- 0:16Speaker 1: and Brad.
- 0:18Speaker 2: You brought friends, well, of course I did. Hopefully I
- 0:21Speaker 2: still have a few left, but I got one that's
- 0:24Speaker 2: never been on the show before today. I got welcome.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Let's just start the show as I usually do. Good
- 0:31Speaker 2: morning friends. We're so glad you're with us this morning.
- 0:34Speaker 2: What a beautiful morning here in Bartlesville. Got the sun
- 0:37Speaker 2: out finally and a little bit of cool weather and
- 0:40Speaker 2: high humidity.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And yeah, I.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Said I wouldn't bring it up again, but the allergies
- 0:46Speaker 2: are still out there. But I am very happy today
- 0:50Speaker 2: to welcome my guest, Gerald Thompson, otherwise known as Coach T.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Say Hello, Gerald, Welcome, good morning, good morning, good morning.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Glad you are here. I'm had to be.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'm excited to ask you some questions and find out
- 1:03Speaker 2: stuff I don't already.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Know about your about you. Yeah, you know, you're a.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Long time fixture in Barsville sporting circles and uh you
- 1:13Speaker 2: know next Friday will be honored by this Barsville Sports Commission.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Is one of this year's inductees into the Barrosville Athletic
- 1:19Speaker 2: Hall of Fame congratulation.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you.
- 1:22Speaker 2: It's a well deserved honor, and uh you know, I
- 1:26Speaker 2: think it's one of those things that we you know,
- 1:30Speaker 2: those of us who played sports and we had children
- 1:32Speaker 2: that did recognize what are the coaches do that that
- 1:37Speaker 2: just so you know, it's such a valuable thing in
- 1:40Speaker 2: someone's life. And but I want to start back in
- 1:44Speaker 2: the beginning. You know, where'd you grow up and grew up?
- 1:50Speaker 3: I grew up here in Bartisville, Oklahoma. Awesome, ran these
- 1:55Speaker 3: streets of Bardisville, Oklahoma, educated Douglas Elementary School Central, and
- 2:04Speaker 3: of course I was a Wildcat.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So you really are I am a Wildcat, a.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Long time fixture and sporting circles and other circles. I'm sure, yes,
- 2:17Speaker 2: that's awesome. And how did you get into coaching?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Into coaching?
- 2:23Speaker 3: Well, you know, I and I'll say this next Friday,
- 2:27Speaker 3: and my after my senior year of playing, I had
- 2:34Speaker 3: the opportunity to coach the high school team that was
- 2:38Speaker 3: going to be in the summer league at the Boys
- 2:40Speaker 3: and Girls Club And so that was my first first
- 2:44Speaker 3: venture into coaching. And uh so that was I said, Okay,
- 2:49Speaker 3: I kind.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Of like this and enjoyed that, and then you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: went on to went on.
- 2:56Speaker 3: To college and uh and after college, you know, I
- 3:01Speaker 3: moved to Tulsa, and in Tulsa, I kind of dabbled
- 3:06Speaker 3: a little bit in wreck coaching, and then I taught
- 3:13Speaker 3: in Tulsa public schools for seven years.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And then then I just had a leading.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I had a goie heard this to uh go to
- 3:25Speaker 3: a Christian school and began teaching there. And uh, I
- 3:29Speaker 3: kind of resisted that for a while, but it was
- 3:32Speaker 3: it was the right decision, and uh began coaching there,
- 3:38Speaker 3: coaching basketball, volleyball. It was just talking about it last
- 3:43Speaker 3: night at the softball game. A myriad of other sports
- 3:46Speaker 3: that I never coached. Yeah, and uh, yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Sometimes get into place and they yeah, the people that
- 3:53Speaker 2: have that passion right and get drawn into doing all.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Kinds of things right, right. So it was great experience.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I coached Faith Chrish Academy and at Grace Christian School,
- 4:02Speaker 3: and then I came back home to Bordisville.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I came back home, came back in eighty seven.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I came back in eighty seven and joined coach Carol
- 4:17Speaker 3: Green's staff. Yeah, last year's inductees and so been doing
- 4:24Speaker 3: it ever since, and had a little break and then
- 4:31Speaker 3: joined coach Bart's, then joined after the Coach greenstaff, joined
- 4:37Speaker 3: the Coach Bergers staff, and then became the head coach
- 4:41Speaker 3: here for a few years with the girls, and.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Then after that had a three year break and I
- 4:47Speaker 1: was but was always watching and.
- 4:51Speaker 3: From the outside, and then got back in in two
- 4:53Speaker 3: thousand and six and been in it ever since then.
- 4:58Speaker 3: But I and I taught at Central time here. I
- 5:00Speaker 3: told you a lot of it's you know, on youth
- 5:06Speaker 3: and through that.
- 5:08Speaker 2: But coaching is kind of unique because you're you're just
- 5:12Speaker 2: the team aspect of it and being able to put
- 5:16Speaker 2: together that that organized activity of some goal and you know,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you're trying to teach people, I'm sure something about what
- 5:25Speaker 2: it takes to accomplish things together.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's the key.
- 5:31Speaker 3: If you can knit them together, that's the most important thing.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you think the secrets to that are?
- 5:38Speaker 1: How do you? How do you? How do you? You know?
- 5:43Speaker 3: I think you have to be open to learn, and
- 5:46Speaker 3: you know, I've learned a lot over these years that
- 5:51Speaker 3: the first thing that I learned was that coaching is
- 5:54Speaker 3: so different from playing that playing you had control. You know,
- 6:01Speaker 3: coaching you have to really knit the kids.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Together and and convince them of the power of working together.
- 6:11Speaker 4: And and so that that was that was a big, big, less.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Interesting different perspective. Maybe you really don't have control as
- 6:21Speaker 2: a player. You certainly depend on the rest of the team.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And uh, you know, I remember a book called The
- 6:28Speaker 2: Sixth Man that that I read a long time ago.
- 6:31Speaker 2: There was about the role that that last, that first
- 6:35Speaker 2: guy off the bench.
- 6:36Speaker 1: It's the six man in basketball, and that you.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Know, they're not the star, they're not the one that
- 6:42Speaker 2: gets the accolades, but that often they can be one
- 6:45Speaker 2: that kind of knits it together and you know, is
- 6:50Speaker 2: giving themselves up for not for accolades and not for control,
- 6:55Speaker 2: but to be able to to kind of create that.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Yes, that that team, the power of team is pretty spacial.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think that that's a common theme on
- 7:07Speaker 2: our show here, and I know you listen sometimes that's
- 7:11Speaker 2: that I think at the end of the day, I
- 7:13Speaker 2: try to focus on my passion for leadership and team
- 7:18Speaker 2: building on the show.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And that's why I was so excited to have you
- 7:21Speaker 1: on here and.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And kind of just kind of talk through some of this.
- 7:25Speaker 2: That's good to be here. I'm really happy to have
- 7:27Speaker 2: you here, and it will be excited next week to
- 7:30Speaker 2: see to hear you're here, you talk about it and
- 7:34Speaker 2: and all the you know, the impact you've had on
- 7:38Speaker 2: all these people. I am sure there will be lots
- 7:40Speaker 2: of your former players and at the celebration and it's, uh,
- 7:46Speaker 2: it's got to be kind of heartwarming to you, I hope.
- 7:49Speaker 2: And yeah, you get involved with the Sports Commission for
- 7:53Speaker 2: for a long time and tell us about that.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I think this commission is just awesome and great. And
- 8:02Speaker 3: this is a seventeenth one I believed. I think it's
- 8:06Speaker 3: the seventeenth and I've been at all of.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Them except for one. I miss. I miss one.
- 8:13Speaker 3: And that was coach Ripley's I hated I miss that
- 8:17Speaker 3: for Mickey, but it's been pretty special. And when Chris
- 8:24Speaker 3: called me and he told me back in back.
- 8:28Speaker 1: In April, I think it was April that I was
- 8:32Speaker 1: going to be.
- 8:34Speaker 3: An inductee in and I said, oh, Chris, you flipped
- 8:39Speaker 3: the script on me.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Because I've always enjoyed.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Being working in the background, kind of presenting people, in
- 8:48Speaker 3: introducing people that I think would be great candidates. You know,
- 8:53Speaker 3: I probably get to look at the.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Plaques on the wall the gym more than anyone.
- 9:03Speaker 3: And uh so that's just been an honor to watch
- 9:07Speaker 3: all the names go up there, many that I know,
- 9:10Speaker 3: many of my teammates, many coaches that are that I
- 9:13Speaker 3: work with. And uh and I told him, I said,
- 9:17Speaker 3: I said, Chris, it's not it's not my time. There's
- 9:20Speaker 3: so many more that should be ahead of me. And
- 9:23Speaker 3: he's and he said, oh yes, I said, he said,
- 9:28Speaker 3: we'll take care of those others iss yours now, Yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 3: I do deserve.
- 9:33Speaker 1: That time in the spotlight. I know that.
- 9:35Speaker 2: My perception is that's not something you were ever searching
- 9:38Speaker 2: for and now and that but that you know, because
- 9:41Speaker 2: I know you you've devoted yourself to lots of JV
- 9:44Speaker 2: teams and a lot of of like you mentioned, coaching
- 9:48Speaker 2: opportunities and we're obviously, you know, obvious to you that
- 9:52Speaker 2: you know, you didn't even know the sport, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 2: and you know that kind of that doing that in
- 9:57Speaker 2: the background, and you know, and working with the families and.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Kids that aren't aren't the stars, and yeah, and that's
- 10:08Speaker 1: you know, you just it's all about the kids, you.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Know, working with the kids and watching him grow and
- 10:15Speaker 3: develop and mature.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And that's the fun point, that's the rewarding part.
- 10:21Speaker 2: You know, we all can think of teachers or coaches
- 10:24Speaker 2: in our lives that had an impact honest like that.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I'm sure you have your own and your own memories
- 10:30Speaker 2: of that. I certainly do. And it's, uh, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 2: it often flashes through my mind.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Where would I be without that? And and you know, so.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Again, thank you for for for your devotion to the
- 10:42Speaker 2: youth in our community and to youth in general. And
- 10:45Speaker 2: you know, I think it's often underappreciated the impact you
- 10:50Speaker 2: have through that repeated process every year, over and over
- 10:54Speaker 2: and and how that how that impacts the.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Whole world really and and the.
- 11:03Speaker 2: You know, so we talked about how you got into it,
- 11:05Speaker 2: what what.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Do you really like about it?
- 11:07Speaker 2: What what is the what is the drawings you back
- 11:11Speaker 2: to do that again?
- 11:12Speaker 1: And again, I think it's because I love the game.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I've always loved the game, you know early, yes, yeah, yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 3: I love the game.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I think it's the greatest game ever. And I agree
- 11:28Speaker 1: with you, I think it's the greatest game ever. And uh,
- 11:34Speaker 1: just to be able, especially.
- 11:37Speaker 3: From the coaching side, just to take a group of
- 11:40Speaker 3: a group of girls and guys and to be able
- 11:45Speaker 3: to it's.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Different coaching men and women.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Well, you know, I bred I thought it was at
- 11:52Speaker 3: one point, and I remember we were talking about Janet
- 11:57Speaker 3: Riggs and I remember Jenna and I was sitting down
- 12:00Speaker 3: in Telsa watching the the boys seem there was a
- 12:04Speaker 3: state at the old Convention Center in Tulsa and uh,
- 12:10Speaker 3: and we were sitting there with coach Epperley and UH,
- 12:15Speaker 3: and I remember Jennet said, Coach Jenna asked me, said, well,
- 12:20Speaker 3: what's the difference between coaching boys and girls. I said, Well, Jennet,
- 12:24Speaker 3: to me, that's not really one. I said, you just
- 12:28Speaker 3: you just teach the kids the game and try to
- 12:32Speaker 3: teach them to play hard and and work together. And
- 12:37Speaker 3: uh and Coach Epley said, he said, yeah, Jenny, he said,
- 12:41Speaker 3: I taught them to work hard.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I said, and that was this, yeah, really important.
- 12:48Speaker 3: And that's not you know, you see some of the
- 12:51Speaker 3: same temperaments that you see on both sides with girls
- 12:55Speaker 3: and with boys.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it thinks a lot of health, discipline and motivation
- 13:02Speaker 2: to work hard, I think, because you know, everybody you
- 13:06Speaker 2: know has stress, gets the energy drops and getting back
- 13:10Speaker 2: up again. Getting taken on that challenge of I've got
- 13:14Speaker 2: you know, and especially when you're doing it for your
- 13:17Speaker 2: teammates and for that.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think.
- 13:20Speaker 2: That's that's a pool too, right, Yes it is, Yes,
- 13:23Speaker 2: it is the Yeah. So you know that's these life
- 13:27Speaker 2: lessons are what we're talking about that you know that
- 13:30Speaker 2: And I've said this story many times, but that was
- 13:33Speaker 2: your foundation of my grandfather's life. And you know, the
- 13:38Speaker 2: opportunity our whole Famili's had in the car business. That's
- 13:42Speaker 2: that sparks picture of he and two of his brothers
- 13:46Speaker 2: on a basketball team in nineteen twenty five, and I
- 13:49Speaker 2: just continually to go back to that and and I'm
- 13:53Speaker 2: just amazed at you know, what happened after that, And
- 13:57Speaker 2: you know, I know that's why he started sponsoring the
- 14:00Speaker 2: baseball team and and devoted a lot.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Of other time to sponsor and other types of sports
- 14:06Speaker 1: and things.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I mean, it was just important to him and and
- 14:10Speaker 2: so we were we.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Love to carry that on.
- 14:12Speaker 2: And you know, the coaches that he had, he talked
- 14:15Speaker 2: about him, you know, throughout his life and to me
- 14:18Speaker 2: as a as a child, I remember following him around
- 14:21Speaker 2: the dealership and and a lot of times he'd be
- 14:24Speaker 2: talking about those experiences on teams when he was younger
- 14:28Speaker 2: with his brothers and and how special that was and
- 14:32Speaker 2: and the stuff he learned about leadership and how and
- 14:36Speaker 2: what it took to to to get back up when
- 14:39Speaker 2: you're when it's hard.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And so you know what.
- 14:47Speaker 2: You're so as you've become involved in the Sports Commission
- 14:50Speaker 2: and you're gonna get ready, you're gonna be honored here.
- 14:53Speaker 2: You have what other thoughts is that brought up? I mean,
- 14:56Speaker 2: it's kind of a unique opportunity, I think, And really.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I guess when it started back in May after talking
- 15:07Speaker 3: to Chris, and you know, my mind just started rolling, rolling,
- 15:11Speaker 3: rolling back to the actual journey and and to this
- 15:19Speaker 3: to this time, all the all the great kids that
- 15:23Speaker 3: are that I've yeah, the great kids that I've had
- 15:27Speaker 3: a chance to work with. Yeah yeah, yeah, the thoughts
- 15:32Speaker 3: and I had to kind of shut my mind off,
- 15:34Speaker 3: like your like, what do I say?
- 15:36Speaker 1: What do I say? And uh, I'm sure it will
- 15:40Speaker 1: come to you. Oh yeah, yeah, it has it.
- 15:44Speaker 3: So that's just reflecting on the beginning and the time
- 15:50Speaker 3: and in the growth and uh, you know, I think you.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Learn a lot.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I've had a chance to to be mentored by great coaches,
- 16:02Speaker 3: great coaches throughout the years, even from the from the start, great.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Friends, And do you want to mention any of them
- 16:11Speaker 1: or mentioned I'll probably mentioned them again. You don't need
- 16:16Speaker 1: to take your speech. That's the purpose of this. No,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I wanted to kind of get a little.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Deeper and and talk about you know, well we won't
- 16:24Speaker 2: have time to right.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Right, and just the growth I think coaching is, it's
- 16:31Speaker 3: something that you grow in you know a lot of
- 16:34Speaker 3: trial and error and uh, you learn from your mistakes
- 16:39Speaker 3: and and you just keep moving, keep moving, you try
- 16:43Speaker 3: to get get better.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And I don't think you can. I don't think you
- 16:49Speaker 1: can ever stop learning.
- 16:50Speaker 2: That's a great coats because it is ever stop learning.
- 16:55Speaker 2: When people feel like they're done with that, it kind
- 16:57Speaker 2: of ends the whole the journey. And yeah, yeah, that's.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I believe in that for sure. Yeah, you know a
- 17:04Speaker 1: little bit.
- 17:05Speaker 2: I got to be firm and no, kind of have
- 17:07Speaker 2: a where you're going, but at the same time be
- 17:09Speaker 2: able to to pivot to judge because life is always
- 17:14Speaker 2: going to put up obstacles and there's new stuff coming
- 17:17Speaker 2: now that's certainly in business we deal with that all
- 17:19Speaker 2: the time. And to adjust and and figure out what's
- 17:23Speaker 2: next and how do we how do we create that
- 17:26Speaker 2: culture that's going to hold it together and really outperform
- 17:31Speaker 2: their competition, so to speak, much like you on a
- 17:35Speaker 2: basketball court and on any on any field or court.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that that's that's really cool.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I got a little bit of business
- 17:47Speaker 2: I want to talk about before we get.
- 17:49Speaker 1: To the very end of the show. You know, it
- 17:51Speaker 1: is the end of the month, and we've got some
- 17:53Speaker 1: cars to sell.
- 17:53Speaker 2: We've got our objectives are in reach, but we we
- 17:57Speaker 2: need a few more folks. So there's great in the
- 18:00Speaker 2: month deals out there on the lot. We've got a
- 18:03Speaker 2: pretty good inventory of Toyotas.
- 18:05Speaker 1: As they as the usual.
- 18:07Speaker 2: They are scarcer than some brands because they're in such
- 18:10Speaker 2: high demand and such.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Great vehicles as they are.
- 18:13Speaker 2: But we've got Prius Toyota Crown, a gr Corolla Premium,
- 18:18Speaker 2: which is a really.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Cool, hot little Corolla. I mean Corolla.
- 18:22Speaker 2: People don't think of it as an aspirational sports car,
- 18:26Speaker 2: but this really truly is, and it's it's it's one
- 18:30Speaker 2: of the fastest Toyotas ever and it's that size that
- 18:34Speaker 2: just handles so well. So it's like one of those
- 18:37Speaker 2: speedy guards on the court that no one can keep
- 18:40Speaker 2: up with. They can dribble like crazy and you know,
- 18:44Speaker 2: runs the fast break like nothing else.
- 18:49Speaker 1: David, Yeah, I know that's uh. You know, body used
- 18:52Speaker 1: to try to keep up with him. Back at the
- 18:55Speaker 1: Boys and Girls Club.
- 18:56Speaker 2: You mentioned your time there, and I know you've you've
- 18:59Speaker 2: helped them out a lot with through the years with
- 19:02Speaker 2: their sports and programs and such. It's a it's a
- 19:05Speaker 2: neat program in our community. And then tacomas. We do
- 19:08Speaker 2: have a great selection of Colomba tacomas right now.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I think five of them on the ground now, uh.
- 19:14Speaker 2: And then Sequaia and Tundra also, and then lots more
- 19:18Speaker 2: coming in. And as always we're looking to supplement our
- 19:23Speaker 2: used car inventory and buying cards uh virtually every day.
- 19:27Speaker 2: If you want to start that process, it's really easy
- 19:30Speaker 2: online to go and get put in a little bit
- 19:32Speaker 2: of information about your vehicle. It'll give you an initial
- 19:35Speaker 2: what they call an instant cash offer on the vehicle,
- 19:38Speaker 2: and then we take it from there and if you
- 19:41Speaker 2: can bring it in we can do an inspection. Often
- 19:43Speaker 2: we can offer quite a bit more money than that
- 19:47Speaker 2: estimate does, and and we try to be you know that.
- 19:52Speaker 1: That Dunge just simple price process people and people.
- 19:56Speaker 2: You know, we were really focused on keeping our buying
- 20:00Speaker 2: experience fast, fun, transparent, feel good for our customers.
- 20:05Speaker 1: We want them to be experience. Thank you, thank you
- 20:09Speaker 1: for that.
- 20:09Speaker 2: You are a great customer of ours. I love seeing
- 20:12Speaker 2: you in the showroom and getting the cans chance to
- 20:15Speaker 2: catch up when you're doing your maintenance, and and I
- 20:18Speaker 2: know and you're always checking on our children, and and
- 20:23Speaker 2: you know, I thank you so much for.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Caring and being loyal to us, and I appreciate that.
- 20:29Speaker 2: The another thing I wanted to mention is I'm going
- 20:32Speaker 2: to be doing the present presentation on Monday at the
- 20:36Speaker 2: Rotary Club, the Noon Rotary Club, my Rotary Club on
- 20:39Speaker 2: the car business past, present and future. And I wanted
- 20:43Speaker 2: to invite listeners to the show to come. If they're
- 20:46Speaker 2: interested in that subject or learning more about Rotary, you
- 20:50Speaker 2: can be my guest and I'll buy your lunch, which
- 20:52Speaker 2: is a nice melodies lunch. If to many of you come,
- 20:56Speaker 2: we'll probably went out, but that would be cool. And
- 21:01Speaker 2: and you can get a chance to find out about
- 21:03Speaker 2: Rotary and what it means to be a small community
- 21:06Speaker 2: based Oklahoma family owned car dealership these days. And you know,
- 21:11Speaker 2: that's something I think about a lot that in transforming
- 21:14Speaker 2: the buying process, I ignore our team. It's really dedicated
- 21:18Speaker 2: to that, and that's you know, continually investing in the
- 21:22Speaker 2: future and in what what's you know to keep us
- 21:25Speaker 2: relevant in this very hyper competitive world with so much change.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Faced with this, I saw the craziest thing I've seen
- 21:33Speaker 2: in the Car Business News this week where something like
- 21:37Speaker 2: ninety eight percent of car dealers were they were card leaders,
- 21:41Speaker 2: were surveyed and ninety eight percent of them thought that
- 21:43Speaker 2: that they would not require employees their dealership within five years.
- 21:49Speaker 2: With AI, I was like, well, I guess I'm in
- 21:53Speaker 2: the two percent as usual.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm in the two percent, not in the
- 21:59Speaker 1: ninety eight. But there's some truth to that.
- 22:02Speaker 2: We're deploying AI throughout our dealership, but really more to
- 22:06Speaker 2: help the people I think. You know, if you imagine
- 22:09Speaker 2: a robot or something fixing a car, they might be
- 22:12Speaker 2: able to do some of it. But the truth is,
- 22:15Speaker 2: you know the decksteriatory required to.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Remove your engine. We'll get around that that.
- 22:21Speaker 2: You know, get into some of these areas requires human hands, right,
- 22:26Speaker 2: It's a robot dribbling a basketball.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I've seen them tribe.
- 22:31Speaker 2: It's it's not they're not very good at it or
- 22:36Speaker 2: or running, you know, and I'm sure they'll get better,
- 22:39Speaker 2: but but it's to.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Me it may take longer than five years.
- 22:44Speaker 2: And we sure, we sure to lean on our people,
- 22:47Speaker 2: make them more efficient and stay up with these transmit
- 22:51Speaker 2: but that that may be pushing it a little bit
- 22:54Speaker 2: too too far from me. Anyway, you know, there's a
- 22:58Speaker 2: lot of exciting stuff me in our business, but hopefully
- 23:02Speaker 2: that's not the case.
- 23:06Speaker 1: So also before we wrap up, there's a busy weekend.
- 23:10Speaker 2: This weekend, there's a lot of great stuff going on
- 23:12Speaker 2: in the community who have concerns annual lip sync battle
- 23:17Speaker 2: on Saturday night as well as woolerockx Calthieves and Outlaws,
- 23:22Speaker 2: and also Bartlesville Civic Ballet has their Dracula or Viola's
- 23:26Speaker 2: Dracula going on Saturday and Sunday. And next week it
- 23:30Speaker 2: is October Fest. So some of our great events in
- 23:34Speaker 2: the fall. And I'm sure I'm leaving people out. I'm sorry.
- 23:38Speaker 2: I tried to get it all, but I never can.
- 23:43Speaker 2: And how I can get back to your story and
- 23:47Speaker 2: you know, is there you know, so of these life
- 23:49Speaker 2: lessons and Eric from your experience, is there anything you
- 23:53Speaker 2: think is really important that people need to know that
- 23:56Speaker 2: would be valuable to share? Kind of a broad question.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I think caring, car I think, you know, I think
- 24:11Speaker 2: the one thing that I that I gained more was
- 24:19Speaker 2: caring about the kids.
- 24:21Speaker 3: That it's hard to coach them if you don't care
- 24:24Speaker 3: about them, not just as athletes, but as as individuals
- 24:32Speaker 3: and as human beings.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Be empathetic.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Hearing about the kids because like you said that they
- 24:42Speaker 3: and getting kids to understand the importance that that whatever
- 24:47Speaker 3: sport they're in, that they can take so many lessons
- 24:52Speaker 3: from it in the next phases of the of their lives.
- 24:56Speaker 1: And sometimes when they're in it, they don't really they're.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Not thinking about that until they reflect on it, sometimes
- 25:03Speaker 2: decades later. I think that's that's that's so true. But
- 25:09Speaker 2: that's a great, a great way to put a caring
- 25:13Speaker 2: I know. Yeah, that's what our customers want most of all,
- 25:18Speaker 2: you know, is you know we care, that we're really
- 25:21Speaker 2: there for them, and you know what, you know, because
- 25:23Speaker 2: we can. We're human and make mistakes, yes, and they're
- 25:27Speaker 2: not going to be perfect. Don't expect anybody to be perfect,
- 25:30Speaker 2: but to care about it. And that probably you know,
- 25:34Speaker 2: that's something you hope to develop in your teams too,
- 25:37Speaker 2: because there that's what that's how you get that team
- 25:42Speaker 2: to work together, right right.
- 25:45Speaker 3: One of I would never forget this one of our
- 25:49Speaker 3: one with the girls, one of the players, she brought
- 25:56Speaker 3: the word synergy to the and so they never escaped me.
- 26:04Speaker 3: That the words sentergy because it's it's about it all
- 26:08Speaker 3: coming together, each part, each part, each part making up
- 26:12Speaker 3: to some total. That that synergy and it's important, you know,
- 26:17Speaker 3: whether you're winning or losing, be.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's we all want to way way competitiveness.
- 26:25Speaker 2: This is a great and great great in our human
- 26:28Speaker 2: nature too. But still we are going to lose. And
- 26:32Speaker 2: you know you get down, get knocked down the seventh time,
- 26:36Speaker 2: get up eight And it's one of my I've got
- 26:38Speaker 2: these fortune cookies I got over twenty years ago that
- 26:42Speaker 2: I sent him to body last week because he was,
- 26:45Speaker 2: you know, having hard, studying hard, and he's not playing
- 26:48Speaker 2: on the soccer team.
- 26:50Speaker 1: It's a challenge.
- 26:50Speaker 2: But one says your president present plans are going to succeed.
- 26:56Speaker 2: The second one says it's time to shake the world.
- 26:59Speaker 2: The third one said as uh, it's uh, your your
- 27:04Speaker 2: path may be difficult, but but it will be rewarding.
- 27:07Speaker 2: And the fourth one says, get knocked down seven times,
- 27:11Speaker 2: get up the eighth and yeah.
- 27:13Speaker 1: It's it's good. I like it. Yeah, it's good. It's good.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Well that that's uh.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I love your how we ended it there and your show,
- 27:21Speaker 2: and this is for me, this is one of our
- 27:23Speaker 2: best shows ever.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And uh, you know, I think, thank.
- 27:27Speaker 2: You, thank you, thank you for coming and sharing your
- 27:31Speaker 2: journey and and values with us. And I know that
- 27:36Speaker 2: that anyway, thank you again.
- 27:38Speaker 1: It's so so valuable, and.
- 27:40Speaker 2: We look forward to honoring you next week and be
- 27:45Speaker 2: there and you'll get a long standing ovation, I'm sure probably.
- 27:52Speaker 1: If they keep clapping. If they keep clapping, I mean
- 27:55Speaker 1: i'd have to speak. That's a good thing. But I'm honored.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I'm humbled and honored, humbled in honored. Well, folks, there
- 28:06Speaker 1: you go.
