance of that
- 1:00:37inside the course and how to start working towards that.
- 1:00:41And then also as a new grad nurse, you just want to have
- 1:00:43your plan mapped out. You want to transition
- 1:00:44confidently, of course, into your unit and you want to start
- 1:00:47doing ride alongs too as well. I help you kind of navigate
- 1:00:50doing that and what's the time period?
- 1:00:52Because sometimes it's really hard to navigate a new position
- 1:00:55while also learning how to do ride along.
- 1:00:57So I help you really how to map that plan out and start doing
- 1:01:00that. But as a new grand nurse, if you
- 1:01:02know you want flight, there's certain things you want to start
- 1:01:04working on as well. Someone put that they don't know
- 1:01:07where to start. And this particular person was
- 1:01:10in Texas. And I just want to let you know,
- 1:01:12I, I've, I've helped actually a lot of people in Texas get
- 1:01:15hired. I, I have a lot of clients who
- 1:01:17kind of work with me in Texas. There's a lot of flight
- 1:01:19companies this year in flight and one of the person, the one
- 1:01:23who just had the one year of ER experience with no search, she
- 1:01:25was from Texas as well. I helped her get hired into a
- 1:01:28rotor company and a rotor base. But if you don't know where to
- 1:01:31start, come join us instead. The August Jumpstart flight
- 1:01:33course. That's where we're going to get
- 1:01:35started. Someone else put their thinking
- 1:01:39about it. I've addressed this already, but
- 1:01:40I just want to reinforce, you don't have to feel 100%
- 1:01:44confident before getting started.
- 1:01:45Confidence is built after you get started, so you want to
- 1:01:49learn to take that fear that dealt with you and take action
- 1:01:52anyway. You will do this on every single
- 1:01:54call that you run. So you got to get off the fence
- 1:01:57and you got to start taking action and being committed to
- 1:02:00this. When you start to commit, you
- 1:02:02will gain momentum, your mental capacity will grow, and you will
- 1:02:06start having more confidence as you're deciding and as you're
- 1:02:10committing and as you're taking action.
- 1:02:12And I just want to offer you guys like, I like the version of
- 1:02:15me that commits and goes all in. Even if I fail, fail.
- 1:02:18It takes me more brain space and more power to be uncommitted, to
- 1:02:22be on the fence and to go back and forth in my mind over and
- 1:02:25over again. Commit, go all in, fail, get
- 1:02:27back up. Just be the person who goes,
- 1:02:30commits and goes all in. You again, don't have to be 100%
- 1:02:32confident, but decide that you want flight and go all in in it.
- 1:02:35When do you want to start? You want to start as soon as you
- 1:02:38know you want flight, even if it's in nursing school before
- 1:02:41nursing school. Map out your plan.
- 1:02:42Get started. We're going to cut your timeline
- 1:02:44in half. So if you're in someone put if
- 1:02:47you're in Med school, where do you start?
- 1:02:49You want to start now As soon as know you know you want it,
- 1:02:51that's when you want to get started.
- 1:02:53OK, that was all the questions that you guys emailed me in as
- 1:02:58you signed up for this course. I hope you guys are registered
- 1:03:00who are on right now. If you're on this live and you
- 1:03:04join the August Jumpstart flight course, you are getting the
- 1:03:07flight resume course for free as well.
- 1:03:08Just stand me and let me know that you joined or e-mail me
- 1:03:11back with your confirmation e-mail.
- 1:03:13I am now going to answer any questions that you guys have
- 1:03:19both on the Zoom and on the live.
- 1:03:21So let's start with people on Zoom.
- 1:03:27What do companies look for at a quick glance of resume if
- 1:03:30they're not focused on years, time and experience that digs
- 1:03:32deeper on the candidates, the person's value.
- 1:03:34It seems like HR does a quick glance and then you get an
- 1:03:37actual interview. You can share who you really
- 1:03:38are. OK, again, flight companies, you
- 1:03:40don't want to rely on getting an interview and any recruiters or
- 1:03:43anybody looking at it. You're going to get interviews
- 1:03:45through doing ride alongs and being invited to interviews
- 1:03:48prior to there being an opening. If you join this course, you are
- 1:03:51going to get an in depth workshop.
- 1:03:53It's an hour long with a mock resume on it that teaches you
- 1:03:57what to focus on your resume. And I'm just going to give you a
- 1:03:59quick rundown. Flight resumes, you're really
- 1:04:02focusing on leadership qualities and what kind of team player you
- 1:04:05are, who you are, what you value and the person that you are.
- 1:04:08I teach you in this flight resume course how to focus on
- 1:04:12leadership qualities. That is what they're looking for
- 1:04:14and exactly wording to be putting in there.
- 1:04:16So that's what you want to be focusing on.
- 1:04:18So thanks for asking that question.
- 1:04:20You join on this course, you're going to get that flight resume
- 1:04:23course for free to with the mock resume to kind of look at as
- 1:04:26you're going through it. What about companies that don't
- 1:04:30do ride alongs? I think I answered that you not
- 1:04:32only want to be doing ride alongs, but you want to be doing
- 1:04:34base visits. You can ask for base visits, You
- 1:04:35can ask for community outreach events.
- 1:04:37I'm going to teach you inside this course how not only to ask
- 1:04:40for ride alongs, but how to prepare for base visits,
- 1:04:43community outreach events. You can be doing just as many of
- 1:04:45those as ride alongs. And usually people are asking me
- 1:04:48this questions because they're not asking enough companies for
- 1:04:50ride alongs. So you want to be asking so many
- 1:04:52companies that this isn't even a thought that comes up for you
- 1:04:55because as many companies as you're asking, you're still
- 1:04:57getting right alongs with that with how many you're asking
- 1:05:00you're still getting and scheduling and doing them.
- 1:05:03Once you learn the process having to do that.
- 1:05:05Just like I said, I had someone who did the last jump start
- 1:05:07flight course who did 6 right alongs in one month and it was
- 1:05:12just cuz she didn't take no for an answer.
- 1:05:14And we navigated how to keep continuing out and asking for
- 1:05:17them and how to go about doing them.
- 1:05:19And I want you guys to know, just because you haven't heard
- 1:05:21anything doesn't mean it's a no. You sometimes you're going to
- 1:05:23have to ask 3/4. I had someone ask five times
- 1:05:26who's currently in my program and she just got a ride along.
- 1:05:29So you wanted to be willing to ask over and over and over
- 1:05:31again, even if the answer is no. But again, usually people are
- 1:05:34asking that question because they're not asking enough
- 1:05:36companies. And they're not only asking for
- 1:05:38ride, they're only asking for ride alongs.
- 1:05:39I'm going to teach you how to ask for other things too, so
- 1:05:42that you can get to know companies and they can get to
- 1:05:43know you. OK, I'm going to answer any
- 1:05:46questions right now that might be on the Instagram Live.
- 1:05:53How do you approach current flight nurses about doing raw
- 1:05:55logs? We're going to talk about that
- 1:05:57in the August Jumpstart flight course.
- 1:05:58Those are the first people you want to start with.
- 1:06:00The crews that come in, you want to directly ask them for a ride
- 1:06:04along and you have to be willing to feel uncomfortable.
- 1:06:06That's what we're going to talk about.
- 1:06:07You got to have willing to feel discomfort.
- 1:06:10I have this new thought that I've been really practicing this
- 1:06:13month is and I wrote it down on my here's some to read to.
- 1:06:16Successful people are willing to do what most people aren't.
- 1:06:20Successful people are willing to do what most people aren't.
- 1:06:24Also, people who get into flight are just willing to do what most
- 1:06:27people aren't. They're willing to be annoying.
- 1:06:29They're willing to feel discomfort.
- 1:06:30They're willing to go at it even though they have doubt and fear.
- 1:06:33They're willing to be uncomfortable to ask the hard
- 1:06:35question. They're willing to ask over and
- 1:06:37over again. They're willing to take no for
- 1:06:39an answer. And then the second thought that
- 1:06:41I have too is successful people are willing to feel what most
- 1:06:44people don't. And that again goes with willing
- 1:06:47to feel fear, willing to feel doubt, willing to feel
- 1:06:50discomfort and uncomfortable, willing to feel annoying.
- 1:06:53Successful people and people who get into flight are willing to
- 1:06:56feel those things. So it's getting out there
- 1:06:59directly asking. I teach you inside this course
- 1:07:01that asking direct flight nurses and flight crews is the number
- 1:07:05one place to start, especially if they're coming into your unit
- 1:07:07or you know someone. So I'm going to teach you
- 1:07:09exactly how to go about doing that in the August Jumpstart
- 1:07:12Flight course. Also, is a PHRN before applying
- 1:07:15to flight program required? No, it's not required.
- 1:07:18If your particular flight company requires it, they will
- 1:07:20pay for you to get it. Most companies do not need a
- 1:07:23PHRN or and if they do, they'll pay for you to have it.
- 1:07:26And again, if they really, really, really like you and you
- 1:07:30don't have a requirement that's in the application, that's OK.
- 1:07:34I've helped dozens of people get hired who don't have the
- 1:07:37requirement, but they loved them so much.
- 1:07:39They wanted them to be a team member so much that they just
- 1:07:44went ahead, offered them the position, and they paid for them
- 1:07:46to get their EMT or paid for them to get their PHRN if that
- 1:07:50was required. But again, most companies, the
- 1:07:52United States don't require any of those things.
- 1:07:56OK, I think I hit all the questions on the Instagram Live
- 1:08:00and in the zoom. I hope that you guys have joined
