- 0:14Speaker 1: things that I'm doing my family, the things that fulfill me,
- 0:17Speaker 1: the things that excite me, those are my goal tos period,

- 3:56Speaker 2: Today.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I am sitting down with my friend Trent shell In.
- 4:00Speaker 3: You doing, man, what's up?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Emily? I'm doing great? How you doing?
- 4:03Speaker 4: I'm so good. I told you I'm putting together this
- 4:06Speaker 4: series of little tidbits to kick off the year here,
- 4:10Speaker 4: and there is no one I know that's more perhaps
- 4:13Speaker 4: motivational than you are. So I figured it was a
- 4:17Speaker 4: good time for us to reconnect and get some feedback
- 4:20Speaker 4: from you on twenty twenty one and some thoughts on
- 4:22Speaker 4: where we can go in twenty twenty two. So the
- 4:25Speaker 4: way that this works here, I'm about to ask you
- 4:28Speaker 4: for your one singular word. It's hard to pick one
- 4:32Speaker 4: that sums up twenty twenty one. Trent Shelton, what is
- 4:37Speaker 4: your word?
- 4:38Speaker 2: Perseverance?
- 4:40Speaker 4: All right, talk me through where that choice word comes from.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, twenty twenty one. I'm very
- 4:49Speaker 2: skeptical using certain words, but I'll just use this. It
- 4:53Speaker 2: was the hardest year in my life.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I know, when I look back, I'm want to be
- 4:56Speaker 1: like this is probably the most growth year in my life,
- 4:58Speaker 1: most flilling, I would say, for filling, but the year
- 5:01Speaker 1: that helped me become the strongest. But by this year
- 5:03Speaker 1: was rough for me, just some losses in my life,
- 5:06Speaker 1: a lot of changes. Just seemed like it was storm
- 5:10Speaker 1: after storm after stormy Personally, a lot of things in
- 5:13Speaker 1: my immediate personal life is great, but you know, I
- 5:16Speaker 1: mean with my mother, my grandmother, just some business stuff
- 5:19Speaker 1: here and there, and I had to persevere through a lot.
- 5:23Speaker 1: And I actually put this on my Instagram yesterday, like
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'm proud of myself for you know, standing ten toes
- 5:28Speaker 1: down and weathering the storm and actually you know, having
- 5:31Speaker 1: to live out which we do so much, having to
- 5:34Speaker 1: live out what I preach more than ever this year.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So perseverance is definitely in the words, had to persevere
- 5:39Speaker 1: through so much this year.
- 5:41Speaker 4: When you think about perseverance, do you think that your
- 5:47Speaker 4: skill for that has been something that you've acquired over time,
- 5:50Speaker 4: or do you feel like you've always been really good
- 5:53Speaker 4: at sticking out the challenging moments.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I think, looking back, I've always had that that that
- 6:02Speaker 1: characteristic or quality to be able to push through because
- 6:06Speaker 1: I always think, even when I was little, I always
- 6:08Speaker 1: think like, Okay, what's the alternative to give up? And
- 6:10Speaker 1: then now you just dig yourself in a deeper ditch
- 6:12Speaker 1: And I know where that leads to. But I think
- 6:14Speaker 1: definitely over the years and me playing sports has allowed
- 6:17Speaker 1: me to persevere and build endurance. I mean, I know
- 6:19Speaker 1: your endurance runners, so you know what that's all about.
- 6:21Speaker 1: But that endurance and perseverance through plants, sports and going
- 6:24Speaker 1: through seasons of having to grind it out and injuries
- 6:27Speaker 1: and setbacks, and you know, you just kind of whether
- 6:30Speaker 1: the storm. You realize that the storm really is meant
- 6:33Speaker 1: to build you, not break you, meant to grow your life,
- 6:35Speaker 1: not kill your life. And so I've learned that throughout
- 6:38Speaker 1: my you know, thirty seven years on this earth of
- 6:41Speaker 1: just you know, everything is building you and working for
- 6:44Speaker 1: you if you allow it to.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, And I know you mentioned you dealt with
- 6:48Speaker 4: a lot of tough losses over the past through sixty five.
- 6:52Speaker 4: For anyone else who can really relate with that and
- 6:55Speaker 4: has dealt with similar loss, what advice do you have
- 6:57Speaker 4: for them if they be persevering doesn't feel as natural?
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, So, I mean, depending what loss, If it's a
- 7:05Speaker 1: loss of a love on like I've dealt with. I
- 7:07Speaker 1: would just ask you just to change your perspective around it.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It's always going to be hard, it's always going to
- 7:11Speaker 1: be tough, it's always going to be there.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And even if it isn't a love and maybe you
- 7:14Speaker 2: lost the job or lost the.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Sport, I would just tell you to what's ask yourself,
- 7:20Speaker 1: what's the alternative? And I know that might be a
- 7:22Speaker 1: question that you might be in a bad place. You
- 7:23Speaker 1: might well, I don't want to go on the more
- 7:25Speaker 1: I don't. I don't want to continue to live life.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But for me, I look myself in the mirror and
- 7:29Speaker 1: I said, man, like I want to honor my mother.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I want to honor my grandmother.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I want to honor even my father, even everybody who
- 7:36Speaker 1: came before me, the sacrifices that they made for me
- 7:39Speaker 1: to have the life that I that I have. I
- 7:41Speaker 1: want to take the legacy further. And that was the
- 7:43Speaker 1: thing that really got me going. And this seems I
- 7:46Speaker 1: don't know if I talked talked about this on the
- 7:48Speaker 1: last podcast. I don't think I did. But one of
- 7:50Speaker 1: the things that that was really a shift in my
- 7:53Speaker 1: in my mind frame was like me looking in the mirror.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I remember it was like July, I was depressed and
- 7:59Speaker 1: probably the worst place my life that I've been in
- 8:00Speaker 1: a long time.
- 8:02Speaker 2: And I just asked myself.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I said, man, if I was to die to day,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and I know this seems extreme, Like would I want
- 8:07Speaker 1: to be the reason why other people quit? Would I
- 8:09Speaker 1: want to be the reason why other people give up?
- 8:10Speaker 1: We would I want to be the reason why people
- 8:12Speaker 1: stop moving forward? And I said there, And I thought
- 8:14Speaker 1: about my angels and I was like, man, they're probably
- 8:17Speaker 1: crying right now that things are dying inside of me.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And so in that moment, I say, you know what,
- 8:23Speaker 1: it's time to turn the page. It's time to live,
- 8:25Speaker 1: It's time to get the most out of this life,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and it's time to honor them bey how I live
- 8:28Speaker 1: my life. And so that was a big mind shift
- 8:30Speaker 1: for me and perspective shift that switched it from my
- 8:32Speaker 1: prison to my power. That really like turned the page
- 8:35Speaker 1: in my life and turn my grief into greatness. As
- 8:38Speaker 1: I like to say, I.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Think it's hard right to make that change, like to
- 8:42Speaker 4: consciously choose the greatness over the grief, because that grief
- 8:46Speaker 4: can just be so so heavy. So when you're struggling
- 8:49Speaker 4: to move forward and to find that silver lining. I
- 8:53Speaker 4: love the way that you phrase that, thinking about how
- 8:56Speaker 4: would these people that I loved so much, how would
- 8:59Speaker 4: they want me to move forward?
- 9:01Speaker 3: How would they want me to be living my life?
- 9:03Speaker 4: And again, that's a hard question to ask yourself when
- 9:05Speaker 4: that grief feels like such a burden.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Absolutely, but that is the thing, Like I have people
- 9:11Speaker 1: hit me up all the time. It just I mean,
- 9:13Speaker 1: it just seems like there's so many losses this year,
- 9:15Speaker 1: whether it be with the you know, with COVID or
- 9:17Speaker 1: whatever it may be going on in the world. It
- 9:19Speaker 1: just seems like I get it every day, like, man,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I lost my parents, I lost this, I lost my kid,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and I just tell them that, I said, man, it's
- 9:25Speaker 1: never going to be the same, even if you lost
- 9:27Speaker 1: a dream. It's just like, how can I get the
- 9:31Speaker 1: most out of my life, you know, from this moment on,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and it's going to be a new normal.
- 9:35Speaker 2: It's going to look different.
- 9:35Speaker 1: You have to accept that because sometimes we want the
- 9:38Speaker 1: same life, the same you know things, and it's different
- 9:43Speaker 1: and adjusting it to a new normal, whether it's leaving
- 9:46Speaker 1: a job, leaving a sport, or trying to live life
- 9:48Speaker 1: without a loved one it's tough. You're gonna go through
- 9:50Speaker 1: your seasons, but you can allow those things to you know,
- 9:53Speaker 1: build you and not break you.
- 9:54Speaker 3: As I say, perseverance your big word for twenty twenty one.
- 9:58Speaker 4: When you think about perhaps an other takeaway or two
- 10:01Speaker 4: that you had from the year, whether it be in
- 10:04Speaker 4: some of the pivots that you've been continuing to make
- 10:06Speaker 4: within your business, I know doing a lot of speaking
- 10:08Speaker 4: that's completely different than it used to look now. But
- 10:11Speaker 4: what would you say another big takeaway has been for
- 10:14Speaker 4: you over the last year.
- 10:16Speaker 2: The power, you.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Said it, the power to pivot, the power to adjust.
- 10:22Speaker 2: You know, I'm always you know, this is the athlete
- 10:25Speaker 2: in me, right.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I always know that even right now, like as I'm
- 10:29Speaker 1: planning out twenty twenty two, my plan is to have
- 10:32Speaker 1: a plan. When that plan doesn't work out, so I
- 10:34Speaker 1: know that I know that how I wanted to go
- 10:38Speaker 1: is not going to happen. You know, there's gonna be
- 10:39Speaker 1: some bumps, There's gonna be some you know, some obstacles.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And I've just.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Always learned from football that hey, the team that wins
- 10:46Speaker 1: the game is not the team that goes in with
- 10:48Speaker 1: the best game plans. The team that knows how to
- 10:50Speaker 1: adjust during the game that have time, third and fourth quarter.
- 10:54Speaker 1: So I'm always just thinking about adjustment. And this year
- 10:56Speaker 1: it taught me a lot about adjusting. You know, my
- 10:59Speaker 1: business and you know how I just operate every single day.
- 11:02Speaker 1: And I think when you're setting in your ways, it's
- 11:05Speaker 1: dangerous at a time.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Like I believe in routines.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I think routines are great, but you have to be
- 11:09Speaker 1: willing to change. You have to be willing to adapt
- 11:11Speaker 1: with the times. I mean, we're in a time of
- 11:13Speaker 1: digital technology like more than ever, and you can't win
- 11:17Speaker 1: today's game from yesterday's points, right, So I'm always thinking
- 11:20Speaker 1: about how can I adjust, how can I reinvent myself
- 11:23Speaker 1: every single day or every single month, every single year
- 11:26Speaker 1: to adapt with the changes that are going on in
- 11:28Speaker 1: the world.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and I've shared this on the show before, but
- 11:32Speaker 4: one of my mentors said to me once, he said,
- 11:34Speaker 4: if you don't have a plan B, then you don't
- 11:36Speaker 4: have a plan. And it's interesting to think of it
- 11:38Speaker 4: that way, right, because you want to have a plan B.
- 11:41Speaker 4: But I think sometimes there's like a there's a roadblock
- 11:44Speaker 4: in the mindset of like wanting to set up your
- 11:46Speaker 4: plan B.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Because you're so focused on Plan A. You know what
- 11:50Speaker 3: I mean.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Absolutely? You know. For me, it's like I talk about
- 11:57Speaker 2: this a lot. I always ask people like, how are
- 11:59Speaker 2: you going to risk?
- 12:00Speaker 1: And I think that's the big thing with the like
- 12:03Speaker 1: the plan B, because sometimes plan B is just an
- 12:05Speaker 1: extension off of Plan A.
- 12:06Speaker 2: And I've made up even this year.
- 12:09Speaker 1: So this year I knew, you know, I had a
- 12:14Speaker 1: vision of knowing that, you know, my mother would die
- 12:16Speaker 1: at a certain time this year, even though we hoped
- 12:18Speaker 1: she wouldn't, but it was the point where, you know,
- 12:20Speaker 1: her living wasn't good for her. And I always would
- 12:23Speaker 1: tell myself, Man, as hard as it may be, this
- 12:26Speaker 1: is how I'm going to respond. I tell athletes all
- 12:28Speaker 1: the time, you know how you're gonna respond when you're
- 12:30Speaker 1: down by twenty How you're gonna respond when that dB
- 12:34Speaker 1: is locking you up? How are you gonna respond? So
- 12:36Speaker 1: I think going into twenty twenty two, you have to
- 12:39Speaker 1: whether it's keywords, phrases, you have to know how you're
- 12:43Speaker 1: going to respond when certain things happen.
- 12:45Speaker 2: And that's helped me so much.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Always I'm gonna respond with greatness, I'm gonna respond with perseverance,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna respond by doing this or by doing that,
- 12:52Speaker 1: and that's really helped me to adjust in seasons of change.
- 12:57Speaker 4: You are a father, you're a husband, been obviously in
- 13:01Speaker 4: addition to a wildly successful businessman. Talk to me about
- 13:05Speaker 4: how you kind of take care of you a little
- 13:08Speaker 4: bit so that you can show up for the other
- 13:10Speaker 4: people that you love, for the other people that are
- 13:12Speaker 4: navigating these hardships when again, it just feels super challenging.
- 13:17Speaker 3: To do that.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I'll talk about this because I'm literally
- 13:22Speaker 1: I was talking about it today. You know, I've been
- 13:26Speaker 1: really obsessed with not wasted minutes of my life, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: just talking to people that are older than me. You know,
- 13:33Speaker 1: the biggest regret is I wish I had more minutes,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and so I've been super obsessed, obsessed, And I actually
- 13:38Speaker 1: did a exercise for myself this year and realized how
- 13:41Speaker 1: many minutes I wasted on things that didn't help my life.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I wasted on you know, not putting myself first. I
- 13:48Speaker 1: wasted on certain things in my life. So this year,
- 13:53Speaker 1: going into this year, I'm very conscious on not living
- 13:59Speaker 1: in wasted minutes. I think it's like five hundred and
- 14:01Speaker 1: twenty five thousand minuts year, I'm very conscious of not
- 14:04Speaker 1: wasting minutes, but very conscious of very conscious not waste mints,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and also very conscious of making more purposeful minutes in
- 14:12Speaker 1: my life. And so to the person listening to this,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I would just ask you, like, how much time this
- 14:17Speaker 1: past year did you spend on things that fulfilled you?
- 14:20Speaker 1: How much time next year are you going to spend
- 14:22Speaker 1: on things that fulfill you? Because that's what matters. And
- 14:24Speaker 1: for me, it was like really constructing. And I'm careful
- 14:30Speaker 1: when I said it's simply because I know certain people
- 14:32Speaker 1: are in certain places, Like I wasn't always here to
- 14:34Speaker 1: be able to do this, but I feel like so
- 14:36Speaker 1: many times we fit us into our schedule right, like
- 14:39Speaker 1: we fit ourselves into our schedule, like we save the
- 14:42Speaker 1: bare minimum for things that fulfill us. My life changed
- 14:46Speaker 1: when I stopped doing that, Like I started fitting other
- 14:49Speaker 1: things in my schedule, like these are things that I'm
- 14:51Speaker 1: doing my family, the things that fulfill me, the things
- 14:53Speaker 1: that excite me, those are my goal tos period, and
- 14:56Speaker 1: then everything else finds its place, not the opposite way around.
- 14:59Speaker 1: So when I had that mind mind set, I experience
- 15:01Speaker 1: more peace, more fulfillment, and more enjoyment in my life.
- 15:05Speaker 4: You said you did like a specific exercise, Can you
- 15:08Speaker 4: talk a little bit about what that was.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really simple. It's just writing down how you
- 15:13Speaker 1: spent your minutes. And you might not know exactly, but
- 15:15Speaker 1: this could be something going into the new year. I
- 15:18Speaker 1: think there's like fourteen hundred minutes a week, right, and
- 15:20Speaker 1: so maybe it's weekly, maybe it's monthly. You just go
- 15:24Speaker 1: back because you have minutes that are going to be
- 15:27Speaker 1: spent sleeping. If you have a nine to five, they're
- 15:29Speaker 1: going to be spent in your nine to five. But
- 15:32Speaker 1: where are those other minutes being spent in your life?
- 15:34Speaker 2: Right?
- 15:34Speaker 1: If you say, man, I want a more peaceful life,
- 15:36Speaker 1: or I want to start I want to be an entrepreneur,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I want to start my own business, or I want
- 15:40Speaker 1: to spend more time with my family, I want to travel,
- 15:42Speaker 1: Then when you get to the end of twenty twenty two,
- 15:45Speaker 1: if you can say, man, my life this year was great,
- 15:48Speaker 1: it's because you actually.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Spend minutes on things that you want to do.
- 15:51Speaker 1: If you said, man, it's your suck, probably because you
- 15:53Speaker 1: spend money's on things that minutes on things that you
- 15:55Speaker 1: didn't want to do. So the exercise is pretty simple.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Just right down the list of things that fulfill you
- 16:00Speaker 1: from this last year. So if it's your family, if
- 16:03Speaker 1: it's your kids, if it's your business, if it's traveling,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and then just write down, you know, estimate how much
- 16:11Speaker 1: time that you spend on those things. And I can
- 16:14Speaker 1: promise you if you spend minimum time on those things
- 16:16Speaker 1: that you say fulfill you, you didn't have a fulfill uar.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And so going into this next year, just say, hey,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I'm going to make sure every week, whether it's twenty
- 16:24Speaker 1: percent of my time or ten percent, whatever it may
- 16:26Speaker 1: be for you, I'm going to make sure I'm intentional
- 16:29Speaker 1: with spending my minutes more purposefully, more purposeful on the
- 16:32Speaker 1: things that trually matter to me.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Yeah, that's super, super super valuable advice.
- 16:38Speaker 4: It's so interesting, right because I remember once someone said
- 16:40Speaker 4: to me, like, think about the time you have before, Like, say,
- 16:43Speaker 4: you do have a nine to five before you get
- 16:44Speaker 4: to your desk, and after you have your desk, you're
- 16:46Speaker 4: waking hours. Right for some people, that's something like four
- 16:49Speaker 4: hours on each side. And then if you take a
- 16:51Speaker 4: step back and you ask yourself, like, what are you
- 16:53Speaker 4: doing in four hours in the morning? And four hours
- 16:56Speaker 4: at night, and even an exercise like if you can't
- 16:59Speaker 4: really call, like if it was kind of gray space.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Oftentimes that gray space indicates like perhaps scrolling or something else.
- 17:06Speaker 4: If that's just gray space, then again kind of similar
- 17:09Speaker 4: to the exercise you're saying, like, take a step back
- 17:12Speaker 4: and ask yourself, like, what if someone told you you
- 17:14Speaker 4: have eight hours in a day that you don't even
- 17:16Speaker 4: realize that you're not taking advantage of.
- 17:18Speaker 3: What do you do with them? What do you want
- 17:19Speaker 3: to do?
- 17:20Speaker 4: And highlighting again those priorities, those values. It's like such
- 17:24Speaker 4: a beautiful and really really helpful, helpful exercise.
- 17:28Speaker 1: You know too, Just to add to that, Like my
- 17:31Speaker 1: thought process was that obviously we have our iPhones, right,
- 17:33Speaker 1: and it shows us like how much screen time you
- 17:35Speaker 1: spend on certain apps. And I thought about that emotionally.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'm like, man, like I wish there was a thing.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it's not probably the next use. I
- 17:45Speaker 1: wish there was a thing that showed me how much
- 17:48Speaker 1: time I spent emotionally on things that didn't help my life,
- 17:52Speaker 1: like how much time I spent, in comparison, how much
- 17:54Speaker 1: time I spent in self sabotage and so one of
- 17:59Speaker 1: the things for me this next year is every time
- 18:02Speaker 1: I catch myself and I'm gonna try my best to
- 18:04Speaker 1: do this catch myself in comparison, I'm gonna immediately stop
- 18:08Speaker 1: myself and spend at least five.
- 18:11Speaker 2: To ten minutes in appreciation.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Like I'm gonna combat those things as much as I can,
- 18:15Speaker 1: because it's just crazy.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Man.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I think if we really took time and thought about that,
- 18:19Speaker 1: so many of us have spent so much time emotional
- 18:21Speaker 1: on things that.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Don't help our life.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Definitely, when you reflect on the difficulties that you faced
- 18:29Speaker 4: in twenty one and you think about some of the
- 18:31Speaker 4: best advice that has been offered to you, As someone
- 18:34Speaker 4: who often is offering advice to other people, what comes
- 18:37Speaker 4: to mind.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like the most negative positive advice ever. One
- 18:43Speaker 1: of my friends just told me this, and she said,
- 18:46Speaker 1: your life will never be the same, and it was
- 18:50Speaker 1: what I needed to hear in that moment because I
- 18:52Speaker 1: wanted my life to be the same. I wanted my
- 18:54Speaker 1: I wanted to turn back the hands of time. I
- 18:56Speaker 1: wanted to go back, and she told me, your life
- 19:00Speaker 1: will never be the same.
- 19:02Speaker 2: That doesn't mean it has to be a bad thing.
- 19:04Speaker 1: It could be a great thing, but you got to
- 19:05Speaker 1: stop holding on to something that's that doesn't exist anymore.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And yeah, there were a lot of things in my
- 19:13Speaker 1: life that you know, outside of the things people saw,
- 19:16Speaker 1: but other things in my life that I was probably
- 19:18Speaker 1: still holding on to that didn't exist anymore. And so
- 19:21Speaker 1: that was a very powerful statement. And I need those
- 19:25Speaker 1: statements like I'm a straight up guy and those statements.
- 19:26Speaker 2: To me my home.
- 19:27Speaker 4: It's so relevant to everything though, right beyond just the
- 19:31Speaker 4: examples that you're providing here. It will never be the
- 19:33Speaker 4: same whether you're holding on to a relationship that didn't
- 19:36Speaker 4: serve you or maybe one that did but you still
- 19:38Speaker 4: had to let go of, or if you're thinking about
- 19:40Speaker 4: your fitness that you had eight years ago that you
- 19:43Speaker 4: don't have anymore. It's like it unless you choose to
- 19:46Speaker 4: move forward with the things that you have instead of
- 19:48Speaker 4: focusing on the things that you don't, then you're never
- 19:50Speaker 4: going to be able to move forward at all.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Ah, that is so big, especially you said fitness man
- 19:57Speaker 1: like as an athlete, I know you can relate like
- 19:59Speaker 1: I so bad when I run a four to three again,
- 20:01Speaker 1: like I judged myself by that. I'm like or like
- 20:04Speaker 1: a certain time, like, man, I want to run this.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I'm not saying that it's not possible, but you know
- 20:09Speaker 1: some things, you know, your body, you get to a
- 20:11Speaker 1: certain age that it pretty much is impossible, not saying
- 20:13Speaker 1: that you can't be the best version of yourself at
- 20:15Speaker 1: that time. And so for me, I had to let
- 20:17Speaker 1: go of certain things like that, like how I ran,
- 20:19Speaker 1: or how I operate or how I you know, I'm like,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'm thirty seven now. Certain things aren't going to look
- 20:23Speaker 1: like when I was twenty one years old.
- 20:25Speaker 4: So yeah, you're like, fine, fine, I will accept perhaps
- 20:31Speaker 4: the who knows, Yeah, I'm slow now.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I'm love the fact that I'm slower now for sure.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Well, these are all really really helpful takeaways. The last
- 20:41Speaker 4: two things that we're going to get into here first
- 20:43Speaker 4: and foremost, what excites you for twenty twenty two, Trent.
- 20:52Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 20:55Speaker 3: We're planning. We have Plan A and Plan B and
- 20:57Speaker 3: Plan C.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You so just a new beginning, you know, that's the
- 21:03Speaker 1: biggest thing that excites me. It is just a fresh
- 21:05Speaker 1: start for me. I feel like I said, I said
- 21:08Speaker 1: this in twenty twenty twenty twenty one was but it's
- 21:10Speaker 1: just a new beginning of just being able to turn
- 21:14Speaker 1: the page and just start fresh. And for me, that's big,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you know, leaving some things in the past and just
- 21:21Speaker 1: creating some new, beautiful, more beautiful experiences and different things
- 21:25Speaker 1: with my life.
- 21:26Speaker 2: So just those two worst new beginnings is what excites
- 21:29Speaker 2: me the most.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think that's something that's really beautiful.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Is of course this you know, this episode coming out
- 21:34Speaker 4: in the first week of twenty twenty two. But the
- 21:37Speaker 4: reality is that no matter what happens this week or
- 21:40Speaker 4: next week, we have the conscious choice to choose every
- 21:43Speaker 4: single day how we want to act, what we want
- 21:46Speaker 4: to do. So sometimes, you know, we put so much
- 21:48Speaker 4: weight on this like one chance at this new beginning,
- 21:51Speaker 4: but like every single day that's your chance, right, every
- 21:55Speaker 4: single day you get to make the conscious choice how
- 21:58Speaker 4: you're going to show up, and it doesn't matter what
- 22:02Speaker 4: your friend or your mom or your boss thinks, like
- 22:05Speaker 4: you get to make that choice for you. And sometimes
- 22:07Speaker 4: again that can feel really tough, but like it's a choice, and.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Every day is a new beginning. Like you don't need
- 22:13Speaker 2: a new year and a new month.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Literally all you need is a new moment to make
- 22:16Speaker 1: that choice, and that's something that I live by, you know,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I try to live by every single day. It's like, Man,
- 22:21Speaker 1: I can make a choice right now to change whatever
- 22:23Speaker 1: it is. As long as I stay committed to that choice,
- 22:25Speaker 1: it can lead into a new life. But the choice
- 22:28Speaker 1: craates the new beginning.
- 22:29Speaker 3: So I love that final question here for you, Trent.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Right now, you have an opportunity to offer yourself a
- 22:36Speaker 4: piece of advice at the beginning of twenty twenty one.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Looking back on that now, with all the lessons and
- 22:43Speaker 4: the takeaways and the perspective that you gained, what do
- 22:47Speaker 4: you tell yourself.
- 22:50Speaker 1: You're gonna go through the most difficult year of your life,
- 22:55Speaker 1: but you're gonna survive it. You're gonna cry, you're gonna laugh,
- 22:59Speaker 1: you're gonna you're gonna hurt, but you're not gonna fold.
- 23:04Speaker 2: You're gonna still push through.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And when you look back on twenty twenty one, even
- 23:08Speaker 1: though it doesn't feel like it at the moment, you're
- 23:10Speaker 1: gonna realize that twenty twenty one taught you things that
- 23:14Speaker 1: no other year yet has taught you.
- 23:18Speaker 2: And so learn the lessons, move through it, grow through it.
- 23:22Speaker 4: And let it build you grateful for you, Let it
- 23:25Speaker 4: build you, Trent, how do the hurdlers fall along with you?
- 23:27Speaker 4: For so many more beautiful takeaways and advice and the
- 23:30Speaker 4: motivation they need to make twenty twenty two a good one.
