Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcome into Duval, daily presented by Jimjag.com and fueled by brass tax coffee.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: It is Sunday, August 2nd.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Just got back from Jaguar's training camp practice number four.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't have full pads on today, but we'll have full pads starting Monday.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: We pretty exciting stuff, but this was a this was an entertaining practice to say the very least.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think that we'd be remiss if we didn't start with Travis Hunter.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: Who has been
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: playing well and has had solid practices and has been going back and forth between corner and wide receiver consistently, like sometimes back to back plays.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: Today though was that day where it was like, he was the star of the show.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: It is what it is.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Interception, big time interception, not a smart throw by Nick Mullins into triple coverage, but Travis Hunter came down with the interception, and then he also had a big grab contested grab downfield, and he also had a play early in practice where he just got wide open down the field.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Lawrence may have been sacked on that one, by BJ Green, but you know.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was still Travis Hunter getting wide open.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: So three huge plays, and then doing a good job throughout the rest of practice as well.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams did catch a pass on him down the field.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: It looks, CJ Williams is a good player.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: It was not called, but it very easily could have been called offensive passenger fans.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: Me and my guy Travis Holmes were standing right there and was it a full arm extension?
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: probably.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably one that gets called, but they don't always get called.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: So you just never know kind of how that will end up going or how that would go if it was a real game, whatever, but still was in good position.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams made a nice play.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's continued his strong camp.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: The rookie, why did you see Rattiff stand for the Jaguar's drafted late, but
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter just make that was the first time in a training camp practice that Travis Hunter's gotten in their interception and it was Quentin Morris was there it was really again just not a good decision by Nick Mullins to throw that football in my opinion but Travis Hunter capitalized on it in a big way so awesome to see him just kind of hitting the ground running here in camp.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: and having a really big day on both sides of the ball.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: We can also talk about obviously the Jaguars, I shouldn't say obviously, he might not have seen this, but the Jaguars they waived, wide receiver Ben Patterson, who was at bottom of the Deptharch type of guy and signed linebacker Jared Bartlett, who he's been around the league,
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: Few different teams, 20, 25, but it was waived recently last week, and the Jaguar has decided they wanted to go ahead and add him to the linebacker group.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's a bottom of the roster type of deal.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Rodriguez, good news for Chris Rodriguez.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: He is participating now in team.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: Before today, he had been doing individual work and then during team off to the side.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Today, he got some reps and team and he had a nice run.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: He had one really nice run, Poppy.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't getting as much work as facial tutors and some of the other guys, because again, I think they're gonna like not.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: put a full workload on him on his first day, you know, doing teamwork, but he looked good.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's a great sign for the Jaguar as with potentially having a two, three-headed monster at running back with basal Tutan who had another very strong day.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's so easy to see that he is playing with more confidence that he did last year and running well.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: He has
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: at least one nice run and when I say nice I mean where he definitely gets to the second level and probably gets to the third level has at least one of those every single practice and you're not seeing that nearly as consistently from anyone else.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, facial tuteness is doing a really good job.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: Christian Braswell still doing work off to the side during teamwork, he's doing the individual stuff, but not doing any team yet, and obviously some young guys are capitalizing on that like to Barman Hamid, so that'll be an interesting situation for sure.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: Colby and Lane are still working off to the side.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Liam Cohen has said that he expects him to be good to go for a week one, or that's like the goal, and he feels good about that, and
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: I feel good about that as well.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a doctor, but I feel confident in that one too.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars and their online, they continue to kind of move things around, shift the offensive line, put guys at different spots.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: They're saying, you know, the reason for that is they want guys to be cross-trained, they want guys to have experience at all the different spots that they could potentially have to play during a game should there be an injury, right?
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, um,
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of run in this game, in this practice I should say, a lot of run for sure.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: They've been heavy emphasis on running the football, defending the run, running the football.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's been the big emphasis so far in camp, obviously they're still throwing it too.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of run in this one, a lot of stalemates.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: lot of, you know, tackles at the line of scrimmage, maybe run stuff, you would call it, but again, basultooting popped multiple times.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Rodriguez popped multiple times.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right, excuse me, one time.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, a lot of stalemates, but overall, I still think you feel good about what you see from basultooting, no question, and Chris Rodriguez.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: saw Danny Strigo have a big run stuff and we'll get to Trevor because I mean Trevor had a really good day as well today.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get through some of this other stuff and then get to Trevor Lawrence.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: Danny Strigo had a big run stuff.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's been very competitive Eric Armstrong's dead had multiple plays where he really kind of
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: took advantage of young talent and Emmanuel Pregnant and had himself a day, so that was cool.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: We did see a fall start on offense, the only reason I actually wanted to bring that up is because there's been very little issues from a pre-snap standpoint.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: And this training camp so far, which is a far cry from last year, there was so much
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, false starts and movement and that creeped into the regular season for quite a while.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: But the Jaguar has cleaned it up down the stretch during the regular season and it's carried over and they've been doing a good job pre-snap with all that stuff.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: So that's obviously a good sign.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Payne, it was his loudest day so far of training camp and he's a young player, rookie, undrafted for agent who makes a lot of plays out there.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: offseason program.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Made a lot of place to that.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think he had three catches today in team and he's one of those guys.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't expect him to make the roster, but I do think he'll probably play well during preseason and probably be a practice squad guy for the Jaguars and somebody they can potentially develop.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Tanner Koziel, that's a rookie who will be on the team and a fifth round pick and he had another nice grab today, just continues to show up and catch the football when it's thrown his way.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned CJ Williams, he continued his strong camp, Trevon had a would-be sack at least one.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's, again, been challenged by Liam Cohen to dominate and I think that you've
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: young, diminutive, you could say, receive her number zero.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's made some plays and he had a really nice contested catch today.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Cam Little, I believe, was five of five during team on field goal tries.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: I saw Ventral Miller get another run stuff today.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, water is wet.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's always happening, right?
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, a lot of guys show out.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: And we can talk about now the Jaguar's first team passing offense.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm obviously heard about Travis Hunter.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: He had a couple catches from Trevor Lawrence deep down the field.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Love to see that.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: Jacobi Myers, little up and down.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Again, he had another drop today.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: It was not an easy catch, but I definitely think it qualifies as a drop.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Over the shoulder did have to go to the, like it was a really well-placed football, you know, going down the field, Trevor Lawrence put it right over his shoulder, and he got both hands on it, but couldn't catch it through the ground, unfortunately.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: So to me that is a drop, but other than that he played very well, a little bit uncharacteristic seems you could be Myers not come down with something like that, but it does happen and I expect him to continue to work through that and play good ball, but just something of note.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter, again, the two catches from Trevor Lawrence, deep down the field,
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: He almost had a really nice catch deep down the field had it secured, but then 31 who I think is Kenny H. Lovely popped it out as the, as, as Brian Thomas Jr. was going to the ground.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Could it have been a little bit better placed, maybe?
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like to wear it would have been easier for BT to get it, catch it in stride, et cetera, yeah, probably, but still one that BT would like to have caught.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think you definitely say that.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: Other than that, Trevor Lawrence had a, and again, neither of those were really on Trevor, but really, really strong day.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: He was 10 of 16.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Again, one of those was a drop by Jacobi Myers.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: You had the play where BT probably could have hauled it in, probably would have liked to have hauled it in.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was diamond at though to Parker Washington had a, I mean, final play of team for the starting, starting offense.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: He hit Parker Washington and stride deep down the field for a touchdown.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: That was a thing of beauty.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Parker Washington is having a great camp.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I said before camp started.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think Parker Washington is going to lead the Jaguars and catches.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: I still very much think that.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: He is the most consistent performer in the passing game.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: Britain's Strange got open today and had a nice catch down the field from Trevor, Trevor did miss Britain's Strange on one throw.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: So that's one you could talk up to Trevor not being super accurate on that one, but overall really, really good day for the starting passing offense in my opinion.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of plays by a lot of the best players again.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: BT caught several passes, Parker Washington caught several passes, Travis Hunter caught a couple, Jacoby caught a cut.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: a couple had the one drop but good good stuff for the starting passing offense and this is just a very competitive well balanced team in my opinion.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's good depth and most spots.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there's good starting talent, a professional talent and most spots.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: And you're seeing that and you're seeing the bump from being in year two.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: compared to what you saw at this time last year.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the Jaguars in a very good spot that will continue practice tomorrow.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now Trevor Lawrence, his counting stats, will update that right now.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: He was 27 of 43 coming into today with seven touchdowns and two interceptions.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: He completed 10 passes today, so you're at 37 completions.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that this is super valuable to note, but a lot of fans like to have this, so I'm keeping track of it.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: He had 43 attempts before today.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: He had 16 today, so what is that?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: 59.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: So 37 of 59, eight touchdowns, two interceptions, was not intercepted today.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Really wasn't close to being intercepted at any point today.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Very dialed in 37 over 59.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's right, at like 63% just under 63% with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: Good stuff.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Good stuff.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate you all being here.
