- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi everyone, and welcome to the Women's Basketball Coaches Show tonight.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We are live at the Hollow Restaurant, which is Gino's
- 0:06Speaker 1: other restaurant along with Cafe r or at Manchester Country Club.
- 0:09Speaker 2: As we'll talk to you kind of.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Women's basketball for the next hour and then we'll do
- 0:13Speaker 1: an after show with the folks here. Husky's coming off
- 0:15Speaker 1: a pair of wins over Creighton and Marquettes to considue
- 0:19Speaker 1: their undefeated season.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The win streak goes on, but let's start with Saturday.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It's not supposed to be easy winning on the road,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and when you don't play at your best, you get tested.
- 0:29Speaker 1: And that was the case. But the one constant that
- 0:31Speaker 1: has always been there, that is the dirty little secret
- 0:33Speaker 1: of the success of this program is defense. You defend
- 0:37Speaker 1: it really well, despite you know, having some woe shooting
- 0:40Speaker 1: the basketball in the first half, and then Sarah got going.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It was asy and Sarah ak was phenomenal as well,
- 0:47Speaker 1: start to finish.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 0:56Speaker 4: You know, it like Milwaukee was really pretty and it.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Was it was nice, like it was like fifty five.
- 1:05Speaker 4: You go there, you go there in the middle of
- 1:07Speaker 4: February in Milwaukee, and I've been there at times over
- 1:11Speaker 4: the years, obviously a lot when it's teen below the
- 1:14Speaker 4: wind's coming off the lake. You know, there's snow everywhere.
- 1:19Speaker 4: We go up there and it's fifty degrees, not a
- 1:26Speaker 4: you know, speca snow on the ground, people walking around
- 1:31Speaker 4: like in light sweaters. Sarah and my Assimi said, said,
- 1:38Speaker 4: you know, like there's no trash on the streets.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I said, well, this is in Italy.
- 1:46Speaker 4: And it's and it's the Midwest. You know, these nice people,
- 1:49Speaker 4: they don't litter in the Midwest. So the only thing
- 1:54Speaker 4: ugly was the game. You know, sometimes we play pretty
- 2:00Speaker 4: basketball sometimes, you know, you love watching us play and
- 2:03Speaker 4: it's like, oh, isn't that great? You know, they go
- 2:05Speaker 4: flying up and down the floor. That guy gets a layup,
- 2:07Speaker 4: that guy gets a three pointer, that guy makes a
- 2:10Speaker 4: great move. Ah, yeah, you know, they're unbelievable. Did that
- 2:14Speaker 4: really look like the number one team in the country
- 2:16Speaker 4: to you the other day? So you know, sometimes for
- 2:20Speaker 4: different reasons, you know, you just end up in a
- 2:23Speaker 4: game where all the shots that you're used to making
- 2:31Speaker 4: early in the game don't go in. So instead of
- 2:36Speaker 4: the score being sixteen or eighteen to five, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 4: Sarah's one for eight, one for nine, yeah, one for
- 2:43Speaker 4: that first half, nobody can make any shots outside of yeah,
- 2:47Speaker 4: and then you know, obviously we kept throwing the boat easy,
- 2:50Speaker 4: which was good.
- 2:52Speaker 3: And sometimes you get into.
- 2:53Speaker 4: One of those games, and unfortunately we don't have enough
- 2:57Speaker 4: of them, you know, even in the non conference games
- 3:01Speaker 4: other than the Michigan game, we don't have enough of
- 3:04Speaker 4: those games where it's ugly, nothing works, everybody's a little
- 3:10Speaker 4: bit poudy and pissy because I can't make my shots,
- 3:13Speaker 4: you know, and then they lose their mind on defense
- 3:16Speaker 4: and they're not paying attention.
- 3:17Speaker 3: The kid gets a layup, because that's.
- 3:20Speaker 4: How players are, you know, if they can't score, they
- 3:23Speaker 4: lose their concentration on defense too, because they run back
- 3:26Speaker 4: on defense and like, why did that not go in?
- 3:29Speaker 4: And it usually goes in, and meanwhile the guy's cutting
- 3:34Speaker 4: back to her for left.
- 3:35Speaker 3: You know. So, yeah, it was one of those games.
- 3:38Speaker 4: And you know, then we had a great run and
- 3:41Speaker 4: we got up twenty and you go, okay, now you
- 3:44Speaker 4: know the game's going to end, you know, eighty to
- 3:47Speaker 4: eighty to forty five, and we took Sarah al Let's
- 3:51Speaker 4: give her a breather. You know, she's been in and
- 3:52Speaker 4: next thing, you know, we're up. I think we're down ten.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Do we go downten? It felt like we went from.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Up to downtown No No One by fifteen.
- 4:01Speaker 4: We won by fifteen, So you know, I wish we
- 4:05Speaker 4: were more of those games, but it was good to
- 4:07Speaker 4: have one.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, we can talk about Asy's offense to
- 4:11Speaker 1: the Cows come home second straight Big East Player of
- 4:13Speaker 1: the Week on her for her, But defensively we talked
- 4:16Speaker 1: about this last week too.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Has been really good all year.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Maybe the signature play of her career defensively came in
- 4:22Speaker 1: the Marquette game. Lee Vulker thinks she has an easy lamp.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Asy comes flying out of nowhere and gets a block. Yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 1: I'm not sure easy would have done that two and
- 4:30Speaker 1: a half three years ago.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I don't I don't remember it. I don't remember if
- 4:36Speaker 3: she did, I don't think so.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Same with the couple of steals that she's gotten where
- 4:40Speaker 4: she steps in front of a pass. Yeah, these are
- 4:45Speaker 4: things that weren't happening a few years ago. But you know,
- 4:51Speaker 4: she's healthy and she feels really good about herself.
- 4:55Speaker 3: She's comfortable taking a risk, and.
- 5:05Speaker 4: The only thing missing I think in her game is,
- 5:10Speaker 4: and you know, it's just something that when you're such a.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Great shooter, you.
- 5:16Speaker 4: You know, you just take as many shots as you can,
- 5:19Speaker 4: which are great. You know, we want that, but when
- 5:22Speaker 4: you're such a great free throw shooter, and this goes
- 5:24Speaker 4: for Sarah too, the two of them don't shoot enough
- 5:27Speaker 4: free throws. So we got to figure out a way
- 5:30Speaker 4: to do that. They make so many shots. Now, maybe
- 5:34Speaker 4: people just don't want to fall them.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe this scammy reporters don't foil those.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Two because they shoot the free throw line. So other
- 5:45Speaker 4: than that, you know, you watch Asy play and it's
- 5:49Speaker 4: like the Asy Fudd that you know we all saw
- 5:51Speaker 4: play in high school that can make shots from anywhere,
- 5:55Speaker 4: anytime and can single handedly keep you in a game.
- 6:01Speaker 3: You know. So we have we have two great players.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I know everybody else thinks that everybody's great on our team,
- 6:10Speaker 4: but we have two great players that can do things
- 6:16Speaker 4: that most normal players cannot do. And and Blanc is
- 6:20Speaker 4: going to play Wednesday night, so we'll have three players
- 6:23Speaker 4: that can do things that normal players can't do. You know,
- 6:28Speaker 4: Blanc also does things and normal players wouldn't want to do.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Well, she's a freshman.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Yeah, And you know, in most games that you that
- 6:42Speaker 4: you look at the games that we won, we've had
- 6:45Speaker 4: two or three scores, two or three players play great,
- 6:50Speaker 4: but we also had the other guys.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Play really well, shoot the ball really well.
- 6:55Speaker 4: And we didn't have that right, you know, like Ali
- 6:58Speaker 4: went from scoring thirty four points and make ten three.
- 7:00Speaker 4: She didn't score you know, now, Yeah, I get it.
- 7:03Speaker 4: You know, we're we have a team full of guys
- 7:08Speaker 4: that are a little bit sniffley under the weather, and
- 7:13Speaker 4: I guess it's going around. Everybody's got it. I guess
- 7:15Speaker 4: I don't know, so we're not immune to that. And
- 7:19Speaker 4: we looked sluggish and we looked slow, and we looked
- 7:22Speaker 4: like that. So there's a lot of explanations for it,
- 7:26Speaker 4: but I think it's a reminder that we can't just
- 7:30Speaker 4: go out there and go, hey, where Yukon And you're
- 7:33Speaker 4: a Marquette and we want the score to be ninety
- 7:36Speaker 4: to fifty, so could you accommodate us please?
- 7:38Speaker 2: Right, they played hard, they played got after her, and
- 7:41Speaker 2: I wasn't expecting anything less than Milwaukee.
- 7:43Speaker 4: And they're a physical team, you know, they've always been.
- 7:46Speaker 3: They've always been like that.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yep, a lot of fifty to fifty balls. It was
- 7:49Speaker 2: a good scrap, all right. We'll come back with Gino.
- 7:51Speaker 1: More on Easy, more on Sarah, more on kk Arnold's
- 7:55Speaker 1: day nine assists on Saturday. Is the U kind of
- 7:57Speaker 1: Women's basketball Coaches Show? Live from a Hollow continues in
