- 1:53Moments on the Maori. Everybody back in the house
- 1:57tonight. How is everyone?
- 1:59Look at us. Look at us.
- 2:02I'm cold, bro. I'm cold.
- 2:04It's a it's a ice rink in my yard.
- 2:09Not a joke, not a joke. How has everybody survived?
- 2:14Because it got as South as Huntsville.
- 2:16I know it hit here in Richmond, Shelton.
- 2:19I'm not sure if you're in Richmond or back in
- 2:20Williamsburg. It hit everybody wherever we
- 2:23were sitting, but it has been extremely cold and extremely
- 2:26nasty for the last five days. Yeah, it got cold here.
- 2:34It's been gross. But tally.
- 2:36I was just saying got cold here, but I mean, we had like a little
- 2:40light dusting, but nothing, nothing compared to what I've
- 2:45been seeing and being our neighbors to the North Tennessee
- 2:48has been they got they got hit pretty good.
- 2:51So thank the Lord we didn't have no, you know, nothing that
- 2:54really impeded school and caused us caused us not to.
- 3:01I think we kind of shut down one day for work, but nothing,
- 3:04nothing for real. Sean, what about you, man?
- 3:09Are you down in Williamsburg or are you back in the RBA
- 3:11currently? Yeah, I'm back in Williamsburg,
- 3:14you know, been been travelling a lot.
- 3:16We went to a went to a place called Dunn, NC a couple weeks
- 3:20ago. I would not.
- 3:20I know about Dunn. What about Dunn?
- 3:22About Dunn. We know about Dunn.
- 3:25OK, well it's it's not a place I'd recommend to put on your
- 3:28itinerary, but. I agree with you, but I.
- 3:31Mean, I was not sad. I was not sad to leave, no
- 3:34offense. What's wrong with Dunn Man
- 3:35North? Carolina.
- 3:36He was done with Dunn. It's literally.
- 3:42Little sketch, but. Little little sketch redneck
- 3:45town low off 95 in the southern part of North Carolina.
- 3:50Sketch and redneck, two things I don't need to be a part of.
- 3:54Hey, good on good on Harnett County baby.
- 3:57Good Harley. Not a lot, man, Not a lot.
- 4:02Yeah, but I've just been, I've just been working.
- 4:03We'll start up with baseball season here pretty soon.
- 4:06Excited for college baseball to be back just like that.
- 4:09So yeah, things are things are good.
- 4:13Good deal and staying warm. I hope no power losses anything
- 4:16like that down there. No power losses.
- 4:19I feel like the the storm is maybe blown a little bit out of
- 4:23proportion, at least depending on where you live.
- 4:24I know like Tally said, simply got hit pretty hard, but you
- 4:27know, we were mostly pretty good.
- 4:30Like there wasn't one thing going on here.
- 4:32Yeah. For, for here and and down
- 4:34there, y'all, you know you're 5060 miles east of RBA.
- 4:38It was a perfect scenario, a perfect case scenario because
- 4:43the snow that came through on on Saturday night, Sunday morning
- 4:48was the dustiest snow I think I've ever seen in my life.
- 4:52Living in Virginia, usually Virginia, we get wet snow.
- 4:57It's heavy, it hangs on trees. You could throw it up.
- 5:00The kids want to make snowballs Sunday morning.
- 5:02They're trying and I'm like, y'all, it ain't, it ain't going
- 5:05to make snowballs. Like ain't no water in it.
- 5:08And then the subsequent sleeping ice.
- 5:10I mean, Brian said that my driveway is a ice rink.
- 5:15It is. It's great to sled on because
- 5:17Monday night, me and the neighbors here, we all got out
- 5:20there. We were drinking some angels
- 5:21envy and hotty toddies and sledding down the hill had the
- 5:26had the big fire pit going out front here.
- 5:28Brian man, all the boys, all the boys in the Wilds came out.
- 5:32So it was a good. Time we've this week so far,
- 5:35we've already had two kids from from wide school come over for
- 5:39sled. Do you know I mean Curtis, you
- 5:40know that I got a little nice little slope in the backyard.
- 5:43You have a good slope. It's been good sledding man.
- 5:46They've had a good time with it. I did want to throw some fun
- 5:50facts at you since you you you threw we we we got a done
- 5:54reference out here. We're talking about Harnett
- 5:56County. Raise your hand if you are a red
- 5:59link or good mythical morning fan.
- 6:02Anybody in this house if you are that's that's where they grew
- 6:06up. So fun fact, they're right in
- 6:09between Raleigh and Fayetteville there.
- 6:11So fun. Fun little.
- 6:15Fun. Little John South of Benson,
- 6:18North Carolina played by I think we did at least once a year as a
- 6:21child for you know greens down there with of course the
- 6:25operation was already on this weekend with weather I hope to
- 6:29snow and this is Randall seriously, man, I I'm done with
- 6:34it I'm done I. Anticipate at least another 3
- 6:37inches. I know.
- 6:39And but then it's going to be normal.
- 6:40It's going to get warm again and hopefully winter's freaking over
- 6:44because I'm done with it. And I'm sure Shelton, who's
- 6:47going to be doing baseball shortly, is done with it because
- 6:51I don't know how heated the press boxes are or where you
- 6:54have to be there in games. Cold baseball games are just in
- 6:58tally. You said.
- 6:59Look, he's shaking his head because he sat in a mini with
- 7:01his son. Cold baseball games suck.
- 7:05What's up man suck. It's not supposed to be played
- 7:09in the cold. No, it's not supposed to be
- 7:11played in either the hot or the nice, not the cold wheel.
- 7:16Tally our our boy Will's here and he wants to know about
- 7:18mullets and tight end play. I like mullets, man.
- 7:21I like mullets. I think we should put cowboy Cal
- 7:24collars on all of them and give them some numbers in the 90s or
- 7:28something like that. Some numbers in the 90s.
- 7:30Cowboy collars and then take their knuckles.
- 7:34Tape to knuckles then. We got then we got Robbie Bacon,
- 7:36the three inch reference here, So. 3 inches.
- 7:39Oh, man. All right, So what are we
- 7:42getting into tonight? Well, we got a few things done.
- 7:45Well, we are going to talk about the schedule.
- 7:47Don't worry. We've dissected it.
- 7:49We've made decisions. People have been texting us
- 7:52asking us what game is we going to.
- 7:54First of all, it's it's January. That them decisions ain't made
- 7:58till like summertime. What my bank account looks like.
- 8:00We're going to talk about the additions to the portal because
- 8:03we had that huge episode 2 weeks ago, but we had even more portal
- 8:08entries from tech or to tech I should say.
- 8:12Going to talk about the rounding out of the staff from tech to a
- 8:16couple guys left. Out of play.
- 8:17Oh, look. You know what, Devin Elvis went.
- 8:19Devin Elvis went to Hawaii. Yeah.
- 8:22He went to Hawaii. You.
- 8:23Know what I mean? Do what you got to do weather
- 8:26wise. You've got the right idea.
- 8:29Everything else, not so much. But.
- 8:31Yeah. And then we're going to talk
- 8:32about the rounding out of the staff as as everybody's seen
- 8:35over the last few weeks, effectively the last three guys
- 8:39were named. So we're going to just hit on
- 8:41those. But we are going to start off
- 8:43tonight that with Shelton. Shelton had not been around for
- 8:47a couple weeks. He'd been travelling.
- 8:49He spoke at his alma mater last time we were together.
- 8:51But if y'all have not read his article on the key play that he
- 8:56put out last week. Great article, great article
- 9:00and. We're going to give right there.
- 9:02Go ahead and hit that if you haven't had a chance to check it
- 9:05out yet. Yeah, check it out, Subscribe
- 9:07just for Sheldon's right, and it's well worth it.
- 9:09But we're going to give Shelton a little corner here, Give him a
- 9:12little time to talk about that article, what went into it,
- 9:15because it is really good. And it raises a lot of points
- 9:18about the state of college sports and football and college
- 9:21football specifically. Go ahead, Shelton.
- 9:24Well, thank you all. It is a free article, by the
- 9:26way, so you do not have to have a subscription to read it.
- 9:29So everyone checks it out. But it was something that, you
- 9:31know, had been on my mind for quite a bit.
- 9:33And I was, I was glad that Indiana won the title to, you
- 9:36know, vindicate my thesis. So really, I, I start with a
- 9:40referral question. Why not Virginia Tech?
- 9:43Why not us? Indiana's won a national title.
- 9:45And so the simple question we can ask is, hey, why not the
- 9:48Hokies? And I think fans of, you know,
- 9:50all, you know, programs can be actually the same thing, like if
- 9:52we have the right investment, if we have the right leaders,
- 9:54leadership, why can we not win a national title as well, at least
- 9:57compete for one, certainly. So I start off with, you know,
- 10:00the following. Look at historically, you know,
- 10:04Indiana's national title is completely unprecedented in the
- 10:07context of who they are as a program, not just in college
- 10:10football, but also in pretty much all of the major college
- 10:12sports. And we'll have a graphic up here
- 10:14in a second to show that. But First off, they're the first
- 10:17program to win the first netty since Florida in 1996.
- 10:20That's a 30 year job that the second longest drought among all
- 10:23NCAA sports. I believe there are 38
- 10:25championship sports, I'm not mistaken.
- 10:27So again, this stuff does not happen, especially in the sport
- 10:29of football, which is so, you know, dominated by, you know, a
- 10:32handful of select programs and you look at the worst ever
- 10:35championship wing programs. This is the five marquee sports,
- 10:38the five most watched sports, football, both basketball,
- 10:41baseball and softball. They get the best TV rating.
- 10:43So I looked at all the programs that have won a national title
- 10:46in those sports and sort of then by the worst win percentage you
- 10:49can see there in the end of the worst team to ever win a
- 10:51national title among all of those sports.
- 10:54So again you see the numbers there, 430 all time win
- 10:56percentage. You know typically you almost
- 10:58have to be above 500 and then the 8th percentile among all FBS
- 11:01programs. Somebody in the comments point
- 11:04out to me that I was missing ice hockey.
- 11:06Apparently UMass ice hockey team has been really bad, but they
- 11:08won national a few years ago. Sorry to any of the ice hockey
- 11:11fans out there, it was not on my radar, but next time I do it,
- 11:13I'll I'll give them a shout out. So but point being, you know,
- 11:17Indiana, it just it just does not happen where a team that is
- 11:21this bad for this long wins the national title.
- 11:23And so that's why, you know, people like myself and Bill
- 11:26Connolly does. The ratings for SP plus ESPN
- 11:29have just been mouth a gate at what the Hoosiers have
- 11:31accomplished this year because it is just so unprecedented in
- 11:35the landscape of college football.
- 11:37And so continuing on, you know, I talked about the SEC.
- 11:39We know that the SEC is not quite what it used to be.
- 11:42I think you could still argue that they might be, you know,
- 11:44the the deepest conference from top to bottom.
- 11:47But the fact is they do not have the juggernaut programs that
- 11:50they used to. The Big 10 has clearly taken
- 11:52that mantle. But even then, I don't think the
- 11:54last three national championships between, you know,
- 11:55Michigan House and Indiana have been all that dominant from a
- 11:58historical standpoint. Now, as far as the SEC goes, you
- 12:02know, people will make jokes about them.
- 12:03You know, you know, they, they used to be players.
- 12:05Now that everyone can be players, they kind of lost their
- 12:07advantage. I think it's a little bit
- 12:09overstated. I think it has more to do with
- 12:10the transfer portal, you know, because college football, we're
- 12:13creating a stroke that has been, you know, defined by geographic
- 12:16proximity to talent, the South winds because they have access
- 12:19to the best players. And once those players in the
- 12:22old days joined the program, they couldn't leave.
- 12:24We were just talking before we came on about how LM and back in
- 12:272016 had a running back score that consisted of, I'll pull it
- 12:31up here, Damien Harris, Beau Scarborough and the third guy
- 12:37freaking his. Name.
- 12:38Scott Jacobs Yeah. So just, you know, their ability
- 12:42to stockpile talent was pretty unprecedented, and that is not
- 12:46going to happen again. So the SEC has kind of lost
- 12:48their recruiting edge, and that's given to a more of a
- 12:50window for teams like, of course, in the Big 10, but
- 12:52certainly in the ACC as well. So, you know, that's one thing.
- 12:56And then just kind of, you know, put a little bit of a cap on it,
- 13:00you know, talk about how there's always been ebbs and flows in
- 13:03the in the history of Constable, you know, errors of parody,
- 13:06errors where it's dominated by blue bloods, you know, and, and
- 13:09things kind of go back and forth.
- 13:10I think we're living in an age where there's going to be more
- 13:12parody. And so, you know, when you look
- 13:14at a guy like James Franklin, his resume at Penn State speaks
- 13:17for itself. You know, consistently turning
- 13:20out ten win seasons, won a Big 10 title at Penn State back in
- 13:232016, Took the Nitty Lions to the semi final back in 2024
- 13:29before they lost in heartbreaking fashion.
- 13:30Notre Dame. So they were driving away from
- 13:32playing for a national title. That's the coach that is
- 13:34coaching at Virginia Tech, you know, so when I say that Virgin
- 13:38Tech is now capable of winning national championship, I don't
- 13:40want people to think that I'm saying it's easy or that it will
- 13:42happen. You know, maybe they get to the
- 13:44semi final and they lose in heartbreaking fashion and that's
- 13:47fine. That's just the way it goes
- 13:48sometimes. But the key point I want to make
- 13:50in this article on what I want to stress to the fans at home is
- 13:53now Virgin Tech has a chance. The one thing that college
- 13:56football has been missing for the past 25 years is hope, the
- 13:59belief that your team is capable of playing for something
- 14:01meaningful, capable of playing for a championship.
- 14:03That's what's been missing the sport for the past 20 or 30
- 14:06years. And so I'm so grateful for for
- 14:08Indiana, not just happy for their fans, but happy for my
- 14:11sport, mainly that every fan base in America, to varying
- 14:14degrees, now has the the internal belief that they're
- 14:17capable of winning a championship.
- 14:18And I think it's a beautiful thing.
- 14:20And I'm, I'm just very glad that the the Hoosiers won and
- 14:23certainly hopeful for for the Hokies.
- 14:25We're pretty blessed I got coming in that they could do
- 14:27some pretty good, pretty good things here.
- 14:29Us coming up here under James Franklin.
- 14:31Yeah. And it's interesting because,
- 14:34you know, this wasn't a, you know, this wasn't a product of
- 14:37the playoff, right? This wasn't a team that like
- 14:40stuck into a playoff and got hot and made a run.
- 14:43This is a team that was consistently good throughout the
- 14:47duration of the 2025 season and capped it off by winning the
- 14:51whole thing. Yeah, that's the big thing
- 14:55because that, I mean, this is Indiana we're talking about.
- 14:57It's not like, you know, oh, they snuck in because they had a
- 15:00few good wins here at the end of the season.
- 15:02And, you know, it wasn't a situation like the, you know,
- 15:05ACC potentially had where you might have a, you know, some
- 15:09team that probably didn't deserve it representing you in
- 15:11the in the playoff. Like it wasn't any of that
- 15:13scenario. They were on, on the field and
- 15:17on paper the best team in college football all year.
- 15:21And then they won it all. Yeah.
- 15:23It's, it's, that's one way to think about it.
- 15:27But Sheldon, I think you're right.
- 15:28Because what we've had really the last three years is
- 15:32different because go back year 1, Michigan, Michigan win a
- 15:36national title. Michigan hadn't won a national
- 15:38title since 1996. Sheldon was not alive yet.
- 15:42Me and Tally and Brian were causing trouble in middle
- 15:45school. Ohio State the next year and
- 15:48everybody, the Ohio State's great Ohio State won a national
- 15:51title in 11 years, right? Right.
- 15:54They hadn't won a national title since 2014.
- 15:57Indiana had never won a national title to where we're putting it
- 16:01that in Miami they played in that title game.
- 16:03The last time they played in the title game was close to 24 years
- 16:07ago. I reflect back my time as a
- 16:09youth and thinking about the early 90s, and that's when I
- 16:12cultivated my love for college football. 90 was Georgia Tech
- 16:16and Colorado. Neither had never won it. 1991
- 16:20was Washington had not won it. Skip 92, go. 93 was Florida
- 16:24State, 94 was Nebraska, 95 was Nebraska.
- 16:28Nebraska hadn't won a title since the 70s, since the 1970s.
- 16:32Twenty plus years. Did you mention that Florida in
- 16:3596 in in in. 97 was Michigan, but it had been forever for
- 16:41Michigan. Our and I think.
- 16:43What you're saying is we're back into that stretch again.
- 16:46Where? Everything seems level, and as
- 16:50we look just at the Hokies this year into what Tal you're
- 16:54probably going to talk about. Is stockpiling talents gone?
- 16:58You know why the kids want to play?
- 17:01The kids know they're going to get money from schools.
- 17:03So are you going to sit for three years behind somebody and
- 17:08you're not going to get paid? That is one thing that is going
- 17:11to happen. They might pay to get you in the
- 17:12door but after a couple years they're going to be like you're
- 17:15you're not getting 600,000 anymore where I was.
- 17:21Going to say that the big thing that like with that is that, you
- 17:24know, you got teams that used to could throw what, 50K?
- 17:32It's a kid a year and they'd they'd sit behind somebody else,
- 17:37whether back door, front door, side door, they they they'd sit
- 17:40behind someone for two or three years because they weren't
- 17:43getting that anywhere else. Now they can go and get paid
- 17:46100203100K to be a starter for this other team and not that
- 17:515060 K that they were getting to to be a second or third Stringer
- 17:56behind another five star. Now facts, facts.
- 18:01When Shelton started reading off like he was saying he was
- 18:03reading the running back room from from Alabama.
- 18:07I think it was 2016 and I was just saying you could go look at
- 18:10their most of their positions, but definitely running back from
- 18:15like, I don't know, 2014 to 2017, something like that.
- 18:21And it was just, you know, ridiculous, the ridiculous
- 18:25amount of talent that they had and were able to stockpile in
- 18:28those rooms. And like Sheldon said, they
- 18:32won't be able to do that anymore.
- 18:33No school because nobody's going to sit and wait #1 but also
- 18:39going to not go get paid because they can go to the school down
- 18:44the road and get paid more money and probably play and, you know,
- 18:49get that feeling and get, you know, live out the dream.
- 18:51So why not us? Great, great job.
- 18:56I shall not. When I read that it was, I
- 19:00wouldn't say it's exactly what I was thinking, but once I read,
- 19:03it got me to thinking a lot about what could be and putting
- 19:08things in perspective. Seeing it on paper, it's like,
- 19:12you know, I could see if we take the right approach and do this
- 19:16thing the right way, Why? Why couldn't it be us?
- 19:19Because nobody knew who Kurt Signetti was three years ago.
- 19:23Five years ago, you know, they might have knew who he was, but
- 19:26really, who knew who he was now? Now he's won the national
- 19:31championships. Yeah.
- 19:33And you know, I mean, Curtis mentioned Michigan's title.
- 19:36Yeah, I remember a couple years ago before they won.
- 19:37And I was like, you know, think about how broken college
- 19:40football is, where a program like Michigan, who is
- 19:42objectively one of the the biggest brands in American
- 19:45sports, has not won a title in 30 years.
- 19:47And we feel like, and we we almost kind of look at them like
- 19:49this kind of plucky underdog. I think the issue with college
- 19:52football over the past couple of decades is that it became so
- 19:54regional. It was all in the South.
- 19:55It was all the SEC. And we can talk about, you know,
- 19:58the reason for that, but. But, you know, now we're seeing
- 20:01us becoming more national and, and it's about, you know, again,
- 20:03leadership, getting the right guy.
- 20:05And you still got to have the boosters, you still got to have
- 20:06the donor base. But it's, it's not defined by,
- 20:10you know, geographic proximity of talent OR having the right
- 20:12boosters or you're having the brand or the prestige or playing
- 20:15in Death Valley. It's it's not about that.
- 20:17It's just about having the right people.
- 20:18And so I think what, what I hope that we can, you know, have
- 20:21going forward is more of a meritocracy where, you know,
- 20:24again, James Franklin's kind of showing the results.
- 20:26He flipped a horrible recruiting class into a top 25 high school
- 20:29class. He's got from a top 10 to top 20
- 20:32transportal class. I haven't checked the numbers
- 20:33recently. I know they, you know, kind of
- 20:35fluctuate face on the site, but he's giving you the results.
- 20:38We've got the players, we've just got to develop them and
- 20:41keep them. And if we do that, I think the
- 20:43really, really awesome things are are capable of being
- 20:45accomplished hold. On I'm going to get it up for
- 20:47you just so you know where where they are with the transfer
- 20:51rankings. Few days ago it was pretty high.
- 20:56Oh my God, it's going. To.
- 20:59Be a pain in the ass. And I also, so while, while,
- 21:03while you're doing that, I will say one more thing.
- 21:05You know, I, I know that people look at Penn State as a, as a,
- 21:08as a very high profile program, and certainly they are.
- 21:10But I don't think the gap between Penn State and Virginia
- 21:14Tech is as deep as people think it is, or at least some people
- 21:17think it is. Certainly not the, the, the lion
- 21:19fans. You know, they're both, they're
- 21:21in some ways they're actually pretty comparable.
- 21:22I mean, they're both very small towns, not particularly near
- 21:25anything, you know, a few hours from the major metro areas.
- 21:29They both got a very football centric, passionate fan base
- 21:32that's, you know, got, you know, good money, but not elite money.
- 21:35And they've historically both played second fiddle to the top
- 21:38two programs in their conference, Michigan, Ohio
- 21:40State, and for us, Clemson and Florida State.
- 21:42So we look at it that way like I, I think it's a pretty
- 21:45comparable fit. So, so I don't think that what
- 21:47Franklin did at Penn State is, you know, like that he can't
- 21:52isn't capable of achieving that here at Virginia Tech.
- 21:55And apparently we have the better airport.
- 21:57We have the much better airport and we're closer to and actually
- 21:59a bigger airport with Roanoke Regional, what, 3540 minutes
- 22:03down the road Currently that transfer class is 6th on on
- 22:08three and I'm going to I like 247.
- 22:10I love them attaining all those guys, but I don't like their
- 22:13rankings because their rankings never account who went out.
- 22:16What Virginia Tech brought in is so much better than what they
- 22:20put out. Like you got to look at Penn
- 22:23State, their high end talents gone.
- 22:25They brought in all those. State.
- 22:28Players, which they're good football players, but nowhere
- 22:30near the ceiling of the Penn State guys that Franklin brought
- 22:35down and some of the other guys he brought down like a Hilson.
- 22:40Because that that. I think that's tally.
- 22:41That's your kind of prime point, right?
- 22:43Even though he was at Missouri, Hilson was a borderline super
- 22:46high 4 star, almost 5. He's not getting playing time.
- 22:50So he just basically said, OK, they're going to give me money,
- 22:53I'm probably going to start. I'm going there.
- 22:56Well, the way you can look at these rankings is you can look
- 22:59at 24/7 sports as having the basically the, the raw in
- 23:06numbers, right? Like, so we're 18th nationally
- 23:08in terms of just the players we're bringing in, but we are,
- 23:12what would you say, 3rd, 4th, 4th?
- 23:146th. 6th OK 6th in terms of net talent in the transfer.
- 23:19Net talent gained, Yeah. Guess who's number one?
- 23:23Who's that? She's #1, Indiana.
- 23:26Indiana, Yeah, I. Was going.
- 23:30To say. Texas Tech.
- 23:33But if you got great, yeah, if you got in the hot tub time
- 23:36machine and you went back five years and and you seen yourself
- 23:44and your buddies watching college football and you said,
- 23:47hey, I'm from the future and Indiana's going to be the team
- 23:50to beat in 2026, how do you think people would have looked
- 23:55at you? They had a stare at you cross
- 23:57eyed, and you're going to tell them they beat Penn State, they
- 23:59beat Ohio State. Who else did they beat?
- 24:02NDJ. They're going to beat.
- 24:03Alabama, Miami, They're. Going to beat Miami.
- 24:06I'm missing one. What was the other one?
- 24:08And they're going to beat Oregon.
- 24:09Oregon, twice. Killed Oregon.
- 24:11Killed Oregon the second time by 30.
- 24:14Could have been 50, but it won't.
- 24:16But nobody would have believed. It but but but.
- 24:18To to Shun's point, as we kind of close this up before we move
- 24:21on, it's like, why not? You're, you're 100% right.
- 24:25We are now in an era with Indiana winning with it looking
- 24:30like you can be anything, right? You don't have to read the
- 24:35traditional blue, but you don't have to be the constant solid
- 24:38school. You can be anything and
- 24:40potentially win the title. And to a point, we can hate them
- 24:45all we want, but to the point with Miami getting there shows
- 24:49you if you can just get in, have a couple, you can have a couple
- 24:53Boo boos during the season, just get in.
- 24:59That's all. That's all we ever wanted.
- 25:02I know as a fan, they were. I still believe that 2005 team,
- 25:07Sheldon, you were little but boys.
- 25:09I still believe the 2005 team could have beat anybody in the
- 25:12country that year, anybody in the country No 5.
- 25:17I would say that I would say the O the O 9 not to get, I would
- 25:19say the O nine team, they're actually more slept on, one of
- 25:22the more slept on BT teams. Statistically, they were.
- 25:26But the whole. Thing is we look back through
- 25:28our history and you feel like for 15 years there there was
- 25:31like if we could have just had a chance to play three games in a
- 25:33row, right? Just give us a chance to play
- 25:36three games in a row, we could probably be the anybody in the
- 25:38country. So there we go Sheldon, great
- 25:41article. If y'all have not checked it
- 25:43out, go to the key, play John Shelton's name.
- 25:46Why not? Virginia Tech?
- 25:48Great article. Read up on it.
- 25:50Now let's flip it over because to get to where you want to go,
- 25:54you got to have a schedule. And that schedule dropped just
- 25:59the other day. And I'm sure everybody's seen it
- 26:03and I'm sure you've been picking it over too, but just to
- 26:06highlight it real quick. Start.
- 26:09September 5th versus VMI Home, then the next week Old Dominion,
- 26:14then Maryland and then it's an ace.
- 26:15It's a non game. ACC slate at Boston College,
- 26:19Pitt at home, Cal at Cal, Georgia Tech at home, Clemson
- 26:24and Clemson, SMU and Dallas, Stanford at home, Miami down in
- 26:29Miami, and then finally Virginia at Lane Stadium for the
- 26:34Commonwealth Cup. So I'm going to ask my crew
- 26:37this. Were y'all completely shocked
- 26:40that they didn't double tap us for long distance road trip
- 26:43back-to-back? They like James.
- 26:47I knew it was good they. Say they bring you some star
- 26:52power to the ACC. We're helping.
- 26:54Them, he is the darling. We're going to be the darling of
- 26:57the ACC media day, so I figured they was going to show us a
- 27:00little love. We just need the players to
- 27:02perform now, get a little love, perform when it's time to
- 27:05perform. Wrong.
- 27:07Were you shot? Because the way that schedule
- 27:09set up, we have 4 extremely long road trips.
- 27:14This year I was very concerned. I mean it, it's one of those
- 27:18things you lose a home game and you get a long road trip added
- 27:21to the schedule in place of it because of the going to the 9
- 27:24conference game. So automatic, You're like, all
- 27:27right, they're going to they're going to fuck us some way on
- 27:29this and and the way things were kind of stacked, I was like,
- 27:33we're going to get at least get one of those back-to-back or
- 27:35like coming off of a Thursday game into a long travel the next
- 27:39week. So you have a travel Thursday
- 27:41you get you get the the half by but it you still got
- 27:44back-to-back long travel didn't get any of that.
- 27:48I'm really pleasantly surprised. And another thing that we can
- 27:52talk about too is that we've got a lot of talented, but you know,
- 27:58younger kids that are coming in with this transfer portal class.
- 28:01With the way that a lot of this roster on the non retention side
- 28:05is stacking up, the schedule ramps up pretty slowly where
- 28:13where you where you get time to gel before you really get into
- 28:16the meat of the schedule. So that also bodes well for a
- 28:21team where a lot of the core is going to be on the younger side.
- 28:25Yeah, Sheldon, were you shocked that they didn't back-to-back
- 28:30long distant road trip the Hookies this year?
- 28:34No, honestly, I, I wasn't really thinking about it, honestly.
- 28:37Like I'd be curious to know like if, if the schedule is like has
- 28:41like some level of like, you know, computer generator
- 28:44randomness or if like they're actually like picking every
- 28:46game. Like I, I really don't know,
- 28:47because I know that like, you know, in pro sports, typically
- 28:49it's kind of like a, you know, it's like a computer that does
- 28:52it. So I'd just be curious to know
- 28:54that because if, if there's someone is actually like behind
- 28:56the, you know, pulling the strings, you know, what kind of
- 28:59biases would they have, you know, towards certain schools?
- 29:02But yeah, I mean, it's honestly like, it's not, it's a pretty
- 29:05solid schedule. Like, you know, you obviously
- 29:07don't like having to, you know, add on SMU there because that's
- 29:09going to be a tough game. But I mean, you know, yeah, Cal,
- 29:14that'll be after a Friday night game.
- 29:16So you got an extra day there to prepare for that one and travel.
- 29:18So that's that's that's good. SMU don't know if that's going
- 29:22to be Friday or Saturday, so TV there.
- 29:25That's coming off the bat. Either way, that's coming off
- 29:28the bat. Yeah.
- 29:29So it's so. Yeah, Yeah.
- 29:32So you you're to. Your point?
- 29:33You've got an extra day for the Cal trip and you're going to
- 29:36get, you're coming off the bat for the SMU trip, whether it's
- 29:39Friday or Saturday, so you're going to have plenty of time to
- 29:41prepare for it. I was shocked because I remember
- 29:45what they did two years ago, remember what they did two years
- 29:47ago when they sent us to Miami on a Friday night and then the
- 29:51next week they sent us out to Stanford.
- 29:54Like. That's that's what I fully was
- 29:56expecting like you're going to go to BC and then you're going
- 29:58to go to Cal the next week so screw y'all.
- 30:02Even with that being said, look it up.
- 30:07Tech is going to travel like the third most miles this year of
- 30:12any ACC school. The other two ACC schools are
- 30:15the western schools. So they are going to be on a
- 30:18plane a ton, but I was a little bit shocked.
- 30:21So I'm I'm I'm I'm going to be interested to see how that all
- 30:27plays out. Not having things like that to
- 30:30be as to just to be as you know, roadblocks for this team this
- 30:37year. All right, VMI, Old Dominion,
- 30:42Pitt, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Virginia, Shelton Moss.
- 30:48Give me one word to describe those six home games.
- 30:55Whelming, I mean, I don't know I under whelming, but whelming is
- 31:01that I don't know there's a word.
- 31:03I don't know that's. Why?
- 31:04But I like it a lot. I'd say I'm whelmed.
- 31:07I mean, I like Georgia Tech. That'll be interesting.
- 31:11I got, I got some, a lot of thoughts on BMI and, you know,
- 31:17Stanford man UVA like it's just, yeah, it's it's a pretty
- 31:20forgettable schedule. Like, you know, it's you're,
- 31:22you're not going to remember a lot of these games, you know, a
- 31:25few years from now. Like I just yeah, welding is a
- 31:29word. What's your take on VMI?
- 31:30I know you got some part of VMI, just just wondering.
- 31:34Yeah. So, yeah, for those who don't
- 31:35know, I'm, I'm AVMI fan, so I, you know, add the disc number
- 31:38there. I I was not a fan of playing the
- 31:41game just because I think, you know, first of all, it'd be a
- 31:43loss for VMI, obviously, but also, like, you know, it's going
- 31:47to be a really, really uncompetitive matchup.
- 31:48Even an average FCS team will be able to challenge Vt more than
- 31:51VMI will. I mean, this is going to be a
- 31:53111 team that's going to be losing pretty much all of its
- 31:56best players from last year, New coaching staff coming from AD 2
- 31:59school. Remember that VMI can't really
- 32:01get transfers at all. Hardly.
- 32:04So yeah, it's, it's going to be a bloodbath.
- 32:06And I just, I just don't think a game like that does anything for
- 32:08VTi Know they want to start the Franklin Air with a win.
- 32:11I think relative to the value of keeping the GMU game.
- 32:15I just, I just disagree with I, I understand their, their
- 32:17thought process of like, you know, let's get a get an easy
- 32:20win, kind of get the ball rolling here.
- 32:21I just, I just prefer that that that game not be played.
- 32:24I know there's some tradition there, but that's my that's my
- 32:26opinion. Hey, it is a tradition.
- 32:28That's why Skipper was made. Tally one word for that home
- 32:32slate. Dubs OK wins that's.
- 32:37What we going to get, that's what we need.
- 32:40So that's part of whelming is AW, you know, it's it is part of
- 32:45that. Yeah.
- 32:48Brian. Before I give mine, I'm going to
- 32:51give, I'm going to give a little props to Sheldon for
- 32:53inadvertently quoting Gabrielle Union from 10 Things I Hate
- 32:57About You. So bravo.
- 33:00I didn't know that me. Neither.
- 33:03That's what I'm saying. That's why I said this was
- 33:04inadvertent. I was absolutely certain that
- 33:06was inadvertent lackluster, but I think that might be a good
- 33:12thing. When you look at what we got
- 33:16here, you know, to Tally's point, you know, Pitt's probably
- 33:20going to be the toughest home game.
- 33:22If you know, just looking at what they were able to do last
- 33:26year, kind of some of the things that have happened on Georgia
- 33:29Tech's front, from an overall staff and roster standpoint,
- 33:34Pitt's probably going to be the best team we play at home.
- 33:38That's not knocking Virginia. I'm just not going to give them
- 33:41props until they show me they can do it more than one fucking
- 33:43year. So there we go.
- 33:46All right. What I'll say is affordable
- 33:56because if you want to get to some home games in the first
- 33:58year, James Franklin, it's not that slate where people are
- 34:01going to go nuts. So selling the tickets, if that
- 34:05Clemson game was that BT this year at Tech this year, buckle
- 34:12up because that thing would go through the roof.
- 34:14And as you get the FS us and if the Miami was a home game this
- 34:17year and we did anything of the sort, you wouldn't be able to
- 34:21get it. So for everybody out there, I'm
- 34:23I'm being very cost conscious. It's affordable.
- 34:25If you want to go see James Franklin in his first year at
- 34:29Lane Stadium, I don't think you're going to have to pay
- 34:31through your nose. You'll have to pay a good price,
- 34:33but not through your nose like it could be.
- 34:37All right. Shout out to Shout out to Curtis
- 34:40for standing up for the working class.
- 34:41I appreciate that, Curtis. Standing up for the working
- 34:46class, you know. What directing that towards me
- 34:48We. We, we, we might all be able to
- 34:50go to a game again at the same time.
- 34:53Going to schedule. Maybe.
- 34:55Maybe. Maybe.
- 34:57All right, so look at the schedule and just kind of glance
- 35:01through it boys. As y'all are looking through it,
- 35:05what game? And I'll start this one with
- 35:07tally. What game with where it's at on
- 35:11the schedule. Do you just fucking hate?
- 35:12Just like why is that got to be right there?
- 35:18It's not so much of where it is, but how it is.
- 35:23The SMU game, just because I was thinking about going to Dallas,
- 35:28but then they hit me with that flex bullshit and it's like it's
- 35:33going to be expensive for me to go to Dallas anyway, right, Yes.
- 35:37I don't know if I need to be going to be there for a Friday
- 35:40or Saturday. Just give me a date, man.
- 35:44So that game is very. Personal with tally.
- 35:47That game was that game was, yeah, it was.
- 35:50It was next. Before it even started.
- 35:53I was like, oh, I'm done. I can't do that flex stuff, you
- 35:56know what I'm saying? I need it to be a certain date.
- 35:58But yeah, probably that probably that game was the one I looked
- 36:02at and it kind of threw me off a little bit just because of that.
- 36:06Not saying I I carefully play on a Friday or Saturday, but it's
- 36:10just like I needed it to be a definite one for that one.
- 36:14Because when I looked at the schedule or hurt, you know,
- 36:17seeing who we were playing, it was like that was probably the
- 36:21place that I wanted to visit the most.
- 36:24Trying to get to a home game and an away game this year and
- 36:30that's not it. Brian.
- 36:36Which one am I most excited about?
- 36:37Which? One I'm no, no, no, no, no, no
- 36:40Halley's mad about the way that game is scheduled because he
- 36:43can't make fucking planes What game and where it's scheduled.
- 36:47Do you hate? This was not.
- 36:48He's not hating about anything for the team.
- 36:50He just hates. He wants to go to Dallas to the
- 36:52game and they didn't screwed him.
- 36:54It's very personal with tally. It's not even a very.
- 36:56Personal. I get that.
- 36:57I get that. It ain't got to be about.
- 36:59The team, it can be about personal, it can be about the
- 37:03team, but what game with where it's scheduled do you hate?
- 37:10I'm not a big fan of having Miami and Virginia back-to-back.
- 37:19You, you know you're going to be you're going to be up, you're
- 37:21going to be high for for that Miami game.
- 37:24It's on the road win or lose that there's going to be a lot
- 37:27of motions, there's going to be a lot of lot of effort expelled
- 37:31in that match up. I know you get a bonus day
- 37:35between the game that you wouldn't get otherwise, but
- 37:38having those two rivalry games back-to-back, that, that's a
- 37:44whole lot of juice to use in two weeks.
- 37:48Shelton what game with where it is on the schedule do you
- 37:52absolutely hate? Well, well, well, yeah.
- 38:01I'd I'd probably I'd probably go well.
- 38:07Nice. I mean, I guess, I guess Clemson
- 38:10SMU back-to-back, that's going to be pretty tough, you know, to
- 38:13like, granted, we don't know how Clem, how good Clemson's going
- 38:16to be or you know, a lot of other teams, frankly, for, you
- 38:18know, for that matter, just with, you know, the the
- 38:20volatility year to year. But assuming that Clemson's got
- 38:23a solid team, which I think they probably will, you know, playing
- 38:26them on the road and then having to go back potentially on a
- 38:28Friday night. So again, potentially short
- 38:30rest. No, no, no.
- 38:31It's not short rest. Oh, that's.
- 38:34Right, that's about it. I'm.
- 38:37Having. To change, but I'm going to
- 38:40change. My answer, so I got I got to, I
- 38:42got to change my answer. I mean, honestly, like Curtis,
- 38:43like it's not I really don't have an issue too much with the
- 38:47structural schedule. Like I, I think, I think it's
- 38:49pretty, I think it's pretty favorable.
- 38:51But I think it's the VMI game because he.
- 38:52Didn't want to play the VMI game.
- 38:54There you go. He already, he already protested
- 38:56his hate for that. But I think Shelton, Shelton,
- 38:58you're right. Like it's not too much that you
- 39:01could say about the schedule where it's like it's stacking
- 39:04back-to-back or anything like that.
- 39:05I will say this, I don't like where the SMU game is.
- 39:10I would, after playing Clemson, regardless of the result of that
- 39:14game, I would want to be right out there because if they go
- 39:17down to Death Valley and win, it's the role of it's the wave
- 39:21of emotions, right? But if they lose and it's a
- 39:24tight game, you also get right back on the field.
- 39:26Like you just played with the team you know has a lot of
- 39:29talent. The next team you play will not
- 39:31have enough talent. You should be able to beat them
- 39:33instead. What if there is momentum going
- 39:36after that game? It's going to effectively be
- 39:38killed by Halloween. It's going to put my hands up.
- 39:41So I don't like the way that scheduled.
- 39:43I'd rather have fucking Stanford after Clemson if there's a
- 39:46break. So that's where I am.
- 39:49You don't get to ride the highs and you don't get to be.
- 39:52If you get right back. On the border.
- 39:55Yeah, exactly. 1000% Ron. All right.
- 39:58Last one here, we always talk about stretches of the season.
- 40:04What is y'all feel the toughest 3 game stretch whether there's a
- 40:07break in between or not for this team?
- 40:10Bronzey Gala. Toughest 3 game stretch three
- 40:18games. I'm going to have to go that
- 40:21Georgia Tech through SMU regardless of the the bye
- 40:24weekend there. I know I, I, I caveat it earlier
- 40:28that Georgia Tech probably isn't going to be the team we saw this
- 40:31year in 2026. They're still going to be a
- 40:34solid team. They have a very good head
- 40:35coach. I think they're going to be
- 40:38every bit of a, you know, upper tier ACC opponent this year.
- 40:44I just don't think they're quite going to have the singular
- 40:48talent of at the quarterback position and I don't think
- 40:51they're quite going to be as deep as they've been these last
- 40:54couple years across the board. So you got them, you know,
- 40:58Clemson's going to at least have a, again, another, yeah, top
- 41:02three, top four ACC team heading into 2026.
- 41:07And SMU is probably going to be right there as well.
- 41:09So you're talking about at least the top, you know, 5 or 6 ACC
- 41:14opponent followed by two top four top five ACC opponents.
- 41:18So. Plus since using the portal for
- 41:20once they got they got double digit players out of the portal
- 41:24this year. You know how bad double is right
- 41:27now? Double I.
- 41:29Have to adapt. I can't, I can't launder players
- 41:32through my my church. Have y'all been seeing?
- 41:35Have y'all been seeing and talk about the older you know what
- 41:38the Ole Miss? Oh yeah.
- 41:40He been mad. I'm talking about went down a a
- 41:45daily routine of what was going on at 4:15.
- 41:49He went to class at 416. He used the bathroom while he
- 41:53got a text message. He he about to shut this thing
- 41:58down by itself. He ain't playing it.
- 42:01He ain't playing with that tampering stuff.
- 42:08Sheldon, I'm gonna I'm gonna let you go next.
- 42:11What? What's the toughest 3 game
- 42:13stretch? I'd probably say, honestly, I
- 42:20might go Cal George Deck Clemson just because again, like, you
- 42:26know, Cal again, they may not be great, but it's if you're taking
- 42:29a 5 hour flight, you know, it's, it's, you know, potentially if
- 42:34it's a night game, you got the PAC 12 after dark vibes, you
- 42:37know, spooky things can happen. Those are always just very weird
- 42:40vibes games that you know, can can, you know, kind of catch you
- 42:43off guard. The Georgia Tech, I know they
- 42:46lost a lot from last year, but you know, they, they still got a
- 42:48good coach, you know, and again, like I said, Clemson, we we
- 42:52haven't beaten Clemson since what, 2007 I think.
- 42:55That's crazy. Yeah.
- 42:57So, you know, and maybe maybe they have a bounce back here.
- 43:00Like I just, you know, that that step of stretch, especially
- 43:03mid-october where where you're kind of, you know, testing your
- 43:05depth chart because I don't think, you know, we don't know
- 43:07if the Hoagies love a particularly deep team this
- 43:09year. That's where you kind of really
- 43:11sort of see what she was made of.
- 43:13And and I think that's the kind of spot where, you know,
- 43:15typically some past tech teams have kind of, you know, wilted
- 43:17away. So we'll see how all plays out.
- 43:19But that's one stretch where, you know, I'd be be a little bit
- 43:22concerned. That that's the stretch too,
- 43:25Sheldon, to your point, like if you, you know, I could look at
- 43:29this schedule the way it's stacking up and you can see
- 43:32potentially if things go the way you want them to, Virginia Tech
- 43:35going into Clemson with an unblemished record or you can
- 43:39see them going in there with two or three losses.
- 43:42It really just kind of depends on how that that second stretch
- 43:45runs. So as to your point, that's a
- 43:46really important stretch for them, especially as those
- 43:48injuries set in all. Right Tyler, what about you?
- 43:52Toughest 3 game stretch? I would have said the first
- 43:56three games, but Shell just told me all the reasons why Vietnam
- 44:00is is is not going to be any kind of threat.
- 44:04You still have to show you still have to show a certain style of
- 44:09win in that game when we play them.
- 44:11But I'll say ODU, Maryland and Boston College.
- 44:15And the reason I say those games is because if you don't get off,
- 44:19if you don't have the foundation set for what people supposed to
- 44:23expect from Virginia Tech and James Franklin, things are going
- 44:28to look a lot different for the rest of the year because we know
- 44:30how the fan base will turn on you.
- 44:32You know what I'm saying? They don't care about them high
- 44:36profile coach. They don't care about stars or
- 44:40none of that stuff. They keep people want to see
- 44:43wins. And then I'm talking about
- 44:44people who are paying. So it's OK to roll out a great,
- 44:49you know, a great plan and hey, let's raise money to do this and
- 44:53let's do that. But if we go out and we don't
- 44:56win these games, those first three games, you got ODU.
- 44:59Who is Ricky? Ricky Ryan has shown, has shown
- 45:03that he can coach. I've never known anybody on his
- 45:06teams, but they always find a way to kick our ass or, you
- 45:11know, make it a game. So I'm sure he's going to put a
- 45:14team together that is going to be, you know, somewhat
- 45:18competitive, which is who we're going to be fighting with for
- 45:22recruits, you know, in that area and the last time we played.
- 45:27Maryland, we remember. What that looked like, you know,
- 45:30nobody cares who played and who didn't play.
- 45:32They just remember what the score was.
- 45:35And then you go up to Boston College.
- 45:37You know, we never know. We never know what.
- 45:40We get when. We go up there so those three
- 45:42games, because you should be 1 and O going into those three
- 45:47games. And then it comes down to
- 45:51finding out what kind of team we really have because if we can,
- 45:56we got a lot of unknowns. I know we're going to get a
- 45:58little bit into the different rooms and things like.
- 46:01That but. In my opinion, everything's
- 46:04unknown with this team. Everything is is is brand new.
- 46:08There's a lot of potential with minimal production, so that's
- 46:14what we need to. See what we have and.
- 46:16Then that'll tell me what we going to do against.
- 46:19Clemson or what we're. Going to do against Miami and
- 46:23later on in the year, but we got to start off on the right foot.
- 46:27So those three games. You, you, you.
- 46:30Kind of stole my answer because I do think.
- 46:33It's the first three games because how they fire out and I
- 46:36know Shelton, you've already said VMI is not a good team.
- 46:41Cover your. Ear Shelton.
- 46:43I want to see him hang 60. I want it to be a bloodbath.
- 46:47I want it to be crush of soul and then the next two games same
- 46:51way. Because that's the momentum,
- 46:54right? Regardless who you're playing
- 46:56those first three games, if they go out and just knock the crap
- 46:59out of those three teams. And you're.
- 47:01Three and O going into Boston College, first ACC game, they're
- 47:06going to come up on game day and it's going to be like Genie
- 47:10Texter. You know, I'm not the Boston
- 47:12College place where they have problems.
- 47:13You're going to start getting mentions.
- 47:16You, you, you, you kill. BMI but then.
- 47:19Struggling those next two but get wins is this same old crap.
- 47:23They can't they. They get to a different team.
- 47:25So I think the first 3 because you want to come out guns
- 47:28blazing, guns blazing and putting people on notice when I
- 47:32say James Franklin, Ricky Ronnie's boy, right?
- 47:35He coached with him. James, if we are 4210, you got
- 47:39to try to get 50 on his ass that last quarter.
- 47:42Yeah, somebody was. I was talking with somebody.
- 47:45I can't remember who was maybe Quest and they was like, I don't
- 47:48think that they're going to try to, you know, if we get up on
- 47:51ODUI don't think they're going to try to run the score up.
- 47:53I said Ricky got prop fired, came in his house drunk all of
- 48:01his Kool-aid, kicked over the BBQ grill and then told.
- 48:07Him, he wasn't paying his rent. And they come and escorted him
- 48:10out. So I don't think it's a world
- 48:13where if we're if we up on ODU that they're going to be like
- 48:16how we need to rein back now. Pretty sure they're going to
- 48:19want to kick their ass. I know Brian is.
- 48:21So I think with what what my boy say on remember the Titans, you
- 48:27blitz all night, blitz all. No doubt, leave no doubt.
- 48:34So there's a schedule, you know, and just our quick takes on, you
- 48:39know, some of the the pieces of how we feel and all that fun
- 48:42stuff because it is a long time away now.
- 48:47Let's just hit a couple real quick things.
- 48:49Before we get to talking to the portal and then the coaches, but
- 48:54you know, I saw it announced a little earlier this week, the
- 48:57ACC title game is no longer going to be a night game.
- 49:01So Tally got to remember. That now it's not a night game
- 49:05anymore. So you cannot drive the day of
- 49:09from Huntsville to Charlotte because we know that's a
- 49:11legitimate Dr. you can make in a day.
- 49:14You can't do that no more. But what do y'all think of it?
- 49:17Like this is the way I remember the ACC, Brian, me and you
- 49:21sitting in my college apartment hanging, slinging bears at noon
- 49:25and 1:00, getting drunk, watching the ACC title game.
- 49:29Include Miami the first year because that was a 12:00 game
- 49:31and we'd be dimped for the ACC title.
- 49:33What did you think of it? I think it's a solid.
- 49:37Move. I think having a a, a solo a a a
- 49:41prime spot in the slate for those championship games is a
- 49:48good showcase for the conference.
- 49:50I think that's a better showcase for the conference than sharing
- 49:54a prime time spot. You know, I think a lot of.
- 50:00It's going to depend on what what?
- 50:02What the ACC does with it, whether they continue to
- 50:04capitalize off what Miami was able to do this year and as to
- 50:09whether, you know, that really matters long term.
- 50:13But it's nice to see you getting a.
- 50:18Slot that I think makes. Sense for the ACC and you're not
- 50:21competing against the Big 10 or the SEC for those eyes and you
- 50:26can kind of marquee the teams that have done well in your
- 50:29conference for the year, especially after, like I said,
- 50:31what we saw with Miami this year talking about not competing.
- 50:35And. Getting those eyes too.
- 50:37What you think about the potential of three Friday games?
- 50:43Are we a high school Are. We a high school team.
- 50:46Or are we just trying to get eyes?
- 50:48Can. I get eyes because.
- 50:50That those Friday games, even the ones when we're not playing
- 50:53good teams, it's still upper, upper 1,000,000, close to two.
- 50:58That Friday, that Friday game against Miami two years ago was
- 51:02the third highest watch game all week.
- 51:05All week. Like the only two games.
- 51:07It was like Georgia. And I.
- 51:08Want to say Georgia and Bama were like that next Saturday and
- 51:12then a Big 10 game was it? I'm I'm fine with Friday games.
- 51:16I also. Like it too that if they play it
- 51:19right and you get a Friday game before like effectively a big
- 51:23game, you get that one extra day of rest and prep.
- 51:26So I'm I like it. Let me throw this out there is
- 51:29Friday the new? Thursday with the NFL having the
- 51:32Thursday night slot games now, yes, we're all shaking out here.
- 51:36That's freaking lutely. Sheldon, what about you do?
- 51:39You like? The move to make it easier for
- 51:42you. Harder.
- 51:43For you, I do not care at all. All I care about is is 2 things,
- 51:47one that is from Charlotte so I can eventually go to it, and two
- 51:50that we're fucking playing in it.
- 51:52That's all I care about. There we go, they can play at.
- 51:55Nine in the. Morning, if we there, I'm going
- 51:56to. Be there, put my shirt off, my
- 51:59areola's painted. Areola's painted.
- 52:05There we go. All.
- 52:07Right, let's let's talk about the portal before we get into
- 52:10the new additions to the portal. Kamara and Morgan, the edge it
- 52:15was coming out from Baylor unfortunately could not meet
- 52:19admissions. Therefore believe that's the
- 52:22story, right, He could meet admissions.
- 52:24Well, I want to say that's the case because he has.
- 52:26Not committed anywhere. Else there was a credit
- 52:28conflict. Well, it makes me question.
- 52:31What? What does Baylor give their
- 52:35incoming? Freshman.
- 52:36Football players the first year because if my kids going.
- 52:40To Baylor, and he's a good. Player and he might play good or
- 52:44get isolated on him for the second year.
- 52:46Better put him on some plastidetal transfer.
- 52:50That's a weed. Let's.
- 52:52Get weed, ain't nobody. They wanted to hold up for
- 52:55Kyron. Drones so yeah, but Kyron had
- 52:58been there 2. Years.
- 52:59Remember that. Kyron had been there two years.
- 53:01I'll give you. You've got to at least.
- 53:03Take like Econ. 100 by that point in time, but it's it's a.
- 53:09Loss right it. Sucks because that kid.
- 53:11Looks like a beast in every shape.
- 53:14And form so. Yeah, I, I, I was, I got.
- 53:18We said it last time he was on there.
- 53:19I think the very next day is when the the news came out like
- 53:24he, he was the guy I was most pumped about on from the
- 53:26transfer port on the defensive side.
- 53:28Now we'll say we're we'll talk about a second the ultimate
- 53:31pivot that we got off that is about as good as I could have
- 53:33hoped for. Not a lot, not a lot.
- 53:36Tally. Sheldon, Sheldon, I know you
- 53:38have not been as deep in the recruiting world, but so if, if,
- 53:42if you need to abstain, you may abstain.
- 53:44Tally any field before we get into.
- 53:47These the the. Guys who are here in class
- 53:51running and pushing weights. I try not to get too hype about
- 53:57it. You know, right now I need, I
- 53:59need us to, you know, I need to see who really going to be.
- 54:03Here before I get too. High, but I was bummed whenever
- 54:08whenever we lost the the the bail of the and I was I was
- 54:11pretty bummed about that. But like Brian said, the pivot
- 54:13was kind of cool and it was quick too.
- 54:16You know what I'm saying? It was like we didn't wait a
- 54:18long time. OK, James, I see you got a
- 54:20little juice. I like it.
- 54:22They said James on the sleeping about 3-4 hours a night.
- 54:25So hey man, I. Get it?
- 54:28I need you to. Stay happy though man.
- 54:30Take your wife out, call Cheetah and see what he did a little
- 54:33bit. Don't be just like him but you
- 54:36know still go out every nine. Then enjoy your wife.
- 54:40But James has been working, he said.
- 54:42He ain't got no hobbies. All he doing is working
- 54:46football. All right, I'm going to put 2.
- 54:48Things in the chat so y'all can shuffle.
- 54:51First of all, this is clearly. What Kamara Morgan was.
- 54:55Taking at Baylor. And then you know what?
- 55:01Last month. Got a strategy here?
- 55:02You got a kid that you definitely want to keep.
- 55:06Don't let them play. Put them in classes.
- 55:10You know what? 15.
- 55:11What 15 classes that tech doesn't transfer these?
- 55:14That's what you took in the first year?
- 55:15Shout out Laszlo. Shout out Laszlo Shelton
- 55:18Shelton. Has to go here in a second, but
- 55:20Shelton just you know, give me your just quick overall take
- 55:24because the the portal is officially well it's if we're
- 55:28not done, it might be 1. Guy at it, but that's not
- 55:30looking. Like a Gale, but just you've.
- 55:33I know you've been. Busy but just following it.
- 55:36What's your overall take on it? Yeah.
- 55:39So my overall take is. Really just from a?
- 55:41A roster construction standpoint, the one thing that I
- 55:43really like that that Franklin did is, you know, stock up on
- 55:46some some younger guys, guys have multiple years of
- 55:48eligibility and we see lots of freshmen retro freshmen
- 55:50software's in there. So I think that's a really good,
- 55:52you know, kind of long term development move.
- 55:54Obviously, you know, Franklin's talked a lot about, you know,
- 55:56still wanting to be a developmental partner.
- 55:58I think the the mistake a lot of, you know, coaches and this
- 56:01is true for all sports. I've heard some coaches say this
- 56:03is that, you know, they, they very much over line the portal
- 56:07And so they take a bunch of guys that, you know, are older and
- 56:10more experienced, but you know, they they've kind of hit their
- 56:12ceiling. And when those guys leave, if
- 56:14they don't have, you know, more than, you know, one or two years
- 56:17of eligibility, you've got to replace those holes the next
- 56:20year or the year after that. And so if you take guys that you
- 56:22know, one, are, are talented enough, but also, you know, can
- 56:25be the program for multiple seasons, ideally two or three,
- 56:28you're able to, you know, I guess more effectively a rebuild
- 56:32because you don't have to you don't have to constantly be
- 56:34replacing those holes. So I like what Franklin's done
- 56:37so far. Obviously he got, you know,
- 56:38grunk at quarterback, Quayshawn Brown from Duke, the wide
- 56:41receiver. I really like him.
- 56:42I I'm very happy with that pick up.
- 56:44I think he's going to be a stud And, you know, overall they can
- 56:47do a little bit more on the lines, but but I think, you
- 56:50know, just kind of, you know, overall, it's really just to,
- 56:52you know, stock up on talent, you know, kind of get the the
- 56:55baseline level of talent up to where you know, it needs to be
- 56:58competitive in the ACC. And then hopefully after that in
- 57:00the years following, and that's when you really start to, you
- 57:02know, kind of get the guys you want from high school, develop
- 57:04them and then they'll be rolling here.
- 57:06But as a as a transitional class, I really I really really
- 57:09like the the portable editions. I can't hear you, Curtis.
- 57:14And he's back. I, I will, I will, I will, I
- 57:18will jump in here. While Curtis is getting his his
- 57:20mic straightened up, I like what we're doing from the portal from
- 57:25Sheldon to your point, because we're basically re resetting the
- 57:2924 and 25 recruiting classes to the James Franklin level 26
- 57:35class that we saw come in being a top 25 class for just from an
- 57:40overall talent standpoint from what they were coming out of
- 57:43high school. Now, when we we look at what
- 57:46that means long term, you know, shell them to your point, it
- 57:51means that you don't have to go and get a bunch of headhunters
- 57:56every year and get into this churn of needing, needing a
- 57:59quarterback every year from the portal, needing a left tackle
- 58:04every year from the portal. You don't get into this point
- 58:07where you're having to reset the same positions, the key
- 58:10positions on your roster every single year.
- 58:13You got a foundation that you can build on for two or three
- 58:16years now. You can get your high school
- 58:19recruiting in line, start back filling those positions, and
- 58:22eventually you get to a point where you're only having to kind
- 58:25of plug in a couple holes here and there from the attrition
- 58:28that you have from your roster going into the transfer portal.
- 58:31Yeah, man. I mean roster.
- 58:32Management, it's a big deal like.
- 58:34I I think you know, we know fuente struggle with it.
- 58:36I think Pry, you know, pride talked to me again about high
- 58:39school development for the first couple of years, but it seemed
- 58:41like that last year he kind of really over over pivoted towards
- 58:44a portal like bringing in 30 new guys.
- 58:45It just didn't work out. So I think Franklin to kind of,
- 58:48you know, this will be the last thing I say before I head out is
- 58:51I think Franklin's taken the really a good approach of long
- 58:54term focus. But we're going to upgrade our
- 58:56account level to where it's competent in the ACC.
- 58:59And so, like Brian said, just plug holes where we need him
- 59:01going forward. But for a, for a transitional
- 59:03class, we, you know, as a baseline, I think, I think they
- 59:07made some really additions perfect.
- 59:09Well, Sean, we know you got to be.
- 59:10Up early in the morning. Man, could get you jumping on
- 59:12for the hour that you could. Again, check out the article at
- 59:15the Key play written by Shelton. Why not Virginia Tech?
- 59:19We'll see you soon man. Take care.
- 59:20God bless you guys. Thank you all.
- 59:24Right, let's. Talk about.
- 59:25This because. Brian, you made it point.
- 59:30I don't know if Gronk's doing it.
- 59:31I'm on. Right now.
- 59:32I do not want Gronk to be interviewing with anyone.
- 59:36Then go find what? The offense is go.
- 59:39Win and then come talk to us next year.
- 59:42I mean, I, I'd say he, yeah. And.
- 59:44If if we're giving interviews before the spring, that's
- 59:47probably a problem, that is a serious problem, all right.
- 59:51Let's go. Let's go talk about the four
- 59:53guys that we did not get to talk about last week and where we
- 59:56staying with them. And instead of going 1 by 1 by
- 1:00:001. And let's just talk all four
- 1:00:02guys at the same time. Let's talk about Brian.
- 1:00:05You, you mentioned this guy already, Sam Okanalola, the the
- 1:00:08edge from by a pit by Colorado. Justin Terry, not Curtis Terry,
- 1:00:16Justin Terry. Finally, you got it right,
- 1:00:18Curtis. The offensive tackle.
- 1:00:22The offensive tackle out of Ohio State.
- 1:00:26Then this one came out of nowhere.
- 1:00:29Curtis Jones. Curtis Jones from West Virginia,
- 1:00:33the kid who did everything. He played linebacker, he played
- 1:00:36edge, he played running back at the end.
- 1:00:39But he saw Rich Rod was bringing like 60 guys in and he was like
- 1:00:42this motherfucking stupid. I'll get out of here real quick.
- 1:00:45And then, finally, the last Penn State.
- 1:00:48Guy. Toser, Denmark.
- 1:00:50So Tally, we'll kick it to you because Brian kind of already
- 1:00:55buried it. Which one you most excited?
- 1:00:58About are those 4. Probably Terry just.
- 1:01:02Because I mean, we heard about his name early, early in the
- 1:01:06portal process, and that's all we need the most help at.
- 1:01:12I think it was Chris, I think. I'm pretty sure it was.
- 1:01:15Chris Lester that was talking about by May of this year we
- 1:01:20would have been done brought in 18 O lineman, which is crazy
- 1:01:26compared to I think we hadn't brought in 18 O lineman from O 5
- 1:01:31to 2025 we have. Been very scarce on.
- 1:01:38Recruiting lineman SO and especially at a high level.
- 1:01:43Like lineman. Didn't play at a high level, so
- 1:01:46we don't know who's going to pan out.
- 1:01:48Of course, that's why you pull people in and.
- 1:01:51And hope people develop to. Get better, but we have a lot of
- 1:01:54people that have the opportunity to show what they can do when
- 1:01:59you bring in, you know, 18 offensive lineman.
- 1:02:01So we need it. So I'm probably more most
- 1:02:04excited about him. Bet you Bron.
- 1:02:08Sammy Sachs man, Sammy. Sachs, Sammy Sachs.
- 1:02:12Samuel Okun Lolo it. It was a great when, when, when
- 1:02:16Morgan. Laughed.
- 1:02:17It's like, oh man, I had that kick, but you said it.
- 1:02:19What up? Hit it.
- 1:02:21Yeah, this is a guy that. When you watch his tape, I mean,
- 1:02:25he pops, man. You had some pretty decent
- 1:02:29production at Colorado, had some has, has had some good
- 1:02:32production, you know, throughout his college career so far.
- 1:02:36I'm really interested to see if he could take kind of that next
- 1:02:39step to become that premier tight pass rusher.
- 1:02:44But I mean, he's a guy that, you know, when you watch the tape,
- 1:02:46he definitely stands out. He's got really great burst off
- 1:02:49the line of scrimmage. He's going to give guys problems
- 1:02:53with that speed rush. You know, we'll see if he can
- 1:02:55kind of develop a second move or, or, or be a little bit
- 1:02:58better all around with that. But for for a guy that is your
- 1:03:04pivot from the guy that was considered to be the the jewel
- 1:03:08on the defensive side of the football in your, in your
- 1:03:10transfer portal class, that's a pretty damn good pivot.
- 1:03:14Well, yeah, it was a. Great pivot and and and.
- 1:03:17I, I, I mentioned Jones I think a couple weeks ago about how
- 1:03:21getting him in here would be good and Sammy's great, but I,
- 1:03:25I'm interested to see what they're going to do.
- 1:03:27With Curtis Jones, because are they going?
- 1:03:30To put him like at an outside linebacker role in his defense,
- 1:03:35or we can put him at an edge. And, and The thing is, he is a
- 1:03:40football. Player.
- 1:03:42He is a football player. How do I say he's a football
- 1:03:45player? So he played twelve games, 23
- 1:03:48tackles, 3 tackles for loss, including the sack.
- 1:03:51He also rushed the ball for 11 times for three touchdowns.
- 1:03:56That guy loves football and that's what you want bringing in
- 1:03:59here so. I want to see.
- 1:04:01Clearly he has some athletic ability.
- 1:04:03You know, he's like 6 to like 235.
- 1:04:06So he's kind of undersized and edge, but does he have a role?
- 1:04:11He's the guy, no disrespect to Denmark.
- 1:04:13I think Denmark could be an excellent wide receiver.
- 1:04:16But I think those three guys that are coming in, you talked
- 1:04:20to Sheldon, was talking about how he kind of levelled it out.
- 1:04:22Those three guys. I think we expect you're going
- 1:04:25to like to come in this year and you're going to play.
- 1:04:27You're going to play. And that's big.
- 1:04:30All right, let's get to it real quick.
- 1:04:32We're. Going to go through each room
- 1:04:33over the next, I'd say 10-15 minutes here, maybe less, and
- 1:04:37we're just going to say how we feel about how we feel about the
- 1:04:40depth of that room. 1 is the worst, 10 is the best.
- 1:04:44If we land on one or 10 for anything, I'll be shocked.
- 1:04:48But I just wanted to do this because I think probably next
- 1:04:50month at some point, we're going to probably build a depth chart
- 1:04:55and say this is how if everything in the perfect world
- 1:04:58happens, this is how it's going to look.
- 1:05:00So let's start. Let's.
- 1:05:02Start with the. Quarterback room, by the way,
- 1:05:04I'm going to shout out TSL, all the guys over there, Will David
- 1:05:10Guy, who's been on here a lot, Chris.
- 1:05:11Coleman, They. Put a hell of a list together
- 1:05:14with literally everybody who's in everybody who's out on their
- 1:05:19website. It's unbelievable.
- 1:05:21It made it really easy for me. I didn't have to put something
- 1:05:24together, which I thought I was going to have to do.
- 1:05:26But let's start with the quarterback room.
- 1:05:28I'm going to start with you, Tally.
- 1:05:30Where do you feel death? Right?
- 1:05:33Where are? You though.
- 1:05:34How do you feel about the whole but?
- 1:05:35How you feel about the death One to five, one to.
- 1:05:39Ten I would. Say probably.
- 1:05:42About a about a seven, Yeah, I'd probably say about A7 on that.
- 1:05:46All right. Ron, I'm going to go.
- 1:05:53Right at the seven as well all. Right, I'm I'm going.
- 1:05:56To go with A5. We know Gronk can play, but it's
- 1:06:02behind him of the following Red shirt freshman red shirt
- 1:06:04freshman red shirt freshman freshman Is Gronk in the.
- 1:06:08Freshman 4. Behind Curtis, I'm going to ask
- 1:06:11you one question. What's that?
- 1:06:14Let's look at all of the rosters.
- 1:06:17In. The power 4.
- 1:06:19Let's let's show the power 4. That's a. 140.
- 1:06:23Four teams, man 144 players. All right, so all all.
- 1:06:29All of those guys, when you look at their depth charts, how many
- 1:06:34of their starters beyond QB one have seen anything other than
- 1:06:39garbage time? I don't know, I have to look at
- 1:06:43every single rostring. Just just but like in your head.
- 1:06:47Think, think about how would you say this year 8080% of.
- 1:06:50Them probably do not have a solid backup so they're pretty
- 1:06:54much in the same damn. Situation we are behind Grump.
- 1:06:57I know I want to be better than though.
- 1:07:01And there's enough and when I. Say this I'm looking.
- 1:07:03At more of a Bryce is likely the number 2, but what I'm saying is
- 1:07:09I always want a buffer. I'm sorry, I'm a SAN.
- 1:07:11Francisco fan. This year we had the best backup
- 1:07:13in the league. He had to play for seven games.
- 1:07:16He went five and two. What?
- 1:07:18Yeah, so the so. The But The thing is like so
- 1:07:21Bronk is a sophomore see a true sophomore or red shirt,
- 1:07:25sophomore, red shirt, red shirt. Sophomore.
- 1:07:27This year or going into. This year, right?
- 1:07:29Yep, Yep. All right.
- 1:07:31So he was a red shirt. Freshman.
- 1:07:32Last year, right? Cool not.
- 1:07:35Expecting. To play.
- 1:07:37Nobody really knew what he could do.
- 1:07:39He was he gets thrust into action because Drew Allah goes
- 1:07:44down to lose their very experienced, you know, starter.
- 1:07:50How do we know Kelvin Ryan can't play?
- 1:07:54How do we know you know Baker can't play?
- 1:07:57Because Virginia Tech doesn't give us an opportunity.
- 1:08:01To see it in the past. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:08:03When Kyron struggled, when Kyron was hurt, we didn't play another
- 1:08:07quarterback, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:08:09We just continued to go with the same person.
- 1:08:12I don't want anybody to get hurt for us to see it.
- 1:08:14But sometimes through adversity it builds some character.
- 1:08:18We just never seen it. So a year later, how many people
- 1:08:23probably was after Grunt? He was probably one of the most
- 1:08:25sought after quarterbacks that was in the portal that wasn't
- 1:08:30supposed to play. So to Brian's point, we don't
- 1:08:34know what we got. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:08:35I don't want to hype it up, but I'm just saying we know that we
- 1:08:38have at least a QB, one that is going.
- 1:08:42To be very. Capable so I'm.
- 1:08:46Excited about that. We're going to be able to.
- 1:08:48Throw the ball, I love you but. We couldn't.
- 1:08:52Throw the ball and it wasn't all on, Karen.
- 1:08:54We'll get into that. We'll take a whole show and
- 1:08:56we'll talk about how bad our offensive line was, how bad our
- 1:08:59play column was to our personnel, how bad our
- 1:09:02quarterback quarterback play was.
- 1:09:04But we'll get to see the the wide receivers get some passes.
- 1:09:08You know, that's what we want to see.
- 1:09:10All right. Let's move on to the running.
- 1:09:13Backroom, and I'm going to start with this one.
- 1:09:14Give me a nine. I'm right there with you.
- 1:09:21I will take a 9. I mean, Overton coming.
- 1:09:25Off an. Injury as a true freshman did
- 1:09:29that. Imagine what a full.
- 1:09:33Offseason. In the room is going to do for
- 1:09:36that. Kid.
- 1:09:38Holy shit that. That room is going.
- 1:09:40To be lights out, him and Hawk are going to be a tandem.
- 1:09:44Like I'm not going to go back and say like anything with the
- 1:09:47Untouchables or anything like that, but that's going to be a
- 1:09:49really good 1-2 punch in that backfield Cali.
- 1:09:54Yeah, I'm probably going to go an 8 on that as.
- 1:09:56Well, just because people sleep on Hulk, man, I don't know.
- 1:10:00Look, I ain't going to say nobody like wanted him to leave,
- 1:10:03but I don't think a lot of people really, we thought.
- 1:10:08About him leaving or staying. As much as we should have.
- 1:10:12I think Hawk had almost 900 yards rushing.
- 1:10:14He almost was 1000 yard back. And at the beginning of the
- 1:10:18season, who really knew him like we didn't?
- 1:10:21We thought, oh, it's going to be, you know, Stewart or, you
- 1:10:24know, we thought Overton. We knew he was hurt.
- 1:10:27We thought he may get in, you know.
- 1:10:29Then we thought Bennett may be the one who catches out of the
- 1:10:31backfield and Hawkins comes in for all intents and purposes
- 1:10:35plays great behind a crappy offensive line on the three wind
- 1:10:39team. So we have some potential and we
- 1:10:43have some production which I'm really excited about.
- 1:10:46And don't you forget about big. Ass Bill.
- 1:10:48James because he going to run through some people.
- 1:10:52Bill. Davis.
- 1:10:54Bill. Bill Davis.
- 1:10:54Yeah, I'm screwed. Damn it, Curtis, What?
- 1:10:58Do you say hey? Brian.
- 1:11:00Last. Week battle last man.
- 1:11:05I like making all crack up, see? Everybody thinks I'm the mile.
- 1:11:10The. Group.
- 1:11:13Everybody. Thinks I'm the mile man I.
- 1:11:14Want to group? But this yeah, and I'm I'm just
- 1:11:17getting up the numbers here tally because I couldn't
- 1:11:19remember either 75750 He averaged 6 yards of carry,
- 1:11:25though last year did Hawk 6 yards a Gary.
- 1:11:28Damn good. All right, let's go to wide
- 1:11:31receiver tight ends because I I want to bunch them together
- 1:11:36because I think again, I think when you to me, I think about
- 1:11:39the outside skill positions, you can do so much where two tight
- 1:11:43ends and two wide receivers are on the field.
- 1:11:45So if you start saying, well, the tight end room's not great
- 1:11:48or it's great and the wide. Receiver room's OK.
- 1:11:50And it's just like the way they are playing at the same time,
- 1:11:54doing the same things. They got a run block, they got
- 1:11:57to go out there and run routes, they got to do other things.
- 1:11:59So tight end wide receivers, what do y'all think?
- 1:12:03About that room. Tally Curtis has said he's.
- 1:12:08Going to put them together. I'm going to.
- 1:12:09Separate them because I love tight end.
- 1:12:12So I'm going to say tidy in room, give me about a 7.87 point
- 1:12:198 and then wide receiver room I'm going to go with a 8.
- 1:12:23So I'll say, I'll say tight end room is a little bit under.
- 1:12:28Because I don't. Think we've really seen how to
- 1:12:31use tight ends in a while at Virginia Tech, though Benji had
- 1:12:35a a pretty good year, year before last.
- 1:12:38But still, we didn't use them. We weren't at offense to really
- 1:12:42use our tight ends the way that we should.
- 1:12:44You know, none of the kind of crossing routes, none of the,
- 1:12:48you know, up the same routes and things like that where you
- 1:12:50really use that tight end. And the reason I say you
- 1:12:53separate them, Curtis, is because yes, you do use them
- 1:12:56similar, but the tight end room, you're going to have to, they're
- 1:13:01going to have to block block like a tight end is, is is.
- 1:13:06Blocking. Much different than what a wide
- 1:13:08receiver blocks. You think about a tight end
- 1:13:10blocking somebody like Ruben Bang or chipping him or you know
- 1:13:15what I'm saying, Getting to that next level and and blocking.
- 1:13:18What's my man that played that cow #0 like a tight ends going
- 1:13:21to have to go block him, wide receiver going to have to block
- 1:13:24him. So little bit different.
- 1:13:26So that's why I braided the tight ends a little bit under
- 1:13:29the receiver room because they're going to have a little
- 1:13:32bit harder time and they're very young.
- 1:13:33But I think the mix with the young players and very talented.
- 1:13:38I think I think the next star out of all the offense is
- 1:13:43probably going to be Luke Reynolds.
- 1:13:47I mean, I just. Think that he's going to be a.
- 1:13:49Star because of his work ethic. If you go look at what he was
- 1:13:53doing at Penn State, he's always in the weight room.
- 1:13:56He was always winning some kind of award, being the kind of the
- 1:14:00first person there, last person to leave type player.
- 1:14:04He's fast enough to be able to run, but he's strong enough to
- 1:14:09be able to block, which is what we need.
- 1:14:11So I think he's going to be a star.
- 1:14:12But having Benji come back, Benji going to have to.
- 1:14:17Benji, if you watch it, man, I love you.
- 1:14:19Your ass is going to have to block.
- 1:14:21We know you can kill. We need you to block this year.
- 1:14:24You know what I'm saying? I'd love to see some 2 tight end
- 1:14:27sets for us to be able to get downhill, whether it's, you
- 1:14:30know, some pop passes or some up the scene passes or just
- 1:14:34running, you know, right at the defense.
- 1:14:36And then the receiver room, I know I'm being long winded, but
- 1:14:39then the receiver room is just, you got Uber talent all over the
- 1:14:43place. We have it, but again, AG is
- 1:14:45going to be AGI think AG is a great possession receiver.
- 1:14:50He's a 5050 guy. He's going to go get the ball if
- 1:14:54you give him the opportunity most of the time.
- 1:14:57But we just haven't really had people that can run past people
- 1:15:01consistently and a quarterback, they can get it to him when they
- 1:15:05run past people consistently for a while.
- 1:15:08So I think that we have that. I think we have that now in the
- 1:15:12receiver room. And I think that some people are
- 1:15:14going to emerge that we don't even know about in that receiver
- 1:15:17room because there's going to be a lot of competition now.
- 1:15:20So, Mike said. What's a pass?
- 1:15:27Mike, go. Oh, man.
- 1:15:29What about you? Brian?
- 1:15:31Go. Ahead, Kylie finish up.
- 1:15:32No that. Was it?
- 1:15:33Man, I was going to toss it to I.
- 1:15:34Was going to toss to one of y'all, but you said Brian, so
- 1:15:37I'll toss it to Brian. I'll let it right here so since.
- 1:15:40Tally, separate them. I'll separate them too.
- 1:15:44Give me a 7 1/2 for the tight end room.
- 1:15:46I think from a receiving perspective, this this team
- 1:15:52would be a nine. But I think from a blocking,
- 1:15:55it's like a six and blocking to Tally's point is going to be the
- 1:16:01more important aspect because we're going to need them to
- 1:16:05block in the running game. We don't always need them in the
- 1:16:09passing game. We've got it.
- 1:16:10We got weapons across the board in the passing game.
- 1:16:13You know, there's going to be sets where they're not even on
- 1:16:14the field. We're we're going to need them
- 1:16:17in the running game pretty consistently.
- 1:16:18So that's why they get a 7 point 7.5.
- 1:16:22The wide receiver room I'm going to give an 8.
- 1:16:27I. Think this is a very.
- 1:16:29Talented group and I you know, tally, you made the point there
- 1:16:35you got AG very good possession receiver.
- 1:16:37I think he can do some things really well.
- 1:16:40He's going to be the kind of the leader in that room.
- 1:16:43You got a lot of young talent and then you got a a guy like
- 1:16:47Keshawn coming over that's going to, I think be a really good
- 1:16:50difference maker in the slot there.
- 1:16:52So I think this is going to be a dynamic unit.
- 1:16:55I think they're going to work well with what we're trying to
- 1:16:57do offensively. And I think the upgrading the
- 1:17:01tight end talent, especially in the passing game, along with
- 1:17:04what we've been able to do in the portal and in these last few
- 1:17:09draft of the last few recruiting classes at the wide receiver
- 1:17:14position is going to really give Gronk some some weapons to take
- 1:17:18advantage of. Hi.
- 1:17:21I'm going to go with A7 for both.
- 1:17:25Y'all made the points. About the tight.
- 1:17:26Ends and I. Think with the wide receiver
- 1:17:29room you've got. Two guys who were pretty.
- 1:17:33Established with Aiden and Quish on brown spring to me they.
- 1:17:38Could get quicker to an eighth. In the tight end room was good.
- 1:17:43That's just the way I feel. About the depth the.
- 1:17:45Spring has got I need to see two or three guys in the spring
- 1:17:48break out at wide out to push Aiden.
- 1:17:52To push Kay Sean. To really say now if if they
- 1:17:56need to come off the field, teams are like, and the other
- 1:18:00two guys are just as good coming on, the other three guys just as
- 1:18:03good coming on. So I'm a 7 and an 8.
- 1:18:05All right, back to Brian Siegler, deep breath, Brian.
- 1:18:09Currently there are 21 offensive lineman on this roster.
- 1:18:16Where do you? Feel on the depth of it 6 OK.
- 1:18:27I I. I could probably.
- 1:18:29Be talked down to. 5 1/2 I I know I've been on record saying
- 1:18:34I would have liked to get another guard in this group in
- 1:18:39the transfer portal, a head of the start of camp and and winter
- 1:18:44workouts, spring camp, all that. I would have loved to get one
- 1:18:49more guard in there to push some of these starters at the high
- 1:18:52level. I think we've got guys at the
- 1:18:56guard position that can play, but I kind of wanted to level up
- 1:19:00that position as well. Obviously we know what we've
- 1:19:04done at the tackle position. That's, you know, we talked
- 1:19:06about that. That's been an emphasis both in
- 1:19:09the 26th class, the way that one wrapped up and what we did in
- 1:19:12the portal. You know, we've shored up having
- 1:19:16a center that can play behind altooner.
- 1:19:21I think we're good there with Troutman.
- 1:19:23It's it's really just, you know, we didn't really do a lot of
- 1:19:26guard to make that position better.
- 1:19:29I would have liked to see some movement there, but you just
- 1:19:33wanted one you probably wanted. One established guard where you
- 1:19:37do even even if it's been. A rotational player, just
- 1:19:40somebody that could come in and push the current starters and
- 1:19:45try to level up that room just a little bit more.
- 1:19:47Yeah, I'm, I'm. I mean, I don't know.
- 1:19:50I'll listen to y'all more but I think it's a six because I only
- 1:19:53count 7 guys that can play like I know can play.
- 1:19:57To get higher I need to know 8:00 and 9:00 and right now I
- 1:20:02only. See. 7.
- 1:20:03That have played and there's a couple guys coming in like
- 1:20:07Justin Terry, like Justin Bell, Can they play?
- 1:20:12Or Lucas Austin, if you tell me one to three of those, this
- 1:20:17could get into the 6 1/2 to 7 range tally.
- 1:20:20Yeah, I was at about a. 5. Right, Mediocre, you know what
- 1:20:24I'm saying? Just because so many unknowns
- 1:20:27there and it's so important to like you said, we know we got
- 1:20:31about 6 that can play or have played, but we need to be at
- 1:20:36about 9 or 10 always so. Yeah, I would say 5 for now,
- 1:20:41right? 5 for that one.
- 1:20:44All right. Do we want to do defense, the D
- 1:20:47line all together or position? All right.
- 1:20:55So go. D line tally all.
- 1:20:58Together, how you feeling about this room?
- 1:21:04Say what now It. Happened it.
- 1:21:07Happened. It only took four years.
- 1:21:10Somebody else made an appearance on here.
- 1:21:15Defensive line, where do you feel?
- 1:21:17With the depth of this room. With the defensive line, I would
- 1:21:24probably. Say you had about.
- 1:21:27A 7/7 and 1/2. Somewhere around there just
- 1:21:30because, I mean, I really think JC was taking no disrespect to
- 1:21:35some of the players we had, but I think JC was taking, you know,
- 1:21:39chicken shit and making chicken salad for a little bit.
- 1:21:43And I think that chaos is going to have a lot better something
- 1:21:46to work with and more pieces to work with for us to be
- 1:21:51productive. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:21:52In the past now, last year was bad.
- 1:21:54You know, I already talked to y'all about how I feel about the
- 1:21:56sacks, what we missed and things like that.
- 1:21:59So how many sacks we had compared to the years before.
- 1:22:03But even when we were good on the line, we weren't very deep.
- 1:22:09I think now we're going to be pretty deep moving forward on
- 1:22:13that defensive line, Ron. Yeah, I'm right at a 7 and a.
- 1:22:20Half as well. I think this is going to be a
- 1:22:25unit that. If not.
- 1:22:28The sole strength of the defense is definitely going to be the
- 1:22:33reason that we're going to win a lot of games.
- 1:22:36I like what even even with the you know, we, we talked about
- 1:22:40the, the, the decommit in the transfer portal, you know, with,
- 1:22:45with Morgan there, I think we got.
- 1:22:50A good pivot there. I think this is going to be a
- 1:22:52pretty. Good overall defensive line.
- 1:22:55You know, we shored up D tackle a little bit, filled in some
- 1:22:57holes there, went out and got a about a good handful of edges,
- 1:23:01guys that could rush the passer and and the big problem last
- 1:23:05year wasn't even getting pressure.
- 1:23:07It was getting home, finishing those plates like we were
- 1:23:11getting. We.
- 1:23:13Were getting in the. Backfield that wasn't.
- 1:23:15The problem, we just were not getting guys to the ground and
- 1:23:18ending the play. So yeah, that's going to be the
- 1:23:21biggest thing that I'd like to see is us making sure that we
- 1:23:24finish those plays and take care of the business once we're in
- 1:23:27the backfield. All right, I'm slightly.
- 1:23:30Under and I'm. At a six.
- 1:23:33And it's more. Leaning.
- 1:23:34Towards the defensive end room, because I look at D tackle
- 1:23:37between we've seen Copeland and Paul, we know they can play.
- 1:23:41We saw Law have flashes last year.
- 1:23:43We've seen Johnson have flashes where the defensive end room.
- 1:23:47It's more of. It's Sammy Sachs.
- 1:23:51Put that on the well and then shout out Matt Neal forgiveness.
- 1:23:55That one, there you go, Matt Neal shout out there.
- 1:23:59But there's like, there's no second guy.
- 1:24:03So I'm at a six right now now. Maybe.
- 1:24:05The reason, Brian, you and Tally are feeling better is like
- 1:24:09Hilson's pedigree or, you know, Malachi Williams pedigree.
- 1:24:13Like these guys, we're going to expect to be good players coming
- 1:24:16out. But that's where I'm at like a
- 1:24:18six because I just need one more edge.
- 1:24:21Got to get my bump up on that. All right, let's roll on.
- 1:24:26Brian. Is off camera.
- 1:24:27I would be still there in the background, maybe getting a
- 1:24:29beverage. Ron, what about the?
- 1:24:33Linebacker room. Linebacker room, little unique
- 1:24:37brought in some young guys we don't know what some going
- 1:24:40Curtis Jones. But returning some.
- 1:24:45Returning the dog in returning the phenom.
- 1:24:49Returning the dog, returning the.
- 1:24:50Phenom. Getting in a really competent
- 1:24:54Mike and Keon Wiley coming over from Penn State.
- 1:24:59And then potentially. Mixing in some of those young
- 1:25:03towns, in particular Brett Clatterbaugh.
- 1:25:05So I'm at a six 6 1/2. If he if he really twisted my
- 1:25:12arm, I would have liked to seen one more established guy, kind
- 1:25:17of the front end of that guys that could be at the 2D1 more 2D
- 1:25:21guy that you could really know. You can depend on has the stats,
- 1:25:25the experience to back that up. But I really like what was
- 1:25:30returning on this roster. I like Keon Wiley and I'm
- 1:25:34interested to see what some of the young guys can do.
- 1:25:37That's you, Tally. Yeah, I'm right.
- 1:25:39At about a six. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:25:41Like pretty much what Brian was saying, you know, interested in
- 1:25:45seeing what some of the some of the young guys can do as well as
- 1:25:49the return talent. But I'm, I'm really excited
- 1:25:52about Caleb Spencer. Yeah.
- 1:25:56That was that was a big. That was a big.
- 1:25:59Run it back. I I'm at a six.
- 1:26:03And 1/2. If Curtis Jones isn't a
- 1:26:05linebacker, I'm a 7 1/2 if he is a linebacker.
- 1:26:10There you go. Because I think what he would
- 1:26:12add is that. Like, you've got the three
- 1:26:15effective starters right? Between Noah, between Caleb and
- 1:26:19between Keyon, if you get that one extra guy.
- 1:26:24I know Santiago's still on it, but he just didn't do a lot for
- 1:26:28it last year. Maybe he steps.
- 1:26:32Up but if you get that 4th. Guy where you know he can
- 1:26:36effectively rotate because you feel.
- 1:26:38Like. No one can slide to Mike at
- 1:26:39times, so if Keon needs a breather, he can bring one guy.
- 1:26:43That's my thing. 6 1/2 if Jones is linebacker or not a
- 1:26:46linebacker. 7 1/2 He is a linebacker.
- 1:26:49Yeah. And we and we still don't know.
- 1:26:51You know, I mean, there's a couple.
- 1:26:52Things we're still kind of figuring out is Jordan Bass
- 1:26:55playing star or safety. You know, what sort of progress
- 1:27:00do we see in, in terms of Gay Williams's development?
- 1:27:04Like there's a lot of question marks out there with the overall
- 1:27:06lineback position. So we can really see that
- 1:27:09position level up just from things we don't really know
- 1:27:12about yet. 100% All right. Let's go down.
- 1:27:16To the cornerback. Room, we'll include the Nichols.
- 1:27:18With what we're feeling on this room.
- 1:27:24Who's going first? You are.
- 1:27:27You know, I'm going first, you know, looking at the guys we
- 1:27:33brought in with, you know, Woolsey, White, Chadwick, you
- 1:27:40combine that with what we're bringing back and you look at
- 1:27:42what we were already had going on at that nickel spot.
- 1:27:47Like, you know, I know, I know Chris Lester's been on here and
- 1:27:51sung his praises. What I saw early from Knowledge
- 1:27:55Harold was legit. So I think, I think death wise,
- 1:28:00we're going to be able to go, you know, six corners deep and
- 1:28:05not really. See a ton of drop.
- 1:28:06Off, you know, counting the, the, the, the two edges there
- 1:28:09with the nickel. All right.
- 1:28:13Kelly probably get me at about a.
- 1:28:18Six and a. Half.
- 1:28:19I'd say probably. About a 6 1/2 and the main
- 1:28:23reason is I think probably one of the people I'm most excited
- 1:28:28about in the corners room is coming off of an injury.
- 1:28:31Jay Cinco. That's fair coming off of an
- 1:28:34injury. You know if I.
- 1:28:36Knew he was able to play at a high level which I think.
- 1:28:42He will be, but I'm. Just saying, I knew that
- 1:28:45probably would be more at about 8:00, but I think that for us to
- 1:28:49be where I'm comfortable, I need to see, I need to see Clark on
- 1:28:56that field and grooving. Did I give a number?
- 1:28:59I don't even think I gave a fucking.
- 1:29:00Number. Did I say?
- 1:29:00I thought you gave a seven. Yeah.
- 1:29:02OK, 7. I thought you gave a. 7.
- 1:29:06Yeah, I'm, I'm. See y'all.
- 1:29:08Y'all are a little bearish on this room.
- 1:29:10I'm. Bullish on this room.
- 1:29:11I'm an 8 because Chadwick White Brown.
- 1:29:16Murray Williams. Kenny Woosley, all can play.
- 1:29:19They can play at the Division One level.
- 1:29:21You start talking about if. Clark.
- 1:29:24If Harold continues to show what he flashed last year, you're
- 1:29:29talking about a. Room that.
- 1:29:31Literally any combination on the field, you're going to have good
- 1:29:36results like it's it's. It's deep.
- 1:29:40It's it's not. The whole like some of the
- 1:29:42rooms, can this guy play? We need somebody to step up
- 1:29:46where with this room we start turning on film.
- 1:29:48It's like, Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 1:29:51All these guys can play. Do they have their moments?
- 1:29:53Yes. Every corner has moments,
- 1:29:54though. Every corners been beat.
- 1:29:57But you start seeing that in this.
- 1:29:59If you're telling me Knowledge and Jay Cinco, Josh Clark go to
- 1:30:03where we think they can go with their ceilings, Yep, that room,
- 1:30:08I mean. And talk about a room that
- 1:30:10completely flipped. Because once Lovett opted out
- 1:30:13last year, like it got in the portal, that room was decimated.
- 1:30:18And they have completely built that to to a point.
- 1:30:21Like I said, when I said the defensive line I think is going
- 1:30:24to be the strength of this defense, it's because the
- 1:30:26cornerback room has leveled up to a point where they're in that
- 1:30:29discussion 100 percent, 100%. But also that opted that gave
- 1:30:36Knowledge Herald a chance to show in flash to say, all right,
- 1:30:41now we got some tape for you. Go clean this up and you're
- 1:30:44going to be way up here. Yeah.
- 1:30:47The raw ability. Of knowledge, Harrell.
- 1:30:49Is. Unreal.
- 1:30:50It is there, understand? Yeah, and I think like his.
- 1:30:54Knowledge of the game I think is the biggest part.
- 1:30:56Like he, you know, it didn't seem like he ever looked like he
- 1:31:00was lost anywhere, which you don't really really see that a
- 1:31:02lot with a true freshman getting out there and getting some time.
- 1:31:05So shout out to him and and if we can see him take another step
- 1:31:09this year, that's going to be huge. 100% all right.
- 1:31:12Let's see our last room here. And that's the safety room and
- 1:31:16I'm going. To start with this one.
- 1:31:19I'm going to be nice. And gracious and give it a 5.
- 1:31:22I this is 1 room I am completely worried about now maybe having
- 1:31:28that corner room at an 8 and if and if knowledge and.
- 1:31:32Josh, take that big. Step it don't matter what the
- 1:31:34safeties do, but I don't feel good about this room.
- 1:31:38And if one guy I feel good about, his name is Gwen Reddish,
- 1:31:41he's the only guy I feel really good about.
- 1:31:43Off of Andrew. 5 coming off an injury.
- 1:31:46That's just the way it was I'm. In I'm in a 5 for that room.
- 1:31:51Tally, I'll let you go first on this one.
- 1:31:53Yeah, I. Probably I'm.
- 1:31:56I'm probably going. To say a little bit more.
- 1:31:58Optimistic than Curtis, but not much.
- 1:32:00I'd probably say about a six just because I know if.
- 1:32:06Q if Q is on the field. And he's not coming off of a
- 1:32:09knee injury, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:32:12He if Q is on the field, I know what he brings, so I'm pretty
- 1:32:22excited about that. Part of it.
- 1:32:24But I was hoping we was going to go out and get maybe a, you
- 1:32:27know, another safety as well, just to have a rotation piece
- 1:32:32and we didn't do that. So 6 is where I'm at, Yeah, I
- 1:32:38think. You know, if I knew, if I knew
- 1:32:41what we were going to get from some of these guys, like because
- 1:32:45we're not bringing anybody in, right?
- 1:32:47So we're not bringing anybody in this position.
- 1:32:48We're literally talking about guys that are coming back.
- 1:32:52I think frontline, you know, we we saw, you know, Jordan Bass
- 1:32:57likes to hit people. We know that that right.
- 1:32:59We know that we know what what Q can do.
- 1:33:02I think there's a lot of question marks behind that.
- 1:33:06You know you got. Sheldon Robinson.
- 1:33:08Showed some flashes. Can he take a step?
- 1:33:11What are we going to get out of Chirag Koval this year?
- 1:33:16What can a guy, you know, I, I really don't know what we have
- 1:33:20beyond that. So that's kind of where I'm at
- 1:33:23is is Chirag Koval going to step up?
- 1:33:24Because you know, you you want at least 4 safeties that you can
- 1:33:27count on. And right now I've got 2 1/2, so
- 1:33:32beyond the front. Line I'm I'm concerned about.
- 1:33:34Depth. So it, it's a, it's a tentative
- 1:33:375 for me, But I, I think that if some of the young guys come on
- 1:33:41at that position, I think we could, you know, talk about that
- 1:33:43being levelled up. I don't know how much we'll see
- 1:33:47in spring practice in the spring game that'll give us any more
- 1:33:50confidence about that as we go forward.
- 1:33:53But I think it's, you know, it's a, it's a room that probably I'm
- 1:33:56the most concerned about on the defense just because I, I think
- 1:33:59the front line is fine. I think the depth is the
- 1:34:02concern. 100% tallies off right there so.
- 1:34:06That that's kind of where we are and this is pre spring with that
- 1:34:09too. Again, a lot of this we want to
- 1:34:11see what we hear from practices, what we see at the springing.
- 1:34:15Yes, we know it's all vanilla, but if people are looking good,
- 1:34:19if there's position changes, you never know what might take
- 1:34:22place. Hey Curtis, this is Virginia
- 1:34:23Tech. How we feeling about specialist?
- 1:34:30Feeling good, we got the. Boomer from the.
- 1:34:32The boomer mullet kid from Marshall and you got the love
- 1:34:36brothers. That's right.
- 1:34:37I mean. Ten yeah, yeah, A10 about the
- 1:34:41specialist as as good. As as high as you can.
- 1:34:44Get I feel good about the specialist, give me a 10/9 and
- 1:34:471/2 whatever the fuck you want to give me.
- 1:34:49I'm I'm good with them. Damn right all.
- 1:34:54Right, let's roll on now and. Just a couple more pieces to
- 1:34:57hit. The coaching staff finally
- 1:34:59rounded out with the Curtis was so.
- 1:35:02Happy when that came out. It took forever.
- 1:35:04Curtis was about to lose his. Mind, why don't we own fucking
- 1:35:08safety scores? For a month and a half, that's.
- 1:35:13All Curtis can talk about. Yes, yes, I harped on it, but
- 1:35:16it's finally done. They got the three final
- 1:35:18defensive coaches finally confirmed.
- 1:35:20Darius Eubanks is going to be linebacker coach, Nick Perry
- 1:35:24cornerback coach and Anthony Midget, legendary Anthony Midget
- 1:35:29going to be the same safety coach and now you start looking.
- 1:35:33I don't want to get into support staff yet because it's going to
- 1:35:37be more and probably another. Day between now and the.
- 1:35:41Spring they'll probably. Start putting all that stuff up
- 1:35:43where we can really dissect it and say how good.
- 1:35:46With the exception of Warren. Ruggiero.
- 1:35:49Because that, that makes me feel so much better.
- 1:35:51About the offense is Warren. Is like the senior analyst on
- 1:35:53offense that's big and, and let's let's talk about.
- 1:35:56Another thing, because this is something that I think you know,
- 1:35:59outside of a, you know, a Sean Spencer and outside of Fontell
- 1:36:03getting his money and things like that, we were like, why?
- 1:36:06Why aren't we going out there and spending big money on these
- 1:36:09position coaches? And it's like, well, when you
- 1:36:12see with the analysts that we're bringing in the amount and who
- 1:36:15it is, we're spending money. On.
- 1:36:19This coaching staff, we're just not throwing it all at the top
- 1:36:22flight position groups that the guys that are recruiting, we're
- 1:36:25throwing it at recruiters. We got recruiters all over the
- 1:36:27staff, but we're also got analyst all over the place.
- 1:36:31And that's going to matter big time, especially with those
- 1:36:34situational pieces and the game prep pieces that we struggled
- 1:36:38with, frankly, the last really even going back to Fuente.
- 1:36:42So no, it's true. It's true.
- 1:36:45But overall, I mean, it's set. I look at it, I'd like to feel a
- 1:36:50lot better, but I don't feel terrible.
- 1:36:52Tally, what about you just kind of setting the final pieces of
- 1:36:55the staff? Yeah.
- 1:36:57No, I think that. Kind of what Brian said, I mean,
- 1:37:00we're spending money kind of across the board and I kind of
- 1:37:04look at the coaching staff the same as the recruiting that
- 1:37:07we've done. You can't spend.
- 1:37:10Big in one place when? You need everything he had to we
- 1:37:15had to spread it out and get everything we had to get a
- 1:37:19foundation set to be able to build on and you want, I mean,
- 1:37:26prom may have. Like cleared the.
- 1:37:28Land off. That might have been all he done
- 1:37:32at the end of the day. We had to, we had to go in there
- 1:37:35and pour some concrete, man. So I'm pretty, I'm pretty
- 1:37:39excited about I, you know, not saying everything's great and
- 1:37:43we're going to be awesome. I'm just saying for what we had
- 1:37:46to work with, I think we've done pretty good.
- 1:37:49I think we've had some pivots in that coaching staff, but I'm
- 1:37:53pretty happy with the places that I was.
- 1:37:57Most worried about the. Trenches, I think we're going to
- 1:38:00be OK and I think we're going to upgrade.
- 1:38:02I'll say that. I know we've upgraded on one
- 1:38:06side of the ball with the coaching.
- 1:38:09Matt Moore still being there and having more pieces to work with
- 1:38:13is an upgrade. Same coach, he's got some help
- 1:38:16to help him and we've got more pieces.
- 1:38:19So coaching and recruiting, definitely, I'm OK with both of
- 1:38:25those. Nice.
- 1:38:27All right. Last peace before.
- 1:38:28We close it out tonight. Basketball teams.
- 1:38:35What's 16? 60 Lord, have mercy.
- 1:38:39But I'm going to. Tell you what, I I, may I?
- 1:38:42Threw in a chat last night, I hope you all saw it.
- 1:38:44This team makes me have to throw 2 Zim's in and take a couple
- 1:38:50fingers of whiskey at the end of games.
- 1:38:53We are the. Worst team in the final three.
- 1:38:55Minutes in the country, the last two minutes, man the last. 2-3
- 1:39:00minutes, it's insane. And you know.
- 1:39:05And amazingly, amazingly, we've only blown a couple and a couple
- 1:39:10had to be a buzzer beater against us. 333 buzzer beaters.
- 1:39:153 blown. Yeah.
- 1:39:17I mean, we've only really gotten beat beat in two games this
- 1:39:20year, the Louisville game, which.
- 1:39:23With that, that stud. Coming back.
- 1:39:26I'm not saying I expected I wanted a better show in there.
- 1:39:28Yeah. And then VCU coming off the the.
- 1:39:31Wall injury, we were talking about that.
- 1:39:34The other day, do we even count those?
- 1:39:37Because you talk about a flip turn around the walls, your
- 1:39:40primary rebounder, defender, transition guy, and you have
- 1:39:43literally one day to prep, no days to prep without a day to
- 1:39:48prep, half day to prep, and you play.
- 1:39:50Saint Mary's. Before like those two are what
- 1:39:52they are, but I mean like. Right now I think of all those
- 1:39:59guys. They're in the last four in a
- 1:40:02lot of Quad 1 and. Two wins, good record.
- 1:40:04Day so pretty crazy, but MM young if you're listening figure
- 1:40:11away how to. Coach, how to get a ball?
- 1:40:12In on a press in the last 120 seconds, that is.
- 1:40:17Everybody been saying players, players, players.
- 1:40:21That's coaching. That's understanding the players
- 1:40:23you. Need and that's understanding
- 1:40:25how to set back screens, how to get the ball to somebody in a
- 1:40:28position and it seems to. Me, that's continuing.
- 1:40:32To be an. Issue to me, it's on might not
- 1:40:35so much to players. Yeah, it's, I mean.
- 1:40:40We can talk about, I mean, Neo has been inefficient, but he has
- 1:40:46been particularly poor in those three minutes, especially with
- 1:40:51the ball handling. He is not adjusted very well to
- 1:40:54the college game and knowing not only knowing how to press when,
- 1:41:00when, when to move the ball, when not when to stop the ball,
- 1:41:03things like that. It's like he's not assertive
- 1:41:05when when he should be, but he's also passive when he shouldn't
- 1:41:11be. So it's like he doesn't really
- 1:41:13know. He hasn't gotten a feel for
- 1:41:15everything and that just gets compounded when you got a full
- 1:41:18court press at the end of games. It's true, man.
- 1:41:22So, so true. Hi.
- 1:41:25Boys, anything else? We want to.
- 1:41:27Hit on before we wrap it up, man.
- 1:41:30It's just good to be back. In here with you guys man.
- 1:41:32It's I know it's offseason. We're probably only going once
- 1:41:35every couple weeks, you know, for the next, you know, month or
- 1:41:39so. But it's going to be, you know,
- 1:41:42March hits, it's going to be back into full throttle again.
- 1:41:45But I always love jumping on with you guys, man.
- 1:41:48It's always, always a good fucking good to be excited.
- 1:41:52About football. I.
- 1:41:53Think one thing that we didn't talk about before we go Curtis
- 1:41:59missed it. He kind of hit on it, but he
- 1:42:02didn't. Say.
- 1:42:03What games are you looking to go to this year?
- 1:42:07I know it's. Early.
- 1:42:08I know it's early but. You got a plan.
- 1:42:10Now, Curtis, I can't wait. Until May, I'll just pay the
- 1:42:14extra money. I'll go ahead and tell you right
- 1:42:17now. I'm I'm going to Clemson.
- 1:42:21I'm going to Clemson. That's.
- 1:42:22Going to be my awakening. Was going to be.
- 1:42:23That's 3 1/2 hours for you though.
- 1:42:25That's not. No, that's about 5.
- 1:42:27It's about 5:00. Hours.
- 1:42:28About 5 hours for me. So I want to, I want to go to
- 1:42:32Clemson. I don't know where I'm going to
- 1:42:34stay. Because they already tripping
- 1:42:35about prices of water. So it's going to be somewhere
- 1:42:38outside of where the university is.
- 1:42:42But I want to go to Clemson now. The home game is going to be a
- 1:42:45little tricky. I don't know what home game I
- 1:42:47want to go to, but that's where I need some help.
- 1:42:53Chad, where's everybody going, what games we're going to this
- 1:42:55year? I'm going to try to talk Curtis
- 1:42:57to take a road trip with me. To to College Park, I heard they
- 1:43:00got a really good target in your campus.
- 1:43:07We shall see what. Those.
- 1:43:09Tickets should be pretty affordable for that.
- 1:43:11So maybe they're, I don't know, like if.
- 1:43:16If you ask me right now, the. Game I want to go to.
- 1:43:19Because I think we're going. To start off hot, I think Pitt
- 1:43:23is going to be a fun. Game.
- 1:43:25I was trying to think Pitt too but.
- 1:43:27Pitt like Pitt A reality game, though?
- 1:43:29Pitt's a Friday. Game.
- 1:43:30It's a Friday game. It's a Friday game.
- 1:43:33That's the only reason I wasn't. Locked in on Pitt, on Pitt
- 1:43:36because it's a Friday game and when I go to Blacksburg I kind
- 1:43:39of want the whole Saturday experience this year, 100%.
- 1:43:45But the fun thing about? A Friday.
- 1:43:47The fun thing? About a Friday game is that you
- 1:43:49can go Friday. You get a night game experience,
- 1:43:52stay the night, spend all day Saturday in Blacksburg at the
- 1:43:56bars just watching games with everybody, go hang out at the
- 1:43:59bars. So it's.
- 1:44:00Been half the day, spend half the go downtown, eat breakfast,
- 1:44:03eat lunch, watch games and then tally.
- 1:44:06You know you can when it's getting close to dinner. 4:00
- 1:44:09You can say I love all y'all, but I got to go to Bristol to
- 1:44:12gamble for a few hours before I get back to Alabama.
- 1:44:14There we go. So maybe that's the. 1.
- 1:44:17If it ain't that one than Georgia Tech same way
- 1:44:21mid-october. I was thinking Georgia Tech too
- 1:44:24if I mid-october on. That Friday, I was.
- 1:44:26Thinking Georgia Tech will be a. Good game, I'd circle those.
- 1:44:31Two games now something. Out, by the way, our buddy
- 1:44:33Jason, Music man, he thinks about going to the BMI game,
- 1:44:37like, right out the gate. Just go.
- 1:44:38Yeah, Labor Day weekend. We'll.
- 1:44:41See, I got to give a few months. We got our schedules and stuff
- 1:44:44to go out and money. It's always about.
- 1:44:47I might be heading out of town on the.
- 1:44:50Heels of that. So that's why I have not
- 1:44:52committed to VMI yet. So we will see.
- 1:44:55All good man. Well, with that.
- 1:44:56Being said. Love to hear where y'all are
- 1:44:59thinking about or your games you want to go to this year.
