- 0:00Speaker 1: The Driver's Show, powered by in a Midsoon Nano Taylor
- 0:03Speaker 1: toil over a century of engineering excellence meets cutting edge
- 0:07Speaker 1: nanoscale technology.
- 0:14Speaker 2: So I know that we're a car podcast, but I'm
- 0:17Speaker 2: just getting some breaking news right now. President Trump newly
- 0:20Speaker 2: elected President Trump. So he's going through his department and
- 0:25Speaker 2: he's put up the head of Innovation, which is Elon Mask,
- 0:28Speaker 2: the chairman of Awesome, which now goes to send us
- 0:31Speaker 2: a hulk Hogan, and also the CFO of our fuck
- 0:36Speaker 2: it That'll do demo that goes to the guy who
- 0:38Speaker 2: designed the keya tasmin.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah. It's a thing, isn't it. Wow.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to talk about that in a second.
- 0:48Speaker 2: How have you been? Tanned? Man?
- 0:51Speaker 3: Busy?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah? Look, how tang you are?
- 0:52Speaker 3: I was in Fiji.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Well you just bulla Okay, calm down. Burnt Reynolds.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I don't know who that is, but yes, Burt.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Reynolds, it's a pun on Burt Reynolds. Don't worry.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I know you're a bit slow. You are, right, yeah,
- 1:08Speaker 3: on silence.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I think you've got some cognitive decline going on.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Call me Joe.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah. So hey, oh, by the way, we should mention
- 1:19Speaker 2: that we're now sponsored. Big ups, Amitsu, thank you for
- 1:22Speaker 2: your tailor made oils. Taylor made Nano tailored oils from Imitsu.
- 1:29Speaker 2: These are nice. The packaging is good too. Apparently this
- 1:31Speaker 2: is just for Australian customers, only limited to Ossie customers,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and this is purely online, which we'll tell you about
- 1:38Speaker 2: later on.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Very exciting. Wow.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so the key to Tasman.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Ask me if it looks better in person?
- 1:45Speaker 2: Now? Okay, you were there, right, So you're at Tasmania.
- 1:50Speaker 2: You're in. Did they launch this in Hobart?
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah, just because at the well, we stayed at the
- 1:54Speaker 3: Tasman Hotel.
- 1:56Speaker 2: We're all good launcher stuft.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's in Tasmania and it's called the care Tasmin.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So you see the bloody brilliant play on words. Let's
- 2:06Speaker 2: fly everyone chuck them on the spirit of Tazzy. Paul
- 2:11Speaker 2: got a bit lost, so Donna pointed to a map
- 2:13Speaker 2: of Tazzy. You go through the bush and turn right.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Jesus, you ended up in the Hobart River.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It was wet, it was deep.
- 2:23Speaker 2: They had to send out some cave rescuers, some beacon
- 2:28Speaker 2: Field and never was seen again. Sorry, this is gone
- 2:35Speaker 2: to a good start anyway. So you're in Tazzy, Can
- 2:37Speaker 2: I ask you one thing, Take me through the start
- 2:41Speaker 2: of this launch, like, like, I want to know what happened?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Did you sit down?
- 2:45Speaker 3: Yeah? Okay. So there was a bit of confusion because
- 2:48Speaker 3: it was it was simultaneously being launched in Jedda, which
- 2:52Speaker 3: is in Saudi Arabia, and they basically had this live
- 2:57Speaker 3: cross to Saudi Arabia and then they would do the
- 3:00Speaker 3: unveiling in Australia at the same time. And the theme
- 3:04Speaker 3: was that Australian music was playing in this venue. It
- 3:06Speaker 3: was at the wharf across the road from the Tasman
- 3:08Speaker 3: Hotel for the whole night except when they revealed the car,
- 3:13Speaker 3: when they started playing Metallica enter Sandman and I'm like,
- 3:17Speaker 3: great song, doesn't fit the theme of everything else.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You're gonna say Saudi Arabian music.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Oh so yeah, they started playing that, and then the
- 3:25Speaker 3: silk silks came off the car.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Okay, now this is the bit I'm interested in, right,
- 3:30Speaker 2: So when the silks came off, ye, could you hear
- 3:35Speaker 2: the gasps? Could you hear? Like, like, I just imagine
- 3:39Speaker 2: ladies and gentlemen, the Keia Tasman. Everyone's silent, and then
- 3:43Speaker 2: you just hear the guy the bar making a cappuccino.
- 3:50Speaker 3: It was it was like that scene out of total Recall,
- 3:52Speaker 3: you know, we just got three boobs. It was like,
- 3:55Speaker 3: that's something's od here. No, look, styling is entirely subjective.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So it's what you tell me in the text message.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Well yes, but like my wife married me, and I
- 4:06Speaker 3: think that tells you enough, and someone will like the Tasmin.
- 4:10Speaker 3: But my issue is more just the technical stuff, right,
- 4:13Speaker 3: and if I look at the design where the head
- 4:15Speaker 3: lights are.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Oh, that's bizarre. They're like a goldfisher's eyes.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're very outbuart and if you are doing
- 4:21Speaker 3: a lot of off roading and you're driving through the
- 4:23Speaker 3: bush and stuff and you hit those lights with trees
- 4:26Speaker 3: and shit, you're going to basically break the lights. And
- 4:29Speaker 3: those lights will be very expensive. So most brands will
- 4:32Speaker 3: have in board lights so that you don't run the
- 4:34Speaker 3: risk of doing that. The engine just seems like an
- 4:36Speaker 3: odd choice. They've gone with what will be the lowest
- 4:39Speaker 3: talk output in the segment, one of the lowest talk
- 4:41Speaker 3: outputs in the segment.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Is this the same engine they put in the Cyrene day.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, palisade, right, but this way is more than both
- 4:50Speaker 3: Sorrento Palisade and that type of thing. So I just
- 4:53Speaker 3: think technically there's a few misses there in terms of
- 4:55Speaker 3: the features though. The interior is fantastic. You know, it's
- 4:59Speaker 3: got reclining seat. It's in the second rows. You can
- 5:01Speaker 3: kick back and have a cuddle if you wants.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Would you did you do that? Would you have a
- 5:06Speaker 2: cuddle in the care tasma? On my own producer lives here,
- 5:09Speaker 2: would you? Would you just yell out? Would you have
- 5:11Speaker 2: a cuddle in the care tasma? You do what I
- 5:14Speaker 2: do it? You take your nies off. Jesus Christ.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You have to have them all to start with them?
- 5:19Speaker 2: And does that? Yeah, well these days she doesn't, which
- 5:21Speaker 2: is very handy whenever we lose her. It's just like,
- 5:24Speaker 2: I don't know what live is. Just follow the yellow
- 5:25Speaker 2: drop road or.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Anyway. So yeah, features great, It's got storage in the
- 5:33Speaker 3: rear wheel, arch VKFC or your curry so you don't
- 5:36Speaker 3: stick up the car.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Okay, So yeah, look at those parts are good.
- 5:39Speaker 3: But yeah, what do you think of the design?
- 5:42Speaker 2: When I first saw it, I texted you, going, it
- 5:44Speaker 2: looks like a tasmin like it looks in bread so
- 5:48Speaker 2: and you went, well, the design is a bit challenging,
- 5:51Speaker 2: to say the least. I'm like, okay, conservative Pabli, thank
- 5:54Speaker 2: you for your opinion. We're on text message. I just
- 5:57Speaker 2: don't think I like it at all. It's kind of
- 6:00Speaker 2: weird because it was launched around the same time as
- 6:03Speaker 2: the BYD Shark and I get ones A hybrid ones
- 6:07Speaker 2: not that all that's a site design wise, I think
- 6:10Speaker 2: that was a free point to BYD yep.
- 6:12Speaker 3: And the bid looks like a clone of the Fine
- 6:15Speaker 3: fifty Lightning.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It looks like a clone of a lot of things. Yes,
- 6:18Speaker 2: it looks like a clone of the Ranger, but that
- 6:20Speaker 2: is a.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Good point, right, So they had to do something different.
- 6:23Speaker 3: It couldn't look just like everything else and everything else
- 6:25Speaker 3: just kind of looks the same.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Did they need to do something different?
- 6:28Speaker 3: Well, you have to because you're you're launching a ute
- 6:31Speaker 3: in a very competitive segment, and otherwise it's just going
- 6:35Speaker 3: to look like everything else. It had to look different.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I don't know if that's too different, but.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, for their first go for their debut.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Well, it was funny. They actually had the designer and
- 6:46Speaker 3: the interior designer on stage, thank god, And one of
- 6:49Speaker 3: the first questions was is it too late to change
- 6:52Speaker 3: the design? Ask that, Yeah, I can't remember who it was,
- 6:58Speaker 3: but it was like, yes, it is opped in so yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 3: and I think certain colors help.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah, the black. I saw it in all black. It's
- 7:07Speaker 2: like black, a black T shirt works on me fine,
- 7:09Speaker 2: because it shades out my fat Yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Oh hey, hey hey, sure of course confidence subjective. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 3: I just think that it's yeah, look, I'm not sure.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah, what what does that mean?
- 7:26Speaker 3: Seven year warranty. Perhaps for fleets that don't really care
- 7:29Speaker 3: what design looks like, they might go for it. Yeah,
- 7:32Speaker 3: what do you reckon? Do you like the look?
- 7:35Speaker 2: Oh? I don't have a mic on your just pretend
- 7:40Speaker 2: you can come over here, just come over here, come
- 7:44Speaker 2: over here.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I didn't No, I didn't mind the I didn't mind it.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I think it reminded me of a bit of the
- 7:50Speaker 4: Ford Bronco. Oh yeah, okay, a little bit of that aspect.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I had your eyes closed.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't see that at all. But talking about
- 8:00Speaker 2: the same car, let's keep this mic on me.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 2: No, it's interesting where you look at, say, the placement
- 8:09Speaker 2: of those headlights anything like a Toyota product, which is
- 8:13Speaker 2: synonymous with being off road. Their headlights are right at
- 8:17Speaker 2: the front. It's just it's a weird choice. And they're
- 8:20Speaker 2: very thin as well. I think the interior looks good.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I know I'm being hard on it. The interior does
- 8:24Speaker 2: look good. I think they've done something great there. The
- 8:26Speaker 2: thing is with their competitors, like I say, a Toyota,
- 8:30Speaker 2: they've nailed it over the interior of a highlights absolutely right.
- 8:34Speaker 2: But the outside it did soften on me, which is
- 8:38Speaker 2: not unusual for me. As you know, it's pulverizing or polarizing, polarizing.
- 8:45Speaker 2: What did I say pulverizing? I said that last time.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It's polarizing.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I don't know what.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I'm just doing my main thing. I do this for
- 8:52Speaker 2: a living. It's polarizing. It's definitely out there. I'm trying
- 8:58Speaker 2: to find some good bits to Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Look, I think they're gonna have a challenge with pricing
- 9:03Speaker 3: because you don't want it to be cheap because then
- 9:05Speaker 3: it will be competing with Chinese vehicles. Don't want to
- 9:08Speaker 3: be expensive because it doesn't have an engine for that,
- 9:11Speaker 3: So it's going to be sort of middle of the range.
- 9:14Speaker 3: I suspect, so they'll have a strong warranty seven years,
- 9:17Speaker 3: which will be helpful.
- 9:19Speaker 2: The key are good with that sort of stuff, I
- 9:20Speaker 2: will say, with honoring warranty, they're great.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I think it's to watch this space, yes, And I
- 9:26Speaker 2: think the shock value of the design will soften definitely
- 9:30Speaker 2: when this thing is on the road, when we start
- 9:32Speaker 2: seeing more of these cars and.
- 9:33Speaker 3: The acesseries and stuff. I think as well.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so so in the let's just say, if
- 9:40Speaker 2: it was a battle between the BYD Shark and the
- 9:45Speaker 2: Kia Tasman, who won the launch, Ah, well.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Look up I bydvo by virtue of the fact that
- 9:51Speaker 3: it's fifty eight grand or whenever plus on roads that
- 9:54Speaker 3: is so cheap, so cheap, like it's I think it's
- 9:56Speaker 3: even cheaper than that. Yeah, So I think that point
- 10:00Speaker 3: of view that they've won that, and it's just got
- 10:02Speaker 3: so many features and all that sort of stuff. So
- 10:04Speaker 3: I think they've done well with that. But yeah, well
- 10:06Speaker 3: we'll see. I've got to drive that care first to
- 10:09Speaker 3: see what it's like.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I think. Yeah, I can't wait to see you in
- 10:12Speaker 2: that with the Cowboy hat week ladies in gener verizing. Hey,
- 10:17Speaker 2: you know what we should talk the new Jug, the
- 10:21Speaker 2: new jug logo. What do you think?
- 10:24Speaker 3: So let me just run through some stats here for you.
- 10:28Speaker 2: No, the stats no one wanted and no one asked for.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I literally asked for an opinion.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Numbers. Here we go, so get my calculator out. Not
- 10:34Speaker 3: just kidding. If you go to the Jaguar Instagram page,
- 10:37Speaker 3: they literally deleted all of Jaguar's previous posts. Yes, so
- 10:43Speaker 3: everything is gone. And then when they did their relaunch,
- 10:47Speaker 3: they launched with the video and I thought, oh, I
- 10:51Speaker 3: think someone has hacked their account, because there's no no
- 10:55Speaker 3: way a car company would ever do this. So if
- 10:57Speaker 3: you look at their Instagram page, they launaunched this rebrand
- 11:01Speaker 3: six days ago. Since then, they have lost a lot
- 11:08Speaker 3: of followers. So they had seventeen million followers and they've
- 11:11Speaker 3: lost a few thousand of them. On the Friday the fifteenth,
- 11:16Speaker 3: a couple of days before they did this launched, they
- 11:19Speaker 3: basically removed two hundred pieces of media, which was Jaguar's
- 11:23Speaker 3: entire history on Instagram. Yeah, someone had to go through
- 11:26Speaker 3: and just randomly do that.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So they only have four posts currently and three of
- 11:30Speaker 2: them I'm not sure what they are, and one of
- 11:32Speaker 2: them is a group of people.
- 11:34Speaker 3: So that group of people, which is one of those
- 11:36Speaker 3: standard advertisements where they just find all the people they
- 11:42Speaker 3: can to just jam into this thing to make a statement. Anyway,
- 11:46Speaker 3: the statement they made was we no longer care about
- 11:49Speaker 3: our history and here is the biggest pileot pooh. We
- 11:53Speaker 3: could come up with seven million views fifty thousand comments.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I mean, who thought that was a good idea. It
- 12:02Speaker 3: is a horror show of a thing. Because to me,
- 12:05Speaker 3: if I saw this, I would not know this as
- 12:07Speaker 3: a car company. I would have thought they were advertising
- 12:09Speaker 3: some fashion show that I don't want to go to,
- 12:11Speaker 3: But this is a car company. They then followed it
- 12:13Speaker 3: up in the days after with a picture of what
- 12:16Speaker 3: looks like an air conditioner and then Jaguar logo that
- 12:19Speaker 3: they've they've managed to ruin as well. It is confusing.
- 12:25Speaker 2: That does look like one of those old old school
- 12:28Speaker 2: art deco like F one racing posters. Do you know
- 12:31Speaker 2: what I mean? It's vibe yeah, or air conditioner from
- 12:35Speaker 2: the seventies. Do you know the fonts? The actual font
- 12:39Speaker 2: is pretty much identical to the font they use for
- 12:42Speaker 2: Beats headphones. Oh really, it's pretty much exactly the same.
- 12:46Speaker 2: If you look at the A.
- 12:47Speaker 3: But are they do they miss like misuse capitals and
- 12:51Speaker 3: lowercase in beats headphones as well.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Let's have a look at the beats.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Because here it's capital J small A, capital G small,
- 12:59Speaker 3: U small A small r's. Oh yeah, it's like literally
- 13:04Speaker 3: the exact same.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Wow, So they're copying headphones. Maybe they're just not going
- 13:10Speaker 3: to do cars. Maybe that's their thing.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Well, this is this is a confusing point because they've
- 13:18Speaker 2: launched this too horror without showing one single car. So
- 13:24Speaker 2: if I look at this subjectively, I think this has
- 13:28Speaker 2: how many views? So seven million views, seven million views.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Fifty thousand comments, but fifty thousand comments. They have been
- 13:35Speaker 3: deleting comments as well, which is just a rookie fail.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they should just definitely leave that. One
- 13:40Speaker 2: would say this is excellent.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah from a reach and hey, Jaguar's rebranding point of view,
- 13:48Speaker 3: it's fantastic.
- 13:49Speaker 2: This could be one of the greatest pr advertising stunts
- 13:54Speaker 2: of all time because you think about it, a conservative
- 13:57Speaker 2: old brand. When was the last time somebody talked like,
- 14:01Speaker 2: when did the motor industry talk this much about Jag
- 14:05Speaker 2: And when was the last time they got seven million
- 14:08Speaker 2: views and fifty two thousand comments or.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Whatever it is. So never never, So all you need
- 14:14Speaker 3: to do is just get a bunch of strange looking
- 14:16Speaker 3: people into a room and film them walking around.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I think the people behind this, whether I think it's
- 14:22Speaker 2: great or not, I think the people behind this are
- 14:26Speaker 2: far more smarter than we are in a lot of ways.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Let me just ask you one point, right, My feeling
- 14:32Speaker 2: is they know a lot of things that we don't
- 14:33Speaker 2: in terms of they're like, you know what, the old
- 14:36Speaker 2: conservatives who we know doing this podcast are very opinionated
- 14:41Speaker 2: and loud. So the old conservatives who are their core
- 14:46Speaker 2: audience and who have always bought Jags, they haven't bought
- 14:50Speaker 2: a Jag in years, and there's not really much interest
- 14:53Speaker 2: in Jag twenty twenty four. So now I feel like
- 14:57Speaker 2: maybe they're just throwing out that leather bound rule book
- 15:01Speaker 2: that the oldies have and they're now aiming for a fresh,
- 15:06Speaker 2: cashed up crowd. I think they're just throwing everything out
- 15:10Speaker 2: because young people now they've got more cash than ever before,
- 15:13Speaker 2: and they're willing to like the new money people. They
- 15:16Speaker 2: want to show it off.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Okay, so let's go with that theory, right, So they've
- 15:21Speaker 3: gone all electric, that's their thing. These cars will cost
- 15:24Speaker 3: probably from at least one hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
- 15:27Speaker 3: At the moment, nobody is buying an electric car worth
- 15:29Speaker 3: over one hundred grand. So automatically they're failing just by
- 15:33Speaker 3: making only cars that no one's buying.
- 15:35Speaker 2: But you're assuming that they're going to sell electric cars.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Nowty thousand dollars. They are. No, They've said they're only
- 15:41Speaker 3: doing electric. Yeah, their branding position will be premium. There's
- 15:46Speaker 3: no way they're going to go, oh, we're going to
- 15:47Speaker 3: do thirty nine nine ninety electric cars right.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 15:50Speaker 3: And the reason I reckon they weren't expecting this reaction
- 15:54Speaker 3: is because they're equally woke. CEO came out and said
- 15:58Speaker 3: in an internal memo, their team, dear JLR team, Our
- 16:02Speaker 3: new Jaguar brand has been introduced to the world this week.
- 16:06Speaker 3: The work of the team has been guided and inspired
- 16:09Speaker 3: by the timeless quote of Jaguar's founder, Sir William Lyons
- 16:12Speaker 3: a copy of nothing. I think if he had seen
- 16:16Speaker 3: any of this, he'd probably anyway it goes on. I'm
- 16:20Speaker 3: also reminded of another quote from Sir William The car
- 16:23Speaker 3: is the closest thing we will ever create to something
- 16:26Speaker 3: that is alive. This humanistic, organic connection to everything that
- 16:30Speaker 3: carries the Jaguar brand has never been more evident. Blah
- 16:33Speaker 3: blah blah, and then goes down to say, in this context,
- 16:36Speaker 3: the visceral response to the reimagining of the Jaguar brand
- 16:40Speaker 3: is understandable, inspiring even. He then says, but for all
- 16:45Speaker 3: the joy and excitement, there has been an undercurrent of
- 16:47Speaker 3: unacceptable behavior this week. While I welcome all constructive debate
- 16:51Speaker 3: and critique of our polarizing plans, I have to stand
- 16:54Speaker 3: in front of the colleagues who have singled, who have
- 16:57Speaker 3: been singled out for their individuality. It goes on with
- 17:00Speaker 3: more apologetic stuff. But that to me, if you're then
- 17:04Speaker 3: deleting comments you don't like, well that's not him. Well
- 17:07Speaker 3: he's instructing someone to do that. Someone would have gone, hey,
- 17:10Speaker 3: should we delete these comments that are open and honest
- 17:12Speaker 3: about what people actually think.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I don't think the head of the comedy is going
- 17:16Speaker 2: delete the comment. That would be fair.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Yeah, But if he's now coming out and apologizing for
- 17:21Speaker 3: doing that, then I think he would absolutely know about it.
- 17:24Speaker 3: So my concern is that if you're going to go
- 17:27Speaker 3: out there and do this sort of stuff, except the flack,
- 17:30Speaker 3: and the flack has been massive. I think this is
- 17:32Speaker 3: backfired hugely for them. That the pr is great, but
- 17:35Speaker 3: it's now just going to negatively affect what they do
- 17:39Speaker 3: moving forward. You're going to have to change your strategy.
- 17:40Speaker 3: You can't just keep going with this.
- 17:42Speaker 2: You've got to evolve.
- 17:44Speaker 3: And just the fact that they go through and then
- 17:46Speaker 3: delete all the stuff they don't like that just annoys me.
- 17:49Speaker 3: If you're going to go bold and do all that
- 17:50Speaker 3: sort of stuff, great, but just stick to it and
- 17:53Speaker 3: then just wait and.
- 17:54Speaker 2: See what happens they want to start again, They're going
- 17:56Speaker 2: to get flak, They're going to get the conservatives beating
- 18:00Speaker 2: their chest.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Can I also say as well, I actually feel sorry
- 18:03Speaker 3: for a lot of the people that work at Jaguar
- 18:05Speaker 3: because the designers, the engineers, everyone outside of the marketing.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Team, advertisers advertizing.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it has nothing to do with all this nonsense.
- 18:15Speaker 3: They're there to do their job and I think that
- 18:18Speaker 3: any negativity towards them is unfounded and not required. But
- 18:24Speaker 3: if you're copying negativity over how stupid your ad campaign
- 18:27Speaker 3: is cop it on the chin and either don't do
- 18:30Speaker 3: it again or stick with it and leave the comments
- 18:33Speaker 3: and then if people buy your card, great. If that home,
- 18:36Speaker 3: you lose your job. You go sell fashion, couches and
- 18:40Speaker 3: stuff whatever you want to go sell couches.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Hello, welcome to Fantastic Furniture. I see if you want
- 18:44Speaker 2: to go for the floor manager role. What sort of
- 18:49Speaker 2: experience do you have? Well, I designed the new logo
- 18:52Speaker 2: for the jag Sorry there's the door. Thank you so
- 18:57Speaker 2: much for coming in, Gordy.
- 19:00Speaker 3: You've worked with Itamitsu before at their launch event.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Right, yeah, I have. I've got to say I was
- 19:05Speaker 2: really impressed. These guys have been leaders in oil innovation
- 19:09Speaker 2: for over a century. I mean they're the ones trusted
- 19:12Speaker 2: by Toyota and Mazda to deliver precision Enginet oils straight
- 19:17Speaker 2: from the factory, and now they're bringing this same expertise
- 19:21Speaker 2: directly to OSSI owners. Like this is exciting times.
- 19:24Speaker 3: So what stood out to you the most?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Okay, so they've got this nano tailored oil and this
- 19:29Speaker 2: stuff is next level. I mean they don't just make
- 19:32Speaker 2: the kind of who Hi everyday products. Every formula is
- 19:36Speaker 2: designed with a purpose. So we've got the IFG three,
- 19:39Speaker 2: this is perfect for city driving. This is where you're
- 19:42Speaker 2: in that sort of stop start traffic, the stuff that
- 19:45Speaker 2: really puts the stress on your engine. Then you've got
- 19:47Speaker 2: the IFG seven. Now this is a beast for high
- 19:52Speaker 2: performance vehicles. Seven layers of protection on this one, and
- 19:55Speaker 2: it's got their nano cleansing tech that stops oil breakdowns
- 20:00Speaker 2: even in the harshest of conditions. And if you're driving
- 20:03Speaker 2: a Japanese car, the IFG five is built for precision
- 20:07Speaker 2: engineered engines, offering five layers of protection to keep your
- 20:11Speaker 2: engine clean and running smoothly.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Gee, that sounds like some serious attention to detail.
- 20:16Speaker 2: That's what I'm all about. I'm all about the detailed Pavelo.
- 20:19Speaker 2: You know this about me. The IFG seven isn't just oil.
- 20:23Speaker 2: It's like giving your engine a custom built suit of armor.
- 20:25Speaker 2: And it doesn't just protect your engine too, it optimizes performance.
- 20:29Speaker 2: So if you're into keeping your car at its absolute best,
- 20:33Speaker 2: this is the oil that you want. And now it's
- 20:35Speaker 2: easy to get as well. Right, Yeah, it's really easy.
- 20:37Speaker 2: It's all online. Just search out Itamitsu Australia, that's id
- 20:41Speaker 2: E m it Su Australia, or you can write this
- 20:46Speaker 2: one down au dot Iamitsu slash Nano slash Tailored slashoil
- 20:52Speaker 2: dot com and they will ship this straight to your door,
- 20:56Speaker 2: no fuss, just top tier oil delivered where ever you are.
- 21:01Speaker 3: If it's good enough for manufacturers like Toyota and Masda,
- 21:03Speaker 3: then it sounds good enough for me.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Gordon, thank you. That's exactly right, Pavla. Hey, with it
- 21:08Speaker 2: a MIDSU. You're getting oil that's designed to handle whatever
- 21:12Speaker 2: you throw at it. They've been trusted by the best
- 21:15Speaker 2: part for over one hundred years for a reason.
- 21:17Speaker 3: It Omitsu taking you beyond engine protection to real driving excitement.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Couldn't have said it better myself. That was great.
- 21:24Speaker 3: I'm always carrying this show.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Hey, quick drives this week I quickly jumped into and
- 21:30Speaker 2: I know you've spent a lot of time in the
- 21:32Speaker 2: new Prato Quickly, what do we think.
- 21:35Speaker 3: I'm just about to have a proper drive. I have
- 21:36Speaker 3: sat in it, and I like the look of it,
- 21:40Speaker 3: and I think from a packaging point of view, it
- 21:42Speaker 3: looks cool. But let's see, let's see after I drive it.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah, the underpower it might not be.
- 21:49Speaker 3: You never know, Yeah, really, you ever know?
- 21:52Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I don't know. I've got some concerns. I
- 21:55Speaker 2: think the design looks great.
- 21:57Speaker 3: I'm so on a scale of one to jag you
- 21:59Speaker 3: or how can so.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Different different scale, I would say, I'm not even on
- 22:05Speaker 2: the ape scale.
- 22:05Speaker 3: I guess it doesn't have pronouns.
- 22:07Speaker 2: No, no, it's got no pronouns. It's not gender liquid
- 22:10Speaker 2: or whatever. It's fantastic. No, I think that. I think
- 22:14Speaker 2: they've I mean, we've seen and sat on this design
- 22:16Speaker 2: for a long time. It looks great, it's accessible, and
- 22:20Speaker 2: I think it's going to appeal to anyone from a
- 22:22Speaker 2: young cashed up trade to an older conservative cashed up
- 22:28Speaker 2: cashed up you'll have to be yeah, well that's where
- 22:30Speaker 2: I was going to going with the criticism. But the yeah,
- 22:32Speaker 2: I think the old school conservatives is like, my bloody
- 22:35Speaker 2: dad's looking at this now. I did have a look
- 22:37Speaker 2: in the boot of it. It has a horror shot
- 22:40Speaker 2: so where they used to have the tire at the back.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I actually think it's a great move to remove that.
- 22:45Speaker 2: It looks makes the car look so much better. But
- 22:47Speaker 2: what they've done is they put it under the car.
- 22:49Speaker 2: That's kind of risen the boot. I don't know what
- 22:51Speaker 2: about fifteen centimeters. Yeah, that's a bit Oh, how's it going?
- 22:57Speaker 2: The price?
- 22:58Speaker 3: Geez, that's like twenty grand more.
- 23:00Speaker 2: It's expensive, and you're pretty much like for a decent
- 23:04Speaker 2: spec you're looking at around about one hundred thousand on
- 23:06Speaker 2: the road.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Well, it is very fluid with a three hundred series
- 23:10Speaker 3: in terms of price.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and they share the same platform too, right.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but anyway, we'll go into all detail on the
- 23:17Speaker 3: next show.
- 23:17Speaker 2: If we have a drive you know what I'm currently
- 23:19Speaker 2: driving rounds, I'll go on. My garage is full of
- 23:23Speaker 2: the nice stuff. Not only do I have the Genesis
- 23:25Speaker 2: GB sixty smells like Vivas is soon the Delsa sooon.
- 23:34Speaker 3: It smells like my salon. It smells like hair gel
- 23:37Speaker 3: from the eighties salon.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Plus, I've also got the Alfa Romeo Stelvia quadrifolia. Yeah.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Interesting, and you've spelt it here at Stelvia. Isn't that
- 23:49Speaker 3: like a sweetener?
- 23:50Speaker 2: No, that's my Greek maid? You doing? What are you going?
- 23:56Speaker 2: Shut up? Stellavia iron the curtains. That car is only
- 24:01Speaker 2: great after you hit a hundred.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's getting on and I think they've they've also.
- 24:08Speaker 2: It's expensive too.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they've kind of just not really bothered with it anymore,
- 24:13Speaker 3: which is a bit interesting.
- 24:14Speaker 2: But anyway, I don't think that crowd can afford it,
- 24:16Speaker 2: Like it's a bloody expensive car.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not expensive if you go in and actually haggle,
- 24:21Speaker 3: because I don't think they're selling any of them, so
- 24:23Speaker 3: they'll do a price on them.
- 24:24Speaker 2: But this particular one doesn't have the sunroof, which I
- 24:26Speaker 2: was disappointed for for the price. I'm like, I like
- 24:28Speaker 2: a sunroof. It's just the problem is it's a it's
- 24:32Speaker 2: an engaging car, it's direct, it feels great on the road.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It does. It's just got a few little irks, which
- 24:40Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, I wish they nailed it.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Just entertainment's a bit shit.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yes it's I mean it's still plugged in, but even
- 24:46Speaker 2: that's not working on me at the moment. So, like
- 24:49Speaker 2: I won't say for all of them, but my particular
- 24:51Speaker 2: press car, though infertainment's not working on it, I would
- 24:54Speaker 2: have liked to have seen a sunroof. It makes this
- 24:56Speaker 2: weird kind of I know the breaks are probably decent
- 25:00Speaker 2: on it, but it's it makes this weird kind of
- 25:04Speaker 2: almost like a shuddering at a takeoff, like anything, what's that?
- 25:09Speaker 3: Did you run over anything.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Stelvio, she stealthy is still under the car. So anyway,
- 25:17Speaker 2: look it's I think it's an it's just got it's
- 25:21Speaker 2: a it's a beautiful castill. It looks stunning, but it's
- 25:24Speaker 2: just got a few It's like a bit of corn
- 25:26Speaker 2: that gets stuck in my teeth. That just why did
- 25:28Speaker 2: it have to do that? But otherwise it's it's a
- 25:31Speaker 2: beautiful car. Once you're sort of add on the highway,
- 25:33Speaker 2: it's it's great.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, look I think it looks stunning like that,
- 25:37Speaker 3: even the sad and the yeah cook Julia, that looks
- 25:41Speaker 3: great as well.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I think they've done little sister, Yeah, she she does
- 25:45Speaker 2: in my gardening. She goes, all right, hey, have you
- 25:50Speaker 2: jumped in anything interesting lately?
- 25:53Speaker 3: Been doing? Yeah? I had a quick drive with the B
- 25:55Speaker 3: y D Shark. We'll have a proper drive soon, but
- 26:00Speaker 3: pretty impressed on a first touch basis.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Was it weird getting into a big bruty use and
- 26:07Speaker 2: hearing silence?
- 26:08Speaker 3: Yeah it is. It is quite a weird experience. The
- 26:11Speaker 3: interior is super high tech, ye, yeah, so it's it's
- 26:15Speaker 3: about the few weird things though, like and it's got
- 26:18Speaker 3: vehicle to loads you can power stuff at your campsite,
- 26:21Speaker 3: but for it to work, you've got to have the
- 26:24Speaker 3: car on. So if you're like a sleep in your
- 26:27Speaker 3: tent running something at your campsite, someone could just hop
- 26:32Speaker 3: in your car and just take it off your hands
- 26:34Speaker 3: for you.
- 26:34Speaker 2: That could, I mean, that could hopefully be a software up.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Okay, there's just a few just demonstration. They didn't quite
- 26:40Speaker 3: really quite get what they were doing. But I think
- 26:42Speaker 3: a lot of the stuff is software related, so hopefully
- 26:44Speaker 3: it's easy to fix. We're going to do some towing
- 26:46Speaker 3: and stuff with it as well. That interesting how that goes.
- 26:49Speaker 3: But yeah, first touch, it's not bad.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Does it feel really big because it's it is a
- 26:55Speaker 2: big car.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels heavy. It's like two point seven tons
- 26:58Speaker 3: or something, so it's a big old thing. So yeah, you.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Know how some cars are huge, but they are just
- 27:06Speaker 2: really easy to drive, like like Chevyes for instance. The
- 27:10Speaker 2: Silverado is like the easiest big car I've ever driven.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got lots of cameras and stuff, so it
- 27:15Speaker 3: makes it easy to park. But yeah, TBC, Okay, looking
- 27:20Speaker 3: forward to it.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Okay, MG, cyberst supercar material, supercar material? Is it? Is it? Though?
- 27:29Speaker 2: It's an interesting question because it's one I posed just
- 27:32Speaker 2: before we started. Was when I went into the I
- 27:36Speaker 2: picked this up from a dealership shout out to Alto
- 27:39Speaker 2: north Shore thanks to the car. The head of the
- 27:43Speaker 2: dealership called it. I said, wow, so one hundred and
- 27:46Speaker 2: twenty thousand drive away. Yeah, He's like, yeah, pretty good
- 27:49Speaker 2: for a supercar. Right, I'm like, sorry, what supercar? Okay?
- 27:54Speaker 2: Is that what we're going with? Is that? Does MG
- 27:56Speaker 2: want that known that you you're telling customers that this
- 27:59Speaker 2: is a supercar. What do you think defines a supercar? Um?
- 28:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got acceleration like a supercar.
- 28:08Speaker 2: But how would you define it?
- 28:10Speaker 3: I think the supercar is a well rounded vehicle. I
- 28:14Speaker 3: don't know that this.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Is that sounds like that's just like, yeah, I guess
- 28:18Speaker 2: this is a supercar. Champea just ruffle his hair, get
- 28:21Speaker 2: out of here, Skelly wags, you know, thanks for that supercar.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Look, I think it has to do more than
- 28:27Speaker 3: you just go fast in a straight line.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah. So I was thinking about this, and I think
- 28:31Speaker 2: anything that is pretty much out of the box that
- 28:33Speaker 2: you can competitively take this to the track and on
- 28:37Speaker 2: the road. Like I'm talking like a proper. Yeah, I
- 28:40Speaker 2: don't think track a weapon, and this is not a
- 28:41Speaker 2: track car. How do you think it would go on
- 28:43Speaker 2: the track.
- 28:44Speaker 3: It'd be interesting that breaks, it's got Brenbo branded breaks,
- 28:47Speaker 3: but the actual road, the actual the actual pads are
- 28:51Speaker 3: pretty small. I think that it would have to have
- 28:55Speaker 3: pretty good EV system cooling or will drive pretty big
- 29:00Speaker 3: battery a lot of car and draw for that constant acceleration.
- 29:04Speaker 3: The thing that kind of annoyed me for day to
- 29:06Speaker 3: day stuff is just not being able to see the screens.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Like behind the steering wheel.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Yeah, everything's in the way, and it's so complicated, needlessly
- 29:13Speaker 3: complicated that I just think that they could have maybe
- 29:16Speaker 3: cleaned that up a little bit. I didn't know.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Ye, that didn't bother me strangely enough, I know what
- 29:20Speaker 2: you mean though, Like technically it is behind the wheel
- 29:24Speaker 2: and it is sort of like you kind of peek
- 29:26Speaker 2: in here and there. I was surprised that this thing
- 29:30Speaker 2: has got wired Apple car play, Yeah.
- 29:32Speaker 3: That's annoying.
- 29:33Speaker 2: That's for one hundred and twenty thousand dollars for a
- 29:35Speaker 2: twenty twenty five car. Like produce a live on and
- 29:38Speaker 2: I went to the press launch of this and it
- 29:40Speaker 2: was a great press launch, like, wow, the best I've
- 29:43Speaker 2: ever been to. They pulled out all stops. It was amazing. Right,
- 29:47Speaker 2: there was a lady with a floating stage playing playing
- 29:51Speaker 2: a violin like twenty meters off the ground. There was
- 29:55Speaker 2: bizarre went straight from there to film the Jaguar ad Yeah,
- 29:59Speaker 2: that's right. I don't think it's funny because I don't
- 30:01Speaker 2: think that press launch needed to be that ritzy, because
- 30:03Speaker 2: I think the car spoke for itself. I think it's
- 30:06Speaker 2: the car is it actually holds.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Its own right.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I think the doors, I think it's cool looking and
- 30:10Speaker 2: I think the doors are great. The most interesting first
- 30:14Speaker 2: pressure impression ever was driving in this and taking it
- 30:19Speaker 2: down the back streets and you're sort of going, say
- 30:22Speaker 2: fifty k's and it's a quiet it's a quite relaxing ride,
- 30:26Speaker 2: and I've never really had that with a convertible before.
- 30:30Speaker 2: You know, there's always a lot of there's a lot
- 30:32Speaker 2: of noise. Generally the engine is behind the seats and
- 30:35Speaker 2: there's a lot of stuff going on. It's actually quite relaxing.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I think as a daily it's it's really good. I
- 30:42Speaker 2: didn't get annoyed too much at all by the screens
- 30:44Speaker 2: behind the steering wheel. Funny enough because I do get it.
- 30:49Speaker 2: The parking was yeah, I mean that's where you're looking
- 30:52Speaker 2: at the parking and those screens are quite small, aren't they.
- 30:55Speaker 3: But well, I'm curious, Live, what did you think about it?
- 30:59Speaker 2: Jump on the mic, come on over Live. Was at
- 31:02Speaker 2: the press launch.
- 31:03Speaker 3: What do you think? What do you think?
- 31:04Speaker 4: I think? Looks wise, it was great. The door, the
- 31:06Speaker 4: scissor doors, scissor doors were fantastic. I loved those. Gord,
- 31:10Speaker 4: he looks good in it.
- 31:11Speaker 2: You look good.
- 31:12Speaker 4: It's all right. And Carlstopanovic was at the press law
- 31:16Speaker 4: that was that was something.
- 31:17Speaker 3: But the only funny guy in the room.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yep, that was right.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Boom, that's enough, very good.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I did Actually I did actually ask him where he
- 31:27Speaker 2: got his fake hair from and he said far Lap.
- 31:30Speaker 2: He went down to the Melbourne Museum and just pinched
- 31:32Speaker 2: a bit off far far Up's cubes.
- 31:33Speaker 3: It stuck that on his head. Good. But yeah, I think, yeah,
- 31:38Speaker 3: I'm keen to spend a bit more time in it.
- 31:40Speaker 3: But we are actually using it in an upcoming drag
- 31:42Speaker 3: racing series that we're doing, so we'll chat about that
- 31:44Speaker 3: in the next episode as well. Because I'm kid to
- 31:47Speaker 3: see how it goes.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I think this is as a daily around the streets,
- 31:50Speaker 2: as a convertible goes, as a you know, a proper
- 31:55Speaker 2: driver's car. And that's the thing. That's this thing. I
- 31:58Speaker 2: know it doesn't compete with saying m X or a
- 32:00Speaker 2: Porsche Boxter, but I.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Still see it's own niche. Really you think about it,
- 32:05Speaker 3: there are no other convertible electric cars that are fast
- 32:09Speaker 3: and supercars.
- 32:11Speaker 2: So and by the way, that's that's it. That's probably
- 32:14Speaker 2: the only thing that that the speed on that with
- 32:18Speaker 2: the roof off, like if you're really going to cane
- 32:21Speaker 2: that it's it's it's so bloody quick. It's ballistically quick.
- 32:25Speaker 2: And I don't know about you. You're a tall, massive dude,
- 32:29Speaker 2: and I am like a smurf. And yet I still
- 32:32Speaker 2: found this My head was kind of going over the
- 32:34Speaker 2: window a little bit. I've found it really weird. And
- 32:36Speaker 2: you can't think the seats down exactly.
- 32:38Speaker 3: What's because of the batteries. It doesn't have a like
- 32:41Speaker 3: a windbreak at the back, so you're constantly getting like
- 32:44Speaker 3: just buffeting inside the car.
- 32:46Speaker 2: So I thought visually though, you can definitely like it's
- 32:50Speaker 2: it's great. You can see all around you. Yeah, I
- 32:53Speaker 2: feel like this is a strong car.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Is it worth the price?
- 32:57Speaker 2: Oh that was a quick one hundred and twenty thousand
- 33:00Speaker 2: dollars and LIVEO says, no, interesting, what would you buy instead?
- 33:07Speaker 3: Can I work on yeap in the convertible? Faith?
