- 0:00Speaker 1: Getting ready for the Eagles and the Chargers are Marion Hampton.
- 0:05Speaker 1: By the way, we'll play for the Chargers knight, first
- 0:08Speaker 1: time since he'll play since Week five. Justin Herbert expected
- 0:12Speaker 1: to play seven days after a surgery to his left hand.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And we'll take a look at some of the keys
- 0:20Speaker 1: to an Eagles win over this Chargers team. We just
- 0:22Speaker 1: talked to lorenzo'neil, the former Charger fullback, and you know,
- 0:27Speaker 1: he's feeling pretty good about where this Charger team is.
- 0:29Speaker 1: He likes where their defense is. They've play a lot
- 0:32Speaker 1: of zone defense last week, they played a lot of
- 0:35Speaker 1: man demand against the Chargers. He likes their run game
- 0:38Speaker 1: right now. And Adam, you look at the Eagles run game,
- 0:42Speaker 1: their offense. Let's take a look at them and their
- 0:44Speaker 1: role in this victory tonight potentially against the Chargers. What
- 0:48Speaker 1: does their offense need to do?
- 0:52Speaker 2: By the way, lo and I go way back. He
- 0:54Speaker 2: used to do a show in the Bay Area on
- 0:58Speaker 2: the game, and I used to be on a show,
- 1:00Speaker 2: so yeah, he of course I heard. I heard the segment.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So he wants to Eagles to run the football and
- 1:05Speaker 2: I understand that. But we'll get that in the second.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But Mike. Here's the good thing. Two out of the
- 1:11Speaker 2: last three games, Mike, as you know, the win was
- 1:14Speaker 2: terrible at home, so win will not be a factor,
- 1:16Speaker 2: whether or not be a factor. We saw the game
- 1:19Speaker 2: in Dallas where Hurts had the excellent first half. The
- 1:22Speaker 2: second half was ruined. Three drivers were ruined by penalty.
- 1:26Speaker 2: They had fourteen penalties in that game. One was actually
- 1:28Speaker 2: they actually fifteen. One was negated by offsetting with Dallas.
- 1:33Speaker 2: So look when they dropped back, they got to protect
- 1:37Speaker 2: right and Kevin Bittullo he called a really good game
- 1:40Speaker 2: against Dallas, despite what fans thought. He actually that was
- 1:42Speaker 2: one of his best games. He's called penalties, crushed them,
- 1:45Speaker 2: no question about that. That's not his fault. There's plenty
- 1:48Speaker 2: of other times you could criticize him, but he's been
- 1:50Speaker 2: with Hurts five years, Mike. One of my major criticisms
- 1:53Speaker 2: with with Petullo is he skipped steps like you. Kellimore
- 1:57Speaker 2: did the same thing. For two months last year after
- 1:59Speaker 2: the after that great game against Brazil, hurt struggled mightily,
- 2:03Speaker 2: and I would say every week, how are you gonna
- 2:05Speaker 2: help this quarterback? He's struggling to get the blot of
- 2:07Speaker 2: his hands quickly. You can't start going deep until you
- 2:10Speaker 2: go short. And they did a whole lot of things
- 2:13Speaker 2: against Dallas. So get Hurts after, get him off to
- 2:16Speaker 2: a fast start. Mike got it that easy passes, easy
- 2:21Speaker 2: completions have him feel good about himself. Now, I want
- 2:25Speaker 2: to add something this defense. I want to folks when
- 2:27Speaker 2: they watch tonight, watch jesse Mincher's defense. They'll run a
- 2:31Speaker 2: five man front. Well, pre snapper looks like a five
- 2:34Speaker 2: man front. They'll drop two guys out. Hurts has got
- 2:37Speaker 2: to be super decisive. Don't hesitate when he struggles. Mike,
- 2:41Speaker 2: he's not decisive. Jesse mentor the defensive coordinator, does a
- 2:45Speaker 2: lot of post staff disguise. He's got to be careful,
- 2:48Speaker 2: but not overly careful when he doesn't throw the football.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Be decisive tonight, Mike watched the folks watch that tonight.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Well, you know, the one thing is, yes, they're gonna
- 2:58Speaker 1: be on the road in la Is, a place where
- 3:00Speaker 1: their weather shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully get yeah, hopefully
- 3:04Speaker 1: get the passing game going. But can they get that
- 3:06Speaker 1: run game going. If they can't get the run game going, though,
- 3:09Speaker 1: can they do some things in the screen game. Can
- 3:12Speaker 1: they do some short things.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I put this on my list, Mike, because when
- 3:17Speaker 2: they've done it, it's actually been effective. Hurts will check
- 3:20Speaker 2: it down what he doesn't like what he sees. And
- 3:23Speaker 2: they don't use will Shipley as much as we thought
- 3:25Speaker 2: they would. Pot that Shipley look good in training camp,
- 3:27Speaker 2: they really haven't used them. Barkley's been good in the
- 3:29Speaker 2: screen game when you don't drop it. So yeah, and
- 3:32Speaker 2: by the way, wide receiver screens. Got it on the
- 3:35Speaker 2: tunnel screen or hide screen as some coaches call it.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You know, Siriani talked about using the time off quote
- 3:45Speaker 2: of like you know, the mini buy to change some
- 3:48Speaker 2: things up. My man Tim McManus had the story ESPN
- 3:51Speaker 2: dot Com that Syria and I spent more time on
- 3:55Speaker 2: offense and more time to meetings more active. Fine, but
- 3:59Speaker 2: let's talk about play selection. What are you doing to
- 4:02Speaker 2: use the enormous talent they have an offense And that's
- 4:05Speaker 2: just it's Sirianni scheme. Mike. You can blame, but fans
- 4:08Speaker 2: can blame Patula all they want, but it's Syriana scheme.
- 4:11Speaker 2: What we've told you is outdated and should be jumped
- 4:13Speaker 2: in the offseason. But what's not changed the Egos have
- 4:16Speaker 2: outstanding passing personnel, and by the way that Chargers are
- 4:21Speaker 2: not good at corner. Tarheep still has been a good story.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Not an a level corner Dante Jackson should not be starting.
- 4:27Speaker 2: So when they drop back and they protect curtain, he's decisive.
- 4:30Speaker 2: They should have success well.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And you know you got to get the offensive line,
- 4:35Speaker 1: the pass protection, all that stuff, and you know you're
- 4:38Speaker 1: wondering if this offensive line can be a factor in
- 4:41Speaker 1: the game tonight, Mike.
- 4:43Speaker 2: One of the things when they play twelve personnel, which
- 4:45Speaker 2: is two tight ends, two receivers who went back. We've
- 4:49Speaker 2: been calling this for on Inside the burd for six weeks.
- 4:52Speaker 2: It's really bothered me. It's such a small thing, but
- 4:54Speaker 2: it's actually a big thing. People know the game, fans
- 4:57Speaker 2: listen to, really know the game. They agree with me
- 4:59Speaker 2: because our fans on Patreon level three. We will talk
- 5:03Speaker 2: to those folks at halftime tonight. They noticed I've been
- 5:05Speaker 2: crying for this enough of calcu Terra is an inline
- 5:08Speaker 2: tight end. He can't do it. Cam Latt to Mike.
- 5:11Speaker 2: They use him as an offset fullback where he's got
- 5:13Speaker 2: a cross that's not the best way to us use him.
- 5:16Speaker 2: As a y tight end and in line blocker. Don't
- 5:20Speaker 2: use calcaterra. This is banded coaching. Mike, I rarely say
- 5:23Speaker 2: that I don't understand what they're trying to do here.
- 5:26Speaker 2: That's one thing that Syriana could protect. Well, he could
- 5:30Speaker 2: change excuse me, he can protect the player is get
- 5:34Speaker 2: calcu terra off the field and a lot to on
- 5:36Speaker 2: it when they play twelve personnel?
- 5:39Speaker 1: So what kind of d do we expect to see
- 5:42Speaker 1: from the Chargers tonight?
- 5:43Speaker 2: All right? So I heard you, you know, Mike, you
- 5:45Speaker 2: were talking Lorenzo Neil about it, Jesse Mentor about It's
- 5:49Speaker 2: a really cool story. Who was Harball's Jim Harball's DC
- 5:52Speaker 2: at Michigan? His dad Rick? Well, I know a little bit.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Rick was a defensive assist on a Chipcarell be the
- 6:00Speaker 2: senior defensive assistant first sunn Jesse. It's actually very cool.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And wait, you see Dalen Henley's a terrific inside backer.
- 6:11Speaker 2: He's great. Denzel Perriman the HLS one, the other inside backer,
- 6:16Speaker 2: they tackle really well. They'll blitz them a little bit.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Khalail Mack will probably be a Hall of Famer still
- 6:21Speaker 2: playing well. Marlon Tooley Poalocci's brother, the younger brother, Tooley
- 6:25Speaker 2: is having a breakout season. You got, you talked about it, Mike. Protect,
- 6:29Speaker 2: You've got to protect. Now. What's going to be fascinating
- 6:33Speaker 2: this Mike? And we'll move to defense in a second.
- 6:36Speaker 2: What is Batula and Sirianni's approach here? Is it more
- 6:40Speaker 2: twelve personnel? Is it more eleven? Because we got they
- 6:44Speaker 2: got Obviously they're going to try to run the football.
- 6:46Speaker 2: We know that Leagles don't run it well. Barkley is
- 6:48Speaker 2: still in pace for under twelve hundred yards, Mike, he
- 6:51Speaker 2: still is. So if they don't get off the good start.
- 6:56Speaker 2: To me, you got to spread the Chargers out. But
- 6:58Speaker 2: if they can't protect, Mike, you gotta play heavy twelve.
- 7:01Speaker 2: If you can't protect, you got to try something else,
- 7:04Speaker 2: and that's playing twelve personnel. All right.
- 7:06Speaker 1: There's a look at some of the things the Eagles
- 7:08Speaker 1: offense needs to try to do for a win over
- 7:11Speaker 1: the Chargers tonight. And of course, the Eagles offense thirteen
- 7:13Speaker 1: points a game over their last four. Their defense, though, yes,
- 7:17Speaker 1: that number does exist. Defensively, what do we expect, no,
- 7:22Speaker 1: Jalen Carter there tonight. This is a team that struggles
- 7:26Speaker 1: up front with their offensive line.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yeah, so Hassan Haskins, who the powerback who played for
- 7:32Speaker 2: harvvaut Michigan. He's activated along with Hampton, and then the
- 7:36Speaker 2: Kamanie Videll out of Troy has been a phenomenal story.
- 7:39Speaker 2: He's looked great. So they're going for a team that
- 7:42Speaker 2: had no depth at running back. Now they have an
- 7:44Speaker 2: abundance of depth. So they're in good shape and they
- 7:47Speaker 2: want to run under Atlantic City's Greg Roman. Greg Roman,
- 7:50Speaker 2: as a longtime NFL jeneral manager, told me most sophisticated
- 7:53Speaker 2: run game he's ever seen on tape. They orthodoxically do
- 7:56Speaker 2: a lot of different stuff. The twelve personnel, eleven personnel,
- 7:59Speaker 2: twenty one personal, twenty two personnel, two backs, Scott matt
- 8:04Speaker 2: Locked the fullback who was a d tackle. They do
- 8:08Speaker 2: a lot of different stuff, Mike. They've shown it pretty
- 8:12Speaker 2: much everything they do. But you don't know when you're
- 8:14Speaker 2: gonna get it.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Now.
- 8:15Speaker 2: You mentioned Jalen Carter not playing Byron, I mean young
- 8:21Speaker 2: Young is a good story. I'm fascinating to see what
- 8:25Speaker 2: the approaches that d tackle tonight. Mike. It's it's going
- 8:29Speaker 2: to be fun, Mike, It's going to be fun. But
- 8:31Speaker 2: see if they can't stop the run, Mike, it's hard
- 8:35Speaker 2: to blitz if you can't get up the field. And
- 8:37Speaker 2: by the way, Marcus Epps, as expected, was activated. We'd
- 8:41Speaker 2: be very surprised if you don't start it over Ceedey Brown.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And also how about this one. Andre Sam also elevated,
- 8:48Speaker 2: we'll play on special teams, so they're loaded at safety.
- 8:53Speaker 2: We'll see how they do it. But overall, Mike, with
- 8:58Speaker 2: their five man front, they got to be able to
- 9:01Speaker 2: stop the run, and you hope that they can. If
- 9:03Speaker 2: they can, it's going to be a long night.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Well, and it's a charger teap. It's got a lot
- 9:07Speaker 1: of weapons too. In the past game, I mean they
- 9:09Speaker 1: can kind of you know, you got Justin Herbert with
- 9:11Speaker 1: his hand here. I'm interested to see how that kind
- 9:13Speaker 1: of factors in. Lorenz O'Neil seem to think that he
- 9:16Speaker 1: would be fine with that that he did come back
- 9:19Speaker 1: obviously and play last week. But they could throw it around.
- 9:21Speaker 1: McConkie is the kind of guy that gives Eagles fits.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Keenan Allen just a veteran guy gats into, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 1: a crafty tight end and for a rookie, Quinton john
- 9:30Speaker 1: They got a lot of weapons here.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Quentin Johnston like he was headed to buff phil for
- 9:36Speaker 2: last season, but he's having a quasi breakout season. He's
- 9:39Speaker 2: their ex receiver, but Conky is their Z. They'll move
- 9:44Speaker 2: him inside and outside. He's not purely an outside receiver.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He really can't do that. He's phenomenal. The I said
- 9:51Speaker 2: this on our pregame show, which you could pick up,
- 9:53Speaker 2: by the way, you could after you've done folks, listen
- 9:56Speaker 2: tonight prior to the game. You can watch it with
- 9:58Speaker 2: Greg co selling Greg Jeff Motioner. You could download it
- 10:01Speaker 2: listen to an anity podcasting platform. I talked about this
- 10:04Speaker 2: twenty two years of the Scenon Bowl I've ever seen
- 10:07Speaker 2: is Ladin McConkie, just ridiculous, traderia quickness, very shifty. And
- 10:12Speaker 2: then Kenyan Allen is one of the best third down
- 10:15Speaker 2: receivers still the National Footbleague. It's incredible. And how about
- 10:18Speaker 2: Rondie Gatston junior. You and I Allen remember his dad
- 10:21Speaker 2: for the Dolphins were the Goggles. Yep, his son is
- 10:23Speaker 2: a jumpo receiver. Jump on he really I know he
- 10:26Speaker 2: played sad end but he he's like Evan Ingram, He's
- 10:29Speaker 2: super explosive. They got a lot of juice on offense. Mike,
- 10:32Speaker 2: I'm telling you, and I put this in my notes
- 10:35Speaker 2: for Dori. Jackson gets off to a bad start, pull him.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I'll be interest to see if that happens. Do they
- 10:43Speaker 2: move to Gene, which is what they've done in the past.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It's a corner. Will they ever play Jacory and Jackson
- 10:49Speaker 2: Jakryan Bennett?
- 10:50Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 10:51Speaker 2: It doesn't look like it. Vict doesn't have confidence in him,
- 10:53Speaker 2: but maybe maybe one of these days he's been better
- 10:56Speaker 2: in practice in Vic trustin who knows?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Tell here they could use Thomas Booker.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know what, Mike, I didn't like the trade.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I didn't like the trade when they traded the kid,
- 11:06Speaker 2: the backup tackle to the Packers. Yeah, it could be
- 11:11Speaker 2: right exact Darian Knark could call that was not a
- 11:14Speaker 2: good trade. I know they got a six round pick,
- 11:16Speaker 2: but they could have used him as a backup right
- 11:17Speaker 2: tackle and it's an extra tackle when they go to Jumbo.
- 11:21Speaker 2: So yeah, Thomas Booker. You know, it's funny he's starting,
- 11:23Speaker 2: man because the the Raiders are not good at de tackle.
- 11:27Speaker 2: But yeah, they could have absolute used them. And tonight
- 11:29Speaker 2: they really could have used them like, I know where
- 11:31Speaker 2: you're going here with that one. I get it.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah, just to add some more depth to that defensive
- 11:35Speaker 1: line spot which is obviously uh diminished right now with
- 11:39Speaker 1: Carter we don't know when he'll be back, but he's
- 11:42Speaker 1: certainly not playing tonight. And and you know, to say,
- 11:45Speaker 1: this is a Chargers team that is I don't know
- 11:48Speaker 1: what to make of them. They're good when they're healthy.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Their line is a mess, but this is just like
- 11:52Speaker 1: a super Bowl level team with their with their offensive
- 11:55Speaker 1: line attack right.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Right, well possibly now we got to see Herbert's now
- 12:00Speaker 2: had a broken left hand, so we have to see
- 12:01Speaker 2: I know it's his non throwing hands, see how it works.
- 12:03Speaker 2: So I want to give a shout out to Evan
- 12:06Speaker 2: excuse me, the sports Meant bros and their podcasters. So
- 12:11Speaker 2: Aaron Borgman, a former Eagles and chiefs assistant trainer. He
- 12:16Speaker 2: did a show for our Patreon Level three members and
- 12:21Speaker 2: it's a chalk talk. Wait to hear what he talked.
- 12:23Speaker 2: We did we posted this morning. Wait t here already
- 12:26Speaker 2: talks about lane shots and the Lyft Fronc injury. It's
- 12:29Speaker 2: crazy the information that he had and just about what
- 12:32Speaker 2: Lane's dealing with, and we went over Jalen Carter and
- 12:37Speaker 2: what's what's if he did get the PRP or another
- 12:41Speaker 2: tip of shot, what it entails Jalen Carter, as we
- 12:44Speaker 2: reported right run the Eagles draft and that well, we
- 12:47Speaker 2: actually talked about before the draft, but we explained it
- 12:49Speaker 2: after the draft. He's gonna have chronic shoulder problems and
- 12:53Speaker 2: he still does. It doesn't mean he won't play eight
- 12:54Speaker 2: or ten years, Mike, you just talked about it. We
- 12:57Speaker 2: don't know when he's going to be back, because if
- 12:59Speaker 2: he had shots, it's when the paint subside. So and
- 13:03Speaker 2: of its quarter zone. By the way, what Aaron Borgan
- 13:08Speaker 2: told us, it's a minimum of two weeks. It's really
- 13:10Speaker 2: hard to come back for two weeks when you get
- 13:12Speaker 2: quarters on shots.
- 13:13Speaker 1: All right. You can listen to the game tonight right
- 13:15Speaker 1: here on ninety seven three ESPN. Meil Reese might quick
- 13:18Speaker 1: on the call Eagles chargers. Both teams needed chargers in
- 13:23Speaker 1: that wild card mix in the ASC West. Eagles obviously
- 13:27Speaker 1: looking for a number one seed with the Bears losing yesterday.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan and the guys over at inside the Birds
- 13:32Speaker 1: have plenty more on this game check out the Inside
- 13:35Speaker 1: of the Birds podcast on all podcasting platforms. Thanks Adam,
- 13:40Speaker 1: Thanks man Cea.
