- 0:01Joe Lumberg, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather,
- 0:04who is joining us now, as he does every time there is some
- 0:06sort of weather event to talk about.
- 0:08What's going on this morning, Joe?
- 0:09How are things? Things are good.
- 0:11We're having fun this morning talking about the, you know,
- 0:14great little town names of New England.
- 0:16Love the love some of the great names because some of my cohorts
- 0:19are there. They didn't grow up in New
- 0:21England, so they don't know these wonderful town names that
- 0:24that I'm so familiar. With there are many.
- 0:26There are many indeed, so as. One of my favorite ones being
- 0:29Weekity Clock Cove in southeast Connecticut.
- 0:32Just they are just to the east of Mystic West of Pauketock.
- 0:35It's a it's a nice little place along US Route One.
- 0:39The more challenging ones tend to be those Native American
- 0:41names that that end up on the map because they are longer,
- 0:45right? There's more syllables usually.
- 0:47But Joe Lumber, I got a question for you.
- 0:50I'm wearing a hoodie this morning.
- 0:51What happened to my summer weather?
- 0:53Where did it go? And am I going to be treated to
- 0:55rain today, too? Is that the?
- 0:57The summer of 2026 is now in our rearview mirror.
- 1:00It's over with, we're back to spring, and it's here to stay
- 1:02for a while. OK, that's not funny.
- 1:05Tell me, tell me what's serious. Yeah.
- 1:07For the whole summer though, right?
- 1:09Well, for the foreseeable future, we're in a pattern right
- 1:12now where upper level features are going to drop down from the
- 1:15north, northwest, and every time they do, they're going to bring
- 1:18with us some rounds of chilly air.
- 1:20One of them's coming through today, and it's brought the
- 1:22change from yesterday's 84° warmth, the temperature today,
- 1:25some 20° cooler across the area, at least 15° cooler.
- 1:29And there'll be a couple of showers accompanying this change
- 1:32and maybe even a rumble of Thunder that goes away only to
- 1:34be followed by another one tomorrow night and into
- 1:36Saturday. And that one's going to be much
- 1:38more vicious. There'll be some rain with that.
- 1:41It's going to feel like a February or early March day
- 1:44around here on Saturday as the rain moves away, but it'll be
- 1:47Indy and Chile with temperatures in the low 50s.
- 1:49That doesn't exactly speak summer to me.
- 1:53No, not nor to me. So you think this is going to
- 1:55persist for some time? This is going to be something
- 1:58that we're dealing with for a while.
- 2:00Is this this not summer weather? I do, you know, I just don't see
- 2:04anything to get us out of it in the short term.
- 2:07I think we do rebound on Sunday, but then there's another upper
- 2:10level feature that will drop in from the north and West on
- 2:13Monday and that's going to promote more clouds and probably
- 2:16some showers that'll hang around at a Tuesday.
- 2:18Then that goes away. You get a little bit of warming
- 2:20for the second-half of next week.
- 2:22That looks like another front comes through late next week or
- 2:24the start of next weekend. You get a couple of days of cool
- 2:27weather, tries to warm up, then yet another front comes through,
- 2:30probably middle latter part of the following week, followed by
- 2:33some more cool weather. So it's a pattern that just
- 2:36doesn't show any sign of ending anytime soon.
- 2:38So days of warmth where we can get to 80 or better are going to
- 2:41be very, very few and far between for at least the next
- 2:44two or three weeks. I was going to say that's going
- 2:46to be, you know eating into half a June there.
- 2:48So if you know that much of our June is going to be kind of
- 2:52moderate temperatures, that's an interesting summer to say the
- 2:56least. You didn't like my joke, but I
- 2:57wasn't joking. I've been totally serious about
- 2:59it. Summers.
- 3:00Summers held in a bands for a while right now.
- 3:02Well, maybe by the time you get to July, it'll be 110° and be
- 3:06insufferable. I don't know, pause.
- 3:08Would you? I mean, I think not.
- 3:10I've asked you about what you thought the sort of longer term,
- 3:13you know, forecasts were for the summer, like is it going to be a
- 3:16hot 1? Is it going to be a dry one?
- 3:18Is it, you know, what's it going to be like?
- 3:19Do you have any sort? Of sense is going to be packed
- 3:21into the back end of summer. I think later July and August,
- 3:24that's if you're going to see the, you know, the days where
- 3:26it's 85 to 90 in the high humidity, it's going to be then
- 3:30it's not going to be the front half by and large.
- 3:31I mean, you'll get, you'll get a day or two here and there, but
- 3:34persistency that's going to be lacking for the first part of
- 3:36the summer season. And is it going to continue to
- 3:39be, you know, intermittently raining?
- 3:42I mean, it hasn't been too bad, honestly.
- 3:44It's it's rained enough to keep the grass growing and to keep
- 3:47things, you know, actually green.
- 3:49But it hasn't been pouring and soaking too much, certainly not
- 3:52like last year. Is that going to continue?
- 3:54I think so. I think there'll be a tendency
- 3:56for to be a little bit drier going forward with less than the
- 4:00in terms of the intensity of rainfall once we get past the
- 4:02system that rolls through here Friday night, early Saturday,
- 4:04which by the way will produce some snow up in the mountains.
- 4:07So I I forgot to mention that. Oh, isn't that lovely?
- 4:10Well, meteorologist Joe Lumberg, nice talking to you as always.
- 4:13I love when you can deliver such good news to us on a Thursday
- 4:17morning. So appreciate you being here.
- 4:19And we will talk again very soon, Sir.
- 4:21Take care and enjoy the weather. It's the only weather you got.
- 4:24I'll try.
