- 0:00Speaker 1: Football and four powered by the Inside the Birds podcast
- 0:02Speaker 1: and of course it has brought you by the Fanatic
- 0:04Speaker 1: Sports Book At Ocean Cansino Resort in Atlantic City, it's
- 0:07Speaker 1: place to be this football season, which is winding down
- 0:09Speaker 1: to the final three weeks of the season, the Eagles
- 0:13Speaker 1: looking to snap a twenty year draft of back to
- 0:17Speaker 1: back division champions. Let's get Jeff Mosher's take on what
- 0:21Speaker 1: he saw from the Birds in their win against the Raiders. Jeff,
- 0:25Speaker 1: is it just the Raiders or did we start to
- 0:27Speaker 1: see some things that make you feel warm and fuzzy
- 0:31Speaker 1: moving forward here that maybe, just maybe the offense is
- 0:35Speaker 1: catching up to the defense and turning that corner. We
- 0:37Speaker 1: saw some things in the game the week before that.
- 0:39Speaker 1: You said, last week, Hey, they tried some new things.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I like what they've tried to do. Did they implement
- 0:45Speaker 1: more in the game that actually worked on Sunday against
- 0:50Speaker 1: the Raiders? How are you, my friend?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Good? Mike good? Yeah, they certainly did implement some things.
- 0:55Speaker 3: You know, last week we talked about more modern passing concepts,
- 1:00Speaker 3: and this week against the Raiders, they made a little
- 1:02Speaker 3: bit of more of an implementation into how they run
- 1:05Speaker 3: the ball.
- 1:05Speaker 2: There predominantly.
- 1:06Speaker 3: We've known them to be an inside zone running team.
- 1:12Speaker 3: You know, we don't have to get into details of
- 1:13Speaker 3: what it means to be a zone run, but you
- 1:15Speaker 3: know what they did in this game was and they
- 1:18Speaker 3: started it right from the start. You saw three tight
- 1:21Speaker 3: ends on the field on their opening drive, Calcaterra, Goddart
- 1:24Speaker 3: and Cam Latu, and they used Cam Latsuo to come
- 1:27Speaker 3: across the line of scrimmage a lot as a lead
- 1:29Speaker 3: blocker in what we call gap scheme runs, which is
- 1:33Speaker 3: involves pulling linemen, hat on hat blocking, not zone blocking
- 1:38Speaker 3: where sometimes you're blocking an area or taking somebody for
- 1:41Speaker 3: a ride, but real hat on hat, guy on guy,
- 1:44Speaker 3: and then you know pulling and trapping with linemen or
- 1:47Speaker 3: with using LAT two to come across the line of scrimmage.
- 1:51Speaker 3: On the seventeen yard Barclay run, Lat two came around
- 1:53Speaker 3: and sealed the edge with an ice wall block and
- 1:56Speaker 3: created that space for Sakwonda and also on that play
- 1:59Speaker 3: lands and pulled from the left his left guard spot
- 2:02Speaker 3: to the outside on the right and sprung helped spring Barkley.
- 2:06Speaker 3: So I know that when you look at their overall
- 2:09Speaker 3: run success, they had their second highest yards per game.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I think it was one hundred and eighty six. Their
- 2:13Speaker 3: average was three point nine, which still isn't very good,
- 2:16Speaker 3: but some of that is skewed by tush push, goal
- 2:20Speaker 3: line run, short yarded runs. I think there were probably
- 2:23Speaker 3: if you took those out, somewhere in the four point
- 2:26Speaker 3: something yards per carry, which is an improvement for this team.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Sadly To's saying, yeah, yeah, well, listen the way they
- 2:33Speaker 1: ran the ball the other day. I thought the one thing, Now,
- 2:35Speaker 1: the game's kind of out of hands, so they're running
- 2:36Speaker 1: more as the game goes on there, but they stuck
- 2:39Speaker 1: with the run early in the game, and I thought
- 2:41Speaker 1: it set up some things. They're under center thirty times,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and it's set up a lot more looks in the
- 2:46Speaker 1: past game, especially underneath. I thought the throw he made
- 2:48Speaker 1: to AJ Brown, you know, it was a play where
- 2:51Speaker 1: he had multiple options on that play.
- 2:53Speaker 4: You know, I don't want to I don't know if
- 2:55Speaker 4: there were.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Creativity is better, but there were some things that you
- 2:58Speaker 1: could do that were set up because they ran the
- 3:01Speaker 1: ball more and just because of their formations seemingly gave
- 3:04Speaker 1: them some better options.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I was thinking about you the whole time, Mike and
- 3:08Speaker 3: your your diatribe, and why don't the Eagles go under
- 3:11Speaker 3: center more? And if I saw the numbers that they
- 3:13Speaker 3: had under center and they didn't do it more, I
- 3:15Speaker 3: would fire that guy, said Mike gil They were clearly
- 3:18Speaker 3: afraid that you were going to own the team and
- 3:20Speaker 3: fire them because they did go under center a lot more.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And hey, it worked, so that's good. I think it
- 3:25Speaker 2: works as much in the passing game.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Well, I mean, it wasn't just me.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Vic Fangio admitted, like, Hey, when I'm defending against a
- 3:32Speaker 1: team and they have guys under center, it makes it,
- 3:34Speaker 1: you know, even slightly more difficult for me to prepare
- 3:37Speaker 1: for them.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yes, I believe, he also said, next said not not significantly,
- 3:41Speaker 3: but it does, yes, exactly.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Yes, Well, I mean even in the moment.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I think if you watch them play the game on
- 3:50Speaker 1: Sunday with it go under some thirty times, there were
- 3:53Speaker 1: things that were much more open for them, you could
- 3:55Speaker 1: see that there were Now is it the Raiders?
- 3:57Speaker 4: I don't know. I mean the Raiders have something to
- 3:59Speaker 4: do with that.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I'm sure were Well the answer because I've been asked
- 4:02Speaker 3: that a couple of times. The only answer I can
- 4:05Speaker 3: give you, And I thought we talked about this last week,
- 4:07Speaker 3: is that if you go up and down the Raiders schedule,
- 4:09Speaker 3: yes they're bad.
- 4:10Speaker 2: There they were two and eleven going into the game.
- 4:13Speaker 2: They're three and eleven.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Now I think they probably you could argue that they
- 4:17Speaker 3: have the worst fifty three in all football.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how they beat the Patriots
- 4:21Speaker 2: in the season open. That must have just been a shock.
- 4:24Speaker 3: But they clearly only have two players that you even
- 4:27Speaker 3: think are all at any good in Brock Bowers and
- 4:31Speaker 3: Max Crosby. But if you go up and down the
- 4:33Speaker 3: ross their schedule, Mike, they've got They played the Broncos twice.
- 4:37Speaker 3: They lost ten to seven and twenty four to seventeen.
- 4:40Speaker 3: So that's two one possession games that they lost to
- 4:43Speaker 3: that maybe the best team in the AFC.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Or the NFL. By They lost thirty one, I'm sorry,
- 4:48Speaker 2: thirty to twenty nine to the.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Jaguars, who are leading the AFC South and in the
- 4:53Speaker 3: three seed right now.
- 4:54Speaker 2: So that was a one point game. They lost by
- 4:56Speaker 2: one point to the Chicago Bears. So the point I'm.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Making is, yeah, you know, the Raiders get off the
- 5:01Speaker 3: bus for the most part.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Well, the point you're making too, the point that you're making,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and I don't know what words in your mouth is,
- 5:07Speaker 1: but there are teams that are playoff teams. Jacksonville and
- 5:10Speaker 1: Chicago both in play for the number one seed, and
- 5:12Speaker 1: they went tooth and nail. So just to say, well,
- 5:14Speaker 1: it's the Raiders so I can't buy it, do you
- 5:16Speaker 1: say that for Chicago and Jacksonville who had a tough
- 5:19Speaker 1: time getting paid, or Denver who had a tough time
- 5:21Speaker 1: putting them away?
- 5:23Speaker 3: Yeah, now Denver you could say it's an AC rivalry,
- 5:25Speaker 3: So you can understand that a little bit. But that's why, Yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 3: we use those other games as good contact.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Now. I know they lost the Chargers a couple of
- 5:32Speaker 2: weeks ago.
- 5:33Speaker 3: They lost thirty one to fourteen, so that's kind of
- 5:36Speaker 3: a blowout. But that game was seven to nothing at
- 5:38Speaker 3: the half, so it wasn't like it was a cake
- 5:42Speaker 3: roll from the start.
- 5:43Speaker 2: For the Chargers. So, like I said, they get off
- 5:45Speaker 2: the bus, they try.
- 5:46Speaker 3: To play, you you know, I mean, they're not just
- 5:48Speaker 3: out there going through the motions. They're bad, but they
- 5:51Speaker 3: try hard. Pete Carroll has them at least, you know,
- 5:54Speaker 3: giving effort. I thought Kenny Pickett was giving effort. He
- 5:56Speaker 3: was getting killed left and right. You know, the backs crossed.
- 6:00Speaker 2: It was the effort. He had a sack. He got
- 6:02Speaker 2: mad at Devin White for I guess misplaying a gap.
- 6:05Speaker 3: So it's so my point is the Eagles didn't play
- 6:08Speaker 3: a team that just said gay, kick the crap out.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I mean they they earned it that ass kicking.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Oh listen.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah, anytime in the NFL you win thirty one nothing
- 6:18Speaker 1: and you dominate somebody, you know that that's something that
- 6:21Speaker 1: you should definitely take account for, like because if you
- 6:23Speaker 1: don't dominate them, then it's well, you only beat that
- 6:26Speaker 1: team so and so by you know whatever. The Eagles
- 6:29Speaker 1: dominated that team and they did it by no penalties
- 6:33Speaker 1: three I mean a low penalty game, and they executed.
- 6:38Speaker 1: They they had plays and they made plays. So can
- 6:41Speaker 1: they build it right? And no turnovers? So can they
- 6:44Speaker 1: build off of that? You know, that's the kind of
- 6:46Speaker 1: game they need. A low pass game from Hurts. You know,
- 6:50Speaker 1: obviously he came out in the third quarter. If he's
- 6:52Speaker 1: in the twenty two to twenty five pass range, and
- 6:55Speaker 1: then he added a little bit with his legs. They
- 6:58Speaker 1: ran the ball. They had a purpose in their game.
- 7:00Speaker 1: The other day, it seemed like and their defense was
- 7:03Speaker 1: just outstanding.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Defense was really good. They did some different things up
- 7:08Speaker 2: front well, and they've been doing it a little.
- 7:09Speaker 3: More, but they did in this game too, where they're
- 7:12Speaker 3: really stunting a lot and double stunting, you know, which
- 7:15Speaker 3: is not something you frequently see from the Eagles or
- 7:18Speaker 3: other teams.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And you know, you got to pick your spots when
- 7:20Speaker 2: you want.
- 7:21Speaker 3: To have have that have two linemen criss crossing each
- 7:24Speaker 3: other on both sides of.
- 7:26Speaker 2: The line, because you can leave yourself vulnerable.
- 7:28Speaker 3: But they they have the athleticism to do that now
- 7:30Speaker 3: with Jaylen Phillips who has played inside in nickel and
- 7:33Speaker 3: you know, Brandon Graham has played inside in nickel the
- 7:36Speaker 3: Super Bowl year. So now that they've got guys who
- 7:38Speaker 3: can do it and have played inside and outside, they're
- 7:41Speaker 3: using that versatility more and that was effective for them too.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Well, I want to get your thoughts on Graham and
- 7:47Speaker 1: kind of give us maybe a big picture thing about him.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Do you see him primarily in that role now as
- 7:54Speaker 1: a inside pass rush defensive tackle, Well.
- 7:58Speaker 3: It depends when Jalen Carter comes back. He's clearly serving
- 8:01Speaker 3: that role because Jaalen Carter has been out now I
- 8:06Speaker 3: had an interesting chat I wrote it on Philly Voice
- 8:08Speaker 3: with a sports physician who was explaining to me about
- 8:13Speaker 3: the PRP injections.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And I spoke to a couple actually, and there's some real.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Doubt in the medical community about the efficacy of PRP
- 8:25Speaker 3: injections because there's no as I was told, there's no
- 8:28Speaker 3: proven data to suggest that these work better or these
- 8:33Speaker 3: relieve enough pain.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And take away the discomfort.
- 8:36Speaker 3: So it will be interesting to see if Jalen Carter
- 8:39Speaker 3: is any more effective when he gets back. I mean,
- 8:41Speaker 3: some of it could just be it took two weeks
- 8:43Speaker 3: off of the contact and now you might feel a
- 8:46Speaker 3: little bit better.
- 8:46Speaker 2: But whenever he has isn't going away.
- 8:48Speaker 3: It's not a cure, right, It's it's not like surgery
- 8:51Speaker 3: when you have these PRP injections.
- 8:52Speaker 2: It's just it's just trying.
- 8:54Speaker 3: To heal the area a little bit with the regenerated
- 8:56Speaker 3: blood platelets. So all that is for me to say,
- 9:00Speaker 3: if John Carter comes back but he's laboring, he's not
- 9:03Speaker 3: as effective, maybe you will see Brandon Graham in there
- 9:07Speaker 3: at times an interior rusher.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I doubt it, but it's possible a lot to see.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And then I want to kind of get you know,
- 9:12Speaker 1: your thoughts on the Eagles pass rush moving forward here,
- 9:15Speaker 1: because you know, I felt like the last couple years,
- 9:16Speaker 1: we're like, Dad, do they have enough pass rush? And
- 9:18Speaker 1: then late in the year they really started to come
- 9:21Speaker 1: on with younger guys. Do you see that happening again
- 9:24Speaker 1: this year? Jlyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, they obviously have Phillips.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I mean, do you look at this team now, You're
- 9:29Speaker 1: getting ready for the playoff run, and then during the
- 9:31Speaker 1: playoffs last year is when those the Hunts and the
- 9:34Speaker 1: Smiths really just took off.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Do we see that happening again this year?
- 9:39Speaker 2: That's tough for me.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I mean, we are only this goes back to how
- 9:44Speaker 3: we always talk about people want to remember what they
- 9:46Speaker 3: saw last Right, We're only two games removed from the
- 9:51Speaker 3: Eagles not getting a whole lot of pressure against the
- 9:53Speaker 3: Bears and then not getting a whole lot of pressure
- 9:55Speaker 3: the week before against the Cowboys.
- 9:57Speaker 2: And not much has changed.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I mean, they had Jalalen Phillips there, they had Brandon
- 10:00Speaker 3: Graham for those games, and if we're being very honest,
- 10:03Speaker 3: both the Chargers and the Raiders were starting multiple as
- 10:07Speaker 3: in like three or four backups on their offensive line.
- 10:11Speaker 3: So I'd like to see this Saturday against the Commanders,
- 10:15Speaker 3: who may not be a great team, but they have
- 10:16Speaker 3: a healthy and good offensive line, and then like to
- 10:19Speaker 3: see them against the Bills to really know if this
- 10:22Speaker 3: pass rush is back.
- 10:24Speaker 2: To being an elite one.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Sure it looks like that over two weeks, but they're
- 10:29Speaker 3: really facing a bunch of backups.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Fair, let's go back to the offensive side of the
- 10:33Speaker 1: ball real fast. I want to get your take on
- 10:35Speaker 1: the offensive line.
- 10:36Speaker 4: They ran the ball better, they.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Threw the ball better, they had good protection, but is
- 10:39Speaker 1: the offensive line struggling coming around? I heard I think
- 10:45Speaker 1: was Ruben Frank asked a question today about the pass protection,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and you know they haven't given up as many sacks recently.
- 10:50Speaker 1: What do we make of where their offensive line is
- 10:52Speaker 1: because they should get Lane Johnson back, maybe even as
- 10:55Speaker 1: soon as this week.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's been better.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I thought that play that I mentioned where Dickerson pulled
- 11:03Speaker 3: from the left guard spot out to the right side
- 11:05Speaker 3: to cover up who was a Jeremy Chin maybe showed
- 11:10Speaker 3: that despite the calf injury, he was moving pretty well.
- 11:13Speaker 2: So that was a good sign.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I think Jurgen's still a guy who and again they
- 11:19Speaker 3: didn't have a whole lot of dropbacks against the Raiders
- 11:21Speaker 3: at twenty at most, so it's not like we have
- 11:23Speaker 3: a really large sample size. But I think he was okay,
- 11:27Speaker 3: but he's not looking like the guy who he was
- 11:30Speaker 3: the year before coming off that surgery now.
- 11:32Speaker 2: So I think the big thing was that I think
- 11:36Speaker 2: Tyler Steam was the only guy who had a penalty.
- 11:38Speaker 3: You know, my Lota had a nice block on the
- 11:40Speaker 3: god Her touchdown, But again, like you definitely have to
- 11:43Speaker 3: weigh that against who they were playing, and you know,
- 11:45Speaker 3: that's why that's why I think the next two weeks
- 11:47Speaker 3: are critical, Mike.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I really think that by the end of that Bills.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Game, we'll we'll know if the Eagles are the same
- 11:54Speaker 3: old Eagles team from this year that just doesn't have
- 11:57Speaker 3: enough to really be a super Bowl team, or if
- 12:00Speaker 3: some of these changes on offense and concepts and this
- 12:03Speaker 3: growing defense has really come together at the right time
- 12:07Speaker 3: and now they're getting going into the playoff.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I were talking with Jeff Mosher Football four Inside the
- 12:11Speaker 1: Birds podcast Philly Voice dot com, where he also writes
- 12:14Speaker 1: about the Eagles, and you know you wrote today about
- 12:17Speaker 1: the are they getting back to super Bowl caliber on
- 12:19Speaker 1: this defense. I mean, if you watch that game the
- 12:20Speaker 1: other day, seventy five yards, we're wondering what are some
- 12:23Speaker 1: of the things that they can kind of take from
- 12:26Speaker 1: what they did in that game and keep, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: because this is when their defense last year started to
- 12:30Speaker 1: become like, WHOA, this defense is at a different level
- 12:33Speaker 1: and you had it from virtually all three levels of
- 12:37Speaker 1: the field.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Is it feeling the same there?
- 12:39Speaker 1: Like that second corner spot's been a question, the safety
- 12:45Speaker 1: spot is that secured the linebackers?
- 12:48Speaker 4: You got Dan in there.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Now it seems like Campbell's kind of falling out of
- 12:51Speaker 1: the rotation. Do you have enough upfront? Do we look
- 12:54Speaker 1: at a super Bowl level defense? Because that's essentially what
- 12:57Speaker 1: carried them to the Super Bowl win win last last year.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Well, I think when I think of last year's defense,
- 13:03Speaker 3: the biggest thing I think of, especially at the end
- 13:06Speaker 3: of the year, is the amount of takeaways they were
- 13:08Speaker 3: able to secure, which really helped them as the offense
- 13:11Speaker 3: kind of was you know, the rushing offense was great,
- 13:14Speaker 3: the overall offense was just okay. And if you look
- 13:17Speaker 3: at the Eagles this year, they didn't have a ton
- 13:20Speaker 3: of takeaways, and they did.
- 13:22Speaker 2: They start off the.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Season hot, they had like five in the first four weeks,
- 13:24Speaker 3: but then they wound up going through some spells when
- 13:27Speaker 3: they had none against Denver, none against the Giants in
- 13:29Speaker 3: that loss, they didn't have any in the win against
- 13:32Speaker 3: the Giants, they didn't have had any against Green Bay.
- 13:35Speaker 2: They won against the Lions.
- 13:36Speaker 3: But over the last few weeks, you know, you saw
- 13:39Speaker 3: one against the Chargers, three against I'm sorry, three against
- 13:41Speaker 3: the Chargers, one against the Raiders. They have one against
- 13:44Speaker 3: the Bears, two against the Cowboys. So that's seven in
- 13:49Speaker 3: the last four games. That's a pretty good spot. And
- 13:52Speaker 3: if you take it a step further, it's even more
- 13:54Speaker 3: against Green Bay and Detroit. So to the defense that's
- 13:57Speaker 3: really starting to come there, hit the quarterback, confuse back.
- 14:01Speaker 3: So if that's who they're going to be over the
- 14:04Speaker 3: next two weeks especially, then you really like their chances.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I just the one thing that I think would hurt.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Them is if the offense did not continue to evolve
- 14:15Speaker 3: with the defense, because as you saw against Chicago and
- 14:17Speaker 3: you saw against the Chargers, really when the defense is
- 14:22Speaker 3: on the field too much, it's no good.
- 14:24Speaker 2: You know, like you can't ask them to win.
- 14:27Speaker 3: You can't ask them to be the entire game, and
- 14:29Speaker 3: that's what they had to be against the Chargers.
- 14:32Speaker 2: And at the end of the game he saw Herbert
- 14:34Speaker 2: make some plays there.
- 14:35Speaker 3: And you know, even though they got ran on by
- 14:38Speaker 3: the Bears, that was a pretty close game. But eventually
- 14:40Speaker 3: they give up that that touchdown to Comet, right, that
- 14:43Speaker 3: was kind of.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Like the nail in the coffin. They can't they can't
- 14:45Speaker 2: ask them to make You can't ask.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Them to win the game in every single facet and
- 14:51Speaker 3: make up for an offense that's not going to score.
- 14:53Speaker 2: The offense has to score at least twenty points.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, the offense has to score at
- 14:58Speaker 1: least twenty points. But if you see this offense in
- 15:01Speaker 1: the role that it played on Sunday, they should be
- 15:03Speaker 1: able to do that. That offense that we saw, you know,
- 15:06Speaker 1: run the ball, put the quarterback, give him a little
- 15:09Speaker 1: bit more in the run game. We'll see what that
- 15:11Speaker 1: ankle looks like if he you know, we don't have
- 15:13Speaker 1: the injury report out yet, but I know Nick was
- 15:15Speaker 1: asked about him today and he didn't give you much.
- 15:18Speaker 1: He basically said, oh, yeah, the report will be coming
- 15:20Speaker 1: out soon you can see that. I don't see the
- 15:22Speaker 1: report out yet, but that'll be interesting to see if
- 15:24Speaker 1: he is on that because it seems that right around
- 15:26Speaker 1: this time of the year the last couple of seasons,
- 15:29Speaker 1: he has had something that has forced him to miss
- 15:31Speaker 1: some games late in the year. So that's one of
- 15:34Speaker 1: the reasons why that I want to run him all
- 15:35Speaker 1: that much. Yet twenty four nothing he gets hurt on
- 15:37Speaker 1: that run, Yeah.
- 15:40Speaker 3: That would not be good. Injury is never good, and
- 15:43Speaker 3: they've hurt this team, I guess. To your point though,
- 15:45Speaker 3: on offense, you said, like this is how they should
- 15:48Speaker 3: be against the Raiders, but if you look at their
- 15:50Speaker 3: offensive output against teams that are probably going to be
- 15:54Speaker 3: in the playoffs, it's not good. You know, nineteen against
- 15:56Speaker 3: the Chargers, fifteen against the Bears. I know they beat
- 16:01Speaker 3: the Lions and Packers, but they scored ten points against
- 16:04Speaker 3: the Packers and sixteen against the Lions.
- 16:06Speaker 2: That was good enough to win those games.
- 16:08Speaker 3: But again, in the playoffs, when you gotta win three,
- 16:10Speaker 3: potentially four games, I just don't think you.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Can win sixteen, nine and ten seven four times.
- 16:16Speaker 3: So you can do it maybe once and get away
- 16:18Speaker 3: with it, but no offense has the offense has to
- 16:21Speaker 3: score points against playoff caliber teams.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Absolutely, And the other thing is too, You're playing the
- 16:27Speaker 1: Raiders with Kenny Pickett and not a very good offense
- 16:29Speaker 1: that you've absolutely dominated.
- 16:31Speaker 4: I get it.
- 16:32Speaker 1: We talk about this yesterday, the fact you give up
- 16:33Speaker 1: seventy five points against it. There are a lot lesser
- 16:36Speaker 1: quarterbacks in this league that have generated more than seventy
- 16:39Speaker 1: five yards. Kenny Pickett is not a very good quarterback,
- 16:42Speaker 1: but even to hold any team to seventy five yards
- 16:45Speaker 1: is it's a dominating performance.
- 16:48Speaker 3: So there are eleven plays this year in the NFL
- 16:52Speaker 3: where one play has been seventy five or more yards.
- 16:55Speaker 3: So and I think no, no, maybe in eight teams,
- 16:59Speaker 3: because Jonathan Taylor has at least three. So Jonathan Taylor
- 17:01Speaker 3: has three plays of more yards than the Raiders had
- 17:05Speaker 3: against the Eagles on Sunday.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Before I said to put it in perspective the game
- 17:08Speaker 1: in the NFC Championship a couple of years ago where
- 17:10Speaker 1: the forty nine ers had a quarterback that wasn't throwing.
- 17:14Speaker 1: They had more than seventy five yards in that game.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You know what they did defensively the other day was outrageous.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And you know, the question for the Eagles is you know,
- 17:25Speaker 1: because there's gonna be that game where your defense just
- 17:27Speaker 1: doesn't play at that level.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It always happens where okay, they give up twenty one.
- 17:31Speaker 1: We saw it in the Denver game where late in
- 17:33Speaker 1: the game you have a lead and they give up
- 17:35Speaker 1: two late scores in that game. At this point, by
- 17:39Speaker 1: the way, as we're as I'm thinking about that Denver game,
- 17:41Speaker 1: because everybody seems to have a loss this year that's
- 17:45Speaker 1: been a bad loss. The Eagles lost to the Giants,
- 17:47Speaker 1: the Rams lost to Carolina. You know, everybody has that
- 17:50Speaker 1: one loss. The Patriots lost to the Raiders. Where that
- 17:53Speaker 1: bad losses. You can't afford to have that.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Now, No, that's usually the early season clunker. You can't
- 17:59Speaker 3: can't have one now at this point, you're.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Right right, and then you play the rate the.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Game right now it's like seeding or playoff or even
- 18:07Speaker 3: the division seems to be on the line.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Well, having to play Washington twice is you're in that
- 18:11Speaker 1: tricky spot where it's like, eh, they're done, what are
- 18:15Speaker 1: they really playing for? And you feel like I don't
- 18:18Speaker 1: like playing the same team at every as close as
- 18:22Speaker 1: they're playing Washington here.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't either, but it seems to be the
- 18:25Speaker 2: thing in the league.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Like the Panthers are gonna play the Buccaneers two times
- 18:29Speaker 3: over the next three weeks. The Packers are playing the
- 18:32Speaker 3: Bears again this week. That's the second time in the
- 18:34Speaker 3: last three weeks. So, I mean, it sort of makes
- 18:37Speaker 3: for good late season drama, but I also don't care for.
- 18:40Speaker 4: It all right.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher from the Inside the Birds podcast, which you
- 18:44Speaker 1: can get on all podcasting platforms, and of course you
- 18:47Speaker 1: could read more from him over at Phillyvoice dot com
- 18:50Speaker 1: a lot of great coverage on this Eagles run towards
- 18:53Speaker 1: the playoffs. Right now, they are the three seed, and
- 18:55Speaker 1: their best pass seems to be a three seed, right.
- 18:57Speaker 1: It doesn't seem they have a very good chance. They
- 18:59Speaker 1: don't very good chance to get the one seed at all,
- 19:02Speaker 1: and a very minimal chance to get that two seed.
- 19:05Speaker 2: That's not well, you know, like that's a good question.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I mean, I wouldn't. It's it's really not that far away,
- 19:11Speaker 2: all right.
- 19:12Speaker 3: So the Rams are the one seed, right, and they are,
- 19:14Speaker 3: but they have to play Seattle on Thursday night, and
- 19:18Speaker 3: they have to do it without Davonte Adams. So Seattle
- 19:21Speaker 3: almost won that game the first time. So if the
- 19:23Speaker 3: Rams don't win, they're eleven and four. The Eagles win
- 19:26Speaker 3: their ten and five, so now you're one game behind.
- 19:29Speaker 2: The Bears have to play the Packers.
- 19:30Speaker 3: If the Packers win the game, they get to ten
- 19:35Speaker 3: four and one, so that would be better than ten
- 19:37Speaker 3: and five, But then it would come down to the season,
- 19:40Speaker 3: you know, the next two week.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I mean it's not I wouldn't quite say.
- 19:43Speaker 4: It's like, well, we were looking at this year impossible.
- 19:46Speaker 1: We were looking at this yesterday. And let me see
- 19:48Speaker 1: if I could bring this up onto the screen so
- 19:50Speaker 1: that you could see it as well. But I don't know,
- 19:54Speaker 1: can I do that, Torell if I get in the background,
- 19:57Speaker 1: put that in the screen. But it looks like it's
- 19:59Speaker 1: a pretty long shot for them to get the number
- 20:02Speaker 1: one seed. They need two losses by the Rams, three
- 20:05Speaker 1: losses by Seattle, two losses by San Francisco.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Oh I forgot about.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, because if Seattle beats the Rams, they
- 20:13Speaker 3: I think they leap frog into the number one seed.
- 20:16Speaker 1: So there's the scenarios. I don't know if you can,
- 20:18Speaker 1: if you can try to make it a little bit
- 20:20Speaker 1: bigger so that you can see it a little bit better.
- 20:22Speaker 1: But it is a pretty long shot that you're going
- 20:26Speaker 1: to be able to Now I made it too big,
- 20:29Speaker 1: but it's gonna be a pretty.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Long Seattle even if so, if Seattle beats the rams'.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Your there's your one seed.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Stuff gotcha. If Seattle beats the Rams, though.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Right, the Rams would then have to lose to either
- 20:41Speaker 1: Atlanta or Arizona.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Yeah, which is probably the more improbable one. But Seattle's
- 20:46Speaker 3: schedule is not easy. They have to play the Panthers
- 20:48Speaker 3: on the road and the forty nine ers on the road,
- 20:51Speaker 3: so and who knows what the Rams not having DeVante,
- 20:55Speaker 3: maybe they get picked off in against Seattle and.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Then another team. It's not completely out of the realm.
- 21:01Speaker 3: And then green Bay has a pretty you know, they've
- 21:03Speaker 3: got the Bears coming up. But then even after the Bears,
- 21:06Speaker 3: they have the Ravens and then the Viking. So again,
- 21:09Speaker 3: I mean, it's not probable, but not impossible. I think
- 21:13Speaker 3: the question you would want to ask though, my gig.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Well, well, by the way, it's just to clinch the
- 21:17Speaker 1: one seed in the NFC, all five of the things
- 21:21Speaker 1: have to happen. Yeah, I guess La has to lose twice,
- 21:25Speaker 1: Seattle has to lose twice, San Francisco has to lose twice,
- 21:28Speaker 1: Chicago has to lose twice, and Green Bay has to
- 21:31Speaker 1: lose one more time.
- 21:33Speaker 2: That's a good point. So let's say that they're not
- 21:35Speaker 2: going to do that, right.
- 21:36Speaker 3: I think sitting in the third seed, which would match
- 21:38Speaker 3: you up against the Niners, succeed right now is almost
- 21:42Speaker 3: better than being the two seed and having going to
- 21:45Speaker 3: go up against right now Green Bay right or at
- 21:48Speaker 3: worst it could be Chicago, which has already beaten you.
- 21:51Speaker 3: If Green Bay leaf from Chicago, Chicago goes to the
- 21:53Speaker 3: seventh seed, then all of a sudden, you're looking at that.
- 21:55Speaker 2: So, I mean, this forty nine Ers team is good,
- 21:58Speaker 2: but they've played a cake cake sched well, they got
- 22:00Speaker 2: injury all over.
- 22:01Speaker 1: They are a wild card because they have been banged
- 22:03Speaker 1: up a lot and yet they keep winning and nobody's
- 22:06Speaker 1: really talking about them. They haven't had a lot of
- 22:08Speaker 1: national primetime games, so people haven't really seen on them
- 22:11Speaker 1: that much. But yeah, the Eagles, by the way to
- 22:14Speaker 1: clinch at least the number two seed in the NFC.
- 22:20Speaker 1: The Rams, Seattle, and San Francisco all have to lose
- 22:25Speaker 1: two times, or Chicago has to lose twice and Green
- 22:30Speaker 1: Bay has to lose once. Now the green Bay losing
- 22:32Speaker 1: once in the Chicago losing twice. Chicago plays Green Bay
- 22:36Speaker 1: at San Francisco and Detroit, so that's a possibility. So
- 22:39Speaker 1: the two seed there is a little sliver there.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but I again, I wouldn't want it. I wouldn't
- 22:45Speaker 2: want to play an NFC nor team as the two seed.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I would rather stay in the three and play the
- 22:50Speaker 3: forty nine ers, assuming that they stay in the sixth seed.
- 22:52Speaker 3: If anything, the worst thing that could happen was have
- 22:55Speaker 3: a little slide here and drop into the fourth seed,
- 22:58Speaker 3: because the number five seed is most like.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Going to be either the Rams or the Seahawks, and
- 23:02Speaker 2: that's not what you want.
- 23:03Speaker 1: All right, Jeff Boucher from the Inside of the Birds podcast,
- 23:07Speaker 1: and of course we've got you check out our stuff
