I think we are recording. Go ahead and start. [laughs] I didn't practice an intro. Uh, [laughs] we're... No tunes today. We're just doing it raw.
• 0:12
[laughs] We're really getting a long way. [laughs] Yeah. Welcome to, uh, Chewie's Salon Chair number, uh, 27?
• 0:29
Ish I believe. 27-ish, yeah. Okay. Yeah. Uh, let's get back to... Okay, thank you for the introduction whoever the fuck that was. [laughs] So as you can tell,
• 0:41
uh, the first time I phone this, I called everybody I could think of. I... Yeah. [laughs] I got a call. Did I call you too? I- You're welcome.
• 0:48
You guys were at the bar when you came in f- after a fire drill, and you guys were sitting there. Laughing our asses off. Tell, tell me about how this works. Were you- Oh, God... still in the bar when you picked up? Yes.
• 0:57
[laughs] Oh, that's great. [laughs] So the whole fire department heard all of that? [laughs] Yeah. I'm like, "What the fuck is this? You guys wanna hear this?" [laughs] You were on speaker. Yep.
• 1:04
Well, and it, and it did not work on everybody's phone. If you- if they called in, it doesn't work. Oh. And they just, then they listen, like, like, "What is wrong with you, you fools?
• 1:11
Just your voice just saying stupid shit." [laughs] And then [laughs] and I'm just on the other end. I, like, put it on there. I was laughing so freaking hard, it was ridiculous. So as you can tell, um, we're in Decorah.
• 1:22
Um, had to come down and loan my stuff to, uh, Sav's kids. They were doing a, a, a thing for school. It's, uh... Joe Rogan was interviewing, um, [smacks lips] Shakespeare characters. So it was, it was really fun.
• 1:36
They were doing a really good job. So we, I figured I'll give Spinner a call, and Shannon then came over, and we decided to do a podcast and play with this new system. I have the new RODECaster. Um, it's not...
• 1:46
It's really nice. It's got way more stuff on it than I need. I, uh- So many lights. Oh, yeah, they're so pre- Very pretty... Everybody says, "[gasps] They're so pretty." [laughs] Yeah.
• 1:54
It reminds me of, like, a Light Bright. Remember the Light Brights? Oh, yeah. The little pegs that light up? Yeah. That's what that reminds me of. I'm sure that's what they were going for. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 2:00
[laughs] Just out there. But it, it, like, it... [dog barks] Was that the dogs? Yeah, they're barking at somebody. I think so. Oh, good Lord. Well, that's normal for a podcast.
• 2:08
Um, I really don't even have anything planned. I just thought let's bunch and step over. I can't remember last time we did a show. Um, I did one with Kayla just to get something going. I heard that one.
• 2:16
And then, and then I sold my old system, so our, uh- Yeah...
• 2:21
one of our, one of our parents on our hockey team bought my old podcasting system, is using it for live streaming, streaming our high school games that ended last night. Oh, the season's over? Yeah, we lost 2 to...
• 2:33
uh, in overtime to, uh, Lakeville North- Mm... in the semifinals, so we're done. So- I saw Mayo Wrestling's going to state. Yeah, yeah. It's been a while. I wrestled with, uh, Art.
• 2:43
Uh, he wrestled at Luther, uh- Oh, really?... a year, one year older than me. Yeah. He got... No. Whose coach? Who's his assistant? Uh, Luke T's. Luke T's got, uh, assistants coach of the year for Minnesota.
• 2:53
And Art Trimble, the head coach, got head coach of the year. Oh, he did? I didn't see that part. Yeah, it's great, yeah. Okay. Yeah. If you're AAA... AAA? AA? Um- I think they're AAA... they're, they're AAA, I think.
• 3:02
Yeah. Yeah. How many, how many is, how many are there in Minnesota? Five? Uh, just the three. Uh, A- Mm. But right now I assume it's AA, AA, and AAA. And singly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
• 3:13
I, I- Glendale was, like, smaller than that. [laughs] I don't know. Well, yeah, I, I... the whole thing is kind of a mess. Like, we were even talking about high school hockey.
• 3:20
Now, there's teams that have to play in AA, so there's AA and singly in high school. Yeah. But it goes by the population of your school. Yeah. So there's, like a St... It's called St. Paul United.
• 3:30
It's six high schools put together. Mm. So they have to play AA because it's the population of all the high schools together. Just there aren't that many... There's that many kids playing hockey as there used to be.
• 3:37
Mm-hmm. So it's a bit of a problem. Mm-hmm. But I don't know what else to do. We've been... That was a gigantic argument we were having last night before and after our game. But- Is Albert Lea still what, uh...
• 3:47
So there's, you said there's two in hockey? Yeah. A and AAA? So Albert Lea's single. Yeah. Yeah. 'Cause they, we do, we used to be AAA in wrestling, and then the population dropped enough that it's now, it's down to AA.
• 3:59
There's not a lot going on I think when Tanner played there, Albert Lea was AA. Matter... That might've been before there was even classes. That, that might've even been when there was still just one class. Mm-hmm.
• 4:08
And, and that was... And it was, again, this year, that was our, that was the biggest rival game next to John Marshall at the end of the season.
• 4:14
We always played Albert Lea last game of the season in Rochester, and they would bring busloads of kids to the game. Oh, yeah? Like three, four school buses, plus the parents driving over. That place was a mess. Wow. Mm.
• 4:25
At the Civic Center? What's that? No, in, in the Port- At Graham. At Graham. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's our, that's our home rink. Cool. Yeah, last it was good. So anyway, um, bicycling stuff. Let's see.
• 4:36
Uh, [laughs] I, I, we- took my plastic bike home. [laughs] Did you? [laughs] So I, I, I bought that Salsa Bear Grease, um, in Platteville, um, because it was sitting on the floor for, like, three years.
• 4:48
And I think 27.5 wheels that came out, and that was still the 26-inch wheel, and I take that bike down. I race it into Berkey. And so I've had that bike for seven years. I rode it seven times. [laughs] That's it.
• 5:01
And I took it off the wall, and, uh, Ogarro was over, and I... we literally had to take pliers and break the chain free. [laughs] I was like- Oh, man... I get down to the Berkey, and I hang it up.
• 5:10
I don't wash it or nothing. [laughs] I was like, "You can't ride a plastic bike to Chewie's house. I'll get so much shit." [laughs] That's right. And so I took it home and brought the dogs. I thought, "Yeah, okay."
• 5:19
[laughs] We, uh... So I'm... Are you going to Sweaty Eddie next weekend? Yeah. I may have to come down. Are you camping?
• 5:26
Yeah, that's, I, I got a, I got a new generator that's, uh, dual fuel, so it can do propane or, or LP. And maybe that is... Yeah. And, uh, I had a problem last year when I got up there.
• 5:37
It was pretty cold in the morning, and my battery was dead, so I think I might camp there. Last year we were still playing, so I didn't make it. Mm-hmm. Um, and, and you're doing Berkey also, right?
• 5:46
And we're doing Berkey, yep. I may have to come to Berkey. I don't know if I can make it next weekend. Mm. There's a lot going on. I got a hotel Downtown Hayward. So I can- Walking distance to what? Three bars?
• 5:57
Uh, walking distance to the m- Just-... to the Moccasin. Just riding one And then riding distance to everything. Yeah. [laughs] The Moccasin with the, uh, uh- Uh, taxidermy, like the- Oh, yeah...
• 6:07
everyone was playing cards and playing- Yeah... pool and boxing and stuff. [sniffs] Yeah. It's, I mean, it, I loved the sawmill. Um, but you're gonna have to drive from the sawmill no matter where you go.
• 6:17
Yeah, yeah, I was just gonna say, that's- Unless, actually, there is a hotel behind there that I have stayed in. Is there? Well, that's gotta be full. Uh, I'm sure it is. Yeah. Yeah. The Lenroot. I think the Lenroot Inn.
• 6:28
Um, but yeah. Yeah. Do you know if Swim Decorah is going up, anybody? From Decorah? No. Decorah doesn't do shit anymore.
• 6:35
[laughs] I was wondering about that, 'cause- We started to do a group ride today, and O'Gara sent out to, I don't know, 10 different people, and everybody's like, "Oh, not today," you know? Oh.
• 6:43
Today was probably the last day to ride. The, the trails are pretty slushy. Getting sloppy? I mean, yeah, the, the south-facing hills are bare. Oh, yeah.
• 6:51
The north-facing hills are still, I think I still- Well, with the rain tonight, it's supposed to keep warming up and get ra- I was gonna bring a bike down and try to ride in the morning before I go back to Rochester, and I thought, "Ooh, that's a good idea," and then- It's not gonna get below freezing tonight...
• 7:01
no, it's supposed to, it's supposed to keep climbing. Mm-hmm. It's supposed to be, like, 44 at midnight, so. Yeah, and especially here, it's, everything's off-camber. Everything's in a fucking hillside- Yeah...
• 7:09
so you're gonna slide y- Yeah... well, I was sliding around at 1:00.
• 7:12
I know at, um, uh, Game Haven, they took and went out and re-groomed, uh, last night so they could ride today, and then, um, they'll probably be in the same boat 'cause we're supposed to get rain tomorrow too, so.
• 7:22
Mm, mm-hmm. I mean, although the thing is they groomed it and told people to stay off of it because, um, if it gets cool, we should be in good shape 'cause we have, we just got 18 inches of snow.
• 7:35
You do just, you got that- Yeah... big band that went through?
• 7:36
Yeah, we got, we, I don't, I can't say we didn't get 24 inches, but it was really funny because we were talking and they said Rochester got five, and I'm like, "I shoveled five inches of snow the first time I shoveled, and I shoveled- Yeah...
• 7:47
two more times after that. Yeah. And of course, the snowblower broke down, so I shoveled more than I did anything else, but- Mm. Yeah, well, uh, I think that band hit Levis.
• 7:59
Um, I saw Steve was out doing his, uh, the grooming Snapchats or Facebook stories, wherever he does them. [laughs] And, um, so that'll be good for Sweaty Yeti. They probably just got a foot of snow. It'll be perfect.
• 8:10
This- Oh, it's really- Nice... it was like ours, it's so powdery. I don't know if he's gonna be able to pack it down very well.
• 8:14
Well, if it's 40 degree, I don't know what the temperature is, but if it's 30, 40 degrees, that's gonna get wet and heavy- Mm-hmm... and it'll pack down pretty good I would think.
• 8:21
Last time- As long as it freezes before Saturday... last time I did the Sweaty Yeti was, it was warm.
• 8:26
It must've been just before pandemic because it was warm, and remember they, they cut out part of the trail, but we rode most of it, and that stuff was awesome. Yeah.
• 8:33
The stuff that we could ride was, like, perfect for, I mean, you could ride a, just a regular mountain bike on it probably it was that hard packed. Yeah. I think a lot, they usually le- leave it all in.
• 8:42
I mean, it's kind of last hurrah for the winter. I mean, the snow's going away. They don't care about the cross-country ski trails that much anymore. Yeah. It's like the next weekend it's all gonna be melted and gone.
• 8:53
Vivian. [laughs] Vivian. I just, I just hear this noise, it's like, okay, whose stomach is growling? Growling. It's, yeah, it's just a low rumble.
• 8:58
[laughs] No, she just loves sitting on a bench and looking out the window and growling at everything. That's, that's why we put that ottoman out there because all the dogs do that. It's a rotation. Yeah?
• 9:06
It goes, like, last time I was down I had both the dogs down here- [laughs]... and it was like one would go there, one would go lay in the bed. Then they would, uh, when we'd get down there, there was this- It's just-...
• 9:14
this constant rotation all night long. Yeah. Who's gonna sit in the window? Oh, they're side by side right now. They're doing their little- Oh... girls bitching at the- Oh, okay, yeah... bitching at the neighbors...
• 9:22
'cause Hank is over here. Yep. Yep. Um, let's see. Well, yeah. So what else? Um. You guys, do, you did, you did, God, [laughs] that seems like too long ago to even talk about, but you did, uh, New Year's Day.
• 9:33
Kayla talked about it a little bit. Yep, yep. She was, she went down and did the burr ride. Yeah, yeah. Which
• 9:40
I, again, that, I'm never gonna get to do that until I quit coaching hockey because that's right in the middle of the s- That was, was that in Des Moines? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That looked like a shitshow.
• 9:47
Yeah, I think that's what she said. [laughs] I was like, I, she said the- Kind of our shitshow... stamps, I'm like, that's a, that's a Kayla kind of party, right? [laughs] Yeah.
• 9:53
Well, I was kinda disappointed because then she said last week one of those grumpy old men in, in, uh,
• 9:58
uh, Wabasha, um, and they're, and the guys that live down there were gonna try to get something started, but I don't know if they did anything or she even went. Grumpy Old Men, what is that?
• 10:07
Oh, you know, from the movie Grumpy Old Men. That was in Wabasha, yep. They, they have a f- yeah, they have a, they have a festival down there now they do. Oh. I didn't even think it'd be out and, like, to ice fish.
• 10:14
Is there a bike ride part of it, or she's- They're trying, she was just, I, I think some of the guys from the rotor club were gonna get on and try to start one. Like, somebody must live down there and was gonna- Oh...
• 10:21
try to get something started. Oh. I don't know. We'll- Not a bad idea. Okay. Yeah. Wabasha's not, Wabasha used to have a road riding club that was fairly big.
• 10:29
But I think people- There's the Big Ring Flyers out of, are they out of Wabasha? Wabasha. Oh, that could be, that could be what they're called. I don't remember.
• 10:34
Uh, maybe it's Minneapolis, but they're, they go to the Birkie, and that's a huge group. They have Big Ring Flyer jerseys on. Hmm. I don't remember those guys. Okay.
• 10:43
[laughs] I've, I've been to Birkie once and that was rather fuzzy. [laughs] You got kicked out. [laughs] Or not let in. You didn't even get in. Yeah, yeah. [laughs] I don't know, I got, Kayla's all over it.
• 10:51
She wants to try to, try to band it in again this year, so we'll see. Is she going up? I don't know, she's talking about it. I don't know, I don't know, you know, who's doing what.
• 11:00
Um, we do have to get together, speaking of which, we gotta get together with Greg and those guys and go over and do a... Oh, now we have to do a podcast over there. Okay.
• 11:08
Because he texted me the other night and goes, "Hey, there's a guy you need to meet. He, um, manages a hockey team or runs a hockey team, um, owns a microbrewery, and rides thousands of miles on a bike" And I'm like,
• 11:22
I'm like, "Where's this? In Milwaukee?" And he goes, "Yeah, it's like 400 feet from my shop." And I'm going, "And you fucking just tell me now about this?" [laughs] It's like, good lord, man.
• 11:29
So- Can you do it on the same trip as the chair delivery? I, there's gotta be the ch- To Wabasha? Yeah, it's gotta be the chair delivery also. Yeah, that's- [laughs] I, I s- by the way- Where's his shop now?
• 11:37
  I- He's still in that fucking building? I don't understand what's going on with Jason. I don't, yeah, I don't either.
• 11:40
[laughs] I mean, he, he talks about it all the time, and then it's like, "Hey, do you wanna bundle a bunch of bikes because I gotta sell some of this stuff."
• 11:44
So I was gonna buy some of his fat bikes be- because they had no snow. Oh. And I thought maybe I could sell a few up in Rochester because we actually had pretty good riding, uh, out in Game Haven. Mm.
• 11:53
It would've been fun just to set up a, [laughs] just go up to Game Haven with about six or eight fat bikes and just sit out there and set up a little tent and sell bikes out there. Just for sale?
• 12:01
[laughs] Yeah, just for sale sign out there and watch those guys freak out. [laughs] What is the, what was the race that we had, it was in the summer, that, that maybe Jeremy put on with Revengeance, um, at West- Ah,
• 12:14
that little bike park, uh, that little trail system south of, um, Rochester Community College Oh, Eastwood? Eastwood, that's what it was. No, no, no. Jamie didn't put that, the one...
• 12:22
[laughs] Or were you cooking bacon, or I passed out? Yeah. [laughs] What? So, uh, Charlie Tree, who's a really good rider, and- Oh, Charlie's yeah... and Charlie's, uh, now he's into endur- endurance racing. Is that...
• 12:32
And- and I don't remember if he was training for something. It was, it must have been spring of the year. I don't remember. But he, he did a race- It was summer... out at Eastwood, and it was,
• 12:40
it was only seven miles, and it's super tight. So... And it was, to me it was an incredibly stupid idea, but I think they got 50 miles in after, like, oh God, what, 15 laps of the same fucking trail. You know, so...
• 12:52
And it was like, you... It was kinda cool because it must have been spring, 'cause there's just enough trees that you could see bicycles all the time, and they're just weaving all over the place.
• 12:59
And you, if you stood there, you go, "Where are they fucking riding?" [laughs] 'Cause you can't see the trail. You just see bodies and heads going around. Yeah.
• 13:05
So, [laughs] the first year, I don't think you were there the first year with me, but you were there that one after that. I, I was, I f- I said, "I'm gonna fix these fuckers."
• 13:12
So I rode around the trail with my big fat dummy. I went down to one of the spots. I've picked out a spot the day before, and I just set up my little stove, and I started cooking bacon.
• 13:21
[laughs] So they, they did a pre-ride, and after they left, I jumped out and set up my stuff and started cooking bacon. And everybody's going... And I had Hamm's Beer or something stupid like that. Yeah.
• 13:29
And I was just handing them out, and pretty much after the first lap everybody was racing. Then after that, I was going, "You can't race. All's you can smell is bacon in the woods." Bacon.
• 13:36
[laughs] I don't remember much after you- That's where I come from. Then then either the next year or the year after that, you came up there, and we just had a gigantic party.
• 13:43
It was like there was probably as many people s- hanging out at that area that we had as it was that was racing. Uh-oh. Yeah. Knock call? It's six o'clock. Oh.
• 13:51
You- Vivian usually does the howl along with the sirens, but- Oh, does she? It doesn't go off on Sundays. Oh, really? Oh, yeah? Yeah. Yeah. My dogs do the same thing on Wednesdays.
• 14:00
They go out and howl at, at the backyard. But, so anyway, I don't remember. I think somebody had to go buy more beer. I know we, I went, we went through 14 pounds of bacon. There was a lot of bacon.
• 14:10
There was a lot of bacon. [laughs] And then, and then we're closing up to go home. All the riders are done.
• 14:14
They, th- in fact, it got to be a thing where they actually wanted us to be part of it, so they invited us down for the potluck dinner afterwards and stuff, right? And we were gonna go down there, and we got every...
• 14:22
Uh, honestly, God, imagine, so let's say 15, 20 people having a party up in the woods, and we picked up all the beer cans, and all the cooking stuff, and packed everything on our bikes, and talking and stuff.
• 14:33
And as we're riding away, Spinner's still sleeping in a chair. [laughs] And he passed out. And he- Yeah... and he woke up just in time to see the last person leaving. [laughs] Yeah, he just, yeah.
• 14:42
That would've been weird if I woke up in the middle of the day in the woods by myself like- But you're like, "Oh, shit" Why not? You- "Did I just dream a party?" [laughs] It's pretty awesome. I don't know.
• 14:50
Well, the best part was is I think it was your first time there probably. Yeah, yeah. And so he wouldn't... Well, it's not, there's a highway and a bunch of houses. You really can't get lost. It's like riding down here.
• 14:59
Yeah. You can get lost, but you're not really lost. Well, it's very small woods. Yeah. There's a lot of trails in there, but they are- Yeah... looped around. And now they don't even...
• 15:06
There's some of the guys that live over there maintain them, but Game Haven's gotten so big now that that's all they maintain.
• 15:11
They didn't, they didn't do any fat bike trail grooming in, uh, Eastwood this year, I don't think. Hmm. Okay. But if you've got... You know, they just keep adding. It's like down here when we first got started.
• 15:19
They just keep adding trail after trail after trail on Game Haven. Mm. And the city's all in favor. It's kinda cool now. You, like, go out there and...
• 15:26
You have to go out there and ride with me sometime, because you probably did it once, but now, like, you're riding on one of the trails, and there's guys literally throwing Frisbees over the top of your head. Oh, really?
• 15:33
Playing Frisbee golf while you're out there. You- they, they intersect, like, in five or six different places that I can think of. It's pretty cool actually.
• 15:39
There was a, uh, when we rode, last time I rode Marquette, I can't remember, um, what the trail was called, but the, yeah, the Frisbee golf was right inside there.
• 15:47
And I guess it makes sense that you're gonna have the same groups would utilize that space, you know? Yeah. Oh, I, there's no reason not to. I mean, they're not really... I...
• 15:56
Their fairways are, are, you know, they're intersecting stuff, so if there's an opening you're not, they're not really, like, in your trail. Right, right. But- Hmm... I know Game Haven's getting big.
• 16:06
They got a snow tubing hill now. They're talking about rentals, you know, the mountain biking. They- I just found out. Yeah. Huh? Tubing. Yeah? Yeah, snow tubing. [laughs] It's a lot of fun. I don't know.
• 16:16
Then I was driving home- I think you gotta probably get this closer. Oh. There you go. Um, uh- I have to take the dogs out. There you go... Harmony has, uh, I sent you that thing, the snow dogs. Yeah. Those pictures.
• 16:26
I grabbed one of their flyers. Somebody down here bought one. Oh, really? Yeah. They, um, Rochester used it. That was the very first...
• 16:31
They might, they bought it from that guy supposedly, but that was the very first groomer Rochester had. Okay. And now he said somebody from down here bought one.
• 16:38
I remember, like, five years ago they were looking for dealers in North America. Yeah. Well, Harmony's, uh, the Husqvarna dealer is one. Oh. And he sold a few- They're not Husqvarna units, are they? No, no, no, no, no.
• 16:46
Okay. I don't think so. Okay. Um, but, but, but, you know, he sells them for his ice fishing. Oh. Because they just got, like, a... So it's like a, a track on a, in, on a tub. What's...
• 16:58
I don't know how it steers, but it's got a steering wheel, and then there's, then behind it you can either stand on this pad- Mm-hmm...
• 17:03
or they've got one for cross-country skiing and one for that, or they've just got, like, a plastic, um, sled that goes up behind it. Yeah. And a chair, and you can sit on it. Yeah. So the guys just use that to go...
• 17:11
[whooshes] You, you need that to steer it. We, we built one in Platteville. Um- Oh, really?... my buddy, um, worked for Cummins. Uh, there's a Cummins factory in Mineral Point, and it was...
• 17:20
And he's an engineer, and we spent a lot of time on it, and steering was the hardest thing. That looked like it'd be hard to me.
• 17:26
Like, you'd have to almost bank it every time, so- Well, you, you get something that you can stand in. So y- you can't just, like, twist it and- Right... walk behind it. Right.
• 17:34
You needed to, like, sit on something that you could kinda push against so you can have some torque. Yeah.
• 17:38
I know one Rochester guy that they were, they had, like, a 24-inch wide steel plate that attached to the back of it. Oh. And then you stood on that, and then that packed it down and, and made... But- Hmm...
• 17:47
I would think it wouldn't be very good for, like, tight corners. Uh, no, it wasn't, no. Um, it was really hard to turn. We struggled with it a lot, and then learning curve.
• 17:57
Like, we had way too much, way too big of an engine. Um, too powerful and not heavy enough, but... And I'm sure that what they have now, I mean, everybody's got them.
• 18:06
Everybody's got snow dogs that they're groom- well, except for us, except for Decorah's got the- I don't know if we could use one very much down here. You see, you, did you see the post? Yeah, I did. I did see that.
• 18:14
Yeah. And I'm like, "What is that?" [laughs] That's a, that's a Snowhawk that's been geared down. [clears throat] So Snowhawk is a- It's not a dirt bike.
• 18:21
It was built as a motorcycle-shaped thing with a track and a ski in the front. Isn't... And that works great. I mean, it's...
• 18:30
doesn't have a lot of power, but it's got the perfect amount to go up the hill and not spin out, and then groom single track. What, uh- That's cool... how much does that, how much does that drag weigh behind it?
• 18:39
Uh, he's got different plates. I mean, he, he can put weights on it. I don't know. Oh, I see. Okay. Yeah. So he can, you know, stack it up depending on what's going on. [clears throat] No, it's pretty cool.
• 18:48
I [laughs] here's the worst part. We lost last night, and I got up this morning and going, "Why is there fucking snow?" [laughs] It's time to go ride bike. Hockey season's over. The shit can go away now. Yeah.
• 18:57
I got things to do. I got riding to do. [clears throat] Yeah. [clears throat] I got pigs sitting to watch. I got to go down to Texas. Oh, yeah? Um, are you interested in going to, uh, Arizona at all? [sighs] Probably...
• 19:10
Well, I got to see what the job situation is. Oh, yeah. That's right. If I have time or... I do have an interview at Mayo Clinic too, so. Oh, you do? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Well, that should be easy to get in there.
• 19:21
You can do about anything you want there. Everybody's bailing on that place. Oh, are they? Well, I mean, it, uh, it's, it's, it's ki- they knew it was coming.
• 19:27
I mean, I don't think pandemic helped matters any, but it, they also knew it was coming because there's so many people my age that all started working there, and they built all those new buildings.
• 19:35
So they hired a whole ton of people at that age, so you know, people in their mid-60s are all... and they don't like how it's run anymore because it's more of a business. Not that they don't take- Mm...
• 19:44
good care of people, but it's more of a business. So people are bailing left and right, you know, and they're- Oh, really?... they're getting out. So I mean, there's a lot of job openings and, and, um- It's good for me.
• 19:53
Yeah. Yeah. They pay, they pay well. [clears throat] I mean, it's... This would be digital pathology, so it's, uh, look- digitizing slides of- Oh... human cells and blood cells and cancer cells and stuff like that. So.
• 20:04
Don't... Do you have to have a degree in- [clears throat]... um, like a lab degree too for that? Uh, not for this part. Oh. No. Interesting.
• 20:11
I'm, I would be the guy that talks to the lab degree and then turns it into English for regular people. So you can probably do that for... [laughs] Thank you. We appreciate that. Yeah. I still don't get it.
• 20:22
[laughs] You don't need to. Yeah. [laughs] The doctors will tell you what you need to know. [laughs] So, yeah. Cool. Well, uh, um, and, and you know, Mayo has so many offsite jobs. Oh, they're all remote. Yeah.
• 20:34
I mean, they're getting some that are coming back in. Yeah. Um, like my head coach is working. I, he may be... I don't think he works even one day a week at home or at, at the clinic. He has to go and do labs.
• 20:45
I think they have to be on site for certain things that they're doing occasionally just to keep their licenses and stuff- Mm... current, I think. Yeah.
• 20:51
Something with that, but most of the time he's at home, so he just like rolls out of bed and... Yeah. I, I'm- Wow. Yeah, this, the job that I started that I just quit, um, is gonna be...
• 21:00
I mean, they want everybody in the office, and the office sucks. I mean, I hate it. [laughs] Do, do you- It's 45 minutes drive each way. I'm spending so much of my day in there, and then... Yeah, it's just weird.
• 21:11
Like, I'm in a cubicle talking to people across, down the other side of the cubicle on a Teams meeting because I have to show my screen. I mean, we're working through things like that, so. Oh, sure. Yeah.
• 21:20
It's- So I mean, the logic behind it's there, but the working in there, but at, at the same time it's not. Yeah. I, there's things that I could be on there like one a week, but I, we don't need to talk about that.
• 21:30
We can talk about something else. [laughs] You're like, "Enough of that." We can talk about firefighting or- Yeah... lakes or whatever. Yeah. Um, let's see what else. We didn't have the...
• 21:37
We haven't talked since the Spring Grove fire, have we? I don't think we did. No. You and I talked about it- No... but not in this we haven't, no. Oh, okay. No. We saw pictures. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
• 21:46
No, they had like a, a community thing where they invited all the fire departments to come to a fundraiser- Very cool... thing last night. We had our Decorah, uh, fire department winter party last night, so we didn't go.
• 21:57
[clears throat] But yeah, that was some of the, that was some of the most miserable times of my life. [laughs] Yeah. Couldn't... I, I don't, yeah. No, I know we didn't put it on the podcast.
• 22:07
You might as well tell everybody about it. Oh, it was just there was 40 below winds. The, a fire started in a downtown building, um, you know, so there's buildings on both sides. There's no alley between them.
• 22:16
I mean, it's just wedged in there. And, uh, when you shot water in there for... [sighs] I don't know. We were on site for eight hours, I want to say. Six or eight hours. Um, guys got frostbite. Our gear was freezing.
• 22:29
That's terrible. Trucks are freezing. Pumps are breaking. Um, yeah. I- it was... When you g- when it gets that cold...
• 22:35
We had guys, we had our ladder truck over the top spraying water down and, um, you know, we r- we couldn't get in. There was three different roofs.
• 22:43
A lot of those old buildings, when they put a new roof on, they just build a roof over the sec- Over the top... over the top of the roof. So then how you to get water down in there, you know? Yeah.
• 22:51
You can't get water down in there, and then fire can move back and forth. So- Oh, shit... [clears throat] and, um, the guys were up there, and like I said, it was 40 below on the ground.
• 22:58
I mean, if you were standing in the wrong place, your boots would freeze to the ground. [laughs] There was- Wow...
• 23:02
cutting, cutting holes to get water, g- get the ice out of the way so that what was, what could flow could get into the sewer. So were the streets like freezing up and everything? Uh, yeah.
• 23:10
Like, you couldn't see the curb. I mean- [clears throat]... the water froze in the street enough that it was froze over the top of the sidewalks, and it was just one... You could have played hockey out there probably.
• 23:19
[laughs] Spring Grove hockey tournament. You missed an opportunity there. I know it. I know it. And we ended up... I mean, we just couldn't get it out.
• 23:26
There's, uh, lost some pets, but, uh, no people, and then we just tore it down with a excavator, which we've had- Oh, w-... to do that before. Uh, did you do that in- Waukon. Yeah, that's right. Waukon. Yeah.
• 23:37
Waukon did the same thing where you just, you get a excavator and start ripping it out. But in both cases, when it's 40 below outside, diesels have a hard time starting. Yep. Yeah. So- Yeah...
• 23:47
the Waukon one, it took like three hours to get that thing there. And this one, I think came out of [sighs] Caledonia? Or, no, I think it was like Holmen. They had to get one out of La Crosse- Oh, geez...
• 23:57
and bring it down. No shit. That's a- We get a big enough one- Wow... that you can tear down a burning building and be okay, you know? Did they, they trailered it up here then, I suppose? Yeah.
• 24:03
It's pro- probably one of those rich guys down around La, La Crosse that area that has one inside a building. Well, y- you got to start it up, and you got to keep it running. Yeah.
• 24:10
Just got to run all the whole way there 'cause if you get it on the scene and it's not running, it's not gonna start. Yeah. Doesn't help anything. Yeah. And there's a- Did they ever figure out how it started?
• 24:19
I didn't hear. Um, but when it's that cold in an old building like that, a lot of times it's like a space heater. Mm-hmm. Space heater freaks out people. You know, they're cold. True. They...
• 24:30
oh They have dirty laundry in the bedroom- I just, I just-... and they put it on a heater next to their bed- I-... whatever. I don't know. Yeah...
• 24:34
I just, I remembered that Tanna bought this house up in Richfield, and we were up there and, and, uh, they had turned the... It was a story and a half.
• 24:40
They turned the upper storage or the upper part into a bedroom, so it was like, it was like, it was a, a small apartment for mom or grandma, whichever. Oh, yeah, yeah.
• 24:48
So there was a bedroom, a bathroom, and the bathroom was really nice, and then there was a little kitchenette, like where the steps come up, and it was kinda cool. It was kinda cool. Yeah.
• 24:54
And then it was like, I was in the basement and I saw this electrical cord running up. They ran an electrical cord from the basement to the second floor and then put a, a, you know, a milk house heater- Oh, Jesus...
• 25:05
electric milk house heater- Oh. [laughs]... up, sitting on top of insulation so the pipes didn't freeze on that little kitchenette they put in there. Yikes. So it was sitting in the attic on insulation and blowing...
• 25:15
And I'm like, "Well, how did this place not burn down?" Yeah. No, that, I mean, a lot of times, that's what it is, just people don't know how to use them and I... You know, things get hot, things combust. I don't know.
• 25:25
It's... I think there were seven apartments up there, and they said no loss of life, so that was good. But it was just the cold, the... It was cold, but then imagine being cold and wet- No... and then your gear is heavy.
• 25:37
[laughs] You know? So then it just gets heavier and, yeah, we shot water in every hole, every- Did-... thing we could find and we could- Did you...
• 25:43
Were you guys able to, like, take shifts and go inside some place and warm up? Yeah.
• 25:46
So we were able to take breaks and go in, like, there was a Quick Trip there that opened up, and then they opened a community center for us. Oh, nice.
• 25:51
And then people started bringing in Crock-Pots of, like, chili and hot dogs and stuff like that, so we had something to eat. But- Wow... uh, you know, with that many departments, um, it's just hard to
• 26:02
manage a scene like that. And then, you know, communications are different and we got the big truck, you know, so we pull up right in front. And, um, I don't know, man.
• 26:12
[laughs] There's a Viking, uh, Electric up there- Yeah... which had- Yep... like, a huge building, and they let us put our truck in there to warm it up after you guys- Oh, nice. That's where Casey works. That's cool.
• 26:20
Oh, really? Yeah. Viking Electric there? Yeah, the one in Rochester. Across from IGA? Okay. No, that's Winthrop. The one in Rochester, but that's, that's, uh... The main one might be up in the Cities. I'm not sure. Hmm.
• 26:29
I'm not positive. No. Yeah. Well, yeah. Yeah. And we got to the point where we started bringing the ladder down, and the guys were up on top.
• 26:35
There's three guys up there, and then, you know, water's freezing in the pipe going up the boom, and, uh, we had a hard time getting it back down. They were about to rappel out of the basket. It was that cold.
• 26:45
[laughs] Oh, are you kidding? Yeah, 'cause it got- [laughs]... kind of stuck up there, and you're like trying to, like, huddle up. [laughs] Fuck. I mean, it's, it was a nightmare scenario.
• 26:54
Uh, we've done cold before, but that one up there was just really bad. That's horrible. Yeah. And it, and, and do you... I don't, just, I don't, just because since you've been back, it seems like it's getting worse.
• 27:04
Like, you're getting calls all the fricking time. Yeah. We've had a lot of stuff. Um, we had some really bad tractor, we had a really bad tractor roll over this summer. Um- Yeah... and that kid
• 27:15
is, not only did he survive, but, but he's gonna play baseball some this spring. Are you kidding? No. He, he was trapped for quite a while, wasn't he? Yeah, yeah. Oh, that's amazing. Yeah.
• 27:24
Yeah, the way he was hanging, we had to hold him up, so he wasn't just hanging upside down for an hour. We just didn't have... And that's the other thing that we talk about is farm equipment's getting bigger.
• 27:35
Farm equipment's getting massive. So, um, the jacks and struts and stuff that we, and the cutters that we had in the past won't cut all this new stuff, so we gotta- Oh, shit. Yeah. We can't...
• 27:46
The way that was off-camber in this valley or, um, gully thing, we ordered new equipment, and it's gonna be 70 grand, you know, that we can use for that. Wow. We'll be able to...
• 27:57
And then we're, we're talking about we don't need that big of stuff, and then somebody drove through the Family Table restaurant- [laughs]...
• 28:03
like, literally the next week, and like, oh, we need shit to hold up a building while we pull a car out. [laughs] I- That was, like, priceless. I just, I just, like, I, I...
• 28:11
Dro- been sitting here trying to get off all this stuff 'cause it seems like it's been nothing but doom and gloom lately.
• 28:16
Um, a friend of ours, uh, daughter, her boyfriend, the car crash that he was in last night, you know, jaw's life and tear the car apart. It's like, so are they even alive type of thing. It's that bad. Yeah.
• 28:29
It's like, oh, we need some good news. Yeah. I don't know what it's gonna be. Oh, you don't know if he's alive? No. No. Well, I think so, but I'm not positive. Yeah. I don't know.
• 28:37
I don't even- I think you would've heard by now if he was- I'm not even gonna get into the other crap that went on, like, yesterday and the day before. [laughs] It's like, God, it's been horrible.
• 28:43
Trying to think if I have any good news. [laughs] Yeah, I know. It's like, well, this is a real cheery... Aren't we supposed to be doing, like- [laughs]... voices like this in our head?
• 28:51
I could tell that story again in that voice. [laughs] Yeah, it'd be a little bit more comical. No, you'd, you'd wanna- You should talk about the sign at the one other fire in the country. Oh, that was kind of funny.
• 29:00
'Cause that is, that's pretty funny. So yeah, there's, yeah, we got called for a, a assist down in Fort Atkinson south of here, and, um, uh,
• 29:10
there's a sign, like, right at the front gates that, "We don't call 911 with a gun." I'm like, "Okay, you gonna shoot that fucking fire out?" [laughs] You know? It's... And then it was a, there was a lot of LP tanks.
• 29:21
That whole house was heated with LP tanks. Oh, good Lord. Like, little ones? Yeah. Oh, Jesus. Like, 20 pounders.
• 29:26
There was a big one on the outside that we, uh, hooked up to a truck and pulled it away, and we went inside and pulled the other ones out, and then there's bullets just popping the whole time, so- Oh, God...
• 29:33
I mean, you, they probably wouldn't hurt you, but they're just exploding every time. It's dumb. Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So- Yeah. Well, that was fun. Oh, yeah, that's cheery. Way to go, guys.
• 29:42
[laughs] Not cheery, but it was kind of funny. I'm like, yeah- All right... you posted that like that... let's go back to the fun stuff. Yeah.
• 29:47
[laughs] So [laughs] I don't know if this is fun or not, but, um, I sold your fucking chair. Oh, good. [laughs] Oh, it, like, this is better. But it's still in my basement. [laughs] He sold it to you? No. [laughs] No.
• 29:58
Tony Berger's buying it. No. [laughs] Oh, Tony gets it then? Yeah. Okay. So I, uh, um- He's gonna have a perm. [laughs] We're gonna deliver it with a ribbon on it.
• 30:05
[laughs] So the, the, the lady I bought the first two from, her son that lives in Wisconsin had been texting me, "Hey, do you want these other three chairs?" I'm like, "Wait, you took the ad down. I didn't think I'm...
• 30:15
No, I took them down because I thought you were buying them." I'm like, "Oh, she's a nice gal. She'd probably rig- Well, it's hockey season, and I've got, sh- I can only go over there at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
• 30:23
Well, I have hockey practice at 3:15." So, uh, so one day I finally just said, "Okay, I'm, I'm gonna be late, but I gotta go get this done."
• 30:30
So I ran over there and I grabbed the last three she had, and they were up in her attic[laughs] So, like- Oh, you told me.
• 30:36
Yeah, like the cheap Menards, I shouldn't say cheap Menards, but the cheap steps that come out of the ceiling. The, the- The drop down? Yeah... th- they were up in that.
• 30:42
So I go out those steps, and then her ho- that part of her house, every- all of her house has got stuff in it, but this is her salon area, so it's packed with stuff. Yeah.
• 30:51
And so I go up there and she goes, "You didn't bring any help?" And I'm like, "Who's gonna be able to help me?" I mean, you know, the, the rungs on the ladder are inch and a half wide. Oh. Just this tiny little thing.
• 30:59
So I go up in there, and they're all up there, and there's other really cool stuff I wanted too, but I forced myself not to take any more. [laughs] So I got the, I got the tops and the, well, arms down.
• 31:08
That was no big deal. I just carried those down and got them as out- outside. And then I get the chairs.
• 31:12
So I literally sit down on the top step and reach out as far as I could into the little opening, 'cause they just fit the opening, and then I'd have to, like, hold them out with my arms out like this until I got down past the ceiling, and then I could grab hold of the top with one hand and get them off there.
• 31:27
So I got them all out of there, got them in the truck, and I'm late for hockey practice, so I run back to the rink. And I get there just in time, and I'm like, "Oh, how am I gonna do these?
• 31:34
I can't leave these sit outside." So I grabbed and we moved them up to our office, then the shit show started. [laughs] Like, people are sitting up there getting their picture taken.
• 31:42
We had senior night the next night, and we just left them there overnight. We had senior night. All the seniors are up there getting their picture taken with the hairdryers on their heads.
• 31:49
[laughs] And we, one of the- And you plugged it in too. Yeah, and we plugged it in. So that it would work. Oh, they were working? Yeah. Oh, they were working. No, they were working.
• 31:54
Like, one of the guys [laughs] that, that was JV game, been done before, so his hair is, like, all flipped and turned. As, as far, like, like- 'Cause then one guys is wet. Yeah, the one guy's wet. He's like stunned.
• 32:04
And then it looks like- [laughs] Wilson's stunned, he goes, "Oh, this, this feels really good." [laughs] [laughs] Like, I'm like, "Oh, shit." So- [laughs]...
• 32:10
and everybody's looking, because they're kind of sparkly green, you know, and stuff. Yeah. And then I, ah, and it didn't work out. I don't, uh, we lost power.
• 32:17
I found out with these that if you stop a podcast, it'll save it, but if the power goes out, it loses it. Oh. So I had all three of the managers sitting in those chairs. Okay.
• 32:25
And they heard their voices for the first time in this, and it sounds like us cackling about this voice thing. Yeah? But it was their real voices. Oh, no way. It was, it was that funny. Oh, God, it was hilarious.
• 32:34
I couldn't get them to answer a question for the first five minutes, and, and I lost all that. But, but the thing is, is so then one of, [laughs] a guy that I used to coach with with the Veille girls, he's like,
• 32:45
"What the..." He had classics, I go, "Look, dude, I'm sorry. Those chairs are up there." And he's very serious. He goes, he goes up, he goes, "You wanna sell one?" [laughs] [laughs] So I'm like, "Sure."
• 32:55
I said, "I only paid 20 bucks for them." He goes, "I'll give you 20 bucks for it." Yeah. So I have pictures of his son- 20 bucks and a case of beer, you could just- Walki- walk-... worth the markup...
• 33:03
walk it out- I'd sell it, yeah... walk it out of the shower. And he, he has his robot in his, in, in, uh, Jeff's wife, Val, goes, "Cal, where are you going?" He goes, "I'll be back." He goes out and sits in the garage.
• 33:13
So there's, like, snowmobiles and hockey equipment laying around in their garage, and he's just sitting there in his robe with the- [laughs] In his lawn chair...
• 33:19
in his lawn chair the whole time, said, reading, playing a video game.
• 33:22
[laughs] So that's what you need to do is buy a whole bunch of random shit and just, like, take it upstairs to the office, and people will be like, "Ooh, I want that."
• 33:28
[laughs] Well, they said, so, so we debated about leaving them, 'cause everybody's having so much fun with them. It's like, ah, 60 bucks for gears. This is fun.
• 33:36
So Jeff buys one and he hauls it, Saturday morning, he takes it, takes it out to his place, or out to his truck, and he's reffing some games. Then I go in and grab the other two, and I'm hauling them out to my truck.
• 33:46
So people are walk- A- as I'm trying to get out to my truck, everybody's like, they're on a cart, right? And everybody's like... So I told the story about how I got them, like, 15 times. Yeah?
• 33:54
And then I finally get them all out there to put in my truck, and I went inside to grab something else, and I go back out there. [laughs] So there's Jeff sitting there with one in his.
• 34:01
Then my truck sitting there with two in there. And some guy walks up to me, he goes, "What the fuck is going on around here?" [laughs] [laughs] We're starting a salon. So then, [coughs]
• 34:10
so Sven decides he wants the two for River West, right? We got two left. Oh. And then I get a text from Tony Berger. He says, he goes, "I'll give you double for one of those chairs." Yeah? I'm like, "Okay."
• 34:21
[laughs] I was kinda, "Do you, are you attached to that chair?" [laughs] I'm like, "No, I'm just holding it 'cause Dinner didn't want it." [laughs] So- Because you wouldn't, so you didn't want it either?
• 34:30
[laughs] So, yes. I wanted to put it in one of her daughter's bedroom, but that didn't happen. He wanted to put it in Aria's bedroom. Yeah. I was like, "Nnn- That's just me perving...
• 34:38
yeah, I don't think that's a good idea." Um, so, so now we have to do a trip to- Anytime we go to Milwaukee, I'll do, I'll, I'm in... nope. Yeah, so we gotta go to Milwaukee.
• 34:46
We gotta haul the three chairs over there, and then we've gotta go do a podcast with this dude that manages a hockey team and runs a hockey team, has a microbrewery, rides a lot of bike, and his name is Ron. Okay.
• 34:58
I'm just, just so it's, I, this is obviously gonna be more than one day. It's not that, uh, Black Dog Brewing. That was by his old shop. Yeah, that- Black Husky? Black Hus- Yeah, Black Husky. That was it. Yeah.
• 35:07
Yeah, I, no, he didn't even say what the name of this one was. Oh. And it was 400 feet from his shop. I'm like, "Seriously, dude? I'd have moved there by now if you'd told me that." I've been to the new shop.
• 35:15
Well, I, I think I've been to the new shop. If it's the one that's inside the big building then- You've been to the big building. I don't know if you've been to the shop, right?
• 35:21
Well, I've been to what was gonna be a shop. I don't know, I don't know where they ended up. I have no idea. I, yeah. I, he seems just completely over the whole thing. Yeah, yeah. No, I don't know.
• 35:31
I don't know what's going on. So anyway, road trip to Milwaukee. I'll come down here and pick you guys up in the chairs, and then we'll, [sniffs] then we'll go. We can stop and see the horses. Mm-hmm. And we'll- Yeah.
• 35:43
Well, they're not on the way anymore. They're up by Baraboo now. Oh, yeah, that's really not on the way, is it? Yeah, they're like 45 minutes north. Yeah. Well, unless you go through La Crosse.
• 35:49
Well, unless you guys come up to my place and then we go, because then we go right by it. Yeah. Right? Yeah. Well- 'Cause it's just off of 90... yeah, closer. I don't think it matters. It's not just off. Eh.
• 35:56
It's a ways, but yeah. Mm. Either way. Um, yeah. What else? God, we're exciting. [laughs] Whew. I, um, you know, I, I didn't think I could drink a beer today after last night, 'cause we had our winter party. Yeah.
• 36:09
The fire department winter party, and- Where'd you have it?... Bush Light was free. Hey, how was the- Surprise. [laughs]... the, uh, the big ring ding up, up at, for the firemen up at, uh, Top of the Goliath?
• 36:20
Oh, Top of Goliath, yeah. Yeah. $81,000. No shit. We raised, yeah. How much did the dog go for? Um, over 1,000. Really? What dog? That's not bad. It, they had a, a hunting dog that they auctioned off. Are you kidding me?
• 36:31
Is that one of Aria's- It was kind of weird. Yeah. What a fucking, no, but what a brilliant idea. One of Aria's best friend's, his boyfriend raises them. Yeah. Really? Yeah.
• 36:38
It's like they do it at- That's kind of a brilliant idea... yeah.
• 36:40
They do it at Ducks Unlimited and stuff, and it, like, um, it goes for enough money that somebody who knows what that dog is and what it's capable of is gonna be able to use it. Oh. And actually, yeah.
• 36:50
I think I can get a golden retriever. Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think it was a Lab or a Golden Retriever My buddy, my b- Yeah, those are labs...
• 36:54
my buddy, my buddy, my buddy Brad, his, uh, girlfriend Kristen raises like f- big time show Golden Retrievers, right? Okay. And her last litter was, [clears throat] um, I, she gets a, I know she's flown one to Korea.
• 37:08
Okay. I mean that- Wow... yeah. But another one that she said this one, she said she's, she called her Sassy, and she's like, "When she was born and we took her out to clean her, she started growling at us."
• 37:18
[laughs] Yeah. [laughs] I'm like she goes, "I don't know what to do with her." She goes, "Even Brad who..." Brad is like this big burly biker guy, and the dogs just fucking love him, right? Yeah.
• 37:26
And even, she's even snarling at him. Oh. It's like, oh, she's a... That, there's one. We'll get that. We'll, we'll, we'll raffle that one off for a bike race.
• 37:33
[laughs] They have a dog that nobody, that doesn't like anybody. Give it to some unsuspecting fool. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] That's perfect. I do have another story. So, um, Busch Light curling was last weekend. Oh, yes.
• 37:44
Oh, in Lansing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so thir- And you sent me the pictures... 30 packs of Busch Light in a lasagna pan with a wooden two-by-four handle on the top, and, um, it's- Did you play? Yeah. Oh, nice. Yeah.
• 37:55
Was it fun? It was fun, yes. It's, um, there w- we got kicked out. [laughs] Or no, we, I'm saying we- Oh, do tell. Do tell...
• 38:03
we, we, we disqualified No, keep going because this is the part I need to hear about, so keep going. Yeah. Um, I gotta remember the, why I told the story in the first place. But, um- [laughs]...
• 38:09
there was a kid that was a judge. He's like 14 or 15. Everybody's going over the line when they're pushing. I guess the rule kinda evolved during the day, like you have to stay behind the line when you throw it.
• 38:19
And then it was like you have to leave one part of your body behind the line when you throw it. So it was actually really hard to get it 'cause it's on the Mississippi River. It's not...
• 38:27
I mean, you can broom if you want, but it doesn't really do anything. Doesn't help. Yeah. So. It's not flat. Um, and this kid, his dad was on my team. Everybody's going over the line.
• 38:36
The only person he kicked out was his dad. [laughs] No. So, but... And they have a hard rule because there's kids judging and stuff like that. Sure.
• 38:43
Like, the hard rule is you do not argue with the judge 'cause they're kids. Sure. You know, and it's, there's no money on the line. You, you, you're just here, have fun. Hang on. Uh-oh. Might have a call.
• 38:55
This is for Winneshiek first responders in the Bethsaida area. Not Bethsaida. Where we were. Incident at 1087- See what happens quick... Highway 150 for a, a car versus deer.
• 39:07
Both occupants of the vehicle are conscious and breathing. They're roughly okay, but they are complaining of some tightness in their chest. Okay, never mind. Okay. Nobody's trapped.
• 39:15
It's pretty- We wanna go if they're stuck. Um. Um, so here's the thing. Um, oh, go ahead and keep your beers and we'll- Oh, I'm fine... we'll finish when we get back. Um. Oh, I gotta tell you the dog story.
• 39:23
Oh, yeah, yeah. You want that part or you wanna save it? No, we'll just wait. We'll just wait till our, until the beer tender gets back. [laughs] Beer tender. Beer's back. Well, I, I can start. Okay. So- [laughs]...
• 39:32
this group from Kansas City, there's full-time firefighters down there, um, that come up for Busch Light curling. Are you kidding? Yeah. [laughs] And the one guy has a rescue dog, a fire department rescue dog. Really?
• 39:44
And he, this is a nationally certified dog, so he's been to South Carolina for hurricanes. He's been out to LA for earthquakes or California for earthquakes. It's a lab.
• 39:56
Um, there's a program out of Texas where he gets them. And, um, I g- I wasn't there. I didn't make it back for, to watch the dog work, but there's some downtown buildings that just got sold that are open. And, um,
• 40:08
this dog will walk in a room. If he can see you and smell you, he doesn't care about you. And if they're, if the body is dead, or I shouldn't say he doesn't care, but he's not looking for you.
• 40:18
He knows not, he n- it doesn't need to find you. Right. But there's a way that he can smell, if he can smell somebody he can't see, he goes and finds that person. It was pretty crazy. Really?
• 40:26
So the guy was, like, hiding in the stairwell. Yeah. And he's a regular dog. Like, I thought it'd be like a service dog, where you don't pet, you don't touch. Sure, yeah. No, he's, you do whatever.
• 40:35
He's just like a regular dog. He was in T-Box. He was in, you know, the bars in Lansing. Wow. Um. And you said he was a rescue dog. Yeah. Oh, he's a rescue... I don't know if he was a rescue.
• 40:45
Well, no, but you know- So they've trained him to, like, do this? Yeah. Yeah, he's trained to do it. He- Wow... they said there was like $35,000 worth of training into that dog. Man. Oh. But this guy can go wherever.
• 40:54
Like, when that kid went missing this summer up here- Yep... um, at, I guess he called and said, "You want me to bring him up?" 'Cause I don't know, it's- Oh, from the school?... he doesn't smell or he- Yeah...
• 41:05
he, uh, they, he's done, uh, cadaver training. He doesn't show you dead people. He only finds people that need rescued. Wow. It was pretty cool to watch him work. Well, yeah, because there's cadaver dogs. Yeah. Yeah.
• 41:17
Um, but you know, you- But, but you're not rescuing dead people... but you're talking about- You're rescuing live people, so... that's even cooler yet. Yeah. But, you know, like,
• 41:23
uh, Nick Saney, we surf with Surly, um, used to train dogs and then get rescues. Like, he had a Brittany that was a rescue. It was a purebred, but it was still a rescue dog. Mm-hmm.
• 41:31
And he trained it, and then he gave it to the, um, Minneapolis Airport. Oh, really? And then he, he's a drugs, he's a drugs- He's a drugs sniffing dog? Yeah. Well, he's a bomb-snoking, sm- Wow. Yeah, he was...
• 41:41
And that, when Nick and I were getting ready to fly out to Portland, and, uh, we were walking through there, and the dog was getting trained. And the, and the guy saw him, and he's just, like, panically waving him away.
• 41:49
He goes... And when we got done, he goes, he goes, "You couldn't see him," 'cause he goes, "If he'd have saw you and, and veered off of what he was supposed to be doing- Wow... he'd have failed." Oh.
• 41:58
And no, I mean, he would've- That's sad... if he would've saw Nick, of course. Yeah. But he goes, that was his last day of training, so now he officially works for the Minneapolis Airport. Cool. Yeah. Interesting.
• 42:06
Okay, so back to the curling. Yeah. Um, so- We wanna know how you got kicked out... oh, we got- Yes, yeah. Kicked out, kicked out...
• 42:13
we got kicked out 'cause the guy went over the line, and his kid kicked him out, and he didn't, he d- Oh, that was it? Oh, you- He didn't enforce the rule on anybody else...
• 42:18
oh, so your whole t- you got kicked out along with him then? Your team did? Well, yeah, it's a three-person team. Oh, got it. Wow, so you weren't, like, being, like, super obnoxious and, like, doing something- No...
• 42:25
like super stupid- Okay. No... to get kicked out? So- Okay... super stupid. What the [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] All right. Here it is. Okay. You know exactly what I mean. I do know what you mean.
• 42:32
So here's the, uh, who wants what? I don't know. I just thought- All right... whatever you want. Do you want another one of those or do you want the- Why are we in the dark? I think it pro- Just 'cause it's dark...
• 42:39
I don't know. I don't, we got- Because it's so pretty... we have re- I have pretty lights on me. I don't know about you fucking guys. It's so pretty. I have lights on me. You're just glowing. I know, I know.
• 42:45
I mean- Yeah... it's so awesome. [laughs] Um, um, but here's the reason I wanted to know about this, because you are gonna run a tournament this summer in August. We need ice, right? Oh, I have ice. Okay.
• 42:56
So the, you know, me being a hockey guy and these fucking curling people up in Rochester- Oh, you're saying something with- Yeah, they're, they're like, "Build us this. Build us this." You know, the, the...
• 43:05
They built the ice up so much on the one rink that you can... That's the Vinho Verde if you want that one. That's the one you had earlier? Yeah. Yeah. I don't want that one. Well, fine. I'll drink it then. Okay.
• 43:13
Thank you. Thank you. [laughs] Um, so they, they've got... During the week of the fair, so it's like the first week in August, they- Mm... they're
• 43:20
taking the ice down, taking the lines out, and putting in just curling lines. Okay. They have to take the ice down anyway to- And wait, a state fair, you said? It says Graham. No, it's at Graham. At Graham.
• 43:28
At Graham, at Graham Four. Oh, oh. The new rink, yeah. So they're gonna set it up there, and they go, "We can't skate on it. They won't let us skate on it for practices or anything, so we can't use it."
• 43:35
So I'm like, I go to the rink manager, "Can we curl on it?" Yeah. He goes, "Well, sure. You can curl on it e- when they're... He goes, "Not when they're using it." You know, and they...
• 43:43
And, and here's the thing that bugs me. They've been asking and begging and, and demanding that everybody build them a curling building. Oh. They're kind of cool. They're like a really fancy bowling alley.
• 43:52
They're kind of fun to drink in actually. Are we using them? I mean, where does that money come from? The curling club pay for the curling club? The curling club doesn't want to do a fucking thing.
• 43:58
They want everybody to do it for them. Yeah. I guess that's the problem I have. Like, youth hockey has their, their pull tabs, and everybody's- Right...
• 44:03
raising money for this and that, and they just want somebody to fucking build it for them so they can pay- They'll do it... little to nothing and use it, right?
• 44:10
So [laughs] anyway, they, they finally convinced the county during the fair to do this. And they're... I think they charge like five bucks of head to go use it.
• 44:16
So I'm just like, "So what, are you gonna charge me for three hours of that on a Wednesday night?" [laughs] And he goes, "Why Wednesday night?" I go, "Because we're gonna do a fucking Busch Light curl." Curling night.
• 44:26
[laughs] And he goes, he goes, "What is that?" I go, "You're not gonna be around, and there's gonna be beer involved. Stay the fuck away." Yeah. And he's like, "Well, you are my head coach, so I suppose I gotta listen."
• 44:37
[laughs] So, so we're gonna run a, we're gonna run a Busch Light one. Curling night. And, and all's it's gonna do is piss those curlers off, and I can hardly wait to do it. The... Well, you need to paint.
• 44:46
You need to paint lanes and you need to paint targets. No, we're gonna have regular curling. It's- No, it's gonna be a regular curling rink. We're gonna do it on that. Ooh. Okay, so it is gonna have- Yes...
• 44:54
that's already in there. It's gonna have the target- Oh, okay... like, like, uh, it's gonna have... It'll be what? I don't... I suppose three lanes, six lanes. I don't know. Uh, we had eight over there.
• 45:02
Yeah, this is probably... I don't know what. I don't know how many you put on a rink. Four maybe?
• 45:05
Uh, I- Alls I know is the dots are in the wrong fucking spot because when you're playing goalie and they're on there, the dot is about two feet where it's not supposed to be from where your regular face off dot is, and it fucks me up every time, so that's why I don't like this thing.
• 45:18
Yeah. That's why I wanna... So I can just hardly wait to go out there and, and watch those purists come out there and watch us with- [laughs]... fucking cases of beer and... I just gotta get...
• 45:25
Do you know somebody where we can get the pattern? He just wants to ruin things for professionals. E- exactly. You know this? [laughs] Why not? Why not? I didn't- I'm totally game. I'm in... I didn't say that... I'm in.
• 45:32
It's a very good idea, but I didn't say that. The, the... I feel like that's kind of been, like, your life motto. [laughs] Let's just fuck it up for everybody else. He just... No, he's, he ruins things for professionals.
• 45:43
Is this- If you care about what you're doing, I'm gonna make a joke out of it. [laughs] If you give a shit, you're in trouble. Oh. [laughs] But you said you just need to find something.
• 45:52
What is the something that we need to find? I just need the pattern for that wood handle 'cause that looked like it was professionally made. Oh, no. It's just a- No... it's, it's literally just, um- No, no, no...
• 46:01
two by fours and- I'm, I'm talking professionally made as in Drinking Beer and Spinning Scratch. Oh. Oh. Yes. Then, then- Then yes... it was professionally made. I feel like there is somebody to do that...
• 46:09
we're talking, yeah, yeah. Somebody can do that. Yeah. A lot of the ones just use, like, the, the handle on the top of the cube to slide it. But I wouldn't think it'd last very long. Well, and we actually- You just-...
• 46:16
you know, we- Did you-... the way this was- Did you take a picture? Did I- We just shoved it from the back. We didn't actually, like, use the handle and, and, like, drag it. Um- So you're not even close to professional.
• 46:25
No, we're not even close. Did you, like, slide and then do- Did you-... the little spinny things? Did you seriously think we were? [laughs] He got on his knee with the one foot in the back. I was...
• 46:31
That was not on my knee, but just shove it as hard as you can. [laughs] And, uh- Well, I'm assuming we're only gonna use, like, half the r-... We'd probably do...
• 46:38
We'd probably have six going at a time because if there's, there's three and shrink. Uh, they didn't look like they're the full length of a regular curling thing. I don't know what.
• 46:43
I've never- I don't think you can get those in here anyway... I don't know how curling's supposed to work. I just... The only, the only experience I have is Busch Light curling. [laughs] That means...
• 46:49
But that means that you are now the expert and you are running it. In this, in this trial. But I have more experience in this than you. [laughs] I will be, I will be- Yes. Yes...
• 46:55
I will do whatever you need me to do to you. Totally leaning on you. Mm-hmm. Got it. [laughs] Oofta. Good, I'm glad we... [laughs] You bet it was. What? Wow, that was very Norwegian.
• 47:06
I just, I just- [laughs] It was, that was, that was fantastic you said that because I just got a text from Carrie a little bit ago that she's... I think she's doing a running race out in Vegas, and she says I was...
• 47:13
I'm talking like I'm from Minnesota all day today. Oh, yeah? I'm like, "What does that mean? We don't have an accent." She goes, "Yeah, you betcha." [laughs] Yeah, I would usually do it too. For six...
• 47:23
I said, "Uh, maybe some people do." I didn't realize how bad mine was until I came down here to college and, and dug, like, you out. Oh, you were in a bad spot. Go, go, go. Yeah.
• 47:31
The only thing worse than you is, like, go to Waynesboro. I don't know if Waynesboro's as bad as it was, but when Waynesboro first- No. Not anymore I don't think. Isn't it? No. Waynesboro was horrible for a while. Yeah?
• 47:41
I mean, for this area. Well, that's, I mean, that's the same region kind of where I grew up. I mean, that's what- Yeah... the demographic is. Yeah. White Norwegian- Yeah... I don't know. Pale as fuck.
• 47:52
[laughs] Corn fed farm boys. I had a fucking [laughs] pale as fuck, yes. Yes. That's why, that's why I questioned whether you'd...
• 47:58
I'd take you to Arizona again 'cause alls you did was whine about the heat in the middle of February. I broke out. I was so hot. I haven't been that hot for that long. [laughs] You know what? They make cream for that.
• 48:09
[laughs] I had it. He had- I had s- I had stinking pills. I had- He was... I got sun- I'm dead serious... yeah, I still got fucking blisters. I think, guess what he wore? His biking outfit. Shorts. Yeah, that was dumb.
• 48:19
Yeah. Yes. I wore fur in the desert. [laughs] Fur. [laughs] Now I feel like you're a girl. It's, like, way more important to, like, look cool than it is to be comfortable. Well, it was a tunic- You, like-...
• 48:28
so there was a lot of ventilation underneath. [laughs] And there was no sleeves, but yeah. [laughs] Anyway. Oh, good Lord. Anyway. Anyway. That was one... That was a fun time. I'd like to go- That was a good t-...
• 48:39
back to South Arizona. Yeah, that's... I, um, let's see. Who's hosting it? Oh, it's back in Tucson next year. Oh, is it? Out of the... You, have you ever done Tucson?
• 48:47
Um, we went down that- I- 'Cause we went down for SingleSpeed Arizona, and we stayed a week, and then we did the 24 Hours of Old Pueblo. Right. Yeah. And, and I know guys who they... I'd... Still be fun to do.
• 48:56
When I quit, when I quit coaching, we're gonna go do that again because that is... Although, alls you hear about, talk about fucking up the professionals, that's all you do at 24 Hours of Old Pueblo.
• 49:05
[laughs] There's no, like- Well, that's where we met, um, uh-... Candy and Jolly. Remember? And Back of the Pack. Yeah. I mean, I don't know if you know those or- Right. Yeah, they were all there. Yep.
• 49:14
And then, and then, uh, um, [laughs] so I s- they br- they called me from there this year, uh, s- Oh, they did? Pat and those guys. 'Cause they're like, "Can Ron, can Chewy take me h- back to camp?"
• 49:25
Because remember when Princess got so drunk that I had, I had... He was not leaving the, the tequila tree unless I took him back to camp. Oh, that's right. Remember that? [laughs] Mm-hmm, I remember that tequila tree.
• 49:36
Little spooky on my part, first time I met the guy, but yeah, he's- [laughs] Well, they, they had TVs. Remember the TVs?
• 49:42
And they set up their vans, and they had, like, a tent, and they had a rug, and they had- Oh, yeah... satellite television, and they had... That was their- A tent and a rug. Yeah...
• 49:50
th- th- like, they had a van with, like, a awning, whatever. Like, a awning or a rainier or whatever. Yeah. But their awnings f- like, theirs are like- They had a couch in there. Yeah.
• 49:57
Like, it s- it was like they set up a living room in the desert right next to the race course, and they had satellite TV, and they're just, like, watching games and doing things. And alls they did...
• 50:03
They didn't really race. Alls they did is sit and heckle. Yeah. But you gotta be there, like, like a week before to get your spot. Sounds like a great spot to sit. No, I've always wanted to do this.
• 50:10
Sav and I talked about doing this too, and I still wanna do it at some...
• 50:14
And I kinda wanna do it at Gravel Road Races because I'm sick of Gravel Road Races, but we talked about doing it at mountain bike races, Sav and I.
• 50:20
Like, get a nice big piece of carpet and some furniture, and then g- go set up in the middle of a race. In, in just- Like, out in the middle of nowhere... the middle of just like a clear, like a clear area or something.
• 50:28
Just like out in the middle of nowhere... and then, and then bitch at everybody for riding through our living room. Like, sit on either side reading a paper, drinking coffee. That sounds so much fun. Yeah.
• 50:34
And then just, you know, sitting in a robe and nothing on underneath it and just going, "Get the fuck out of my living room." [laughs] That would be hilarious. I know it.
• 50:41
I s- now I wanna do it to gravel races 'cause they've gotten far too serious. Oh. You know you should d- get a toilet and sit on the toilet. Oh, that's perfect. [laughs] No. And just sit there with a newspaper.
• 50:49
[laughs] And just be flipping through the newspaper, somebody rides by and you're just like- They kinda wrecked it though because they already got the couch in the middle of Gravel Road Races- Yeah...
• 50:55
where everybody stops to have their pictures taken with it. Yeah. Salsa's, uh, jump, uh... What is that? A fainting couch? What do you call that? A couch with one arm. Uh... Oh, it's, uh... You know what I'm saying.
• 51:05
Yeah. Yes, I know exactly what you're saying. Uh- Becomes the character's couch, but I don't think that's what they're called. No, no, no, no, no. There's a name for it. Um- I think they call it that. Yeah. It, yeah.
• 51:12
[laughs] But yeah, so we- I mean, you could bring a salon chair and, like, set up a salon too. Oh my God. I mean, like, why not? Well, that's- You could have, like, three salon chairs in a row.
• 51:18
But no, that's, but, but- Yeah, that's right [laughs]... but that's, but, so we, so if we decide to bail on, on, uh, Nordic Fest and go over to d- go r- over to Milwaukee for Riverwest- Yeah...
• 51:29
then we have to bring all the salon chairs over there because that's Greg's idea. Oh. That's what...
• 51:33
He wants two for, for Riverwest, for Riverwest 24, and then Tony's gonna use his, and he goes, "If you come over, you have to bring yours." So we could, we could have...
• 51:41
I've got two, so we could have five of them over there. [laughs] Okay. That was a very, that was a very evil laugh, by the way. [laughs] I feel like we need an Alvin on that one. That's my hungover laugh. I don't know.
• 51:54
Oh, yeah. No, uh, gosh, something just came... Oh, did, like, my chat to, uh, uh, Pat, Scandinavian Jesus, what he said was [laughs] nobody responded. I thought that had to be funny.
• 52:06
No, but I sent it to, like, 500 people. [laughs] So he's like, "I, I talk by Snapchat. That's how I talk to everybody now." Yeah.
• 52:13
And especially Bush Lake or anything like, you're gonna do dumb shit, so I Snapchat everybody. That's just, like, the thing, and he doesn't have one. Yeah. But we talked about it, 'cause he was here.
• 52:21
He came here to do scouting for SingleSpeeds- Right, yep... uh, USA, and that was going on. We didn't make it over. So I wanted to send him Snaps and videos. I can't, you can't video text, right? Right.
• 52:31
You just Snapchat the video. And he's like, "No, I'm 40 years old. I don't have Snapchat." Like, "You fucking dick." [laughs] Like, "You send Polaroids of your dick through the mail. Use your fucking Snapchat."
• 52:41
[laughs] [laughs] And nobody responded to that. Did you, did you respond back?
• 52:47
I, no, because I, I, I, I took a, I took a picture of that and I sent that to I don't know how many people, 'cause that was- I, yeah, I got it. [laughs] He sent it to me.
• 52:54
It was the funniest fucking conversation I'd saw, so I'm like, "Oh, this has gotta go out." I bet that's a sticker. [laughs] It has to be. Oh. I feel like it should be. Bringing up stickers. Yeah.
• 53:03
I've told you the story about the stickers, right? Yeah. The, the one, the one, the Fuck Alcott ones that I made. Uh-uh.
• 53:09
So we got one of our buddies that plays hockey with us, and one night we're at the club after it was done, and he was being really pissy about something, like Kelly cut the pizzas in triangles instead of squares. Oh.
• 53:19
Something like that. Okay. And so Kelly right away is like, "Fuck off, Alcott," right?
• 53:23
[laughs] And then so this little alley D, this one gal that plays with us that's just this tiny little thing, but she's got a mouth on her that'll go... And she was cocksuckering him all night long.
• 53:31
She's like, "Fuck you, Alcott. Fuck off, Alcott." [laughs] So all of a sudden I go, "That should be a sticker." [laughs] That'd be serious. And so I called Sticker Guy and he's like, "Yeah, how many you want?
• 53:40
20 bucks for 200." I'm like, "Fine." Sticker Guy. [laughs] Again, again, another $20 thing. If we got it for 20 bucks, I'm probably gonna buy it, it seems like, right? Yeah.
• 53:47
So I bought 200 of them for 20 bucks, and then [laughs] I went up to the bar and he came up there. I gave one to Kelly. She put it on her shirt.
• 53:54
Then when she went to hand him the beer, she made sure that she leaned in front of him so he saw the sticker. Mm-hmm. He's like, "Ha ha. Funny." Did she slap one on the pitcher too though? Oh, yeah. Then there was one...
• 54:02
They bring out another pitcher, there's one on the pitcher. There was one on the bag of peanuts. There was one... You know, I got 200 of these goddamn things, right? And then it was all wrong. He was not happy.
• 54:10
He goes, "I don't know, Hant..." All let's say I had 15 of them still in a bag, right? Mm-hmm. And he's thinking, "I'll take the rest of those." I'm going, "Good. Here you go." He's thinking, and there's no more left.
• 54:20
And then when he left, we just started sticking them on again 'cause I still had 50 with me. And we, we put them on the, on a railing by one of the, [laughs] by one of the bar stools. Oh, no.
• 54:28
[laughs] His, his mom saw it. [laughs] Oh, dear. So, so now he's mad at us and won't even t- Oh. He plays hockey with us, but he doesn't go out with anymore.
• 54:37
So last night after I was drowning my sorrows at the bar of losing a game, uh, his kid comes in. Oh. And, and him and his, and their friends are all going, "Oh, those stickers are so funny."
• 54:47
I was gonna say, they love it. And I'm like- That's awesome... "You know what?" Woo. I had, like, 40 of them in my bag. So I gave him... I, and they put those son of bitches everywhere.
• 54:55
They were, their, the girls were sending Alcott's girlfriend a- might, uh, the, Brian, his son's girlfriend, and one of her friends, like, put them on their hats and sent him pictures.
• 55:06
[laughs] He's never gonna play hockey with us again. Love it. He's gonna be so mad. But it's like, "You can't be mad at me. It's your son who's doing it. He has the same last name, and he thinks it's funny as shit."
• 55:16
[laughs] He goes, "I'm fucking getting a snowmobile." [laughs] Nice. Ah, it's ridiculous. Well, good. I'm glad we did this, this way. Otherwise it was this doom and gloom podcast [laughs] got a little better anyway.
• 55:30
Yeah, yeah. [laughs] God. I didn't mean to get that way, but it's just- No, that's all right... my life has been like lately. [laughs] I, but again, I, I got this new podcast.
• 55:37
Oh, you're, you haven't heard all the voices, have you? See. Oh, yeah. Let's- Well, I think I only heard it through- We have this one. This voice for the kids. We really like this one.
• 55:43
[laughs] If you're, if you're gonna laugh, it has to be this one. This is my favorite one. [laughs] Oh, man. I can't stand it. But- Um, there's one of the ones- But you can't get music. All you have is voices.
• 55:57
[laughs] No, no, no. I wa- [laughs] Well- No, I, I keep putting, I keep put- It's a work in progress... I keep putting music on here, but it doesn't keep it. Well, the, when you recorded it, that top button was green.
• 56:06
Yeah, but see there's- It was the green one, the music... the cool thing about this one is, is, like, the other one you had to, like, go in and change channels so there's just one set of buttons. Yeah.
• 56:13
And now it's got this. I can toggle through. So these should have, they should have Drew doing the sneaker thing, and then the two, Clay's two, um, intro songs for us, right? Yeah.
• 56:22
But every- I put them in there, but they don't stay. But it was like that wouldn't, when you brought it down the first time.
• 56:27
Well, right, because we- And they were in there and saying- Because the kids were playing with it, right... "'Cause you rolled through mom." Yeah, I don't, I don't know, I don't know if I have to...
• 56:32
I maybe have to do something in the setup of the, of, uh- Have him come down and tell, tell you how to work your stuff. [laughs] Like, oh. Have Jack come down. That's what I said.
• 56:39
I said, I said, "Have Jack come back and give you a tutorial." Yeah. [laughs] So when we have to do, so when we have to do video with this, Jack's gonna help us set it up. Ooh. 'Cause Jack's got it figured out.
• 56:46
He's, he's a very smart... He is such a sav. Oh, really? Oh my God. Like, he's walking around here and I'm going... I kept texting Sav while I was, like, over in the couch, letting the kids just have this area.
• 56:56
I'm sitting over there going, "Oh, he is you." [laughs] And he, and, and Sav says something like, "Yes, I'm reminded of that every day." [laughs] He deserves that. That's funny. Pay it in the ass every day.
• 57:07
What comes around goes around. Yeah. Yeah, right back at you, buddy. God, it was so funny. Yeah, he, so they, the boys were having fun. They, they, um- That's good...
• 57:15
uh, I, they, they're hoping that this audio makes it, like, so they, like, rise to the top of the group, but there's, everybody else is using their, their phones and stuff- Oh. It's sad...
• 57:22
and all, they've got the professional setups, so they were... And they, they knew what they were doing. They were having fun. Yeah. They're g- we'll have to learn from the kids once again. Yeah.
• 57:30
Benji's doing this now, too. Yeah. Did Benji, uh, talk to you- I know it... about getting a setup?
• 57:34
Oh, yeah, well, he borrowed this and did some stuff with it and figured out, I think, I think that's what he bought is one of these. Okay. But I, no offense to Benji, but I was kinda dozing off.
• 57:43
[laughs] And the, he's, he has such good information and he's such a sweetheart, and I can't fucking stand it. [laughs] Jesus.
• 57:52
In fact, he needs to come over and get my stuff because I still have a skate lace tightener on, out of my deck that he hasn't picked up for me yet. Ooh. Oh. Damn kid. Yeah. Well, he's in town every day. Yeah. Is he?
• 58:02
He'd been gone for a bit, wasn't he? Well, he lives here. Yeah, he lives here. [laughs] No, but he don't... He said he was gone for a bit. That's why I hadn't been over and picked it up yet. Oh, okay. Oh, no.
• 58:08
He lives here. Oh. He just did a presentation with Rotary. Why does he live here? Huh? Oh, he did that with Rotary. Oh, he's stuck in a fucking cult. That's his problem. Yeah. No, no, no. He's, no, he's not. Yeah.
• 58:15
But he and Ferman came and- How did that go? That- It was good. It was really good. So Carlson, they've been pushing Carlson Park, which is- Yeah... which is south of town another, how many acres? Huge project.
• 58:23
400 acres of- I, yeah, it's-... more mountain bike trails for us. I think it's five. Well, I mean, there's 500 acres. I don't know if you can, how many, how many miles of trails you can put on there. Yeah.
• 58:32
I know they're running into a problem 'cause we wanted to get Rock Solid down here to do it, and, um, you have to get a plan.
• 58:38
You have to have the architecture plan in order to get the city and Park and Rec to approve it. To buy in, yeah. Who's Rock Solid? Yeah. Rock Solid is, uh- It's a company... Aaron Myers, the big one out of, uh- Yeah...
• 58:47
uh, Copper Harbor. Um, they build a lot of Arkansas trails. Rock Solid- What the hell do you, what do you need those guys for? Which they actually showed some pretty cool clips of.
• 58:55
I am good with it because build that shit out there and leave my fucking classic mountain trails alone. Oh, I get you. Okay. No, I'm with you. Sorry. No, sorry. [laughs] So- My bad. You're, I totally agree with you 100%.
• 59:04
I don't w- Yes... I like im- I don't want IMBA shit in- No, I know... our classic trails. But- I would put it out there, please. Yeah. Yeah.
• 59:09
And I think that's what the intent is, is what they were saying is to, like, make it more of, like, a beginner track where, like- Well, I think you can get some good stuff off what I would say the, the east side.
• 59:21
Uh, what? If you're on 90, if you look at the- East side of Carlson Park... the far east side where- Yeah... where, where the- Yeah... where the cross-country ski trails or the main trails are out there now- Yeah...
• 59:29
that east side past that- Yeah... looks like there could be, you could get some gnarly shit out of that. Well, it goes all the way down to the river. I mean, that would be the thing if you could- Yeah...
• 59:36
um, use that hillside over there. But we don't own the property all the way down to the river. I don't think so. Oh. I don't kn- know, not yet. [dog barks] We've got, we've got problems. Yeah. The dogs are on high alert.
• 59:46
Yeah. Somebody here? I don't know. Maybe. Another dog walk by. But it does sound like they have a very cool plan, [dog pants] and they're trying to make stuff happen, so, um. Don't stick up for him.
• 59:56
The, the hard part is- That was good. [laughs]... the way that Iowa sets it up is that, uh- I did give him a membership form...
• 1:00:01
you know, a lot of places you bring, you h- you go to the city and you're like, "H- I have $500,000, and I want this trail." And they okay, it's funded. Do what you want.
• 1:00:09
Well, the way that we have to do this one is we need the plan, so Rock Solid would have to come down here and do the architecture, present it, and then they put it out for bid. So- Oh...
• 1:00:21
y- you, you have to split it up into two different things. Instead- Could-... instead of coming down and saying, "Okay, we're gonna do this project. We'll design it. We'll build it," whatever.
• 1:00:27
That's like, we'll design it. Then you can see who's gonna do it the cheapest, and that's who's gonna build it. Yeah. I haven't been down for club meetings- That's a- I, I haven't been down for club meetings for a while.
• 1:00:35
I, I, is, are we gonna go, are we gonna put out, like, for grants for it to them? Um, well, that would be a thing.
• 1:00:41
It's sounds like, and I don't know, you were at the meeting, I wasn't, but it, they were having, uh, problems getting grants even written for it because it has to come from a nonprofit organization, which- So wait, wait, wait, wait.
• 1:00:50
I have to stop this for a second. Oh, there we go. So Rotary's helping write the grant? I'm out. Uh, no. [laughs] No. Will you? We're already over it. I am not jo- I am not joining your cult.
• 1:00:59
Do not sign me up for something else. Huh? Do not sign me up. [laughs] No. So- But if you wanna become a member- No... I mean, like, we can totally- That's not gonna happen... have you do that.
• 1:01:07
I will sell pork chops and that's it. Yeah. [laughs] 'Cause I'm way better at than Spinner. Yes. You can gladly have my job. [laughs] I don't care who sells pork chops- [laughs] I had your job. You can have your job...
• 1:01:17
and who cleans the coolers as long as I don't have to do all of it. Did we do that part? Huh? You did. Maybe. You did. I, I sold pork chops. Yeah.
• 1:01:24
We got, we got, we, we [laughs] I was pres- You were heckling the patrons- [laughs]... out the window, like, hanging out the window- It worked... going, "Hey, get a pork chop." Did it not, did it not work?
• 1:01:35
I kind of thought it worked out well, but- [laughs] I'm not good at sales. I found that out. Like, I was trying to sell, like, the last ones.
• 1:01:41
And remember that guy was, like, always trying to- [laughs] Oh, you were selling them way too cheap. I was gonna make more money off of it. Nearly, like, two for five.
• 1:01:47
A- and the, and, and the best part, yeah, it was two five, like, they're eight bucks a piece. You're selling two for five. You dip- Should be like 10... we should be getting 10 bucks for two. That was what, yeah.
• 1:01:52
And they sold for eight. That wasn't what I was doing. And the, and the, I still think the funniest part is Ward just watched Supper go out the window.
• 1:01:59
[laughs] [laughs] 'Cause Ward's like, "Can you eat all that left over?" He's like, he's like, "Okay, you can have these two, and I'll take a couple," blah, blah, blah.
• 1:02:05
'Cause he's gonna be like, "Nope, I'm selling these fuckers. They're gone." [laughs] It's all about the profit, Ward. All right. We're gonna close this thing down. We're, we're over our time limit. Um- Yeah. Oh, fuck it.
• 1:02:15
I, uh, wait, I don't have any music, do I? Uh, no, you don't. You can try it. Put the Chipmunks back on. No. I- If you can get that top button green, I bet that's the music.
• 1:02:22
I know, but it's not, it does, it should be right there. Yes. Do the- It doesn't do anything when I push it. It doesn't do- Make it, make it green... everybody sing the Chipmunks song. So wait, wait. Here, yeah. Wait.
• 1:02:29
Oh, of course. That way. Everybody say goodbye. [laughs] Okay. We'll see you later. Bye. [laughs] We're done. We're done. That's it. That's good. Goodbye. Boom. Stop it. Stop talking. Okay, I'm done. [laughs]
