- 2:23I'm Sonya with Keith Engle, Jack Hirsch, and we are here with
- 2:27this amazing show. Good morning, gentlemen.
- 2:30Again, I know we spoke backstage.
- 2:32Hope you guys are doing well today.
- 2:33Happy Friday. Good morning.
- 2:37Last Friday of June. Can't believe it?
- 2:40Wow, we are officially in summer and if you don't believe it just
- 2:45open your door. Most of the country is 90 plus
- 2:48degrees, including you Northeasterners Jack and Keith.
- 2:53We're back out of the soup in the 70° weather this last two
- 2:57days, so normal. Can you imagine someone who
- 3:01never listened to this show before?
- 3:03I had no idea and just happened to be scanning and came upon us.
- 3:08They think they were getting The Weather Channel here.
- 3:12Jackie, you weren't suspenders today, by the way.
- 3:14I don't know these. Actually, well, he's a Boston.
- 3:18Glove. OK, all right, they're out of
- 3:19the shirt now. I get it.
- 3:20I thought you had some weird suspenders then anyway.
- 3:25Well, Speaking of Heat and things that were not really
- 3:28super hot, the NBA draft beyond the first round.
- 3:32Guys, what were your first thoughts on?
- 3:35Let's go back to round one. Of course, Cooper Flag, like we
- 3:38predicted, actually did go number one to the Dallas
- 3:42Mavericks. Dylan Harper following right
- 3:44behind him at the number two spot.
- 3:47What were you guys thoughts on round one and what was the
- 3:50biggest surprise to you if there was 1?
- 3:53Well, I'll be I was just because I'll be quick because after the
- 3:571st 5 picks, I mean, if to me it's like a whirlwind.
- 4:00There's guys getting picked, but they're really picking for other
- 4:02teams. It seems like 3/4 of the draft
- 4:05is somebody picking for somebody else and and the and the guys
- 4:08and the kids ending up over there.
- 4:10We knew Cooper flag and at the 1st 5 picks we're no surprise,
- 4:13right? The order was after Cooper flag
- 4:16was to be determined, but pretty no surprise there.
- 4:23Second round kind of the same thing.
- 4:26I I thought the Pacers did pretty good with two only two
- 4:28second round picks yesterday. I thought they did pretty well
- 4:30actually. But we can talk more about
- 4:31winners and losers if you want after Jack.
- 4:33You can give your overview if you want now, because my head's
- 4:36still spinning. Good morning, Richard.
- 4:39You look at the grades, I don't know Sonia Keith, whether you
- 4:43look at the grades afterwards. Little bit.
- 4:46ESPN list the grades of each team and the Dallas Mavericks
- 4:51get AB What stupidity right down turned off.
- 4:55How would he audit? They got a coop of black that's
- 4:58an automatic A, you know, and they get AB.
- 5:02But the two things that that stand out the most to me in the
- 5:05draft that made the biggest impression and 1 is going to be
- 5:08ongoing. What's going to be the situation
- 5:11with Ace Bailey before condemning them before
- 5:14condemning them. Let's see his then issue with
- 5:18him going to Utah. There hasn't been an issue yet.
- 5:21He denies it. He didn't show up for the press
- 5:24conference, but that sometimes happens with other players
- 5:28because Utah's quite a ways away.
- 5:31And so let's hold off for the time being.
- 5:35But the eyes on Ace Bailey, what's he going to say?
- 5:39What's he going to do if he if he tells us by the end of the
- 5:43week, I'm completely committed to Utah.
- 5:45The drama's all over. He's committed to Utah.
- 5:49Nothing wrong has been done. But from Ace Bailey's
- 5:51perspective, think of it this way.
- 5:54This is a kid from Redford. He wanted to be close to home to
- 5:59his mindset. I'm going to get drafted by
- 6:02Washington, Brooklyn and the one team that he didn't care to go
- 6:06to. I can understand it being the
- 6:0876ers because he wouldn't have the same amount of playing time
- 6:12and I can understand that him nothing happy maybe going there.
- 6:17But Utah what's the excuse? He's going to be a star at Utah.
- 6:21He's he could be a star at for the Utah Jazz.
- 6:25But I can understand his mind that was he was going to go to
- 6:28the Washington Wizards and maybe the Brooklyn Nets.
- 6:32But if he doesn't go to the Utah Jazz, I want to see the Jazz
- 6:36take a stand. Don't trade him away.
- 6:39Let him sit out the year, lose the Don draft pick make a
- 6:42statement. These teams always buckle in to
- 6:46the other players, the other storyline and there were two of
- 6:49them. To me as a Nets fan, what the
- 6:51heck are the Nets doing? 4 point cards I picked and I'm a
- 6:57I'm a complete hypocrite. I don't know why I'm a hypocrite
- 7:01completely because I've always had a theory with the NFL.
- 7:04So do you like this to see? I would like to see a team one
- 7:09year who hasn't had a franchise quarterback ever draft a
- 7:14quarterback. With every single pick in the
- 7:17draft and the training camp, one of them has to emerge.
- 7:24The brown stride. They did.
- 7:26They're frying. Yeah.
- 7:27You know they were close. Eject your debt out of it.
- 7:30But that's the one thing I I I will take away from the grading
- 7:33is with Cooper flags. The by far the best player in
- 7:37the draft in my mind, the guy who finished second in the in
- 7:40the NCAA player of the year award got drafted in the second
- 7:43round to tell you that if it tells you anything at all, I
- 7:46think he's a no brainer and he's going to be good.
- 7:50The Nets just mind boggling. And as far as Ace Bailey, Ace
- 7:55Bailey is going to be a bit of a project.
- 7:57He's he's may be the rawest of the top five guys that got
- 8:00picked. He's got great talent, but he
- 8:03you know, he loses focus at times.
- 8:05And that was one of Rutgers problems this year.
- 8:08And I know his his pre draft disposition hasn't always been
- 8:12the best in a ways skipped certain things is trying to get
- 8:16himself to where he wanted to go.
- 8:18And you know, it may take a few years for him to develop.
- 8:21He may these other guys may hit the ground running a lot more
- 8:24than Ace Bailey. But I think Ace Bailey at the
- 8:26end of the day will be a really good NBA player.
- 8:29It's just you're going to be patient with them.
- 8:31But if you tell me that Dylan Harper went number two overall
- 8:35in the draft of San Antonio, Ace Bailey went, you know #5 right
- 8:40after. And they, they both were
- 8:43teammates. And Rutgers and Rutgers, you
- 8:46know, they had a losing record. Harper's a much more polished
- 8:50player than Bailey, though. Bailey was up and down.
- 8:52That was what, again, I said on the show the other night.
- 8:55How does the Rutgers coach probably got some explaining to
- 8:57do? When you get 2 of the top five
- 8:59guys in the draft, you don't finish over 500.
- 9:01But part of it is because of kids like Ace Bailey, who you
- 9:04don't know which player you're going to get every night.
- 9:06Harper's a little different. I think he's consistent and more
- 9:09ready to play at this level. And I got to ask this, I, I
- 9:13condemn people who say A-Team tanks, but are the Nets is an
- 9:18organization tanking for one year because they have their
- 9:22number one pick next year? I don't know who they are
- 9:25eyeing, you know, but it's not like the NFL.
- 9:28If you have the worst record, it doesn't mean you get the top
- 9:31pick. Look what happened with Dallas.
- 9:33A 2% chance or so we're getting the top pick and they get Cooper
- 9:37flag. So the Nets could be back,
- 9:40conceivably you in the number 8 spot next year, even tanking or
- 9:45maybe 5 or 6 not getting the player they might want.
- 9:50So it doesn't make sense to tank the season.
- 9:53But this kid from Duke, OK, I can't pronounce his name.
- 9:56The Santa Monica. Kanapo.
- 10:00Yeah, no, not Kanapo. No, no, no.
- 10:03Oh, Malaka. Malaka.
- 10:05Yeah. When #10 to Phoenix.
- 10:07The Nets could have taken them at #8 and then they could have
- 10:10picked their three-point guards after.
- 10:13I don't get all this. I just don't understand the
- 10:17sense behind, you know, some of the strategy involved.
- 10:21I mean, it's one thing that the Nets didn't trade off a couple
- 10:24of their number one picks for the future, but I just don't get
- 10:28the whole strategy involved. 4 point guards, You throw them
- 10:32together, they're going to play them all together and hope you
- 10:36know they don't do as well as they even did last year when
- 10:38they were 26 and 56 because they only have their number one draft
- 10:43pick for one more year next year.
- 10:45Then they don't have it for quite a while.
- 10:47Then Houston gets it the following year because of some
- 10:50of the wheelings and dealings the Nets have done in the past.
- 10:55Yeah. Who you tanking for, though?
- 10:57I don't know. You don't know right now,
- 10:58there's no, there's no Cooper flag.
- 11:00There will be, but there's no Cooper flag that stands out
- 11:02right now that you be tanking. So I got to go get that guy,
- 11:05right? So I want to emerge, but it's
- 11:08just a silly strategy in my mind anyway.
- 11:11Tanking. It's never it's never a sure
- 11:13thing. I'm really surprised that you
- 11:16guys and good morning again, Richard.
- 11:20I wanted to say that the let's go back for a quick second.
- 11:23The grading of some of these drafts, when you all mentioned
- 11:27that the maths got a beef for Cooper Flag, most of the the
- 11:33outlets I looked at it said A+, at least for him.
- 11:36I mean, I think from yeah, some outlets are looking at the fit
- 11:40the team overall, you know, that's what brings that grade
- 11:44down. But of course the players
- 11:46themselves are going in with, you know, A's, hobbies, what
- 11:49have you. Let's look at what you said
- 11:52though, Jack. The Brooklyn Nets had all these
- 11:55picks, five in the first round, and in fact they were doing a
- 11:59lot of finagling behind the scenes to grab even more picks
- 12:02during the draft. I saw a couple of switcheroos
- 12:05and I was literally shocked because this is a record for
- 12:10them to have first round picks. A lot of the analysts have
- 12:15looked at the shooting ability of some of their selections like
- 12:18Igor Demean and Nolan Trayor. Those those two guys in
- 12:24particular, the fact that they brought them in, what are your
- 12:28thoughts on them coming in? Because the shooting ability and
- 12:31the fit there is, is what's the issue here?
- 12:34Not necessarily, you know, the fact that they had these picks,
- 12:37but what did they actually do to develop this team about the work
- 12:40ahead for this this franchise? Well, how do they all work
- 12:44together? That's the question.
- 12:46Because they play the same type of a game.
- 12:50Yeah, overlapping skills. I mean, I can understand the
- 12:54play has one particular skill. The Lakers, for example, had
- 12:58their they sung an undrafted free agent out of Villanova
- 13:02whose one strength is he's a spot up shooter.
- 13:06If he could find a spot on the court, he's wide open.
- 13:09You get the ball from, he's a good shooter.
- 13:12So he'd be a situational player, but with the Nets, I, I just
- 13:16don't understand. It's like the Carolina Panthers.
- 13:20Your Panthers in the draft having 5 #1 picks and using the
- 13:24first four of them are running backs.
- 13:27Yeah, that'd be wild. I.
- 13:28Mean it would. It would.
- 13:29Sounds like something that chats do, but I got you.
- 13:33Exactly. You know, but I can't, you know.
- 13:37But the overlapping skills, that's the thing, how they
- 13:40complement one another. Look, maybe it works out.
- 13:43Maybe the logic is the Nets are going to have their back part of
- 13:47the future now and that's going to be that that's the players
- 13:51are going to develop over the course of the year.
- 13:53I think it's a throwaway season next season by all indications.
- 13:59I mean, quite honestly, New York, no one talks about the
- 14:03Nets. The Nets have become like so
- 14:06irrelevant. I mean, you'd think New York,
- 14:09Brooklyn is a big, big marketplace, but no one cares.
- 14:13I mean, quite honestly, if you had to rate, you know, team all
- 14:18the sports teams in order of importance, I mean, I think the
- 14:22Nets would finish behind the New York Islanders.
- 14:25They'd be last. They would definitely be last.
- 14:28I mean the range is obviously a historic and egg shells
- 14:31franchise, but I think the Nets would be last if New York had to
- 14:35vote all sports fans. What do you mean to get rid of
- 14:39who would go in the expansion trap to another city?
- 14:42I think the next would be the team that they would move on
- 14:46from. Agreed.
- 14:48They're always going to be little brother in New York City.
- 14:50They're always doesn't know how bad the Knicks are.
- 14:53The Knicks will still be more popular than the Nets.
- 14:56Yeah, even Spike Lee was at the draft last night for round two.
- 15:00He was there. I'm like, Spike is everywhere
- 15:03with the Knicks. Well, Spike wanted to see that.
- 15:05He knew they were taking somebody from France, so I'm
- 15:07surprised he wasn't in France for the draft.
- 15:09Right, he was. Literally, Yes he was.
- 15:12I could I I couldn't have picked the guy and the guy the next.
- 15:16Besides that, besides taking another Frenchman where they've
- 15:19never had any success, this guy is not even an impact player in
- 15:22France. How's it going to be an impact
- 15:24player here? What's his name?
- 15:26Franz Wyler. Whatever who they took ahead
- 15:29around our test. A French player who averaged
- 15:32eight points a game in a French league and never got on the
- 15:36Knicks roster. Why didn't the Knicks just
- 15:38played that pick? Every year.
- 15:41That was the they had the 50th pick.
- 15:43And you're talking about Muhammad Duawa.
- 15:46Yeah. Duawa Duawa.
- 15:48Duawa Duawa. He.
- 15:51Was a forex from Cloet basket in France right?
- 15:55Like who? Sure, like. 5.8 points a game,
- 15:595.5 points a game basically. I mean, the guy is you have to
- 16:04turn into an impact player in his own country, which isn't
- 16:07known for, you know, there's been some good players come out
- 16:10of France. I'm sorry, I don't mean that
- 16:12didn't mean the whole country, but Knicks have never had any
- 16:14success there. I don't know why they keep going
- 16:16back. Well, it's also worth noting
- 16:20that the Knicks actually forfeited their own second round
- 16:24pick. Let's talk about that.
- 16:25Because they tampered when they got Jalen Brunson.
- 16:30I had forgotten all about that because for, I mean, even like
- 16:35you guys said, no matter what surrounds them, the, the drama,
- 16:38this whole issue with Jalen Brunson and picking someone that
- 16:42I had never heard of before that's only scoring 5 points of
- 16:45basket. They're the beloved team of, of
- 16:48New York. So I mean.
- 16:51A lot. And we all, I tend to do the
- 16:53same thing. We all deride the second round
- 16:54of the NBA draft. It seems like.
- 16:56Who cares? We trade.
- 16:58They just traded 5 second round picks or something for Kevin
- 17:00Durant, right? We second round picks.
- 17:04There's some good players. Jalen Brunts was a second round
- 17:06pick, Jokic was a second round pick.
- 17:08There's some good players that have come out of that second
- 17:11round. Not a lot of, you know, volume
- 17:15and this year I, I think Johnny Brown is going to be a guy to
- 17:18watch out of the second round this year with the Sixers.
- 17:20I think a good spot for him, even though he's a, he's got
- 17:25first round talent in my mind and I was shocked he went in the
- 17:27second round, but I think it's a good spot for him.
- 17:30There's some value in the second round in the NBA draft, a little
- 17:33more than that seemed to be years ago, because I think teams
- 17:39need more depth a little more than they did years ago.
- 17:42As far as the way they used their benches today, I mean
- 17:46they're too many minutes that sometimes it seems to be logged
- 17:49on the scotters. Well wait till they make it 10
- 17:52minute quarters that'll they won't need all this guy.
- 17:54Yes, that's the other thing they're talking about.
- 17:57Yeah, yeah, that's they're already moving that way to
- 18:00college. Years ago, I'm, I'm saying years
- 18:03ago, they logged a lot more minutes.
- 18:05Oh. For.
- 18:06Sure. You know, they were talking
- 18:08about with Commissioner Adam Silva about the Achilles
- 18:11injuries. They've had seven Achilles
- 18:14injuries and that's a devastating injury.
- 18:17They had a seven this year and they had none last year.
- 18:20Now they're studying. Does it happen during youth
- 18:23basketball? Does that set the stage for it?
- 18:27I, I can't believe that's the case.
- 18:30I mean, I got to believe it suddenly creeps up on you, on
- 18:34you. I don't know what the medical
- 18:35science is, but it's such a bad injury, these Achilles injuries,
- 18:40because it's it's such a long rehab process and it takes about
- 18:45a year to come back from. But look, players do come back.
- 18:48Kobe Bryant came back from it. Kevin Durant came back from it.
- 18:52So a play can come back from it. But is he going to come back
- 18:56100%? Is he going to come back 85%?
- 19:00Look, look, a great play like Kevin Durant, 85% of him is
- 19:05better than the vast majority of players at 100%.
- 19:08That might not be as noticeable but but it's such a tough injury
- 19:13to come back from it. You never know.
- 19:16I ruptured my Achilles at 48. I was never the same.
- 19:19How long? Did it take for you to get back
- 19:22to normal living? Well, after rehab and
- 19:25everything, it was probably, you know, 10 months after surgery,
- 19:29you're in a cast for two months and then you start rehab.
- 19:33So I'm, but I wasn't playing professional sports either,
- 19:35right? I'm just, I wanted to get my car
- 19:37and drive my car because it was my right leg.
- 19:38So how long did? That take for everyday living to
- 19:41drive your car. Let's see, probably 5 months,
- 19:48probably four months, four or five months.
- 19:50Wow. So I'm going to tell you guys,
- 19:52That's the thing. It's it is not even though
- 19:55Achilles is devastating, it could be any foot injury.
- 19:58I had my foot surgically broken the same week that Greg Olson of
- 20:02the Carolina Panthers broke his foot.
- 20:04Mine was surgically broken because I've had some issues
- 20:07with bone spurs. Went to a bad doctor that
- 20:10treated it and and they jacked it up so I lost all the
- 20:14cartilage. The recovery was so long because
- 20:17it was my driving foot too. Had the surgery y'all September
- 20:22of of 2017, got out of the got out of the they had a soft cast
- 20:28on it. Started doing the rehab,
- 20:30developed, they call it Crips CRPS, which is an inflammation.
- 20:35Then they found out after six months.
- 20:37Y'all March of the next year I went into a regular cast because
- 20:42there was a part of it that was still not healed.
- 20:45The bone was still separated. So I had to cast 6-8 months
- 20:49later in a leg, cast a full cast and go right back to square 1.
- 20:55And this is the thing, I'm a regular person.
- 20:57I played sports growing up off and on some sports.
- 21:00But this is these are athletes. And I feel like going forward,
- 21:04Jack and Keith, they may, if this continues, especially 7 is
- 21:08a lot for one year, maybe next year, hopefully next year it
- 21:10won't be as many injuries. But say you are a regular
- 21:14player, not superstar, but you're just enough to stay on
- 21:17the starting line up. This type of injury to end your
- 21:22career, this could end you where you could never come back.
- 21:26And so I think that the league may do what the NFL is doing.
- 21:29They may start proposing special shoes or shoe inserts to
- 21:33possibly reinforce the shoes that these guys are wearing.
- 21:37You know, I don't know about all the injuries that was referred
- 21:41to earlier from this past year, but looking at Halliburton and
- 21:45Durant, these were very eerily, eerily similar injuries because
- 21:49what they they happened after really kind of ignoring, not
- 21:53ignoring, but trying to play through a calf muscle injury.
- 21:56Both of those guys had serious calf muscle injuries and try to
- 22:00play through them in the playoffs.
- 22:01Same thing happened to Durant and they rolled up their their
- 22:04Achilles after that. So ignoring another injury can
- 22:08also lead to this type of catastrophic injury.
- 22:10So. You know, kid makes a great
- 22:14point and that I didn't even think of.
- 22:18Maybe the NBA should do what the NFL does in regard to
- 22:24concussions. If a player has a concussion,
- 22:26even if he wants to play, he shouldn't be given that option
- 22:30or supposedly isn't given that option.
- 22:33They forced him to sit out, whether he likes it or not.
- 22:38Maybe if an NBA player has a type of injury that Halliburton
- 22:42had, the NBA just shouldn't allow him to play the medical
- 22:47team, no matter how much he wants to play.
- 22:49But could you imagine they had that rule and it's the NBA
- 22:53Finals and Halliburton's begging to play, and the pace of fan
- 22:58base might be outraged. Look, he says he's OK to play.
- 23:02Let him play. And you know.
- 23:05But in the case of Halliburton and Jason Tatum, I was listening
- 23:09to you, Sonia and also Keith, with the injuries, will can they
- 23:14come back next year at some point?
- 23:17If you talk about one year, can they make it back before the
- 23:19playoff? I believe Durant question.
- 23:22I feel like Durant didn't miss a full season next year.
- 23:26I could be wrong about that, but at best they're going to come
- 23:29back very, very late in the season or the playoffs, and then
- 23:32you're not in game shape because you haven't been able to do
- 23:35basketball activities all winter, right?
- 23:38So I think theoretically they could, but I don't know that
- 23:41it's likely. Even even some players.
- 23:46I mean, I was just looking here at major players.
- 23:48Dorian Finney Smith underwent left ankle surgery for the
- 23:52Lakers. He's expected to be ready for
- 23:55training camp. But he played through the
- 23:57injuries. So you have players that play
- 23:59through certain injuries that lead to worser injuries.
- 24:02But there's, yeah, there's as when it comes to the Achilles,
- 24:04you got to remember there's two different things.
- 24:05There's a tear like Aaron Rodgers had a tear and then
- 24:08there's a rupture. I ruptured mine where it rolls
- 24:11right up in the back of your leg.
- 24:12And that's the same thing that happened to Halliburton, I
- 24:13think. And a rupture is much worse than
- 24:15a tear, both rehab time and and, you know, just coming back to
- 24:23some semblance of your former self.
- 24:25So. That's got to be so painful.
- 24:26And I know they put you in an air cast.
- 24:28I actually had to wear one of those and I had a friend that
- 24:31they they have the same thing, the air cast that you pump up
- 24:34the air and. Well, they kept saying when
- 24:36Aaron Rodgers ruptured his, they kept, they kept saying he I'm
- 24:39sorry when he tore his, they kept saying he ruptured it.
- 24:41But he he was kind of putting weight on it as they helped him
- 24:44off the field. And I'm like, he didn't rupture
- 24:46it. Could you rupture your Kelly's?
- 24:47You're not standing up on it. I can tell you right now there's
- 24:50nothing there but mush. That's all.
- 24:51It would have been interesting had The Jets been in playoff
- 24:55contention. And it was a very important
- 24:58game, the last game this season, to see if Aaron Rodgers from
- 25:01September to December, he was making some noise.
- 25:06It could have just been all talk.
- 25:08But could you imagine? The Jets were right?
- 25:10Fan contention, you know, to see whether he actually would have
- 25:15tried to come back and play. That would have been wild.
- 25:18That would have that would have set a patent for athletes to
- 25:21look at. Maybe a bad patent.
- 25:24Kind of the same way in boxing when George vomited an old age,
- 25:27regained the heavyweight championship.
- 25:29Now all these old fighters, you know, mid 40s or whatever,
- 25:34thinking well if George did it, I can do it.
- 25:37Good morning school, Roy. Let me ask you guys this.
- 25:41So I noticed that, of course, talking about injuries, Joel
- 25:46Embiid is always at the forefront of this conversation
- 25:49with the 76ers. Of course, in round one, they
- 25:52picked VJ Edgecomb out of Baylor.
- 25:54Everybody's got high reviews on him.
- 25:56He was a number three pick. And in Round 2, they picked
- 25:59Johnny Broom. I actually saw that the center
- 26:01out of Auburn, they had a 35th pick.
- 26:04Do you guys think that those two picks that they brought in,
- 26:08they'll stay with the 76ers Part 1 because you know that anybody
- 26:11can move around and #2 will they be impactful?
- 26:14And what do the 76ers do with and beat?
- 26:17I mean he is like this is another season that that the
- 26:2276ers were projected to be decent and NMB goes down again
- 26:26for a significant amount of time.
- 26:29I think both these guys will have an impact.
- 26:31Whether it's right away, I don't know, but Johnny Brown broom
- 26:34will help them. I think they're not going to be
- 26:36able to move Embiid. I don't think they can move it
- 26:38with his contract in his injury history.
- 26:39I don't know how they can really move them for for much if they
- 26:42do. But there's only got to be one
- 26:44stupid owner, right? But I think Johnny Broom helps
- 26:47take a little the pressure off of Embiid and but the what's his
- 26:54Ashcombe? Ashcombe.
- 26:56VJ. Yeah, Edgecombe, I think he's a
- 26:59fine player, will help that team immensely.
- 27:02So I think, I think the Sixers had a really good draft.
- 27:06I don't know if Pegs would think the same thing, being a little
- 27:09tougher at his team maybe than I am.
- 27:10But from the outside, I watched Johnny Broome play a lot last
- 27:14year and I can tell you Auburn was a whole lot better when he
- 27:17was healthy and on the court than they were without him.
- 27:20And I think he'll be an impact player.
- 27:22You know, is he going to be a superstar?
- 27:24I'm not going to say that he'll be an impact player in the NBA
- 27:27and he'll help that team. You know, I take exception to
- 27:31what you said about Ambid, about his value.
- 27:33He'd have a lot of value to know.
- 27:35But this is the guy that's a star.
- 27:37This is the guy that's one of the best players in the NBA.
- 27:40If he's healthy, I could. Yes, he's healthy.
- 27:43You need to tell me the Timberwolves wouldn't offer a
- 27:47deal that would involve Rudy Gobert, Joe Lamb beat and given
- 27:51that, you know, a little extra on top of Go Bear.
- 27:55They'd have to. You mean to tell me the Lakers
- 27:58wouldn't give Austin Reeves and whatever else they could give to
- 28:02get Joe Lamb beat to the Lakers? After their experience with
- 28:06Anthony Davis, you think they're going to trade Austin Rivers and
- 28:08draft picks? I don't think so.
- 28:10I think and B could get moved. Don't get me wrong.
- 28:12I just don't think they're going to get much back.
- 28:15Anthony Davis was a major asset for the Lakers.
- 28:18They won a championship with them, with a great.
- 28:21Deal in the in the in in an asterisk season.
- 28:24Sorry, no. Asterisk.
- 28:26Yeah, they won an NBA chest. Playing in a bowl, the.
- 28:32Playoffs weren't cut short. But they played them all.
- 28:36It's like it's not. It wasn't real world basketball
- 28:38just wasn't, not to me. Not when you're playing in one
- 28:40place all the games. It's just different.
- 28:43And yeah, so they got that. They got a world championship.
- 28:46Oh, they did win a mid season championship too.
- 28:49Forgot about that. I don't either.
- 28:51I was being sarcastic. That was sarcasm.
- 28:54I, I feel like across all sports and this just seems to be
- 28:59something I've noticed, maybe you 2 have noticed it as well.
- 29:02Every time we have a player that is holding out for a big
- 29:07contract extension or big contract, they just they get an
- 29:11injury, then they get the money and then they're not available.
- 29:14I mean, we've seen it with that Prescott and it's no difference
- 29:17with Joel Embiid. He just signed his extension
- 29:19September of last year and they owe him a lot of money all the
- 29:24way through 2028 and a possible player option contract for the
- 29:292829 season to the tune of 55,000,000 the first season, 59
- 29:35almost 60 the 2nd 164 that 2728 season.
- 29:41And if he stays through the player option of 2829, almost
- 29:45$70 million y'all. But he's not healthy.
- 29:48Well, yeah, yeah, he hasn't been a leader either with the Sixers.
- 29:51There was discontent with the team last year.
- 29:55They would call him out a little bit for his attitude.
- 29:58Now, I don't mean to say he's a bad guy.
- 30:00I think just frustration that's in because I think for a super
- 30:04player like Joe Lambie, he badly wants to win a championship and
- 30:09he sees the team. The Sixers, not last year, last
- 30:13year they were nowhere in there, but before they just be a little
- 30:16short. They just could never quite fill
- 30:19that gap in to win the, you know, a championship, get to the
- 30:23Finals and I think it was a question of frustration.
- 30:27I mean, I'm not, listen, I'm not knocking his talent.
- 30:29He is a great player. Don't get me wrong.
- 30:31I'm not knocking his talent at all.
- 30:32He it's his health issues. And I do think he's more
- 30:36valuable to the 76ers than trading him because of what
- 30:39they'll get back for him. Yeah, and I, and in that same
- 30:45tone, I want to talk about New Orleans Pelicans.
- 30:47Of course, they picked this number seven in the round one.
- 30:50Jeremiah Fears, the power guard out of Oklahoma.
- 30:55They got another good pick in #13 that they got through
- 30:58Sacramento with Derrick Queen. And then in Round 2, they picked
- 31:02Ryan Nemhardt out of Gonzaga via trade from Washington.
- 31:07However, they've gone through front office renovations, got
- 31:10some new people in there. The fans from the Pelicans
- 31:13initially thought, OK, this means that bye, bye Zion with
- 31:17new management. But they've actually come out
- 31:19and said, or at least it's thought to be said that they're
- 31:23going to build around Zion, who we've seen be injury played.
- 31:28And I just don't know if it is this another just off putting
- 31:33year like Jack kind of referenced earlier with the next
- 31:36for the Pelicans. I mean, they're not they're Can
- 31:39you even get anything for Zion if you were to trade him?
- 31:42No, I'm. I'm.
- 31:43Just thinking of New Orleans. New Orleans, its strategy said
- 31:47they wanted Derek Quinn so desperately badly that they
- 31:52figured they couldn't get them when they go at #23 so to move
- 31:56down 10 spots to 13. They traded their number one
- 31:59draft pick last year, but they were drafting #7 So did they
- 32:06think Jeremiah Fears is going to be a superstar?
- 32:09I don't understand. Why that?
- 32:11Draft Derek Queen at #7 This way you keep your number one pick
- 32:15next year, and now you're going #13 again.
- 32:19I mean, if Derek Queen is so great, I don't get this, why not
- 32:24pick him at #7? I mean, Keith, you tell me, is
- 32:28Jeremiah Beers going to be astonished League where they
- 32:31absolutely had to take him at #7.
- 32:33No, he won't be a star. Yep.
- 32:35Again, I think he'll be an impact player in the NBA, but
- 32:37will he be a guy you want to build around?
- 32:39Probably not, but neither Zion so.
- 32:42But, but, but explain this to me, if they took win at number 7
- 32:46and they lost beers before they pick #13 which was a very good
- 32:51possibility that would have happened.
- 32:53Wouldn't have been someone at #13 who would have been just
- 32:56about as good or close to it. I, I you're giving the number
- 33:00one pick next year and the Pelicans, there's a good chance
- 33:04they're not going to be good and that pick could have tremendous
- 33:09value next year. That's going to go to the
- 33:11Atlanta Hawks now. Yeah.
- 33:13As far as your question about Fears, if they didn't get him at
- 33:1613, yes, there's probably 15 other guys just like Jeremiah
- 33:20Fears in his draft. So you know.
- 33:21What? I mean, yeah.
- 33:22So you didn't have to give up your number one pick for next
- 33:25year. So what?
- 33:26That said, the executive Joe Dumas does have a good track
- 33:30record. He's a smart basketball man.
- 33:34I mean, he's probably very confident in what he's doing.
- 33:37And that's what that's why I have a little apprehension
- 33:40because I do think Joe Dumas does get it.
- 33:44He does maybe see something. But Derek Queen has a reputation
- 33:48of being a little soft to have. Like he's great in spots, but
- 33:55you just kind of one day, is he really going to take it to a
- 33:58next level? Is he going to be?
- 34:01I don't want to see like Zion Williamson, because Zion, when
- 34:03he's on the court, is darn good when he's on the court.
- 34:07But you just don't know what Derek Quinn is going to be.
- 34:11I wonder what the Knicks would look like all those times you
- 34:14wanted them to trade for Zion Jack.
- 34:17No, no, no. It's worth a flyer on Zion
- 34:21without question. Now, Zion is a difference maker,
- 34:26a major difference maker. If he's on the court, if you're
- 34:30the next and the Pelicans call you, what can you afford to get
- 34:34for Zion I? Mean nothing.
- 34:36I'm not. I'm not trained for him.
- 34:39You wouldn't drag Mckell Bridges for Zion.
- 34:41Straight up a mixed rap. Not today, I wouldn't.
- 34:44I might have Listen you couldn't talk to.
- 34:46Landry Shepherd. You couldn't talk me into it
- 34:49like 3 years ago when we started having these conversations.
- 34:51I'm not going to do it now after he's been injured 10 more times.
- 34:54No, I again, I don't think he's going to play enough to warrant
- 34:59giving up serious commodities for him.
- 35:04Yeah, but no, Cal Bridges played really well in the playoffs.
- 35:06He's up and down, played really good defense when he needed to.
- 35:09He's this is a kid who needed, he might have needed a year to
- 35:12adjust to the next. I think he's going to be vital
- 35:16to this team come next year. I'll tell you, with the Boston
- 35:20Celtics being in the rebuild you're going to next season and
- 35:25I guess the Co favorites to go to the Finals, to the Cavaliers
- 35:29and the Knicks and the Magic a little behind them.
- 35:32The way I see it, like the old standbys, the old favorites
- 35:36always used to be like the Milwaukee Bucks, the
- 35:39Philadelphia 76ers, but they're not relevant the way they were
- 35:43before. So I guess the Knicks and
- 35:46Cavaliers going his coat favorites and like I said in the
- 35:49Orlando Magic, just like a step behind.
- 35:52Now that's the way it looks to me.
- 35:54Knicks need to strike now, this is their best chance right now
- 35:57coming up and that's why them being coachless still is dead
- 36:02scratching but. Maybe what?
- 36:04Maybe I shouldn't count out the Pacers.
- 36:07Maybe Halliburton comes back playoff time.
- 36:09They're well coached, you know, maybe they have a good season.
- 36:13They've got to sign Miles Turner, though.
- 36:15Yeah, but they're not. You can't count them out, but
- 36:18they're still not in the top three in the East right now.
- 36:21It is, I think it is the Cavs and the Knicks.
- 36:23And the Knicks have had their way with the Cavs too, in
- 36:26important games over the last few years.
- 36:29So I like the Knicks chances to get over the hump here.
- 36:32And then they got to do the right things.
- 36:35In in the terms of Spike Lee, you literally gave a a shout out
- 36:40to Spike with his Do the Right Thing memo there.
- 36:44I was kind of shocked though, Keys speaking about he.
- 36:49Doesn't need much Sonia with Spike.
- 36:51I was just thinking Can you imagine you get this wild crazy
- 36:56capriona like a Jerry Buss for example and he gets his new
- 37:01coach. Can you imagine he gets Spike
- 37:04Lee to be the head coach and Spike has a staff running all
- 37:07the basketball things. Bunch of smart assistance, but
- 37:12the entertainment things. Spike on the bench, The Knicks
- 37:15would be must see watching just to see Spike on the bench.
- 37:19And Spike would accept the job. He absolutely would.
- 37:23And Spike like a phony thing. He would love coaching, figuring
- 37:29and he would listen to his assistant coaches.
- 37:31That would be off the rails. That would be great.
- 37:34Listen with with the Not to hijack your comment, but earlier
- 37:37we were talking about Anthony Davis and his impact in LA Danny
- 37:42Fuller is a huge Laker fan and I'd love to get his opinion
- 37:45whether he thinks the overall body of work was worth it for
- 37:50the Lakers with the Anthony Davis.
- 37:52Now my point is, Keith, Keith, you win 1 championship, it makes
- 37:57it worth it. It makes it worth it even if you
- 38:02mortgage your future to an extent, you've won your
- 38:05championship. You know when the Timberwolves
- 38:07made that crazy deal? Giving up what, 9 draft choices
- 38:11for Rudy go bad that was. Insane.
- 38:13My thought was this. The Timberwolves have never been
- 38:17to an NBA Finals. If they can get to an NBA Finals
- 38:20one time because Govez a major contributor, it would have made
- 38:26the deal actually worth it. That's the thing about it.
- 38:29Success in Minnesota is not the same thing as success in LA.
- 38:34Right. But they wanted to Marcus.
- 38:36Thank you, Danny. Listen, you know 1.
- 38:40You need to kiss up I'm. Telling you we we joke about and
- 38:44you know, Sonia likes to talk about our favorite topic, Aaron
- 38:48Rodgers. I am, I'm only kidding.
- 38:50I like to talk about him. But but Aaron Rodgers won one,
- 38:58went to one Super Bowl. They won it with the Packers
- 39:01through Super Bowl MVP. You take that away from him,
- 39:04that's all we'd be hearing. Aaron Rodgers never won.
- 39:08He's not a winner, He's not this, he's not that.
- 39:10But you get it done one time. You can't take it away from
- 39:14someone. Look, Willie Mays won only one
- 39:17World Series his whole career. Hank Aaron won only one World
- 39:21Series their whole career. It wouldn't have made him any
- 39:23less great if they didn't, but at least they grabbed that one.
- 39:27Remember that series on HBO with the Lakers, with Magic Johnson
- 39:33talking to Jerry West? And Jerry West is talking about
- 39:36how tormented he is losing in the Finals.
- 39:39And Magic Johnson said, well, at least you won one.
- 39:43I think your comparisons to two of the greatest baseball players
- 39:46of all time and Anthony Davis is a little skewed actually, but.
- 39:50OK, let me throw this by you. You're correct on that.
- 39:53Let me ask you, Sonia, this current Keith, is Anthony Davis
- 39:57going to be projected to be a Hall of Famer?
- 40:00That's an interesting question, interesting question.
- 40:03You might be talking about a future NBA Hall of Famer.
- 40:06I think he's going to get that few more seasons playing really
- 40:10well. I think it.
- 40:13Gets there maybe? An honorable mention.
- 40:15It's too early. Maybe, like you said, a few
- 40:18more. Very borderline right now for
- 40:21sure. OK.
- 40:23He's got to be, he's got to have like a slam dunk of a
- 40:27performance going on through from the rest of his his time in
- 40:31the league. Honestly, like I just think too
- 40:34much back and forth with him. Yeah, it's also staying on the
- 40:38court and not being injured, and that's not necessarily his
- 40:40fault. So again, I'm not faulting his
- 40:42game, Right, But being the best, What was the term I heard the
- 40:47best? Oh crap, I can't remember the
- 40:50term the best. Something is availability.
- 40:53What? What was?
- 40:54Oh, the best part of being of Yeah.
- 40:57The ability is availability, yes.
- 40:59So. Yes, yes OK, Danny says LBJ and
- 41:04AD getting the Lakers 1 banner isn't worth the money.
- 41:08AD is not a Hall of Famer as a that's.
- 41:11A big I'm saying I agree completely with Danny.
- 41:15He's not it as of today, but he's in a great spot with
- 41:20Dallas. You know, Kyrie comes back
- 41:22healthy if AD can stay on the court and with Cooper flag and
- 41:27they have, you know, some really nice pieces on the bench that
- 41:31you know, Dallas might get. Dallas is one of the favorites
- 41:35to actually go to the finals next year.
- 41:37I know it's crazy now. Sounds crazy.
- 41:40They trade away Luca and then the following season they're one
- 41:43of the favorites. It worked out.
- 41:45Things worked out. The ping pong balls went right.
- 41:49Yeah, and like I say about all the NBA verdicts and, and what
- 41:54have you, not verdicts, but the the storylines here, the verdict
- 41:58is still out on these draft picks.
- 42:00Talking like a lawyer. I know your wife is what?
- 42:04I'm sorry, Keith. I always say the verdict is
- 42:06still out. So good luck to everybody.
- 42:08And July 6th makes the official date where we'll see where
- 42:11players land, etcetera, etcetera.
- 42:13And of course, Cooper Flag being the only the second player from
- 42:19the state of Maine that actually got drafted and played.
- 42:22There were several others. I ran through it last night.
- 42:24But he and Justice Turner in 1994 that went to the the Nets,
- 42:31the New Jersey Nets back then are only the two players from
- 42:36the state of Maine that were drafted in the NBA and actually
- 42:40played. So, and kudos to them, Let's
- 42:43switch over to some NFL news here as we wrap up our last 1718
- 42:48minutes. We're going to start with Jack
- 42:50here. Unfortunately, Jerry Philbin
- 42:52starred defensive end of the New York Jets during the 60s and 70s
- 42:56and a key member of their only Super Bowl championship team,
- 43:00Super Bowl 3, passed away a couple of days ago at the age of
- 43:0483. Cause of death was dementia.
- 43:08He actually passed on Wednesday. Jack.
- 43:11Yeah, Jerry Philpin was one of the leaders on the Jet defensive
- 43:14unit. You know, when they won the
- 43:16Super Bowl, he played from for nine years.
- 43:18He had three years of double digit stacks, which were hard to
- 43:23get at that time in the NFL. And like I said, he was just one
- 43:28of the leaders on the Jet team, one of one of the big voices and
- 43:33one of the big contributors to them winning the Super Bowl.
- 43:37And, you know, people forget, you know, with that Jet team, I
- 43:40mean, that coaching staff that they had with Walt Michaels and
- 43:44Buddy Ryan, believe it or not, be Buddy Ryan.
- 43:48Ryan, I think takes more pride in being with the Jet team than
- 43:52any other job that he had. Because when his son Rex got the
- 43:56Jet job, he said don't mess this up.
- 43:58This is my team. You know, he thought of The Jets
- 44:02as being more his team than the Bazwa.
- 44:06And Jerry Philbin was one of his guys, was one of his guys.
- 44:10And I remember Jerry Philbin, after The Jets won the Super
- 44:14Bowl, he was being interviewed the next day.
- 44:16And perhaps he took a little bit too much of a hard knock at the
- 44:20Baltimore Colts. He's saying, well, not just us,
- 44:23Kansas City and San Diego, they would have beaten them good too,
- 44:27you know, so that it, it was a high moment for Jerry Philbin.
- 44:31You know, he played at Buffalo. He was a local guy as far as it
- 44:36played at Buffalo College. I mean, so he was a local guy as
- 44:40far as New York went, New York State, you know, going from
- 44:43Buffalo to New York City to The Jets and one of these, you know,
- 44:50impactful players when he was with The Jets.
- 44:53And, you know, it's a shame when these guys retire.
- 44:56You don't hear too much from some of them later on.
- 45:00And The Jets had a really good defensive unit, you know, guys
- 45:03like Berlin did. Jim Hudson Atkinson, one of my
- 45:08favorites, Johnny Sample, you know, their defensive captain
- 45:12and good players to remember. You know, they just had that one
- 45:16big year where they won the Super Bowl.
- 45:18The next season, even though The Jets went to the playoffs, they
- 45:22were eliminated the first game, you know, against Kansas City.
- 45:26But you know, and he's the he's the second defensive end, Jerry
- 45:30Philbin recently that passed away, you know, Jim Marshall
- 45:33with the Vikings before that. And but when I think of Jerry
- 45:37Philbin, I think a little more, I don't know about you, Keith,
- 45:40of the AFL and the NFL, even though.
- 45:43Oh, absolutely. Transition to the NFL.
- 45:46All those guys who started out in the AFL, they're always AFL
- 45:51is to me, they're never NFL is Jim Marshall was an NFL 'cause
- 45:55he never played in the AFL. And it's odd that we think that
- 45:59way because the USFL guys, you know, like Jim Kelly and Steve
- 46:04Young, we don't think of them as USFL guys.
- 46:08You know, we think of them as NFL and we got to say, Oh yeah,
- 46:11they started out in the USFL. But the guys who started out in
- 46:16the AFL, we always think of them as being AFL guys and not NFL
- 46:21guys, even though they played more games technically as NFL
- 46:25as. I I would agree with it, Namath
- 46:28included, by the way, and to some of the points you're making
- 46:31earlier, Jack. I don't think until more recent
- 46:33years that defense of that Jet championship team was given
- 46:37enough credit because they were overshadowed by Namath and and
- 46:41that offense such it was a defense that wasn't a Super Bowl
- 46:44for him, that's for sure. I think.
- 46:47And I think now as they've started to pass away,
- 46:50unfortunately, a lot of those guys had like, I think Larry
- 46:53Grantham died not long ago, a couple years ago maybe.
- 46:57Yeah. And I think you start to hear
- 46:58more about that and people revisit it and they go, man,
- 47:01that was a pretty darn good, really good, actually.
- 47:05And I want. To tell you there was one part
- 47:06in the Super Bowl game that no one ever talks about, that's
- 47:10forgotten. The Colts are down 16 to nothing
- 47:14in the fourth quarter. They have this ball in the Jet 1
- 47:18yard line and they gotta score quickly.
- 47:21There's still time. You know, if they scored 16
- 47:24seven, they still maybe could get a couple of possessions that
- 47:27they'll probably need non sidekick, but there's still
- 47:30time. First down on the 1 yard line,
- 47:34The Jets stop him twice. Jerry Philbin in that defensive
- 47:38line so took him 3 plays. But imagine the time wasted on
- 47:43the goal line and that tells you a lot about Jerry Philbin in the
- 47:47Jet defense that it's, you know, 1st and goal from the 1 yard
- 47:52line and it took the Colt 3 plays to punch the ball over.
- 47:56My Al Baker was on. That was Al Baker, Ralph Baker,
- 48:01Ralph Baker. Ralph Baker was on that team.
- 48:03And interestingly, in the offseason, a lot of these guys
- 48:06still have jobs in the offseason.
- 48:08He was a teacher with my my late father-in-law on Long Island in
- 48:13the offseason. Offseason.
- 48:15Yeah. He know him very well.
- 48:17Man, that that. Can you imagine athletes today
- 48:20getting a job during the offseason?
- 48:22Think of your favorite players on the Panthestonia and one of
- 48:25them needs to get a job, you know, in the off season, you
- 48:29know, our players on The Jets today and New England.
- 48:32What? Whatever.
- 48:33Tom Brady teaching. You know, if they didn't get
- 48:38paid enough for, you know, full time, I meant they got paid
- 48:42enough for full time, but to supplement their income they
- 48:45were getting another job. There was this player 1 I think
- 48:50I know his name, but I don't want to mention his name in case
- 48:52I'm wrong, it'll sound bad. He's no be wrong, Jack, be
- 48:57wrong. You love to correct everybody
- 48:59else. Please be wrong.
- 49:01What he He applied for unemployment insurance in the
- 49:06offseason. Can you imagine your baseball
- 49:09play going to the unemployment office because you're not
- 49:12employed during your offseason? The team caught him even though
- 49:15he knew he'd get a job elsewhere.
- 49:17Technically, he was unemployed at that moment.
- 49:21Sounds like Johnny Manzel. You can say his name.
- 49:23Johnny Manzel, it sounds like. You imagine, like when Derek
- 49:26Jeter was a free agent, how fun it would have been.
- 49:28He goes to the unemployment office and I don't have a team
- 49:31now. I don't have a job right now,
- 49:34no. And I get a job.
- 49:35I won't collect unemployment. Danny's Yeah.
- 49:40Say it, Jack. We'll let you know if you're
- 49:42right. Right, right.
- 49:44You said this was an NFL player, Jack.
- 49:47No, no, a Major League Baseball player.
- 49:50Well, I don't see it. What?
- 49:52What time? Frame.
- 49:53What time frame? I am not.
- 49:55Yeah, this was. Just a decade.
- 49:57Yeah. He don't he don't listen.
- 49:59I tried to find it wrong. I could get the name.
- 50:02Wrong we want you to be wrong. We.
- 50:04Are sick of you. Criticizing everybody else sued
- 50:06for. Getting the wrong name.
- 50:08Well, the guy's probably. I wouldn't worry about it.
- 50:10Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but still.
- 50:14You're not going to be sued for that.
- 50:15You could, you could be a disclaimer.
- 50:17Don't. Know I wouldn't want someone
- 50:20saying. I'm going to collect
- 50:22unemployment, Jack. We know you get food stamps.
- 50:26It's OK. We know.
- 50:28We know you have an EBT card. It is OK.
- 50:32All right, so Speaking of unemployed, now everybody knows
- 50:38and of course, condolences to the Philbin family.
- 50:40Before we move on from that, everybody knows that Justin
- 50:43Tucker was suspended by the Baltimore Ravens, where the NFL
- 50:46has gone ahead and imposed A10 week suspension in case another
- 50:50team wants to take a gamble on him for violating the league's
- 50:54personal conduct policy. This is about all those
- 50:58inappropriate behaviors he's had with the likes of Deshaun
- 51:03Watson's references and spas and what have you.
- 51:07And shocking news that I do want to get you guys take on
- 51:13Shaquille Griffin guys has resigned with the Seattle
- 51:17Seahawks where he began his career.
- 51:20I I didn't even know he was going to come back.
- 51:23Of course, him and his brother made a big, big explosion on the
- 51:26scene because his brother was actually playing with one arm.
- 51:30What a what a a sight there. But he's the quarterback has
- 51:34signed a one year contract with Seattle starting in the
- 51:38secondary. Did you guys know that?
- 51:40I did not the I was like, when teams revisit, they go back to
- 51:44where they may have started their career.
- 51:46I think it's kind of cool. Very cool.
- 51:49I know when I'm wrong, I admit when I'm wrong.
- 51:51I do it enough. Jenny says he loves you.
- 51:54Let's talk about this. Odell Beckham Junior teasing a
- 51:57reunion with the Giants. Now y'all know he's become a
- 52:01journeyman here for quite a bit and now he's been without a team
- 52:06since December when the Dolphins released him.
- 52:09Now he's out there on social media talking about he could be
- 52:13reuniting and is interested in reuniting with the Giants.
- 52:16What are you guys thoughts on that?
- 52:18I think you don't even consider it unless the tendance is
- 52:22lacking in your. He can provide something.
- 52:25Why would you want to go back to a guy who wanted to leave you
- 52:29with a pain in the butt to you? Why would you want to bring him
- 52:32back? The same way with Jamal Adams
- 52:34with The Jets. He forced his way out.
- 52:37Now he wants to come back. I hear the same story all the
- 52:40time. I've matured, you know, I see
- 52:44things differently now. I was wrong before.
- 52:47That's fine. We forgive you, but you're not
- 52:51coming back. It's OK.
- 52:52We don't hate you. We appreciate the time.
- 52:55You had your case closed. You're not having it anymore.
- 52:58I mean, it's Odell Beckham wanting to come back when while
- 53:01he was a star, still a great player.
- 53:04No, he's at the end of the line. He wants to get a job somewhere.
- 53:07And I had happy days with the Giants.
- 53:12Now he looks back at and has all these fond memories, you know,
- 53:15with the Giants. Listen, Odell Beckham could
- 53:18always look at it this way. He forced his way out and he
- 53:22went to the LA Rams. They won a Super Bowl when he
- 53:25was with the LA Rams. Good for him.
- 53:28He's a Super Bowl champion. He can always say that.
- 53:31So good for him in that regard. Leave this giant thing along.
- 53:34The Giants aren't even going to consider unless ownership really
- 53:38wants him back. Bad enough, but ownership
- 53:40doesn't meddle with the Giants, it seems.
- 53:43Yeah, I just saw Danny's comment.
- 53:44I was going to say the same thing.
- 53:45He nobody else wants him. His career is as a the impact
- 53:49player is done. I don't remember getting on the
- 53:50field with the Dolphins last year.
- 53:52Maybe he didn't. I just don't remember it.
- 53:54But it wasn't for long. He's always getting hurt or just
- 53:58lack of focus that he never matured.
- 54:02You know, he got a little less selfish maybe, but no, you got a
- 54:08team you're trying to build something in in New York, and
- 54:10bringing him in is not going to benefit that.
- 54:14Yeah, Danny, I love the comment, by the way.
- 54:16He says Jack's never wrong, except on at home and on the
- 54:21shuffleboard court. Wow.
- 54:23And he said he's only showing interest in the ants because
- 54:26nobody wants him. When I retired, Jack and I are
- 54:28going on the pickleball tour. All right, well, that sounds
- 54:34interesting guys. I do want to get your take on
- 54:37two different coaches. Of course, the the season is
- 54:41upon us. We we get ready to start talking
- 54:43about new season NFL stuff, my favorite time of the year.
- 54:47And believe it or not, a list has already come out about
- 54:50coaches that are on the warm seat trending towards the hot
- 54:54seat if they don't perform in this next upcoming season.
- 54:57And believe it or not, one of the names that's being mentioned
- 55:00on there is the Buffalo Bills, Sean McDermott.
- 55:02I want to know what you guys thoughts are on that.
- 55:05They're basically like the Bills have to win now or they may be
- 55:09moving on from Sean. What are your thoughts on that?
- 55:13You only get so many chances. I don't.
- 55:15I, I thought Sean McDermott was in trouble a couple of times
- 55:19before this. Quite frankly, he's been very
- 55:22successful to take anything away from.
- 55:23He'll get a job probably in a minute if he got fired, but you
- 55:28only get so long to actually get over the top and win
- 55:30championships. That's just how many coaches
- 55:33hang around for 20 years and you know he's not there yet for 15
- 55:37years, 20 years in one place without winning.
- 55:40Very few. There's very few guys like
- 55:44trying to think of the Bengals coach.
- 55:46Marvin. Marvin Lewis.
- 55:48Marvin Lewis I mean, you don't get just to come back year after
- 55:50year and now so. He was there for a minute.
- 55:54Yeah, you know Marvin Lewis. It makes me think of Stephen A
- 55:59after the Bengals lost the playoff game for the up team
- 56:02time. They always get to the playoffs
- 56:04and lose. Stephen A goes on.
- 56:06Sister, brother should get fired.
- 56:09How do you call for a guy to get fired?
- 56:11I hate to call for anyone to get fired.
- 56:14You know, unless the team is really bad.
- 56:17Sean McDermott has had them up there in the playoffs every
- 56:21year. They've been consistently very,
- 56:24very good. You know what their problem is?
- 56:26The Kansas City Chiefs, that's their problem.
- 56:30There's nothing wrong with the Buffalo Bills, the Chiefs just
- 56:35with this mini dynasty who would take it up a notch.
- 56:39But I will admit, this season I don't think the Chiefs are going
- 56:42back to the Super Bowl. And if it's the boy, so it's
- 56:46between the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens have a great
- 56:50chance to cash in where Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, one of
- 56:55them could go to their first Super Bowl.
- 56:57If it's the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson and Buffalo falls
- 57:02a little short again, that is so darn frustrating, I'll tell you.
- 57:08But how do you fire the Bills if they're like 12 and five this
- 57:12year and they lose in the AFC championship game?
- 57:17Sometimes I think you just have to keep running it back if
- 57:21you're close and eventually you'll get the breakthrough, and
- 57:24that might be the case with Buffalo.
- 57:26Not a lot of patience in the NFL today, though.
- 57:29That's. Just thinking that.
- 57:31He's done that, he's been there. That or make all sports.
- 57:34I mean, you just saw what happened to Tibbs and it's the
- 57:36same kind of thing. If they decide that's as far as
- 57:39we can go, we've had our ceiling with this guy there.
- 57:43I think it's likely he will be looking for a job and they'll
- 57:46probably have some mutual parting of the ways if he were
- 57:50to fall short again this year. But what?
- 57:51But what happens to mentality is this, A coach doesn't quite get
- 57:56over the top of one job, so he gets fired and he gets a job
- 58:00somewhere else and they hire a guy, chances are, who didn't win
- 58:05somewhere else for a long time. It's like musical chairs.
- 58:09Just stay put, you know? You know who would have a lot to
- 58:12do with my decision? Josh Allen.
- 58:14If he really likes Coach McDermott a lot, stay with them,
- 58:19OK? Put your faith in Josh Allen and
- 58:22the rest of the players and you're so close to getting over
- 58:25the top. I don't disagree.
- 58:28And again, I'm not saying he should be fired.
- 58:30I just think he will be. And again, you need to have a
- 58:33better option if you say you're a fighter guy because that's as
- 58:36far as he can go. That's what the Knicks did with
- 58:38thieves. But you have nobody in line that
- 58:41will that. You can give me every any
- 58:44evidence. We'll take you any further.
- 58:46You have to have someone in line because you can't tamper with
- 58:50another. Team, well, everybody's got
- 58:52should have somebody in mind. If they're firing their head
- 58:54coach, they should. Absolutely should and we're here
- 58:57at the last minute so I'm going to wrap up this comment here
- 58:59Keith Jack always a great show Danny talks about it's going to
- 59:03be bye bye if the if Josh Allen decides to move on and and Keith
- 59:07made a good point. It is not for long lead.
- 59:09That's what the NFL stands for. And with that being said as
- 59:12well, it could be one of these situations that we're looking at
- 59:15with the Steelers if Aaron Rodgers doesn't deliver and even
- 59:18with Kyla Murray's Arizona Cardinals with Gannon out there,
- 59:21even though he's only been there one year.
- 59:24Everybody join us tomorrow morning for the the debate show
- 59:26with Jack and myself and Jay Train Joy and Keith Angle
- 59:29tonight for his shows. I'm live tonight with premium
- 59:31Proper Sports. Everyone have an amazing day.
- 59:34Enjoy this Friday, stay cool and thanks guys for a great show.
- 59:37Good day. Bye all.
