- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, Luna is here with me. Luna: Hi! I'm ready to learn some more Dutch. What are we doing today? Lucas: So, last time we were at the pharmacy getting bandages. Today, we're going back to the pharmacy, but this time for something a little different: cream. Luna: Oh, like hand cream? Or more like medicine cream? Lucas: Both, actually. The word for cream is 'crème'. It works for hand cream, face cream, even medicinal cream. It keeps the show going and ad-free. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps. But now, let's get back to that cream. So, how do I ask for cream at the pharmacy? Lucas: Great question. The most basic thing you can say is 'Ik heb een crème nodig.' That means 'I need a cream.' Luna: Ik heb een crème nodig. Lucas: Perfect. You can also ask 'Mag ik een crème?' which means 'May I have a cream?' Luna: Mag ik een crème? Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to be extra polite, you say 'Een crème, alstublieft.' That's 'A cream, please.' Luna: Een crème, alstublieft. Lucas: Nice. Now, you're at the pharmacy, you've asked for your cream. The pharmacist might ask you 'Waar doet het pijn?' which means 'Where does it hurt?' Luna: Oh, I remember that from our body parts episodes. 'Waar doet het pijn?' Lucas: Right. And you might answer something like 'Mijn hand doet pijn' or 'Mijn rug doet pijn.' We've practiced those. Luna: Yeah, we have. So let me try the whole scenario. I walk up to the counter and say 'Ik heb een crème nodig.' The pharmacist asks 'Waar doet het pijn?' and I say 'Mijn hand doet pijn.' Then I ask 'Hoeveel kost een crème?' Lucas: That's perfect, Luna. And 'Hoeveel kost een crème?' means 'How much does a cream cost?' Luna: So, let's practice the price question again. 'Hoeveel kost een crème?' Lucas: Good. Now, let's put it all together. Imagine you're at the pharmacy. You say 'Een crème, alstublieft.' The pharmacist says 'Waar doet het pijn?' You say 'Mijn knie doet pijn.' Then you ask 'Hoeveel kost een crème?' Luna: That sounds like a real conversation. Let me try that and then use 'Mag ik een crème?' instead, just to mix it up. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: Mag ik een crème? Waar doet het pijn? Mijn knie doet pijn. Hoeveel kost een crème? Lucas: Excellent, Luna. You're a natural. So today we've got five phrases: 'Ik heb een crème nodig', 'Mag ik een crème', 'Een crème, alstublieft', 'Hoeveel kost een crème', and 'Waar doet het pijn'. Luna: That's a lot to remember, but I think I've got it. Let's go through them one more time slowly. Lucas: Sure. Repeat after me: 'Ik heb een crème nodig.' Luna: Ik heb een crème nodig. Lucas: Mag ik een crème? Luna: Mag ik een crème? Lucas: Een crème, alstublieft. Luna: Een crème, alstublieft. Lucas: Hoeveel kost een crème? Luna: Hoeveel kost een crème? Lucas: Waar doet het pijn? Luna: Waar doet het pijn? Lucas: Perfect. You know, these phrases are really useful. Imagine you have a rash or dry skin, you can just say 'Ik heb een crème nodig' at the pharmacy. Luna: And if they ask where, I'm prepared. 'Mijn arm doet pijn.' But what if I don't know the body part? What if it's my elbow? Lucas: We haven't covered the elbow yet. But you can always just point and say 'Hier doet het pijn' which means 'It hurts here.' But that's a phrase for another episode. Luna: Oh, good trick. So today, let's just focus on these five. I feel confident. Lucas: And that's the goal. So, to wrap up, we've learned how to ask for cream, ask where it hurts, and ask the price. Practice these before we meet again, and you'll be ready for your next trip to the pharmacy. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to all our listeners.
