- 0:03Whoa, coffee is a little hot this morning.
- 0:07Happy Sunday morning everybody. I'm in Chico, CA still.
- 0:12My plane takes off at 1:40 today so I got a little time.
- 0:17When Kim and myself booked this ticket, I said let's let's just
- 0:20take it easy. I've already, you know, been
- 0:24here Friday, Saturday, No, no need to get up at 6:00 in the
- 0:27morning. Not not going to run Quincy
- 0:29today. I did that last time.
- 0:32Boy or me out. All right, so listen, we're
- 0:37going to talk about Corey Day winning the Gold Cup right here
- 0:40in Chico at silver Dollar Speedway.
- 0:43But let's get right away to the NASCAR race.
- 0:46My NASCAR thoughts. Listen, Dale Junior and myself
- 0:51now listen, I'm not throwing Dale Junior in with me.
- 0:53I'm just saying we both said cars are going to flip and I and
- 0:57I still believe NASCAR race cars are going to flip.
- 1:02You're just not going to prevent angle of the dangles all the
- 1:06time, Wallace said. Angle of the dangles, phrase of
- 1:10the day, angle of the dangles. So there, there's going to be
- 1:16times where you're not going to stop physics, OK.
- 1:21However, you know, Josh Berry, again, you know they're going to
- 1:28flip. I get that.
- 1:31But you know, you look at Michael McDowell.
- 1:33Michael McDowell, man, I'm going to tell you what that car is
- 1:37going to flip. Thank God Joey Logano's in his
- 1:41window and keeps him from flipping because I believe he he
- 1:46might have tried to leave the ballpark in turns one and two.
- 1:51And I think the last time we saw that happen at the superspeedway
- 1:54was Jimmy Horton way back in the early 1800s going into turn one
- 1:59at, at Talladega. And by the way, I saw Jimmy
- 2:03Horton up in Oswego a couple years ago.
- 2:06He's doing good. All right.
- 2:10So I still think we got an issue with the flipping.
- 2:13Now, listen, respond right here. It could be a deal where it's a
- 2:17coincidence. Wow, what's what a coincidence?
- 2:21Everybody's been flipping a lot the last two NASCAR races.
- 2:26I believe I saw a stat. I believe I saw a stat.
- 2:31This is not my opinion. Respond right here.
- 2:35I think the stat I saw last night was never, never in NASCAR
- 2:41history has NASCAR had back-to-back weeks.
- 2:46Is it a coincidence? So you look at Corey Lajoie last
- 2:50week at, at Michigan where he just, you know, he launches now
- 2:56he calls that himself 'cause he run into Noah Graxton, Corey
- 3:00Lajoie at Michigan right in front, he runs into, runs into
- 3:04Noah Graxton. He kind of launches his car.
- 3:06So I kind of think that's, that was Corey's deal.
- 3:10He kind of started it, but the car did lift up awfully easy.
- 3:15All right, so NASCAR goes back this week and said we we got
- 3:20some, we got some aerodynamic data from the wind tunnel.
- 3:23We going to put a little Wicker bill for Daytona this week.
- 3:27So they go to flipping again. But this is the first time in
- 3:32NASCAR history I believe respond right here.
- 3:37It's fine if I'm wrong. Listen, it's not important that
- 3:40I'm right. I'm just saying I, I think I saw
- 3:42the stat and they said they'd done their due diligence.
- 3:45They looked through the history of NASCAR, first time in NASCAR
- 3:49history that back-to-back weeks. Coral Joy flips last week,
- 3:55flipping this week. So anyway, all right, enough of
- 3:59the flipping stuff. All I'm saying is cars are going
- 4:02to flip, however, seems like there's a lot of flipping going
- 4:06on lately. Is is it is it just a
- 4:09coincidence? Respond right here because I
- 4:12know that you know everything you know because because you
- 4:16watching while you're drinking beer on the couch.
- 4:25I then so Harrison Burton. I agree with his dad, Jeff.
- 4:33He earned it. Listen, they are going to wreck
- 4:37in every one of those races at Daytona and Talladega.
- 4:40The key is to make it to the end.
- 4:43Remember what Dick Trickle said, You must first finish to finish
- 4:48first. So you know there was a time
- 4:50that if you made it to the end of the Daytona and Talladega
- 4:53race, that meant you was you was a good driver because you knew
- 4:57how to you knew how to navigate not wrecking out.
- 5:01That's bullshit. That's bullshit.
- 5:04You're going to wreck just because because somebody pushes
- 5:09the leader, which is Michael McDowell.
- 5:12They go into turn one, somebody pushes the leader and spins him
- 5:16out. Michael McDowell, leading the
- 5:18race by himself, gets spun out and wrecks the field.
- 5:22What are you going to do? You you don't got to be good to
- 5:26navigate that. You got to be lucky to miss that
- 5:29damn wreck. So that, that deal of, oh, he's
- 5:31a good superspeedway racer. Well, that's fine as long as you
- 5:35don't wreck out. So and it, I've changed my mind
- 5:41the old days when I raced, I'm an old man, I'm 61.
- 5:44When I raced, you could get away from people, you know, five cars
- 5:49would take off and there's a 5 car breakaway.
- 5:52They've got a straightaway on the field here in Daytona. 6th
- 5:57or 10th are five. You know, we had that all the
- 5:59time. We had that in our day.
- 6:02So nowadays you don't get away from nobody.
- 6:05So somebody farts while they're leading the race.
- 6:08Whole field going to smell it. Oh, look, the leader farted.
- 6:1120th place smells it because he's on his ass.
- 6:15That was good. That was good, That was good.
- 6:21All right, get off my ass. If I fart, you go smell my fart.
- 6:26And that's the way it is superspeedway racing cause the
- 6:29leaders here and twenty of those two feet back.
- 6:32So Harrison Burton, here's my point.
- 6:36Harrison Burton deserved the win.
- 6:39That was not a fluke win. Here's why it was not a fluke
- 6:43win. It was not a fluke win because
- 6:45he was side by side with Kyle Busch.
- 6:50And here's the other thing that's crazy.
- 6:52This Parker rats rats lift. I meant this kid at Houston a
- 6:57couple years ago. Remember last it was last year.
- 7:00Remember last year when I drove that cars Tour race for Dale
- 7:03Junior? Dale Junior and me got to
- 7:05talking and Junior goes Herman come run the cars Tour race.
- 7:09So I go to tri-county to test. Well, we get rained out, but as
- 7:13I'm on my way back down 40 EI stopped at Hickory 'cause they
- 7:18running the ASA race and this little skinny kid gets to
- 7:22talking to me. It's Parker.
- 7:25And like you're a race car driver.
- 7:28It was so tiny, so skinny. That kid was who pushed Jet
- 7:35Harrison Burton to the wind last night.
- 7:39That Parker Ratzliff, that little skinny kid growed up a
- 7:42little bit. Now he pushed Harrison Burton to
- 7:46the wind past the big teams. Now, now if that don't cry,
- 7:50these cars are equal like Mark Martin's Mark Martin go back to
- 7:55catching up with Mark Martin last week he said, Herman,
- 7:57they're going to wreck. Same motors, same cars, double
- 8:01foul restart parody beyond belief.
- 8:04So you got Parker Ratcliffe in a in a OK team, but not a super
- 8:09powerhouse team. By the way, he finished 7th.
- 8:12Parker finished 7th. He pushed Harrison Burton past,
- 8:18you know, Kyle Busch, how I was like this.
- 8:21I thought Kyle Busch is going to win this damn race because they
- 8:25knocked everybody out. But then all of a sudden behind
- 8:28Kyle Busch was Christopher Bell, one of the best things.
- 8:31So on the inside lane you had, you had Kyle Busch and
- 8:36Christopher Bell to the fastest race cars right now because RCR
- 8:42has found something. Richard Children's Racing hasn't
- 8:45found something they're back. It was all engineer related.
- 8:50So on that inside lane you had you had Kyle Busch and you had
- 8:55Christopher Bell and on the outside lane you had two guys
- 8:58that have not hit their ass all year long.
- 9:02That's that's just fun. Harrison Burton and Parker
- 9:05Ratcliffe outrun Kyle Busch and and and and Christopher Bell.
- 9:11Are you kidding me? It happened.
- 9:14That's why Harrison deserved to win.
- 9:17And Harrison made some daredevil news coming to the checkered
- 9:20flag. Yes, he did.
- 9:22I believe. And listen how we broke it down.
- 9:24I told my Charlie Marlow. I told Charlie.
- 9:28I said, Charlie, go back to the Jeff Burton Kenny conversation.
- 9:33I said, I believe we talk. We talk about the struggles of
- 9:38Harrison and I said clip that and get let's get that up today
- 9:43because Jeff Burton does talk about Harrison struggle because
- 9:47Harrison Burton, who won last night, he came up winning
- 9:51everything on the short tracks, the the the stock cars, the late
- 9:55model stock cars. Then he wanted, you know,
- 9:59believe the Bush series. So Harrison's real deal.
- 10:03However, you know, he might be just like a Joey Logano.
- 10:06When Joey was at, at, you know, the, the Joe Gibbs teamwork, he
- 10:12struggled. Joey Logano struggled and Joe
- 10:14Gibbs like, I don't want this Joey Logano.
- 10:17Rodger Penske says I'll take him.
- 10:19He's ready now. So maybe it might be a deal
- 10:23where Harrison might be ready pretty soon and some other
- 10:26coroner get the benefits. So Harrison, Harrison learns the
- 10:30race, goes through the struggles, and then somebody
- 10:34reaps the benefits and says I'll take Harrison now.
- 10:37Now I don't see Harrison with a incredible team, but I believe
- 10:43Harrison now, now I've changed my mind because he won last
- 10:47night. That puts him in a different
- 10:48dynamic. Listen, my career could have
- 10:52went through the roof if I could have won One Cup race.
- 10:55Because when you win 1 Cup race, hey, listen, this win by
- 10:59Harrison Burton, he's going to go down in the history books
- 11:03because he won Ford, what, their 100th race, something like that.
- 11:10There's some stat there. Tell me the stat because once
- 11:13again, you know everything. Wallace being snarky this
- 11:18morning. So we're having fun.
- 11:22So that that win last night was unbelievable for all the reasons
- 11:25I just told you that inside lane, come on, Christopher Bell,
- 11:31Kyle Busch versus these children on the outside.
- 11:34I mean, I mean, kids, we're talking 2020 year old kids with,
- 11:40you know, OK, cars. All right, everybody, I I talked
- 11:43about the flipping. I talked about why Harrison
- 11:46Burke deserved the win. And let me just tell you about
- 11:50last night. It's going to be short and
- 11:52sweet. Remember when Kyle Larson and
- 11:56Christopher Bell came along and we're like where those guys come
- 12:00from? They come from open wheel dirt
- 12:02racing. Last night here in Chico, CA,
- 12:07Silver Dollar Speedway. The next phenomenon is on his
- 12:11way. It was Corey Day.
- 12:14This kid destroyed the field. Nobody had nothing for him.
- 12:19Every time they drop the green flag after a caution, there was
- 12:23a time he had like 1/2 a lap against the best, against Rico,
- 12:29against Brad Suite, you name it. So this Corey Day is the real
- 12:34deal. He's he's 18 years old and he's
- 12:37already won this, this Gold Cup back-to-back it paid $100,000 to
- 12:43win. So Corey Day is coming to you.
- 12:46He Hendrick was smart. Kyle Larson told Rick Hendrick.
- 12:51Hendrick said, well, let's get him signed up.
- 12:53So Corey Day is already running ARCA and watch out for him.
- 12:58He's only 18. Calm down, calm down.
- 13:02I'm just saying he's coming. Look for him to be in the Cub
- 13:06series. I'd say five years, 18/19/2022,
- 13:11maybe 4-5 years. But I've I've he'll be there.
- 13:17What else? Dirt side live.
- 13:19The reason I came out here. Hey Wallace, where'd you go out
- 13:22there for? You know how we do trackside
- 13:25live at the NASCAR tracks. We did a dirtside live here, all
- 13:29Brad Sweets idea and buddy, we hit a home run.
- 13:33We tested it. We tested a dirtside live.
- 13:36We did one at Texas and it was big.
- 13:39So Brad's got this. Brad Sweet and his wife, Rachel
- 13:43and the Larsons, Kyle Larson, Caitlin Larson, a mom to dad,
- 13:47Don Sweet, everybody. They got this high limit deal
- 13:50going. So it was a show.
- 13:53There was so much stuff going on every everywhere you looked
- 13:56there was something going on. But Dirtside Live was awesome
- 13:59because we interviewed some of the greatest open wheel dirt
- 14:03racers of all time. A buddy.
- 14:04We had a good time. The fans were laughing.
- 14:07They were oh so good time. They sang me happy birthday too.
- 14:13All right everybody see you later.
- 14:16I'll probably, I'm probably going to go Charleston, IL
- 14:21Saturday next week because all my local tracks are shut down
- 14:26next week. So probably Charleston, IL
- 14:30Saturday next week, Quincy on Sunday.
- 14:33All right, I'm right. I miss Kim, I miss my wife.
- 14:38I'm on my way home.
