Matt Harrison: Hey, everyone, and welcome back to the Ducks Unlimited podcast. I'm your host, Matt Harrison, and today, we have with us some people that need no introduction, mister Kyle and Cam from Expanded Perspectives. And also holding down the inn down here, mister Clay Baird. Fellas, it is so good to have y'all back. Last time we were together, the episode went insanely viral, got tens of millions of views.
• 2:04
So we are back today to tell some more stories, but fellas, how we doing?
• 2:08
Cam: It that last episode, really, that was something else.
• 2:11
  Matt Harrison: It was crazy.
• 2:11
Cam: Yeah. That went crazy. Yeah. We come up for the expo. It was amazing.
• 2:15
Yep. Yep. That expo was something else. Do you expo? It was so great.
• 2:20
Yeah. And we gathered stories from there. And then after putting this out and all y'all listening and everybody sending them in, we have some, I guess you could say, extremely unsettling outdoor adventure stories to discuss with y'all today. Oh, boy. Yeah.
• 2:36
Yeah. It if you like the weird, the strange, unusual boy, look. Y'all aren't alone. We came in with all the stories, and then everybody else is like, hey. Guess what?
• 2:43
I had something like that happen to me too. And then so we're off to the races with that whole thing. So, yeah, thanks for having us back up. This is great, and thanks for all y'all for participating, sending all this stuff in. So, yeah, just so you know, you're not alone with all the weirdness that you got going on.
• 2:57
Kyle: Yeah. And if they got more stories, what do they need to send them?
• 2:59
Clay Baird: You can send them to ducks or dupodcast@ducks.org. And if you want to record them, you can record them online at ducks.org/podcast.
• 3:09
Matt Harrison: So what's been awesome to see too is, you know, the first time we did this, we didn't have a ton of stories. And each time we do it, it's been crazy to see the amount of people that have said, hey. I've got a similar story or another story that maybe, you know, I can share with y'all. So we've had a bunch of submissions. We've got a bunch of stories to tell today.
• 3:28
Super excited about this, so better tighten your boots because it's about to be a good good run.
• 3:34
Kyle: Yeah. It's crazy. I mean, we didn't even know the first time we sat down in here that this would that this would work, and it turns out that it's not only working, it's snowballing. Yeah. We're getting more like, last time we asked for stories, and we got a few, and we asked for more this time, and we got even more, and it's just gonna keep growing.
• 3:48
So let's get into them. Alright.
• 3:49
  Matt Harrison: Let's do it.
• 3:50
Kyle: This first one comes from somebody named nine zero three Customs, and it says, I'm near Tyler, Texas in the woods, and in the late nineteen eighties, my pop and I were hunting in the woods. We were varmint calling late at night, and suddenly over the fence came this guy who looked like the person you were describing in your video. He was like a werewolf looking thing, like the native Americans call a skin walker. My dad shot at it numerous times and it went down into the creek and just stayed there. We heard it rumbling and we kept watching, but it never came out.
• 4:21
So I ran to the barn and called sheriff Schaefer, who lived not far from us, and he came down there. And we all went into the woods for an hour and we kept hearing something down in that creek bottom. My dad figured that he had shot it and hit it and it was probably laying down there just dying. So the next day, we go down there and there's all sorts of these little structures built with rocks, like small tiny towers. Something had stacked them and built them up.
• 4:46
Each was about a foot tall. Now we'd heard stories from other old timers around this area of a creature that nobody would describe accurately because nobody had really seen it much. They said that it smells like death, and it looks like a naked man. It runs on all fours, and he lives with wolves. I think that we overcame that thing that night in the woods.
• 5:08
I don't know if it still exists, but people would make YouTube of the YouTube videos about it if it was actually caught on footage. That's why that's my story. So him and his father were out hunting, varmint calling. They saw this strange looking man, werewolf looking thing, half beast, half man crawling around. They shot at it numerous times.
• 5:29
It ran off in the creek. They went and got the sheriff. They looked around. I don't know what that was. That sounds scary.
• 5:35
Cam: What's up with the structures?
• 5:36
Matt Harrison: That's what I was about to say. That's what's gotten my attention.
• 5:39
Cam: They're not there, but the structures are there. The first thing I thought of is I have a buddy of mine who's a fishing guide. Used to guide I've talked about him before.
• 5:45
  Kyle: He used
• 5:45
Cam: to guide in Alaska. Mhmm. And they talk about seeing those in remote parts along the banks of rivers, small little structures like that.
• 5:52
Matt Harrison: You've talked about that before on the show.
• 5:54
Kyle: What is that? Fae? Yeah.
• 5:56
Cam: Well Yeah. You're telling me the Wendigo died in a Fae City? That's bad luck.
• 6:01
Clay Baird: This is like in that, category of wild man slash werewolf. You don't know where you have where you to place it quite, but it's in that category.
• 6:08
Kyle: Yeah. Well, what's what's odd too is, like, we have a place that we hunt in North Central Texas that is private land, and they found towers of stacked stacked rocks up there.
• 6:19
Cam: Yeah. When they first bought it, found them in the middle of the road. Like, they
• 6:22
Kyle: bought like, nobody's been on this place. Dirt road. Somebody built it up there. It's private land. So what what did that?
• 6:28
Clay Baird: It ain't an animal. And and
• 6:30
Cam: what is it? Oh, you need thumbs for that. Yeah.
• 6:32
Kyle: And is that like a meal raccoon? Yeah.
• 6:34
Cam: Yeah. It's really hard to do.
• 6:37
Kyle: Is that a warning to stay away? Like, what is it? Yeah. Is it just marking its territory saying, like, look. I'm here.
• 6:43
Yeah. Is it asking for something? Hey. Could you drop off some snacks here? Or is it what
• 6:47
  Cam: is Is it bored?
• 6:48
Kyle: Or or is it just right?
• 6:49
Cam: Is that just what it does? Yeah. It's very hard. It's just how it's at and what it does. I mean, come on, man.
• 6:54
A skinwalker's gotta have a hobby too, not just scaring people. Yeah. I mean, it's there's got to be more to it than that. But, I mean, all jokes aside, as a if you're in the woods, you gotta put yourself in imagine being a young person. You're in the woods with your your father.
• 7:08
Right? You're there, the whole thing, and then this goes down. You gotta think back to if you've never seen it happen before, when you're a young person and you finally see your father or your mother or your parent panic Mhmm. When you've never seen that, and that's been that's your rock solid person, and then that person cracks, that facade breaks, instantly, that panic sets in on you. You can't help it.
• 7:31
That's the over and then you go get the sheriff. Sheriff. Shake it. And then the sheriff comes back. Right?
• 7:35
  Kyle: Right. Nothing. Like,
• 7:36
Cam: they look and look and look, and the sheriff's rattled, and everybody's like, I don't know what's going on. Only to come back and find no blood, nothing, and then you get left with more questions when you find those things. That's kind of the key to all of these stories that we've get sent covered. It's like, you'll have these experiences. You'll have all this stuff, but there's still no answers.
• 7:55
Matt Harrison: There's so many questions. More questions.
• 7:58
Cam: Yeah. It leaves way more questions. I've got one that I've gotta share. This this one, man, this goes along the lines of one of those that I always think about. We talked about the thermal stories.
• 8:09
Mhmm. Right? Mhmm. And we've talked about people seeing these crazy thermal things calling out to them, whatever it is, be it skinwalkers, whatever you wanna call these things, crawlers. It doesn't matter.
• 8:20
Yeah. These like, they're pale crawlers.
• 8:22
  Clay Baird: Crawlers, rakes.
• 8:23
Kyle: Rakes. That's what they they call me different names.
• 8:26
Cam: Crazy names. Giandre Becker. I'm gonna read this. It says, I remember one day about a year and a half, two years ago after graduating tank gunner school in South Africa. Mhmm.
• 8:40
I was the gunner of a TTD medium MBT. I have no idea what that was, y'all.
• 8:48
Matt Harrison: Sounds sounds sounds sounds
• 8:50
  Cam: like that.
• 8:50
  Clay Baird: What he's doing.
• 8:51
Cam: It sounds like this dude knows what's up. Not me. All I know is you point that big barrel towards something you wanna tear up. That's all I know. Goes on to say it was about 02:00 in the morning one morning in pitch black, and the only thing that we could use to see was night vision systems and the thermal systems.
• 9:08
So we were out on about a three hour drive away from Pretoria, and the driver of the tank decides to climb out and use a little bathroom break. Right? We're in the middle of nowhere. Yeah. Nothing's going on.
• 9:20
Pull over the truck. I gotta go. Pull over, climb out. Of course, that's but now that would be a chore. Right?
• 9:26
You climb out. It's like, no. I gotta go. Don't be in any hurry. Get out of the tank.
• 9:30
So he climbs out of the tank. He goes about 50 or 75 yards off into a tree line, steps away just so he can use the bathroom. Right? They're all just hanging out, the other guys in the tank. All of a sudden, they said they start hearing screaming.
• 9:44
The driver himself starts screaming. They can't see. Oh, boy. Here, Jondre stands up, throws his thermals on, starts looking. All he can say he can see is him running.
• 9:53
He's screaming and running back towards him. So he says, I fire a warning burst of twelve seven from the roof mounted m two fifty into the tree line. That's a good warning. Yeah. Into the tree line.
• 10:06
He said the the driver runs, runs, runs, gets to the tank. When he gets to the tank, he turns to the tree line, and he said, I give a little burst into the tree line at this point. He said, I start looking after the burst, and a tall skinny figure comes out. He's bent over and it starts crying for help. But he says, I'm looking at this thing and it's not a person as I'm watching this.
• 10:28
Right? So he said, well, so I decide I'm gonna fire a short burst next to it. So he lets loose one. The thing doesn't react, turns its head towards him, and then here it comes, full speed running right at him. What does that say?
• 10:43
Now look, I'm not really keen on what an m two fifty is, but I would dare say if you fired it beside me, I'm not gonna run towards that. I don't know. Call me crazy. Maybe I'm not a cryptid. Right?
• 10:55
So this thing starts booking it towards there. So at this moment, after he's fired it all off, the commander's like, I want you to fire another one, but this time I want you to fire the 120 millimeter gun at it. So he touches off the big round at it, sizzles past there, he says it lands next to it at this point and blows the creature in half. Boom. Separates the top from the bottom.
• 11:18
He says, all that settles and here it comes again crawling. At this point, it is crawling towards them and shrieking. He said, this thing is making a sound that I've never heard before and never wanna hear again. It is an unnerving shrieking sound. He said, it is burned into me for the rest of my life.
• 11:37
He fires a second shot and hits it direct and he said, I just turned it to mist at this point. He said, we stay in the area until it becomes daylight. We don't even move. Everybody locks down. They're watching all around them.
• 11:52
They're like, what's going on? At daylight, Jandre said, he gets out, they go get something out of the tank and go and collect samples of what's left of that thing, bring it back, turn it in to get tested. They found out later, according to him, that they sent it off that they can't find it to match any known blood sample of anything that they know of. And how they figured, I don't know, but they said the blood appears to be over 200 years old. So what?
• 12:19
  So what is that? I don't know how you do it. I'm I don't know. I'm not a what what what's a a blood guy? I'm not a phlebotomist.
• 12:26
That's who draws it. Hematologist. What is that? I I don't know what but I don't know how you would age blood, but 200 year old blood. So it's apparently a physical creature, whatever this was, or at least at the point this thing was physical, and it has some age on it.
• 12:42
Well, the first thing that comes to mind when I start thinking of that is genies and gin
• 12:46
  Kyle: Mhmm.
• 12:46
Cam: And just complete evilness in that whole deal. And this was over in, of course, South Africa somewhere.
• 12:52
Kyle: Yeah. And I never really heard anything from South Africa before. No.
• 12:55
  Cam: Not like that.
• 12:55
  Clay Baird: Not like a
• 12:56
Cam: nothing like a crawler like that.
• 12:58
Clay Baird: Yeah. If you would have said, you know, maybe Middle East or something Yeah. You know, you think of the giants giant Akandahar Yep. Yep. Like that.
• 13:05
But, I mean, the good news is if it bleeds, can kill it.
• 13:07
Cam: Yeah. Well, apparently, the big round does the one twenty takes And
• 13:11
  Kyle: said it
• 13:11
Clay Baird: was screaming at first?
• 13:12
Cam: So as he hit it this first the course, he fires at it. It comes running, takes it, turns the big gun on it, hits it, blows it in half.
• 13:19
Kyle: But it was screaming for help before that.
• 13:20
Cam: It was well, yeah. But it was the way he tells it is it's making the sounds like the other thermal stories. Yeah. Yeah. Is it's calling to It's trying to bring them in.
• 13:30
Kyle: So I guess the guy went to use the bathroom, and then it
• 13:32
Cam: It was there. He walked up on it. Now, man, I don't know that you talk about you would go to the bathroom if you walked up on a crawler whether you needed to go or not. You're going.
• 13:41
  Kyle: It's part
• 13:42
Matt Harrison: of the game. What better thing to have with you though than a tank?
• 13:44
Cam: That's what I'm screaming. A whole group of My
• 13:46
Matt Harrison: luck be I'd be like a little three wheeler or something. I'd be on my ebike. Yeah.
• 13:50
Cam: On my ebike. Yeah. And it
• 13:52
Kyle: why is it not wrong? Here we go. To charge it.
• 13:56
Matt Harrison: They need to do it during a tank.
• 13:58
Cam: Yeah. Right. Here, I got a recurve and a pocket knife and an ebike. Here comes the crawler. I'm like, well, I'm dead.
• 14:04
I won't be back next episode. The crawler got me.
• 14:06
Clay Baird: Yeah. That sent a chill down my spine, that
• 14:08
Cam: one. Man. That's The idea that it doesn't quit. Yeah. That's the part of the story that got me.
• 14:13
Yeah. But When he fired at it, it ran to him.
• 14:15
Matt Harrison: I get it, maybe
• 14:16
  Kyle: it was scared. Right?
• 14:16
Cam: And it's in the dark. You could see an animal freaking out like that.
• 14:20
Matt Harrison: But when you at you after that.
• 14:22
Cam: Crawling and shrieking and screaming. I'm out. Yeah. I bet the second shot was a lot easier to take with the big cannon. Right?
• 14:28
You're like, not today, partner. I'm just gonna go ahead and let you have that one. Take that with you.
• 14:32
Kyle: At least you could bat in the hatches and just hide in there. You think? Else. You know what I'm saying?
• 14:36
Cam: You think? What if it can get in?
• 14:37
  Kyle: I'd be I don't know.
• 14:39
Cam: That Reaches in with that long arm and
• 14:41
Matt Harrison: those I'd be popping a wheelie on that tank
• 14:43
  Cam: getting out
• 14:43
  Matt Harrison: of there, son.
• 14:44
Cam: Try to drive like a skid steer, just pull forward as fast as I can go.
• 14:49
Kyle: You know, we talk about it all the time on the show, not just about the sightings, but who's having the sightings.
• 14:54
  Cam: Oh, yeah.
• 14:55
Kyle: We lend credibility to certain people over others. Sorry to say that, but you guys got trained observers like police officers, fighter pilots. It makes a difference. You know? This one took place from a a deputy in Central Louisiana, and he said that he was going down a very dark rural road on the far edge of a parish one night, and he saw something coming off a timber cut into the ditch, and he said it was crawling on all fours.
• 15:20
He said the closest thing he can relate it to is the werewolf from American Werewolf in London. He said it had long arms, long legs. It was close to the ground. He could tell that it had big teeth. He said it was covered in hair.
• 15:34
And he said but I could see the skin underneath. He said it looked up at me, and I saw this eye shine as it passed the curve of the road. He said, man, I never told anybody about it. He said, but then a couple weeks later, a fellow deputy was over visiting, and he told me and my wife that he saw the same thing while out patrolling that week at night in the exact same spot on the same darn road traveling in the same direction.
• 16:01
Cam: Direction. He says, we both don't know what it was, but this whole road in this whole area is a community of Choctaw Indians. So was it
• 16:09
Kyle: a skinwalker? Was it a dogman? Is that the same thing? I don't know. But that's two deputies in the same county on the the same county road
• 16:18
  Cam: It's all
• 16:18
Kyle: the same experience. So lots of times when we get these stories and the and the the stories are so similar, but they're doing the same things in the same region. Is it even a physical thing or is it somehow like a like a replay, like a loop, like every night at two in the morning, that little thing happens. And if you're standing there at the time, you'll witness it, you know, just like they have these phantom trains, phantom stagecoaches. There's all these things where people it becomes famous there and they see this and it's like something that happened previous and it's on a loop.
• 16:48
Yeah. Or is it something physical? Yeah. Nobody really knows because when everybody sees something like that, they get out of there as you would. So this is a cop.
• 16:56
He's armed, and we got more than one. These are these sheriff deputies, they see stuff. Yeah. Rake sightings, sails a 120
• 17:03
Cam: millimeter. He didn't have an m two fifty with it. Yep. He needs the
• 17:06
Kyle: He was in an F250.
• 17:07
Matt Harrison: He didn't have that B26497
• 17:10
Cam: The TMD. TMDZ. Whatever that is. But, yeah, that's what he needs. Apparently, that's how you deal with them.
• 17:16
Yeah. I mean, I guess you
• 17:17
Clay Baird: could find out whether it's physical or not. You're looking for tracks or descents or scat or whatever, But, I'm I'm of the same mind as mindset as you. Like, it's a paranormal echo or something. You know? And and at some point, maybe these things will be explained and, you know, you see these things that are just that that are repeats and that you everybody sees the same exact thing.
• 17:36
It just goes through the same motions. And, you know, oh, alright. This is some kind of code in the system.
• 17:42
Kyle: Right. Like, we're in the matrix. We know that pretty much already. But and, like, when we have ghosts or spirit sightings of people, well, why can't animals? Maybe that was the ghost of, a dire wolf that went extinct ten thousand years ago, and it's replaying.
• 17:55
Yeah. I don't know. Nobody knows, but it's terrifying to think about.
• 18:00
Cam: Well, it's wild that we get some like the first story where they get shot and then you don't find anything. No blood, no tracks, no anything. Then you have others where you shoot something like it, and there's actual physical leftovers. So you're like, well, which one is it? Are they because they're obviously not the same.
• 18:16
No. You're like, so what's going on? Right? It it because you would think, oh, well, if one can die, they can all die. Well, turns out no.
• 18:22
Maybe not. Maybe not. SoccerDeditsFC sends this, and this one's a good one too. It says, I live in Valentine, Nebraska. I don't know where it is, but it sounds awesome already.
• 18:31
Right? When I was about 11. Right. Yeah. When I was about 11 years old, my brother and I, he was eight at the time, were out just doing a little tree work, cutting down trees, said it was probably this is about 07:00 at night, just cutting down trees, and so we were probably three to five miles in to our 4,000 acres.
• 18:51
Good night. Yeah. So it sounds like these kids was raised right.
• 18:54
  Matt Harrison: Like Yeah.
• 18:55
Cam: Dad's you got work to do. Yeah. Go there and clean
• 18:57
Matt Harrison: Go three miles of You
• 18:59
Cam: need to clean the fence lines. Get out there and go at it. Man, that sounds like If
• 19:03
  Kyle: it's 4,000 acres, that's a lot
• 19:04
Cam: of fence. That's a lot of fence, man. A lot of fence. Says we got tired of cutting trees, so we grabbed our chainsaws, put them on our four wheeler, and then tried to leave. God bless your parents too.
• 19:15
I like this. I like raising kid look. Yeah. There you go. You're gonna learn how to do it.
• 19:19
It's time to grow up. This is it. Here we go. Right? So these kids are out there doing work.
• 19:23
Said they tried to leave. Here's where it gets bad, y'all. The four wheeler wouldn't start.
• 19:27
Kyle: This is this is where it classic land movie.
• 19:30
Cam: This is where it goes. We tried for at least thirty minutes to get that thing to start, and it wouldn't start. Now, to keep in mind, this is a bunch of sand and hills and trees and we didn't have phones or anything, so we just started walking. An hour into our walk, we saw something moving around in the underbrush. Now at this point, it's about 90 yards from us.
• 19:52
This thing comes out of the brush and this is what we saw. It had an elk's body as it crawls out of the underbrush, but I could only describe it as a pale human head with black eyeballs. It had antlers as well. It looked right at us, made a sound like something of a coyote howl mixed with a scream then transformed into a white thing that looked just like they describe as a rake. It set against a tree and started saying, help me, help me, I've cut myself in my mother's voice.
• 20:33
Said, at this time, it's getting dark. We turn around and go to the old school building that's on the property and went down into the basement and we sat there. The next day, we tell our dad and he said that he's never seen it. So I'm assuming they got picked up. They skipped over that, waited.
• 20:50
I'm sure somebody come and found him. The next day, he says, tell our father and he said that he's never seen anything like that, but and he wouldn't believe us. Our grandfather said, oh, yeah. I've seen that thing many times and we call it a skin walker. After that, my dad sold the ranch.
• 21:07
Now that's there you go. The whole place I think a rancher that bought it runs cattle on it and I'm pretty sure he keeps finding dead cows in that area with no blood and no bite marks. So a possible rake went after a couple little youngins.
• 21:22
Matt Harrison: Did you say it looked like an elk at first?
• 21:24
  Cam: Body. Body.
• 21:26
Kyle: It's huge. Huge. With a human face. Pounders? To me, it sounds more like a wendigo.
• 21:31
Cam: Yeah. That's what it sounds like.
• 21:33
Kyle: Doing a skin whirlpool. But maybe those are the same thing. But because oftentimes, wendigos are closely related to not deer. Yeah. Yeah.
• 21:40
Yeah. For whatever reason, they take on that deer shape. Yeah. It's great. Antlers.
• 21:44
Cam: It's a not elk. But it sounds like it transformed, that it was looking like one thing Yeah. And then turned into something else.
• 21:51
Clay Baird: Yeah. It's like he caught it right in the middle as it was transforming, and then it went to something else beyond that.
• 21:56
Cam: So, yeah, make sure you enjoy your time in the woods, y'all.
• 21:59
Clay Baird: I mean, and your four wheeler won't cry. And your four wheeler won't cry. Miles out there.
• 22:03
  Kyle: Yeah.
• 22:04
Matt Harrison: And your young how you said
• 22:05
Cam: eight Eleven and eight. I don't
• 22:07
Kyle: know that I'd trust my eight year old with a chainsaw.
• 22:10
Cam: Yeah. I'm gonna buy a cannon.
• 22:11
Clay Baird: They're they're in Nebraska. Alright.
• 22:13
  Cam: You had a cannon.
• 22:15
Kyle: I don't know if I was operating it at eight, though. By eleven, I definitely
• 22:20
Matt Harrison: My eight year old was just on the He he was standing by. He was pulling the limbs.
• 22:24
Cam: We were just watching. Here we go.
• 22:25
Clay Baird: You know, one thing I I've I've never understood. So, you know, you have EMPs and things like that that can knock out your electronics.
• 22:31
  Cam: Yeah.
• 22:32
Clay Baird: Right? And you hear about that with, like, UFOs and things like that. But how are things knocking out your your engine, like, these mechanical functions? Like, what stops it?
• 22:40
Matt Harrison: Yeah. Or was that just a coincidence?
• 22:43
Cam: I guess it could have been because he said they walked about a mile.
• 22:46
Matt Harrison: What if they were
• 22:46
  Clay Baird: out saw it.
• 22:47
Cam: Before they saw Yeah. So, I mean, it could be, but then there is, I don't know.
• 22:51
Matt Harrison: Because being three or four miles in the woods, that's a that's a ways in there.
• 22:55
Cam: And that that's usually when it breaks down in Oh, a
• 22:57
Matt Harrison: 100%. Are you running out of gas?
• 22:58
  Kyle: You gotta put
• 22:58
  Matt Harrison: gas in it.
• 22:59
Kyle: Right. You're letting your own office.
• 23:01
  Cam: You're gonna hurt gas.
• 23:01
Kyle: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're all the way always when you're the furthest away from the truck, that's when you run out of gas.
• 23:06
Cam: But, again, it's still young people involved. Yeah. It doesn't come
• 23:10
Matt Harrison: after young people. Do you think too, them being young, it seemed a lot bigger to them?
• 23:15
  Kyle: Oh, I'm sure. 100%.
• 23:16
Matt Harrison: So when they described it like an elk.
• 23:18
  Kyle: And when you're scared
• 23:19
Matt Harrison: that have really been big. Know, when you start thinking stinking stink stinking. Thinking on things.
• 23:25
Cam: That's what a stroke sounds like, y'all.
• 23:28
Matt Harrison: When you're thinking about things when you're younger like that, everything just seems a lot
• 23:32
  Kyle: Yeah.
• 23:32
  Matt Harrison: Lot bigger.
• 23:32
  Kyle: Especially if you're scared.
• 23:34
  Cam: Correct. Because I
• 23:34
Kyle: mean, that happens all the time.
• 23:35
  Matt Harrison: Everything's bigger.
• 23:37
Kyle: There's, like, bank robberies and stuff like that. Eyewitnesses, they try to describe the the suspects, and they they're totally wrong. Mhmm. It's like in the moment, you're so freaked out. It's like, man, that thing was seven foot tall.
• 23:46
  Exactly.
• 23:47
Cam: No. And then we get some stories where the dude was like, you know, people, men, women, everybody will send them in and they're like, I was completely clear of thought. Everything I saw was great until it left. And then it was like something washed over them when it's gone and then they just fall apart. Right?
• 24:02
Where you're just like, I can't it's it just it shakes their life to its core.
• 24:06
Clay Baird: Yeah. We're not meant to see these things.
• 24:07
Cam: No. Don't think we are. Do with it. Yeah. I don't yeah.
• 24:09
I don't we're not ever meant to interact with that
• 24:11
Matt Harrison: at all. At this time, we're gonna go into a break. We've had some crazy stories, but we got some more crazy stories coming your way, so tune back in in just a minute.
• 24:22
VO: Stay tuned to the Ducks Unlimited podcast, sponsored by Purina Pro Plan and Bird Dog Whiskey after these messages.
• 24:46
Matt Harrison: Alright. Welcome back. We have some more stories on deck, and you do not want to miss these. I'm super excited.
• 24:54
  Kyle: Yeah.
• 24:54
Matt Harrison: Kyle, I know you got one teed up for us.
• 24:57
Kyle: Man, well, lucky for us, people rode in to Ducks Unlimited from all over, not just here in America. So this one comes from Ireland, and this person said that for us Irish and us older people, ferry forts are very real. If you saw a ring of stones where we grew up, like a circle of mushrooms, you left them alone or else. Now I promise you that this story is a 100% true. He said driving home about 11PM from my then girlfriend's family in a rural part of Kilkenny, Ireland in 02/2005, we were driving down a long stretch of rural road with farmers' fields and hedges all along.
• 25:32
The driver had the full high beams on, so I suppose it lit up the road for about a 100 yards ahead. Literally out of nowhere, there was what I can only describe as a monster on the other side of the road with its front paws on the bank about to go through a hedge. He said this thing was huge. Its back paws were nearly in the middle of the side of the road. It looked frozen in place like we had lamped it.
• 25:57
I don't know what that means. It must be an Irish term for something. He says, I stared at us and it saw us both. It stared at us, I'm sorry, and it saw us both. I can only describe it as it had a huge head and it had like a gargoyle's head and face.
• 26:11
It looked like it had scales on its body and only was about four foot tall. Like I said, to me, this thing was huge. We saw it clearly for about five seconds, and when we passed it, I turned to the driver and said, did you see that? She did. And we both honestly were terrified.
• 26:29
Now she was a very religious woman and started whispering the rosary to herself. She told me that we had to have just seen a demon. I kept back looking back into the darkness just expecting it to come through the rear window or jump on the car, but it never did. I stumbled across a YouTube video in 2009 called the Wessex Way Monster, and this is exactly what we saw. If you wanna go check it out, it's still up on YouTube.
• 26:53
Mhmm. He said there's a paper out here called the Farmers Journal here in Ireland. The same woman and I were seeing we were seeing her parents, and they said there were some dairy farmers. In about 02/2006, they had a copy of this journal in their home and ahead a headline that read something like unexplained sheep kills in Kilkenny. We never told her parents or anyone else what we saw for fear of being laughed at, but we both knew instantly when we saw that paper what was killing them.
• 27:22
So they saw this gargoyle looking thing on the road. Now The Wessex Way Monster. The Wessex Way Monster. I'm gonna have to look into that because I've never heard of that, so maybe we'll be covering that on a future episode. But I know there was a flap of gargoyle sightings that took place in Florida.
• 27:38
Lon Strickler has, I would say, eight or nine different sightings from a a specific region of Florida where people were seeing what they said looked like a gargoyle.
• 27:47
Cam: Looks just like you would think a carved gargoyle if it just came to life.
• 27:50
Clay Baird: Yeah. And what is it? Like. I mean How?
• 27:53
Kyle: Well, like, it's Florida. Right?
• 27:54
  Clay Baird: So Well
• 27:55
Cam: That seems like But that's Ireland too. Place. So what are you trying to say? So you Irish in Florida that's you make sure you go to Ducks Unlimited and find Clay Baird. That's where
• 28:05
  Kyle: you're go.
• 28:07
Clay Baird: So one of the things that as you're reading that was, like, I thought of the Irish chupacabra. Yeah. It's it's killing sheep instead of goats because sheep are what's there. And Mexico, it's the chupacabra, the goat sucker.
• 28:19
Kyle: Yeah. And what's so crazy, the chupacabra is different based on region. Yeah. I guess Bigfoot would be the same, but chupacabras are way different. Like, in Puerto Rico, they're like lizards.
• 28:27
Yeah. You go to Texas, it just looks like a mangy coyote. Yeah. Which is what I think it is. Yeah.
• 28:32
I'm listen. I don't really like water cryptids, and I'm not a big fan of gourds or chupacopras.
• 28:40
Clay Baird: Just a we go. In case people don't know
• 28:42
Kyle: Yeah. It's an inside joke.
• 28:44
Clay Baird: Kyle does not like gourds really of any kind.
• 28:47
Kyle: No. Not really. Not really. So my wife loves This time of year, my wife buys them everywhere. I'm sick of the darn things.
• 28:52
  Clay Baird: Me too.
• 28:54
Kyle: I don't get the allure. Like, what's the deal with gourds?
• 28:56
  Cam: Yeah. Who knows?
• 28:58
Clay Baird: It's like a Seinfeld episode.
• 28:59
Cam: I mean, what's the deal with gourds? Gourds. He hates them. He hates gourds.
• 29:04
Kyle: I got a crazy one here that somebody wrote in named seven series max. They said that they live in Western North Carolina, and they said it's right on the border of the state forest that goes over into Tennessee. He said that he's seen lots of weird stuff over his life, but the scariest thing he saw was last summer. He said he was burning some down trees, and he heard something across the creek on the neighbor's property. He said it sounded like a bear walking around the woods.
• 29:26
He said when he looked over there, there were four, get this, tall skinny trees that were not there before standing in between me and the light on the neighbor's property. He said he went up to the house, he grabbed his AR, and he came back. He said when I came back, those four trees were gone. They had moved 20 feet to the left of where they were previously. He said, pretty much at that point, I packed it in because I could see the fire from the house.
• 29:53
I would not go out in the woods out here anymore at night, and I talked to a friend of mine that's part Cherokee. She said what you saw was a wendigo or what the Cherokee call a forest witch. She told me that when you see one, you don't wanna be in that part of the woods again. I'm out. Now considering we live in a valley called Skenau, which is the Cherokee word for unknown evil Oh.
• 30:15
Entity or spirit just wanted to share. Yep. So these spirit witches, that's I don't wanna
• 30:22
  Cam: I'm out.
• 30:23
  Kyle: That stuff.
• 30:23
  Cam: I'm Come
• 30:24
  Kyle: out, man.
• 30:25
  Cam: Get me their place.
• 30:25
Matt Harrison: Give me a pile of rocks somewhere else I can do yep.
• 30:29
Cam: I don't wanna go down
• 30:30
Kyle: about it. Like in Cam's last story, the grandfather had seen that thing many times. Remember his dad disbelieved it.
• 30:35
Matt Harrison: Hey, babe. Go get a for sale sign and stick it right
• 30:37
Cam: in front yard. We're selling everything.
• 30:39
Kyle: And then the story with the with the stacked rocks, the old timers around there had
• 30:44
Matt Harrison: I've seen it before.
• 30:44
Kyle: Stories of something in that creek bottom that smelled like death. Same thing. This Cherokee woman's like, oh, that was a forest witch as if it's just a common thing. That's what I always like.
• 30:54
  Cam: Oh, you don't know?
• 30:54
  Kyle: Yeah. You don't know?
• 30:56
Matt Harrison: And there's like she sees it a lot or something like that.
• 30:58
Clay Baird: Yeah. I I hear the word witch and I'm like automatically, man.
• 31:02
  Cam: I'm out with you.
• 31:03
Matt Harrison: Anytime I don't I don't deal with witch. You know? Anything like that, I'm out.
• 31:07
Kyle: And I don't know what it is with that with humans. It's like we dismiss the stories of the of the locals. Like, if you go to The Philippines and they talk about the ass whang, it's like this vampire thing. To them, it's it's like you talking about an armadillo. Yeah.
• 31:19
They're like, oh, yeah. We know what that is. We know what forest witches are.
• 31:22
Cam: Goats in Alaska talk about Bigfoot.
• 31:24
  Kyle: Like, it's not a
• 31:25
  Cam: big deal.
• 31:26
Kyle: It's that. But we're like, oh, they don't know what they're talking about. Those are Inuit. They don't know. They're legends.
• 31:31
Man, they're not real. It's like, why do we always dismiss it? Yeah. Maybe it is real. If you go to the central heart of the Congo, they talk about Mokileo Bembe like, yeah, dude.
• 31:39
My grandfather saw it. I saw a dinosaur. Mhmm. And we're
• 31:42
  Cam: like, Yeah.
• 31:44
  Kyle: It's not true.
• 31:45
  Clay Baird: Yeah.
• 31:45
Cam: Turns out, it can. Yeah. You go
• 31:48
Kyle: to the native American tradition, they all know exactly what wendigos are. They know exactly what skinwalkers are. Well, we don't wanna believe that
• 31:55
  Cam: it's real.
• 31:55
  Clay Baird: That's the thing.
• 31:56
Kyle: You wanna convince yourself that it's not real.
• 31:58
Clay Baird: You'll you'll see this in our
• 31:59
  Cam: That's my thing.
• 32:00
Clay Baird: In our YouTube comments for these stories, these same stories you're gonna tell. There's gonna be at least one person per story who's like, yeah. That never happened. And just because they do not
• 32:09
Cam: wanna believe it. Hey, I'm
• 32:10
Kyle: with you. Right? Yeah. That's exactly what it is.
• 32:12
Cam: I'm with you. But there's something going on. Yeah. There's way too much happening. I got one here from Jeffrey King.
• 32:18
Says my father and I, last year, during duck season, hunted a spot about a mile and a half off the main road of a dirt road. Now, we're here in East Texas in public land and here it is real swampy, but we had some high pine trees in the high places. So we were in the truck watching the entrance sitting ready to walk in fast if someone tried to beat us to the spot. All the lights are off, our eyes were adjusted just sitting in the truck in the dark. At this moment, I saw a dark human shaped figure glide or move across the front of the truck and it was this this figure was darker than dark.
• 32:59
I screamed, my dad responded and flipped the headlights on. It was still in front when the lights cut on, but there was no trace of anything. What we saw was six to seven foot tall, moving in the darkness until the lights cut on and it vanished. Said dad told me that he saw it ten minutes earlier than I did, which was scary because it's realistic. He's very realistic while I'm slightly dramatic, it says, but I trust in God's protection when hunting alone and I always carry my gun loaded and now I have a pistol.
• 33:32
So what they saw what was it? Because what they described at first sounds like Bigfoot. When you get into East Texas, you're like, okay, it's Bigfoot. The dad watched this thing move around the truck for ten minutes, the kid sees it, goes in front, kid screams, he pops the lights on and there's nothing there.
• 33:47
Kyle: What is it? Could have been a ghost.
• 33:48
Cam: Yeah. First of all, for those that don't know and we've talked about it at the end, if you've not been to East Texas, it's a very strange place. Very different. I may have told y'all this before, it's second. The East Texas, the the Green Curtain is second only to Alaska.
• 34:04
It's the second largest forest in The United States. Wow. So you get in there, it is something to behold. If you've never been there and you've always wanted to go, I can urge you take a trip, take your family, do whatever, go down there, check it all out, but it is an unnerving area where numerous extremely unsettling things happen. I may have told the story of it.
• 34:24
I had worked with a fellow friend of mine that grew up out there. Tell him. And when he was his name was Darryl, grew up way out in the country. They were poor, they didn't have much. Everything they did, they just did in the woods, they camped, all that stuff.
• 34:39
He said every year, him and his brothers, and he was the youngest of several, extremely. He was he he told me straight up, he was like, I was the the accident. All my brothers were way older than I was, so I come along, but they would always play with him. When I say well, like his next brother, he was nine years old, his brother was 18. That was his closest one, they were all older.
• 34:57
So he's playing with his friends and all this and he said every year would come around, his father would be like, y'all can't go out and play this at this point, you need to wait a little bit. He'd And say, why not dad? He was like, well, the mountain lion is breeding, you can hear it. And he said, you'd hear these mountain lions calling the whole time. He said, this went on throughout his life, grew up, you know, and he had some other weird things, he had several other weird things, but this one goes forward.
• 35:18
Fast forward, he said his daughter's in school, she's gonna do a book report on mountain lions. So he's pumped because he's like, girl, I grew up with like, were all around, like, we heard them all the time. She does her PowerPoint, everything she's gonna take to school and she's like, dad, look. He's she's playing the sounds of them screaming and calling, and he's like, oh, that's a great report. She gets her stuff and goes off, and he turns to his wife, and he says, that's not what I heard.
• 35:43
That is nothing even remotely close to the sound I heard. And she's like, what do you think it was? He goes, I don't know, but it wasn't a mountain lion and that's what my dad told me for years. That's every He said, it happened several times and that's what it was that his father would always tell him. He said, so I got interested in it, but didn't think much of it.
• 35:59
You get busy with life, you're just like, I don't know. He said, you fast forward a few weeks, maybe in a month or so. Said his son's on the computer watching Finding Bigfoot. He starts playing the screams that they allegedly have and all this these guys are making. And Daryl said he walked in the room and he was like, what do you got going on?
• 36:15
His son's telling him and he's watching, they've always been interested because where they lived and it was great. Son goes off and he turns to his wife and he said, that's what I heard. He goes, that sound used to be twice a year around us for weeks, would go on in the middle of the night, you would hear it going. He said, my father never spoke of Bigfoot, never spoke of anything like that. He goes, what did he know wouldn't that But he convinced us and my friends, you can't go out there.
• 36:45
  What did he know?
• 36:45
Kyle: There was very insistent on it. Yeah. I'm telling you, you're gonna That's what he's gonna
• 36:49
Cam: can't go. Yeah. He's like, you cannot go out there. They're gonna get you and that's what he had him believing that it was mountain lions and it was that. And he's the same guy who that 18 year old brother came home after basic training and he said, when I was like nine, I wanted to be just like him, know, he's the big army guy, that's what I want to be.
• 37:07
He said that something had been getting their chickens and his brother was home, they were all up late one evening talking, he said something's getting after the chickens, his brother grabs his pistol and goes out the front door. He said, you know, I'm a kid, I wanna be like my brother. He said, I go out the back door. He said, I'm gonna run around and see what my brother's gonna do. He said, you know, I'm a big military guy.
• 37:27
He said, I go running around the back door, turn the corner of the house. I'm sprinting. He said, mom had hung a rug, an old dirty rug on the on the clothesline. He said, I run into that, knocks me flat. Down I go, boom.
• 37:39
He said, I'm covered in mud and leaves and all this crap. He said, my brother's over there dealing with that. Nothing, no gunfire, he never did anything. He said, I came back in the house, my brother came the parents are talking and they're laughing at me, how'd you get so dirty? And I said, because I run into the rug mom's got hanging up.
• 37:55
Mom said, I don't have a rug hanging up. He was like, we don't have a clothesline up right now. He said, whatever I ran into was wet, smelt like a dog and was covered in dirt and sticks and leaves. He said, I hit it and it knocked me flat on my back. He said, I got up was like, uh-uh and walked back in the house and that was it.
• 38:13
He said, we go outside, there's nothing there. So what did I run into? He goes, I think you know what I ran into. I'm like, yeah, I think you know what you ran into. He's like, yep.
• 38:23
So he's had a couple of things like that and then it wasn't of course, this is off topic, but here we go. It wasn't until he and I got to talking and we discussed some of these stories that he went to tell him some of his friends in East Texas about the show and the stories. And one of them contacted us and told us a story that he and his dad had happened on a lake in East Texas just probably not seven years ago, eight years ago, maybe a little longer, but they were on a boat cruising about 30 foot off the shoreline, maybe a little closer flipping and pitching right at early as dusk was or daylight was just breaking. He said he was in the back of the boat, not my buddy Daryl, it's my buddy Daryl's buddy. And this guy and his dad, his dad was in the front running the boat, you know, and working the shoreline.
• 39:11
He said, I'm in the back getting some stuff and I hear my father go, what is that? And he said, I turn and 30 foot from us, it looked at first, said, you know, thought it was a cow or a pig or something watery. You can see it in the water Mhmm. Right at the edge, crouched down. He said, when when my dad says that this thing stands up, he said, it just continues to stand up.
• 39:32
It takes two big steps behind a tree and then starts peeking out behind the side of it. He said it had to be well over six and a half to seven foot tall, whatever it was. Huge. Huge black thing. He said it looked big and broad like a gorilla, maybe even bigger and close to six to seven foot tall, stood up and stepped back in there.
• 39:51
He said, my dad didn't say anything, I didn't say anything. He said, we just trolling motored right past, watched it. The whole time he goes, my dad goes back to fishing, I went back to fishing, half hour went by before dad finally goes, what do you think that was? And he was like, I think you know what that was. He's like, yep.
• 40:08
And he goes, we fished and but that was it. They never spoke of it after that. He goes, who are gonna tell? Because people are gonna think you're out of
• 40:14
Kyle: your mouth. Exactly right. And you feel safe on the boat. Yeah. But the truth
• 40:17
Cam: like, I'm 30 foot from it. He said, I looked right at it. I know exactly what that was. And he was like
• 40:23
Kyle: And the tree peeking is very common. Like, they see, oh, there's humans, that's what they'll do. They'll try to Yeah. Put them something between them and you. But his friend Daryl didn't tell Cam any of those stories until he found out about the podcast, so he had been carrying that.
• 40:36
Cam: He'd been carrying the whole then it's like,
• 40:38
Kyle: oh, so you're into this kind of stuff. Let me tell you some stories.
• 40:41
Cam: Yeah. And the only reason I brought it up to him is because he's from East Texas. Right? And I'm like, oh, let me ask you some questions, and he was like, oh, and then he found out. He's like, dude, we've had some really, really weird things happen.
• 40:52
So all of y'all that have sent all these stories in from East Texas, dude, I'm in because that's a strange, strange place. Same like Pennsylvania. Strange place. You get some strange stories out of certain parts of the country, but that area of East Texas is unsettling.
• 41:06
Kyle: I got one, and this was Here we go. Sent in on to Ducks Unlimited Stories. And when I was on here and I told the thermal story about the rake or whatever that was, a lot of people commented and sent us emails too about how they didn't have quite the same experience, but something very similar. This one, their name is Will Barnes 1726. It says, when I was around 10 years old, me and my buddy were at his house near Huntsville, Texas, which is in East Texas, in a place called Richards.
• 41:35
Now being a kid, we wanted to go camping out on their land, so we went pretty far out on their property, which is about 30 or so acres, and we made up a makeshift tent. After a couple of hours or so, we started hearing this blood curdling scream. He said, we didn't know what it was, but we could clearly tell that it was saying, help me, which is just like the thermal story. Remember? He said it generally sounded like a woman that was being attacked.
• 42:01
Now being stupid kids that we were trying to be brave, we yelled back at it. Like, we're coming. We're coming to help or something like that. Be right there. Right.
• 42:10
Well, he said Yeah. Once we did that, it like, the screaming started getting closer, like it started coming their direction, but it was and they would yell at it again. Hold tight. You know, we're coming to get you. And he said, it kept coming closer to them.
• 42:24
He says, eventually, we started getting freaked out. So we kept after it kept getting closer, we hightailed it back to his house. We left everything back there, the everything we had at camp. So screw it. We'll get it tomorrow.
• 42:36
He said, we went back the next morning and elder stuff was screwed about, like strewn apart. Something got in there, and they don't know they don't know what it is, but they said when they heard the story of the thermal story that I told on this show
• 42:49
  Matt Harrison: And they don't.
• 42:50
Kyle: She said they got goosebumps as soon as I said that it said help. Help me in a woman's voice because he said, that's exactly what we experienced.
• 42:58
Matt Harrison: That's crazy. So many of these stories, the words that are said is help me. And it's a woman's voice.
• 43:05
Kyle: For whatever reason, it Playing it probably thinks that you're more likely to help a baby or a woman. Well, yeah. Of course.
• 43:12
  Cam: Mhmm.
• 43:12
  Clay Baird: That that
• 43:13
Cam: So I've read through all the YouTube comments
• 43:16
Clay Baird: for those videos, and there are hundreds and hundreds of them. And there are a lot of stories where they don't tell the full story, but that they had similar experiences where something yelled help in a woman's voice.
• 43:26
Kyle: Yeah. And, like, in the Northeast, they they have a thing called the, which is like a nature spirit, and that's exactly what it is. It's a trick trickster. It tries to lure you in. And up there, in the native American folklore, they're like, do not follow the voice because it's gonna lead you to somewhere.
• 43:41
Clay Baird: I mean, we do the same thing. You know, hunters, they they're calling they're calling deer. They're calling ducks. They're calling whatever. Right?
• 43:46
  They're calling turkeys in. So
• 43:48
Cam: When you call in predators Yeah. You gotta use what baits them in. Yeah. What I the the thing that's the most unsettling to me as we've collected all these stories is we've seen an uptick of people having these kind of encounters more than anything else now in the woods. Like, they're getting to be a lot more of hunters, especially out there because they're in remote areas.
• 44:12
They've got the thermals or they've got the night vision where they can find it, whatever it is. There's more and more people having these. And I'm like, I didn't realize that there was that many of that out there. Like, it's Bigfoot has never bothered me. The idea of seeing it or if it was that's one of those things I'm like, dude, if I was to see one, I probably would never tell anybody.
• 44:30
Yeah. But it would be amazing to be like, alright. Now I know. Like, that's awesome. Now I know.
• 44:35
Yeah. But this isn't like that. Bigfoot, Kyle and I've always joked about, feels like a forest hippie. Like, it's there to be like a regulator of mother nature. Like, that's what it feels like.
• 44:49
It's for something. These, whatever this is, just feels like pure evil. Like, that's just it just feels like
• 44:56
Clay Baird: It's trying to hurt you.
• 44:57
Cam: It it is. It's try it's feeding off something, whether it's emotion or whether it's a physical piece of you it's trying to feed off of. I don't know. But it doesn't it's not like anything else that we've covered. No.
• 45:10
None of these things because of that crying out, that help me, that calling, that drawing you in.
• 45:15
Kyle: And there are cases in other countries like in Japan, I can't think of the name of it right now, but they have a similar thing where and they like for whatever reason, it likes to lure women into the sea. They'll they'll make it look like a drowning baby Yeah. Or a child, and so a woman will hear that and see it, and they'll run out into the ocean to try to save the drowning child, and they end up getting drowned themselves. And it's like, what is tricking people into doing that? But it's playing off your emotions.
• 45:39
Cam: Yeah. Well, I got one still from East Texas from Nacogdoches. Yep. Vabido sends that says that I live in Nacogdoches to be exact and that there's a spring fed creek behind my house called the Alazon Bayou. I was walking it one day looking for arrowheads, and I hear what I can only describe as a grown man screaming, wow, and then taking a huge rock and smashing it up against the tree three times, tree knock.
• 46:11
Boom. Boom. Boom. He says, I'm in a creek bed and whatever is doing this is up and out of the floodplain about 200 yards from me. So so I make a decision just to just to keep walking.
• 46:22
I make it another couple bends around the creek, I'm not finding any artifacts at this point and the thing that made its noise did it again except this time in the exact same spot. So he's getting more and closer to it and it is still standing there making all this racket. So turned around, booked it. Says to this day, it's one of the weirdest things that I've ever heard in the woods besides somebody one time whistling at me at night. Well, you get into the whistling stories.
• 46:49
Your son. It happened to my son. It happened to my son in like 2017, 2016, 2017 on a mule deer hunt in New Mexico and he told me he got back right after when it happened and he called me and he was like, so I'm standing in the middle of nowhere. He said, I know it's in the middle of nowhere because it's him and his cousin and my two brother in laws. And he's like, we've been hiking this whole time out there, not seeing anything, you know, a few deer of course, but not people.
• 47:17
Yeah. He said he was in a little draw and at first he said, I thought it was a bird. Something started whistling and he said he looks around and he was like, well, it's not a bird. He said then the he realizes the whistle has I don't even know how you would put it, context. Intent.
• 47:31
Exactly. Like there's a reason for it. So then he thinks, well, it's my it's his uncle. So he starts looking around like, well, maybe he's He start whistling back. Yeah.
• 47:39
So right. He said, I'm not seeing him. There's nothing. He goes, as it continues to whistle, I look and he said, it's in a bush. He says, like a cluster of brush and it's like this scrub brush and it's in the scrub.
• 47:51
He said, so I walk to the scrub like, where's this bird? There's not a bird. He said, he walks around looking and he goes, there's nothing in there making this sound or this whistle. So he said, I'll just play it real cool. I'm nonchalant, start walking off.
• 48:06
Another one, he said, it happened a few times while he was out there in different spots but that was like the main one and there was never anything there. It was just a random whistle and we have received numerous tales of whistling. We got one not long ago where there was a couple, I believe it was a man and his fiance was hiking and he reported hearing whistling to her. Turns around and says like, did you hear that whistling? She said, I've been hearing it for like ten minutes.
• 48:39
And he was like, why did you say anything? She goes, I thought you were ignoring it. He goes, I just heard it. She goes, well, how am I hearing it for ten minutes and you've just now heard it? And he goes, I don't know but where do you think it come from?
• 48:50
And she pointed to the tops of the trees and he goes, that's exactly what I thought. It's coming from the tops of the trees. He goes, like birds. He goes, but there's no birds. He goes, we watch and walk.
• 49:01
He goes, the whistling's coming. Nothing. Insanely thing I thought glimmer man. Something invisible in those trees messing with you. Well, now after what we heard about these crawlers and these rakes, maybe it's them.
• 49:14
Imagine if those things in the daytime could blend themselves like a squid or a chameleon. If they could just wrap up into a treetop and turn into that an insect and maybe that's what they're closely related to, some sort of insect. I don't know.
• 49:30
Clay Baird: So for our audience, can you guys explain what glimmer man is?
• 49:34
Cam: So glimmer man, for for everybody besides Matt that's seen the movie Predator, they were gonna have to he's gonna watch it after this. So they were tales that we received we found years ago, and then we started talking about it, and then it kinda grew, is we would receive tales of people seeing invisible beings. So it would look like something you could remotely say or roughly say just like the predator when he was cloaked in that film. You can see the outline of a humanoid, and it is somewhat magnified around the edges as it bends the light. Imagine if you're looking, I guess, like a little cellophane guy almost, but that's what it was.
• 50:15
And then Kyle and I just there were several names. We just decided to stick with we just always called it glimmer man because we like the name, and so we just kept it at that. And then we And we
• 50:24
Kyle: like the Steven Seagal movie.
• 50:25
Cam: Oh, yeah. It's Kyle's fate. And it was a a few stories at first. And when I see a few, I mean, like, probably six. Yeah.
• 50:33
Kyle: They would just trickle in. Find.
• 50:35
Cam: And then as it started getting where people would find out, oh, there's more, we started getting more and more stories of, like, I saw that in 1986. I saw that in 1975. I saw and then it goes back to where you would have accounts back from, like, the fifties and sixties of people reporting Before
• 50:52
  Kyle: the
• 50:52
Cam: movie. Thing. Way before the movie. And now tell them the strange part about the movie.
• 50:57
Kyle: About the connection with the producer? Yeah. So I didn't find this out till years later on researching for the book that we now have that it's gonna be coming out. It's not out yet, but it's gonna be out shortly. The guy that created the special effect for the predator and its cloaking was a guy named Joel Heineck.
• 51:13
Well, Joel Heineck, dad his dad is J. Allen Heineck, who's the famous researcher of UFOs. He was one of those scientists that was employed by the government to start looking into some of these UFO cases, and he was against it. He didn't believe it. But the more and more people he interviewed, the more and more over time, he became a 100% believing in the UFO phenomenon.
• 51:35
So I always wondered, did his dad ever tell his son something about a cloaked being and then his son was like, I know. That's what we'll do in this movie. Because the movie's about an alien that comes to planet Earth to hunt. And he's like, I know what we'll do. We'll make it look like that.
• 51:50
But, yeah, we've got all kinds of stories.
• 51:52
  Matt Harrison: That's crazy.
• 51:53
Clay Baird: And so, like, me and him We'll get more too. After people hear
• 51:56
  Cam: this, we're
• 51:57
  Clay Baird: gonna get
• 51:57
Kyle: more. Yeah. We're we're definitely gonna
• 51:59
Cam: Now I will say this. The majority of the stories of the glimmer man, I don't recall any of them being evil. Any of them like, being there is there's some where people have reported actually seeing it in their home. Now we don't know, but the ones outside. The ones where you get in the outdoors, it's not like the rake.
• 52:19
It truly is. It's watching. It's like an observer. He's curious. Yeah.
• 52:23
Or is Kinda Or is it some sort of yeah. Like, is it is it a guardian angel type effect of this thing watching you where you're at? Like, I don't know. They also report them in different sizes. We have heard reports of them small, where they're, like, childlike sizes all the way up to large.
• 52:38
The other really weird thing is is lots of times they say you will see these things moving through the trees, but the trees don't react to the weight of the size of that thing that it should be.
• 52:47
Kyle: Right. Like, it's standing on too thin of a limb. It should be bending if something was standing on it.
• 52:52
  Cam: But it's not
• 52:52
Kyle: And we've had cases of people that heard about the glimmer man. They didn't call it the glimmer man. They called it the watcher because they said my whole life Yeah. I would see this thing sporadically, and I'd be like, oh, that's the watcher. So like just like he was saying, is it a guardian angel?
• 53:05
  Cam: Right.
• 53:05
Kyle: Is it a ghost? Is it a demon? Is it as wacky as I've heard it is it's us, a time traveler, who's coming back and wanting to see what it looks like now, and they've got the ability to cloak themselves. Like, if I had the ability to go back to ancient Egypt and walk around invisible to everybody around you, who wouldn't do that?
• 53:22
Cam: I'd do it in fifteen minutes.
• 53:23
Kyle: Or is it like something bleeding through from a like, the matrix like we talk about? So nobody really knows, but we got these stories. If you want, I got one.
• 53:31
  Clay Baird: Let's hear it.
• 53:32
Kyle: Okay. So this took place many years ago in Georgia. He said it took place over forty seven years ago in the 1978. It was deer season in particular. Now he talked about how he walked around this area.
• 53:44
He said it was Southeast end of the Chattahoochee National Forest. He said that it's a there's a national forest up there, and the road is in an area called Cooper's Creek. That's where this hunting spot was. He said he'd been scouting it and hunting it for years. So he went out in early July, August, walked around, was looking for a good spot or at least a spot he thought would be good, and he's like, I'm gonna hang my ladder stand here.
• 54:07
I'm gonna hunt with my shotgun, and this is where I'm gonna do it. So he did it, he said, first couple of hunts happened, nothing really happened. He said on his sixth hunt, it was late afternoon. It was about 04:15PM. He said he wanted to get there earlier, but at work, they hired this new guy named Ryan, and Ryan was just making stuff slow.
• 54:26
So he finished work at 05:00. This was his typical thing. On Fridays
• 54:29
  Cam: Go, Ryan.
• 54:30
Kyle: His wife knows that he's going hunting, and so every Friday when he gets off work, he goes doesn't go home. He has all his stuff ready to go. He goes straight to the hunting spot. His wife his wife knows that she'll have dinner ready about 9PM because she knows what he likes to do because if, you know, if he gets something, he's probably gonna be later. Anyways, so he went out there and he said he was walking to his stand, and the first thing he noticed that seemed off was how quiet it was.
• 54:55
And we talk about this in a lot of different sightings. It's called like the Oz effect is what they call it, where all the normal sounds, all the normal critters in the woods, it's like completely quiet. We always think not even paranormally, but like, is there a mountain lion in the area? There's a predator around. That's why everything's shutting up.
• 55:12
He says, man, it was really quiet. He said, I didn't hear the usual chirping or the singing of songbirds, no insects, nothing, just a slight breeze. He said he thought it was strange, but he continued to his deer stand. He said he finally arrived, he climbed up, and he settled in. He said once he was comfortable, he jacked around into the chamber, he put the safety on his shotgun, and he just began sitting there surveying his surroundings and looking for anything that looked out of place.
• 55:37
He said, like, you know, sometimes deer bed down all day and then you can spot their antlers above the tall grass before they get up. You know, he's just bored. Right? All of us have been there. He said as he was doing this, all of sudden started to get this ominous feeling that somebody was watching him.
• 55:53
He's like, I don't know how to explain it other than I just had this deep feeling deep within in my core, in my gut that someone's out here, someone's out here with me, and they're, like, staring at me. He's like, I don't know. He said the whole time, he stopped he he tried to convince himself that he's being a coward, and he kept on in his mind, he kept on having to get in himself like, there's nothing out here, idiot. There's just deer, some squirrels, skunks, you know. But he said, as time passed, the odd feeling, it only intensified.
• 56:24
He said, I kept looking at my watch, wondering how much more time I had left until dusk. He's like, should I leave early? And then he's like, man, I'm not gonna move because something big will come in. As soon as I start trying to get down, this when the big bucks gonna come in. Right?
• 56:38
He said all of a sudden on his right side, he noticed something. He noticed something up in the tree canopy, and he's like, that's when I saw it. He said, this part gives me chills even writing you guys. This now freaks me out because I don't know what I saw. He said, as I was staring into the trees, I saw what looked like a large bodybuilder moving through them, but it was completely blurry.
• 57:00
He said, I could clearly see the figure's outline, but the rest is like is like I couldn't focus on it. He said it looked like it was transparent, like a gelatinous blob, but in the shape of a human being. And whenever it would stop, it would be completely camouflaged. He said, I'd lost sight of it. I could only see it when it moved.
• 57:21
He said this thing blended into its background perfectly. He said, I watched it, what seemed like an eternity, but probably was only fifteen minutes. He said it moved through the trees effortlessly like a monkey or a squirrel would. He said, it never looked at me, but I got the feeling that someone was watching me. I said, I don't know.
• 57:39
It slowly moved off. He said, was scared, and when I finally lost sight of it, I climbed down. It was getting dark, and I slowly got out of there. He said, once I hit the ground and got about 50 yards away from my hunting spot, then I started picking up pace, and I moved all the way to my pickup truck. He said, my lungs were on fire.
• 57:56
He said, that's the farthest and the fastest I've run since basic training, and that was in 1967. He said, I sat there in my truck and tried to regain my breath. I drove home and I didn't say anything to my wife, well, at least not for weeks. He says, as time passed, I tried to convince myself that, man, I imagined that all, that I I dozed off while I was in the tree stand, and I had some kind of crazy dream. He said, but I couldn't get the idea of this thing out of my head.
• 58:22
So finally, one night over dinner, I broke down, and I told my wife about it. She just listened. At the end, she said, man, it was probably just your imagination. I later told my brother who said something very similar to her. He said, I never told anyone else.
• 58:36
Never. He said, I never went hunting in those same woods again. I never went back to that get that tree stand. Like, I just left it there. He's like, it was only a $300 stand.
• 58:43
  I don't care.
• 58:44
  Cam: Like, I'm leaving it.
• 58:45
Kyle: He's like, no. I didn't quit hunting. He said, I took a break for about ten years, but then I started up again, but never in that area. He said later, in 1988, he saw the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, the predator. He said, I couldn't believe it when I saw it.
• 59:00
Soon as I saw it, I jumped up and yelled at my wife, that's it. That's what I saw. He said, it looks just like it. He's like, I don't know if the writer had a similar experience as mine and that's what inspired him to make the predator cloak the way he did, but it looked exactly like that. Now this happened in the 1978 in Georgia.
• 59:18
He said, I thought I was alone until you guys did the episode on the glimmer man, and now I realize that others have seen it too. He said, I don't know if that makes me feel better or worse, but that's my story, James. So this happened before the movie.
• 59:33
Cam: Yeah. He didn't know what
• 59:35
Kyle: he saw, and that's what happens with a lot of these people. And when they write us as if we're experts, we're like, we don't know what you saw either.
• 59:42
  Cam: Mm-mm.
• 59:43
Kyle: It could be a list of things.
• 59:44
Clay Baird: Yeah. It makes you wonder, like, have we seen these things too?
• 59:49
Cam: Mean, he just walked by. We just walked right by.
• 59:52
Kyle: Well and that's what happens. Some of these stories, he's like, if it's not moving, you can't see it. It, like, blends in perfectly. It's only like when you catch movement. Our eyes are, as predators, are meant to pick up movement.
• 1:00:01
I mean, I don't know how many times I'm hunting. It's really dark. I won't notice the pigs there till I see them move. I'm like, oh,
• 1:00:06
Cam: see the tail twitch or an ear move, and you're like,
• 1:00:08
Kyle: oh, there's one in there.
• 1:00:11
Matt Harrison: So is the blurriness and is the when when they're not able to really fix on it, do you think that's the persons that's having trouble visualizing it?
• 1:00:23
Cam: Or doing it something to them? To them?
• 1:00:25
Matt Harrison: Or do you think it's actually what it is they're seeing that's
• 1:00:28
Cam: I think it's actually what they're seeing because we don't have any accounts of them seeing it shift out of that. We don't have anybody saying, I saw it go from invisible to what it is when it's not invisible. It's just always like that.
• 1:00:41
  Matt Harrison: Okay.
• 1:00:42
Cam: No and so I don't know. But I do. There may be some other things that do that. I like the idea of that. Like, it might be affecting your ass up because Bigfoot, they've always speculated that it uses infrasound Mhmm.
• 1:00:52
Right, to affect people and give them these crazy feelings. Speaking of crazy
• 1:00:55
Kyle: Well, some people even say that the is Bigfoot, that that's Bigfoot cloaking itself. But then it doesn't make sense that it's walking around up in the trees.
• 1:01:02
Clay Baird: Yeah. And not bending
• 1:01:03
Cam: Yeah. Some people is what makes it light as a feather. Right?
• 1:01:06
Kyle: Well and people say that it's our military. Like, it's high-tech camouflage. And could you
• 1:01:11
Clay Baird: pick it up on thermal?
• 1:01:12
  Cam: That's a good point. That's a
• 1:01:13
Kyle: good point. I wonder if you could. People don't ever look for them because at night, you'd never see it.
• 1:01:17
Cam: Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. See it. Look.
• 1:01:20
I got one I have to share. This might be the best one Oh, boy. Of the whole thing. Kay Fiskal writes this, and this took place on a canoeing trip in the Rappadan River. This is where the Rappadan meets the Rappahancock, I guess, where this place is.
• 1:01:36
It was his it was him. Well, he has the canoe rental there. So it was him and three buddies. He said before they got there, one of his buddies says, I need to tell you a story that takes place on this river about a naked yeti that walks these rocks at dusk.
• 1:01:53
  Clay Baird: I'm over here.
• 1:01:54
Cam: Right? That's and I'm like, you've got my full attention. He said, we started making fun of him, calling him a liar, just basically being buddies, bagging on him. He said, so we get down where we're going. We get our camp set up.
• 1:02:05
Sun's going down, it's the golden hour, it's beautiful, we're cooking hot dogs, and we hear something. He said, as we turn to look, there he is the biggest, most naked man laughing, walking across the boulders, waving, just living his best life. Apparently, the guy lives down near the river and just likes to go out nude just every now and
• 1:02:28
  Kyle: again in
• 1:02:28
Cam: the evenings. Just an old hippie. Goodness. And there's the naked yeti. So let's go ahead and lighten it up a little bit with a naked guy on the river, yeti waving.
• 1:02:37
Matt Harrison: Well, Kyle and Cam, thank y'all both so much for coming.
• 1:02:40
  Cam: Having us, man.
• 1:02:41
Matt Harrison: Also, thanks to everyone that submitted these stories. Continue to submit because without you guys, we don't we don't have
• 1:02:47
  Clay Baird: these.
• 1:02:47
Cam: And they just keep getting crazier and creepier. Like, man, I feel bad for everybody that has these kind of things.
• 1:02:53
Kyle: And don't feel bad if we didn't get to your story, which we got so many. So we're here for four hours.
• 1:02:58
Matt Harrison: So Yeah. Yeah. We're do extra episodes.
• 1:02:59
  Cam: And if
• 1:03:00
Clay Baird: it didn't get to to us, tell them where they can send
• 1:03:02
Kyle: them to y'all. You could send them to expandedperspectives@Yahoo.com, or you could call our hotline (888) 393-2783. And, like, we're gonna we're gonna catalog all these stories, so maybe the next time if yours didn't get written or read on this show, then it might in the future. Feel free to send them to you, Ducks Unlimited or us because we will be cataloging them. That's how the Glimmer Man book came to be.
• 1:03:23
  Cam: Yep. That's how works.
• 1:03:24
Kyle: Just kept saving all the stories. And then one day we looked up, man, we got a 100 of these things.
• 1:03:28
  Cam: Look at that.
• 1:03:28
