Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
• 0:05
Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
• 0:09
and it's Thursday, March 5th. You'll be interested
• 0:13
to know. 80 years ago, today, in 1946, Winston
• 0:19
Churchill delivered his famous Iron Curtain speech
• 0:22
in Fulton, Missouri, calling for Anglo -American
• 0:25
leadership to defend democratic values and to
• 0:29
recognize a shifting post -war order. His clear
• 0:33
appeal for unity helped shape public understanding
• 0:35
of a new geopolitical divide and inspired cooperative
• 0:39
strategies that guided Western policy in the
• 0:42
decades that followed. So now you know. And now
• 0:47
it's time for the weather report. This morning,
• 0:53
it's areas of freezing fog. and it feels like
• 0:56
25 degrees with 5 mile per hour wind. The sunset
• 1:01
will take place at 538 and it will rise again
• 1:04
tomorrow at 607. It looks like grin for some
• 1:08
freezing fog early, followed by areas of fog
• 1:12
and a chance of rain this afternoon, with a high
• 1:15
near 37 and a light north breeze gusting up to
• 1:19
  25. Tonight. Rain and sleet are likely early,
• 1:24
transitioning to cloudy skies with a low around
• 1:27
33 and northeast winds at 14 mile per hour. The
• 1:32
nearshore buoy at Cape Cod Bay reads 34 degrees
• 1:36
for the water temperature. Looking ahead in the
• 1:40
weather. Friday starts wet with rain and snow
• 1:44
before 9 a .m. Then rain and snow likely through
• 1:47
the day with a high near 34. A northeast winds
• 1:51
10 to 15 miles per hour, gusting to 25, and a
• 1:55
dusting of new snow possible. A slight chance
• 1:59
of rain overnight gives way to a much milder
• 2:01
Saturday with mostly cloudy skies and a high
• 2:04
near 52, then a 50 % chance of showers Saturday
• 2:08
night before mostly dry, partly sunny Sunday
• 2:11
near 53, and a warm sunny Monday near 58. Bonjour,
• 2:17
food enthusiasts! This podcast is brought to
• 2:20
you by Versailles Cafe and Pastries in Encinitas.

culinary delights. Indulge in their amazing Eggs

• 2:46
day from 8 to 5. So stop on by and don't forget
• 2:50
to tell them. Sunny mornings send you. In local
• 2:55
news, judges on the state's highest court seemed
• 2:59
unconvinced by Marshfield's challenge to the
• 3:02
MBTA community's zoning law during hearings on
• 3:05
March 4. The law enacted in 2021 aims to promote
• 3:10
multifamily housing across over 170 cities and
• 3:14
towns with MBTA service. Marshfield argues the
• 3:18
law imposes an unfunded mandate, leading to significant
• 3:22
costs for zoning compliance. However, a Superior
• 3:26
Court judge previously ruled that these costs
• 3:29
were indirect, upholding the law's validity.
• 3:33
The STC justices did not provide a timeline for
• 3:36
their decision. but typically decide cases within
• 3:39
130 days. Now on to sports. This season, a narrative
• 3:50
has taken hold in the National Basketball Association.
• 3:54
The Eastern Conference is stronger than expected,
• 3:56
while the Western Conference remains dominant.
• 3:59
Through Monday's games, Western teams hold a
• 4:02
slight edge, with a 50 .6 % win rate against
• 4:05
the East. Four teams from the East are projected
• 4:09
to win over 50 games, suggesting parity in the
• 4:12
league. However, despite the competition, the
• 4:16
West vows more star power and depth, leading
• 4:18
to intriguing playoff matchups ahead. The Eastern
• 4:22
Conference champion will need to earn their final's
• 4:24
  berth, overcoming formidable opponents along
• 4:27
the way. In local sports, Boston faced a tough
• 4:32
night as the Seas fell to the Charlotte Hornets.
• 4:36
118 to 89, halting their win streak at three
• 4:39
games. Derek White led the way with 29 points,
• 4:44
while Jalen Brown contributed 20 points and 11
• 4:47
rebounds. The Hornets, with Kahn Neupel scoring
• 4:50
20 points, extended their win streak to six games
• 4:54
and moved above 500 for the first time since
• 4:57
October 26. Boston struggled with shooting, hitting
• 5:01
only 38 % from the field and connecting on just
• 5:04
10 of 36 from beyond the arc. The Celtics will
• 5:08
live to bounce back as they host Dallas on Friday.
• 5:13
In top news, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim
• 5:18
Cook promised a big week of product announcements,
• 5:21
which included a new budget -friendly iPhone
• 5:23

• 6:14
a defeat for the Trump administration, a federal
• 6:17
judge in New York ruled that companies that paid
• 6:20
tariffs are due refunds. Judge Richard Eaton
• 6:23
of the U .S. Court of International Trade stated
• 6:26
that all importers of record were entitled to
• 6:29
benefit from the Supreme Court ruling that struck
• 6:31
down these tariffs. The federal government could
• 6:35
ultimately be liable for refunds worth $175 billion.
• 6:41
Barry Appleton commented that this ruling is
• 6:43
a great decision for importers and consumers
• 6:46
who paid tariffs. In crypto movement, Bitcoin

February 19th, 2026. And now Artificial Intelligence
• 8:11
has inspired two documentaries that explore its

potential dangers and benefits. The film's defaking

Sam Altman and the AI doc, investigate the technology's

  regarding artificial intelligence's future. As

the debate intensifies, the documentaries offer

unique perspectives on this evolving technology.

And in entertainment news, Apple succeeded when

it brought Formula One to the big screen last

year. It hopes many of those viewers will watch
