- 0:19Speaker 2: This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowher
- 0:23Speaker 2: on Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I see a smile on Mikeya's face. Was it the
- 0:37Speaker 3: customized dope in?
- 0:39Speaker 4: What did it for you? Yeah? Just fill it in
- 0:41Speaker 4: for Colin.
- 0:42Speaker 5: Wasn't I was expecting you to start with it's the Herd.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I was thinking about it.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I really was Israel Goodie eras at Taylor back in Miami.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Mikey a Connecticut.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I am at Syracuse, New York at the new House
- 0:58Speaker 3: School of Broadcasting. Sean McDonough, a proud alum of Syracuse University,
- 1:04Speaker 3: get to join us coming up at twelve twenty five
- 1:07Speaker 3: is he I don't belong here.
- 1:08Speaker 6: I have done shows happening.
- 1:10Speaker 3: From the Medills School at Northwestern I have a key
- 1:14Speaker 3: to that building and now I'm at the new House
- 1:16Speaker 3: School of Broadcasting and legends have graduated from this place.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Legends like Sean McDonough, like Marv Albert, like Kenny Albert,
- 1:24Speaker 3: like Iron Eagle. I don't belong here and so but
- 1:29Speaker 3: this is funny, is he? I was thinking about this.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Had I gone to a school like this, man, would
- 1:34Speaker 3: I be good at broadcasting?
- 1:36Speaker 4: Oh? My god, the facility's here.
- 1:39Speaker 6: Oh, just because of the facilities, I was gonna say,
- 1:41Speaker 6: are you.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Sure the teachers? Yeah? You know.
- 1:46Speaker 6: I don't really know what's happening today. It feels like
- 1:48Speaker 6: a throwback Thursday on a Friday because I was at
- 1:53Speaker 6: home earlier and I saw Skip Bayless on first take
- 1:56Speaker 6: with stephen A, and I was like, that's weird. And
- 1:58Speaker 6: then it's me effectively kind of working with Colin again
- 2:02Speaker 6: like we did in the ESPN days. That's weird. The
- 2:04Speaker 6: amount of times that I was on what's the segment
- 2:07Speaker 6: spanning the Globe? I mean, I felt like I was
- 2:09Speaker 6: a regular on College's old show. Yeah, and then yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 6: you walk in here and like, I don't know what's
- 2:14Speaker 6: going on. Taylor's wearing a Miami Dolphins shirt. It's very confusing.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Why are you wearing a dolphin shirt? Taylor?
- 2:20Speaker 7: Just a laundry day, I had this shirt. So I
- 2:23Speaker 7: was Mac Collins's roommate in college, so I really just
- 2:26Speaker 7: cheer for whatever team Mac Collins is on, and throughout
- 2:29Speaker 7: the years, I've collected a lot of teams gears, the Raiders,
- 2:33Speaker 7: the Dolphins, the Patriots, now the Bills, stint with the Falcons.
- 2:38Speaker 7: This just happened to This was just in the rotation.
- 2:42Speaker 4: It was the only available shirt, is what you're saying, basically,
- 2:45Speaker 4: because the rest is in the laundry, right, I mean.
- 2:47Speaker 7: Correct, It wasn't the only available shirt, but it was
- 2:50Speaker 7: one of the last few remaining shirts.
- 2:53Speaker 6: You know what's do And sometimes even that right there
- 2:55Speaker 6: as a sign, Like sometimes you wake up in the
- 2:57Speaker 6: day and it's just like there's a sign your day
- 3:00Speaker 6: going to be bad. And I kind of knew today
- 3:02Speaker 6: maybe not bad, but weird because I woke up this
- 3:05Speaker 6: morning and my water flosster exploded in my face.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Wow.
- 3:10Speaker 6: And does your day ever really start well when it's
- 3:13Speaker 6: something exploded in your face? Put that on the pole,
- 3:15Speaker 6: tailor does your day ever start well when something explodes
- 3:18Speaker 6: in your face?
- 3:18Speaker 3: Here's what I'll tell you. It could only get better though,
- 3:22Speaker 3: That's it. I mean, it could only get better from there.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Well, then it got immediately worse because yeah, I mean,
- 3:28Speaker 6: I don't know how many people experience this, but probably
- 3:31Speaker 6: a lot.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:32Speaker 6: I got to the gym and I was the least
- 3:35Speaker 6: fit person in the room, and it made me very angry.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Welcome to my.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Life, like to all of our lives.
- 3:42Speaker 6: I was like, at least I can go to my getaway,
- 3:45Speaker 6: you know, my place or I don't have to think.
- 3:47Speaker 6: And I walk in and it's like, I don't know,
- 3:50Speaker 6: a fitness show, just like a muscle lifting show, and
- 3:52Speaker 6: I'm just like, what is going on today?
- 3:54Speaker 7: I was gonna ask who's in the room? Adonis and Robot.
- 3:58Speaker 6: It was two people that I had to ask. Once
- 4:01Speaker 6: they left, I was like, are those two Florida Panthers
- 4:03Speaker 6: players that I don't recognize? Because that's ridiculous? Is he
- 4:08Speaker 6: call me?
- 4:08Speaker 8: When you're the least fit person that walks into a McDonald.
- 4:13Speaker 4: That's what you feel bad for? Exactly? You went Rocky? There?
- 4:17Speaker 4: Is that what you did? Taylor? Rocky Balboa?
- 4:21Speaker 7: Yeah, Adonna's Apollo Creed's son, so I went a little
- 4:24Speaker 7: Creed too.
- 4:25Speaker 3: No, I realized that Adonna's was perfect. It's the Rocky Balboa.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I'm questioning Rockety for perhaps Rocky four he was Chisel.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I mean, listen, you go to Siberia and you work out,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you're trying to take down Drago. That's the best shape
- 4:41Speaker 3: Stallona has ever been in. I'm serious. It's the greatest
- 4:44Speaker 3: workout scene in the history of movies period. End of discussion.
- 4:48Speaker 3: It's just him and the elements.
- 4:50Speaker 4: How about that?
- 4:52Speaker 6: And getting back to your your points to if you
- 4:54Speaker 6: went to Syracuse, I think you would still be this
- 4:58Speaker 6: level of successful I brought you, which is wildly successful.
- 5:02Speaker 3: No, I've had a great ride, considering that I have
- 5:05Speaker 3: no schooling. In this a great ride. I'm just imagining
- 5:08Speaker 3: what kind of ride I would have had had I
- 5:11Speaker 3: had actual schooling. If I had facilities like this and
- 5:15Speaker 3: I had great teachers in a great alumni base that
- 5:17Speaker 3: I could work, how much better the career.
- 5:20Speaker 4: But I would say it's nearly.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Impossible to top the career that I've had doing this
- 5:25Speaker 3: for over twenty years. I replaced Colin.
- 5:28Speaker 6: Well, I'm not gonna let over replace right.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Well, listen, I mean he left, he was doing ten
- 5:33Speaker 3: to one at ESPN.
- 5:35Speaker 4: We were doing afternoons. He left.
- 5:37Speaker 3: We took over that slot and I do remember saying
- 5:40Speaker 3: on the air, I was trying because I wanted ten
- 5:43Speaker 3: to one. I think that's the best slot in radio,
- 5:47Speaker 3: especially for national radio, because stations taking inside the business.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Here local stations want to run their morning and afternoon drive.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Where you get the clearance is in the middays. Plus
- 5:57Speaker 3: you're done, your day is done at one o'clock. And
- 6:01Speaker 3: so I remember going out of my way telling Colin
- 6:05Speaker 3: on the air, not directly to him, although I know
- 6:07Speaker 3: Colin and I've spoken to him. I remember saying trying
- 6:11Speaker 3: to convince him to leave ESPN radio, not because it
- 6:15Speaker 3: was good for him, but because it was good for me.
- 6:22Speaker 6: And I'm happy now.
- 6:25Speaker 3: And then what he did, I immediately and we took
- 6:28Speaker 3: over ten to one. I changed all my fantasy teams
- 6:31Speaker 3: to two pm, T tot.
- 6:32Speaker 4: How about that?
- 6:34Speaker 6: And I'm sure he's so happy somewhere as we're starting
- 6:36Speaker 6: off filling in for him that we're going deep inside
- 6:38Speaker 6: radio right to start.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yes, is he okay? By the way, Colin loves to
- 6:42Speaker 3: go deep inside radio.
- 6:43Speaker 4: He does.
- 6:43Speaker 3: He loves talking about the industry and the business. Yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 3: is Colin okay? There was like he was transportation, there
- 6:50Speaker 3: was an accident. You know we we failed to make
- 6:53Speaker 3: the joke yesterday when we found out he was supposed
- 6:55Speaker 3: to join us that Colin heard the news that we
- 6:57Speaker 3: were filling in and he drove his car off the road.
- 7:02Speaker 7: So I believe Colin was on a train yesterday. Okay,
- 7:05Speaker 7: he takes a train to his car, but Colin Colin
- 7:08Speaker 7: is okay, this was already a scheduled off day. The
- 7:12Speaker 7: hiccup yesterday was I believe his train hit a car
- 7:17Speaker 7: or a car hit his train, and then Colin had
- 7:20Speaker 7: to get an uber from said train station and he
- 7:24Speaker 7: was gonna miss the time that he was supposed to join.
- 7:26Speaker 7: But that's neither here nor there. He was never supposed
- 7:28Speaker 7: to be in today regardless. But I'm curious how his
- 7:32Speaker 7: listeners are listening to the show and these guys are
- 7:34Speaker 7: ever gonna get to basketball?
- 7:36Speaker 6: Heyme on, we're gonna get show come to the herd for.
- 7:40Speaker 3: We're gonna get to Sean McDonough in a couple of minutes.
- 7:43Speaker 3: We will get to basketball right now. In fact, Jason
- 7:46Speaker 3: ep Jason back at Sherman Oaks if we have that
- 7:48Speaker 3: Draymond Green sound again when he was on the set
- 7:51Speaker 3: with Charles Barkley, I want to play it for the audience.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I want to ask Israel Gudierez a question, A difficult,
- 7:58Speaker 3: a tricky question for Israel. Goody era is coming up
- 8:01Speaker 3: after we play this out. Here's Draymond Green on the
- 8:04Speaker 3: set of T and T with Charles Barkley.
- 8:07Speaker 6: Sports are for young people.
- 8:09Speaker 5: You hope to have a great, long career, but sports.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Nobody wins when they're thirty seven, thirty eight. That you
- 8:16Speaker 6: said what you said, I didn't want to hear if
- 8:18Speaker 6: he believes what you're talking. Yeah, I mean I think
- 8:22Speaker 6: the goal is just to not look like you in
- 8:24Speaker 6: the Houston Rockets uniform.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Yeah, it's ultimately the goal for us, Like we don't
- 8:28Speaker 5: want to What does that look like?
- 8:31Speaker 6: Did you see it? I'm just asking I saw it?
- 8:37Speaker 4: Is he?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Here's the question for you. I realized, Raymond. People don't
- 8:42Speaker 3: like him.
- 8:42Speaker 4: I get it. He's annoying. He won't stop talking.
- 8:46Speaker 3: That's not the thing to say to Charles Barkley when
- 8:48Speaker 3: you're sitting on his show, on his set, being interviewed
- 8:51Speaker 3: by those guys.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Okay, it's not right.
- 8:54Speaker 3: But I asked you this question because I had this
- 8:57Speaker 3: you know, I had this debate ago with Lebtard about
- 9:01Speaker 3: whose career do you think Barkley would rather have?
- 9:05Speaker 4: His own? Were Robert Orriy's?
- 9:07Speaker 3: And then we got big Shot Bob on the show
- 9:09Speaker 3: and he said he would rather have Charles Barkley's career
- 9:13Speaker 3: than his own career. But Draymond Green is a lot
- 9:17Speaker 3: better historically in terms of career than Robert Orriy. He is,
- 9:22Speaker 3: He's a Hall of Famer, He's considered one of the
- 9:25Speaker 3: great defensive players we've ever seen in the NBA, and
- 9:28Speaker 3: he has won four rings. So I ask you, this
- 9:31Speaker 3: is he who's you set out your entire life, you work,
- 9:34Speaker 3: you want to play in the NBA, and you get there.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Whose career would you rather have Draymond Green's or Charles Barkley's.
- 9:44Speaker 6: Well, this one isn't really tricky to me anyway, because, okay,
- 9:48Speaker 6: I'll ask you this. I'll answer a question with a question.
- 9:50Speaker 6: Is that a cowhard thing? I'm not one hundred percent sure.
- 9:52Speaker 6: If it is, I'm sorry for stealing his thing. Does
- 9:55Speaker 6: Draymond Green seem happy to you?
- 9:58Speaker 1: No?
- 9:59Speaker 6: Doesn't he seem offensive at all times?
- 10:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:02Speaker 6: Doesn't he? Isn't he the guy who is constantly still
- 10:06Speaker 6: still being criticized or being called Steph Curry's backpack. Yep,
- 10:10Speaker 6: you think he's happy about that. You think the four
- 10:13Speaker 6: rings really really make him happy when he sits there
- 10:17Speaker 6: every single day and has to defend himself against people
- 10:20Speaker 6: who call him a glorified role player, against people who
- 10:23Speaker 6: say that we leave you wide open all the time.
- 10:25Speaker 6: There's for that Steve Martin, and there's no chance that
- 10:34Speaker 6: he is completely satisfied with who he is. I'm sorry, Taylor.
- 10:38Speaker 6: First segment, that's rough, by the.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Way, the audience what we were doing a bit and
- 10:45Speaker 3: Steve Martin's pro We were talking about great prop comics
- 10:48Speaker 3: of all time and someone said, Steve Martin, I said it,
- 10:50Speaker 3: you know, three names later and now it has become a
- 10:53Speaker 3: running joke on the show.
- 10:54Speaker 6: Anyway, go ahead, So if you repeat what somebody just said,
- 10:56Speaker 6: you're just Steve Martin, Steve Morton. But now go to
- 11:01Speaker 6: Charles Barkley, right. And while Charles Barkley was an angry
- 11:05Speaker 6: player right threw people out of a bar window, I
- 11:08Speaker 6: believe was a guy who always stood up for himself.
- 11:13Speaker 6: He seems pretty happy, like he seems pretty satisfied with
- 11:16Speaker 6: his life. Like I mean, this is what I was
- 11:18Speaker 6: talking about yesterday when I said, you know, whether you're
- 11:20Speaker 6: Klay Thompson, who is like bragging about having four rings
- 11:24Speaker 6: after a breakup, which those two aren't even on the
- 11:26Speaker 6: same playing field. And then you've got Draymond Green thinking
- 11:30Speaker 6: that his four rings can allow him to be disrespectful
- 11:33Speaker 6: to a legend like Charles Barkley. The rings don't define
- 11:37Speaker 6: who you are. It's the same way that Draymond Green
- 11:39Speaker 6: is not going to be the next Charles Barkley of
- 11:42Speaker 6: broadcasting because those four rings aren't gonna make him entertaining.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Like he's a good basketball, you know, analyst. He can
- 11:50Speaker 6: tell you stuff, you know that they'll tell you when
- 11:52Speaker 6: the coaches huddle, but he's not gonna entertain you. That
- 11:55Speaker 6: whole Charles Barkley thing was probably supposed to be a
- 11:57Speaker 6: joke that just didn't land, and he just tried to run,
- 11:59Speaker 6: you know, go past it. Kenny Smith was trying to
- 12:01Speaker 6: make it funny, but it really wasn't funny. And so
- 12:04Speaker 6: in that same respect, I would much rather have Charles
- 12:07Speaker 6: Barkley's career and say, look me, as an individual, did
- 12:11Speaker 6: all I can do. It's a team sport, it's not tennis.
- 12:15Speaker 6: I'm not a failure. And so if you want to
- 12:17Speaker 6: call me a failure because Michael Jordan wins six and
- 12:19Speaker 6: zero in the finals, great, that's you creating the ring
- 12:23Speaker 6: culture and making it even worse than it already is
- 12:26Speaker 6: by saying you're a failure. Right, So I'd much rather
- 12:29Speaker 6: have Charles Barkley's career. You know what they say in basketball,
- 12:33Speaker 6: stew gats right when you're talking smack to each other.
- 12:36Speaker 6: The one thing that you could really land on. Hey,
- 12:38Speaker 6: if I play you one on one, I'm gonna kick
- 12:40Speaker 6: your button, right, Draymond Green's not kicking Charles Barkley's anything.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Draymond Green, and one on one will struggle to score
- 12:46Speaker 6: against Charles Barkley. Even a forty year old Charles Barkley.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Is he There were times, though, during Barkley's playing career
- 12:52Speaker 3: where people would say the same thing. He doesn't appear
- 12:55Speaker 3: to be happy. He's mad, he's angry, he's not winning titles.
- 12:59Speaker 3: He's in Philadelphia. He wants to get out of Philadelphia.
- 13:01Speaker 3: He eventually did. He went to Phoenix. He led that
- 13:03Speaker 3: team to the NBA Finals and lost to Michael Jordan.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Because everyone did so.
- 13:10Speaker 6: But he was trying to get there. Draymond already reached
- 13:12Speaker 6: the two four different times, but it's still unhappy.
- 13:15Speaker 3: My point in saying all that is, I think where
- 13:17Speaker 3: you've seen Barkley be the happiest is with his post career.
- 13:21Speaker 3: No one was expecting, not even Charles, for him to
- 13:24Speaker 3: turn into what he's turned into in his post NBA career,
- 13:27Speaker 3: which is maybe the biggest media member we have going.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I mean, he has cart blanche, He could say whatever
- 13:32Speaker 3: he wants with no ramifications whatsoever. And Draymond said something
- 13:36Speaker 3: to him, and Barkley got upset about it, and everyone
- 13:39Speaker 3: is outraged about it, coming from the guy who, for
- 13:41Speaker 3: his entire career has said anything he's wanted to say.
- 13:44Speaker 3: If you could take all the personality stuff and just
- 13:46Speaker 3: put it aside for a second resume, side by side
- 13:50Speaker 3: you went to the NBA, would you rather have Barkley's
- 13:53Speaker 3: career take all the other stuff out of it or
- 13:55Speaker 3: Draymond Green?
- 13:56Speaker 4: Because I'd rather have Draymond Green's.
- 13:58Speaker 6: It's still Barkley. It's still bark If you're asking me,
- 14:00Speaker 6: would I rather have Steph Curry's career at Charles Barkley
- 14:03Speaker 6: out there? Rather have Steph Curry's but I would rather
- 14:05Speaker 6: be Barkley as an individual. It doesn't matter about my
- 14:08Speaker 6: personality as an individual. If I say I've exhausted not
- 14:12Speaker 6: only my ability one thousand percent, and it happened to
- 14:16Speaker 6: be one of the best at that in the game,
- 14:19Speaker 6: I've done everything I could. Dan Marino's not losing sleep
- 14:23Speaker 6: because a GM couldn't get him a running back in
- 14:25Speaker 6: the defense. He was the greatest.
- 14:27Speaker 7: I think the Draymond Green Charles Barkley conversation is further
- 14:32Speaker 7: proof that ring culture has gotten completely out of control.
- 14:36Speaker 7: And the most ironic part about ring culture being out
- 14:39Speaker 7: of control is on this show we have the Tim Robinson.
- 14:43Speaker 7: We're all trying to find the guy who got ring
- 14:45Speaker 7: culture out of control, looking right back at us, at
- 14:48Speaker 7: Stuve Gotts.
- 14:49Speaker 3: It's so true. Yeah, but I want you to think
- 14:53Speaker 3: about this, Okay. If I told you, okay, you could
- 14:56Speaker 3: be Player A, who's defensive Player of the Year. He's gone,
- 15:00Speaker 3: went to the Hall of Fame, he plays on legendary
- 15:02Speaker 3: teams with Stephan Clay and he wins four titles. Or
- 15:05Speaker 3: you could be Player B, doesn't win a ring but
- 15:08Speaker 3: is considered one of the twenty greatest NBA players of
- 15:11Speaker 3: all time, Which career tailor, honestly, which career would you take?
- 15:14Speaker 4: Because I take Draymond's.
- 15:16Speaker 7: Let me flip this back to you. Player A has
- 15:19Speaker 7: eleven rings and is a Hall of Famer. Player B
- 15:22Speaker 7: is a Hall of Famer and has six rings. Whose
- 15:24Speaker 7: career would you rather have?
- 15:25Speaker 4: Uh? Eleven? Uh?
- 15:27Speaker 1: No?
- 15:27Speaker 4: Six?
- 15:27Speaker 7: I'm sorry, got him over, Michael Jordan?
- 15:32Speaker 6: You know you're Raymond.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 3: The rule of the show is if I correct myself
- 15:37Speaker 3: before you speak again, then I correct myself, and I'm right.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Jordan's career. Yes.
- 15:42Speaker 6: Do you know where you'll never find? Draymond made that
- 15:44Speaker 6: up on one of those graphics that say who's gonna
- 15:46Speaker 6: beat this squad? He's never going to be on those ever.
- 15:52Speaker 3: They don't play one on one though.
- 15:55Speaker 6: It doesn't matter, No, no, it doesn't matter. I'm saying, like
- 15:58Speaker 6: you know, U c O. It's Steph, it's Michael, it's Lebron,
- 16:01Speaker 6: it's Tim Duncan, and it's Shack versus Magic Johnson, you know,
- 16:07Speaker 6: Reggie Miller. And he's never going to be on that
- 16:09Speaker 6: graphic because people don't think of him as one of
- 16:12Speaker 6: the greats. He's a great defender and a great role
- 16:15Speaker 6: player on a great team who has a large mouth.
- 16:18Speaker 7: I'm not sure how good Shack would be as a
- 16:20Speaker 7: one on one player, because you would think he would
- 16:23Speaker 7: have a tough time defending some people like Lebron. For me,
- 16:28Speaker 7: first ballot, one on one Hall of Fame Carmelo Anthony.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Really wow, better than Jordan, is what you're saying. That's
- 16:36Speaker 3: what you're doing there, I mean one on one, I
- 16:38Speaker 3: mean iverson.
- 16:40Speaker 7: Jordan, best player of all time? Carmelo Anthony, best bucket
- 16:45Speaker 7: getter of all time.
- 16:47Speaker 6: That's tough, man. You know what, whenever I get to
- 16:52Speaker 6: choose my Mount Rushmore Monday topic, it will be basket
- 16:58Speaker 6: getters of all time.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Okay, yes, Mikey, Is it just me or was that
- 17:02Speaker 3: a heat check by Taylor?
- 17:04Speaker 5: That take?
- 17:04Speaker 4: Right?
- 17:05Speaker 8: There was Taylor chucking one up. Let's just see if
- 17:07Speaker 8: I'm going to drain him from half court.
- 17:09Speaker 7: Listen when you're on the herd, Yes, stress for the job.

- 19:01Speaker 3: of today's show. We will get to the Calves and
- 19:05Speaker 3: Pistons here in just a second. But I realize the
- 19:08Speaker 3: audience is missing Collins, so let's get Ai Collins thoughts
- 19:11Speaker 3: here quickly. Guys on the Pistons Cavs series.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Detroit going up two zip on Cleveland tells you everything.
- 19:20Speaker 1: This isn't a cute story, It's a power move. Cad
- 19:23Speaker 1: Cunningham closes again with twenty five and ten. Tobias Harris
- 19:26Speaker 1: gives you twenty one, and the Pistons are dictating the
- 19:29Speaker 1: terms of the series like the one seed should Cleveland's
- 19:32Speaker 1: getting big nights Donovan Mitchell had thirty one, Jared Allen
- 19:36Speaker 1: had twenty two, and it still feels like they're playing
- 19:38Speaker 1: catch up the whole game.
- 19:42Speaker 3: There's a name there for the calves he left out.
- 19:44Speaker 3: He was three of thirteen from the field. He's terrible
- 19:46Speaker 3: in the postseason. He's James Harden.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Dude, he is so laughable. It is funny to me
- 19:54Speaker 6: that now it was sort of reawakened the James Harden
- 19:57Speaker 6: versus Dwayne Wade who is the better two guard? It
- 20:00Speaker 6: is such a laughable debate, such a laughable debate when
- 20:04Speaker 6: you really think about it, because James Harden is well.
- 20:09Speaker 6: First of all, can you think of the career highlight
- 20:12Speaker 6: defensive play of James Harden?
- 20:15Speaker 4: I cannot, no, no, I can think of one.
- 20:17Speaker 6: It was a no look swipe that he had on somebody.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I want to say it was Patrick Bevma, maybe not.
- 20:21Speaker 6: He just looked the other way and swiped down and
- 20:24Speaker 6: eventually got a steal out of that. That's it, Okay.
- 20:27Speaker 6: Now there are so many highlight blocks and steals from Dwayne.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Wade in fairness all right, but I don't remember any
- 20:32Speaker 4: of them.
- 20:33Speaker 3: So like, in fairness to yours, there aren't many defensive
- 20:36Speaker 3: plays that I remember from individuals in the NBA over
- 20:39Speaker 3: the course of time. I just don't I remember the
- 20:42Speaker 3: steal from Jordan Game six in the NBA Finals against
- 20:45Speaker 3: the Utah Jazz, because.
- 20:46Speaker 6: He's famous of all time, Larry steals the ball, gives
- 20:50Speaker 6: it off to DJ. Excuse me.
- 20:52Speaker 7: Also, what strange circles is? Is he rolling in where
- 20:57Speaker 7: he's saying the conversations between Slayne Wade and James Harden
- 21:01Speaker 7: have been awaken Stu, Those conversations aren't happening in any
- 21:05Speaker 7: of my circles.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I've never had it.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I've never had it with anyone at any time, at
- 21:09Speaker 3: any point, with any person.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Yes, Pat Beverley just reawakened those things by saying that
- 21:14Speaker 6: he was better than Dwayne Wade. Than Dwayne Wade himself.
- 21:16Speaker 6: The man himself went on a pod and said he
- 21:19Speaker 6: shouldn't be talking about me. He can't do anything I
- 21:21Speaker 6: can do. And then he's basically been defending himself against
- 21:24Speaker 6: the James Harden conversation without insulting James Harden by saying, look,
- 21:29Speaker 6: after five years, I already had a Hall of Fame career,
- 21:31Speaker 6: and I don't think you can say the same thing
- 21:33Speaker 6: about him, and so that to me is a laughable debate.
- 21:37Speaker 6: Dwayne impacted the games in ways that you know James
- 21:40Speaker 6: Harden couldn't, and it's just more of a hey, if
- 21:44Speaker 6: my team is missing seventeen consecutive three pointers like his
- 21:49Speaker 6: Houston Rockets deed against the Golden State Warriors one game
- 21:52Speaker 6: in the playoffs, I meaning Dwayne Wade, would have done something,
- 21:56Speaker 6: whether it be a pump fake and get to the line,
- 21:58Speaker 6: something to slow that down, something to keep my team afloat.
- 22:01Speaker 6: I think it's not even a conversation who the best
- 22:03Speaker 6: two guard is, although coming from me, that's going to
- 22:05Speaker 6: be looked at as bias. But in this series, in
- 22:08Speaker 6: these playoffs, Stu James Harden is officially officially in like
- 22:12Speaker 6: Clayton Kershaw territory because when the playoffs come, he's an
- 22:15Speaker 6: entirely different person. I think it's it's either four out
- 22:18Speaker 6: of five or five straight games in these postseason or
- 22:20Speaker 6: he had more turnovers than field Gold's made. And when
- 22:23Speaker 6: you watch him play, he looks like he can't do
- 22:25Speaker 6: anything out there, and then he takes out his frustration
- 22:28Speaker 6: by getting mad at Assar Thompson, who is the most
- 22:31Speaker 6: like innocent defender in the league. He's just a ridiculously
- 22:34Speaker 6: good defender, but is not a smack talker, is not
- 22:37Speaker 6: really somebody that really gets into arguments. James Harden is
- 22:40Speaker 6: just laughable. It's laughable that we see this guy in
- 22:43Speaker 6: the postseason and think, because he goes between the legs
- 22:46Speaker 6: ten times every time he dribbles, that he is some
- 22:48Speaker 6: sort of effective basketball player. It's absolutely maddening to watch
- 22:52Speaker 6: him play at this level. And you've got other people.
- 22:56Speaker 6: I forget who it was, but somebody on a podcast
- 22:58Speaker 6: recently just bragging about how James Harden would be out
- 23:01Speaker 6: till four or five in the morning with Houston during
- 23:04Speaker 6: his MVP days and then just come back to work
- 23:06Speaker 6: the next day and drop sixty. I'm like, imagine if
- 23:09Speaker 6: he didn't do that like that, right, that's not something
- 23:12Speaker 6: to to, you know, to be proud of in your career. Oh,
- 23:16Speaker 6: I could have been better, but I was out clubbing
- 23:19Speaker 6: till five in the morning. Like I know. People want
- 23:22Speaker 6: to put that Michael Jordan thing. Oh, he played golf
- 23:24Speaker 6: till whatever hours of the day and still drop forty
- 23:26Speaker 6: on a team that I think is even a little
- 23:28Speaker 6: bit more acceptable because you're at least doing some other
- 23:31Speaker 6: sort of physical activity that is not drinking alcohol the
- 23:33Speaker 6: whole time. It's just I don't know, it's it really
- 23:36Speaker 6: gets to me how embarrassing that is for somebody who
- 23:40Speaker 6: is supposed to be an all time great.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Yeah, you're really taking this one personally. It seems like,
- 23:45Speaker 3: I mean, you just like the disdain forgetting the conversation.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Well now it's amazing, like, like, listen, this is how
- 23:52Speaker 3: I do with three of thirteen.
- 23:53Speaker 4: He's terrible in the postseason.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Everything looks good until he starts shooting, and then it
- 23:57Speaker 3: starts to look bad when it clanks off the rim
- 23:59Speaker 3: because he's not good in the season. But is he
- 24:01Speaker 3: somehow made it about Dwayne Wade, and God bless him,
- 24:04Speaker 3: he loves Dwayne Wade. But I'm not certain anyone's having
- 24:07Speaker 3: those conversations. And if Dwayne Wade is responding to any
- 24:10Speaker 3: sort of conversation where someone is saying James Harden is
- 24:13Speaker 3: better than he is, he shouldn't respond. His game did
- 24:16Speaker 3: all the talk.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Dwayne Wade having the conversation, then people are having the conversation.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Stop having that conversation. It's a dumb conversation for Wade
- 24:24Speaker 3: to have. Of course he's better than James Harden. Stop
- 24:27Speaker 3: talking about it. Not you, Dwayne Wade.
- 24:29Speaker 6: Know, and a lot of people would say James Harden
- 24:31Speaker 6: is better. That's why it's a conversation.
- 24:32Speaker 4: No one, no one, no one would say that. Who
- 24:34Speaker 4: would say that?
- 24:35Speaker 7: And if they did say it, they will not say it.
- 24:37Speaker 7: After I read this stat here that I saw on
- 24:40Speaker 7: NBA Reddit, I had a fact check this maybe forty
- 24:43Speaker 7: times because it's that unbelievable. James Harden played his one
- 24:47Speaker 7: hundred and eighty second career playoff game tonight with four
- 24:51Speaker 7: turnovers and three made field goals. It was his forty
- 24:54Speaker 7: six playoff game that he's had as many or more
- 24:58Speaker 7: turnovers than made few. That's over twenty five percent of
- 25:03Speaker 7: his career playoff games.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Like I saw somebody say that he is now getting
- 25:07Speaker 6: into It might have been stephen A. The Russell Wilson conversation,
- 25:11Speaker 6: are you playing your way out of maybe not the
- 25:13Speaker 6: Hall of Fame but all time great conversations like it
- 25:16Speaker 6: is just becoming painfully obvious.
- 25:18Speaker 7: So the way stephen A. Smith worded it, STU. He said,
- 25:22Speaker 7: James Harden's Hall of Fame status is on the verge
- 25:25Speaker 7: of being revoked.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Wow. Really, so he was in and now he's revoking
- 25:29Speaker 4: his status. Wow, that's uh. Steven A.
- 25:32Speaker 7: Smith had his card and it's it's on the verge
- 25:36Speaker 7: of being taken away from there.
- 25:37Speaker 6: Here's what the problem is is yes, go ahead?
- 25:40Speaker 4: Sorry is it?
- 25:40Speaker 7: No?
- 25:41Speaker 5: No?
- 25:41Speaker 6: The problem is is that we're obsessed with scoring in
- 25:44Speaker 6: a way that maybe we weren't before, right, because there
- 25:47Speaker 6: were times where we would see a guy have big
- 25:50Speaker 6: scoring numbers and then just recognize, Okay, it's a little gimmicky.
- 25:54Speaker 6: It's it's regular season quality, right, and effectiveness. But when
- 25:59Speaker 6: you really like break it down or if you really
- 26:02Speaker 6: defend it hard over the course of a seven game series,
- 26:05Speaker 6: it's not going to be as effective because if you
- 26:07Speaker 6: think about what Harden's go tos are, it's step back three, which, again,
- 26:12Speaker 6: even if he is the best in the league at it,
- 26:14Speaker 6: percentage wise, not a great shot, and then drawing fouls
- 26:17Speaker 6: when getting too the rim. Well, if you're not drawing
- 26:20Speaker 6: those fouls anymore, I mean, where are you going? What
- 26:23Speaker 6: is your go to? How are you affecting the game.
- 26:25Speaker 6: It's certainly not on defense, and it's certainly not with
- 26:28Speaker 6: what like mid range pull ups. He just doesn't have that.
- 26:30Speaker 6: He's a two level scorer effectively either threes or layups,
- 26:34Speaker 6: and so it's just not effective come playoff time. And
- 26:37Speaker 6: it's really frustrating to see whether it be all time
- 26:41Speaker 6: Great conversations or people convincing themselves that he is going
- 26:44Speaker 6: to be different with the Cleveland Cavaliers. When why are
- 26:47Speaker 6: we convincing himselfs ourselves of this? We've seen enough evidence
- 26:50Speaker 6: to the contrary.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Steven A.
- 26:53Speaker 8: Smith is the guy to revoke your NBA Hall of
- 26:55Speaker 8: Fame card, right, Like he's the guy that gets to
- 26:58Speaker 8: take it away from you.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Burke, yeah, Boba Dorris maybe, yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 6: Jackie McMillin maybe. I think people are of the verst.
- 27:07Speaker 6: That's very Boston. I grew up braiding them, so that
- 27:09Speaker 6: the first name that came to mind.
- 27:11Speaker 4: But is he?
- 27:11Speaker 3: I don't mean to say this, like I'm not trying
- 27:13Speaker 3: to upset you. Just who was having these conversations about
- 27:16Speaker 3: James Harden being an all time great?
- 27:18Speaker 6: That's where I mean, I could I could list them
- 27:20Speaker 6: for you, but.
- 27:20Speaker 7: Just look at does James Harden have this big fan base?
- 27:25Speaker 7: Like I don't associate James Harden with with having like
- 27:28Speaker 7: this devoted following that's going to defend James Harden to
- 27:31Speaker 7: the end of the earth, because he seems like a
- 27:33Speaker 7: tough player to kind of defend to the end of
- 27:35Speaker 7: the earth. Like listening, Jalen Brunson is my guy. I
- 27:39Speaker 7: will defend Jalen Brunson, so the end of time. But
- 27:42Speaker 7: that's Knicks fan saying they'll defend Harden or Knicks fan
- 27:45Speaker 7: saying they'll defend Brunson Brunton. Harden doesn't really have that
- 27:49Speaker 7: team that he's really associated with anymore.
- 27:51Speaker 6: There are people who suggest James Harden changed the game forever,
- 27:55Speaker 6: like they'll just show you the images of people defending
- 27:59Speaker 6: him from the side from the side so that he
- 28:02Speaker 6: wouldn't be able to do his you know, little step
- 28:04Speaker 6: back move and everything else. And really all that is
- 28:07Speaker 6: is just James Harden perfecting the act of a like
- 28:13Speaker 6: the referees, right, He's using the way the game is
- 28:16Speaker 6: officiated to his benefit. And so therefore the other players
- 28:19Speaker 6: were literally throwing their hands up in the air and saying,
- 28:21Speaker 6: I don't know what you want me to do. I'm
- 28:22Speaker 6: gonna try this crazy stuff over here, when really he
- 28:25Speaker 6: wasn't this dynamic athlete or basketball player who was doing
- 28:30Speaker 6: all of these amazing things. He basically took advantage of
- 28:32Speaker 6: a couple of rules where you can't touch a shooter,
- 28:35Speaker 6: and you know he's going to reach down and make
- 28:37Speaker 6: you reach his arm and slap at his arm when
- 28:39Speaker 6: he goes to the bucket and he's going to get
- 28:40Speaker 6: his free throws. That's it. That's his power, that's his superpower.
- 28:44Speaker 6: And when that's not going to be there all the time,
- 28:46Speaker 6: he's going to look like a less than average player.
- 28:48Speaker 6: That's not who you want leading your team.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Those people are dumb.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Who's ever saying that, Who's ever having these conversations? They're
- 28:53Speaker 3: just I'm not saying they're not having those conversations. It's
- 28:56Speaker 3: just I'd never thought of James Harden as an all
- 28:58Speaker 3: time great. I'll never think of James Harden as an
- 29:00Speaker 3: all time grade. I think he would have been had
- 29:02Speaker 3: a better chance of being an all time grade. And
- 29:04Speaker 3: Kevin Durant, by the way, if the three of them
- 29:06Speaker 3: just stayed together, Westbrook, Durant, and Harden, if they somehow
- 29:09Speaker 3: just stayed together, perhaps James Harden would be in the
- 29:12Speaker 3: conversation of all time greade.
- 29:14Speaker 4: I just wasn't aware.
- 29:15Speaker 3: And again, I don't say this to upset you that
- 29:16Speaker 3: there's some weird James harden Colt who defends him at
- 29:19Speaker 3: all costs.
- 29:20Speaker 4: You know, it's crazy.
- 29:22Speaker 7: One of the names mentioned for the Hall of Fame
- 29:24Speaker 7: card status holder was Bob Bryan. And I have my
- 29:30Speaker 7: Twitter notifications on for anytime Bob Brian tweets, and once
- 29:33Speaker 7: I heard the name Bob Brian, I was like, this
- 29:35Speaker 7: is my land to talk a little Bob Bryan. Somebody
- 29:38Speaker 7: tweeted a picture that said name a famous queen not
- 29:43Speaker 7: named Victoria or Elizabeth, and Bob Bryan responded to the
- 29:47Speaker 7: tweet and said, latifa.
- 29:53Speaker 4: He get him on. It is classic, Bob. You're right.
- 30:02Speaker 3: We used to do a segment called we used to
- 30:04Speaker 3: have Bob on to explain his tweets because sometimes they're
- 30:08Speaker 3: a bit all over the place, and Bob would come on,
- 30:10Speaker 3: I'd read them to him, I'd read him to the audience,
- 30:12Speaker 3: and then he would explain that what he was trying
- 30:14Speaker 3: to say, go ahead, Taylor, but.
- 30:16Speaker 7: We don't need any exploit explanation there, like.
- 30:18Speaker 4: That Queer Queen with Queen.
- 30:22Speaker 6: Bob Bryan has always had his thumb on the pulse
- 30:25Speaker 6: of pop culture in the nineties.
- 30:30Speaker 3: And that sweet should be on the Mount Rushmore of tweets. Seriously,
- 30:34Speaker 3: that is a great job. It's so unsuspecting from Bob Ryan.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Uh speaking of Mount Rushmore's listen, bord Ot Ricardo. I'm
- 30:44Speaker 3: going to Ai Colin here, Okay, I just want to
- 30:47Speaker 3: let you know, so you take your eyes off the
- 30:49Speaker 3: TV and stop watching soccer for a minute. The Mount Rushmore,
- 30:52Speaker 3: according to Ai Colin of New York Knicks, four of.
- 30:57Speaker 1: New York Knicks starts with Patrick Ewing fifteen years franchise Cornerstone,
- 31:02Speaker 1: the Face of the Garden. Then I'm going Walt Clyde, Fraser,
- 31:05Speaker 1: Willis Reid, and I'll put Jalen Brunson on it right
- 31:07Speaker 1: now because he's already shacking forty point nights and dragging
- 31:10Speaker 1: them through big moments. That's the miss titles legacy and
- 31:14Speaker 1: the modern engine.
- 31:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 31:16Speaker 6: I think Ai Colin might be a victim to recency bias. Also,
- 31:21Speaker 6: you had mellow probably, no, not necessarily mellow.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Bernard King.
- 31:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I gotta go Bernard King. I mean, look, while
- 31:30Speaker 6: we were talking to Greene yesterday, I spend most of
- 31:32Speaker 6: the time just looking at Bernard King's stats that dude
- 31:35Speaker 6: was good. Talk about the king. He should have been
- 31:37Speaker 6: a chosen one, right.
- 31:39Speaker 7: I also have another. I also have another athlete if
- 31:42Speaker 7: they were named after a designer brand.
- 31:45Speaker 4: What O?
- 31:48Speaker 7: What is this right, Jeff Giorgio ARMANI that's.
- 31:52Speaker 5: A good.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Do you have? Demosh Leia Forno's that wrong? I'm so stupid?
- 32:00Speaker 3: Eight seven seven for the Herd eight seven seven for
- 32:03Speaker 3: the Herd is.
- 32:04Speaker 6: By the way, ste I also believe that No, I'm
- 32:06Speaker 6: just run right through this. I also believe that James
- 32:08Speaker 6: Harden is going to ruin these Cavaliers. He's gonna ruin
- 32:11Speaker 6: these cavaliers. Donovan Mitchell is already not like the vocal
- 32:16Speaker 6: like raw raw, let's go leader, and then James Harden
- 32:20Speaker 6: is definitely not that right. So if James Harden is
- 32:22Speaker 6: playing like poo poo, you're not gonna see Donovan Mitchell
- 32:25Speaker 6: go after him. In fact, I don't know if you
- 32:26Speaker 6: saw this after the game where Donovan Mitchell is like,
- 32:29Speaker 6: We're not worried. He's James Harden. That's exactly why you
- 32:32Speaker 6: should be worried. Like, honestly, if I'm the coach there,
- 32:35Speaker 6: I'm probably lessening his minutes to like twenty four to
- 32:38Speaker 6: twenty two and then just see what happens, because it's
- 32:40Speaker 6: pretty obvious when you continually have more turnovers than field
- 32:43Speaker 6: goals made, you should not be the point guard.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Taylor put it on the poll. Does is he care
- 32:48Speaker 3: about James Harden more than any other person on the planet.
- 32:52Speaker 6: I've never cared about a Cleveland Cavaliers basketball playoff series
- 32:55Speaker 6: more than this one because of James Harden.
- 32:57Speaker 4: So I mean, I'll look it up. Yeah, go ahead,
- 32:59Speaker 4: to go ahead.
- 33:01Speaker 7: As a Yankee fan, to me, what this feels like
- 33:04Speaker 7: is I am hyper aware to anytime anybody says anything
- 33:07Speaker 7: about Derek Jeter to where if I'll like just be
- 33:11Speaker 7: walking down the street and all of a sudden, my
- 33:13Speaker 7: spidy senses start tingling, being like, I could I know
- 33:15Speaker 7: somebody right now in Boston on w EE I is
- 33:19Speaker 7: talking about Derek Jeter not being that great of a defender.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Right, Taylor? I know you.
- 33:26Speaker 3: We were talking about, you know, wrong place, wrong time,
- 33:29Speaker 3: kind of hall of fame, right place, right, Tom Taylor,
- 33:32Speaker 3: leave the room for a second, Okay, just if you
- 33:34Speaker 3: wouldn't mind, because I want to ask these guys a question.
- 33:36Speaker 6: Don't you dare game together over here?
- 33:44Speaker 4: No?
- 33:44Speaker 3: Really because because I do believe, like with Draymond Green,
- 33:48Speaker 3: I was thinking about this.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Michael Irvin once told me.
- 33:51Speaker 6: Really thinking about Draymond Green on not the last twenty
- 33:53Speaker 6: four hours I.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Really have because I don't listen. I've been thinking about
- 33:56Speaker 3: his career and whether or not I would like to
- 33:58Speaker 3: have his career. But Draymond Green is not a guy
- 34:03Speaker 3: if you placed him, if he was drafted by the Hornets. Okay,
- 34:07Speaker 3: there's no way that Draymond Green has the career that
- 34:10Speaker 3: he's had. So he landed right place, right time.
- 34:14Speaker 4: Okay.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Michael Irvin used to tell me that there are guys
- 34:17Speaker 3: who win championships, and there are guys who win those
- 34:20Speaker 3: guys championships, meaning the reason they have rings is because
- 34:24Speaker 3: of guys like Michael Jordan. And there's a big, big difference. Now,
- 34:28Speaker 3: basketball is a different sport. You're playing five at a time.
- 34:31Speaker 3: One guy is as important in that sport than any
- 34:34Speaker 3: other sport. So, Taylor, I need you to leave the
- 34:37Speaker 3: room for a second when I ask these guys this question,
- 34:39Speaker 3: because I want them to guess what your reaction is
- 34:41Speaker 3: going to be. Okay, he's gone, Derek Jeter, if he
- 34:48Speaker 3: goes to the Pirates. Okay, right place, right time, Mikey's
- 34:52Speaker 3: gonna get mad at me, already see it. But if
- 34:54Speaker 3: Derek Jeter plays out his entire career with the Pittsburgh Pirates,
- 34:58Speaker 3: we do not think of Derek Jeter the way we
- 35:01Speaker 3: do today is that fair.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Is, right place, right time. Hall of Fame.
- 35:09Speaker 4: Yes, I'm saying if he played for the Pirates, he
- 35:11Speaker 4: would not be Derek Jeter. He would be.
- 35:13Speaker 6: But you know what I'm saying, I think Taylor will
- 35:15Speaker 6: divorce you on the spot. I think it's just the
- 35:18Speaker 6: new show is just going to miss you that and
- 35:20Speaker 6: maybe I issy that's no company, no company, No Taylor
- 35:25Speaker 6: company is leaving now, the VIP room gone.
- 35:27Speaker 7: I'll tell you what happens if Derek Jeter was a pirate.
- 35:30Speaker 6: Wait, how'd you get back in? Jason supposed to be listening.
- 35:33Speaker 7: Jason Kendall becomes Joe Pisada, Oliver Perez becomes Andy Pettitt.
- 35:38Speaker 7: The pieces around Derek Jeter, Derek Jeter is an elevator.
- 35:41Speaker 7: Everybody around Derek Jeter gets better. Aramas Ramirez today is
- 35:45Speaker 7: a Hall of Famer. If Derek Jeter was a pirate.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Right, terrible person to choose Derek Jeter, of all people.
- 35:55Speaker 5: The worst one.
- 35:56Speaker 3: No, it's no, it is guys, Come on serious. If
- 35:59Speaker 3: Derek Jeter was if he came up in the Pirates
- 36:02Speaker 3: farm system and played his entire career for Pittsburgh, you
- 36:06Speaker 3: think Jeter's good enough where Pittsburgh would have won World Series?
- 36:10Speaker 4: What are you crazy?
- 36:10Speaker 6: Tell I'll tell you another thing. Not only that, but
- 36:14Speaker 6: Jim Leland was the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates in
- 36:17Speaker 6: nineteen ninety six, which was Derek Jeter's rookie year. Okay,
- 36:20Speaker 6: with the Yankees. If Jim Leland had been managing Derek
- 36:24Speaker 6: Jeter as a rookie, he never would have left Pittsburgh,
- 36:26Speaker 6: never would have gotten to Florida, never would have won
- 36:28Speaker 6: a World Series with the Marlins.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Okay, he would have stayed there.
- 36:32Speaker 6: He would have stayed there and managed Derek Jeter for
- 36:34Speaker 6: the entirety of his career.
- 36:35Speaker 7: Brian Giles would be Bernie Williams.
- 36:38Speaker 3: What are you guys taught?
- 36:40Speaker 1: So?
- 36:40Speaker 3: Wait, what do you do with the Pirates? So the
- 36:43Speaker 3: Pirates would be the Yankees. There'd be a monument park
- 36:46Speaker 3: out in Pittsburgh Stadium right now where I'm actually sitting
- 36:49Speaker 3: there flipping through the seasons of Pittsburgh starting in ninety six,
- 36:53Speaker 3: not a five hundred season among them.
- 36:55Speaker 6: And so yeah, Derek Jeter would have turned this into
- 36:57Speaker 6: more than a respectable organization.
- 36:59Speaker 7: Again, remember David Wells. Yeah, pirates had Kip Wells, he
- 37:03Speaker 7: becomes a sad thing, serious.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Couple of Wells cutting it up.
- 37:07Speaker 6: Yeah, and now I'm looking at two thousand and nine
- 37:09Speaker 6: to see if he would have won the World Series
- 37:10Speaker 6: with those Pittsburgh Pirates, Man sixty two and ninety nine
- 37:13Speaker 6: would have had a lot of.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Work to do, right, That's what I'm saying.
- 37:15Speaker 3: One guy does not make up that difference, not in
- 37:17Speaker 3: that sport, not when you're playing nine guys at a time.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Does it work like that?
- 37:21Speaker 6: I mean, come on to suggest that Derek Jeter is
- 37:24Speaker 6: in the right place, right time. Hall of Fame might
- 37:27Speaker 6: be one of your worst takes.
- 37:29Speaker 3: No, it's not, no tate Derek Jeter off the Yankees. Okay,
- 37:32Speaker 3: he goes it's the right place at the right time,
- 37:35Speaker 3: that's all. He was its right place, right tight, that's all.
- 37:37Speaker 6: But I could have picked about a dozen organizations that
- 37:39Speaker 6: would have been the right place for the right time
- 37:41Speaker 6: for that guy. Because that guy is that good.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Right, do you agree Scotty Pippen right place, right time, Yes, yes, right,
- 37:48Speaker 3: Like Scotty Pippen goes to the LA Clippers and he's
- 37:52Speaker 3: not Scotty Pippen.
- 37:52Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying.
- 37:53Speaker 6: He's not in the right place, right place, right time,
- 37:56Speaker 6: hall of Fame because I still think he would have
- 37:58Speaker 6: had a Hall of Fame career. It might have been
- 38:01Speaker 6: fringe as opposed to automatic first ballot Hall of Famer,
- 38:04Speaker 6: but he still would have been a five to six
- 38:06Speaker 6: maybe seven time All Star, great defender, probably would have
- 38:09Speaker 6: had a Hall of Fame career for himself.
- 38:11Speaker 3: So every year would have been similar to the year
- 38:13Speaker 3: he played without Jordan, where they get to the Eastern
- 38:15Speaker 3: Conference semi finals. He was still a very good player.
- 38:17Speaker 3: He was in the every conversation that year. Yeah, for sure,
- 38:20Speaker 3: the MVP. All right, all right, that's fair. But Jeter
- 38:22Speaker 3: to the Royals, I mean, come on, I.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Mean, what do you guys all right?
- 38:26Speaker 6: Nineteen ninety six Royals and see what they were doing?
- 38:29Speaker 3: Do the Pirates playing pinstripes?
- 38:30Speaker 4: Like what are we doing? I don't understand serious.
- 38:36Speaker 7: We would have got pinstrips added to the Pirates uniform
- 38:39Speaker 7: in Pittsburgh and pirates would have stood for pinstripes.
- 38:44Speaker 6: What we're doing right now, Steve is going to break

- 39:18Speaker 3: Jeff Passing is with us. He graduated here from Syracuse.
- 39:23Speaker 3: This is a very nice school. It's a school, Jeff,
- 39:26Speaker 3: that I feel like I don't really belong being in.
- 39:29Speaker 3: And if I had this equipment growing up, you know,
- 39:31Speaker 3: and actually had some training in this, perhaps I would
- 39:34Speaker 3: be better. If I attended the New House School broadcasting,
- 39:37Speaker 3: I'd be pretty good at this. I mean, this place
- 39:38Speaker 3: is amazing.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Jeff.
- 39:42Speaker 5: Well, on one hand, you've made a career out of
- 39:45Speaker 5: defiling things, so this is kind of far for the course.
- 39:51Speaker 5: But beyond that, beyond that, you have contributed in the
- 39:55Speaker 5: neighborhood of three hundred and fifty thousand dollars over the
- 39:58Speaker 5: last four years university. So I think you can do
- 40:02Speaker 5: whatever you want right now. I think you can make
- 40:04Speaker 5: a mockery smash a window, going graffiti all over the place,
- 40:09Speaker 5: you know, the cross out Tariko, crossout costas I am
- 40:13Speaker 5: eagle whatever.
- 40:15Speaker 6: Yes, you've earned it, so thank you.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I appreciate it.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Permission.
- 40:19Speaker 3: At least, yes, listen, I bought my way into the
- 40:21Speaker 3: New House School of Broadcasting through my daughter. But McDonough
- 40:25Speaker 3: was on earlier and he was making the joke congratulations
- 40:28Speaker 3: of getting that bill off of your expen sheet.
- 40:33Speaker 5: I mean, it's listen, I'm starting next year, so I
- 40:37Speaker 5: understand completely. And here's the thing. You had a Division
- 40:41Speaker 5: IE athlete too, So at very least I would hope
- 40:46Speaker 5: that some of that was taking care of My kids
- 40:48Speaker 5: go into D three. So I have the combination of
- 40:53Speaker 5: playing sports but getting no benefit out of it. So yeah,
- 40:57Speaker 5: I'm ninety k in the hole every year for the
- 41:00Speaker 5: four years and not looking forward to it.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Enjoy it, buddy, I love the podcast. I texted you
- 41:06Speaker 3: earlier this week. Sources tell Jeff pass It it's a
- 41:08Speaker 3: great name for your podcast.
- 41:10Speaker 4: Are you enjoying it?
- 41:13Speaker 5: I'm loving it, man, Like it's it's hard doing what
- 41:16Speaker 5: you do. That's that's what I'm figuring out. Like we're
- 41:20Speaker 5: treating this like a weekly television show. And you know,
- 41:26Speaker 5: being as involved as I am with more or less everything,
- 41:31Speaker 5: I did not understand the second full time job I
- 41:35Speaker 5: was going to be taking on. But it's it's, you know,
- 41:40Speaker 5: my my job at ESPN, my main job is often
- 41:45Speaker 5: reacting to, or at least chasing down something that's happening.
- 41:51Speaker 5: It's a it's a passive endeavor doing a show like this.
- 41:56Speaker 5: It's creating something and it's coming up with ideas that
- 41:59Speaker 5: you we're going to be interesting and compelling and seeing
- 42:03Speaker 5: them from start to finish. And that's not something I've
- 42:06Speaker 5: done before. So it's been an absolute blast and I'm
- 42:10Speaker 5: not sleeping at all in eleven every minute of its endeavor.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I knew it was coming, he did.
- 42:18Speaker 3: The filling of time is hard me and Balboni Jones
- 42:20Speaker 3: laugh about this all the time, just how hard it
- 42:22Speaker 3: is to do this. Not that we're patting ourselves on
- 42:24Speaker 3: the back, but it originates our conversation from a story
- 42:29Speaker 3: on Radio Row where Travis Hunter was trying to launch
- 42:31Speaker 3: a podcast during Super Bowl Week on Radio Row and
- 42:35Speaker 3: Baumani walked past him and somehow struck up a conversation
- 42:38Speaker 3: with him, and he said, man, what you do for
- 42:40Speaker 3: a living is really hard, and that guy plays football
- 42:43Speaker 3: for a living.
- 42:44Speaker 5: Jeff, Yeah, that guy plays football and he plays cornerback
- 42:50Speaker 5: and wide receivers, so he plays football at like the
- 42:53Speaker 5: Otani level. Yes, and he's having a tough time. Butmani
- 42:58Speaker 5: Jones is also the person who, among everybody in our industry,
- 43:03Speaker 5: I have great faith could talk uninterrupted and pull off
- 43:07Speaker 5: like a twenty hour filibuster on Capitol Hill if he
- 43:10Speaker 5: needed to. Bo's never had a difficult time filling air,
- 43:14Speaker 5: has he?
- 43:15Speaker 4: No, I've heard him do that. Actually, he's never had trouble.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Now, Taylor, this is interesting, so I am not certain
- 43:24Speaker 3: we've discussed this with you. Taylor is such a big
- 43:28Speaker 3: Yankee fan, and Cam Schlittler is having such a great
- 43:30Speaker 3: year that he has said on record on national radio
- 43:34Speaker 3: Jeff Passion that he would not trade Camp straight up
- 43:37Speaker 3: for Paul Skeins.
- 43:38Speaker 4: How do you feel about that.
- 43:39Speaker 7: Jeff, I said it before the season too.
- 43:42Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I think you were stupid before the season
- 43:46Speaker 5: as well as.
- 43:48Speaker 6: This is why I did that text you.
- 43:54Speaker 5: Here's the thing. You could name just about any other
- 43:57Speaker 5: pitcher and I would actually a group. Cam Schlitzler is awesome,
- 44:03Speaker 5: Paul Skins is just on another level. And with Trek
- 44:06Speaker 5: scoobl out right now, I think Paul Skeins is unequivocally, undoubtedly,
- 44:11Speaker 5: without any competition, the best pitcher in baseball going right now.
- 44:15Speaker 5: But to me, the most interesting part of Cam Schlitzler
- 44:20Speaker 5: speaks to what the New York Yankees have been able
- 44:22Speaker 5: to do. And for a long time, the Yankees had
- 44:25Speaker 5: a difficult time growing pitching internally. You know, they would
- 44:30Speaker 5: have guys who had decent strikeout rates in the minor leagues,
- 44:33Speaker 5: other teams want to trade for him, But once they
- 44:35Speaker 5: got to the big league level, they were just like,
- 44:37Speaker 5: you know, clutch Bit was good, got hurt Will Warren
- 44:41Speaker 5: last year wasn't a whole lot. Gave up that monster
- 44:44Speaker 5: Grand Slam to Vlad Guerrero and the playoffs that knocked
- 44:47Speaker 5: the Yankees out, but a dominant like frontline starter. It's
- 44:52Speaker 5: been a long time since the Yankees did that. Even
- 44:55Speaker 5: Luis Heel, you know, going and winning Rookie of the Year,
- 44:58Speaker 5: couldn't have a rotation and spot this season. So to
- 45:02Speaker 5: see Schlittler go from drafted and throwing eighty eight to
- 45:06Speaker 5: ninety miles per hour to a guy who now sits
- 45:09Speaker 5: ninety seven to ninety nine will hit triple digits regularly,
- 45:14Speaker 5: he's awesome and he's part of the reason that the
- 45:16Speaker 5: Yankees are the overwhelming favorites in the American League right now,
- 45:20Speaker 5: because not only are they doing this with the staff
- 45:22Speaker 5: they've got now, but Carlos Redon's coming back this weekend.
- 45:25Speaker 5: Garrett Cole's not far off. Yankees are going to get better,
- 45:29Speaker 5: and that is a scary thing for the rest of.
- 45:31Speaker 7: The Al Jeff on the topic of Yankee prospects, The
- 45:34Speaker 7: Yankees are calling up Spencer Jones. Yankee fans have heard
- 45:37Speaker 7: a ton about him. They're already comparing him to Aaron Judge.
- 45:40Speaker 7: They're putting the number side by side to what they
- 45:43Speaker 7: did in the minor leagues. What do you think are
- 45:45Speaker 7: fair expectations for Jones as he makes his MLB debut.
- 45:51Speaker 5: Spencer Jones is going to hit home runs, I think
- 45:53Speaker 5: that much. We know he is six foot seven and
- 45:56Speaker 5: two hundred and forty pounds in an absolute unit and
- 45:59Speaker 5: has a beautiful, let tammant swing. That being said, the
- 46:02Speaker 5: reason that Aaron Judge has managed to become the best
- 46:06Speaker 5: hitter in Major League Baseball over the past few seasons
- 46:10Speaker 5: is because he has cut down on the swing and
- 46:13Speaker 5: miss and he still strikes out a fair bit. But
- 46:15Speaker 5: Spencer Jones's strikeouts have been off the charts bad, and
- 46:19Speaker 5: the fact that he's still managed to be as productive
- 46:22Speaker 5: as he has in the minor league speaks to those
- 46:25Speaker 5: other skills. So if he can evolve to maybe swing
- 46:29Speaker 5: and miss a little bit less, even if he cut
- 46:31Speaker 5: it down by five percent, that takes him from big
- 46:36Speaker 5: leaguer to all SAR. And if his play discipline can
- 46:39Speaker 5: get even better than that, you know it cuts down
- 46:41Speaker 5: his strikeout rate by ten percent. Let's say we're talking
- 46:45Speaker 5: about a perennial MVP candidate. That's how good the power is.
- 46:49Speaker 5: But it's difficult to especially when you're in the big
- 46:52Speaker 5: leagues facing better stuff than you ever have before to
- 46:55Speaker 5: limit the strikeouts, like he's going to need to to
- 46:58Speaker 5: reach that talent that he has.
- 47:00Speaker 6: Jeff, one of my favorite adjustments to baseball over the
- 47:03Speaker 6: last several years is the elaborate dugout celebration for home runs.
- 47:08Speaker 6: And I want to ask you your favorite, because I
- 47:11Speaker 6: came across one this week of the Colorado Rockies when
- 47:14Speaker 6: they throw on that purple faux fur coat, which is
- 47:17Speaker 6: absolutely beautiful. I don't care how fake it is. That's
- 47:20Speaker 6: my favorite by far. I don't know if you have
- 47:22Speaker 6: a favorite.
- 47:24Speaker 5: I like the Blue Jays home run jacket only because
- 47:28Speaker 5: I feel like it speaks to the team and its
- 47:32Speaker 5: character and who it is more than anything. They have
- 47:35Speaker 5: the flags of all the countries that the players play
- 47:38Speaker 5: for on it. I like the Mariners tried it too,
- 47:42Speaker 5: just because it looks kind of pressbl but I'm I'm
- 47:46Speaker 5: all for dugout celebrations of any variety. Like baseball is
- 47:51Speaker 5: a sport that for so long was like the dry
- 47:55Speaker 5: chicken breast of the sports. It was unappealing and unseasoned
- 48:03Speaker 5: and just not fun at all. And it's like we
- 48:06Speaker 5: finally got some going on here. We've got some we
- 48:10Speaker 5: got some seasoning, we got some flavor. We baseball's needed
- 48:14Speaker 5: it for a long time. And hey, if that is,
- 48:17Speaker 5: you know, pushing a cart through the dugout, wearing a
- 48:20Speaker 5: helmet in the dugout, a faux purple coat, or any
- 48:25Speaker 5: of the other celebrations, I'm here for it.
- 48:29Speaker 8: Jeff Stu was very quick to throw out Sorry, Stu
- 48:35Speaker 8: was very quick to throw out Taylor's terrible trade idea.
- 48:39Speaker 8: So let me ask you one of Stu's terrible ideas.
- 48:42Speaker 8: If Derek Jeter had come up with the Pirates, He's
- 48:45Speaker 8: not He's not Derek Jeter. As Stu would.
- 48:49Speaker 3: Say, yes, thank you, get at it.
- 48:55Speaker 6: He went as far as saying that Derek Jeter is
- 48:58Speaker 6: in the right place, right time, Hall of Fame, which
- 49:00Speaker 6: I think is a bit much.
- 49:03Speaker 5: I agree that's a bit much. I just don't think
- 49:06Speaker 5: he's Derek Jeter. I think he's more like Bobby Witt,
- 49:08Speaker 5: which is that you are not appreciated nearly as much
- 49:13Speaker 5: when you're not in one of those huge markets. I
- 49:16Speaker 5: think that's a reasonable thing. And I don't know that
- 49:20Speaker 5: Derek Jeter is going to be less of a player,
- 49:23Speaker 5: But I'll say this I think Derek Jeter is going
- 49:25Speaker 5: to get fewer opportunities in that situation to do the
- 49:29Speaker 5: sorts of historic things that we remember him for. And
- 49:32Speaker 5: so I do think time and place matter with guys,
- 49:36Speaker 5: and I think ignoring the idea that one franchise is
- 49:40Speaker 5: going to be a more ideal fit. And part of
- 49:43Speaker 5: what made Derek Jeter as great as he was, guys,
- 49:46Speaker 5: was the fact that he could survive the snake pit
- 49:50Speaker 5: that can be New York sports and emerge not just
- 49:54Speaker 5: you know, with his full health and with his full production,
- 49:58Speaker 5: but having better benefited from it and having been a
- 50:01Speaker 5: part of it. I think that you put Derek Jeter
- 50:05Speaker 5: into Pittsburgh and the full Derek jeterness of him just
- 50:09Speaker 5: never is is brought to the forefront. He's still he's
- 50:14Speaker 5: still a great player, Don't get me wrong, He's great
- 50:16Speaker 5: wherever he is. But but the level that he's at
- 50:19Speaker 5: I think was in I'm not going to say in
- 50:22Speaker 5: large part, but certainly in part because he was a Yankee.
- 50:24Speaker 5: And I think he would probably say that too.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Yep, you see what's happening here, guys, us new House guys.
- 50:30Speaker 3: We stick together, we do. That's that's a couple of
- 50:34Speaker 3: new house guys cutting it up.
- 50:36Speaker 6: I mean, that's where you can still go to school there. Right,
- 50:38Speaker 6: there's no like age limit.
- 50:42Speaker 4: To go back. He's right, Taylor, go ahead, and Taylor,
- 50:48Speaker 4: do you.
- 50:48Speaker 5: Think they would accept him? What was your what was
- 50:50Speaker 5: your s A t too?
- 50:53Speaker 4: What?
- 50:53Speaker 6: What's an s A T his saturdays?
- 51:01Speaker 4: The score like a you know, like a ninety two
- 51:03Speaker 4: eighteen oals?
- 51:05Speaker 5: All right, sounds it sounds very accurate.
- 51:08Speaker 6: I have a soft spot.
- 51:09Speaker 7: I have a soft spot in my heart for the
- 51:10Speaker 7: Chicago Cubs team because if you go to summer in
- 51:13Speaker 7: Wrigley Field, it's unbelievable. Is this Cubs team built to
- 51:18Speaker 7: win in the postseason? Because I know they're off to
- 51:20Speaker 7: a great start, but when you look at this team,
- 51:23Speaker 7: it doesn't really feel like they have the pitching, although
- 51:25Speaker 7: they're great on defense almost across the board, and they
- 51:29Speaker 7: do have players that could put the ball.
- 51:30Speaker 6: I'm glad you have to preface that with them having
- 51:32Speaker 6: a soft spot in your heart.
- 51:33Speaker 7: Because I want the Cubs success.
- 51:36Speaker 4: It was necessary.
- 51:37Speaker 5: Yes, it's a perfectly reasonable question because I think they
- 51:41Speaker 5: are an excellent regular season team. They are one through
- 51:45Speaker 5: nine in that lineup. It reminds me somewhat of the
- 51:49Speaker 5: Blue Jays last year, where they have guys who have
- 51:52Speaker 5: slug but they also can put the ball in play,
- 51:56Speaker 5: and they are deep, and it's tough to pitch that lineup.
- 51:59Speaker 5: You know, when when peek Row Armstrong, who hit thirty
- 52:02Speaker 5: home runs last year is hittingn ethan, your lineup like,
- 52:05Speaker 5: you know, you run deep. And the defense, I do
- 52:08Speaker 5: not want to undersell that one bit. It's the best
- 52:10Speaker 5: defense in baseball. They are so solid everywhere across the diamond,
- 52:15Speaker 5: but especially up the middle with Pca and center field,
- 52:18Speaker 5: Dansby Swanson at short, Nico Horner at second. Like it's
- 52:22Speaker 5: a really good team. But the pitching issues warranted, fair understandable.
- 52:27Speaker 5: And that's what concerns me about the Cubs, because let's
- 52:30Speaker 5: think about who they're going to have to go up
- 52:32Speaker 5: against in the postseason. If it's the Dodgers, you've got
- 52:36Speaker 5: Yamamoto and Otani and Snell and Glass now not fun
- 52:42Speaker 5: to face. And frankly, the number one pitcher for the Cubs,
- 52:46Speaker 5: whether it's Matt Boyd coming back from knee surgery or
- 52:49Speaker 5: Showdy Monaga, I don't even know. If they make the
- 52:52Speaker 5: top four of the Dodgers and I'm not sure that
- 52:56Speaker 5: the Cubs bullpen at this point, frankly, is deep enough,
- 52:59Speaker 5: because you can navigate a postseason without a whole lot
- 53:03Speaker 5: of starting pitching. We've seen the Houston Astros do that before,
- 53:07Speaker 5: we saw the Dodgers do that a couple of years ago.
- 53:10Speaker 5: You don't need like all of this frontline pitching to
- 53:12Speaker 5: find success, but if you don't have that, you better
- 53:16Speaker 5: have a damn good bullpen. And the Cubs bullpen at
- 53:18Speaker 5: this point it's it's fine, is it good? I wouldn't
- 53:22Speaker 5: put it up there yet.
- 53:24Speaker 4: Jeff, I failed.
- 53:25Speaker 6: I'm sorry good.
- 53:26Speaker 3: I was gonna say I failed us here because we
- 53:28Speaker 3: were talking about skeens for Cam straight up, and you
- 53:32Speaker 3: know Collin's audience. They miss Colin today, and so we
- 53:35Speaker 3: have Collins thoughts. Ai Collins thoughts on skeens for Schlitzler,
- 53:40Speaker 3: straight up, go ahead, Ai Colin.
- 53:42Speaker 1: A one for one swap makes no sense for the
- 53:44Speaker 1: Yankees because Cam Splitzler is already pitching like a frontline
- 53:47Speaker 1: ace five and one a run average, fifty three strikeouts
- 53:52Speaker 1: and a zero eighty seven whip and you're not paying
- 53:55Speaker 1: the new toy tax to get it. Paul Skeens is
- 53:58Speaker 1: a monster reigning National League young and he's dealing again
- 54:01Speaker 1: two thirty six earned run average, forty six strikeouts.
- 54:05Speaker 7: In forty two innings.
- 54:06Speaker 1: But if your guy is already in that neighborhood, you
- 54:08Speaker 1: keep the extra year of control and the organizational stability. Also,
- 54:13Speaker 1: trading your own ace in the making for another ace
- 54:15Speaker 1: doesn't fix the stuff that usually breaks October teams, defense,
- 54:19Speaker 1: situational hitting, bullpen volatility. So yes, Skeens is the headline,
- 54:24Speaker 1: but Schlittler is the smart money.
- 54:29Speaker 4: It doesn't even know what to do with that.
- 54:34Speaker 6: Okay, I can hear none of it. Didn't hear any
- 54:36Speaker 6: none of it?
- 54:37Speaker 4: Oh he couldn't hear it.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Oh you couldn't hear Ai college no idea.
- 54:41Speaker 6: I mean, why did anyone tell me? So you guys
- 54:44Speaker 6: act like fool Yeah, okay, you should just know that
- 54:47Speaker 6: Ailin entirely agreed with Taylor.
- 54:50Speaker 4: So listen. It's listen.
- 54:52Speaker 3: It's one thing for CC Sabathia, who actually came on
- 54:55Speaker 3: our show and agreed with Taylor. Okay, he got caught
- 54:59Speaker 3: up in the moment. He's he Yankee guy.
- 55:00Speaker 4: You want to.
- 55:01Speaker 3: Upset camp, all right, But Ai Colin also just disagreed
- 55:05Speaker 3: with me and you two new house guys, and agree
- 55:07Speaker 3: with Taylor.
- 55:08Speaker 4: How about that? Huh?
- 55:11Speaker 5: Honestly, it makes me feel good. I don't want to
- 55:13Speaker 5: do do you know how often AI is wrong? Like
- 55:18Speaker 5: all of us have used AI in some form or fashion,
- 55:21Speaker 5: and do we ever step away from it thinking, you know,
- 55:24Speaker 5: that was a pleasant experience. I really feel like AI
- 55:28Speaker 5: answered my question. No, they answer a question in a
- 55:33Speaker 5: terrifyingly like pleasant manner. They say, oh, that's a good
- 55:39Speaker 5: you know, that's a great question. That's a good premise
- 55:41Speaker 5: that you have. No, they get things wrong all the time.
- 55:45Speaker 5: If we are leaning on AI for baseball analysis, then
- 55:49Speaker 5: we have lost the plot.
- 55:50Speaker 6: Gentlemen, are you saying AI likes the gaslight people because
- 55:53Speaker 6: I don't believe that?
- 55:56Speaker 5: No, of course not. Of course, why would it ever
- 55:58Speaker 5: do that?
- 55:59Speaker 3: Come on, I'm with Passing on this. But again, we
- 56:02Speaker 3: went to the same school, so I mean I have
- 56:05Speaker 3: his back, he has probably back. I am so glad
- 56:07Speaker 3: that someone finally alerted me because we were about to
- 56:10Speaker 3: play a game which requires you hearing imaging, and I
- 56:13Speaker 3: am so thrilled that someone finally figured out that Passing
- 56:17Speaker 3: can't hear any sound that's being fired off from Sherman
- 56:20Speaker 3: Oaks or Miami.
- 56:21Speaker 4: How about that?
- 56:22Speaker 6: Let me ask you a quard.
- 56:24Speaker 5: I'll tell you this, I heard the back end of it.
- 56:26Speaker 5: So if we want to try it one more time,
- 56:28Speaker 5: by all means, I'd love to have a conversation with Ai.
- 56:31Speaker 5: This isot right. Well, hold on, I thought my day
- 56:33Speaker 5: was going.
- 56:33Speaker 3: To get Let's ask Let's see if you could hear
- 56:35Speaker 3: this Ai Collins thoughts on whether or not the Dodgers,
- 56:39Speaker 3: the LA Dodgers, they you know, they have a dynasty
- 56:43Speaker 3: going on, and there I have questioned whether or not
- 56:46Speaker 3: they're good for baseball.
- 56:47Speaker 4: Let's see if Ai Colin agrees with me.
- 56:51Speaker 1: No, the Los Angeles Dodgers aren't bad for baseball.
- 56:54Speaker 7: They're gasoline on the fire.
- 56:56Speaker 1: When you've got a monster brand that travels well and
- 56:58Speaker 1: everybody wants to beat, it gives the sport a villain,
- 57:01Speaker 1: a measuring stick, and a reason to watch on a
- 57:03Speaker 1: random Tuesday night. What's bad for baseball is the deadweight
- 57:06Speaker 1: franchises that don't spend, don't develop, and don't try. Those
- 57:10Speaker 1: teams drain the energy out of the whole league. So
- 57:14Speaker 1: let the Dodgers be great and let everybody else chase them.
- 57:19Speaker 4: Did you hear it?
- 57:21Speaker 5: I did? I did hear that. I didn't realize that
- 57:24Speaker 5: that that AI column was part of the Democratic Socialists
- 57:27Speaker 5: of America.
- 57:28Speaker 6: Wow, that was that was quite a.
- 57:31Speaker 5: Thing right there. I mean, it's like, here's the thing
- 57:37Speaker 5: you're going to see this over the next year, is
- 57:39Speaker 5: the labor negotiation plays out. Collective Bargaining Agreement of December first,
- 57:44Speaker 5: there's almost certainly going to be a lockout. And there
- 57:49Speaker 5: are very pro labor sects of the fan base that
- 57:53Speaker 5: essentially made the argument that Ai Colin made right there,
- 57:56Speaker 5: and there's some validity to it. Actually, I I think
- 58:00Speaker 5: the Dodgers are good in the same way that the
- 58:02Speaker 5: Yankees were good back in the nineteen nineties. It is
- 58:06Speaker 5: a measuring stick. It's something that every other team can
- 58:10Speaker 5: aspire to beat, and when somebody does beat them, it's
- 58:13Speaker 5: a big deal. So yeah, as long as the Dodgers
- 58:17Speaker 5: are playing within the rules, which they are, I feel
- 58:20Speaker 5: like what they're doing actually does, as AI Colin said,
- 58:23Speaker 5: expose those teams that are.
- 58:25Speaker 6: I just want to say this out loud, because I
- 58:27Speaker 6: know everything is listening. When we inevitably go to war
- 58:29Speaker 6: with our artificial intelligence. I am not on Jeff Passon's
- 58:33Speaker 6: side on this. I am Jeff is on his own
- 58:35Speaker 6: on this one.
- 58:37Speaker 4: I got your back.
- 58:38Speaker 6: I'm fine.
- 58:39Speaker 5: It's like, I will admit I'm polite to AI.
- 58:42Speaker 6: When I talk to it, I ask please.
- 58:46Speaker 5: I don't know how I feel about that, but it's
- 58:49Speaker 5: just like, there's this entity that's trying to help me,
- 58:52Speaker 5: and I don't want to be a turd toward it,
- 58:55Speaker 5: even though I know there's no humanity there. You're just
- 58:58Speaker 5: a compendium of things that all of us have written
- 59:02Speaker 5: throughout history and somehow process it into knowledge. This like
- 59:07Speaker 5: I feel like, you know, I'm like the anti Carol Stirca.
- 59:13Speaker 5: I would much rather be like Carol and and look
- 59:16Speaker 5: at the machine as if it's a force of evil.
- 59:20Speaker 5: But it's just so helpful. Sometimes when my partner does
- 59:23Speaker 5: get things wrong, I'm still pleasant to it.
- 59:26Speaker 6: When my partner curses at Alexa, I get so cringey.
- 59:29Speaker 6: I'm like, oh no, why are you talking to her
- 59:31Speaker 6: like that?
- 59:34Speaker 8: Busy is selling out the human race hard in the
- 59:37Speaker 8: in the Future Wars, I.
- 59:41Speaker 3: Said, Jeff, We're we're glad you you could hear that
- 59:44Speaker 3: AI Colin, and so we hope that means you can
- 59:47Speaker 3: hear this. We're gonna play a game with you and
- 59:48Speaker 3: get you out here in just a second. It's a
- 59:50Speaker 3: game we like to call one table.
- 59:52Speaker 4: Sit.
- 59:53Speaker 2: Who's getting it and who's getting left outside? Greatness gets seated,
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: everyone else waits.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: This is one table, So, Jeff, there's one table at
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: the hottest restaurant in Atlanta. Greg Maddox walks in, Tom
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: Glavin walks in, and John Smoltz walks in. Who gets
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: the table?
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: That's a good question, excellent Who gets it or who
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: should get it? Who gets who gets the You're running
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: that restaurant, and those three walk in at the exact
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: same time you have one table, they're with their families.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Who gets the table?
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: Greg Maddox all day?
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Really wow?
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: Yeah, best best picture of the bunch. But beyond that,
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: Greg Maddox was the king of like clubhouse poop jokes,
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: and that's the kind of guy who I want dining
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: at my restaurant.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: He was a really low talker. He used to really
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: tick me off. And I was in the back of
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: the crowd and he was in there tongue and his
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: answers like this. I think he did that on purpose.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: He did and Also, you should have you should have
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: been there earlier. Like, he'll go your way to the front.
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: You're this guy.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: This is how he became a holiday baseball writer.
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: Yes, you could kick the ass of ninety nine percent
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: of reporters. I imagine. I've seen you shirtless. It's majestic,
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: and like, why are you not using that to your advantage?
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: You're right, I should just take off my shirt. They'll
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: all just make room.
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: No, he doesn't seabel part.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: No, this is he's the kind of guy that will
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: drive you crazy, Jeff, because you're right. When he takes
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: his shirt off, he does look majestic. He's in better
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: shape than any of us will ever be. And is
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: he thinks he doesn't look good. He thinks he's in
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: bad shape.
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: No, that's a whole different thing. Also, I was twenty two,
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: so I was noth.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: Yeah, but no one likes that guy who's in better
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: shape than we.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Are and is constantly getting upset and telling everyone, Hey,
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: I'm not in good shape. Cincinnati. There's a restaurant, it's Cincinnati, Okay,
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Joey Vado walks in Okay, the Vados. I've tried to
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: think of another Cincinnati rad boy because if I say
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: the Roses, You're gonna give the table to the Roses.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: But people don't realize just how popular Joey Vodo is
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: in Cincinnati. So I'm gonna go Vados and the Roses.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Who gets the table? Pete Rose? Good player, not.
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: A good dude.
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: I was trying to sway him.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: Well, Pete Rose isn't alive.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: I know, I mean he doesn't.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Matter.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: I mean just you know, you know Pete Rose and
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: his prime boto is prime.
- 1:02:35Speaker 7: Brought into the restaurant.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: Pete Rose.
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: He would still get the table.
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: Dead. Pete Rose still gets the table.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Okay, Pete Rose, Mike, all right, go ahead?
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: Does he have one?
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: No?
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Oh, go ahead?
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: This table is in Los Angeles, Jeff, Oh boy, Sandy
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: Kofax walks in, and sho he Otani walks in. Who
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: gets the table?
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: Oh my, I'm traveling.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Oh that's a really good one.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: I think I think they give it. I think they
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: give it to Otani?
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: What what I do?
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: He just got there?
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: I think the it's la it's la. Once you're like once,
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: you're not a thing anymore. I know, Sandy Kofax will
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: always be a thing, But I don't think that at restaurants.
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: Is this my restaurant?
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Yes you decide yes, No, no, No, it's my restaurant.
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: It's Sandy Kofax. You're asking a Jewish guy if.
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: He's gonna see Sandy anyone.
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: I would see Sandy Kofax over God himself.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: Wait, so, if it's your restaurant, are you allowing the
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: dead Pete Rose to sit in't it?
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: I'm going bato there.
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: I don't think God was that good at baseball all right, to.
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: Have no shirt, no shoes, no breathing, no service, like
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: we got to have that up the front.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: I'm going back to New York for a second. Aaron Judge,
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Derek Jeter, one table.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: Derek Jeter always wow, Derek Jeter has a Pittsburgh pirate.
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: Probably doesn't get.
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: The I think it would be Judge. I think it
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: would be Judge at that point, because Derek Jeter is
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: not Derek Jeter if he's a Pittsburgh pirate. Yeah, you're right,
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: just like that, ran out of time.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Again, Dead Pete Rose, Jeff pass it.
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: Thank you for the time, Get out of the here.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: Check out his new podcast wherever you get your podcast.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: He's the best to doing it right now. We appreciate it, Buddy,
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: Thank you,
