- 0:39It's kind of a New Year's.
- 0:40It's July 4th, and actually in New York

- 0:48going to start dropping the ball to celebrate
- 0:51the 250th anniversary.
- 0:53So it's kind of like a New Year's,
- 0:55like two New Year's in one year, anyway.

- 2:29The Fine Grind, a coffee bar where they

- 2:33cool.

- 2:35them, and then I'm going to tell you
- 2:36why we're doing this.
- 2:37Okay.

- 2:54they've dressed up.

- 3:02the charming helper delivers your order to your
- 3:04table smoothly with a touch of what they
- 3:07call futuristic fun.
- 3:09A lot of people tend to like that.
- 3:11They have art exhibits.

- 4:18All right, guys.
- 4:19So that was our Thursday shout-out.
- 4:22So this is Inspirations for Your Life, everyone.
- 4:24And our master top, in case you didn't
- 4:26know this week, is how to let go
- 4:29and level up.
- 4:31It's Series 5.
- 4:32It's Show 27.
- 4:33And today's episode is how to live on
- 4:37purpose and not on autopilot.
- 4:39Series 5, Show 27, Episode 6.
- 4:43And the theme is intentional living versus default
- 4:47living.
- 4:47I think a lot of people do default
- 4:49living because it's so simple, it's so easy,
- 4:51and they feel they don't have to do
- 4:53anything.
- 4:53So welcome, everyone, to the Inspirations for Your
- 4:55Life show.
- 4:56I am John C.
- 4:58Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 5:00Yes.
- 5:01I'm an engineer, marketing specialist, video producer, podcast
- 5:04host, coach, keynote speaker, a graduate student at
- 5:09Montclair State University, passionate lifelong learner, and so
- 5:13grateful now to be a published author.
- 5:16Today, focusing on a shift that quietly changes
- 5:19everything in our lives, moving from autopilot living
- 5:23to what I call intentional living.
- 5:26Now, because most people are not designing their
- 5:29lives, they are repeating them.
- 5:31This can be a little challenging for some
- 5:34people.
- 5:34Now, the core message is this.
- 5:36Autopilot creates repetition without awareness.
- 5:40Purpose creates repetition with a sense of direction.
- 5:43When you live without intention, your days are
- 5:46shaped by convenience, distraction, and habit.
- 5:50When you live with purpose, your days are
- 5:54shaped by meaning, contribution, and alignment.
- 5:58A little bit different, right, guys?
- 5:59So purpose is not abstract.
- 6:01It is practical.
- 6:02It is daily.
- 6:04It is actionable.
- 6:06Yes, it's not something you just flick.
- 6:09And I have some insights that I want
- 6:11to share with you to help make your
- 6:13days more about purpose.
- 6:15Number one, purpose is using your strengths on
- 6:19real problems.
- 6:20Meaning comes from application.
- 6:23I think a lot of people miss that
- 6:25it is about application.
- 6:28Number two, stop living by default and start
- 6:32living by design.
- 6:34You see, awareness creates control.
- 6:37The more that we can get in touch
- 6:40with awareness in our life, the more that
- 6:43we can have a better life, the more
- 6:44that it can be more purposeful, the more
- 6:46that it can slow down because we can
- 6:48enjoy the precious moments in our life.
- 6:53So it is important to stop living by
- 6:55default and become more aware of our awareness
- 6:59that we possess.
- 7:00Number three, guys, ask who gets better because
- 7:05you exist.
- 7:07Impact defines purpose.
- 7:09And sometimes that can be very confusing, but
- 7:14it can also be a breath of fresh
- 7:15air once we understand what purpose is, how
- 7:18it works, and how it can literally transform
- 7:22our lives like that.
- 7:25Number four, align your day with the answer
- 7:29you have.
- 7:30Structure creates direction.
- 7:33Don't be in a rush to get the
- 7:34answer.
- 7:35Put it together with alignment, and you'll start
- 7:38to get these nudges.
- 7:40You'll start to get interesting inspirations that will
- 7:42either give you the answer or will lead
- 7:44you toward it.
- 7:45Number five, your experience is a niche you
- 7:49should use.
- 7:50Your past has utility.
- 7:54Number six, you do not need a huge
- 7:56mission to matter.
- 7:58Consistency creates impact every single day.
- 8:01But some people feel that they're not valuable,
- 8:03that they're not worthy.
- 8:04And I think that's a sad thing.
- 8:07But if we can understand that we have
- 8:09so much value, we have so much purpose,
- 8:11our life can be amazing.
- 8:13Our life can be really amazing.
- 8:15And it can help us understand where we're
- 8:19going, why we're going somewhere, and what it's
- 8:22all about.
- 8:23Number seven, guys, purpose can be local.
- 8:28It can be simple.
- 8:29Most importantly, it can be powerful.
- 8:32Scale is not required for meaning.
- 8:36You don't have to get bigger for it
- 8:38to mean something or be valuable to you
- 8:40or someone else.
- 8:41We can have meaning in just saying thank
- 8:44you to someone or holding the door for
- 8:45someone or doing something nice for one person.
- 8:49It doesn't have to be in scale.
- 8:51Number eight, guys, focus on what matters most,
- 8:55not what is the loudest.
- 8:56See, noise is not priority, although many people
- 9:00think it is.
- 9:01It's not.
- 9:02And this becomes one of these big distractors
- 9:05in life that keep us from the real
- 9:08goal that we want to achieve.
- 9:13And it's important to understand that.
- 9:16And so the thing is, most people don't
- 9:22get it, and they don't understand it.
- 9:34And I can tell you that when we
- 9:37are on purpose, when we get aligned, things
- 9:42just click for us.
- 9:44Number nine, say yes only to what aligns
- 9:48with your purpose and direction.
- 9:49Don't be manipulated, feeling you have to say
- 9:52yes.
- 9:54You don't.
- 9:55Every yes, guys, is a tradeoff.
- 9:58When you say yes to someone else, you're
- 10:00saying no to yourself sometimes.
- 10:02So be careful of that.
- 10:03When you say no to others, you're mostly
- 10:07saying yes to yourself because you're giving yourself
- 10:08that time and that understanding.
- 10:10I think that's a very important thing.
- 10:12And most people miss the fact that, you
- 10:14know, oh, I have to say yes, that
- 10:16you don't have to say yes.
- 10:18You have to do what feels right for
- 10:21you.
- 10:22Number 10, your calendar should reflect your values,
- 10:26not others.
- 10:27Time reveals identity.
- 10:29And if you think you're going to reveal
- 10:31it overnight, you're going to be mistaken and
- 10:34you're going to get the wrong answers.
- 10:36And that's probably one of the biggest things
- 10:37I can say to everyone here is that
- 10:40it's going to come through in a way
- 10:42that is going to be so bad because
- 10:48it's going to take you off of your
- 10:51purpose, going to take you off of your
- 10:52mission.
- 10:54I think that's an important thing for us
- 10:56to realize.
- 10:57We have to become aware.
- 10:59Number 11, guys, turn your work and content
- 11:03into solutions.
- 11:05Value comes from being useful.
- 11:09Value doesn't come from being deceitful.
- 11:11Value doesn't come from trying to manipulate people.
- 11:14It doesn't come from any of those things.
- 11:17But yet people think it should.
- 11:20And I'm here to tell you, ladies and
- 11:21gentlemen, it doesn't.
- 11:22And that's probably the biggest thing I want
- 11:26to share with you is that so many
- 11:28people change their position because they get manipulated.
- 11:33And that's not good.
- 11:37If the energy for somebody is not good,
- 11:39then you need to move on from that
- 11:40person.
- 11:41That's the lesson hands down.
- 11:43Number 12, impact is more important than impressions.
- 11:53The quality of the cards I get from
- 11:56a busy networking is less important, is more
- 12:00important, I should say, than the quantity.
- 12:03So quality is more important of the cards
- 12:06over the quantity.
- 12:07Impact is more important than the impressions.
- 12:10Depth beats visibility.
- 12:14And I know you might be saying to
- 12:15me, John, I don't know if I agree
- 12:17with that.
- 12:17And that's usually coming out of fear, thinking
- 12:21you have to do something a certain way
- 12:22because somebody is trying to get you off
- 12:25of the path that you're supposed to be
- 12:27on.
- 12:28Number 13, we need to care about depth,
- 12:33not just the reach or the scope.
- 12:37You see, guys, connection matters more than the
- 12:41size.
- 12:43Relationships matter more than the number of them
- 12:45we have.
- 12:47But so many people in our world measure
- 12:50this in a false sense by saying, hey,
- 12:52I could fill a room with 5,000
- 12:53people, great.
- 12:56Are those people you know?
- 12:58Are those valuable connections?
- 13:01Or is it just a let's throw everything
- 13:02on the wall and see what sticks?
- 13:04Most of the time, it's a let's see
- 13:06what sticks.
- 13:08Number 14, guys, use your story to help
- 13:12design better outcomes for others.
- 13:15Experience becomes guidance.
- 13:17And more importantly, guys, your experience becomes guidance.
- 13:22Your own inner knowing or way becomes guidance.
- 13:30When we do something and it doesn't go
- 13:32the way we want and we learn from
- 13:34it, we can adjust, we can pivot, and
- 13:36we can do it again, but we can
- 13:38alter the way we've been.
- 13:40Number 15, guys, empathy is a functional tool,
- 13:45not just emotional.
- 13:47Understanding creates solutions.
- 13:49But too many people don't want to take
- 13:52the time to understand.
- 13:54Are they lazy?
- 13:56Could be.
- 13:57Are they too much of a go-getter
- 14:00that they don't really care about people?
- 14:02That could be another reason.
- 14:03A lot of reasons.
- 14:06Number 16, guys, experiment with ways to serve
- 14:11and keep what works.
- 14:14Iteration always builds clarity.
- 14:16Repetition, mother skill, over and over again.
- 14:19But it's not going to do it like
- 14:21immediately.
- 14:23It's going to take some time for you
- 14:26to find the right way.
- 14:28Number 17, number 17 is all about purpose.
- 14:33As purpose is discovered through action, not thinking
- 14:36alone.
- 14:38Execution reveals meaning.
- 14:40If we think and we never execute, we're
- 14:44never going anywhere.
- 14:45We're just thinking.
- 14:47We have to take those inspired thoughts to
- 14:52take the action or we're just going to
- 14:55be thinking.
- 14:57Number 18, guys, turn frustration into structured improvement.
- 15:02I said you need structure and you need
- 15:04consistency to be successful.
- 15:07Problems are signals or challenges.
- 15:09We have to know how to recognize them
- 15:11and then what do we do with those
- 15:13problems?
- 15:13How do we redirect them?
- 15:15How do we take another path?
- 15:19How do we become a better version of
- 15:22ourselves?
- 15:24And here's the thing, guys, it may not
- 15:26be comfortable.
- 15:27I've said success starts when things get uncomfortable,
- 15:30not when they're comfortable.
- 15:32We have to push ourselves a little bit
- 15:35further and that's sometimes a little bit uncomfortable.
- 15:38It's not painful, but it's a little uncomfortable
- 15:40and many people are fearful of doing it.
- 15:44Number 19, learn how to let creativity respond
- 15:47to real needs.
- 15:50Relevance creates value.
- 15:53Time in and time again, but it takes
- 15:57sincerity, it takes patience, it takes intention, truth,
- 16:04and integrity to build something with relevance that
- 16:09will last, that will last.
- 16:11That's the key.
- 16:13Number 20, guys, practice being useful in small
- 16:19ways daily.
- 16:20It doesn't have to be anything monumental, just
- 16:24some way.
- 16:25It could be something like, you know, getting
- 16:27a cup of coffee for one of your
- 16:28co-workers, holding the door open, or maybe
- 16:32they photograph some things on the copier, a
- 16:38photocopier, and you see it's done so you
- 16:40know who it's from, a department, you see
- 16:42it's done, you bring it back to them.
- 16:44Little things like that.
- 16:48Consistency builds identity.
- 16:51Doing it once does nothing, guys.
- 16:53It does absolutely nothing.
- 16:55But doing it again and again and again,
- 16:57that is what builds the real truth in
- 17:00our lives, and I think it builds truth
- 17:02in other people's lives.
- 17:03I think that's really, I think that's really
- 17:04the important thing.
- 17:10I think the most important thing I can
- 17:12tell you is that when we have a
- 17:19consistent path that's structured, our identity does form,
- 17:25but it doesn't form overnight, okay?
- 17:28That's the most important thing I tell you.
- 17:31And many people get impatient because they're not
- 17:33seeing the identity that they want, like right
- 17:36now, so they take shortcuts.
- 17:39And I want to tell you, don't take
- 17:40shortcuts ever.
- 17:41Number 21, do one thing today that clearly
- 17:45helps someone.
- 17:46Small impact still matters.
- 17:48What else could you do that's small?
- 17:52Maybe it's letting somebody go ahead of you
- 17:54in the line at the supermarket, right?
- 17:58Maybe it's giving somebody else the right-of
- 18:02-way on the highway before their turn.
- 18:08Number 22, you do not need to change
- 18:12the world to make impact.
- 18:14Moments matter, seconds matter, intentions matter.
- 18:20And just making one change and making a
- 18:24difference with one person, guys, that will make
- 18:27a huge difference in your life and other
- 18:29people's lives.
- 18:30But it might not seem like it's going
- 18:32to go that way.
- 18:33But I'm here to tell you that it
- 18:34is.
- 18:35It's just you've got to be patient and
- 18:37you've got to do it with pure intention
- 18:39and integrity.
- 18:41So don't worry about changing the world tomorrow.
- 18:43Worry about helping one person.
- 18:46And that can make the world a much
- 18:49better place.
- 18:50Number 23, purpose gives discipline emotional meaning.
- 18:57Structure needs reason.
- 19:01So when we say structure needs reason, we
- 19:06have to do it for the greater good
- 19:07of all concerned.
- 19:08We have to do it for something that
- 19:10aligns with our core values.
- 19:12If it doesn't, we're going to be very
- 19:15unhappy.
- 19:17Number 24, purpose gives pain context and direction.
- 19:24Struggle becomes insight.
- 19:26And from that output, insight, we can reuse
- 19:31it and become a better person.
- 19:34We can get the tasks done in a
- 19:37better way.
- 19:38Number 25, serving others stabilizes identity over time.
- 19:44Contribution builds clarity.
- 19:47It doesn't have to be a huge contribution.
- 19:49It just has to be something meaningful.
- 19:54Meaningful with intentful purpose.
- 19:57That's a big key.
- 19:59Number 26, guys, life feels lighter when it
- 20:03becomes useful.
- 20:05You ever notice that?
- 20:06Utility reduces confusion.
- 20:09And when we can start to reduce confusion,
- 20:14our head feels lighter, right?
- 20:17We get this relief.
- 20:20Because things are going the way we want.
- 20:25Many people try to make things so darn
- 20:27complicated.
- 20:28And if they just did it in a
- 20:32simpler way, they'd be successful.
- 20:36Number 27, guys, purpose acts as your internal
- 20:40North Star.
- 20:42Direction reduces drift all the time.
- 20:45So we always want to stay focused.
- 20:47We always want to stay on point.
- 20:48We want to make things as, let's say,
- 20:52simple and non-complicated as we can.
- 20:58Number 28, guys, you are allowed to design
- 21:01a meaningful life.
- 21:03Intention is permission.
- 21:05Let's think about that for a moment.
- 21:06Intention is permission.
- 21:08So if intention is permission, then we're getting
- 21:13a yes from ourselves, right?
- 21:15We're getting a yes.
- 21:18Intention is something that we have to think
- 21:21about a moment before we do it, right?
- 21:22We have to think about what does intention
- 21:23mean.
- 21:25But intention is our way of giving permission.
- 21:29Number 29, let go of autopilot and level
- 21:33up into intention.
- 21:35Awareness creates change.
- 21:38But awareness does not do it in five
- 21:41seconds or even in five minutes.
- 21:44It could take a little time.
- 21:46Number 30, this is not a rehearsal.
- 21:50It is your life in motion.
- 21:52Presence defines reality.
- 21:56Presence defines reality.
- 21:58So if presence defines reality, how do we
- 22:01move from there?
- 22:02How do we change?
- 22:03I think the way we change is by,
- 22:06again, having that intention.
- 22:08Having that key.
- 22:10Having that understanding.
- 22:12Having what we're doing align with our core
- 22:14values.
- 22:15And we don't replace our core values every
- 22:17day, right?
- 22:19Our core values are probably with us for
- 22:20a long, long time.
- 22:21And I think that's a very important thing.
- 22:23We want to make sure we choose our
- 22:25core values diligently.
- 22:30Because those core values are probably going to
- 22:31be with us for a good part of
- 22:32our life, if not all of our life.
- 22:36And those will become the tools that help
- 22:39us achieve our success.
- 22:42Before I wrap up tonight, I do want
- 22:44to give that shout out again to this
- 22:47restaurant here in Little Falls, New Jersey.
- 22:49It's called The Fine Grind.
- 22:52They're located in Little Falls, New Jersey.
- 22:56So you guys can check them out.
- 22:58They're located at 101 Newark-Pompton Turnpike, Little
- 23:01Falls, Township, New Jersey, 07424.
- 23:06In case you guys are wondering the hours,
- 23:08it looks like they are open on Monday,
- 23:12Tuesday, Wednesday.
- 23:15They open Thursday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
- 23:20They are open 8 a.m. to 8
- 23:26p.m. I don't see a time for
- 23:29them on Thursday.
- 23:30They are open on Friday.
- 23:32It says they're open on Friday, 8 to
- 23:348 p.m. I do not see a
- 23:37Thursday.
- 23:37I don't know if that means they're not
- 23:39open on Thursday.
- 23:40I don't know.
- 23:42But they're open 8 a.m. to 8
- 23:44p.m. every single day, you know, observing
- 23:47outside of normal holiday hours.
- 23:50So definitely give them a shout out.
- 23:53Let them know that you heard about them
- 23:55on the Inspirations for Your Life show.
- 23:57And we hope that you guys at the
- 24:01venue that we just mentioned, which is The
- 24:02Fine Grind, will reach out to JasonAcademy.com
- 24:05and invite us to do a show right
- 24:09at your facility.
- 24:11Help building community and helping you guys get
- 24:14the word about what you're doing.
- 24:15So in closing today, guys, here is the
- 24:17truth.
- 24:18Are you ready for the truth?
- 24:18I always like the truth.
- 24:20The truth is this.
- 24:21Autopilot is easy, but it's not intentional.
- 24:24Purpose requires awareness.
- 24:27Purpose requires choice.
- 24:30Purpose requires action.
- 24:32And once you start living on purpose, your
- 24:37life stops feeling random.
- 24:42Random.
- 24:44When you don't know where something's going to
- 24:47come from.
- 24:48You don't have any ideas to where your
- 24:51path is going.
- 24:53And when it starts feeling directed, that's the
- 25:00key.
- 25:03Directed with intentionalism and awareness so that you're
- 25:09enjoying every moment.
- 25:11So you're able to smell the beautiful coffees
- 25:14and teas and different food that they have
- 25:16there, right?
- 25:18So that's the most important thing.
- 25:20And, you know, when you think of a
- 25:22coffee shop, for example, what better place to
- 25:25be intentional, to sit down, to take your
- 25:27time, enjoy a cup of coffee, or in
- 25:30my case, I like teas, herbal teas and
- 25:32things like that.
- 25:33And just to sit there and just enjoy.
- 25:38You know, many years ago, they used to
- 25:40have something called the Pasta Java in Europe,
- 25:43and I think they still do it, where
- 25:44you can go outside, they walk in and
- 25:46they have lots of places you can eat
- 25:47outside cafes.
- 25:48They don't really have that in the United
- 25:50States, not that much.
- 25:52But that's a very big thing in Europe,
- 25:54is the outside cafes.
- 25:57That was one of the things I missed
- 25:58when I came back from my trip from
- 26:01Italy that, and other places in Europe that
- 26:03I went, that we don't have that around
- 26:07that much.
- 26:07We have a few places that do it,
- 26:09but it's not like almost every restaurant has
- 26:12an outside cafe.
- 26:13That's pretty cool.
- 26:16Ladies and gentlemen, I hope this resonated with
- 26:18you guys.
- 26:19I want you to know that I am
- 26:20John C.
- 26:21Morley.
- 26:22I'm a serial entrepreneur and a lot more.
- 26:24And ladies and gentlemen, this has been Inspirations
- 26:27For Your Life.
- 26:29And this is where autopilot ends and purpose
- 26:33begins.
- 26:35My question that I have for you tonight
- 26:37is, if you're on autopilot, do you know
- 26:41you're on autopilot?
- 26:43If I said to you right now, I
- 26:45know you're on autopilot.
- 26:47How do you get off it?
- 26:48Could you get off autopilot?
- 26:50Like, well, I don't know how to get,
- 26:52I don't even know what's on it.
- 26:53You are.
- 26:54How do you get off it?
- 26:56I'll give you a hint.
- 26:57Be intentional with what you're doing.
- 27:01Don't go through the motions of life.
- 27:05You're gonna miss all the beautiful flavors, all
- 27:08the beautiful sights.
- 27:09Yes, you're gonna see them, but you're not
- 27:11gonna truly appreciate the beauty for which they
- 27:15were crafted under.
- 27:17And a lot of people go through life,
- 27:19they just go through the motions.
- 27:21But they miss so much beauty.
- 27:26That could be in sound, that could be
- 27:28in sights, it could be in tastes and
- 27:31smells.
- 27:32So let's start being intentional.
- 27:35And what better way to do that than
- 27:37start getting your life off autopilot right now.
- 27:39I hope you guys have a great rest
- 27:41of your evening or rest of your day.
- 27:43And be sure to check out, yes, BelieveMeAchieve
- 27:46.com for more of my amazing, inspiring creations,
