- 0:40Speaker 1: a difficult loss to the Lions. We decided to instead
- 0:44Speaker 1: of chasing down a Rams fan on short notice, we
- 0:47Speaker 1: would do a follow up episode to probably the biggest
- 0:50Speaker 1: and best game in the NFL so far this year
- 0:53Speaker 1: and look forward as well. We brought Zach Martina back
- 0:56Speaker 1: to break down the thirty one to twenty nine Lions
- 0:59Speaker 1: win and talk about a little bit of stuff in

- 1:28Speaker 1: the Rocket Ricketts, I mean your Minnesota Vikings have lost
- 1:41Speaker 1: their first game of the year against what some people
- 1:45Speaker 1: believe to be the best team in the NFC, perhaps
- 1:47Speaker 1: the best team in the NFL. We brought Zach Martinez back,
- 1:52Speaker 1: no pomp, no circumstance on the introduction here, just Zach
- 1:58Speaker 1: is back. His team won. I'm bitter and frustrated. Zach,
- 2:04Speaker 1: let me ask you.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I am not bitter and frustrated.
- 2:08Speaker 1: That's you know, That's not what I was going to
- 2:10Speaker 1: ask you. You know, I was going to ask you
- 2:12Speaker 1: something different, and I was leaving a space in there
- 2:16Speaker 1: due to my anger.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Well, okay, I'm sorry. I just I misread that. I apologize.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, totally, you totally misread it. So my There's been
- 2:26Speaker 1: kind of two schools of thought about the Vikings loss
- 2:31Speaker 1: to the Lions on Sunday. One is, hey, we went
- 2:35Speaker 1: toe to toe with the one of the best teams
- 2:38Speaker 1: in the NFL, probably the best team in the NFC.
- 2:40Speaker 1: We were right there till the end. We almost had
- 2:42Speaker 1: it right. And then the other school of thought is
- 2:47Speaker 1: it was closer than it seemed. If we don't get
- 2:49Speaker 1: that scoop and score it's they might push it out
- 2:52Speaker 1: like it really wasn't as competitive as the tightly contested
- 2:57Speaker 1: end made it seem as a lion's feil. And on
- 3:00Speaker 1: the winning side, how did you see it? How did
- 3:04Speaker 1: you receive the Vikings performance?
- 3:06Speaker 3: I saw it more as the former. That was the
- 3:11Speaker 3: entire game. I mean, first of all, credit to Vikings fans.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I'm watching at home, and that stadium was insane. That
- 3:18Speaker 3: stadium was so insane at the beginning of the game
- 3:21Speaker 3: that I mean I looked at my wife and I
- 3:22Speaker 3: was like, this is gonna be a problem.
- 3:24Speaker 2: It was. I mean, you could feel it. I could
- 3:26Speaker 2: feel it in Michigan. It was crazy. So credit to
- 3:29Speaker 2: the Vikings fans. They came out cool.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Thank you. I love your compliment on our stadium. Guy,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I'm in a bad mood. I'm in such a bad mood.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm in such a bad it's.
- 3:38Speaker 2: The state of the art. You guys made a good investment.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You guys made a good investment in that state.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I know what you're doing. Everybody thinks Oh, that is
- 3:44Speaker 1: very nice of Zact, But I know what you're doing.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Just make your damn point. Quit buttering me up with golf.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Dam that sure is a loud stadium. You got there, Now,
- 3:52Speaker 1: let me cut you down. Would you like to Would
- 3:54Speaker 1: you like to talk about the juicy lucies in town?
- 3:56Speaker 3: No, I'm still recovering from the one I had last man.
- 4:01Speaker 3: But what I will say is that thing you guys
- 4:03Speaker 3: do before the game, with like this whole clappy thing,
- 4:06Speaker 3: I will that's cool.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I will drive to Michigan and throw you in a
- 4:10Speaker 1: great lake.
- 4:12Speaker 3: My choice, though, I get to choose the lake. I
- 4:15Speaker 3: would say that it was the The game was very,
- 4:18Speaker 3: very entertaining. I was never I was never ever comfortable
- 4:22Speaker 3: the entire game. That seemed like two teams that were
- 4:26Speaker 3: playing for something that wasn't, in my opinion, one team
- 4:31Speaker 3: that was far and away better than the other team.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I know you mentioned that scoop and score and things change.
- 4:39Speaker 3: But on the flip side, you know, yes, the call
- 4:41Speaker 3: was right on the Brian Branch stripsack. I'm sorry, the
- 4:45Speaker 3: strip and run into the end zone. Yes he was out,
- 4:49Speaker 3: but they're like, oh, it was closer than it was.
- 4:50Speaker 3: The ball was moving, when was it moving? Like that
- 4:52Speaker 3: could have gone a different way as well, and then
- 4:55Speaker 3: it's a then it's a total blowout.
- 4:57Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 4:59Speaker 3: I think it was just I think it was a
- 5:00Speaker 3: very competitive game. I was not comfortable even. I mean
- 5:05Speaker 3: when they at that the end of the game, when
- 5:06Speaker 3: they're like, no, we're gonna have one second on the clock. Still,
- 5:09Speaker 3: I was like I was at that Thursday night game
- 5:11Speaker 3: where Aaron Rodgers through the Hail Mary for Green Bay
- 5:15Speaker 3: and beat the Lions like a sixty five yard thing
- 5:18Speaker 3: with one second left. And I mean there is a
- 5:21Speaker 3: little bit of PTSD from that. So I was not
- 5:23Speaker 3: comfortable until that game.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Read Zeros, I think you said it right. It felt
- 5:28Speaker 1: like two teams playing for something. And this has been
- 5:31Speaker 1: my talking point, like everybody's really jacked about this defense,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and I am as well. Here's ing. I'm a guy
- 5:38Speaker 1: who knows nothing about anything, but if you look globally
- 5:42Speaker 1: at the NFL, dominant defenses are never truly dominant anymore.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That's not how the league works. Once you get to
- 5:52Speaker 1: the playoffs, if you are gonna win three or four
- 5:55Speaker 1: games against great football teams, somebody's gonna put a thirty,
- 6:00Speaker 1: thirty five, thirty eight on you. The Cleveland Browns, they
- 6:03Speaker 1: go to the playoffs last year as this vaunted unreal
- 6:05Speaker 1: defense and CJ. Stroud throddles them. If you think of
- 6:10Speaker 1: the teams that are in the upper crest of the league, right,
- 6:14Speaker 1: you think about I mean, even though the Texans lost
- 6:17Speaker 1: to the Green Bay Packers, but you think about the Texans.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You think about the Chiefs, right, you think about the Bills,
- 6:23Speaker 1: You think about the Lions, the Niners who are down
- 6:27Speaker 1: this year. But you think about the Eagles, you think
- 6:29Speaker 1: about the Packers. These are all teams that on any
- 6:32Speaker 1: given week, they have a lot of weapons and they
- 6:34Speaker 1: can put points up. I'm not gonna say they're gonna
- 6:37Speaker 1: do it constantly, but the idea that you're gonna walk
- 6:39Speaker 1: into the NFL playoffs and hold three or four of
- 6:42Speaker 1: the best teams in the NFL under twenty four points
- 6:45Speaker 1: is complete and utter nonsense. And so to me, what
- 6:49Speaker 1: a great defense is is it's a defense that holds
- 6:51Speaker 1: teams in the regular season most of the time, has
- 6:55Speaker 1: its lapses. But then when you get in one of
- 6:58Speaker 1: those situations where you're gonna give up a thirty plus,
- 7:01Speaker 1: like the Vikings did on Sunday. Can they make the
- 7:04Speaker 1: crucial stops in the crucial moments, right, you get the
- 7:08Speaker 1: big stop early, you get the lead, but then after
- 7:11Speaker 1: giving up those four straight scoring drives, they have a
- 7:13Speaker 1: couple of crucial stops, including the scoop and score, But
- 7:17Speaker 1: I think just as important to stop after the scoop
- 7:20Speaker 1: and score. So that was, Yeah, that was a situation.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Like anybody who had any problem with the defense, I
- 7:25Speaker 1: just don't see it. You're playing the best offense in
- 7:27Speaker 1: the league and you go in there and with all
- 7:30Speaker 1: the money on the line, scoop and score to take
- 7:32Speaker 1: the lead, and here, offense, here's the ball with four
- 7:36Speaker 1: minutes left. Like that is a super Bowl defense. To me,
- 7:39Speaker 1: that's what a super Bowl defense will will do in
- 7:42Speaker 1: a big time playoff game. And I think the tough
- 7:45Speaker 1: thing is you get that two point conversion or you
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, you complete that, you know that flood concept
- 7:54Speaker 1: on third down and it's we're just having different conversations here,
- 7:57Speaker 1: but absolutely, you're right. It didn't feel like a game
- 8:00Speaker 1: that truly truly meant something.
- 8:03Speaker 3: And we yes, we're talking that. You know, the Lions
- 8:06Speaker 3: put up thirty one points, but it's not you guys
- 8:09Speaker 3: put up twenty nine and had you gone for the
- 8:12Speaker 3: pat or thing's gone different. Obviously you had to go
- 8:14Speaker 3: for the two. I get that. But if the Pats there,
- 8:17Speaker 3: like you put up a thirty banger too, the offense,
- 8:19Speaker 3: like your offense can put up points.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I do think that the offense put up twenty three.
- 8:24Speaker 2: That's true.
- 8:24Speaker 1: That's always the caveyat.
- 8:26Speaker 3: I mean, you take that regard, you take seven away
- 8:29Speaker 3: from us, and we put up twenty four because Brian
- 8:32Speaker 3: Branch had that Brian Ranch had that pick.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I thought, but I thought he scored and he did.
- 8:36Speaker 1: They reverse the scoop and scored.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I mean, it's remembered, but I will say, yeah, it
- 8:41Speaker 3: did feel like they It did feel like they played.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Both played for something that was an intense game the
- 8:44Speaker 2: entire time.
- 8:45Speaker 3: That was good football. I've never seen pre snap looks
- 8:47Speaker 3: like I did on your defense.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Even though it didn't work out. You know, the thing
- 8:51Speaker 1: before is it like we're gonna fight fire with fire.
- 8:53Speaker 1: We're they're gonna come at us defensively, We're gonna Obviously
- 8:57Speaker 1: that did not pan out. Jared Goff had a hell
- 9:00Speaker 1: of a day. But the argument is maybe it did
- 9:03Speaker 1: pan out because it was only thirty one points and
- 9:06Speaker 1: you got the stops that allowed you the chance to win.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I just don't know with all those weapons how consistently,
- 9:14Speaker 1: how consistently you can stop a team like that. But
- 9:17Speaker 1: what the hell is happening? Like, I know Jared Goff,
- 9:20Speaker 1: it worked, and you're like, oh, his career is resurrected,
- 9:23Speaker 1: But now it's like shifting into something different. Were like,
- 9:25Speaker 1: what the hell? What was the stat you told me
- 9:27Speaker 1: before the show?
- 9:29Speaker 3: In the last four games, the Lions as a team
- 9:33Speaker 3: have scored eighteen touchdowns and in that amount of time
- 9:37Speaker 3: they have only had sixteen incompletions.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That's one of the most bonkers things I've heard in Earth.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Only teams in the only team since the merger to
- 9:46Speaker 2: do something like that.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I is there. So what's the flaw with Jared Goff?
- 9:51Speaker 1: What's the thing? Because here's the thing. I'm not going
- 9:52Speaker 1: to sit there and believe that you believe like I
- 9:56Speaker 1: kind of feel the way the Chiefs fans do when
- 9:58Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes is out there. So going the rest of
- 10:00Speaker 1: the season, what's the what's the thing that's in the
- 10:04Speaker 1: back of your brain that you go if this happens
- 10:06Speaker 1: with Jared Goff, We're in trouble. What's the It's clearly
- 10:10Speaker 1: not blitzing him. No, because it's not just us. He's
- 10:12Speaker 1: like the best quarterback against the blitz in the whole league.
- 10:15Speaker 1: What is the concern?
- 10:17Speaker 3: It's not just Jared Goff. We have at this point
- 10:22Speaker 3: undeniably the best line in the NFL. We have a
- 10:27Speaker 3: top five run blocking grade. We have a top five
- 10:30Speaker 3: pass blocking grade. I think we're the only line in
- 10:32Speaker 3: the league that has that right now.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Do you remember when that draft happened and everybody wanted
- 10:37Speaker 1: you guys to get Jamar Chase and you and I
- 10:39Speaker 1: were texting and you got Piney Sewell and we were
- 10:42Speaker 1: we were both so pumped for you, Dude, I would
- 10:44Speaker 1: because I thought I thought he'd just be a Hall
- 10:46Speaker 1: of Famer on a garbage team for twenty years. I
- 10:48Speaker 1: didn't know this was happening. I would have been less
- 10:50Speaker 1: pumped if I knew this was about to happen. But man,
- 10:54Speaker 1: you want to talk about an all time decision. Yep,
- 10:58Speaker 1: that decision is chief amongst the reasons you guys are where, dude.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I mean, we were texting about it. I was on
- 11:07Speaker 3: stage at go bananas. When that draft pick came in,
- 11:12Speaker 3: and I was like doing live. I was not paying
- 11:16Speaker 3: attention to the set. I was paying attention to the draft,
- 11:18Speaker 3: and when that came in, I had to stop and
- 11:20Speaker 3: I had to convince Cincinnati fans why this was so
- 11:24Speaker 3: good for Detroit and they didn't care. Sure, I had
- 11:26Speaker 3: to dig out of a hole, but I did it
- 11:28Speaker 3: because it was that kind of love for that kind
- 11:30Speaker 3: of pick. But what it was, what I was saying,
- 11:32Speaker 3: is like, yes, our line is great. We do not
- 11:34Speaker 3: have Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes I think plays very much.
- 11:37Speaker 3: So he knows the game obviously, but he plays on instinct,
- 11:42Speaker 3: he plays on athleticism. He can move like Jared Goff
- 11:46Speaker 3: has shown to be a far more analytical quarterback than
- 11:49Speaker 3: I ever thought. You know, he got such a bad
- 11:53Speaker 3: rep in LA and then he got here the first
- 11:57Speaker 3: year and Detroit was not happy.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I thought he was. I was. I was happy.
- 12:01Speaker 3: I was like, this guy went to the super Bowl.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Matthew Stafford never had won a playoff game. Like this
- 12:05Speaker 3: guy went to the super Bowl. Let's not let's not
- 12:07Speaker 3: burn the house down, okay, And then all of a
- 12:09Speaker 3: sudden he gets that's weird.
- 12:10Speaker 1: That's I'm gonna tell you. I don't admire that about you.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think that's really dumb reasoning. I hate that about
- 12:16Speaker 1: you that you thought that I don't.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Remember what the Lions were before, Like I had to
- 12:21Speaker 3: look on the right side.
- 12:23Speaker 1: It was Matt Stafford's I just this is how anybody
- 12:26Speaker 1: who wonders like the type of people we bring on
- 12:28Speaker 1: the show, but you specifically, if you wonder, is like,
- 12:31Speaker 1: are these people truly die hard fans? Like the fact
- 12:34Speaker 1: that because I don't think you're making stuff up for
- 12:36Speaker 1: show's sake right now, I do think that's real.
- 12:39Speaker 2: I would never sign.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I do think that when you traded a Hall of
- 12:43Speaker 1: Famer for a guy who had gotten worked in the
- 12:46Speaker 1: Super Bowl by Bill Belichick, you were like, it's simple football,
- 12:50Speaker 1: myth brother. One of them has been to the Super
- 12:53Speaker 1: Bowl and one of them hasn't. It wasn't wild, but
- 12:56Speaker 1: I do, unfortunately believe it.
- 12:58Speaker 2: It wasn't that Sack.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I was obviously, I was very intrigued by the two
- 13:04Speaker 3: first round draft picks that we were going to get.
- 13:07Speaker 3: I could not believe that that first year the Rams
- 13:10Speaker 3: were so bad and our second draft pick was that high,
- 13:13Speaker 3: like it worked out great. But when Jared Goff came yes,
- 13:16Speaker 3: I was bummed that Matthew Stafford was leaving because he
- 13:19Speaker 3: was built Ford tough, all right, that guy he played hurt.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I mean those soundbites of him when he's all jacked up.
- 13:26Speaker 2: The city loved him absolutely.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I was just saying people were ready to do the
- 13:31Speaker 3: nineteen sixties Detroit Riots again when Jared Goff came in,
- 13:35Speaker 3: and I was like, let's let's not strike the matches
- 13:38Speaker 3: quite yet. However, I will say we had I think
- 13:41Speaker 3: that was yeah, that was Campbell's first year and we
- 13:43Speaker 3: brought Anthony Lynn in as our offensive coordinator and that
- 13:47Speaker 3: was not That was no bueno. It did not work
- 13:49Speaker 3: out well. Mid season we had a party to the
- 13:52Speaker 3: ways and Ben Johnson came up to start calling the plays.
- 13:56Speaker 2: However, Dan Campbell that year reserved the right.
- 13:59Speaker 3: He's like, I'm gonna call these plays, all right, why
- 14:00Speaker 3: don't you take a shot, Like he really tried.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Ben Johnson out. Then that second year, where Ben.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Johnson was the first first year all season coordinator, you
- 14:10Speaker 3: could tell that he and Goff spent the entire offseas
- 14:13Speaker 3: together building an offense and it didn't click.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Right away.
- 14:17Speaker 3: It didn't click until the second half of that second season.
- 14:19Speaker 3: All of a sudden, we're putting up points. All of
- 14:21Speaker 3: a sudden, Amen, Rossi, and Brown looks like, how did
- 14:23Speaker 3: you find this guy in the fourth round? So I
- 14:25Speaker 3: think what it comes down to is, yes, the line
- 14:27Speaker 3: is giving him time. They're giving him, they're giving him
- 14:30Speaker 3: a chance to make good decisions while being blitzed. But
- 14:34Speaker 3: I think it is that the offensive coordinator is smart
- 14:38Speaker 3: enough to have built an offense around the talents of
- 14:43Speaker 3: an individual, and it is allowing that player to shine.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Sure, I'm looking at your guys' schedule because like, I
- 14:49Speaker 1: need to look forward. That's who I am. I have
- 14:51Speaker 1: to look forward. Your next three games are interesting. Our
- 14:54Speaker 1: next three games are interesting. You have you go Titans
- 14:59Speaker 1: and then at Packers, at Texans. Right and late in
- 15:04Speaker 1: the season, you have Bills and Niners, which normally you'd
- 15:08Speaker 1: be sitting here with like the Ayuke injury, with all
- 15:10Speaker 1: this stuff, you'd be like, well, I don't know that
- 15:12Speaker 1: the Niners are gonna matter. That division is not a
- 15:15Speaker 1: very good football division right now, and who knows if
- 15:19Speaker 1: that'll matter. But these next three weeks are going to
- 15:21Speaker 1: be interesting. You have this opportunity if you put the
- 15:24Speaker 1: Titans down and you go into these two really tough
- 15:26Speaker 1: back to back matchups Packers Texans, which Joe, by the way,
- 15:29Speaker 1: we won both of those games. But if you if
- 15:33Speaker 1: you get those it gets really really fun for you guys.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 1: But the Vikings having played those guys, I mean, we're
- 15:42Speaker 1: coming in the next three. I think that this week
- 15:46Speaker 1: what an interesting testament to Oh hey, they just posted
- 15:50Speaker 1: the Anthony Edwards justin Jefferson redo of the Moss Garnett picture.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I mean, tonight is the Timberwolves tip off, so it
- 16:00Speaker 1: is very cool. It is very cool. I don't generally
- 16:03Speaker 1: like stuff like that. Zach, I will throw your whole
- 16:08Speaker 1: house in a great lake. Don't condescend me. But if
- 16:14Speaker 1: you can get this Rams game on a quick turn on,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I think this is people are gonna think I'm an idiot.
- 16:20Speaker 1: This is probably the biggest game of the season because
- 16:23Speaker 1: you came out and Zach, excuse me, Jay is laughing
- 16:27Speaker 1: at me like I'm an idiot. I'll throw him in
- 16:29Speaker 1: the lake too. Honestly, I'm ready to retire.
- 16:34Speaker 2: This sounds like you're ready to retire a lot of people.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and then retire myself. It's gonna be it's gonna
- 16:41Speaker 1: be a double retire side retire situation. Zach.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It sounds like we all need a bath at this point.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Stop stop, stop both of you. Stop it.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Let me.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Let me tell you why I think this RAMS game
- 16:54Speaker 1: is the most important game of the season. Now, there
- 16:56Speaker 1: might be a more important game in the future. But
- 16:59Speaker 1: no one expected this team to be anything. They were
- 17:01Speaker 1: slotted for fifth in or excuse me, fourth in the division.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I think some people probably hadn't fifth. That's how mean
- 17:06Speaker 1: people were beingto this football team.
- 17:08Speaker 2: There's only four teams.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I understand. That's the joke.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Zach.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Oh, Zach, I'll set your car on fire.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I was just questioning your math skills because I believe
- 17:19Speaker 3: your predict prediction for the game was one hundred and
- 17:22Speaker 3: twenty nine to six based on six safety.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Hey, this is why we don't do review shows. This
- 17:28Speaker 1: is why it's a preview show and not a review show.
- 17:34Speaker 1: But so the team comes out, they go five and zero,
- 17:37Speaker 1: they knock off three teams that everybody think are contenders,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and all of a sudden there's this like, oh my gosh,
- 17:41Speaker 1: who are they? And the interesting thing for me is
- 17:44Speaker 1: I don't think they're surprised by it. I don't think
- 17:47Speaker 1: the coaching staff and the players are surprised, but I
- 17:49Speaker 1: think they're like, yeah, man, this is who we thought
- 17:52Speaker 1: we were. And one thing I heard about in the
- 17:55Speaker 1: locker room after the game is they were pissed. They
- 17:57Speaker 1: were They genuinely took that game extremely hard, which continues
- 18:02Speaker 1: to tell me that this team. I often think that
- 18:06Speaker 1: players especially really know who they are basically in the preseason,
- 18:11Speaker 1: right they know they see the guys on the field.
- 18:14Speaker 1: It's the funniest thing about drafting. You know, you get
- 18:16Speaker 1: these guys in you draft a quarterback or receiver and
- 18:19Speaker 1: you're like, I think they're gonna make it, Like they
- 18:20Speaker 1: don't look good now, Like there's this whole narrative. But
- 18:23Speaker 1: I think every player, like two weeks into training camp,
- 18:26Speaker 1: is like that guy doesn't have it. Yep, be never
- 18:29Speaker 1: gonna have it. You can sell it to the fans,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but it's not there. Players know, especially veteran teams. This
- 18:35Speaker 1: is the fifth oldest team in the NFL, so I
- 18:38Speaker 1: think they knew who they were coming into this year.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And you get this first loss, and it's the first crack,
- 18:46Speaker 1: and you can't go lose this Rams game. You can't
- 18:50Speaker 1: be slat like. This is the sort of game like
- 18:52Speaker 1: if you are who you thought you were and who
- 18:55Speaker 1: the rest of the world didn't think you were. This
- 18:58Speaker 1: is the game on a short turn on where you
- 19:00Speaker 1: have to go. That sucked. We should have won that game.
- 19:02Speaker 1: We let it slip through our hand. We were sloppy
- 19:04Speaker 1: at times and we had the opportunities and we blew it.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Now we are going to go into a bad RAMS
- 19:10Speaker 1: team and we are going to execute, and we are
- 19:13Speaker 1: going to defeat them, and then we're just gonna keep moving.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Like to me, locker rooms are weird places, and they
- 19:19Speaker 1: build upon moments. If you go in and you let
- 19:22Speaker 1: this one slip and play bad, it can really seed
- 19:26Speaker 1: some doubt. But you go in and do what you're
- 19:28Speaker 1: supposed to do, and then you have Colts, Jags, Titans. Yeah,
- 19:31Speaker 1: it gets really, really interesting, and our two teams might
- 19:34Speaker 1: be on a collision path towards the end of the year.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I do think that we are on a collision I mean,
- 19:39Speaker 3: anytime you see a divisional game in the last week
- 19:42Speaker 3: of the season, there are certain butterflies that come with
- 19:47Speaker 3: it to any football fan, like that could be.
- 19:50Speaker 2: For the division.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I am not surprised at all that your locker room
- 19:55Speaker 3: was upset after that loss.
- 19:56Speaker 2: The way that both teams.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Played, like I said earlier, like they were playing for something,
- 20:00Speaker 3: and when you don't get the thing that you've worked
- 20:03Speaker 3: so hard for, yeah, you're gonna be upset. I agree
- 20:06Speaker 3: with you also that you gotta win this uh, this
- 20:10Speaker 3: RAMS game. You've got to win this RAMS game based
- 20:14Speaker 3: on I think to get.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Not not not buy back in.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I don't know what the phrase would be, but like
- 20:19Speaker 3: just to get that motor going back in the right direction.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I will also, as a Lions fan, just let you
- 20:26Speaker 3: know that whoever the Lions play the next week, that
- 20:31Speaker 3: team has lost because they are And this is what
- 20:36Speaker 3: analysts say from the other the other markets, Arizona, even
- 20:40Speaker 3: Tampa Bay, who beat us Lions, beats you up.
- 20:42Speaker 2: You're sore and you're on a short week.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I yeah, they're unlike the other football teams who hit
- 20:48Speaker 1: you when you play against what they don't.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Hey, sorry, you've seen Dan Campbell.
- 20:54Speaker 3: You've smelled his chew from watching a press conference through
- 20:58Speaker 3: your internet connection. They different, all right, this team's all
- 21:01Speaker 3: about grit mc DC baby, But I do I do
- 21:07Speaker 3: think that this short week is not great on That's
- 21:11Speaker 3: the only thing I don't like that you guys are away.
- 21:15Speaker 3: I will say this far and away. Minnesota is my
- 21:20Speaker 3: second favorite team in the division. Oh cool, So I'm
- 21:24Speaker 3: pulling for you guys on Thursday, I'm pulling for.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I'm not pulling for you on Sunday at all. And also,
- 21:29Speaker 1: let me tell you something that's cool.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Why would you're probably still bitter about last night.
- 21:32Speaker 1: It's not even just about being bitter. I'm just not
- 21:33Speaker 1: gonna pull for the other team that's tied with us
- 21:35Speaker 1: in the division. I want you to drop a big Well,
- 21:37Speaker 1: you're not.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Tied in the division. We are first in the division
- 21:41Speaker 2: based on statistics.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I want you to drop a big, rotten performance against
- 21:49Speaker 1: the Titans. And I want you to be like, did
- 21:51Speaker 1: we lose to Mason Rudolph. I didn't know he was
- 21:54Speaker 1: in the league. That's what i'd like. Let me and
- 21:57Speaker 1: the reason that you're getting a little attitude from me
- 21:59Speaker 1: right here is I'm you know, I want I've pulled
- 22:01Speaker 1: up our schedules, what we're doing the show, and that
- 22:03Speaker 1: put me on ESPN dot com, my former haunt, and
- 22:08Speaker 1: I sure shouldn't read stuff on ESPN dot com my
- 22:12Speaker 1: former haunt. And I'm very angry, but like I got,
- 22:18Speaker 1: here's the thing, why would you ever read a power rankings? Ever?
- 22:23Speaker 1: They're only power rankings are only built so that people
- 22:26Speaker 1: have something like that, talking heads have something to talk about.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I'm not an idiot, but like I was, like, Wow,
- 22:32Speaker 1: Zach's babbling on about caring about us and that we're
- 22:35Speaker 1: the second team. He's over there lying. Why don't I
- 22:38Speaker 1: check into where the U is lying? Don't you're fired?
- 22:44Speaker 1: You're fired? Jay? Jay? Can we cut his? Uh? Can we?
- 22:47Speaker 1: Can we cut him from his payroll of zero dollars?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Zero dollars strike season? So the the way they did
- 22:54Speaker 1: it this week they did the power rankings and then
- 22:59Speaker 1: they listed who's the young riser on your team? Who's
- 23:03Speaker 1: the young star on the rise? Who's the young riser? Uh?
- 23:07Speaker 1: So the Detroit Lions are number two. Who do you
- 23:10Speaker 1: think the young riser on your team is? Who have
- 23:13Speaker 1: they penned as the young riser?
- 23:17Speaker 2: I would say Brian Branch? But does it happen?
- 23:19Speaker 1: It's Brian Branch? Correct, it is Brian Branch. Now here's
- 23:22Speaker 1: my problem. Where do you think the Minnesota Vikings Land.
- 23:27Speaker 2: After that game.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say, and I'm not looking, I would
- 23:33Speaker 3: say top twelve.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Zach, I am going to jay, I'm never doing a
- 23:40Speaker 1: review show ever again. Top twelve, our one losses to
- 23:45Speaker 1: the number two team. We're six. I'm pissed about six.
- 23:48Speaker 1: You somehow made me more angry then, And maybe that's
- 23:53Speaker 1: a friendship thing. Maybe you're like, I'm gonna pull say
- 23:55Speaker 1: out of this moment he's in where he's over spiraling
- 23:57Speaker 1: on his side monitor about some rankings that don't matter.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Maybe if I say something insane like top twelve, he'll
- 24:05Speaker 1: respond to that, and then that'll he'll be like, oh,
- 24:09Speaker 1: now I'm back in reality. We're six, and oh, by
- 24:12Speaker 1: the way, we beat the number seven team and the
- 24:14Speaker 1: number five team and our only losses to the number
- 24:18Speaker 1: two team. So yeah, it totally makes sense that the
- 24:21Speaker 1: four and two Baltimore Ravens and the five and two
- 24:24Speaker 1: Packers should be above us. Great call.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I don't know that the Packers should be.
- 24:31Speaker 3: The Baltimore Ravens are dismantling people of late, Like, I
- 24:36Speaker 3: don't know, man, do.
- 24:38Speaker 1: You think Derrick Henry rushes for two thousand yards? My
- 24:40Speaker 1: brother Greg has heavily invested in him getting two thousand
- 24:44Speaker 1: yards because, as he framed in a text or phrased
- 24:47Speaker 1: in a text, I am preparing for the inevitable heartbreak
- 24:50Speaker 1: of being a Minnesota Vikings fans by putting a lot
- 24:53Speaker 1: of hope. He's cushioning by putting a lot of hope
- 24:56Speaker 1: in Derrick Henry getting a second two thousand yard season.
- 24:58Speaker 3: The only I mean, it's certainly a possibility. I think
- 25:02Speaker 3: the fact that Lamar Jackson is so good at running
- 25:04Speaker 3: is going to keep him about two to three hundred
- 25:07Speaker 3: yards away from it.
- 25:08Speaker 1: How do you if you are like, how does it
- 25:10Speaker 1: get worse? If you're Tennessee right now? Right Like, here's
- 25:15Speaker 1: the thing. I'm Tennessee two years from now might be
- 25:18Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl, cause so.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Give Hellman's Mayo the naming rights to their stadium.
- 25:25Speaker 1: You could always you never know what a team's rebuild is.
- 25:28Speaker 1: But in this moment, like they they could have made
- 25:31Speaker 1: every right decision and two years from now we'll be
- 25:33Speaker 1: like wow. But right now, you know, AJ Brown has
- 25:36Speaker 1: been amazing in Philadelphia over the last couple of years.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Derrick Henry, Whoeverbody's like, yeah, I'm not a big deal.
- 25:42Speaker 1: He's old might go for two thousand if Mike Brable
- 25:46Speaker 1: takes the Browns starting quarterback job and leads them to
- 25:49Speaker 1: the playoffs. Like, I don't know how it gets worse,
- 25:52Speaker 1: but it's not. People are thriving outside their former relationship
- 25:57Speaker 1: when it comes to the Texans, as the youngsters say,
- 26:00Speaker 1: do the youngsters stay thriving outside your former relationship? No?
- 26:04Speaker 1: I just like saying as the youngsters.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I don't like they say thriving anymore. However, I did
- 26:08Speaker 3: go see my brother last night with my daughters and Emily,
- 26:12Speaker 3: and my brother dyed my daughter's hair red and her
- 26:16Speaker 3: friend saw the hair and called my brother zesty, Oh zesty,
- 26:22Speaker 3: which I guess is a big compliment.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Oh he's got like I hadn't heard it before.
- 26:25Speaker 1: He gallot zi, he's got a little Zach galloz to him.
- 26:28Speaker 3: My brother said it sounds like a very old dressing
- 26:30Speaker 3: and your refrigerator.
- 26:31Speaker 1: And I was like, well, yeah, gold, do you have
- 26:35Speaker 1: any of these zesty chips? Yeah, it sounds like a
- 26:37Speaker 1: flavor of ruffles. I don't like it, but I do
- 26:40Speaker 1: believe it's important. It's the tough thing Zach about getting
- 26:44Speaker 1: older as an artist, is I think. If you don't
- 26:47Speaker 1: spend time around young people, you age out of relevancy
- 26:53Speaker 1: and an understanding.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Of the world.
- 26:55Speaker 1: But the older you get, the harder it is to
- 26:58Speaker 1: be like, hey, twenty year olds, what do you think
- 27:00Speaker 1: of life? You just there's just that gap is making
- 27:04Speaker 1: you weirder when you're like, I just want to know
- 27:07Speaker 1: what a twenty three year old guy thinks of the world.
- 27:09Speaker 1: And that's not a good look. As you age beyond forty.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Here's what aging artists have to do. As you put it,
- 27:17Speaker 3: you have to be able to You have to be
- 27:19Speaker 3: able to understand the language while refusing to speak it.
- 27:23Speaker 3: You have to be able to go to Italy and
- 27:25Speaker 3: know they're talking about you in Italian, but just act
- 27:28Speaker 3: like you only speak English.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Sure you can't, Yeah you don't. You don't want to
- 27:32Speaker 1: be the guy at the Mexican restaurant saying I like facias.
- 27:36Speaker 1: You can't do that. You just have to ask for
- 27:39Speaker 1: the fajidas and move on.
- 27:42Speaker 3: And yeah, you don't want to be you don't want
- 27:44Speaker 3: to be a middle aged man going up be like,
- 27:47Speaker 3: look at that gyat which I guess is a big booty.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I hate that. I want the show to be over, Jay,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I hate that more than I've hated anything that we've
- 27:56Speaker 1: done in multiple years on this program.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Well, the Vikings have a wonderfold yet, and I'm so
- 28:01Speaker 3: glad the Lions got to put their foot in net.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Zach, Zach, I I could not have enjoyed this more
- 28:10Speaker 1: and less at the same time.
- 28:12Speaker 2: That's what I like, That's where I like to live.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. I want nothing more than
- 28:17Speaker 1: us to be playing each other in the final week
- 28:21Speaker 1: of the season with the number one seed on the line.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I know that's a big dream and a big wish
- 28:27Speaker 1: and it's a long way to get there, but God damn,
- 28:30Speaker 1: I want nothing more than that.
- 28:31Speaker 2: And then you just got to work your way from
- 28:33Speaker 2: that number six power ranking.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Jake, could you just cut the show? I just keep
- 28:39Speaker 1: trying to get out, and he just keeps saying, this
- 28:41Speaker 1: is why we don't do these, ladies and gentlemen, for
- 28:44Speaker 1: Jay Nelson, for the Vikings Entertainment Network, and certainly not
- 28:48Speaker 1: for Zach Martina.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Come to laugh Camp.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah, he's at laugh Camp. Go see him there this weekend.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Bye, guys.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Thanks again to Zach Martina for joining the show, and
- 28:59Speaker 1: thank you for listening to our podcast feed. Hey, well
- 29:01Speaker 1: you're here, why don't you give us a like and
- 29:03Speaker 1: a subscribe, maybe leave a review. Those things help us.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Also a huge shout out to Ticketmaster, the official ticket
- 29:11Speaker 1: marketplace of the Minnesota Vikings, for helping make this show happen.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Enjoy the game, and we will see you all again
- 29:18Speaker 1: next week.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Hey Vikings fans, Ben Lever here, I'm so excited to
