Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: G105, it's the Erica Show. So excited about this performance
- 0:04Speaker 1: this weekend.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Mrs.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Doubtfire at DPAC happening October 30th through November 1st. A
- 0:09Speaker 1: great weekend. Go see a show, grab some dinner. And
- 0:11Speaker 1: we've got Kennedy B. Jackson who plays Wanda, the social worker.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello there, Kennedy.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So you play the social worker. Obviously, I was a
- 0:21Speaker 1: huge fan of Mrs. Doubtfire growing up. Loved the film.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And you play the social worker, Wanda, which your grandma
- 0:28Speaker 1: was a social worker as well. And so this is
- 0:30Speaker 1: a very near and dear to your heart role.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yes, it really is. She did social work. She was
- 0:36Speaker 2: a social worker. For over 40 years. So I got
- 0:39Speaker 2: to see firsthand how tedious the job is.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:43Speaker 2: And how emotionally taxing it can be. And just being
- 0:48Speaker 2: able to see how she remained in her joy and
- 0:52Speaker 2: life through it all. So putting that into this comedic
- 0:56Speaker 2: show has been very fun.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Which you're so right about that. To keep the joy,
- 1:00Speaker 1: even when you have such hard days like that, that
- 1:02Speaker 1: was a really big accomplishment for her to achieve that.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And I'm sure it helped you channel this role, too.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yes, it did.
- 1:09Speaker 1: It did. You're from South Carolina, so Carolina's representing. When
- 1:13Speaker 1: did you know, like, this is your journey? Because you
- 1:16Speaker 1: started at a young age.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yes, I did. I started at South Carolina Governor's School
- 1:21Speaker 2: of Arts and Humanities. That's where I really decided, made
- 1:25Speaker 2: the decision to commit to acting and go for it
- 1:30Speaker 2: as a career. I had so many people that I
- 1:33Speaker 2: met along the way, so many opportunities that helped me
- 1:36Speaker 2: grow as an artist. And I'm just so grateful for
- 1:40Speaker 2: how it's just sticking with me now on the tour.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Where is your home base when you're not touring?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Back at home in South Carolina, in Trenton, South Carolina.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Oh, okay. So you do come back to the Carolinas.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Are you a Go Panthers fan?
- 1:53Speaker 2: I'm a Gamecocks fan. Okay. All right.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Very cool. And then is there a favorite part of
- 2:00Speaker 1: your show? I know that I'm so excited to see
- 2:03Speaker 1: it again. It's October 30th through November 1st. You can
- 2:05Speaker 1: get tickets now starting at 50 bucks. DeepakNC.com. Is there
- 2:08Speaker 1: a part of the show that no matter how many
- 2:10Speaker 1: times you do it, it always stands out to you?
- 2:13Speaker 2: We call it the far scene, but everyone knows it
- 2:16Speaker 2: as the infamous pie scene where, uh, Daniel Hillard, uh,
- 2:21Speaker 2: you know, puts the pie on his face to, uh,
- 2:25Speaker 2: You know, not show his face while in Doubtfire. Right.
- 2:30Speaker 2: That is my favorite scene because I'm having to react
- 2:33Speaker 2: to it all.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Now, improv wise, I know that obviously you guys just
- 2:38Speaker 1: bounce off of each other. But is there a time
- 2:39Speaker 1: when somebody forgets the lines and then how do you
- 2:41Speaker 1: pivot in those situations?
- 2:44Speaker 2: I'm learning a lot about improv on this show. And
- 2:48Speaker 2: I'm glad about it with Craig Allen Smith. playing Doubtfire
- 2:53Speaker 2: he brings so many new voices and actions and things
- 2:58Speaker 2: that just surprise me and with my character she's very
- 3:02Speaker 2: stoic very you know to the point and so I
- 3:05Speaker 2: have to be serious and I can't laugh when I
- 3:07Speaker 2: want to so whenever he's doing his bit it just
- 3:12Speaker 2: It makes me want to crack, but I can't.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Which, you know what's the best? It's like news anchors
- 3:17Speaker 1: when you see them laugh and they're not supposed to.
- 3:19Speaker 1: That's also so endearing for the audience to see when
- 3:22Speaker 1: you actually break character, I'm sure. Yes.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Which makes them laugh even more. Oh, yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's a bit. I know that the play doesn't do
- 3:33Speaker 1: a tribute for Robin Williams, but we all know Robin Williams,
- 3:36Speaker 1: his role in Mrs. Doubtfire, which this is based on.
- 3:39Speaker 1: When I lived in New York City, I worked at
- 3:40Speaker 1: Radio City, and he would go undercover and ride around
- 3:44Speaker 1: dressed as a homeless man, riding his bike so he
- 3:46Speaker 1: can enjoy the city without people recognizing him. Really cool
- 3:50Speaker 1: to witness that in real life.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. Yeah. I love that. The show overall,
- 3:56Speaker 2: because there are some parts that are very similar, to
- 3:59Speaker 2: the movie, but there are some new additions in the
- 4:02Speaker 2: show that I think will surprise the audience. But overall,
- 4:06Speaker 2: I just think and I hope that we are doing
- 4:08Speaker 2: Robin Williams justice.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Is there anything you want to say to our audience
- 4:12Speaker 1: that maybe is on the fence? Why do we need
- 4:14Speaker 1: to grab tickets today?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Grab tickets because you're going to go on a comedic
- 4:19Speaker 2: rollercoaster ride. Just seeing Daniel Hillard going through all these
- 4:24Speaker 2: comedic links to come together with his children and bring
- 4:29Speaker 2: his family back together. And I think right now the
- 4:33Speaker 2: audience needs to laugh and feel a little. So we
- 4:36Speaker 2: hope that they leave feeling lighter, brighter, and happier.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And there's no excuse either. There's so many great restaurants
- 4:43Speaker 1: around Deepak. Grab your dinner, go to the show. It's
- 4:46Speaker 1: a perfect night. Plus it's Halloween weekend. Got to go
- 4:49Speaker 1: have something fun to do. So really and truly there's
- 4:52Speaker 1: no excuses why you can't go to the show.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Exactly. Exactly. So come out.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Kennedy B. Jackson. Amazing. Where can everybody follow you and
- 5:00Speaker 1: follow your journey?
- 5:01Speaker 2: Follow me on Instagram at I am uniquely Ken and
- 5:07Speaker 2: Kennedy B. Jackson on Facebook.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Thank you so much. What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
- 5:11Speaker 1: I know you said there's a show that week. So
- 5:13Speaker 1: are you going to go have a chance to go
- 5:15Speaker 1: home or you're working through it?
- 5:16Speaker 2: We'll be in Chicago that week of Thanksgiving. And our
- 5:21Speaker 2: previous Natalie, she was one of our Natalie's in the show.
- 5:25Speaker 2: She's no longer on our show right now, but her
- 5:27Speaker 2: and her mother are going to host a Thanksgiving gathering
- 5:30Speaker 2: for us. Oh, that's lovely.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yes. Well, that's wonderful. Happy holidays to you. And thank you.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Can't wait to see you on stage this weekend.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 5:39Speaker 1: See you soon. Grab those tickets, y'all. DeepakNC.com and get
