- 0:13Speaker 1: Hello, my sexy little monsters. It is La La Kent
- 0:17Speaker 1: with rand I'm super excited about today.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Today's a big day.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Today's a big day because, like you know, we like
- 0:25Speaker 1: go when we do our shit, which means like pickleball
- 0:27Speaker 1: or swim or like read a fucking book. But today
- 0:32Speaker 1: we get to do our podcast.
- 0:33Speaker 2: With a huge guest and a friend and a friend.
- 0:37Speaker 2: So let's start with a friend and a huge superstar
- 0:40Speaker 2: somebody that I know. See the funny thing is I
- 0:43Speaker 2: just worked with him and became friends through this creative
- 0:45Speaker 2: process and directed my first movie. But I really knew
- 0:48Speaker 2: about him because you are such a music aficionado that
- 0:53Speaker 2: I didn't realize like what a superstar he is until
- 0:56Speaker 2: you kind of educated.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So I'm gonna drop this yet again. You're forty eight
- 1:01Speaker 1: years old, forty.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Nine, thanks thanks for doing nine.
- 1:03Speaker 1: So like Randall's like grown.
- 1:05Speaker 2: As fuck, thanks for the mortality check.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Just so when he said to me, he was like, hey, Lala,
- 1:11Speaker 1: have you heard of this guy MGK, I was like, yes,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I'm a wild boy.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Like but here's the thing, Yes, I know machine Gun Kelly,
- 1:20Speaker 2: and I knew who he was obviously because I love
- 1:22Speaker 2: music and hip hop and all that, but I didn't
- 1:24Speaker 2: when you said to me, oh my god, he's like
- 1:26Speaker 2: dope as fuck. I was like, well, here's the thing.
- 1:28Speaker 2: He's coming onto the acting scene in such a huge
- 1:31Speaker 2: way that I was like, I am obsessed right now
- 1:35Speaker 2: to get him in this role in the movie I'm directing.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And you were like, you must do that, like and
- 1:40Speaker 2: I was like done, And then I just I knew culturally,
- 1:45Speaker 2: but then I looked at his work and this is
- 1:46Speaker 2: the best part of it all. He's a badass actor.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Like he's the real deal. So it's not like just
- 1:51Speaker 2: oh I was stunt casting and putting him in. He
- 1:55Speaker 2: is a talented motherfucker. So we got him in the movie.
- 1:58Speaker 2: He and I clicked. We had the great latest experience
- 2:00Speaker 2: and he is so talented. And then I said to him,
- 2:03Speaker 2: you know, we have this podcast. We're all stuck, and
- 2:07Speaker 2: you know what do we got to do to get
- 2:09Speaker 2: you on? So he said, just call me in and
- 2:11Speaker 2: I'm in. So I know you're excited.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm super excited because he's been doing Number One. The
- 2:18Speaker 1: first time I saw him in a movie was when
- 2:22Speaker 1: I watched A bird Box with Sandra Bullock on Netflix,
- 2:26Speaker 1: which so then I realized, like, oh my god, MGK
- 2:30Speaker 1: is in the acting scene, which is really crazy because
- 2:34Speaker 1: you see these like actors who want to turn into
- 2:37Speaker 1: musicians and vice versa, and like sometimes they kill it
- 2:41Speaker 1: and sometimes it's like, dude, stick to your day job.
- 2:44Speaker 1: MGK is just like a talented dude. He does like
- 2:48Speaker 1: the rock scene. He has this new like punk rock
- 2:50Speaker 1: ish type album that he's dropping. I may have dropped already.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I've been in quarantine, so like the only thing I
- 2:57Speaker 1: know is I got a new pickleball racket.
- 2:59Speaker 2: But EDI's like a different video like almost every day,
- 3:03Speaker 2: like you know, with different artists. Like that is the
- 3:05Speaker 2: coolest thing I've ever seen.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So the Instagram video you showed me on his ig yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 1: where he fucking just like is on FaceTime with Marilyn
- 3:14Speaker 1: Manson and he's like.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Hey, dude, like what's up? Who should I cover this week?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Because he does those songs.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So like and he covered Rihanna? Oh my god, and
- 3:24Speaker 2: does this guy get any more talented? I almost fell
- 3:26Speaker 2: out of my chair because I'm like, how do you
- 3:28Speaker 2: cover Rihanna? And boom? He knocks it out of the pope.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'm obsessed with Rihanna and when I watched the video
- 3:33Speaker 1: of his cover, I was like, damn, I kind of
- 3:35Speaker 1: like his version more.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Okay, So I want to tell you something. So I
- 3:39Speaker 2: know he's like obviously very successful superstar sells out major venues.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He comes to the movie, and I look at him
- 3:46Speaker 2: obviously as an actor, and that's what he wants to
- 3:48Speaker 2: be treated, and he jumps right into the character like
- 3:51Speaker 2: straight up, I don't want to play a stereotype. I
- 3:53Speaker 2: want to do something really awesome. I want to do
- 3:56Speaker 2: something really creative. And for me, I was like, I
- 3:58Speaker 2: hit the jackpot. So I'm looking as an actor. Then
- 4:02Speaker 2: he covers the Rihanna thing and I look on the
- 4:04Speaker 2: gram and he's got Rihanna commenting like, mak a big deal. Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 2: just like Rihanna's my friend and she just respects my work.
- 4:13Speaker 2: So I was like, thank god I didn't see any
- 4:15Speaker 2: of this shit before we hit the movie, because I
- 4:17Speaker 2: think I would have been intimidated.
- 4:18Speaker 1: No, I'm telling you, the fact that we have him
- 4:21Speaker 1: on the podcast today has been my saving grace because
- 4:23Speaker 1: let's be honest, like, over the weekend, I had a
- 4:26Speaker 1: really great time. I was like super hyped about everything,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and then Monday hits, and I'm like, oh, fuck the fact.
- 4:32Speaker 2: That you're sober eighth of the quarantine and be you know,
- 4:36Speaker 2: in life, it's your life choice. I gotta praise you
- 4:39Speaker 2: because you've got a strong motherfuckers, don't.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna be really honest, if there was somebody that
- 4:47Speaker 1: like was holding a crystal ball and they were like
- 4:50Speaker 1: a year and a half from now, La, La, you're gonna,
- 4:54Speaker 1: you know, experience this quarantine because of a virus, I
- 4:58Speaker 1: would have been like putting a pin in sobriety until
- 5:01Speaker 1: that shit is fucking done. Anyone who's sober or you know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: is getting sober, Like everyone knows about the Pink clouds.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You're like, you're obsessed with your sobriety today. I was like,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna need to like go over every step of
- 5:15Speaker 1: the program against and like really fucking dig into.
- 5:19Speaker 2: The book The Big Bug. That's really interesting because you know,
- 5:22Speaker 2: somebody obviously is not sober and been through the program.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So when you go through this pink cloud, what is
- 5:29Speaker 2: the difference between right now in the pink cloud, Like,
- 5:32Speaker 2: what is the feelings today, Like when you're having that
- 5:35Speaker 2: feeling where everybody's thrown back.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Okay, so I can. I can equate it to when
- 5:39Speaker 1: people talk about a relationship the honeymoon phase.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Perfect example, Yeah, the pink cloud.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Sobriety is like the honeymoon phase for rare us.
- 5:47Speaker 2: For six months, You're like, I have.
- 5:49Speaker 1: No problem not drinking. I'm fucking invested. I'm reading my
- 5:53Speaker 1: big book every day. And then like a year and
- 5:55Speaker 1: a half goes by and you're like, why am I
- 5:58Speaker 1: suddenly craving a bottle of rose?
- 6:01Speaker 2: This is weird, you know, And it's not easy.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's not and you have like the little the little
- 6:07Speaker 1: devil that's like drink la la, drink like you can
- 6:11Speaker 1: just have one. And then like your angel is like, girl,
- 6:13Speaker 1: we've been through this. We don't have been through this. Like, wow,
- 6:16Speaker 1: pick up your big book and read.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Bitch, I'm proud of you. I don't know. I mean,
- 6:22Speaker 2: I give you so many props. I don't want to
- 6:24Speaker 2: say I couldn't do it, but I don't know if
- 6:26Speaker 2: I could do it. And I don't think anybody I
- 6:28Speaker 2: mean meaning just the fact that the stress and pressures
- 6:32Speaker 2: of life quarantine hangbills, worrying about this, worrying about that,
- 6:36Speaker 2: the pressures of everything.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Like as fun as sobriety talk.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Is wa Was that a pivot?
- 6:43Speaker 1: That was a pivot. I'm gonna switch gears here. So
- 6:47Speaker 1: you guys, I just ordered McDonald's and it looks really good.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Shout out to McDonald's if you want to.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Know one's so discussed.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I'm not. I want to tell you something back in
- 6:56Speaker 2: the day. Yeah, back in the day. You know how
- 6:59Speaker 2: we have those Hooters cards, those Hooters, Oh, free Hooters.
- 7:03Speaker 2: You don't use yours, but we all use them. Shout
- 7:06Speaker 2: out to Hooters. By the way, Jack's hooked me up
- 7:08Speaker 2: and looked us up and you get these free food
- 7:11Speaker 2: whatever for life. Years and years ago, probably fifteen years ago,
- 7:15Speaker 2: I did a movie where McDonald's was in the movie,
- 7:17Speaker 2: really and they gave me one of those cards for life,
- 7:20Speaker 2: and I thought it was the coolest thing because I
- 7:22Speaker 2: went from like literally being broken be able to eat
- 7:24Speaker 2: a ninety nine cent Hamburger. So I had this free card.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I thought, this is worth like a billion dollars and
- 7:30Speaker 2: I lost it.
- 7:31Speaker 1: This is when you were poor.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I'm up from poor to just making like my first
- 7:35Speaker 2: couple of films, And I'm going to tell you something.
- 7:37Speaker 2: That card. When I lost it, I think I had
- 7:39Speaker 2: tears on. So I just want to shout out to
- 7:41Speaker 2: McDonald's since you did. Feel free to reach out rand
- 7:44Speaker 2: em emit films on the ig. I'm always looking for
- 7:46Speaker 2: the free shit.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Which spoiler alert now that we're talking about super healthy
- 7:52Speaker 1: food hot dog on a stick, be careful, rand we're
- 7:56Speaker 1: in so we First of all, hot dog on a
- 7:58Speaker 1: stick was my jam as a kid, and I got there.
- 8:02Speaker 1: You're really like fucking with my vibe. Okay, for the
- 8:06Speaker 1: McDonald's hot dog on a stick with my jam was
- 8:10Speaker 1: my jam? Okay. I used to go to fashion Place
- 8:13Speaker 1: small and Utah just to get one. Like, fuck the shopping,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I'm going for the cheese dog. Respect I got the
- 8:18Speaker 1: hot dog on a stick food truck for our wedding.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Oh my god? Is that is that what? I is that? What? Well?
- 8:25Speaker 2: That's what I paid for? Wait? Hold on, I have
- 8:27Speaker 2: a question. The hot dog on the stick the place
- 8:29Speaker 2: I took you the other day to the drive through
- 8:31Speaker 2: that point.
- 8:31Speaker 1: No, that's Wiener Schnitzel. That's also bomb.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Okay, this is like shout out to all faster the world.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Wait a second, So we have hot dog on a
- 8:39Speaker 2: stick at our wedding.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yes, so people get cray cray over like, oh my god,
- 8:44Speaker 1: corn dog, corn dogs, cheese dogs, cheese on a stick
- 8:49Speaker 1: and they dip it in the breading and then oh
- 8:51Speaker 1: my god, I.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Go for somebody that's going to be really, really drunk
- 8:55Speaker 2: late late night that is absorbed that alcohol right up,
- 9:00Speaker 2: and then we'll go right to the honeymoon suite and
- 9:03Speaker 2: do our marital commitment right there.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I find that really hard to believe.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Fuck you mean, I'm gonna get so drunk that I'm
- 9:11Speaker 2: really not.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Going to know my name, good old, good old Louis.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Thirteen days.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Shit, Okay, I'm transitioning out of this. We have MGK on.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I love you. I am so happy you got us
- 9:25Speaker 2: hot dog on the stick because I love a good
- 9:27Speaker 2: corn dog.
- 9:27Speaker 1: You're welcome.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I want to get right into this because I don't
- 9:30Speaker 2: want to lose any time with him, because I know
- 9:32Speaker 2: you're excited and I do. I'm gonna have to give
- 9:34Speaker 2: a major prose because he doesn't realize how badass what
- 9:38Speaker 2: the editor just sent me. I want to tell him that.
- 9:40Speaker 2: So let's take a pause, Let's go to commercial. We'll
- 9:42Speaker 2: come right back.
- 9:43Speaker 1: We'll be back with MGK. We are back, motherfuckers, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: I have the most epic guest in the world. Some
- 9:55Speaker 1: know him as MGK, but because he's my boy, I'm
- 9:59Speaker 1: just gonna call him.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Card.
- 10:08Speaker 2: We have machine on Kelly Colson, my boy, my friend Colson.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I just got to tell people something real quick. You
- 10:14Speaker 2: and I met on a movie I just directed, and
- 10:16Speaker 2: I just want to tell you something. The editor who
- 10:18Speaker 2: cut Loan Survivor for me sent me a text last
- 10:21Speaker 2: night because he's cutting your scenes right now, and he's like,
- 10:25Speaker 2: this guy is off the charts. I'm gonna screenshot and
- 10:27Speaker 2: send it to you, so you know I'm not just
- 10:29Speaker 2: hyping you up. You crushed the ship, crushed it. Ah,
- 10:33Speaker 2: Let's go, dude, let's go.
- 10:36Speaker 5: That's so sick. Shout out to everybody that ever denied
- 10:39Speaker 5: me in their movies.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, isn't that.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Such an amazing feeling? And you're like, really good, Colson,
- 10:45Speaker 1: Like Randall has shown me some of the footage and
- 10:48Speaker 1: it's fucking epic. And then the other night I was
- 10:50Speaker 1: watching bird Box and my boy pops up on the screen.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I totally forgot you were in that. Was that like
- 10:58Speaker 1: for you? What was that like being like, holy shit,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I'm going to act with Sandra bullet.
- 11:03Speaker 6: I mean, it was the sickest thing ever, La la,
- 11:06Speaker 6: until you watched the movie and you realize that I'm
- 11:08Speaker 6: in it for fifteen seconds.
- 11:10Speaker 3: But other than that, it was great, great experience.
- 11:14Speaker 5: It was, and we had actually shot so much more
- 11:17Speaker 5: for that movie.
- 11:18Speaker 6: But because of how they rearranged the order of everything,
- 11:22Speaker 6: like by putting the canoe throughout the whole movie, because
- 11:24Speaker 6: it was never actually like that, but she came in
- 11:27Speaker 6: at the last, like towards the end of the movie.
- 11:29Speaker 5: But because they narrated the canoe.
- 11:31Speaker 3: From beginning to end like.
- 11:33Speaker 6: That, a lot of the character development for everyone else
- 11:36Speaker 6: in the house got cut. But because we're looking at
- 11:40Speaker 6: Sandra bullets face the whole time, it's fucking awesome.
- 11:42Speaker 3: And Sandy's my girl.
- 11:43Speaker 6: And she also was very passionate about me not drinking
- 11:48Speaker 6: ten cups of coffee a day so she would get
- 11:50Speaker 6: be greed tea every morning.
- 11:52Speaker 3: It was very nice.
- 11:53Speaker 5: She was very concerned that my balls were not going
- 11:55Speaker 5: to be.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Of use as I got older, because.
- 11:59Speaker 6: I was going to I don't know, I don't know
- 12:01Speaker 6: if the coffee like jitters around that's.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Amazing, like lowers the sperm count.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Sperm count too much. Or something, but she was very
- 12:08Speaker 6: very very nice and uh and encouraged me to you know.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Drink green tea instead.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Situation growing.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you're already the most favorite guest I've ever had.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I want to say something, Colson. I want to tell you.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I promise you nothing, not one frame of film's gonna
- 12:23Speaker 2: be cut out of our fucking film because you're just
- 12:25Speaker 2: too epic period. So I give you.
- 12:27Speaker 6: You know, I'm just for the I'm just for the
- 12:29Speaker 6: art man, I'm sign stug whatever, whatever you use, I'm with.
- 12:32Speaker 3: But it also helps that.
- 12:33Speaker 6: You invite me over to Mark Walbert's house and we
- 12:35Speaker 6: have a fucking amazing Sunday like two days ago.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I was, by the way, epic day. Epic day.
- 12:40Speaker 1: We're so weird for me because like I grew up
- 12:43Speaker 1: in Utah and like Colson, I've been obsessed with your
- 12:46Speaker 1: music for a really long time. And then I look
- 12:49Speaker 1: at my movie producing fiance and he's like, hey, like
- 12:53Speaker 1: MGK is gonna come over and I'm gonna take him
- 12:55Speaker 1: to Wahlberg's house. I'm like, what the fuck is this life?
- 12:57Speaker 1: What is happening right now? So I was stoved, you
- 13:01Speaker 1: guys to meet meet Wahlberg and do do the business.
- 13:04Speaker 6: It was so cool they wouldn't let my Harley inside
- 13:08Speaker 6: his community.
- 13:09Speaker 3: For those out there.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Listening, if you've ever I mean, we've seen some nice communities,
- 13:14Speaker 6: but very rarely have you ever seen a community that
- 13:17Speaker 6: they won't even.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Let you bring a motorcycle in because the noise is just.
- 13:20Speaker 6: They just paid way too much money for Randy with
- 13:22Speaker 6: that peasant noise.
- 13:25Speaker 3: I had to leave my bike out.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Randy gave me a gave me a ride and his
- 13:29Speaker 6: fucking chopped top, fucking phantom rolls.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Royce, fuck Matt mac gray with the Red Interior.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Star Wars crap that he had.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Right, So I have a question for you. So, my
- 13:44Speaker 1: most memorable song when you like stepped into the scene
- 13:47Speaker 1: was obviously with Waka Flakka, who I'm obsessed with wild Boy.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Was that like the song that kind of changed your
- 13:56Speaker 1: life pretty much? Or like, was there like film in
- 14:00Speaker 1: on that?
- 14:00Speaker 6: So I had about three or four mixtapes out prior
- 14:04Speaker 6: to that where people pretty much only in areas like
- 14:08Speaker 6: Utah or Ohio or Kansas or Minnesota, like that was
- 14:12Speaker 6: kind of the only buzz that I had was kind
- 14:15Speaker 6: of just in like the the C and B States.
- 14:19Speaker 3: And then Wild Boy dropped.
- 14:21Speaker 5: And I mean the thing about wild Boy was that
- 14:24Speaker 5: that was out.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Fourteen months before it ever started getting heard on a
- 14:28Speaker 6: national level, So it was kind of like, I mean,
- 14:30Speaker 6: we were doing like mini van runs across the country,
- 14:34Speaker 6: going to any radio station I would listen to us,
- 14:36Speaker 6: take us in. Also the word I mean that for
- 14:39Speaker 6: those who don't know, the song says the word bitch
- 14:42Speaker 6: like eighty fucking.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Five times, you know, So it wasn't not not.
- 14:46Speaker 7: Bitch in a derogatory way, but it was just it
- 14:48Speaker 7: just like yeah, bitch, yeah, bitch yeah, like.
- 14:50Speaker 1: In a high sea way. It was like the hype music.
- 14:52Speaker 3: And hype way. Yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 6: So it wasn't the easiest fucking song to pitch, you
- 14:56Speaker 6: know what I mean at all, So it's go a
- 15:00Speaker 6: long time to catch. Thank god, the youth embraced it
- 15:03Speaker 6: and like ran it up and me and Walker are
- 15:06Speaker 6: still great friends. I actually just ran into them in
- 15:08Speaker 6: Oklahoma City in a fucking parking lot, which is the
- 15:11Speaker 6: most random thing ever.
- 15:12Speaker 2: And then uh yeah we had a crazy night.
- 15:15Speaker 6: We went out, had a crazy night.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Oh I love yeah, wo Boy, wild Boy.
- 15:19Speaker 6: I always got love for that one. That was my
- 15:21Speaker 6: first my first big one, where are you from in Utah?
- 15:24Speaker 3: Your state's very strict.
- 15:26Speaker 1: You want to know what people say that, but they're
- 15:29Speaker 1: like totally down for you to like get abortions or
- 15:32Speaker 1: like marry your gay lover, like they're Utah is pretty progressive.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you something.
- 15:38Speaker 6: If you're at a club and you ask for more
- 15:40Speaker 6: than one shot of liquor, you ain't getting that so
- 15:44Speaker 6: kind of but.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Colson, that's only that's only because they want a tax.
- 15:48Speaker 1: They want to make all the money they can off
- 15:51Speaker 1: that one fucking bottle, So they're like, it's not really
- 15:53Speaker 1: about how much you're drinking. It's like if we're giving
- 15:56Speaker 1: them a shot, like that's all they're getting unless they
- 15:59Speaker 1: want to pay for more. So they're they're just like
- 16:02Speaker 1: trying to milk us for all our dough. Anyway, my
- 16:06Speaker 1: next question for you.
- 16:07Speaker 5: As the United States of America, ladies, right exactly milking
- 16:12Speaker 5: us for all our.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Dough since the day we were born, that is correct.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And then so were you already signed to Innerscope and
- 16:21Speaker 1: bad Boy before like when when wild Boy dropped No.
- 16:26Speaker 5: No, I was still I was still independent.
- 16:28Speaker 1: You were still independent, and then after that it was
- 16:30Speaker 1: like everyone was on your jock.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Well, you know what's funny is that that the first
- 16:34Speaker 6: person that ever reached out to me and pulled up
- 16:36Speaker 6: on me when I was when I started kind of
- 16:39Speaker 6: blow up was Juicy J and f yes, like I
- 16:44Speaker 6: was remember you remember.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Talking about the La Mantros.
- 16:47Speaker 6: Yeah, Juicy J my first week of ever coming to
- 16:50Speaker 6: La actually pulled up to the La Mantros to my
- 16:53Speaker 6: room with a fat bag of weed and was like,
- 16:55Speaker 6: hey man, you know the best part of Cali is
- 16:58Speaker 6: the fucking weed.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Like, you're new out here, got to smoke you out.
- 17:01Speaker 6: So he smoked me out and we did a song
- 17:03Speaker 6: together that was called Inhale and he starts his verse
- 17:06Speaker 6: off saying, yeah, yeah, call me something, and then my.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Verse starts off, yeah, bitch, yeah, bitch, call me Steve O,
- 17:13Speaker 5: I'm a wild boy, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, just like kind
- 17:15Speaker 5: of like an.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Ode to the whole jackass thing.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Wow.
- 17:18Speaker 6: And then my friend came in and this is when
- 17:20Speaker 6: we were living. I was living on my friend's couch. Actually,
- 17:22Speaker 6: so after after my after the label was done, like
- 17:27Speaker 6: courting me to sign to them.
- 17:29Speaker 3: As soon as I signed them, they were like Okay,
- 17:31Speaker 3: good luck fucking bye.
- 17:32Speaker 6: So I went and was I was living on my
- 17:33Speaker 6: friend's floor in North Hollywood and we were using his
- 17:37Speaker 6: studio and I'll never forget did my friend walked in.
- 17:40Speaker 6: He's like, hey, I had these producers sample.
- 17:42Speaker 3: That one line that you said, and I think it.
- 17:44Speaker 3: I think it could be something.
- 17:45Speaker 6: And he played it for me and it was like
- 17:47Speaker 6: a whole new beat and its sampled that yeah bitch,
- 17:49Speaker 6: yeah bitch.
- 17:50Speaker 5: So it was it's kind of a weird journey with
- 17:52Speaker 5: that song.
- 17:53Speaker 6: It was like, wow, it was a round even longer
- 17:55Speaker 6: than the actual song.
- 17:56Speaker 1: That's insane. I love that story because I'm I'm like,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm a rap head, you know. Like while most of
- 18:02Speaker 1: my friends were going home and watching Disney Channel, I
- 18:05Speaker 1: was like watching be E T with AJ and Free,
- 18:08Speaker 1: you know, and like listening to the AJ and Free Yes,
- 18:13Speaker 1: they were so hot in gangster and I was like
- 18:15Speaker 1: listening to ghetto boys. So what I you know, a
- 18:18Speaker 1: chick from Utah here is that this guy from you know,
- 18:21Speaker 1: Ohio is like making moves in the rap industry and
- 18:25Speaker 1: he's like this tatted up white boy and you go
- 18:28Speaker 1: so hard, Like that story is really amazing. That it
- 18:30Speaker 1: started that ny.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Wow wow, Like you were like, you're like a little encyclopedia.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I'm impressing you.
- 18:38Speaker 6: You know what's cool is that I thought I was
- 18:40Speaker 6: gonna come on the phone and.
- 18:41Speaker 3: That you were gonna fucking hate me, oh.
- 18:45Speaker 6: And be super judgy, And here you are the coolest
- 18:49Speaker 6: person ever.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Oh You're so sweet. No, dude, I'm telling you, I've
- 18:52Speaker 1: been listening to like all of your songs on repeat
- 18:55Speaker 1: since I found out that you were going to do
- 18:57Speaker 1: our podcast. I was like, it was so nostalgic for me.
- 19:00Speaker 2: No, Colson, I swear to you. She's known your music.
- 19:03Speaker 2: She's a huge hip hop fan and in every level
- 19:06Speaker 2: of music, whether it's whatever, she's just very, very like
- 19:11Speaker 2: in the know. And I feel like I'm eighty five
- 19:13Speaker 2: years old right now.
- 19:15Speaker 1: You're almost eighty five.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Slow the fuck down.
- 19:17Speaker 6: Well, not well, but well speaking, you're definitely not. Because
- 19:20Speaker 6: my twenty fucking three year old friend from Florida reached
- 19:24Speaker 6: out and he was like, Hey, my friend Randall wanted
- 19:26Speaker 6: to see if you get in this fucking movie.
- 19:28Speaker 3: So I'm sitting here like, how the fuck do you know?
- 19:30Speaker 5: How do you have so many ties?
- 19:32Speaker 6: Oh?
- 19:33Speaker 2: And by the way, his friend his friend. So I
- 19:36Speaker 2: become like, kind of I love people that just have
- 19:39Speaker 2: so much talent and things that I don't have talent.
- 19:42Speaker 2: And I'm from Miami and his friend is from Florida
- 19:44Speaker 2: and who I've gotten to know and is one of
- 19:46Speaker 2: the best wakeboarders in the fucking world. And then I
- 19:49Speaker 2: realized they're friends. And I started obsessing about getting you
- 19:53Speaker 2: calls in this movie. And I'm like, fuck the agents,
- 19:55Speaker 2: fuck the lawyers. I'm going to everybody he knows that
- 19:59Speaker 2: I'm associated with. And I was like, could you please
- 20:01Speaker 2: call him? Sending the script? It's the best role ever.
- 20:04Speaker 2: And next thing I know, you know, he says, I'll
- 20:07Speaker 2: do the deal, I'll come out and and that's it.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Rest is history, dude.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I'm so hyped about it. And then like, how did
- 20:14Speaker 1: you Were you just like boarding quarantine? I've been cyberstalking
- 20:17Speaker 1: you as well. Were you just like boarding quarantine? And
- 20:21Speaker 1: you were like, oh, ship, hold on, we lost him.
- 20:23Speaker 1: We got to get him back on the phone.
- 20:25Speaker 2: We got him home.
- 20:26Speaker 1: He said, he asked us, do you have faith that
- 20:27Speaker 1: my phone will stay alive? And we were like, we
- 20:29Speaker 1: you have faith. Okay, let's let's let's take a break,
- 20:32Speaker 1: take a break, get him back.
- 20:33Speaker 2: We'll get him right back. All right, we got cols.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I got my phone died.
- 20:41Speaker 5: You know, when you're you're smoking, you can't just like
- 20:44Speaker 5: sit still.
- 20:44Speaker 3: So I was sitting by the charger, but then I
- 20:47Speaker 3: started smoking.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I was like, I got you're smoking csen a cigarette
- 20:50Speaker 1: or some some hell.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Backward right now?
- 20:55Speaker 1: Oh well back was how gangster of you.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Fucking looking at my neighbor's house. He can't he can't
- 21:02Speaker 3: stand me. He he doesn't know that we know that.
- 21:04Speaker 3: He does a podcast about us.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's some tea.
- 21:09Speaker 3: He doesn't know that. It'll it'll turn into neighbors real quick.
- 21:12Speaker 3: But I'm I'm gonna be Zach Effron.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Oh ship, if.
- 21:17Speaker 1: You'll do that, please invite us over.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Yeah, we want to watch watch that ship front row. Yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 2: let me tell you something. Anybody to fuck with you
- 21:24Speaker 2: as your neighbor, they got to be an idiot, straight up.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Oh you gotta be. I have the most energy in
- 21:30Speaker 5: the world for that type of activity.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I'm good, I'm good to go.
- 21:33Speaker 5: I'm I'm I'm I'm Tom Petty.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Oh I love it. I fucking love it.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Petty and all caps fucking uh.
- 21:41Speaker 5: You know what's funny.
- 21:42Speaker 6: I was gonna say, So how we had met was
- 21:45Speaker 6: through my friend Steele down in Orlando, who's who's a
- 21:48Speaker 6: wakeboarder his house actually who I've stayed.
- 21:54Speaker 5: There many times. Like it's one of those places where
- 21:56Speaker 5: I have, like the tour bus.
- 21:57Speaker 6: If we're going through I'll always book like an off
- 21:58Speaker 6: day in between shows and Florida and we'll always take
- 22:01Speaker 6: the tour bus to his house.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Oh that's so dope. I'll never forget.
- 22:04Speaker 6: One time we had a show in Orlando and we
- 22:06Speaker 6: went to his afterwards and we kind.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Of brought whoever was their back, so it was just.
- 22:10Speaker 6: Like a concert full of people back in his house.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I'm like, shit, never forget.
- 22:15Speaker 6: There was someone's mom there, come on, and like it
- 22:18Speaker 6: was like a girl and her mom, and the mom
- 22:21Speaker 6: was full on mom, like I'm talking about grandma mom.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Though, you know, like but was she fine in her sixties?
- 22:29Speaker 3: And I like, was it?
- 22:31Speaker 5: We were all just drinking and the kids whatever. And
- 22:32Speaker 5: I looked over and I'm like, dude, whose fucking mom
- 22:36Speaker 5: is this?
- 22:36Speaker 2: You know what I mean? And wow, wow my mom?
- 22:39Speaker 5: Wow so uncomfortable.
- 22:44Speaker 6: And he has he had those boats and so we
- 22:46Speaker 6: took one of the boats out and I'll never forget.
- 22:48Speaker 5: I was like, dude, we can't.
- 22:49Speaker 6: I'm not fucking like we're not taking Your mom's not
- 22:52Speaker 6: getting on the boat, like like you.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Shut it down, dude, that's amazing.
- 22:55Speaker 6: She was like twenty five years old. I'm like, dude,
- 22:57Speaker 6: why is your mom here? Like this is so weird,
- 22:59Speaker 6: Like we had to leave the mom at the doc.
- 23:01Speaker 7: No.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I bagged my mom around like she's a fucking shihuahua, Like.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Colson, I have this problem. I want to talk to
- 23:06Speaker 2: you about it privately. She brings her mom.
- 23:08Speaker 6: Yeah, don't make me, don't make me cut you bring
- 23:11Speaker 6: your you're you're a mom, bring her kid, yes, everywhere.
- 23:13Speaker 1: But you're my fiance, Like didn't come on family vacation.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I'm not taking her to the club with me or
- 23:18Speaker 1: the like MG.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Cave YouTube the club very odd. This wasn't where your
- 23:23Speaker 2: mom should be. You know, your mom should be at
- 23:25Speaker 2: the end the.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Morning that this was.
- 23:26Speaker 5: It's twelve thirty in the morning, I just finished a show.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Let's all go rage.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Let me tell you say, I love her mom because
- 23:33Speaker 2: she's like my mom and she's been there for me.
- 23:35Speaker 2: But her mom would not show up at the after
- 23:37Speaker 2: hours party at four in the morning, So that that
- 23:39Speaker 2: that we definitely have the boundary save.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Randall good say, I didn't want to pull out my
- 23:44Speaker 1: fucking machete on you today.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Hold on, I have a question, Coulson, real quick, have
- 23:48Speaker 2: you so so when you've seen Steele how sick live
- 23:52Speaker 2: in person? Is he as a wakeboarder when you see
- 23:54Speaker 2: him do those tricks? Is it out of control?
- 23:56Speaker 6: One time I was drinking a beer while I was
- 23:59Speaker 6: on the wakeboard and he was riding next to me
- 24:02Speaker 6: on his wakeboard, and he like signaled like throw it up,
- 24:07Speaker 6: and so he carved out and then came back into
- 24:10Speaker 6: the wake jumped up in the air, did a flip,
- 24:14Speaker 6: and I threw the can of beer up to him
- 24:17Speaker 6: mid air. He caught it and is drinking it by
- 24:20Speaker 6: the time he lands back.
- 24:22Speaker 2: No, he is a superstar. That is unfucking believable. That
- 24:26Speaker 2: is sick. I told you, Dab he this kid is
- 24:30Speaker 2: like the superstar of weightboarding.
- 24:31Speaker 6: But what's most important about him is that he has
- 24:34Speaker 6: an insane amounts of useless talents that he's just so
- 24:39Speaker 6: fucking good at. Like you can go to his Instagram
- 24:41Speaker 6: and just watch him do things like like he he
- 24:46Speaker 6: did this one thing where he sets up three buckets
- 24:48Speaker 6: of water and uh he essentially like walks on water
- 24:52Speaker 6: like with the tip of his toes like three times.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Yeah, And it's a it's just a it's a very
- 24:56Speaker 6: hard feat and no pun intended, but just it's it's
- 25:00Speaker 6: at whatever.
- 25:00Speaker 3: And uh.
- 25:03Speaker 6: Also it's like he's one of those guys where I
- 25:05Speaker 6: have a very big ego when it comes to ping
- 25:07Speaker 6: pong and you can't find I don't think anyone can
- 25:10Speaker 6: fuck with me on the table.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Let me, let me get my shirt off.
- 25:15Speaker 6: I hear Drake and and now I hear about to
- 25:19Speaker 6: be both of you over there probably about the chime
- 25:21Speaker 6: in and say, oh you can't beat me at ping pong.
- 25:23Speaker 6: I will fuck anybody up on the ping pong table,
- 25:26Speaker 6: but I'll put.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Any amount of money on it. I don't care. But
- 25:29Speaker 5: but Steele, I had that attitude going into his house.
- 25:33Speaker 7: And this is right when we first met, and this
- 25:36Speaker 7: that this almost could have been the downfall of our
- 25:37Speaker 7: friendship because I almost never could be friends with him
- 25:40Speaker 7: because five minutes after meeting him, he beat my ass
- 25:43Speaker 7: and ping pong so badly I've never seen someone hit
- 25:46Speaker 7: with such speed and accuracy and be such an asshole
- 25:50Speaker 7: while doing it.
- 25:51Speaker 3: It's it was so it was yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 5: So but other than him, I'll take on anybody else.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Okay, fine, Well, do you have peing one table at
- 25:58Speaker 2: your house?
- 25:58Speaker 5: No, it's in my soul to hold on.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I want to say something because Colson crushed it on
- 26:04Speaker 2: my movie and came for basically, you know, for the
- 26:07Speaker 2: love of the film, I am going to order you
- 26:09Speaker 2: a ping pong table ship it to your fucking house.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Yeah, let's go.
- 26:15Speaker 2: That's what I'm fucking doing, the ping pong table today.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That's gangster.
- 26:22Speaker 5: I love that fucking go. That is the hardest gift.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Thank you, Matt, done, I love you. Okay, last couple
- 26:28Speaker 2: of things. Tell me about the two movies. Because I
- 26:30Speaker 2: saw you in Dirt. Many people saw you in Dirt.
- 26:33Speaker 2: How was that experience? Obviously playing musician, but you're a
- 26:36Speaker 2: real actor. So what was the experience? What was good?
- 26:39Speaker 2: What was bad? What was great? Because you fucking crushed
- 26:41Speaker 2: that movie.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Oh man, I had a some of the best times
- 26:45Speaker 6: of my life on that movie. I think one important
- 26:48Speaker 6: aspect was that we went down there a month early
- 26:53Speaker 6: to all become a real just band together and you
- 26:58Speaker 6: know which which incorporated just the first night, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 6: the Jeff Tremaine, who directed the movie, was like, we
- 27:03Speaker 6: we all got to go out to a bar and uh,
- 27:06Speaker 6: we took these shots that had like little plastic like
- 27:11Speaker 6: army figures in them or like or something or something
- 27:14Speaker 6: that and whatever.
- 27:15Speaker 3: In our goal for the whole month before we start
- 27:17Speaker 3: filming the movie was like who could collect the most
- 27:19Speaker 3: of those figures?
- 27:21Speaker 6: Shit, So we had to go and drink and so
- 27:23Speaker 6: like obviously you're just bonding through all these things where
- 27:25Speaker 6: like we're playing the Motley Crew. Our first night that
- 27:27Speaker 6: we go out together and we drink, we like walk
- 27:29Speaker 6: past the whole like Jesus is real signs for the
- 27:33Speaker 6: big mob of people like for it.
- 27:34Speaker 3: And we just took a picture with them in front
- 27:36Speaker 3: of the throw.
- 27:36Speaker 5: It was just all it was. It was just it
- 27:38Speaker 5: was just a it was a Motley cru bro.
- 27:41Speaker 3: It was crazy, it was. It was a wild fucking time.
- 27:43Speaker 2: That that honestly, I swear to you that that whole
- 27:46Speaker 2: bonding thing and a cast coming together in the special
- 27:49Speaker 2: kind of movie like that how to be magical. That
- 27:50Speaker 2: just had to be really, really cool almost like you
- 27:53Speaker 2: can't even describe, you know what I mean. You're trying,
- 27:55Speaker 2: but but unless you're there, it's just one of those
- 27:58Speaker 2: rare moments in life that you'll probably have with you forever.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Right cool?
- 28:01Speaker 5: Yeah, agreed, And they're still great friends of mine to
- 28:04Speaker 5: this day.
- 28:04Speaker 3: So it's really cool.
- 28:06Speaker 2: And did you go to Sundance when your other movie
- 28:08Speaker 2: made it into the Sundance which is gigantic? Did you
- 28:10Speaker 2: experience that whole Sundance thing?
- 28:12Speaker 4: Oh?
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and me and Pete went to Sundance together.
- 28:18Speaker 5: I think we ate, we ate a bunch of mushrooms and.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Once of a premiere and well and there, Yeah, it was,
- 28:25Speaker 6: it was, It was awesome.
- 28:26Speaker 2: I just want to say for people that don't know,
- 28:27Speaker 2: because I've been to Sundance twenty years in a row,
- 28:29Speaker 2: I've probably had ten or twelve thirteen movies in the
- 28:32Speaker 2: festival and Lala, you had your first movie in the
- 28:34Speaker 2: festival this year. Yeah, it is such an epic experience,
- 28:38Speaker 2: especially when it's your first or second time. Will never
- 28:40Speaker 2: be the same. So mad respect because to have a
- 28:43Speaker 2: film in Sundance.
- 28:44Speaker 1: That's a hard film festival to get into, you.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Very heart, it's the hardest in the United States. I
- 28:48Speaker 2: mean it's number one, so yeah, sure that's giganty dude.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I'mgk. I'm so happy to see you still killing the game.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And I love your little Quarantine videos. I shouldn't call
- 28:57Speaker 1: them little because you know, no the deal. You're like
- 28:59Speaker 1: asking Marilyn Manson who you should cover, and you fucking
- 29:03Speaker 1: do Rihanna, who I'm like a huge diehard Rihanna fan,
- 29:07Speaker 1: and listening to your I was telling Randall, I was like, damn,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I think I like his version a little bit more tunes.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Wow. I love the fact that Rihanna comments on the page.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I'm like, God, this guy. I thank god I didn't
- 29:20Speaker 2: know all this shit, because I think I would have
- 29:21Speaker 2: been overwhelmed Colson had I known, you know, yeah, the level,
- 29:24Speaker 2: but I meand but he came. I just got to
- 29:27Speaker 2: say this last thing when you came to the set
- 29:29Speaker 2: and we met, and we met in the wardrobe trailer,
- 29:30Speaker 2: and you're like, fuck all this. I want to go
- 29:33Speaker 2: against type. I want to do something fresh and original.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I didn't come here to do the stereotypical role. I
- 29:38Speaker 2: was like, this guy's really in it to win it.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I mean, that's how mark as you know Wahlberg. You
- 29:44Speaker 2: know that's that's how like the best actors in the
- 29:46Speaker 2: world approach it. And I know you have that special thing.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And I'm not just blowing your spot up. You know
- 29:51Speaker 2: how I really feel. And I'm just proud to have
- 29:53Speaker 2: you as a partner in this movie.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Hey man, I appreciate it. You know what. It's It's cool.
- 29:59Speaker 6: I fucked with you so hard when I met you
- 30:01Speaker 6: because I went again. You walked into the wardrobe trailer,
- 30:04Speaker 6: and I told you I had just had this gnarly
- 30:07Speaker 6: argument on the plane getting there, like missed my flight
- 30:10Speaker 6: even though I was on time, sitting next to the gate.
- 30:12Speaker 3: My dumbass just forgot to.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Get on the plane, I swear to God.
- 30:17Speaker 6: And so but I ended up getting there, Uh in
- 30:20Speaker 6: time for the wardrobe fitting.
- 30:21Speaker 3: I walked in.
- 30:22Speaker 6: Uh, the lady had like twenty options of the exact
- 30:26Speaker 6: same outfit. I hated it, and Uh, I had asked
- 30:30Speaker 6: to meet with.
- 30:31Speaker 5: You and you walk in, and I was frustrated.
- 30:36Speaker 6: I was trying to suck it up, and I just
- 30:38Speaker 6: told you what I was frustrated by. I really wanted
- 30:40Speaker 6: to push it, not be just something the ordinary, and
- 30:42Speaker 6: took all the wardrobe if she fucking squeaking off the
- 30:46Speaker 6: hangar and threw it on the fucking ground.
- 30:48Speaker 2: I said, we're done all this shit.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Was like, all right, bet, whatever you want, however.
- 30:52Speaker 3: You want to play it.
- 30:52Speaker 2: And uh, I said, you're inspired by True Romance, soul am.
- 30:55Speaker 2: I got in the movie business. That's one of the
- 30:57Speaker 2: films that I live for. And you lived.
- 31:00Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly. We watched the True Romance scene.
- 31:01Speaker 6: I said, this is a fucking care this is this
- 31:03Speaker 6: is this is a character like we need to make myself.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate you for letting me express my artistry. Though.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah when you when you said that, I just knew.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I said, Wow, he's a real fucking artist. He didn't
- 31:12Speaker 2: come here to play, he came here to do the
- 31:14Speaker 2: work and whatever. And then the next day we found
- 31:16Speaker 2: all types of cool ship that you loved, I loved,
- 31:19Speaker 2: and we went out and did it. So I am
- 31:21Speaker 2: grateful and thankful and I thank you for coming on
- 31:24Speaker 2: here today.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, coolson, like you really rock my fucking world.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Dude for taking the time out of your day to
- 31:29Speaker 1: do this, I'm really appreciate it.
- 31:30Speaker 5: Thank you, Thank you guys, thanks for having me on.
- 31:32Speaker 1: All right, i'll slay the day.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I'll call you when the ping pong table gets there.
- 31:35Speaker 3: All right, Thank you dude again, thank you?
- 31:37Speaker 2: All right, what a fun day.
- 31:42Speaker 1: It almost like makes me just want to like go
- 31:46Speaker 1: over to his house and just like be a fly
- 31:48Speaker 1: on the wall because he just seems like he has
- 31:50Speaker 1: such passion for not only his art, for life, but
- 31:54Speaker 1: just life.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, like having him talk about the ping
- 31:58Speaker 1: pong thing like something so small, he was like so
- 32:01Speaker 1: passionate about it.
- 32:02Speaker 2: But that's but I think that's just being an artist,
- 32:05Speaker 2: you know, And I think people, I just think people
- 32:07Speaker 2: have to remember, whether you an artist or not, that
- 32:09Speaker 2: you have to love life and it gets hard and
- 32:12Speaker 2: it sucks sometimes and there I remember when I couldn't
- 32:16Speaker 2: even pay the bills or I'm so behind, but even
- 32:19Speaker 2: in that, I was still optimistic. And I think this
- 32:21Speaker 2: is just such a good energy to remember that, you know,
- 32:26Speaker 2: we just got to fight for what we believe in
- 32:28Speaker 2: and fight to love life and not get so down
- 32:31Speaker 2: when the world feels like it's ending, which.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Well yeah, because when you know, like when I first
- 32:36Speaker 1: started listening to his music, and you know, you look
- 32:39Speaker 1: at him and where he's from, and you see someone
- 32:42Speaker 1: who's not your typical like rap artist and the battles
- 32:47Speaker 1: and you know, uphill battles that he probably had to face,
- 32:51Speaker 1: and then being a you know, making it in the
- 32:54Speaker 1: rap world and then wanting to explore doing movies. It's
- 32:58Speaker 1: just like it's really inspired to watch people like him,
- 33:02Speaker 1: you know, and.
- 33:03Speaker 2: You know, he has so many similarities like Mark and
- 33:05Speaker 2: I were talking about at Wahlberg. We were saying, like
- 33:08Speaker 2: Mark came from music, Mark transition.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Because because those two had a meeting the other day
- 33:13Speaker 1: or something like just to like, hey, what's up, and
- 33:15Speaker 1: they bonded over like where they come from and similar background.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I think their upbringings were very similar. They grew up
- 33:21Speaker 2: both very you know, very tough places, and they were
- 33:25Speaker 2: it was just sharing about, you know, the music crossover
- 33:28Speaker 2: and how people Mark had a fight for every single
- 33:30Speaker 2: role he ever got as an actor, and I think
- 33:32Speaker 2: that really inspired Colson because the more you get to
- 33:35Speaker 2: know him, the more you see is obsession and passion
- 33:38Speaker 2: for movies, and he really knows films, so I think,
- 33:41Speaker 2: and then the music obviously, you know, so it I
- 33:44Speaker 2: just think you're right. I think he has such a
- 33:46Speaker 2: pat I want I was so excited for you to
- 33:48Speaker 2: talk to him because you're so educated with who he
- 33:51Speaker 2: is and his music, and you could see kind of
- 33:54Speaker 2: the energy.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's inspiring for someone like me who I
- 33:57Speaker 1: grew up in the arts and then moved to Lay
- 33:59Speaker 1: to be an actress. You know, like most people that
- 34:02Speaker 1: move out here, they don't move out here going I
- 34:04Speaker 1: think I'm going to move out there to be on
- 34:06Speaker 1: a reality TV show. You know, life just takes you
- 34:09Speaker 1: in different directions. And for a really long time being
- 34:12Speaker 1: on vander Pump, I was like, I feel like I'm
- 34:14Speaker 1: stuck in a box now, Like it's going to be
- 34:17Speaker 1: really hard to get back into the acting. But you know,
- 34:21Speaker 1: hearing close and story and just like with my mom
- 34:24Speaker 1: in my ear being like, you know, boxes don't exist.
- 34:28Speaker 1: You know, no one can put you in one. So
- 34:31Speaker 1: even though I'm on a reality TV show, that doesn't
- 34:34Speaker 1: take away me being able to be in film and
- 34:38Speaker 1: scripted TV. Like I can still do those things. I
- 34:40Speaker 1: might have to work a little bit harder. Well that's okay, oh.
- 34:43Speaker 2: No, And you do work really hard. And I think
- 34:45Speaker 2: that people in life sometimes even if you're a doctor
- 34:49Speaker 2: and you want to go do a regional play, like people, Oh,
- 34:52Speaker 2: he's a successful or she's a successful doctor. I think
- 34:55Speaker 2: that's perfectly said. I think people want to put us
- 34:58Speaker 2: all in boxes. Yeah, we have to kind of make
- 35:01Speaker 2: sure that people remember that we're versatile, that we can
- 35:03Speaker 2: do different things, whether it's in the arts or anything else.
- 35:06Speaker 2: And I think that you know the fact that you
- 35:08Speaker 2: did start in reality show and people will try to
- 35:10Speaker 2: pigeon pull you into that. You have fought very hard
- 35:13Speaker 2: to go beyond that. And I think that, you know,
- 35:16Speaker 2: I love people that are great at something and are
- 35:19Speaker 2: successful at something, but they will fight to go show
- 35:22Speaker 2: everybody they can do other things. And I think that's
- 35:25Speaker 2: kind of the moral of his story, you know, and
- 35:27Speaker 2: yours and many other people.
- 35:29Speaker 1: I agree. I also think that we should have named
- 35:32Speaker 1: this podcast the Icing Podcasts, because every other thing we
- 35:35Speaker 1: say is well, I think that it's this. I think
- 35:38Speaker 1: that it's that I think we.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Should both take our here's the thing. I think we
- 35:41Speaker 2: should put our hands on our chins and just ponder, ponder, think.
- 35:45Speaker 5: Of the day.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Okay, and you guys, you have to bear with us.
- 35:48Speaker 1: We have just moved into a new podcast studio that
- 35:51Speaker 1: we are making into like a professional little studio and
- 35:57Speaker 1: we're going to get carpets in here and the sound
- 35:59Speaker 1: is going to be live start but as of right.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Now, but hold on, let's do let's talk about the
- 36:03Speaker 2: good things we have. Our partner came and set out
- 36:07Speaker 2: set us, so they hooked us up fat. We got
- 36:09Speaker 2: these microphones that I feel like I'm on the Late
- 36:12Speaker 2: Late Show. I mean they're pretty five stars.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Right, like who am I j one?
- 36:16Speaker 2: Oh what is this?
- 36:17Speaker 3: I'm saying?
- 36:18Speaker 1: It's so cool?
- 36:19Speaker 2: So yeah, it's a little bear right now, but what
- 36:21Speaker 2: do we order? Yesterday we ordered our.
- 36:23Speaker 1: We ordered our carpet, and we ordered our big neon
- 36:28Speaker 1: sign that says give them Lalla, don't forget. It has
- 36:30Speaker 1: the do Do dog with Randall. Yes, it's pretty damn cool.
- 36:34Speaker 2: So so soon we're gonna we're gonna share that with
- 36:36Speaker 2: people as soon as it's ready.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Like on the IG do.
- 36:40Speaker 2: We have do we have any callers? I think we
- 36:42Speaker 2: need to go to the callers first.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Boys mail, Hey, lala amandall.
- 36:46Speaker 4: This is Annie from Kansas. Thanks so much for the podcast.
- 36:49Speaker 4: It's keeping my mind occupied and entertained while I'm partially
- 36:52Speaker 4: unemployed during quarantine. My question is for laala as a
- 36:55Speaker 4: fellow stepmom. I've been with my boyfriend for about a
- 36:58Speaker 4: year and a half.
- 36:59Speaker 8: He has two sweet angels for four or five, but.
- 37:02Speaker 4: We are past the honeymoon stage and I'm struggling a
- 37:04Speaker 4: bit with knowing how and when to discipline and figuring
- 37:06Speaker 4: out my role. Sometimes I feel super out of place.
- 37:10Speaker 4: A little girls can.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Be vicious too.
- 37:12Speaker 4: My man stands up for me, but it only does
- 37:14Speaker 4: so much. So I'm just wondering if you, Laila, have
- 37:16Speaker 4: had any not the right experiences of a stepmom and
- 37:19Speaker 4: how you handle them.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Thanks so much by I really like this question because
- 37:23Speaker 1: I think it's important to make people aware that it's
- 37:27Speaker 1: not all rainbows and butterflies being a stepmom. You do
- 37:32Speaker 1: most of the time feel like your bottom of the
- 37:34Speaker 1: totem pull and you struggle to figure out your place
- 37:39Speaker 1: and what you can do and not do. First of all,
- 37:42Speaker 1: I think the boundary as far as how to discipline,
- 37:46Speaker 1: you should have that conversation with your partner, because for me,
- 37:49Speaker 1: I always asked Randall, like, what do you feel comfortable
- 37:53Speaker 1: and uncomfortable with me doing? And he kind of just said,
- 37:57Speaker 1: I think you do great, just kind of of being
- 38:00Speaker 1: how you are and what you believe in and how
- 38:03Speaker 1: a parent, you know, a step parent should be.
- 38:06Speaker 2: So I just want to say something that, yeah, step in,
- 38:09Speaker 2: I don't know. I think every every relationship that is
- 38:13Speaker 2: evolving a step parent is different. But for me, I
- 38:17Speaker 2: just felt it was so natural how you were with
- 38:20Speaker 2: the girls and how we kind of went about it,
- 38:22Speaker 2: you know, how we kind of eased in at the
- 38:25Speaker 2: right time. I just feel it was a very natural fit.
- 38:28Speaker 2: So we didn't really have to sit down and have
- 38:31Speaker 2: like any real hard conversation because A you were a natural.
- 38:35Speaker 2: B You're so fun and they love hanging out with
- 38:38Speaker 2: you and doing all these fun things. And they also
- 38:40Speaker 2: know when Lala's around and they're with us it is serious.
- 38:46Speaker 2: No soda during the week. I mean, you have definitely
- 38:50Speaker 2: inspired them to be much healthier than I would have
- 38:53Speaker 2: been kind of probably on my own. So I'm very
- 38:55Speaker 2: thankful because, like my my ten year old said to
- 38:58Speaker 2: me yesterday, I think she's like, I was drinking a
- 39:01Speaker 2: diet or a doctor a roopier whatever, doctor pepper or
- 39:05Speaker 2: something like that, whatever, rooteers and a soda and blay lah.
- 39:09Speaker 2: She came up to me and I was like, oh,
- 39:10Speaker 2: you want to sip and she's like, it's Tuesday or Monday,
- 39:15Speaker 2: and Lala doesn't let us have soda during the week,
- 39:17Speaker 2: And I was like, what what Laala has? Definitely the
- 39:22Speaker 2: wrath of Laala is in this house, so wrath no,
- 39:24Speaker 2: but no, But I'm saying with love like you, you didn't.
- 39:27Speaker 2: We didn't have a conversation right that. You just said,
- 39:30Speaker 2: these are the things that should happen, this is what
- 39:32Speaker 2: I'd like to see in the house, and we just
- 39:33Speaker 2: went with it.
- 39:34Speaker 1: So I think my advice to you, Annie, would you know,
- 39:37Speaker 1: if there are certain things that you see in the
- 39:39Speaker 1: household that concern you or you know you're bothered by,
- 39:43Speaker 1: talk to your partner and then you guys work together
- 39:45Speaker 1: and then you'll know your place. And as far as
- 39:47Speaker 1: you feeling like an outsider, that is all in your head.
- 39:51Speaker 1: I for so long felt like I did not belong
- 39:53Speaker 1: and the second I just changed my mentality of like
- 39:56Speaker 1: I do belong here, like I'm loved, this is my family,
- 40:00Speaker 1: all of that, like insecurity, pretty much left. So I
- 40:04Speaker 1: get it. Being a step mom is very, very hard.
- 40:08Speaker 1: I've had real mamas tell me they think being a
- 40:10Speaker 1: step mom is even harder because we do fight. You know,
- 40:13Speaker 1: not knowing our boundaries, but you got this four and
- 40:17Speaker 1: five years old. You and I will conquer these youngins
- 40:19Speaker 1: together because girl wants. They're teenagers, like I don't even
- 40:22Speaker 1: know if I'm about that life yet.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Well the good news is, first of all, you keep
- 40:28Speaker 2: baby talking, so I'm sure there's going to be a
- 40:30Speaker 2: baby by the time they hit you know, teen life.
- 40:33Speaker 2: So yeah, so you'll you'll lock down the baby, I'll
- 40:35Speaker 2: handle the teenagers, and we'll work together and everything else.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Yes, I love that question, and Kansas, thank you. Let's
- 40:42Speaker 1: go to the next one.
- 40:44Speaker 8: Hi, Lala and Randal. My name is Ali. I'm from Cincinnati.
- 40:47Speaker 8: My question is, since you guys have become such a
- 40:50Speaker 8: power couple, has Randal ever thought of making a superhero film?
- 40:54Speaker 8: And if you guys could cast each other as a superhero,
- 40:57Speaker 8: who would you pick for one another? Love you guys
- 40:59Speaker 8: and love the show.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Okay, So Ali, first of all, great question. Yes, I
- 41:03Speaker 2: would love to produce a superhero movie one day, but
- 41:06Speaker 2: you know, unfortunately a lot of those superhero movies are
- 41:08Speaker 2: owned by the studios because they have.
- 41:11Speaker 1: My god, you should make a super hero movie called
- 41:14Speaker 1: super Fly.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Okay? Is that ape?
- 41:18Speaker 1: But is it a superhero.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Can I just finish my one? Yeah? You cut me off.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm an artist. I'm such an artist. You're going.
- 41:28Speaker 2: No Listen. All I want to say is is that
- 41:30Speaker 2: you know, I have always wanted to make a superhero.
- 41:32Speaker 2: It's very hard to get the rights to these super
- 41:35Speaker 2: superhero movies because of the fact that a lot of
- 41:39Speaker 2: them are taken up by the studios because Marvel or
- 41:42Speaker 2: different things are already owned. But I just want to
- 41:45Speaker 2: go back to say, if I was to pick a
- 41:46Speaker 2: superhero for you and I and I really mean this,
- 41:49Speaker 2: because you're like my hero, because I love you so
- 41:51Speaker 2: much on look up to you. You would be my
- 41:53Speaker 2: wonder woman.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Oh that is so sweet, babe. Is the Hulk a superhero?
- 41:59Speaker 2: Yes? I mean he's like he's I mean he kills people.
- 42:02Speaker 2: And is he bad?
- 42:04Speaker 1: Is he a bad guy?
- 42:04Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm not good in the superhero world, so.
- 42:06Speaker 1: I'm not either. But you'd be like the Hulk because
- 42:08Speaker 1: you're like nice and strong with kind of like a
- 42:11Speaker 1: bowl in a china shop, is how I describe you.
- 42:14Speaker 1: So you'd be like my Hulk, or maybe like an
- 42:16Speaker 1: iron Man.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Well, i'll take iron Man. He's bad. Ass. I mean
- 42:20Speaker 2: he's super bad. I mean, I'm not chiseled like Iron Man,
- 42:22Speaker 2: but damn his house is pimped out and the guy
- 42:24Speaker 2: can fly around.
- 42:25Speaker 1: But that's why it's dope, because you just wear iron.
- 42:27Speaker 1: No one even knows what you look like underneath. Oh
- 42:29Speaker 1: my god, you know, can you Iron?
- 42:32Speaker 2: Can you make me a super next week? So I
- 42:35Speaker 2: just walk around the house looking super chiselup but put
- 42:38Speaker 2: like a twelve pack on my stomach.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 42:40Speaker 2: But by the way, I want to tell I want
- 42:42Speaker 2: to say one thing. And I love that question, and
- 42:43Speaker 2: thank you, and and I love when you have your
- 42:46Speaker 2: fans become like a quarter of my fans, and thank you.
- 42:49Speaker 2: I wanted to say one thing. I am very proud
- 42:51Speaker 2: of myself. I'm tooting my own horror right now, maybe
- 42:53Speaker 2: to because you even cause you even acknowledged it that
- 42:58Speaker 2: I have lost drink quarantine twelve pounds.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I'm so proud of you.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna lose twenty by the end.
- 43:05Speaker 1: I know you and I love to binge eat. It's
- 43:07Speaker 1: like so much fun.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Well, don't even say you and I because you're wait on,
- 43:10Speaker 2: you're skinny and super high.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Well I'm also only twenty nine, and Lord knows, I
- 43:15Speaker 1: can't be eaten like this as I get older.
- 43:17Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I can't go down at by the way, last night
- 43:20Speaker 1: went downstairs ate a piece of chocolate cake. Didn't even
- 43:23Speaker 1: give a fuck.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Yeah, but this is what I'm saying. And then I'm
- 43:26Speaker 2: trying to lose weight, and it's like, okay, and here's
- 43:27Speaker 2: the thing. I'm so I've been so good every day
- 43:30Speaker 2: now I'm like in the zone, except.
- 43:31Speaker 1: For the McDonald's that we just had to Really I had.
- 43:34Speaker 2: A hamburger, no French try. I thank you very much,
- 43:37Speaker 2: But I just want to say something very important. The
- 43:39Speaker 2: problem with you is you're good and then like at
- 43:41Speaker 2: twelve thirty we're watching TV and you're like, baite, I'm
- 43:44Speaker 2: just gonna go downstairs for a second. But it's a lie.
- 43:47Speaker 2: It's a manipulation. You go down there and you just
- 43:49Speaker 2: go off.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:50Speaker 2: And I really have tell everybody about the bagel bites
- 43:53Speaker 2: the other night.
- 43:54Speaker 1: That was so weird because I'm used to him kaifing
- 43:57Speaker 1: my bagel bites. I like came up with like twelve
- 43:59Speaker 1: bagel bite to watch a movie, and I know it's disgusting.
- 44:02Speaker 1: I eat bagel bites in my bed.
