- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody.
- 0:28Good morning from the. Chicken coop.
- 0:30So have you ever considered the amount of chatter that goes on
- 0:37during your chores? Now we talk a lot about mine
- 0:39chatter and you know most of us are aware of it.
- 0:43But I'm talking about the chatter that you really don't
- 0:46think much about, the one that goes on while you're doing
- 0:49chores. And some of those chores can
- 0:52make the mind chatter go completely away.
- 0:54Like I can tell you when I'm gardening, my mind is quiet.
- 0:57It's kind of like the dirt shuts my head off, which is lovely.
- 1:00And I love it. And it makes me feel fantastic
- 1:04because it completely takes everything away.
- 1:06And I so appreciate that. And then there's the mind
- 1:09chatter that's like when you're doing little chores like folding
- 1:13clothes or in this case, why we're talking about this is this
- 1:17morning I was every morning I prepare a platter for the
- 1:22actually 3 platters for the chickens.
- 1:24I have so many, it started out as a single platter.
- 1:27And I'm talking about like a metal cookie sheet, big standard
- 1:31size for cookie sheet. And I do two of those and then a
- 1:34round one that's like for a pizza.
- 1:36And I don't even know how it started that the round one got
- 1:39in there. But I think it was because I had
- 1:40chicks at the time and I needed to give them something too.
- 1:43But every morning, my intention is to give them fresh vegetables
- 1:47and fruits so that their digestive system is nice and
- 1:51clean. So most mornings they get
- 1:54something like shredded zucchini or and squash with blueberries.
- 1:59And I put hot, hot pepper flakes on it and melted coconut oil.
- 2:04And then I surround it with some sliced bananas and some oatmeal
- 2:09that has not been cooked. They love oatmeal that has not
- 2:12been cooked. They love it cooked too, but
- 2:14they really like it that way. And I find that when I do these
- 2:18things, they they stay. They've just stayed.
- 2:20It's so healthy. And it's my intention when I'm
- 2:24doing this little tiny task in the morning and it takes me up.
- 2:27Yes, it takes me extra time. It takes me about 10 minutes to
- 2:31get their stuff all together. But you know what?
- 2:33I look at them and I see how healthy they are and I see their
- 2:36feathers and I see what they look like and I'm like, no, you
- 2:38know what? This is worth all of the extra
- 2:41time to make sure that they stay healthy, just like cleaning out
- 2:44their koopas. But.
- 2:46During that time. When I'm preparing the platters,
- 2:49I've created a habit of sitting there and saying to myself, OK,
- 2:52I'm going to direct the mind chatter and rather I than saying
- 2:56I have to hurry up and get this done, I say I'm so grateful for
- 3:00my chickens. I'm so grateful for the gifts
- 3:02they give me. I'm so grateful for the fact
- 3:04that they're all so healthy. I'm so grateful for the fact
- 3:07that they love their breakfast. Platters, I'm grateful that I.
- 3:10Have. Them to.
- 3:10Care for? And I and I change the list up
- 3:13because I just run it in my head randomly.
- 3:15I don't have it written down, but I.
- 3:17Control those. Thoughts during the?
- 3:20Task. And what's?
- 3:22Interesting about doing that and it's and it's really become very
- 3:25much a a ritual for me is that it makes such a big difference
- 3:31to how I feel about doing things so when I'm.
- 3:35Doing it I'm not like. Oh, I got to get this done.
- 3:37I got a hurry. I got to get out of here.
- 3:39This is. Such a nuisance.
- 3:40I never think that because I've never once had that thought
- 3:44around it. Because I've controlled.
- 3:45It right from the beginning and I've worked really hard about
- 3:48having the intention with the task intentions and.
- 3:52Tasks link them up so. When I'm dealing with my dog and
- 3:58he's very drooly and I have to wipe his face and instead of
- 4:02complaining about the drool, which believe me, I did because
- 4:06he was just such a drooler, I mean like bubbles coming out the
- 4:09side of his mouth. I would have to reframe that for
- 4:12myself. And I started to say, OK, every
- 4:14time I wipe his drool, I'm going to kiss him on the forehead.
- 4:17And now he actually expects that.
- 4:20And I say and and he looks at me like he puts his head up, like
- 4:22he's waiting for me to give him a kiss on the top of his head.
- 4:25And that has taught me about that, the power of intention,
- 4:29because now it's a moment for us.
- 4:31So when he's drooling, I'm like, okay, here come kisses and he
- 4:35wags his tail and I wipe his face and then I kiss him.
- 4:39But in my head I'm saying okay, the drool means kisses.
- 4:42And instead of saying drool, now I need to wipe it up again so
- 4:47that those little twists really matter to your well-being.
- 4:52They matter because it gives you the opportunity to decide what
- 4:56that chatter is going to say. The chatter is going to.
- 4:59Happen my friends, it's very hard to quiet it.
- 5:02And I mean I genuinely say this unless you are an avid meditator
- 5:07and you sit down to meditate regularly for a an extended
- 5:12period of time each day to train the quiet.
- 5:16You have to. Recognize.
- 5:18That that is a skill. A lot of us don't have.
- 5:21It this. Person that's talking to you
- 5:24does not have that skill. And the way I quiet my mind is
- 5:27when I'm gardening, I can go immediately to the garden, put
- 5:31my hands in dirt and and I'm just done.
- 5:34It doesn't matter even if I'm doing seeds I I have this like
- 5:39everything decompresses and I'm focused on them, but that still
- 5:42doesn't make the chatter quiet. So I'm intending those seeds to
- 5:46be happy and grow and love their life.
- 5:49The dirt though, when I sit in the ground, everything.
- 5:54And I mean everything quiet. So you have to just deal with.
- 5:58The chatter. Don't make yourself feel bad
- 5:59about it. Intend something great, put that
- 6:02energy somewhere else and because the outcome is to feel
- 6:05great and this will help that. So I.
- 6:08Hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:12Bye.
