Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, well it's another another week and Blue Terminella.
- 0:04Speaker 1: We didn't really get a chance to recap what happened
- 0:06Speaker 1: with the Knicks past Monday. They're going to the NBA
- 0:09Speaker 1: Finals for the first time from nineteen ninety nine. And
- 0:12Speaker 1: you know, it's interesting is you were in the Nets
- 0:14Speaker 1: organization in that era. So what's the perspective like this
- 0:19Speaker 1: time around. What's Terminal's sake this time compared to when
- 0:22Speaker 1: you were in the league twenty seven years ago?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Well, twenty seven years ago when the when the Knicks
- 0:27Speaker 2: got to the finals, that that was probably the they
- 0:33Speaker 2: had another year or two, but that was probably about
- 0:36Speaker 2: ann eight or nine year run that the Knicks had
- 0:42Speaker 2: of being a contending team. Obviously, the best shot being
- 0:46Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety four when they beat when they got
- 0:49Speaker 2: to the finals, beat the Bulls without Jordan, and that's
- 0:52Speaker 2: always going to be a you know, a little black
- 0:56Speaker 2: mark on that Nick team for not taking advantage of
- 1:01Speaker 2: Jordan being retired where they lost to the Rockets four
- 1:04Speaker 2: games to three. But then the next couple of years
- 1:09Speaker 2: that's when the team started to go into this long draft.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But it's exciting and I think the Knicks have reached
- 1:17Speaker 2: their goal when the season began, that was there. They
- 1:20Speaker 2: had to get to at least the NBA Finals. And
- 1:23Speaker 2: they did. Yes, they did not. They did not play
- 1:26Speaker 2: a gamut of great teams. But that's not the Knicks fault.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It's not it's not the Knicks fault that that those
- 1:33Speaker 2: were the three opponents. The Knicks have gelled. They'vejeled since
- 1:37Speaker 2: falling behind two games to one to the Hawks, which
- 1:41Speaker 2: might have been a wake up call for them. You know,
- 1:44Speaker 2: they won eleven playoff games in a row, which is
- 1:47Speaker 2: which is you know, remarkable.
- 1:50Speaker 3: A lot of the last couple of days.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I've said that basically since two thousand nine yesterday when
- 1:55Speaker 1: I heard.
- 1:56Speaker 4: The show.
- 2:00Speaker 3: When the World's Series a couple of weeks after it
- 2:02Speaker 3: started the show, then you had the Giants and eleven twelve.
- 2:06Speaker 1: But then you had all the god the Rangers in
- 2:09Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup, finally had the Mets.
- 2:11Speaker 2: You had the Devil's in the Stanley Cup Final.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Also Devil's and Stanley Cup Final.
- 2:15Speaker 1: You also had well, you had the Yankees in twenty four.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I mean there were some almost, but of all the
- 2:23Speaker 1: heading into those series, I feel like I'm most commonent
- 2:27Speaker 1: with the Knicks. I wasn't covenant with the Yankees in
- 2:29Speaker 1: twenty four I wasn't covenant really in.
- 2:34Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I know the Mets had a run in the NLCS,
- 2:36Speaker 1: but Kansas City was a really good team that year,
- 2:38Speaker 1: so that was gonna be a tough time.
- 2:39Speaker 2: They were yep, and and then and the Mets had
- 2:41Speaker 2: a great chance to win those games, all those games
- 2:43Speaker 2: from close.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And uh and then the Knick and then the King Rangers.
- 2:47Speaker 3: You know, johnaan Quick was the difference maker that year
- 2:52Speaker 3: for the Kings undoubtedly, so that was their year. But
- 2:56Speaker 3: this year, I feel really comfort.
- 2:57Speaker 1: It's the first time a team has made the NBA
- 3:00Speaker 1: Finals since I've done the show where I feel like
- 3:03Speaker 1: we could actually celebrate it.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'm actually more confident than I am no Onix fan,
- 3:10Speaker 2: and I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't want
- 3:11Speaker 2: to see them win. But but as we always say
- 3:16Speaker 2: on Terminello's take, you will get fair and balanced sports analyzation.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I more confident now than I was at the beginning
- 3:25Speaker 2: of the playoffs. I really am. I think the Knicks
- 3:30Speaker 2: can can win this final. I do, especially if San
- 3:36Speaker 2: Antonio pulls off the upset tomorrow night in Oklahoma. City.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I mean, the San Antonio, don't get me wrong, is
- 3:42Speaker 2: a team of incredible talent, but we saw some signs
- 3:46Speaker 2: of immaturity because they're so young, even last night when
- 3:50Speaker 2: they were way ahead. But so I think that would
- 3:54Speaker 2: be the better opponent for the Knicks. Now that being said,
- 3:57Speaker 2: San Antonio might beat them in five. I don't know.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know, obviously, Victor webin Yama is just an amazing player,
- 4:06Speaker 2: but he has to be consistent in the finals for
- 4:10Speaker 2: for four games. The Knicks chemistry right now is the
- 4:13Speaker 2: best that it's been in twenty five thirty years. They're
- 4:18Speaker 2: playing so well, and they have they have a superstar
- 4:22Speaker 2: in Brunson. And we said Alex, we said it two
- 4:25Speaker 2: years ago he was approaching superstar status. And there's no
- 4:29Speaker 2: doubt he's as good as any point guard in the
- 4:31Speaker 2: league offensively, and he's their key guy. So I think
- 4:38Speaker 2: that they I think they'll have a chance.
- 4:41Speaker 3: It's it's okay, see, we learned last night alone. We
- 4:46Speaker 3: learned last night alone. As to be held back a
- 4:49Speaker 3: little bit, I mean only at twelve, well, I.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Was looking, I was analyzing, okay, see, in a couple
- 4:55Speaker 2: of different ways. They crushed the Suns they they boat
- 5:00Speaker 2: race the Suns and the Lakers, and they didn't have
- 5:08Speaker 2: they didn't have Jalen Williams, their second best player. He
- 5:11Speaker 2: played eleven minutes last night. I don't know what his
- 5:13Speaker 2: hamstring status is for the finals or for tomorrow night.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But and Shaye Gilgas Alexander, it's only he gets thirty
- 5:24Speaker 2: nine percent during the playoffs and there's still there's still
- 5:29Speaker 2: one game away from getting back to back to back finals.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So what does that mean? Does that mean they're better?
- 5:37Speaker 2: Oklahoma City is better than we all thought. They don't
- 5:40Speaker 2: then they don't need not that they don't need, don't
- 5:42Speaker 2: get me wrong. They don't have to depend on Alexander
- 5:48Speaker 2: Gilds Alexander all the time. You know, they get contributions
- 5:52Speaker 2: from other areas. And we know that Gilgas Alexander is
- 5:56Speaker 2: going to shoot better. Is it going to be in
- 5:58Speaker 2: the finals. If it's in the finals, the Knicks are
- 6:01Speaker 2: in huge trouble. I don't think they could beat them
- 6:02Speaker 2: for out as seven. But sometimes you're seeing it. I mean,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I saw Jerry, the Great Jerry West, who was a
- 6:08Speaker 2: great postseason player, have uh go through a shooting slump.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Uh in in the NBA playoffs. So you don't know,
- 6:19Speaker 2: but the Knicks are playing with great confidence and if
- 6:22Speaker 2: and if by playing teams that weren't great in the
- 6:24Speaker 2: Eastern Conference playoffs, if that gave them confidence, greats, that's
- 6:28Speaker 2: great for the Knicks and they they should run with that.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So it's I think it's gonna be a very interesting series.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Whoever the Knicks play, it will be an interesting series.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Whether they play San Antonio, which I would face, I
- 6:42Speaker 2: would favor the Knicks. If they play Oklahoma City, I
- 6:46Speaker 2: would favor Oklahoma City, but Alex not as much as
- 6:50Speaker 2: we talked about even three weeks ago. I think it's
- 6:52Speaker 2: gonna be It's gonna be close. And we even said
- 6:55Speaker 2: three weeks ago that the two weeks ago that we
- 6:57Speaker 2: thought the Knicks would give Oklahoma City, you know, a
- 7:02Speaker 2: real run, and I think they will. So it's gonna
- 7:07Speaker 2: be for for the NBA has a little intrigue, uh
- 7:11Speaker 2: for tomorrow night and for next week, which is a
- 7:13Speaker 2: good thing as far as the league goes, and then
- 7:16Speaker 2: it should be very proud of what they did. It's
- 7:19Speaker 2: hard to win eleven straight playoff games in two thousand
- 7:22Speaker 2: and three, the next one ten straight playoff games. Yes,
- 7:25Speaker 2: we won them against better teams than the next day,
- 7:26Speaker 2: but that's neither year are there. It's tough to win
- 7:29Speaker 2: eleven straight playoff games. So it's gonna I'm looking forward
- 7:34Speaker 2: to it. I'm looking forward to the font the to
- 7:36Speaker 2: the NBA Finals for the first time and then in
- 7:39Speaker 2: a while.
- 7:39Speaker 1: So WHI would be fun to turn around this team
- 7:42Speaker 1: because when they were down to one, they had that awful.
- 7:45Speaker 3: I would almost have a stadium, you know, bloat.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Choke of a game against the Hawks that we got.
- 7:53Speaker 1: But he held his team study and now they're in
- 7:55Speaker 1: the finals.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He said to them, Well, I mean, obviously, uh, they
- 8:03Speaker 2: he's more and I hate to say it, he has
- 8:05Speaker 2: more of a rapport with his players than Thibodeau had.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I don't I'm not knocking Thibeau, you know, I mean,
- 8:15Speaker 2: it just happened that they, uh that that they lost.
- 8:19Speaker 2: But obviously Mike Brown, his temp maybe his temperament. The
- 8:25Speaker 2: players relate to him more, you know. And Uh, it's working.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Whatever it is, Alex, it's working. Whatever he's doing in
- 8:32Speaker 2: the locker room, whether he's however, he's soothing their egos, however,
- 8:36Speaker 2: he's soothing their psychees. However, he's building their confidence. It's working.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I mean even the kel Bridges, who was basically three
- 8:45Speaker 2: weeks ago, how could we have given up all those
- 8:47Speaker 2: draft picks to now? Okay, he's playing great. And remember Alex,
- 8:52Speaker 2: if they win the championship, nobody gives a shit about
- 8:56Speaker 2: those of five number one draft picks. No by it
- 9:00Speaker 2: gives a crap. So you know, and uh, he's playing
- 9:05Speaker 2: he's playing great. So he's been What what Brown has
- 9:10Speaker 2: done has been able to bring the team together. He
- 9:13Speaker 2: has There's no doubt about it. They could have collapsed
- 9:15Speaker 2: after losing those two one to point games to Atlanta.
- 9:18Speaker 2: We never thought they were gonna lose the series. But
- 9:20Speaker 2: if they did, right now with Mike Brown could have
- 9:23Speaker 2: been fired. Uh. You know, the Knicks could be talking
- 9:26Speaker 2: to other teams about breaking up the team. They could
- 9:29Speaker 2: be made. They could have been talking to Milwaukee and
- 9:31Speaker 2: making them. And I think the big mistake, whether whoever
- 9:34Speaker 2: gets them, whether it's uh whoever gets them, of bringing
- 9:38Speaker 2: in a nettakoupo in so uh obviously, if the Knicks
- 9:45Speaker 2: that Knicks are in the finals, I don't think the
- 9:47Speaker 2: team is being broken up. And if they win the finals,
- 9:49Speaker 2: the team's not being broken up, so I think it
- 9:53Speaker 2: will be very interesting.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Louis, I gotta ask you this.
- 9:58Speaker 1: The Culbridge just though that that was a point him
- 10:01Speaker 1: having months of games after his disappearance. The first couple
- 10:06Speaker 1: of games, they want a turnaround for him.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well for sure. Yeah no, then well I'm sorry.
- 10:17Speaker 3: No, Well she has this plays out. Obviously the city
- 10:20Speaker 3: is going to be chaotic, so that'll be And.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I noticed so oh yeah, I'm sure the uh bandwagon
- 10:26Speaker 2: jumpers are at an old time high. People who don't
- 10:29Speaker 2: even know how to spell mix are now telling everybody
- 10:32Speaker 2: their long time Nick fans. But that that happens. That
- 10:35Speaker 2: happens every uh, you know, in every situation, every postseason team.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but that was say it was, you know, unlike
- 10:42Speaker 3: other Warum series runs.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Although the Yankees have the city encapsulated it in the
- 10:47Speaker 1: two in the nineties, but I don't know when the
- 10:50Speaker 1: Knicks do something big, it's like the whole city differences
- 10:54Speaker 1: of preside whether you like the metsa Yankees.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Oh I I I I agree with you. I agree
- 10:59Speaker 2: with you on that. Let's face it, When when the
- 11:06Speaker 2: Yankees are in it, met fans don't want them to win.
- 11:10Speaker 2: When the Islanders are in it range of fans don't
- 11:11Speaker 2: want them to win, vice versa. I really think, and
- 11:14Speaker 2: you know, I was with the Nets for twenty eight years.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I don't think that that difference. I was with a
- 11:20Speaker 2: bunch of Net fans last week. They don't want to
- 11:21Speaker 2: see the next one. Guys I used to work with,
- 11:24Speaker 2: and guys I knew. But the uh, the difference isn't.
- 11:32Speaker 2: It isn't. That isn't white at all. It's when the
- 11:35Speaker 2: Knicks are going like they're going now, yeah, it's it's
- 11:40Speaker 2: everybody wants to see the next one. That everybody wants
- 11:42Speaker 2: to the next one. I can't disagree with that at
- 11:45Speaker 2: this at this stage in time, here in twenty twenty six,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I agree with you.
- 11:50Speaker 1: He Lou, I gotta ask you this, like you Cheryl
- 11:56Speaker 1: wants to bring the Nets back to New Jersey. Is
- 11:58Speaker 1: that a possibility in that.
- 12:00Speaker 2: No, that's an impossibility. In the impot it shows you
- 12:04Speaker 2: how clueless this clueless governor we have is. That's just
- 12:09Speaker 2: that's not even worth talking about.
- 12:11Speaker 3: That's never happened. To get your take on that, but uh,
- 12:14Speaker 3: it was just a random story that popped up amidst
- 12:17Speaker 3: all this.
- 12:17Speaker 4: All right, Louie.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Well, we'll see what happens game seven. My joke is,
- 12:21Speaker 1: whoever wins Tomorrow night, they'll still be Mayhem on seven Avenue,
- 12:25Speaker 1: cursing out that team that wins.
- 12:27Speaker 3: You watch, there's gonna be chaos tomorre night, no matter.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Well, the good thing is that even though tomorrow it's
- 12:35Speaker 2: gone to seven games, the winner has three days off,
- 12:39Speaker 2: so no team can complain, Oh, they rushed us into
- 12:43Speaker 2: the next series three days the Oklahoma City or San
- 12:48Speaker 2: Antonio winner, whoever wins the monit it's gonna have three
- 12:50Speaker 2: days off. Unless one of the key guys gets hurt
- 12:53Speaker 2: Tomorrow night, they won't be they won't be fatigued when
- 12:59Speaker 2: they play the Knickson game on on on Day night.
- 13:04Speaker 3: You know they had.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Adrenaline going into that three quarters where they beat up
- 13:09Speaker 1: on the Knicks. I'm talking about the Cavaliers, but I
- 13:12Speaker 1: don't know if the team player role in their collapse.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I guess it could have because they did play well.
- 13:16Speaker 2: We'll get to the We'll get to the Cavaliers real quick.
- 13:18Speaker 2: But I said Thursday night, I think it's Wednesday night.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Game one is Wednesday night on on ABC Wednesday, not
- 13:25Speaker 2: Thursday Night. The Cavaliers should be ashamed of themselves. They
- 13:29Speaker 2: really should and that and uh, you know, to get
- 13:33Speaker 2: steamrolled like they were steamrolled, Alex, Uh is embarrassing. They
- 13:42Speaker 2: I can't believe Kenny Atkinson is uh didn't get fired.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Their players should be ashamed themselves. They actually they did
- 13:52Speaker 2: the worst thing the team could do, Alex. They gave
- 13:54Speaker 2: up and Uh, the Knicks pounded them, and they Knicks
- 14:02Speaker 2: did what they had to do. They pounded them and
- 14:04Speaker 2: there was no pushback, none at all, and it was bad.
- 14:10Speaker 2: It was a bad look for the Cavaliers, who, you know,
- 14:12Speaker 2: if they've had good regular seasons, but we know about
- 14:15Speaker 2: regular seasons and how useless they could be at times.
- 14:20Speaker 2: But the performance by the Cavaliers those four games are
- 14:23Speaker 2: one of the all kid embarrassments in the NBA. And
- 14:25Speaker 2: Kenny Atkinson, who was saying that that they we were
- 14:28Speaker 2: winning the series analytically, what did you say that meaning
- 14:35Speaker 2: that or did you say that to kind of slap
- 14:40Speaker 2: the Cleveland Cavaliers analytics team and say, hey, who cares
- 14:43Speaker 2: about analytics? I don't know where he was going with it,
- 14:46Speaker 2: but if you watched any of Kenny Atkinson's postgame press conferences,
- 14:50Speaker 2: from Game one when he was the reason that they
- 14:54Speaker 2: blew that twenty two point league. He as the coach,
- 14:56Speaker 2: need to get him over to finish line. He did
- 14:58Speaker 2: nothing to help his team. And then those other press conferences.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I can't believe that the Cavaliers have said, oh, he's
- 15:06Speaker 2: back next year. Kenny Atkinson, who had the shine has
- 15:09Speaker 2: come off. Kenny Atkinson in my as far as him
- 15:14Speaker 2: being a good coach, to me, Kenny Atkinson is an
- 15:18Speaker 2: overrated coach, and he asked he would have he asked
- 15:20Speaker 2: to win me back. As as as an NBA watcher
- 15:24Speaker 2: and observe he.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Actually thinks they're analytically up three to one right now.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I mean yeah, right, I mean, well, what does that do?
- 15:30Speaker 2: What does that do? That's that's crazy.
- 15:33Speaker 1: That's like saying Yankees won the World Series because Nester
- 15:36Speaker 1: Cortez was.
- 15:37Speaker 3: A better matchup for Freeman.
- 15:39Speaker 2: That's right.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yes, you know, I mentioned that because I did find
- 15:44Speaker 1: an interesting The last time in the year team did
- 15:47Speaker 1: go to a World Series was through Cleveland. In fact,
- 15:50Speaker 1: the Yankees a year and a half ago went through
- 15:53Speaker 1: Cleveland to beat them almost the same way actually as
- 15:56Speaker 1: the as the very interesting parallel. So we'll see, but
- 16:00Speaker 1: this might yield a different result, you know. And by
- 16:02Speaker 1: the way, who would love that NBA Cup rematch?
- 16:05Speaker 3: They loved that?
- 16:07Speaker 2: Oh that's right, yes, then that's the Nickson san Antonio
- 16:10Speaker 2: played the NBA the NBA Cup Final. I forgot about that.
- 16:15Speaker 3: We'll have all right.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I want to give something more serious because just a
- 16:20Speaker 1: few days after carrying the torch in the game three
- 16:23Speaker 1: for Montreal club, you who you know has been this
- 16:28Speaker 1: loss affects New Jersey because of his devil's years and
- 16:32Speaker 1: all that. I mean eight what a sad situation, a
- 16:36Speaker 1: shocking shockings.
- 16:39Speaker 2: No, it's a very sad situation. And I was watching
- 16:42Speaker 2: Monday night when he carried out the torch. You know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: Canadian tradition for the playoffs and iconic Canadian carries the
- 16:50Speaker 2: torch out. They've been you know, that's been a long
- 16:53Speaker 2: time a theme for Montreal in their locker room, and
- 16:56Speaker 2: I think inside their uniform collars the quote, you know, to.
- 17:01Speaker 4: To to you.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Failing hands, we throw with a torch, be yours to
- 17:07Speaker 2: hold it on high. And uh, you know, he carried
- 17:13Speaker 2: it out on Monday night and on Thursday he was gone,
- 17:18Speaker 2: and it's very sad. He is a four time Stanley
- 17:22Speaker 2: Cup champion. He was one of the toughest guys in
- 17:24Speaker 2: NHL history. He was one of the best clutch players
- 17:27Speaker 2: in NHL history. Yes, he's gone. He went over the
- 17:30Speaker 2: line many many times. There's I mean, obviously the rivalry
- 17:36Speaker 2: with the Red Wings, the Chris Draper incident where Lemieux
- 17:41Speaker 2: checked him from behind and Draper's face basically was broken.
- 17:47Speaker 2: He needed reconstructed surgery and on his face, eye socket,
- 17:50Speaker 2: cheek bone. It was terrible. But this this guy was
- 17:54Speaker 2: a great player. I mean, he scored eighty playoff goals.
- 17:58Speaker 2: He had one hundred and fifty eight points in the playoffs.
- 18:02Speaker 2: He scored three hundred and seventy nine regular season goals.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I was in the building the night that the Devils
- 18:07Speaker 2: won their first Cup and he got the con smythe
- 18:09Speaker 2: trophy heish in nineteen ninety five. He's one of those guys,
- 18:15Speaker 2: the classic guys. You know situation. Uh, if he's on
- 18:19Speaker 2: your team, you loved him. If he was on any
- 18:21Speaker 2: not on your team, you hated him. But uh, he
- 18:25Speaker 2: was truly truly an excellent player, even though he crossed
- 18:30Speaker 2: the line many times. And it's really sad what happened. Uh,
- 18:36Speaker 2: you know he won and Alex he won four Stanley
- 18:38Speaker 2: Cups with with three different teams.
- 18:42Speaker 3: That's pretty remarkable. And now he was not related to
- 18:46Speaker 3: the Lemieux that we all know, Mario, right, I mean.
- 18:49Speaker 2: No, he was not related to mew to Mario Lemieux. Uh.
- 18:53Speaker 2: He had a son, Brandon, who played in the NHL
- 18:55Speaker 2: for a while. Yeah.
- 18:59Speaker 4: And but.
- 19:03Speaker 2: His first clutch moment and I think I think it
- 19:05Speaker 2: was his rookie year. If it wasn't his rookie as
- 19:10Speaker 2: his second year, in a Game seven against the Heartred Whalers,
- 19:16Speaker 2: he scored a goal in overtime twins that in nineteen
- 19:23Speaker 2: eighty six, with a rookie goaltender Patrick Waugh, the Canadians
- 19:27Speaker 2: won the Stanley Cup beating beating Calgary. And he was
- 19:32Speaker 2: a you know, a tremendous player. I mean, there's nothing there.
- 19:36Speaker 2: It's nothing h more you can say the Devils. He
- 19:41Speaker 2: played for the Devils. He went to Colorado, he won
- 19:44Speaker 2: the Cup there, then he came back to the Devils.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Mister Lamarello were reacquired. Because he knew how important he
- 19:51Speaker 2: was in those clutch games. He was a key part
- 19:54Speaker 2: in the Devil's success.
- 19:56Speaker 4: He was.
- 19:57Speaker 2: He was a tremendous player, and when when the game
- 20:00Speaker 2: got tougher, so did he.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Well, let's stay with that series overall.
- 20:05Speaker 1: And and I'm sure little Morella has devastated about this too,
- 20:10Speaker 1: but let's let's stay with that series.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I guess the Hurricanes are three to one. I mean, look,
- 20:14Speaker 3: the Canadians have showed fight.
- 20:17Speaker 2: They they have now. The thing is, you know, you
- 20:21Speaker 2: see how Carolina plays now. Really the last three games
- 20:25Speaker 2: they have smothered. They have been structured, and they have
- 20:29Speaker 2: checked at for checked the Canadians into the ground. The Canadians,
- 20:35Speaker 2: you know, they had twelve shots in Game three, they
- 20:39Speaker 2: had thirteen shots in in game well in game two,
- 20:43Speaker 2: in game three they had thirteen shots. Then in Game
- 20:47Speaker 2: four they had no shots in the third period until
- 20:49Speaker 2: two and a half minutes to go. But still in
- 20:52Speaker 2: games two and three, even though Carolina smulled into overtime,
- 20:57Speaker 2: So once you get to overtime, Montreal just needed one
- 21:01Speaker 2: that one goal to have a series tied. Now or
- 21:04Speaker 2: even if they got really really lucky, they could have
- 21:06Speaker 2: been up three to one, but Carolina game in Montreal
- 21:11Speaker 2: the other night could be the death knell for the
- 21:14Speaker 2: Canadians this season. They're playing tonight, I expect Carolina to
- 21:19Speaker 2: close them out. But who knows the fact that Montreal
- 21:24Speaker 2: is two and six at home with the kind of
- 21:27Speaker 2: crowd support they have is a head scratcher, Alex. It
- 21:30Speaker 2: really is.
- 21:32Speaker 3: A shame because the Canadians look like they're on the
- 21:36Speaker 3: up and up. And I would have won of them,
- 21:38Speaker 3: see up ending of Carolina. That would have been fasting.
- 21:41Speaker 2: No, and even if they lose tonight, the Canadians are
- 21:44Speaker 2: still a team on the rise. They are going to
- 21:46Speaker 2: be They are going to be a power next year,
- 21:49Speaker 2: no doubt about it. I know I said this last
- 21:53Speaker 2: round against Buffalo in Game seven, I thought you might
- 21:56Speaker 2: see Brendan Gallagher inserted in the I think he's only
- 22:00Speaker 2: played three playoff games. I really would be surprised if
- 22:03Speaker 2: you don't see Brendan Gallagher in the lineup tonight. I
- 22:06Speaker 2: don't know why he hasn't played more than three games. Yes,
- 22:09Speaker 2: I know the Canadians have tremendous young forwards. Brendan Gallagher,
- 22:14Speaker 2: I mean he Brendan Galla has a little claudeally New
- 22:17Speaker 2: in him. Nowhere near Claudal New, but a little bit
- 22:21Speaker 2: of that spiciness that.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Jam always as well in this for that team. All right, Yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 1: I want to get to the other side because we
- 22:29Speaker 1: called it here at Terminalo's taking one look a ballots
- 22:32Speaker 1: that Vegas could be a team up in the ABS,
- 22:36Speaker 1: and they actually, I mean, I'm sorry. I know McKinnon
- 22:39Speaker 1: was hurt, I know kill mccar was hurt, but the
- 22:41Speaker 1: sweep is still surprised.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and and McKinnon got hurt, uh, you know, laid
- 22:46Speaker 2: in game three when uh uh it looked like Colorado
- 22:51Speaker 2: was done. So it's not that that that he missed
- 22:55Speaker 2: the whole series, losing mccarf the first two games. You know,
- 22:58Speaker 2: arguably the best defenseman in the world obviously plays a factor.
- 23:03Speaker 2: But Vegas. Vegas played disciplined. They dictate the pace of play,
- 23:12Speaker 2: They dictated the style that they that they wanted to play.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Never Vegas never let up and let Colorado adjust to
- 23:24Speaker 2: Vegas out of their style. That's why Colorado and scored
- 23:27Speaker 2: seven goals in four games. You know, a couple of
- 23:30Speaker 2: things here Tortorella. I mean, he's only he doesn't have
- 23:34Speaker 2: a contract for next year and he's doing what he
- 23:38Speaker 2: does best. Nineteen four and one with him including regular
- 23:41Speaker 2: season and playoffs. He only has an interim contract through
- 23:44Speaker 2: the end of the finals. But you know, Tortorella, we've
- 23:48Speaker 2: seen in the past short term success is great. When
- 23:51Speaker 2: he's there a long time, that's when he starts wearing
- 23:54Speaker 2: out on lift the team.
- 23:57Speaker 3: But let's think about this for a second.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Yes, sir, oh b the way we go.
- 24:15Speaker 1: But you know the poetic thing about this is do
- 24:19Speaker 1: you think Larry Brooks is supporting his friend John Trella
- 24:23Speaker 1: from above?
- 24:24Speaker 3: I mean amazing.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Well, they had some knockdowns ragout of fights. You remember that.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Too, and I wonder if, like you know, the spirit
- 24:33Speaker 1: of Larry didn't carry it because you know, Golden Knights
- 24:36Speaker 1: were not supposed to be this far to the Sanley
- 24:38Speaker 1: Cup Finals.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Alex, the Islanders had a better record than them, and
- 24:42Speaker 2: they didn't make the playoffs. The Islanders won forty two
- 24:44Speaker 2: games and the Golden Knights only won thirty nine.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Amazing. But no, I think it's amazing the year or
- 24:52Speaker 3: morning Brooksy Towrderella. It's amazing how life works that way.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, So that that's a story line. There's other
- 25:01Speaker 2: The Tortorella storyline for the finals is paramount. The Mitch
- 25:06Speaker 2: Maner storyline we talked a little bit about last week.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I mean, as complete a hockey players as you want.
- 25:13Speaker 2: He leads the NHL playoff scorers. He's on his way
- 25:18Speaker 2: to possibly winning the con smythe Trophy a year after
- 25:21Speaker 2: getting run out of Toronto by the fans and by
- 25:24Speaker 2: the Toronto media, which we know both of them are relentless.
- 25:29Speaker 2: So this could be a great achievement if Marner finishes
- 25:36Speaker 2: it off, even if he just wins the cup. Jack Eichel,
- 25:39Speaker 2: I mean he's playing great. I mean, you know, we
- 25:41Speaker 2: talk about and we know we can score, and he's
- 25:43Speaker 2: and I believe he might be the second leading scorer
- 25:45Speaker 2: in the playoffs. I know only has a couple of goals,
- 25:48Speaker 2: but he has like fifteen or sixteen assists, and he
- 25:50Speaker 2: plays a great defensive game. Underrated defensively. And then the
- 25:54Speaker 2: other storyline is Carter Hart, the goaltender. They were having
- 26:00Speaker 2: goldtender Raginals of all year. Carter Hart didn't sign with
- 26:02Speaker 2: them because of the situation where him and four of
- 26:07Speaker 2: his teammates in the twenty seventeen eighteen World Junior Championships
- 26:14Speaker 2: with that sexual assault case. All the players were indicted,
- 26:18Speaker 2: but Carter Hart is playing just outstanding goal goaltending for Vegas.
- 26:26Speaker 2: He my trophy it is. It's an amazing three prong storyline. Tortorella,
- 26:35Speaker 2: Mitch Marner, Carter Hart and Vegas, who really was in
- 26:40Speaker 2: a weak Pacific Division poo poohed through the way through
- 26:44Speaker 2: the season and now is within four games of winning
- 26:46Speaker 2: the Stanley Cup doing something I did not think possible,
- 26:50Speaker 2: sweeping the Colorado Avalanche, the highest scoring team in the
- 26:53Speaker 2: NHL this year, the winning his team from day one,
- 26:56Speaker 2: and they're going home and not a good not a
- 27:02Speaker 2: good ending from Nathan McKinnon, a great player who obviously
- 27:06Speaker 2: disappointed didn't win the gold medal in in Milan, and uh,
- 27:10Speaker 2: I thought he was gonna get his uh a little
- 27:13Speaker 2: statisfied by winning the Cup. But they didn't flame out.
- 27:16Speaker 2: They were they were really uh totally choke choked off
- 27:21Speaker 2: to the end and they're done so but they'll still
- 27:26Speaker 2: be a contender next year. They will be contender next
- 27:29Speaker 2: year to win the Cup. So we'll we'll see what happens.
- 27:34Speaker 2: But uh they if it's if it's Vegas and cal
- 27:38Speaker 2: uh Carolina, it's gonna be it'll be an interesting matchup.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Well, I'll met the train station.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Now on the way to the Games for the physically challenged.
- 27:46Speaker 5: I don't really care about baseball right now, that's not
- 27:48Speaker 5: bad line to me. I don't know what else you've
- 27:51Speaker 5: got going on, but I'm not the way to the
- 27:53Speaker 5: Games for the physically challenged. And you know about this company,
- 27:56Speaker 5: this organization very well, and the fact that the that's
- 28:00Speaker 5: I kind of came in to rescue the game. So
- 28:02Speaker 5: they get forty years. I'm gonna for thirty. So I
- 28:06Speaker 5: feel kind of old today, Louis.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yeah, no, you're still young. Yes, I'm old. You're young,
- 28:11Speaker 2: my my, my friend. Well, enjoy the enjoy the evening.
- 28:15Speaker 2: It's a beautiful evening for the games.
- 28:17Speaker 6: And before we sign off for this edition, I'm sorry
- 28:25Speaker 6: Alex for any party words you got tonight, any party words.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Let's see, Uh, let's see what's going on? Well, uh yeah, nothing.
- 28:42Speaker 5: So in Roland Garrison, we've got Jocovic and center down
- 28:46Speaker 5: Opera is already out because of injury.
- 28:48Speaker 3: This is a very different French Open than we were.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Louis, Well, it's funny. Everybody said, uh Sin, it's you know,
- 28:56Speaker 2: it's wide open for Cinner and then he lost yesterday,
- 28:59Speaker 2: so I said, okay, it's why open for Djokovic to
- 29:03Speaker 2: win another another major, and he got knocked out today.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It's very very very unusual French Open, to be sure,
- 29:10Speaker 2: very unusual major that. You know, we don't even finish
- 29:13Speaker 2: week one and the only top seed that's still around
- 29:17Speaker 2: is number two seed. So uh uh yeah, and uh
- 29:23Speaker 2: I think I think both Sinner and uh Djokovic lost
- 29:27Speaker 2: great opportunities to add to their ed, to their trophy case.
- 29:35Speaker 2: So but that that's a big that's a big deal, Alex.
- 29:38Speaker 2: You are correct, it is.
- 29:40Speaker 1: He was on the burge getting twenty five slam, so
- 29:43Speaker 1: maybe I'll get it at Arthur Ash.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I don't know yet. We are going in September, so
- 29:47Speaker 3: that'll be very interesting to see who's in there at
- 29:49Speaker 3: the quarter final. That's where we're going. But let's see.
- 29:52Speaker 1: We're being a friend of mine and I now, this
- 29:55Speaker 1: is what makes it a doll amazing because he mastered
- 29:58Speaker 1: that court like that.
- 30:00Speaker 3: It's his play court.
- 30:01Speaker 2: You know, he was the king of play.
- 30:06Speaker 4: All right, Well, Louis, this has.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Been great and I'm on the way to Long Island,
- 30:10Speaker 3: so I'll talk to soon.
- 30:11Speaker 1: But thanks for catching up with us at.
- 30:13Speaker 4: One log of alex Media today, Alex, thank you so much.
- 30:16Speaker 2: I appreciate it
- 30:20Speaker 3: And
