Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to the Inside Integration podcast.
- 0:02My name is Chris. I am joined remotely from from
- 0:05another from a faraway land of Maple syrup and socialism.
- 0:10Jason Savage joins us. What's up everybody?
- 0:14I wouldn't say it's, it's not, it's that socialist up here.
- 0:19I'll say there's a lot of pure capitalism going on from the
- 0:22government happening up here. So yeah, you may say, oh, I, I
- 0:29laugh when people are like, oh, I'm going to run away to Canada.
- 0:32And I laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh.
- 0:33I'm like, oh, how do you feel about a 35% effective tax rate?
- 0:39Yeah, let's let's, let's let the let's let soak in a little bit
- 0:43back. Anywho, joining us from a
- 0:46foreign country, we're again show prep meeting on the on the
- 0:51spot here. I guess the big news this week
- 0:54is ISE is going on and you know if if you liked our if you liked
- 1:00our hot takes on CES last week, now it's completely.
- 1:03Useless. Hang on to your hat, we're not
- 1:05going to talk about tapas. Wait till wait till you hear our
- 1:08thoughts on flying to Barcelona for CDA in Europe.
- 1:13Barcelona, Barcelona, however, they say that, yeah, I don't, I
- 1:16don't have AI mean I have a speech impediment, but it
- 1:18doesn't prevent me from rolling my arms, I guess, but.
- 1:21You're just Canadian. Your mouth is made like that.
- 1:24I I saw the TV show I saw, yeah. It's fine.
- 1:26You know how it works. You know how it works.
- 1:27You got my whole head tipped up and down.
- 1:30Yeah. Hey, guy.
- 1:31Yeah, yeah, I see. So, you know, and, and I'm only,
- 1:37this is only fresh on my mind because like my entire team is
- 1:40over in Europe and I'm not, but not not that I'm mad about it at
- 1:45all or anything, but you know, it's, it's it's kind of weird
- 1:50because from everything I've seen, it looks like it's just
- 1:54European Cydia, right? Like integrated systems Expo,
- 1:59right, is what ISC stands for. And it's just kind of the
- 2:03European version of this, right? Am I correct there?
- 2:06Have have you ever been to an ISC?
- 2:08I, I have not been to an ISC and I know that there were the, the
- 2:13years I would see my friends posting, you know, that they're
- 2:16in Amsterdam, you know, eating a space cake or perusing the
- 2:23perusing the red light district, just the window shop just to see
- 2:26what it's all about. Not to, you know, not to
- 2:28participate or anything, right? No, just checking.
- 2:30It out. Just seeing what it's about,
- 2:31just looking, it's just like it was between there and my hotel I
- 2:34had to walk through. Never, Never any debauchery
- 2:37among easy guys at all. So, yeah, yeah, nobody's
- 2:41nobody's ever made a million, you know, hidden blackmail
- 2:46dollars from some photographs, probably some of that like that.
- 2:51But yeah, I've, I've never been over there.
- 2:54But now that it's in Spain, you know, it's completely different
- 2:59vibe, different culture than what you'd have in Holland and,
- 3:01and certainly in Amsterdam. But I I would love to check it
- 3:05out at what I do see on there. And I think about what Europeans
- 3:09are like and what most people's homes are like, like the the
- 3:14select few customers that the some of these integrators must
- 3:18be targeting have got to just be some of the wealthiest who's who
- 3:23of European monies of all time. Because, you know, generally
- 3:28speaking, I don't think most Europeans have got a lot of
- 3:32disposable income. Maybe I'm wrong.
- 3:35Yeah, I mean, I, I would, I would guess so, right.
- 3:37You know, you that, that that tier exists everywhere, you
- 3:40know, and you gotta kind of follow them where they go.
- 3:42It's it's kind of funny to me, like everything I've seen about
- 3:45ISC, it's it's more of a it, it is definitely like a, a CEDIA
- 3:49and CES hybrid, right. So there's more like I'm already
- 3:54I'm just perusing some of the headlines and it looks like
- 3:56there's a lot more esports that is featured at ISC, right.
- 4:00So like, you're not gonna see, you know you're not going to
- 4:02see. Much more prevalent in over than
- 4:04I think with with the racing academies and all of the E
- 4:09sports just in general. Like, I don't, I don't profess
- 4:12to be an expert in any of that, but I do know that there's
- 4:15stadiums full of kids screaming at, you know, a bunch of kids
- 4:18playing PCs. They're.
- 4:19You know. Looking at the TV.
- 4:22All right, yeah. So technical difficulties aside,
- 4:25you know, this is what happens when you're doing a podcast and
- 4:28somebody decides to call your phone that you're connected
- 4:30with, and this shit just drops right off the map.
- 4:33That's what you do. That's how we do things.
- 4:34This is a professional outfit and I would expect this is but
- 4:38professional phone calls while you're doing it.
- 4:40I would, I would absolutely say that our, our six audience
- 4:43members would definitely say that we're professional for
- 4:46sure. But no.
- 4:48So you know what I, what I kind of saw was like, you know, ISC
- 4:51seems like it's, you know, it's, it's definitely so it's between
- 4:56Avixia and Cydia, right? So Avixia is like the commercial
- 5:00variant of Cydia. So there's a lot more, you know,
- 5:04you don't really see any commercial stuff at Cydia Expo,
- 5:07right? Like, and you, you know, you
- 5:09really don't see any of that stuff at all.
- 5:10So I'm sure, you know, there's video conferencing stuff,
- 5:14there's stuff that's more corporate, there's a lot more,
- 5:16you know, 70 Volt kind of stuff and, and that sort of thing,
- 5:20which is which is kind of cool. You know, 'cause it looks like a
- 5:23pretty big ass show. I would, I would imagine, right,
- 5:27you know, and it's, you know, it's, it's one of these things
- 5:30we said it last week, like, OK, well, this this season is here.
- 5:33So, you know, you kind of go right from right from the new
- 5:35year right into ISE and then right into pro source and right
- 5:38into, you know, all of these other, you know, light a Palooza
- 5:41and and everything else. So this is this is kind of a
- 5:44kind of a gnarly time in the industry after just basically
- 5:48being asleep for all of December.
- 5:50Right. Well, it's the last two months
- 5:52of the year, or I mean, sorry, the last, whatever it is, six
- 5:55weeks of the year, nobody wants to talk to you.
- 5:57And then the first, we'll call it, month of the year.
- 6:00Everybody's sort of crawling back out of their shells to
- 6:04like, come back to the universe and figure out, you know, what
- 6:07we're going to do from here. And then, you know, show season
- 6:11kicks off in the spring because everybody's got to either be the
- 6:15first in line or you're going to be, you know, if you're not
- 6:19first or last kind of thing. I think as far as that goes.
- 6:21So it's, you know, it's just part and parcel of all of this.
- 6:27But yeah, I think about, I'm sorry, my mind when I think
- 6:30about ISEI think more. It's like Infocom is my, is my
- 6:35mental correlation because Infocom has all the pro stuff,
- 6:40has the 70 Volt stuff, has the burglar alarm, has the door
- 6:44locks and the cameras and all that stuff.
- 6:47And then has, you know, some kind of layers of residential,
- 6:51but not really, you know, I think CEDIA is actually really
- 6:55specialized and, you know, hyper focused.
- 6:58I mean, that's why we see international travel 2 CD at
- 7:02least in in my my view, my read. Sure, yeah.
- 7:06And and you do, you do get a lot of, you get a lot of, you know,
- 7:10foreign visitors to CDA because yeah, probably it is more
- 7:14directed right. And you know, Denver's really
- 7:16easy to get to from no matter where you are on Earth.
- 7:18It's. Such a fun country to fly to
- 7:20from other places in the world right now.
- 7:22I don't know why. Well, you know, depends on.
- 7:26Challenges. What are you talking about?
- 7:30I don't know. I don't know what I'm talking
- 7:32about because watch. What you say, people?
- 7:34Could be listening to this podcast years from now and be
- 7:36like, what are they talking about?
- 7:37Things are fine. It's great.
- 7:40If anything, years from now, they're listening to this
- 7:42podcast somehow in the ruins of a nuclear apocalypse, and I'm
- 7:47trying to figure out how we're listening to iTunes.
- 7:49Some cyber skull monkey is perusing a hard drive somewhere,
- 7:53finds a find your computer. It's going to, it's going to
- 7:58track down, it's going to listen to this and track down my
- 7:59children or my children's children and probably enslave
- 8:03them, enslave them even harder. What are you?
- 8:06What are you doing to us here? But yeah, I mean, what do you do
- 8:10at IOC in Spain versus what are you doing in Amsterdam?
- 8:14Like, I understand like what the show's about, but I when you
- 8:18travel to cities like that, you're always going to take in
- 8:20the culture. Like, what is the thing if you
- 8:24were at, if you had the choice between these two places, what
- 8:27do you think that you're choosing to do in your off
- 8:30hours? But yeah, I can pick it up from
- 8:43where I was at. Yeah, let's go.
- 8:46Let's do that. OK.
- 8:46We're ready, we're good. Absolutely.
- 8:48All right. So to my earlier point, before I
- 8:52was so rudely interrupted by multiple phone calls to my.
- 8:55Technology I. Got to love it.
- 8:58Between the two cities, what are you spending your time doing in
- 9:01the after hours like Spain versus Amsterdam?
- 9:05Like in your mind, what is the thing that you're like, oh, I'm
- 9:09going to go ride a bicycle over a bridge.
- 9:11I'm going to take like a boat through a canal.
- 9:15I'm going to go eat a bunch of tapas and drink some red wine.
- 9:19Or is that just too reductive? Like, I don't know.
- 9:22I think about kind of some of the simplest pleasures are some
- 9:26of the simplest joys in places like that and kind of wonder
- 9:30like like, is Amsterdam better? Is Spain better?
- 9:33I mean, Spain certainly warmer, but maybe not.
- 9:36It's kind of, it's kind of chilly over there in in January
- 9:38and February still. Yeah, I, I don't know.
- 9:41I mean, I, I would imagine, you know, these are two like world
- 9:44class cities, right? Like this is this is a lot like,
- 9:46like, you know, oh man, you know, what are you going to do
- 9:49in New York versus wow, man, what are you going to do in LA?
- 9:51It's like you're going to find. I mean, there's, you know,
- 9:54there's a whole cottage, there's a whole cottage industry around
- 9:58the Convention Center. There's.
- 9:59Nothing good in LA though. Like I can tell you, I've been
- 10:02there. You need a car.
- 10:05You know, if you've got a car, you got wheels or you got, you
- 10:08know, the means to pay to Uber yourself around, you're good to
- 10:12go. But New York, Oh, yeah, New
- 10:14York, you're in. You're in good shape anywhere
- 10:16you go. New.
- 10:17York's the best. There's nothing, I mean, there's
- 10:18nothing comes close. That was, that was a bad
- 10:20example. That was a.
- 10:21Terrible example, Chris. Try try.
- 10:23Again, you know, if you're well, yes, especially 'cause my, my
- 10:27modus operandi out here is to just tell people how much better
- 10:29the West, the East Coast was. Hell, especially.
- 10:33Oh yeah, Nah. You know, the weather's great,
- 10:35but everything else sucks when I.
- 10:37Tell. Them everything's terrible yeah.
- 10:42All the people are totally hollow and then you know, oh, I
- 10:45forgot I was talking to 8 people from here right, Sorry any who.
- 10:50So, but yeah, it's, you know, and there are, there's, there's
- 10:54a bunch of it's, it's funny, 'cause I'm looking at the, you
- 10:56know, I'm looking at the news and looking at whatever.
- 10:58And, you know, this is, this is Sony's kind of first public show
- 11:02after the whole TCL news and stuff.
- 11:04So I'm sure that's going to be, you know, I'm sure those folks
- 11:08are fielding all kinds of questions and, and whatnot.
- 11:10But, you know, other than that, it's like all the announcements
- 11:13are like, oh, Extron has a new Switcher and, oh, Kramer has
- 11:16this new adapter piece. Like we don't use any of that
- 11:18stuff. Rezi, you know, and I mean,
- 11:22guaranteed, you know, 'cause I, I would say most of you know,
- 11:26most of the custom integration friendly companies, you know,
- 11:28your, your, your Crestron and Savants and, and that kind of
- 11:31thing. They're all, you know, US
- 11:33centric and CEDIA is, is what they do.
- 11:37You know, like that's, that's where the news comes out.
- 11:39That's where the show is. And they're kind of over here in
- 11:42Europe like, well, yeah, I guess we'll send some people over
- 11:46there to, to do something. You know, it's, it does seem
- 11:49like a lot more commercial news coming out of coming out of this
- 11:53because I think, you know, that commercial market is is probably
- 11:56pretty, pretty strong over there and they don't really have, you
- 12:00know, didn't really have anything comparable I would
- 12:02imagine. Oh, yeah.
- 12:03It's, I think, you know, I don't think the residential custom
- 12:06installation channel is nearly as developed in Europe as it is
- 12:10in North America. I think that's a pretty easy
- 12:13statement to make, right. So it would make sense that the
- 12:16show over there is more focused on on commercial type products,
- 12:20but there's an awful lot of people from North America headed
- 12:23over over the Straits of Gibraltar to go see what the
- 12:28heck is going on over there in Barcelona and see what's
- 12:31happening in Spain. So, yeah, I can see that there's
- 12:34got to be there's got to be more happening than I mean, maybe we
- 12:38need to maybe we need to check in with some of our friends that
- 12:40are going to the show and just like find out really like, OK,
- 12:43what what is it about that show? What makes it so special?
- 12:46What, what, you know, why would somebody from North America want
- 12:50to make that trip other than just to go to Spain or just to
- 12:52go to Amsterdam or wherever they're they're hosting it?
- 12:56I think you nailed it. I think, I think at the end of
- 12:58the day, it's like, oh, OK, this is, you know, I can, I could use
- 13:01this as a, as an excuse for a, for a junket and I could, I
- 13:05could go right off. Oh.
- 13:07Yeah, absolutely. We.
- 13:07Solved our own mystery here. Completely now, you know, and I
- 13:12understand, you know, I'm going to talk about our friends here,
- 13:14but you know, I could kind of understand why, you know,
- 13:17Sonnan's is over there because Blaze is a big, it's a huge
- 13:20deal. And Pascal's made in Denmark,
- 13:23right? So.
- 13:24Exactly and that and that's that makes sense there.
- 13:27But you know, for for all for all of the normies.
- 13:31I don't know. I, I don't think so.
- 13:34It it just doesn't as much as I would love to go to Barcelona,
- 13:37it's just very much like, yeah, you know what CD is kind of
- 13:40more. What would you focus?
- 13:42I mean, that's. Paella.
- 13:44I mean, obviously it's just you just inject paella straight into
- 13:47my veins. If if I'm going to be over
- 13:48there. You kidding me?
- 13:51Yeah, I mean, I mean, I'm thinking it's for sure lots of
- 13:55tacos, like lots of tapas, lots of, you know, like open plates,
- 14:00small plates. I mean, come on, just keep the
- 14:02red wine coming. Let's go and.
- 14:03You're and you're not allowed to eat until what, like 9:30 at
- 14:06night? Is that, is that how that works
- 14:07in Spain? Right.
- 14:08It's it's a late, it's a later shift because there's that two
- 14:12hours. I mean, it's like.
- 14:14Miami or something and the same same thing.
- 14:16Like the restaurants aren't doing anything until first
- 14:19reservations at 9:00. Like what are you talking about?
- 14:23Like Sir, we're open till 2:00 AM.
- 14:25It's like, oh, OK, usually. Yeah, I'm sleeping by the time
- 14:29dinner time. No, no thanks.
- 14:30Yeah, thanks. Well, I mean, I got to get up in
- 14:32the morning regardless of what time I went to sleep.
- 14:35That's the problem. So, yeah, so, so absent any, any
- 14:41kind of CI related news coming out of out of CDA or out of
- 14:45sorry ISC, you know what, what, what else is what else is going
- 14:50on in the world that we touched briefly on the on the Sonos
- 14:53multi room thing last time. Confirmed.
- 14:57That's not just a regular product for, you know, the, the
- 15:01regular, you know, regular users, like you have to be a pro
- 15:05to get that thing. And, and if you're interested in
- 15:08one, you have to buy it from a pro, which I don't know.
- 15:10I think, you know, say what you will about Sonos, that's a
- 15:12pretty, that's a pretty strong commitment to to the CDA
- 15:16channel. I would say I.
- 15:18I would agree that the partnership that they have with
- 15:20Sonans as well on the speaker side of things.
- 15:23And I don't think it's a trade industry secret or anything like
- 15:27that. But if you buy the Sonos in
- 15:30ceiling speakers, they are a version of a entry level in
- 15:36ceiling speaker from Sonance, right?
- 15:38So they've got, you know, a EQ pedigree built in, some
- 15:42performance built in and for, for a lot of customers and for a
- 15:47lot of integrators out there, I think that's a really strong
- 15:50opportunity for the, we'll just call it the sub $25,000.
- 15:58Yeah, integration project, which I think has largely dried up for
- 16:03a lot of people. But there's, I know there's
- 16:06certainly customers out there that have an appetite for this
- 16:08stuff and still have the means to be able to go.
- 16:10Yeah, you know, for 10 grand or 7 grand or 8 grand or whatever
- 16:15it is. I want to get a couple of zones
- 16:16of speakers going and, and run it off this amplifier thing.
- 16:20That's a that's a nice opportunity for anybody.
- 16:23Sure. And it gets, you know, that is,
- 16:26you know, as much as as much as you know, a lot of integrators,
- 16:31you know, crap on on Sonos because it's OK, you know, see.
- 16:35Nobody's happy about. Making less money.
- 16:37On a project where I would say that about like.
- 16:39Right. Exactly, lower cost shades or
- 16:41lower cost lighting, but. Right.
- 16:43So maybe this is the entree, you know, maybe this is somebody's
- 16:46entree into in wall speakers and in ceiling speakers.
- 16:49And you know how, you know, maybe we're getting more of, you
- 16:54know, the normies into, into that sort of thing, which is
- 16:58it's just good. It's it's good for everybody.
- 17:00You know, like, oh, yeah, here's an option.
- 17:02I didn't even know that you could put speakers in walls.
- 17:05Believe it or not, there's people in this world who, you
- 17:07know, that's the case. Like, there's people who have
- 17:10gone through their entire lives and said cabinet speakers are
- 17:12the only kind of speakers there are, or, you know, Bose
- 17:15lifestyle cubes or whatever, or. Bluetooth speaker that they're
- 17:18dragging around with them in their pocket.
- 17:20Like, listen how great this is. I'm like, no, it just sounds
- 17:22better than no music in here. Like if that's the only
- 17:27reference, you go, oh, yeah, OK, that sounds OK.
- 17:29And then you actually hear something that sounds good and
- 17:32you go back to that and you're like, oh, turn that.
- 17:34Turn that off. Like what?
- 17:36I think I don't understand that. That's not what I want.
- 17:39Absolutely no. That's I, I think that's an
- 17:42important thing to remember too, is that we need, what we need
- 17:44more than anything in this industry is awareness that we
- 17:46even exist, right? Like, so, you know, all that's
- 17:49going to do is grow the pie. All that's going to do is, you
- 17:52know, make this bigger and, and, and keep it going.
- 17:55And, you know, it's, it's getting, you know, we're, we're,
- 18:01we're at a point where, OK, we're probably going to see a
- 18:04lot of what people think is luxury spending, you know, maybe
- 18:07go by the wayside or whatever. And a bigger pie kind of
- 18:10insulates us from that a little bit, you know, being able to
- 18:12show that, you know, it's not just, it's not just corny stuff,
- 18:17you know, it's, it's actual like, you know.
- 18:23Something that's substantive? Yeah.
- 18:24Something that improves your lifestyle or exactly right or
- 18:28experience. I agree.
- 18:31I think we're going to see more people kind of cocooning as
- 18:35maybe some of the luxury spend for travel and those kinds of
- 18:40things gets eaten up. I, I do see people still having
- 18:44the the want to have some improvements or, or do something
- 18:48to make their lives easier, more enjoyable or yeah, sure we're
- 18:51going to be sticking around the house.
- 18:52Let's make sure we got some tunes and a nice TV to.
- 18:56Well, I mean, if you go by, you know, if you go by what we're
- 18:59starting to hear in the news, it's like if you're locked into
- 19:00your house for a 50 year mortgage, maybe you want to
- 19:05spend that 50 years making it nice. 50 year mortgage.
- 19:09Man, that was like I almost drove off the road when I heard
- 19:12that. I remember hearing when I was a
- 19:14kid, people were like, yeah, people never pay off their
- 19:16mortgages. 30 years, that's what?
- 19:18Are you crazy? I'm not going to live that long.
- 19:23That's my angle. I was thinking, Oh well, I went
- 19:26in in my 20s, you know, now shit.
- 19:28I mean, I'd be AI, don't that thing outright.
- 19:30I mean, I'd be in Central Florida still, but that's a
- 19:32whole other still. You know.
- 19:34Could be worse. Could.
- 19:36Be worse. You you could do a lot worse.
- 19:37You could do a lot worse. But yeah, you know, I mean,
- 19:40maybe, you know, maybe this is the thing, right?
- 19:42Like, so it's funny because there was a there was a big boom
- 19:46when everybody was stuck at home during a pandemic and there
- 19:48weren't enough, you know, you couldn't find enough, you know,
- 19:52qualified people to do it. And there was a ton of work and
- 19:54basically the opposite of what everybody thought it was going
- 19:57to be, right? Like every, everybody nested,
- 20:00everybody did home improvement projects.
- 20:01You couldn't find a contractor to save your life.
- 20:03It was, you know, it was a total, total disaster and nobody
- 20:06could, you know, people couldn't do it fast enough.
- 20:08And now we're dragging everybody back into the office.
- 20:11So we're starting to see this, you know, at least one of the
- 20:14things that that that I'm seeing is you're starting to see a lot
- 20:17more commercial, right? Like, you know, a lot of
- 20:19commercial stuffs going in. And now it's like, all right,
- 20:21well, every company's got a most.
- 20:25You know, the worst companies have a return to office mandate
- 20:28and that's a pretty, pretty standard thing, you know, across
- 20:31the world. So people are coming back and
- 20:34it's like, well, you know, I haven't really been in an office
- 20:35for the last three years and like this is all kind of out of
- 20:38date. Like I had a better set up at
- 20:39home. So now you're seeing more
- 20:42commercial stuff like, all right, well, hey, maybe we need
- 20:45some more collaborative stuff. And you know, maybe we need, you
- 20:47know, if we're, if we're dragging people into, you know,
- 20:50if we're dragging people into offices for useless Zoom calls
- 20:53that they can take at their dining room table, but now we're
- 20:55making them take it in a conference room.
- 20:57Maybe we should have a good set up in the conference room,
- 20:59right? That's.
- 21:00Yeah, I, I, I agree. I think there's opportunities
- 21:04out there and it's been perennially kind of proven that.
- 21:08I mean, when 2008 happened in the residential market started
- 21:12to turn into a big old goose egg, commercial market started
- 21:16to expand wildly for some reason.
- 21:18And it's just because that's still where the money was.
- 21:22It's still where the projects are and, and those timelines
- 21:24don't end or you know, they, they don't have hard stops.
- 21:26So those budgets are a lot more secure.
- 21:30Yeah. And you know, I mean, that's
- 21:32that's an Ave. too, you know, for for all you integrators out
- 21:35there, you know, resumercial is a terrible word, but it is a
- 21:39very descriptive and and pretty sound process.
- 21:43It's. It's an appropriate.
- 21:45It's appropriately named for for many reasons.
- 21:48Well. And, and it could start with
- 21:50something as simple as like, you know, if you've got a builder
- 21:52that you do work with pretty constantly and you're in his
- 21:55office and, you know, he's got a space that could, you know,
- 21:58maybe you suggest like, hey, you need better, you know, you need
- 22:01a better network in here or you need better Wi-Fi in here.
- 22:03Or, you know, what if we, what if we put a big ass display up
- 22:07on here so that you can show, you know, clients digital
- 22:10blueprints without them having to squint and get it right up on
- 22:13it. Like, you know, there's, there's
- 22:14opportunities out there. If you know that are that are
- 22:18related to Rezi, you know let's do a get your lawyer.
- 22:21'S office in your office so we can look at these plans.
- 22:24Absolutely, you know, and you know, set up a set up a pretty
- 22:28decent like, you know, some music throughout the space,
- 22:32right, like contribute to the vibe at work.
- 22:34Why not? We're we're available for hire
- 22:37and consulting. Just give it a out there.
- 22:41Something tells me like as I scroll through and and and I
- 22:44listen. I'm not, don't, don't take this
- 22:46as me just totally shitting on consultants, but I have a
- 22:49feeling that sometimes when I scroll through LinkedIn where,
- 22:52you know, I'm seeing all these like, you know, consultants who
- 22:56sold their AV business and now are consulting or whatever.
- 22:59It's just all shit like that. It's like, hey, well, maybe you
- 23:02should take on more jobs. Like, thanks.
- 23:03That's a great, you know, insight that you've just
- 23:05provided. Oh, you know, maybe maybe
- 23:07instead of just doing, you know, maybe instead of just doing
- 23:10residential jobs, maybe you do a little bit of commercial.
- 23:13It's like, oh, thanks. Yeah, That's, that's this has
- 23:16been helpful. Don't you go.
- 23:17Mow some yards while you're out there and do some landscape
- 23:20jobs. I just got a feeling that
- 23:22there's a lot of, I don't know, there's a lot of, there's a lot
- 23:25of recycled information that kind of goes out there, there.
- 23:29Might be you know. People, people are, people seem
- 23:33to feel like they're entitled to, to make a living based on
- 23:36the knowledge that they and everybody else has acquired over
- 23:40over time. It's like, all right.
- 23:42Well, yeah. I will say, I think that there's
- 23:46yeah, there's, there's some, there are some value to share
- 23:49experience. And I would certainly say that,
- 23:53you know, you, you should go in with your eyes open into any
- 23:57sort of consultancy agreement just because the person that's
- 24:01consulting with you has a vested interest in, in profiting from
- 24:04sharing information with you. What whatever that happens to
- 24:07be, doesn't, doesn't necessarily make it bad or skew it or, you
- 24:11know, evaluate. But, you know, I also think that
- 24:15some people go into consultancy thinking like this people, these
- 24:19people are going to solve all my problems.
- 24:21And chances are, you know, they, it's like bar rescue or
- 24:25something. They're the problem.
- 24:28Well, and I think, I think that's why that segment exists
- 24:31in a large part is that, you know, when you're when you, you
- 24:34know, most people can kind of identify just based on vibes
- 24:36that hey, there's a problem, you know, and maybe they're not
- 24:40willing to be introspective and, and see that the problem is them
- 24:44and they need to change. So, you know, it's the old saw
- 24:49of like, I'm just going to throw money at this thing and figure
- 24:52out, you know, OK, that's at least now I feel like I've done
- 24:55something. So I don't, I don't know.
- 24:58It's don't, don't let me make you think that I'm.
- 25:02I'm against all consultants. Are you?
- 25:03Making veiled threats at consultants in our industry,
- 25:06Chris not. Not even at all like if.
- 25:08I mean if. I ever just where.
- 25:10Do you think I'm going that's? The first place we need to call
- 25:12and make some apologies, like what's going on?
- 25:15No, absolutely. Maybe it's what was that?
- 25:20What was that show from? It was on Showtime that Don
- 25:24Cheadle was in it. What is it?
- 25:25House of Lies? You ever watch that show?
- 25:27It's about, it's about a group of consultants and basically,
- 25:32you know, maybe maybe that's where I've gotten my ideas of
- 25:35what consultancy is all about because it's just basically,
- 25:38yeah, we just go in and, you know, fire everybody, you know,
- 25:43make, make that line go back up because we've, you know, reduced
- 25:46our, our head count and salary count and, and, and go from
- 25:49there. Found profit.
- 25:51Look at all that found money. That's, I mean, it kind of feels
- 25:54that way, right? Yeah.
- 25:55But yeah, House of Lies, I highly suggest it.
- 25:56It's fantastic. Don Cheadle is amazing.
- 25:59I'll have to. Put that on the list as always.
- 26:01It's it's a good one and Ben Schwartz is in it too.
- 26:04If you're, if you know who Ben Schwartz is.
- 26:07But yeah, fan fantastic. But yeah, maybe not, you know,
- 26:11maybe don't take that as, you know, what consultancy is all
- 26:14about, because there are definitely people who are, you
- 26:16know, helpful and, and, and well-intentioned and everything
- 26:19else. But there's a lot of people out
- 26:21there who I look at this and I'm like, yeah, I who's taking
- 26:27advice from this guy. Like, what the fuck?
- 26:30Like, come on, Jesus, man. Like, what are you going to do
- 26:34anyway? But yeah, hey, maybe that's just
- 26:37my my well. Maybe they'll all be at ISC and
- 26:40you know you can. You could go and get consulted
- 26:45with in Europe over some tapas and red wine and some BBQ.
- 26:49What are you? Doing market research, All
- 26:52right, yeah, let's. Write off So let's try the
- 26:54Barolo. We go to Delicious.
- 26:57Fair enough. So I I you know, I mean that
- 26:59might be that might be enough time whining about us not going
- 27:02to ISC because this is very this is a very sour grapes.
- 27:05I was. Going to say it sounds like
- 27:07somebody's a little miffed that their dance they didn't get a
- 27:10little stamp on their passport. I'm not miffed at all.
- 27:13I, I could, I mean, it would be, it would be dope to go, but I, I
- 27:16did not want to go. But yeah, man, it's yeah, you
- 27:21know, stay, stay here, stay in your own country, make it better
- 27:24here. But well, I think that's, I
- 27:29mean, I think that's good with all the, all the with.
- 27:31All the technical difficulties and some obviously deep planning
- 27:37on our part for this episode. We should probably just cut our
- 27:41losses, but. It's been, it's been super busy
- 27:44this week. I don't have anything prepared,
- 27:46you know, so it'll. Be it'll be more exciting next
- 27:49week, so buckle up, buttercup. Is that is that when the tell
- 27:52all is is going to Yeah, I. Think I think so I'll be able to
- 27:55do it. I'll be able to do it actually
- 27:57from, not to find a time to do it from from sight, but.
- 28:03OK, we'll. We'll, we'll work that out.
- 28:05We'll make it work. I'll I'll come up with a nice
- 28:07list of leading questions that you know, we'll get in there and
- 28:13it's gonna be great. Anywho, yeah.
- 28:16So again, thanks as always for joining us.
