- 0:19Speaker 2: of those.
- 0:19Speaker 3: We sat down with a.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Creative team, both corporate and independent, to see how this
- 0:25Speaker 2: great vision is being drafted to life.
- 0:28Speaker 4: Movie adaptations about apps, toys, and other stories are all
- 0:33Speaker 4: over the world. Let's see what this one has to share.
- 0:37Speaker 5: So draft up a new email, hit send and listen in.
- 0:45Speaker 6: Okay, okay, obsessed with this room, this room, first press,
- 0:55Speaker 6: this press meeting got me like, that is so funny, exactly.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Exactly, this is it. You are just such a silly guy.
- 1:06Speaker 5: I don't know where do you come up with them.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I'm a freaking jokester. I've been a jokester by trade.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I've been a jokester a whole He's a jokester and
- 1:13Speaker 3: I'm a gopher. Yeah, with the jokester and the gopher.
- 1:16Speaker 5: It's just like that song, I'm a joker, I'm a broker,
- 1:20Speaker 5: I'm a stone creeper. Exactly.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So Miller, we used to listen to Steve Miller band
- 1:28Speaker 2: when I was a kid. My parents are a huge
- 1:30Speaker 2: fans of Steve Miller. And I got you onto it too,
- 1:32Speaker 2: my darling, honey over there, my wife.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Oh yeah he did. He got me onto it in
- 1:36Speaker 4: a big way. When we our wedding.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I introduced a new song to her at our wedding.
- 1:42Speaker 5: It's hard to do.
- 1:43Speaker 3: That's hard to do.
- 1:45Speaker 5: It's hard to bring out our first dance.
- 1:49Speaker 4: He goes, I wanted to show you this song, and
- 1:51Speaker 4: I was like, let's look into each other's eyes. And
- 1:53Speaker 4: he's such a goof, and I'm such a goof. Our
- 1:56Speaker 4: wedding was themed pranks.
- 1:57Speaker 3: That is so fun and funny.
- 1:59Speaker 5: A lot of what's so tragic is that I didn't
- 2:02Speaker 5: know you guys when you got married, so I couldn't.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, the amount of times we have thought
- 2:07Speaker 1: that we should have been at your wedding because it
- 2:10Speaker 1: sounds like a hoot, and it sounds like a holler.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I wish you both could have been at the wedding
- 2:14Speaker 2: to see your faces as you tried to cut into
- 2:16Speaker 2: a piece of cake that was a balloon and have
- 2:17Speaker 2: it pop in your face.
- 2:18Speaker 4: My maid of honor, I a freaking hoot.
- 2:22Speaker 3: She's so funny.
- 2:23Speaker 5: I would have shut out my eyeballs.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Literally ship.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And then ship out of my eyeballs. No, it was
- 2:29Speaker 1: so first eyes, then poop.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Guys.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Guys, guys, are we here to talk about our wedding
- 2:33Speaker 2: or are we here to talk about the Gmail movie?
- 2:35Speaker 3: The Gmail for sure easily.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Speaking of the wedding too. The wedding was full of
- 2:40Speaker 4: Nickelodeon writers, which is where we come from. If anybody
- 2:43Speaker 4: wants to talk, I'm guys, Okay, we're starting. Okay, guys.
- 2:50Speaker 4: My name is Violet Tory Gosser, and I am this
- 2:56Speaker 4: your awful man's lying oh stopt.
- 2:59Speaker 2: And can Tory Gosser. I am this beautiful woman's husband,
- 3:03Speaker 2: writing partner. We've been working together forever and we're writers
- 3:06Speaker 2: on the Gmail movie.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Literally obsessed with that energy.
- 3:09Speaker 5: I'm so obsessed. I'm so obsessed with that. I'm so
- 3:11Speaker 5: excited that you guys are here. I'm obsessed with the
- 3:15Speaker 5: way that we're all sitting here, and I'm obsessed. To
- 3:18Speaker 5: tell you my name, Jennifer Oogle. I have been working
- 3:23Speaker 5: at Google for a long time. Usually I've been a
- 3:26Speaker 5: project manager and then various other roles throughout the company,
- 3:31Speaker 5: and then a couple of years ago they started a
- 3:35Speaker 5: film development division. They basically were like who wants? Like,
- 3:39Speaker 5: who wants? And I volunteered on the slack and I
- 3:42Speaker 5: was like, I want, and I think the same thing
- 3:45Speaker 5: can be said. We were the only two who were like, yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 5: I want, please, and so I would love to throw
- 3:52Speaker 5: it over to my work husband. We are not married,
- 3:55Speaker 5: not all, not all.
- 3:57Speaker 3: We are not married at all, not at all.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Know what's funny is this is the first time I'm
- 4:01Speaker 2: hearing this, and I didn't know you weren't married.
- 4:05Speaker 5: You didn't know this is actually going on.
- 4:08Speaker 3: We call them double dates that we did because we
- 4:10Speaker 3: go we do. We went out.
- 4:11Speaker 2: We went out to the front yard that that restaurant
- 4:15Speaker 2: in the hotel off Tahunga over in the studio.
- 4:18Speaker 4: City in the front yard.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, Will you call them double dates because I
- 4:22Speaker 5: just thought, well, you guys are on a date and
- 4:24Speaker 5: us two makes double Yes.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I did not think we were dating.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't think that at all.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I didn't think we were dating at all. That's so well. Anyway,
- 4:33Speaker 3: I'm Arthur Binkie.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I work at Google as well, and I really got
- 4:37Speaker 1: started at Google more on the finance side and more
- 4:40Speaker 1: of the tech side, but we've kind of fallen into
- 4:42Speaker 1: this wonderful art side, and I'm so excited and obsessed.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm literally fathoming at the mouth to get this project
- 4:49Speaker 1: off the ground.
- 4:49Speaker 5: He is fathoming. Don't even talk to me while he's fathoming.
- 4:53Speaker 1: That is what we always I'm always like, I don't
- 4:56Speaker 1: even know if that off everybody.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm fathoming. I am fly at the mouth to get.
- 5:01Speaker 4: This that is. And I was an English major in college.
- 5:04Speaker 4: What is that?
- 5:04Speaker 3: I don't even know.
- 5:06Speaker 1: That's so funny, so critically insane about this project. I've
- 5:10Speaker 1: literally developed a sort of sort of drool and and
- 5:14Speaker 1: and spit around my mouth because I'm so excited and obsessed.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Is that the studio or you guys? I, well, I
- 5:21Speaker 5: think it's like we're both. I think it's a lot
- 5:23Speaker 5: of us. I would say that a lot of it
- 5:24Speaker 5: is coming from us. I feel like I feel the
- 5:26Speaker 5: same way you do. Like my orifices, all of them
- 5:29Speaker 5: like are begging to just like expunge this movie.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Absolutely just begging to be unloaded with this movie, you know.
- 5:36Speaker 2: And it's so funny because we're creatives, right, and we
- 5:38Speaker 2: do a lot of work where we go into hospitals
- 5:41Speaker 2: and prisons, and we help people that need to express art,
- 5:44Speaker 2: help them, we help. I love that and it's fun
- 5:47Speaker 2: because working with you too, it feels exactly the same way.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's like I'm like with a convict or, I'm with
- 5:52Speaker 2: someone who's gonna die this year, you know what I mean?
- 5:54Speaker 4: Yes, And I feel that way about working with any executives.
- 5:56Speaker 3: We work totally, totally.
- 5:58Speaker 2: They're so excited to dive in touch so many things.
- 6:02Speaker 2: They're literally bulls in china shops because they are knocking
- 6:04Speaker 2: things over left.
- 6:05Speaker 3: And I have never heard that before. You've got to
- 6:08Speaker 3: make that.
- 6:09Speaker 5: You got You've got to make that.
- 6:10Speaker 3: You gotta make it what you've gotta make it.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Got to make it our video show, you got to
- 6:15Speaker 1: put that in your show writing a show, you got
- 6:17Speaker 1: to put that in something. A bull in a China
- 6:19Speaker 1: shop is just like, it's so so funny and funny, and.
- 6:23Speaker 5: It's like, where do they even come up with this?
- 6:25Speaker 3: Literally?
- 6:26Speaker 5: Literally where do you, like? What is the little bug
- 6:28Speaker 5: in your brain that makes you think of this crazy stuff?
- 6:31Speaker 4: That's such a good point to start and explain where
- 6:34Speaker 4: we're at in the process.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Of course, of course.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Basically Google is trying to do what Apple TV did
- 6:41Speaker 1: with TV. Google is trying to do Google movies, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: the catches all of them have to be related to
- 6:47Speaker 1: Google products. So one of the first ones coming out,
- 6:50Speaker 1: we're so excited is Gmail the.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Movie Yes, and and it started. I would say that
- 6:55Speaker 5: we were actually the seed of the idea, if you
- 6:58Speaker 5: could believe.
- 6:58Speaker 7: It or not.
- 6:59Speaker 5: We came up the idea for Gmail movie.
- 7:02Speaker 4: The studio, the Google Content Creator studio thought of this,
- 7:06Speaker 4: not any writers.
- 7:08Speaker 5: It was, if you can believe it, this actually came
- 7:11Speaker 5: from us and not writers. So, uh, how it came
- 7:15Speaker 5: to us was we were watching the Emoji movie Yes
- 7:19Speaker 5: with our kids, so separately, separate kids, separate kids.
- 7:22Speaker 3: We were not your own kids together, but they are
- 7:26Speaker 3: very happy together.
- 7:26Speaker 5: They're also very happy okay at the same ag. Yeah,
- 7:33Speaker 5: And so we were watching They're definitely not no, no, no, no,
- 7:38Speaker 5: they're not. It wouldn't be the same. The timeline doesn't work.
- 7:40Speaker 5: So we were watching the Emoji movie and we thought,
- 7:43Speaker 5: wait a minute, this is a movie about technology for kids.
- 7:48Speaker 5: What if we did the same thing for adults.
- 7:50Speaker 1: When you said that, I literally wanted to kiss you
- 7:53Speaker 1: on the mouth because it was so smart.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Things so, and I literally like, in that moment, I
- 8:00Speaker 5: would have screamed.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Literally I would You wouldn't have been able to.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Kiss me because I would have been screaming.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Screaming out of joy anyway. But what was crazy was
- 8:08Speaker 4: you guys had that idea and they found us. We
- 8:10Speaker 4: were working with Dave and Busters on a web series
- 8:12Speaker 4: that we were.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Releasing, and we we were looking for the right team
- 8:17Speaker 1: to work on this, and once we saw your daven
- 8:19Speaker 1: Buster's web series.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we had a websites called Basketball Game based on
- 8:22Speaker 2: the basketball game at David Buster.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Fell in love. It was so smart and so different,
- 8:29Speaker 3: and people.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Don't know that when you're at David Busters. There's like
- 8:32Speaker 4: a lot of sounds at David Busters because it's an arcade,
- 8:35Speaker 4: but ye're playing it somewhere so you can hear it.
- 8:38Speaker 4: You can hear some of the voices. We had some
- 8:40Speaker 4: great famous actors.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Great famous actors. Yeah, the voices. Yeah, we had what's
- 8:46Speaker 2: his name, Barry Keyogan.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Yeah, we did basketball.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Yeah, he played and the way he did that like
- 8:52Speaker 5: swish that sound, I'm like, I got chills.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Played beans and even Stevens Beans, yeah him, he did it.
- 9:00Speaker 3: He changed his name to beans.
- 9:02Speaker 2: He did Carl to she was there. Yeah, it was
- 9:06Speaker 2: a bit of a reunion.
- 9:07Speaker 8: We did.
- 9:07Speaker 2: We did Instagram posts, but you know the the Instagram. Yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 2: our Instagram post for the web series. Our Instagram for
- 9:16Speaker 2: the web series is on private. We don't know how
- 9:17Speaker 2: to get off.
- 9:18Speaker 4: I don't know how to get it off.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Well, that was a huge but you came to us.
- 9:21Speaker 4: We were developing that at the time.
- 9:23Speaker 2: We are just a development team, right, we've we've been
- 9:25Speaker 2: we we met together. We met on Drake and Josh, Yes,
- 9:29Speaker 2: and we were working together.
- 9:30Speaker 4: And and we didn't start dating until we wrapped the
- 9:33Speaker 4: room exactly.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I think we should be.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Clear about that.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Okay, Well I will say so.
- 9:37Speaker 2: So we into Drake and Josh and we started on
- 9:39Speaker 2: I Carly and between the end of Drake and Josh,
- 9:41Speaker 2: at the beginning of By Carly, we were an item.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Wow, that was awesome.
- 9:45Speaker 5: And that must have been a shake up.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Actually shaking my earth. That must have been crazy for them.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Yes, and then we got engaged and at the time
- 9:52Speaker 4: I was taking spec work. I was doing some like
- 9:55Speaker 4: off the cuffspec work for Toyota, and that's when we
- 9:58Speaker 4: started with products and we're like, you know, at this point.
- 10:03Speaker 4: These studios, especially the children's channels, they bring in a
- 10:07Speaker 4: lot of new blood and my Honeybun and I have
- 10:10Speaker 4: been in the business for a long time, so we
- 10:12Speaker 4: were like, where can we grow?
- 10:14Speaker 3: Where can we exactly?
- 10:15Speaker 2: And when we realized we realized that, you know, creative growth,
- 10:18Speaker 2: it was probably past our time.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Of course, we didn't have any.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Roots anywhere that we could explore ourselves artistically in any
- 10:24Speaker 2: new ways, and we had nothing new to say. So
- 10:26Speaker 2: we could either start some sort of business where I
- 10:30Speaker 2: could go back to you know, becoming with a dauntist,
- 10:33Speaker 2: or I could I could become.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Some sort of teacher or something like that.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Or we could just stay in the industry and take
- 10:39Speaker 2: jobs that we didn't have to use our brains for.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Yes, And I think what was it? I think I
- 10:44Speaker 4: saw an Instagram logo once I said high concept, Hi concept,
- 10:47Speaker 4: High concept, and I went, you know what, that's my
- 10:50Speaker 4: new artistic voice, hi concept.
- 10:52Speaker 2: And you know what's so funny is is it was
- 10:53Speaker 2: somebody posted one word but her phone has been broken
- 10:55Speaker 2: for years and it just says.
- 10:57Speaker 4: He why would someone make an Instagram graphic?
- 11:00Speaker 5: Was that was literally my thought is why would that happen.
- 11:03Speaker 3: It was so funny.
- 11:04Speaker 5: That's amazing.
- 11:05Speaker 2: You do also follow that Hollywood Buzzwords Instagram account that
- 11:08Speaker 2: just close words.
- 11:09Speaker 4: And it's helpful because I learned words.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Yes, what's the new one? You learned?
- 11:13Speaker 4: Oh general, general, general, general, But that's my phone.
- 11:16Speaker 3: General, So you just learned the word general. I know.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I am literally crawling under my skin for you.
- 11:25Speaker 5: My teeth out. I cannot believe.
- 11:27Speaker 3: You phrases, they're so interesting.
- 11:30Speaker 5: We follow a corporate buzzroom account, which.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Is really fun they have they're so funny. They're posting
- 11:37Speaker 1: like words like technology.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Yeah for general, not roasted honey, just lovingly.
- 11:45Speaker 6: Ye.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So basically, one thing that we we really should go
- 11:51Speaker 1: over is kind of what's happening in this movie. And
- 11:54Speaker 1: we said it was going to be the Emoji movie
- 11:56Speaker 1: for adults, and we mean that. I mean, this is
- 11:59Speaker 1: going to be a lit little bit braunchy, a little
- 12:01Speaker 1: bit you know, maybe don't bring your kids to the
- 12:04Speaker 1: Gmail the movie movie. Exactly, it's gonna be a little you.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Know, because I just want to talk. And Okay, So
- 12:12Speaker 5: basically the way that emojis, the characters in the Emoji
- 12:16Speaker 5: Movie are actually based on the emojis in your phone. Right,
- 12:19Speaker 5: So in Gmail, each of the different mailboxes is a character.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Right in box is a clown.
- 12:27Speaker 5: And when we thought of this, we should it out
- 12:30Speaker 5: our brains because it was insane.
- 12:32Speaker 2: To be clear, they did think of this. We did
- 12:34Speaker 2: have a lot of pitches and we loved working for
- 12:37Speaker 2: you guys, and we're used to everything we write getting
- 12:39Speaker 2: shot down.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and it was yes, and I want to be clear,
- 12:41Speaker 4: we were onboard, right, clear.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So we wrote a little bit of an outline and
- 12:47Speaker 1: some character we wrote.
- 12:49Speaker 5: And we did. There was there was a night where
- 12:52Speaker 5: we wrote the script, but I will say I don't
- 12:55Speaker 5: recognize any of the words on the page. After we
- 12:59Speaker 5: woke up. Have happened in like a blackout, crazy rage.
- 13:02Speaker 1: But I loved it because we woke up and we
- 13:04Speaker 1: got to take what we liked from it and turn
- 13:06Speaker 1: it into really exactly.
- 13:07Speaker 5: That was cool.
- 13:08Speaker 4: You took what you liked and kind of sort of
- 13:10Speaker 4: made them commands, right, And we came in and there
- 13:13Speaker 4: was the command list and like a bible, like a
- 13:16Speaker 4: show bible for the movie.
- 13:17Speaker 1: It was a lot of do this with this, do this, yes, yes,
- 13:20Speaker 1: but we really I.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Think we nailed some of the characters. I mean inbox,
- 13:24Speaker 3: outgoing spam. I want to spam.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Yeah, and and and you mentioned don't bring your kids
- 13:30Speaker 5: to this. Spam is disgusting, disgusting, He's disgusting.
- 13:36Speaker 4: He's and I think weel Wilson spam.
- 13:42Speaker 5: So the character is rebel Wilson meets Stewie from Family Guy,
- 13:46Speaker 5: and it is so disgusting it makes me laugh so hard.
- 13:51Speaker 5: I cannot believe.
- 13:52Speaker 3: We guess it's Ted, but with more it's so good.
- 13:55Speaker 5: I always thought Ted didn't go far, and.
- 13:57Speaker 3: I think so.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I think I watched that I go they didn't push
- 13:59Speaker 1: the onlope far enough.
- 14:01Speaker 4: It's crazy to be honest, as you guys are talking
- 14:03Speaker 4: about spam, the character that is we've worked on for
- 14:06Speaker 4: so long. I do to be fully honest. My my
- 14:09Speaker 4: breathing is getting a little thinner, totally. I'm such a
- 14:12Speaker 4: specific image of spam. And I think every single line
- 14:17Speaker 4: of dialogue that spam says has been debated. What would
- 14:20Speaker 4: spam say that?
- 14:22Speaker 3: And so far you guys haven't hit it, and we
- 14:24Speaker 3: are just waiting.
- 14:26Speaker 5: We'll find it, because this is coming out in three months,
- 14:28Speaker 5: so we will find it.
- 14:30Speaker 3: It is coming out, and it's live action. It's live action.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Rebel Wilson is just dressed up like spam. Yeah, totally,
- 14:36Speaker 3: she dresses up.
- 14:36Speaker 5: She goes to a trailer every day and she says,
- 14:38Speaker 5: are we shooting yet? And we're we don't have that yet.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But Rebel, you are so sweet and kind. It's coming baby,
- 14:45Speaker 1: because you guys.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Have a very specific image of spam and.
- 14:48Speaker 2: People are wondering also, like what is a character in
- 14:52Speaker 2: this movie? Are you in ethereal mailbox? Are you an
- 14:55Speaker 2: actual mail you know?
- 14:56Speaker 3: What? What are these things? And to that, I say,
- 14:58Speaker 3: the Barbie.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Movie exactly, exactly break.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so funny that you think that, because it
- 15:07Speaker 1: is the Barbie Movie and that's kind of what we're capturing,
- 15:10Speaker 1: you know. It's kind of how the Barbie Movie was
- 15:13Speaker 1: about feminism underneath it all. You know.
- 15:15Speaker 3: They hated that message pretty hard.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Like I didn't get it the first time, but somebody
- 15:19Speaker 1: explained to me that it is about feminism at the
- 15:21Speaker 1: end totally, And I feel like we can do the
- 15:23Speaker 1: exact same thing with the Gmail movie.
- 15:25Speaker 4: What's similar to that Swedish fish movie that came out
- 15:27Speaker 4: a couple of years Oh yeah, right.
- 15:30Speaker 3: There that you try to remember the name to.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Definitely definitely, definitely there was some influence there. Of course,
- 15:40Speaker 5: there was some influence.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Do I know my wife or what? I saw her
- 15:43Speaker 3: look at that post and she's about to bring that up.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Do I know my wife?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Or what?
- 15:48Speaker 5: Do you know your wife?
- 15:49Speaker 6: Or what?
- 15:51Speaker 3: Of a game show that we tried to pitch back.
- 15:53Speaker 3: It's so good. We had Heidi Gloom.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Signed on for a PBS game show called do I
- 15:58Speaker 2: Know My Wife or What It Gone?
- 16:01Speaker 4: But then her and Seal broke up.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Exactly, she said, Seal and I have broken up. I'm
- 16:06Speaker 2: canceling all my projects.
- 16:08Speaker 4: No, who knows her wife? You know she's that wife?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:12Speaker 5: I hate that that happened. I hate that that write
- 16:14Speaker 5: a lot.
- 16:14Speaker 4: We write a lot.
- 16:19Speaker 1: To you guys are so fun and easy to work with. Thanks,
- 16:22Speaker 1: it's been amazing process working with you guys. You guys
- 16:25Speaker 1: have taken all of our thoughts and really brought them
- 16:27Speaker 1: to life.
- 16:28Speaker 3: It's so fun.
- 16:29Speaker 5: They've been so chill, and it's incredible when we're like,
- 16:32Speaker 5: we want this to be something, and then you guys
- 16:35Speaker 5: like you don't even bat and eye like you you
- 16:38Speaker 5: sort of like you put your you do this, so
- 16:40Speaker 5: you do this funny thing every time. Okay. So I
- 16:43Speaker 5: don't know if you've experienced this. Okay, I don't know
- 16:45Speaker 5: if you've experienced this. But when when we say, like, oh,
- 16:49Speaker 5: we think this character should actually be a person instead
- 16:52Speaker 5: of a mailbox, you always put your head in your hands.
- 16:55Speaker 5: It's literally so and that's how I know you're thinking.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Yes, I know my husband and something.
- 17:00Speaker 3: It's so funny this and I go, he's going to
- 17:03Speaker 3: the brain.
- 17:03Speaker 5: And he's about to come up with something I love.
- 17:06Speaker 3: That you love that I can't because let him talk
- 17:09Speaker 3: about it.
- 17:09Speaker 4: And I won't him talk about it, you know what?
- 17:12Speaker 2: You know what I'm doing actually and and and uh,
- 17:15Speaker 2: you know, I guess I'll let it all come out here.
- 17:18Speaker 2: When I do put my head there, I'm actually uh
- 17:22Speaker 2: envisioning the deck I can build with the money we're making.
- 17:25Speaker 3: That's what I'm doing.
- 17:26Speaker 4: We have a deck, visually, were going to get a deck.
- 17:28Speaker 3: We live in We live in Flintbridge, the oh Jess
- 17:33Speaker 3: flint Ridge, just.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Footbridge, Panga Canyon anyway. But I'll say, you guys, like
- 17:40Speaker 4: what you just said there, how we like take your
- 17:42Speaker 4: stuff and we and we go with it and do
- 17:44Speaker 4: so well I said it. Really I think we started
- 17:48Speaker 4: doing that once you too respected the hours in which
- 17:51Speaker 4: you were allowed to call us and which you're not.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Once you sting that huge we had communication that was
- 17:57Speaker 4: the was some hiccups, you know, because you guys did
- 17:59Speaker 4: tell us that it's not all right for us to
- 18:02Speaker 4: both call you to try to zoom you at three am.
- 18:05Speaker 4: And why are you guys.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Together at three exactly exactly?
- 18:08Speaker 2: Why why are you why are you wearing a full
- 18:10Speaker 2: length nightgown? And why are you in a pajama set?
- 18:13Speaker 3: And and I love and I love that question.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Such a good questions, such a funny question because I
- 18:18Speaker 5: could so see why people would think that we're work
- 18:21Speaker 5: husband and work wife. But but without the work part.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Right, I can totally work. It's so works because.
- 18:29Speaker 5: We have pajama parties for our for for work, because
- 18:33Speaker 5: we have another job, right, Like we're also doing Google
- 18:37Speaker 5: and so this is like our hobby.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Yeah, we were sleeping in our house and flint Ridge
- 18:40Speaker 4: to Bank Canyon, and we get these calls in the
- 18:43Speaker 4: middle of the night. And we live in like kind
- 18:44Speaker 4: of a quieter area of back at flint Ridge.
- 18:47Speaker 3: And so you can imagine how quiet it is.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Yeah, but I will say it was just I mean.
- 18:52Speaker 3: To pay a candiot alone is quiet imagine a part.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Of we have flint Ridge itself side.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So people say it's like one of those if you
- 19:00Speaker 2: put yourself in a soundless vacuum and you go crazy.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Yeah, but I will say, you guys respect boundaries once
- 19:08Speaker 4: they're there, but were still there, and this was our.
- 19:10Speaker 5: First thing to tell us.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Literally, we are so open and honest and.
- 19:14Speaker 5: We're so obsessed with if you give us a time.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Then will answer it and will.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Be fill it here.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, I'm sorry.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Did you say something I would hate to talk over?
- 19:27Speaker 5: I am so sorry I would hate to talk over.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Happens a lot. You know, if you want to speak,
- 19:32Speaker 3: you're allowed to.
- 19:32Speaker 4: Speak because I'm how you two hear each other.
- 19:34Speaker 3: That is interesting for me.
- 19:35Speaker 5: That is so interesting because sometimes it's almost like we're
- 19:38Speaker 5: both talking on a radio frequency and like we can
- 19:41Speaker 5: dial in if we want.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It's so easy to just pick up because sometimes you'll
- 19:44Speaker 1: just do something with your head and I'll go, she's hungry,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I'll bring her.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Something like that.
- 19:51Speaker 5: It's like a like you will move your hand in
- 19:55Speaker 5: such a way that I know that you need an.
- 19:57Speaker 1: App literally and literally it's wow. She Sometimes at work,
- 20:02Speaker 1: she'll turn to me and go feeling a little sweepy
- 20:04Speaker 1: big boy, and I'll know, like, oh, yeah, she pecked
- 20:07Speaker 1: on it before.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Even immediately immediately. And sometimes this is working from home.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're working from home. Yeah, so we both
- 20:15Speaker 1: work from home home. So we are flint Ridge.
- 20:21Speaker 5: We're a flint Ridge. It's so quiet. It's so quiet,
- 20:25Speaker 5: so quiet and so quiet. But sometimes it's so quiet
- 20:28Speaker 5: that if a bird is chirping too loud, somebody calls
- 20:31Speaker 5: the cops. So we do get police sirens.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Sometimes this police and the gardener's very very loud in
- 20:38Speaker 3: the morning.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Yes, oh my god, Well but I love that smell.
- 20:44Speaker 1: It's such a good stop.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Let her speak. She's speaking. My wife's talking. Jesus Christ.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Okay, I'm so sorry.
- 20:54Speaker 4: This is a part of the creative process. We get
- 20:56Speaker 4: in the little bumps on the road. But it's like
- 21:00Speaker 4: like that every way.
- 21:00Speaker 3: But you guys, you get angry.
- 21:01Speaker 4: I make come for myself, honey. When you guys have
- 21:05Speaker 4: a loud bird. It reminds us of when you guys
- 21:07Speaker 4: call us and you call us on Google Meet and
- 21:11Speaker 4: our phone. We have a house phone. Still you call
- 21:13Speaker 4: that my watch call our cell phones on our Apple watches,
- 21:16Speaker 4: you call us, and I will say you guys as
- 21:18Speaker 4: as Google representatives. You have so many tools at your fingertips,
- 21:23Speaker 4: and it is crazy how many ways you can communicate
- 21:26Speaker 4: to us.
- 21:26Speaker 3: I would also say too.
- 21:28Speaker 2: And this has been kind of a I guess, not
- 21:30Speaker 2: a not a hurdle, but something to work on in
- 21:34Speaker 2: this project.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Is all ears, all ears? Yeah, are all ears for this.
- 21:39Speaker 2: The culture in which you guys are using Gmail is
- 21:41Speaker 2: different than the rest of the world, right, You guys
- 21:43Speaker 2: are using Gmail in such an intense, wild way, and
- 21:46Speaker 2: you want the movie to reflect that experience. We've let
- 21:49Speaker 2: you know it's not relatable in the way you guys
- 21:51Speaker 2: use Gmail. You guys send a lot of emails with
- 21:53Speaker 2: subjects without body. You send a lot of emails no subject,
- 21:56Speaker 2: long body. You use little tricks you can monitor when
- 22:00Speaker 2: I open an email just from your Gmail, you can
- 22:03Speaker 2: see my reaction. You you send me an email sometimes
- 22:06Speaker 2: where my computer flashes and it says, oh, it's just
- 22:08Speaker 2: taking a shot of you reacting to the email. And
- 22:10Speaker 2: sometimes there's a delayed reaction, so you know there's something
- 22:13Speaker 2: like forty five seconds into me reading, and you want
- 22:15Speaker 2: to take a picture of.
- 22:16Speaker 4: When I read that much, we were on a blank
- 22:18Speaker 4: email thread between us all and you guys had attached
- 22:21Speaker 4: a thread from twenty nineteen. Then I scrolled up.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Yeah, and this is all news to us, like we
- 22:27Speaker 5: and we're so glad that you are grounding us because
- 22:30Speaker 5: like we are. So we've been working at Google for
- 22:33Speaker 5: what I'm like eleven years or eleven years, yeah, almost exactly,
- 22:37Speaker 5: because we both started on September fifth, twenty thirteen, thirteen,
- 22:44Speaker 5: Yeah exactly, and so we've been using these features forever.
- 22:47Speaker 5: We had no idea that you couldn't access somebody's webcam
- 22:52Speaker 5: by sending them an email and just.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Want me to cut out of the movie because it's
- 22:55Speaker 4: not relatable.
- 22:56Speaker 3: No, it's exactly. And you remember that one time we
- 22:57Speaker 3: opened that email and it was like seven.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Paragraphs when we were reading it, and then at the
- 23:00Speaker 2: bottom there was an open video chat and he said,
- 23:03Speaker 2: so what do you guys think you were in the email?
- 23:05Speaker 3: Was spooked.
- 23:08Speaker 5: We were there my brain when.
- 23:09Speaker 1: You guys told us that wasn't a relatable thing that happens,
- 23:12Speaker 1: it blew my It was shocking.
- 23:13Speaker 5: It was shocking. It was shocking because we also had
- 23:15Speaker 5: that part because you know, there were those like chain
- 23:18Speaker 5: emails that were going around in like two thousand and
- 23:20Speaker 5: eight where it's like, oh, send this to ten people
- 23:23Speaker 5: or else you'll get cursed. Those are actually real, and
- 23:27Speaker 5: those are real ones that we can add. And so
- 23:29Speaker 5: when we like sent you guys that like you guys
- 23:32Speaker 5: had such a reaction, and.
- 23:33Speaker 4: I think it was because you were trying to get
- 23:35Speaker 4: it to be implemented between the love story between Inbox
- 23:39Speaker 4: and Outbox. Yeah, and we should talk about that, Artie, Yes,
- 23:41Speaker 4: talk about the whole.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Thing, because this is, at the end of the day,
- 23:43Speaker 3: it is a love story. It's a beautiful, beautiful love story.
- 23:46Speaker 5: If you could believe it or not, it is a
- 23:48Speaker 5: love story you.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Two always wanted to be about these two people who
- 23:52Speaker 4: can want to be together but can't be together. And
- 23:55Speaker 4: I love exactly. My passion towards telling that story has
- 23:58Speaker 4: kind of catapulted us into eat a simple story.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yes, it's so funny because I think we just thought
- 24:03Speaker 1: of that. I mean, it doesn't relate to us at all.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I just thought it would be the best for Inbox too.
- 24:07Speaker 5: No, it was crazy the way we just thought of that.
- 24:09Speaker 3: I just thought of it. It just came to me
- 24:10Speaker 3: because you guys are such.
- 24:11Speaker 4: A tech world.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Yes, exactly, we barely have feelings. We barely blink.
- 24:15Speaker 5: No, I don't remember the last. Every time I go
- 24:18Speaker 5: into my therapist, I literally it's the same conversation. I
- 24:21Speaker 5: sit down, she goes no news, and I say no news,
- 24:24Speaker 5: and then I leave.
- 24:26Speaker 3: You should watch her do therapy. It's really exciting, really exciting.
- 24:29Speaker 3: I watched it.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Let my husband do that.
- 24:31Speaker 3: No, I sit down and watch her.
- 24:33Speaker 5: No, if you guys want to join me for therapy,
- 24:35Speaker 5: sometimes you should come by my girls. Amazing, it's so great.
- 24:38Speaker 5: But yes, these characters, these characters, these characters, these characters.
- 24:42Speaker 2: And let's talk about it. Let's just talk about the plot.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Let's talk about the setting. How's that Let's start with
- 24:45Speaker 2: the very basics of the movies.
- 24:47Speaker 3: That would be awesome.
- 24:48Speaker 1: And that's why I love it, because you're so smart
- 24:50Speaker 1: at that stuff, Like I would never know that movies
- 24:52Speaker 1: have a setting that's like something.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Why wouldn't you know that? That's very interesting? Not to
- 24:56Speaker 3: know it feels like a.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Like a reading comprehension thing.
- 24:59Speaker 5: Maybe that's so interesting, just so smart?
- 25:03Speaker 4: Take who were and why we always have to remind sounds.
- 25:05Speaker 9: Like a real cognitive issue to be Okay.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Now, these are the jokes that I that I would
- 25:13Speaker 5: die without. My heart would beat out of my chest and.
- 25:17Speaker 3: My nose will be throwing ship out of it. When
- 25:20Speaker 3: you guys say these, these these phrases, I don't know
- 25:24Speaker 3: where you're for me.
- 25:24Speaker 1: It's like, you see, I say jokes and I miss them,
- 25:26Speaker 1: and then maybe a second later, it hits me in
- 25:29Speaker 1: the back of the head like a hammer and makes.
- 25:35Speaker 5: Out a dream and it boomerangs and it hits me
- 25:38Speaker 5: in the throat strangles me, and then I'm ready for work.
- 25:41Speaker 2: So the Gmail movie takes place in Webopolis, right.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Yes, Yes, it's a continue.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yes, it's like a big metropolitan city where everything on
- 25:53Speaker 2: the Internet is like its own building.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Because you were pretty married to the Gmail movie being
- 25:59Speaker 4: taken place in Utopia because we love we love Utopia,
- 26:06Speaker 4: and we just kept saying Webopolis and Utopia.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Is just such a good place to put a movie.
- 26:11Speaker 3: It's so crazy how they thought about.
- 26:13Speaker 5: It's so interesting. It's like, if it ain't broke, don't
- 26:16Speaker 5: fix it. Right, It's like, you know, Shakespeare borrowed from
- 26:20Speaker 5: the Greeks. That's what I heard, And so I I
- 26:23Speaker 5: think that we can borrow from Zutopia.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Just straight up.
- 26:27Speaker 2: We just it's a live action movie and that's a
- 26:29Speaker 2: Disney movie, right, so we can't set the Gmail movie
- 26:31Speaker 2: in Zutopia.
- 26:32Speaker 3: It's just is yeah, and we'll go around. Now.
- 26:37Speaker 5: When you said rights, I'm like, I get that.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I get rights. We totally understand.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Like once you put it in that context, yeah, it's
- 26:44Speaker 1: totally makes sense. But it was it was important for
- 26:47Speaker 1: us for you guys to admit that Utopia was amazing concept.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Once we could find common ground on that.
- 26:53Speaker 3: That was like after four months.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Yes, we admitted it would be amazing if we could,
- 26:58Speaker 2: and then you said, okay, we can.
- 27:01Speaker 5: That's all we needed was that I had no idea
- 27:06Speaker 5: that everything we were fighting for. All we needed was
- 27:08Speaker 5: the validation that it was a good idea.
- 27:09Speaker 8: It was such a good advice exactly because we really
- 27:14Speaker 8: see you guys as people with a lot of money
- 27:16Speaker 8: who have a lot of power, and we did not
- 27:19Speaker 8: realize that you needed our approval so much.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Well, you we see you guys as genius creative. Sure,
- 27:25Speaker 3: you guys worked on Drake and Josh.
- 27:27Speaker 5: You two boss babies, two mega minds, two young Sheldon's
- 27:31Speaker 5: running around the place just barfing out ideas literally.
- 27:34Speaker 3: And sorry, she's coughing up encouragement.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Oh that felt so good. That felt so good to
- 27:43Speaker 5: get out.
- 27:43Speaker 4: Anyway, we're taking place in Webopolis, So.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Web Populis is this genius place that you guys came
- 27:49Speaker 1: up with that we absolutely smooched over. It was amazing
- 27:53Speaker 1: concept that Webopolis. Everything lives on the web. I thought
- 27:56Speaker 1: it was.
- 27:57Speaker 3: It just kind of painted such a great picture.
- 27:59Speaker 4: And we learned in Webopolis there is no sleep because
- 28:03Speaker 4: emails don't sleep.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Right, Emails don't sleep. But also there's no urgency, right
- 28:07Speaker 5: because the great thing about an email as opposed to
- 28:09Speaker 5: a text is that it's delayed. It's delayed importance. And
- 28:13Speaker 5: this was something we wanted to be stressed. That we
- 28:15Speaker 5: want it stressed about.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Yeah, because no one in the movie uses phones or
- 28:18Speaker 4: text messages. Yeh, stressed emails.
- 28:20Speaker 3: And the big thing is this is a movie.
- 28:23Speaker 2: It's a love story, but it's also an adventure that
- 28:25Speaker 2: involves a mcguffin, which is a mcguffin is a movie
- 28:27Speaker 2: term for the thing that everyone's chasing, right, And the
- 28:30Speaker 2: thing that everyone's chasing is an email with a mistake
- 28:33Speaker 2: in it.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Everybody wants it. It's this golden email.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Nobody knows they wanted to use it for nefarious goods
- 28:39Speaker 2: or to protect it from ever being sent out because
- 28:43Speaker 2: all the letters go out into the rest of Webopolis,
- 28:45Speaker 2: but they're generated right there in the Gmail building, And
- 28:48Speaker 2: so it's a big chase where you know, out box
- 28:51Speaker 2: really wants it to be sent out Inbox, really, it
- 28:56Speaker 2: really wants it to be sent in Inbucks wants to
- 28:59Speaker 2: keep it right, an wants to do something weird with it.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Spam wants to ship all over it. Yes, exactly to
- 29:05Speaker 1: Queen Elizabeth Night when.
- 29:07Speaker 5: We were pitching lines for spam, when we were just
- 29:10Speaker 5: up all night on Children's Triumedic pitching lines for spam.
- 29:16Speaker 3: You guys love spam, Children's Triumanic. You guys love both
- 29:19Speaker 3: of those things. You love both of those things.
- 29:23Speaker 5: I love Children's Triamedic. You guys really have to try,
- 29:26Speaker 5: because try it been sober for what ten years?
- 29:29Speaker 3: Oh you haven't, I think sober for ten years as well.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Cocktail out a night the other day.
- 29:36Speaker 3: I don't drink out.
- 29:37Speaker 5: I don't drink alcohol.
- 29:39Speaker 3: It's not a girly's nighttime mocktail.
- 29:41Speaker 9: That is literally cough syrup as what you're talking about.
- 29:44Speaker 3: We're sober.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Anyway, we were anyways, we were doing children's trumanic pitching
- 29:49Speaker 1: lines for spam Box, and we came up with some
- 29:52Speaker 1: really messed up show.
- 29:54Speaker 5: We were saying, like, okay, these are we could say
- 29:56Speaker 5: these because these were left on the cutting room floor,
- 29:58Speaker 5: but these were what we sent in Google voice notes
- 30:00Speaker 5: to you guys.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Uh, we're so loud, by the way.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Let's play him.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Oh my god, I'm just parted out my butt.
- 30:12Speaker 4: These are lines you were pitching.
- 30:13Speaker 9: That we wanted, you guys, and you didn't tell us
- 30:15Speaker 9: that that's what these were, right, And so we just
- 30:17Speaker 9: started getting over time we get.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Used to wait, that's not the executive's voices, that's their
- 30:22Speaker 4: impression of spam play more of them.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Is that a reply all email or you just got
- 30:29Speaker 3: a boner?
- 30:30Speaker 4: See it sounds like he's real boy to figure.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Out is hard at first.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Oh, you should see me and my husband. We are
- 30:37Speaker 4: just sitting in our beds, staring at the ceil and
- 30:39Speaker 4: listening to these loud because we don't have kids.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Right, We're staring at ourselves in the mirror on our ceiling.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Yeah, because we get into crazy shit yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 1: The first time I noticed that you guys had a
- 30:50Speaker 1: mirror on your ceiling, I said, they're not as boring
- 30:52Speaker 1: as I think.
- 30:53Speaker 9: To be fair, you were not asked to come into
- 30:56Speaker 9: the bedroom. When you came over, I had an idea.
- 30:58Speaker 4: I had to let you guys know that was boundaries
- 31:00Speaker 4: were established, and that was before boundaries on the doors
- 31:03Speaker 4: with pitches for spam lines. But we have spamed. But
- 31:06Speaker 4: then we also which my husband and I've been working
- 31:08Speaker 4: really hard on, which you guys, I think have less
- 31:10Speaker 4: of a very specific vision on is junk and junk is.
- 31:14Speaker 5: That was a mystery to me. We were like, we
- 31:16Speaker 5: have no idea what to do?
- 31:17Speaker 9: I literally, I literally had no idea, and we had
- 31:20Speaker 9: to release you the burden, right.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Because actually stressing us out so so much. We were
- 31:27Speaker 5: up all night drinking suit of fed, going oh my god,
- 31:30Speaker 5: what are we gonna.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Being like, Okay, there's Harry Potter and then there's Voltimore, right,
- 31:34Speaker 4: there is always an antagonist, and when that unlocked in
- 31:38Speaker 4: your brain, oh my god, it was huge.
- 31:40Speaker 2: It was like junk, Yeah, junk wanted to strengthen itself
- 31:43Speaker 2: by eating the golden email, right, yes, and wanted to
- 31:46Speaker 2: ruin everything.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Because all he eats are emails that are crupped, yes
- 31:50Speaker 4: or mistaken.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And I thought somebody eating an email would be such
- 31:53Speaker 1: funny physical comedy that I fell in love with it.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Well yeah, and that's you know, and I appreciate that.
- 31:59Speaker 2: But he's the villain, right yeah, and so we actually
- 32:02Speaker 2: so then, so we actually put all that physical comedy
- 32:04Speaker 2: into drafts and that's our baby. Drafts is the funniest
- 32:07Speaker 2: little character.
- 32:08Speaker 4: I really really really love drafts and something that I
- 32:12Speaker 4: didn't really wrap my head around.
- 32:14Speaker 5: And Ben Platt is amazing, but I couldn't really wrap
- 32:17Speaker 5: my head around it because a draft can't be seen
- 32:20Speaker 5: by anybody because it's in your own.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Like all of the all of the things, you can't
- 32:26Speaker 2: be seen by people, right, they live in If we
- 32:28Speaker 2: use that kind of.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Logic, Okay, so you're losing an you're losing me.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Sobody, Sometimes you guys put down things, I'm just being honest.
- 32:36Speaker 2: You put down laws that are just gatekeeping where you
- 32:39Speaker 2: decide you don't like something, you pick a law and
- 32:41Speaker 2: you make something use.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Just don't think that's true. All I'm saying is draft
- 32:45Speaker 3: is a fake email.
- 32:45Speaker 2: But then the thing is, so it's not a fake email,
- 32:47Speaker 2: it's a prett email, It's a draft is smbling on him.
- 32:50Speaker 3: You know, he's a mumbler, he's a ceterer. He's trying
- 32:52Speaker 3: to figure out exactly. Drafts are all.
- 32:54Speaker 4: The things in life that we haven't done yet, sit
- 32:57Speaker 4: in our driveway of thoughts and brains in our and
- 33:00Speaker 4: we go should I should I? And they sit there.
- 33:03Speaker 2: I remember when we connected because this draft simply the
- 33:07Speaker 2: civilized the child that we always wanted to make.
- 33:09Speaker 3: That we never could make.
- 33:11Speaker 5: Odd we put that in the work.
- 33:13Speaker 3: It's it's so funny. I've had fertility issues.
- 33:16Speaker 5: I'm dying. You guys are so funny.
- 33:18Speaker 3: It's so funny. No, No, that's actually so funny. That's
- 33:23Speaker 3: so funny. But I just don't get it.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Draft doesn't eat emails or run around like crazy or
- 33:28Speaker 1: say weird thing.
- 33:28Speaker 5: That's not what because that's not what happens at work
- 33:30Speaker 5: when we go to work. And so we were just
- 33:32Speaker 5: like trying to wrap our head around that. But we
- 33:34Speaker 5: believe that you guys know what, you're absolute faith. We
- 33:37Speaker 5: have absolute faith, absolutely, and.
- 33:39Speaker 4: When those boundaries are respected, I do. I'm thankful for
- 33:42Speaker 4: the faith. Of course, you guys have put in so
- 33:45Speaker 4: many resources into our writing process. That fun writer's retreat
- 33:49Speaker 4: we all did.
- 33:50Speaker 5: So my God, and thank you for letting us come.
- 33:52Speaker 4: That was so I mean, oh, hi was incredible, absolutely
- 33:57Speaker 4: so romantic work romantic.
- 33:59Speaker 5: It was so romantic in the way that I was
- 34:04Speaker 5: just regular the whole time.
- 34:07Speaker 3: What's going on? I'm good, I'm back. What happened? Are you?
- 34:12Speaker 3: I mean even good?
- 34:13Speaker 2: I forgot who I was for a second and I
- 34:15Speaker 2: showed you a side of myself that I should have kept.
- 34:17Speaker 4: Do you have a draft sitting?
- 34:19Speaker 3: I'm going to leave it there because I don't think
- 34:21Speaker 3: the draft is welcome here. Wow, we want to talk
- 34:24Speaker 3: about the draft.
- 34:25Speaker 9: I don't want to talk about the draft that you
- 34:26Speaker 9: know who. I want to talk about the person who
- 34:28Speaker 9: made all that music for us.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Give it up, the.
- 34:31Speaker 2: One the only Josh Groban wrote so many godmail me please.
- 34:38Speaker 5: We are such romans on Gmail, Josh Groban, because that
- 34:43Speaker 5: was gorgeous. It made me want to slow dance.
- 34:45Speaker 3: So bad, so bad.
- 34:47Speaker 2: And I will say, you know what was amazing about
- 34:49Speaker 2: getting so much top to your talent.
- 34:51Speaker 3: We already had their email addresses, right, That's the thing.
- 34:55Speaker 3: We Since we work for Google, we can just look
- 34:58Speaker 3: up anybody.
- 34:58Speaker 5: Ever, anybody's email address. That's something they don't tell you.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Don't Yeah, that's you guys have like a yellow Pages.
- 35:03Speaker 4: But I will say, ever since I started working with
- 35:05Speaker 4: you guys, you guys did give me a Gmail email.
- 35:08Speaker 4: But it's very confusing because it's at Gmail at Gmail
- 35:11Speaker 4: the movie and it's almost impossible to like.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Uh, because like any random person can be at Gmail
- 35:18Speaker 5: dot com, right, but so we need to distinguish the
- 35:20Speaker 5: Gmail employees from that. So it's at Gmail dot com,
- 35:23Speaker 5: Gmail dot com, yes, And so that's hard and I.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Guess that that is, especially when it's at Gmail dot
- 35:28Speaker 4: com at Gmail themovie team at Gmail dot com.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yes, yes, exactly, it's And it's tough for you guys
- 35:34Speaker 1: because you guys are just kind of unfamiliar with computers
- 35:36Speaker 1: in general, right, right, I mean figuring out slack with
- 35:39Speaker 1: you guys.
- 35:39Speaker 3: That's why we had to send you so many things.
- 35:41Speaker 3: You guys could not figure out slack.
- 35:42Speaker 4: Well, I think you just you spend a lot of
- 35:44Speaker 4: time talking down to us. And at some point I
- 35:46Speaker 4: do use a computer and I can do it. But
- 35:48Speaker 4: because I'm not intact doesn't mean I'm like, I'm like
- 35:51Speaker 4: completely not.
- 35:52Speaker 5: No, that's interesting. You should see sure where to start.
- 35:55Speaker 2: You should see her do that. We should see you
- 35:57Speaker 2: should see her do the New York Times connections. She's
- 35:59Speaker 2: so good at it, and the and the seven letter
- 36:02Speaker 2: word thing.
- 36:02Speaker 3: She's good at that. She's good at that.
- 36:04Speaker 5: She's good at that, because I'm so bad. The other day,
- 36:07Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys saw this one. They
- 36:09Speaker 5: had sponge Bob square and pants, yes, and that wasn't
- 36:14Speaker 5: a category, and I just kept clicking over and over
- 36:16Speaker 5: and over again. I'm like, it has to be that,
- 36:18Speaker 5: keep submitting over and over and over again.
- 36:20Speaker 3: So funny. She's in bed and I'm right next to her.
- 36:22Speaker 1: She's trying to figure this thing out and she cannot
- 36:25Speaker 1: figure it out.
- 36:26Speaker 5: Cant together.
- 36:27Speaker 1: We don't live together, No, no, not at all, not
- 36:30Speaker 1: at all. We are work living together.
- 36:32Speaker 5: We are work living together because we both work from home. Right,
- 36:36Speaker 5: do you understand what that means?
- 36:37Speaker 3: So do you guys get that?
- 36:38Speaker 5: Sorry, that's a tech thing. We work from home, and
- 36:40Speaker 5: so that's why we were both in the bed.
- 36:42Speaker 3: We work from home. We're screenwriters, right, we've done that
- 36:45Speaker 3: very frequently. Okay, yeah, that just makes sense to me.
- 36:48Speaker 4: But I mean I am curious. I know we're on
- 36:50Speaker 4: an official interview of the press tour, but I am curious.
- 36:53Speaker 4: We did send you guys a final draft last night.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Yes, we love we love it.
- 37:00Speaker 5: We have so much to say about it, so much
- 37:03Speaker 5: to say about it. Yeah, so I was thinking if
- 37:06Speaker 5: we could pencil in like eight ten hours or so
- 37:08Speaker 5: to really just like hash that out and deliver our thoughts,
- 37:12Speaker 5: because we had a lot of pitches for funny lines, and.
- 37:15Speaker 4: That goes back to our boundaries. Remember that we are
- 37:17Speaker 4: past the point of pitching one liners.
- 37:20Speaker 5: That was very okay, actually right, we're.
- 37:22Speaker 4: Only doing meetings that go up to four and a
- 37:24Speaker 4: half hours.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Yes, right, so, and we actually are busy tonight we're
- 37:28Speaker 2: going with a Drake and Josh Ryder's reunion at jazz
- 37:30Speaker 2: Night at the Farmer's Market.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Okay, you can skip that.
- 37:34Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what, I don't know much about the
- 37:37Speaker 4: thing you have to go to that only allows jazz
- 37:39Speaker 4: night like once in exactly, like we're not really going
- 37:42Speaker 4: for the night at the farmer.
- 37:45Speaker 5: Am actually the lad that we're talking about the final
- 37:48Speaker 5: draft though, because we had an idea earlier what if
- 37:52Speaker 5: we changed the setting to Disneyland.
- 37:54Speaker 3: That wouldn't that be funny?
- 37:55Speaker 2: Yeah? So do you talk to the people at Disney there.
- 37:58Speaker 2: What's the relationship with Google and Disney?
- 38:00Speaker 5: No, we just love it.
- 38:01Speaker 1: We love Disney, you love it Google. Disney knows that
- 38:04Speaker 1: Google's a fan.
- 38:05Speaker 3: So Disney knows Google's a fans.
- 38:08Speaker 5: Disney is well aware that Googles a fan.
- 38:10Speaker 3: When you search Disney, it says Disney Channel Google a fan.
- 38:13Speaker 3: You know what, buddy, I think that sentence might just
- 38:16Speaker 3: broke me. Disney knows Google as a fan. What does
- 38:18Speaker 3: that industry become?
- 38:19Speaker 4: Honey?
- 38:19Speaker 3: What have we turned into? We used to be able
- 38:21Speaker 3: to make money off of this. Did you were so
- 38:23Speaker 3: funny when you got Now Disney knows Google's a fan?
- 38:25Speaker 5: Here, I love the corporation is like Jerry Seinfeld, This
- 38:30Speaker 5: so good, so funny.
- 38:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna ship my ears out.
- 38:32Speaker 9: Another corporation is an admirer of what that corporation does.
- 38:37Speaker 3: No people, no people, Disney knows Google's a fan. Well,
- 38:42Speaker 3: I don't know what Google's a fan. Disney know Google
- 38:44Speaker 3: is a fan. Disney knows Googles a fans.
- 38:46Speaker 5: I think it's actually pretty clear when you look at
- 38:48Speaker 5: their Instagram interactions. They comment on each other fourteen.
- 38:52Speaker 9: Year old girls that are running those for free. I
- 38:55Speaker 9: guarantee you that.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Okay, Oh god, oh god.
- 38:57Speaker 3: It's okay. I'm sorry. No, no, no, no, no.
- 38:59Speaker 4: That must be broken because at some point I want
- 39:02Speaker 4: to know what your fundamental understanding misunderstanding with Webopolis, because
- 39:08Speaker 4: I like, do we need to change the name because
- 39:11Speaker 4: it like you guys just have to give me some concrete.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Yes, okay, so I love it. I want to start
- 39:18Speaker 3: with we love it. We love I know.
- 39:20Speaker 4: But every time we send you a draft, it comes
- 39:22Speaker 4: back with a new setting.
- 39:23Speaker 3: And it's the best we can do. It's the best
- 39:30Speaker 3: we can do that, and that.
- 39:35Speaker 4: We don't need the compliment pre phase.
- 39:37Speaker 5: No, we get it. Okay, this is okay, you get it.
- 39:41Speaker 5: We are. We've been in the corporate world for too long.
- 39:44Speaker 5: You don't want to compliment sandwich. You want somebody to
- 39:46Speaker 5: give it to you straight, right, You want it to
- 39:49Speaker 5: give it.
- 39:49Speaker 3: To you the chat, We'll cut the butter and we'll
- 39:53Speaker 3: get right to the just.
- 39:54Speaker 5: Get right on down to it, right. I don't really
- 39:58Speaker 5: get what Webopolis looks like. If it's not like a
- 40:01Speaker 5: physical building, it.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Doesn't make sense. It's a life actually a physical building.
- 40:06Speaker 9: So I've described it right. It's like a city for
- 40:10Speaker 9: the Internet. Right, It's like a city for the Internet.
- 40:13Speaker 9: And every type of thing on the Internet is its
- 40:15Speaker 9: own building.
- 40:17Speaker 1: So for me, for me, why are buildings internet sites?
- 40:22Speaker 1: But email is person That is where my brain goes.
- 40:26Speaker 4: Question for you, sir, because when we go back to this,
- 40:30Speaker 4: there are only so many ways that could be poked.
- 40:33Speaker 4: And this story is hanging on by a dress.
- 40:35Speaker 9: You imagine that, like one thing is a big thing, right,
- 40:38Speaker 9: and all the things inside it are literally things.
- 40:41Speaker 5: So if a Russian nesting doll, okay.
- 40:48Speaker 9: Living in a house and we are people, right, there
- 40:51Speaker 9: was a building email inside of it?
- 40:56Speaker 3: Are they are boxes? They are things. They're the things
- 41:00Speaker 3: that that popularly the biggest.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Thing right in a building.
- 41:05Speaker 5: This is what my god, I never thought of it
- 41:07Speaker 5: that way.
- 41:08Speaker 3: It's that actually is blowing my mind.
- 41:11Speaker 9: Is like a Greek word for land, right, Okay, I
- 41:15Speaker 9: called it webland.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Oh my god, I'm gonna come that is that like
- 41:24Speaker 3: so much.
- 41:25Speaker 5: More because I was like, an, I'm not really sure
- 41:30Speaker 5: where we're going. You really get monopoly?
- 41:34Speaker 3: You You're so funny.
- 41:35Speaker 5: I could put my lip on your lip, but I won't.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Amount of ulcers. I got through this whole process.
- 41:42Speaker 10: My husband has not been able to come since we
- 41:44Speaker 10: signed that contract.
- 41:46Speaker 3: Oh no, you have in your room.
- 41:49Speaker 5: It's just so.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Hard to imagine watching yourself not be able to come.
- 41:56Speaker 10: I can't do it, and imagine watching your husband watch
- 41:58Speaker 10: himself not being able. I want you to know, you know,
- 42:02Speaker 10: I'm sick of this bullshit. I'm sick of it.
- 42:05Speaker 3: So what is going on.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Between you two?
- 42:10Speaker 3: Nothing?
- 42:11Speaker 5: Nothing.
- 42:11Speaker 3: We're work buddies.
- 42:13Speaker 5: Yeah, we're work buddies. We drink after work, we work
- 42:16Speaker 5: from home. We we our kids are friends because they're
- 42:21Speaker 5: brother and sister.
- 42:22Speaker 3: We sleep after work.
- 42:23Speaker 7: And we're not going to win. We can take our money.
- 42:27Speaker 7: Imagine what if we did this? What if we built
- 42:29Speaker 7: a wicker bench on our deck. Think about that, honey,
- 42:33Speaker 7: Just a bench, Just a bench. I mean on the
- 42:35Speaker 7: rest of the deck too. But we can add a bench.
- 42:37Speaker 3: We get on a bench that is so fun. We
- 42:41Speaker 3: could also add a bench to ours.
- 42:43Speaker 5: We could add.
- 42:47Speaker 3: From home.
- 42:48Speaker 5: We work from home.
- 42:49Speaker 4: Picture of himself trying to come in the back.
- 42:53Speaker 5: That's because of you.
- 42:54Speaker 3: I will say, what guy doesn't do that? I mean,
- 42:56Speaker 3: come on, it's honestly a guy secret.
- 43:00Speaker 2: What I will say is to know that, I to
- 43:02Speaker 2: know that I could have been coming for honestly years
- 43:05Speaker 2: at this point if we just changed.
- 43:08Speaker 5: Oh my god, I can't believe that time flies when
- 43:10Speaker 5: you're having fun.
- 43:11Speaker 3: It's so this is fun for you. It's flown by
- 43:13Speaker 3: because it's been just been a joy for them.
- 43:15Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I'm getting so hysterical.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I don't know why you guys are so upset. We
- 43:18Speaker 1: just have a couple of notes. I mean, it's changed,
- 43:20Speaker 1: the change where we.
- 43:22Speaker 3: We are so happy to be involved here. Yes, we
- 43:25Speaker 3: are so happy. So it's to hear.
- 43:28Speaker 1: We had a couple of other thoughts, I mean, minor.
- 43:31Speaker 1: We did the part where the emails kind of go
- 43:35Speaker 1: on this adventure to catch some guy named mcguffin wasn't
- 43:40Speaker 1: really working.
- 43:41Speaker 2: No, so that is never that's nowhere in the script, right,
- 43:43Speaker 2: that's a screenwriting term that I but since I've said
- 43:46Speaker 2: the term mcguffin, you keep seeing.
- 43:47Speaker 3: And I don't like that name.
- 43:49Speaker 5: So we got it sounds like a dog.
- 43:51Speaker 3: It sounds it sounds like a dog. Would you know
- 43:53Speaker 3: what I would do?
- 43:54Speaker 2: I would do control F and put in the word
- 43:56Speaker 2: mcguffin m A c g U F F I n
- 43:58Speaker 2: put it in in the I know, I know, find Okay,
- 44:03Speaker 2: then try to find the word because it's not gonna be.
- 44:04Speaker 4: You can't do this anymore.
- 44:05Speaker 3: This is so toxic, it's okay.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Oh my god, wait, I feel like the vibe is shifted.
- 44:11Speaker 3: What's happening?
- 44:12Speaker 5: Is everything? Okay?
- 44:13Speaker 4: I just I love our movie, But sometimes I feel
- 44:17Speaker 4: when you guys come back with the same notes over
- 44:19Speaker 4: and over again, we have the same discussion. Mcguffin is
- 44:21Speaker 4: not a character, right, mcguffin is.
- 44:24Speaker 5: Huh.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Well, I guess I can say one thing for sure,
- 44:27Speaker 1: and that means this is not a good movie. You
- 44:30Speaker 1: guys did not write a good movie. I think you
- 44:32Speaker 1: both know that. Right.
- 44:35Speaker 7: Let me tell you this, buddy, if you wanted the
- 44:38Speaker 7: movie to be good, you don't hire us.
- 44:41Speaker 3: If you want the movie to be made, you hire us.
- 44:45Speaker 5: Okay, you've ever heard okay? This is so so interesting
- 44:50Speaker 5: to me, so funny because I actually feel like I've
- 44:53Speaker 5: been wandering through sort of this mirage for a long time.
- 44:58Speaker 5: You're the victim, Like we've been sort of like feeling out.
