- 1:42We got the, we got the the birds and we got children with the
- 1:46whooping cough? Yeah.
- 1:48Bronchitis sounds like it. So guys, welcome to another
- 1:53random even ramblings podcast with me and Patrick Walsh in
- 1:57person. For the very first time, he's
- 1:59been on the podcast the number of times before, but today is
- 2:02his first in And he's here with me in Tennessee where at the
- 2:06case in Trailhead for the MTH. Park moved later on today.
- 2:10So I'm excited to have you here man.
- 2:12No. Damn.
- 2:12Happy to be here. Yeah, so we're going to be
- 2:14talking about, I mean, who knows what we're going to be talking
- 2:17about, but I think I have a feeling.
- 2:19We're going to be talking a little bit about one of your
- 2:21recent experiences with seeing hilum.
- 2:25Yeah, that was quite the experience.
- 2:27Yes. Oh, so give us a rundown from I
- 2:30guess. The start of it all to getting
- 2:34there to the, to the, to the ritual to get leaving on me.
- 2:36Just give us a whole experience run down while I like this pipe.
- 2:41Absolutely. So, I first saw them back in
- 2:44January 2020, and It was definitely a very intense
- 2:52experience at the venue there, probably about, yay.
- 2:56Big out in the distance and then After that song again and Red
- 3:03Rocks who Colorado and couldn't think more better than you and
- 3:09the atmosphere. I mean Colorado nuff said.
- 3:12And then most recently, I saw them again in Chicago.
- 3:17Fortunately, not in January, were, is Supple.
- 3:20Oh, freezing temperatures, the venue was pretty decent.
- 3:25And I had a one of the first people to arrive at the venue,
- 3:31which is a huge bonus, and first in line.
- 3:35Yeah, and actually friends with some of the members via Facebook
- 3:41and I had the privilege of meeting up with a couple of them
- 3:44prior to the performance and cool.
- 3:48And then a little bit afterwards, really got to meet
- 3:53most if not all the members of high long after the The show and
- 3:59hung out with them and stuff. Yes.
- 4:00Hung out them and an after party and that was very surreal to
- 4:06say, the very least. I mean just being in the company
- 4:10of such incredible people and it's just like meeting, you
- 4:16know, people you've always wanted to meet and yeah, never
- 4:19imagined that to happen. So the experience I mean you've
- 4:24obviously been a fan for a while.
- 4:25We've talked about just the whole You know, it's more than
- 4:28just music and it's more than just a concert.
- 4:31It's yeah, it's ceremony. It's like a ritual in everybody
- 4:34that I've talked to everybody that, you know, that you see on
- 4:37social media talking about it and talking about the
- 4:40experience, exactly say the same thing, like there's almost
- 4:44unequivocally like it's an experience.
- 4:46It's a ritual that ceremonial and Highland really Embraces
- 4:51that as well, like, it's not just what their fans and
- 4:54followers and what not think. Like it's actually what the
- 4:57band. Just for it's not it's a ritual
- 4:59and they call their caller things rituals.
- 5:03You know, it's not come out to our concert come out to our
- 5:04show, it's come to my show. What's the what's the if you
- 5:10could? I don't know.
- 5:10Maybe like summarized in one word, what it feels like to be
- 5:16at a Highland ritual. Healing.
- 5:21Comforting. And yes being with yet it's as
- 5:26being in a state of our ritual. A state of mind where you
- 5:31couldn't, you know, commune with yourself and then the higher
- 5:35Powers be it, you know, the gods or whatever you choose to
- 5:39believe it. Yeah.
- 5:41Is it a pretty mixed crowd of? I mean that you can meet people
- 5:45and know people like you get. They have a very strong obvious
- 5:48Germanic and northern European aesthetic to, you know, it's a
- 5:52pretty General crowd. I mean, you have people who come
- 5:55dressed for the occasion, you know, and ritual garbs for So,
- 6:00people just walk around this, a regular band shirt, you know?
- 6:03On this instance players like that.
- 6:05Now my know. I mean it's twitch the ROM, you
- 6:09know, so people go for entertainment and more so than
- 6:13not most people go for, as you mention and experience.
- 6:17And that's exactly what they offer.
- 6:20Yeah. I've thought about going, a
- 6:22number of times, this is like, what?
- 6:24Their third return visit to the states, I believe.
- 6:28So, something like that. Yeah.
- 6:29I'm glad for it because they obviously have a very dedicated
- 6:33following worldwide. Yeah.
- 6:36But so I'm hoping that, you know, the next, the next
- 6:40go-around I'll try to make make that he's definitely, definitely
- 6:44busy year, just for that type of music.
- 6:46I mean I know or through nose is coming here next month, I think.
- 6:51Yeah, I'll be seeing them and Chicago.
- 6:53Again, you're going up to see that's my first time seeing
- 6:55them. So I'm excited about that.
- 6:58It's going to be interesting and like dick.
- 6:59Here because I'm, you know, it's kind of along the same lines of
- 7:03music but a different like I know.
- 7:05Ours is a much different energy hopeless and energy abscess in
- 7:10the whole thing. But very rooted in Tradition,
- 7:13very rooted in, you know, the healing nature of music and song
- 7:19and whatnot. I think that's a lot of what you
- 7:22know people are needing nowadays is ways to heal through
- 7:26varieties of things challenges. Life events, you know, last week
- 7:33when we had when I talked about the letting things go, right?
- 7:41How we, you know, the things that we find that we can use to
- 7:46help us let go, right? The things that kind of honestly
- 7:49fill a hole or fill a gap, but when you let go of something
- 7:53you're losing something, you know, your it's you're done with
- 7:56it now. So what do you do to replace
- 7:57that with you fall into, you know, destructive habits,
- 8:01destructive behaviors these? Do you, or do you find things
- 8:03that are wholesome and hewing? And I think stuff like, you
- 8:06know, The music is definitely a tool that can be leveraged for
- 8:13for that sort of thing. What do you think?
- 8:15I couldn't agree more. I mean, Music is always been a
- 8:20very big part of my life, whether it be for inspiration
- 8:25for ritualistic practices or you know, more often not with other
- 8:30bands, you know? Just entertainment.
- 8:35Yeah. And now we're out here.
- 8:39Healing ourselves today with other people.
- 8:41You know? So Community I think is a big
- 8:44part of healing as well. Absolutely.
- 8:47And again, you know, you can sit and listen to music by yourself,
- 8:49but going to those events going to those rituals going to, those
- 8:52serums takes it to a whole different level elevators.
- 8:54What thing, you know, seeing them on YouTube the, you know, a
- 8:58video such as this, but to be there in person, it is it really
- 9:03amplifies it and that's something that, you know, that
- 9:06I've been willing to travel Outside the state B, it Illinois
- 9:10or the lovely state of Colorado and now jump at the chance of
- 9:13going there. Any chance I get?
- 9:15Yeah, yeah. And that's like a, that's a
- 9:18ritual in itself. I think to like, or it's
- 9:21ceremonial in a way because, you know, you're taking or you
- 9:25taking yourself out of your comfort zone.
- 9:27You know, you're leaving a place that you're familiar with, and
- 9:29you're going to someplace new that you've never been or that
- 9:32is foreign to you. And, you know, there's, there's
- 9:35always a level, I think, no matter.
- 9:38You know, I've traveled so much over over the years, but every
- 9:42place you go that's near. There's this always this level
- 9:44of like, well, where do I go? What do I do?
- 9:46You know there's the, you know, maybe some anxiety?
- 9:48Yeah, the sense of adventure, as well.
- 9:50Yeah. And that's what I'm saying is
- 9:51like, you can, you know, some people are terrified by that,
- 9:54you know, some people don't want to leave their their own
- 9:57backyards. And I feel like, you know, when
- 10:00you, when you Get stuck in that level of isolation from the
- 10:05world. You're doing yourself an
- 10:07injustice. Yeah seems to service.
- 10:09Yeah, exactly. I mean sometimes it really goes
- 10:13payoff to go outside your realm of comfort more often.
- 10:16Not that I had to find myself having to force myself to do,
- 10:20you know? Because I was like, I suffer
- 10:22from depression and there are many times where I just want to
- 10:25sit in my room and just watch, you know, various different TV
- 10:29shows. But I We'll push myself to go
- 10:32outside. Whether it be a park or around
- 10:35my neighborhood and nine out of ten times, you know, I'm out
- 10:39doing that activity and I just find myself in a much more
- 10:42positive headspace. And this, that's a very
- 10:46important in the state of mental health.
- 10:48Because if you're stuck alone in a room, you're not doing
- 10:51yourself too much of a certain you get caught at yourself.
- 10:54You get caught inside yourself, exactly right.
- 10:56And that's not always the best place to be.
- 10:59Yeah. I think, when we Push ourselves
- 11:05outside of our comfort zones. And you know, when I used to go
- 11:08to like the gym all the time, like there were plenty of times
- 11:10that I was like, I don't feel like it.
- 11:11I don't want to go, I don't want to do it, you know?
- 11:14But I pushed myself to go do it and then feel great for doing
- 11:19all really does pay off. You know, you may not think like
- 11:21you're going to be okay with it in the moment.
- 11:23But when you actually go and push yourself past that
- 11:25threshold, push push yourself, push yourself past that level of
- 11:28comfort, you're going to be glad you did from you.
- 11:32Often find herself, you know. He more adventures and more
- 11:36experiences, you know, to elevate that sense of
- 11:41accomplishment. Yeah.
- 11:44Yeah. Because it does it sets a tone
- 11:46and you know like huh? Wow, the next time I don't feel
- 11:48like doing something. Look what I have to look forward
- 11:51to. Exactly can push myself because
- 11:52I've done it before and now I know that in the in the moment I
- 11:55may not enjoy it but the experience I will and you know,
- 12:00you learn something from it. Well, it's a lot.
- 12:02Like when I came to drive down here And the shenanigans that
- 12:06followed me. Ye talk about that a bit.
- 12:08Yeah, that was that's quite the story.
- 12:10So I started driving down here and at first, all was well,
- 12:14weather was fine. My car at the time was okay.
- 12:18But then when I reached about, I think it was like 150 miles away
- 12:23from here, you're still good ways away.
- 12:26Yeah, my accelerator wasn't really working that.
- 12:29Well, so when you're driving down a highway originally, 80
- 12:32miles per hour or 75 and then Starts to go down to 60 and 55
- 12:38and you're pushing the gas and nothing's working.
- 12:40Yeah. And then the sense of anxiety
- 12:42that flew through my or flooded. Through my veins was almost
- 12:46unbearable. Yeah.
- 12:48But I still wasn't deterred and I still carried a hope and, you
- 12:53know, an effort to push on. And t m, not give up.
- 12:58You have to and it was thinking cases.
- 13:00I mean, what are you gonna do? You can't just say, well, the
- 13:02scale-up can't just give up and its really 150 miles away from
- 13:05me, but you're also however, many hundreds of miles away from
- 13:07where you started. So, yeah, it's like I either.
- 13:10You gotta do something. Man, it's important not to you
- 13:12make it happen. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 13:16And that's another thing too with like, Healing, is that your
- 13:22healing comes into a lot of different ways.
- 13:24And quite often times it comes through the challenges and
- 13:27adversities that we endure. Absolutely, we might think on,
- 13:30man. I can't, I can't, I can't deal
- 13:32with this anymore or it's too tough.
- 13:34No, this is part of it. This is part of the experience.
- 13:37This is part of what we have to go through to, you know, I've
- 13:43heard it said and I definitely agree that adversity, ordeal it
- 13:48breeds. Earth.
- 13:50It's the thing that makes us worth while and and worthy and
- 13:55worth something among our communities are our friends, our
- 14:01families, right? If we haven't been pushed and we
- 14:03haven't been challenged And if life is just always so good and
- 14:08so cushy. Right?
- 14:09Like what are you work? You haven't been Testing and
- 14:13testing yeah you haven't put to the test I like that you haven't
- 14:16tested with a lot of the Pharisees.
- 14:19It's ultimately up to ourselves to let it make us or break us
- 14:24and it's you know it's easier said than done, there will be
- 14:26days that you're a person he's will kick your ass but then
- 14:30there are days that you'll find you know whatever battles and
- 14:34victories you can you know yeah not every day is going to be you
- 14:38know sunshine and gumdrops. Well I think that's the that's
- 14:41the whole point is it's you You need to get we need to get our
- 14:44asses kicked. Sometimes it's very it's a
- 14:46humbling experience and you can't have the good without the
- 14:48bad otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell one from the other.
- 14:53Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:55If you can see if it's all just sunshine and gumdrops you know
- 14:58if we today if here's a classic example of challenges or
- 15:02adversary like a minor thing, what were you saying earlier
- 15:05about if it's what's that phrase that kind of a running joke that
- 15:09you were saying you have hobby too convenient to convenient,
- 15:11right? So today That.
- 15:13Yes, you convenient it, Patrick didn't have any issues getting
- 15:16here, then that would just be too.
- 15:17That's too easy. Yeah.
- 15:19If we today didn't have issues with the place because this this
- 15:24pot here, this Pavilion here is not the not our first choice.
- 15:28First Choice. We had we were going to be at
- 15:30Barfield Crescent. And I'll be honest, I didn't we
- 15:35didn't get up early enough and I'll put that blame on me
- 15:37because I did, I thought we can get there about 8:00, 8:30, I
- 15:40got up at six, you obviously, so he was writing rare.
- 15:43Don't want to wake you up. Yeah, don't be disturbed.
- 15:45Yeah, I feel ya but that's my fault.
- 15:47You know I should have actually gotten there much earlier but we
- 15:49tried a few different options over there and you know got
- 15:54halfway unpacking they're like hey in a nice way like you can't
- 15:57be here because they had other things Reserve you know they had
- 16:01other things going on volkers. Yeah I kind of wanted to stay
- 16:06for that. I'm like that was rather
- 16:08interesting actual vultures here but I mean they're all over the
- 16:11place anyway so yeah. But yes, so they had that going
- 16:14on, we had a out of, you know, thinking our feet and with
- 16:19places like this. You know, you never know what
- 16:22time of day when you show up, if it's a birthday party, or
- 16:25graduation or family gathering, family get-together or, you
- 16:29know, somebody celebrating. Their, they got peach fuzz on
- 16:32their nuts or something. I mean, who knows, maybe, you
- 16:35know, could be a bunch of things but if they're here and they say
- 16:37claim to that spot, then it's off limits and that's what we
- 16:40ran into earlier. So I'm like, well, shit.
- 16:43Now, what do we do? And now here we are and this is
- 16:47actually probably a better setup than what we would have had at
- 16:50Barfield. Because I think if people show
- 16:52up today that we expect to show up, we're going to need more
- 16:55seats. Thankfully, we've got dozens of
- 16:58tables here and you know, in a couple hours and people start
- 17:02showing up, hopefully we don't run into any.
- 17:05Other hiccups in the road. But again, it's that challenge
- 17:07aspect. It's that to put you to the
- 17:09test. Now, you got level of excitement
- 17:10as well. Yeah.
- 17:11Does it adds like, oh boy, you no sense of adventure.
- 17:14I was like, are gonna stop by and potentially call the cops.
- 17:18I doubt it be that, I don't think so, but they might, you
- 17:21know, you never know though that this place is reserved show me
- 17:23where because we looked around, there's no signs.
- 17:26You know, there's no signs here that's a reserved for some so on
- 17:30a certain date and so, I like, well, if it ain't signed up and
- 17:33it's not showing it then I guess it's Last week when I was
- 17:43talking about letting go, I don't have the audio for it for
- 17:48you guys to listen to here today.
- 17:50But I got a call from a guy out in Idaho, so Crow from the
- 17:55deathlanders. He's a go, the I think of for a
- 17:59group out in the death, death lands of Idaho as I recall but
- 18:03he listens to the podcast. If you're listening, thank you
- 18:08for your voice mail. I got it.
- 18:10But the the hole That that topic of Letting Go really touched a
- 18:17lot of people. Like I got a lot of comments on
- 18:19it. On different platforms, you
- 18:22know, crow called in you obviously I think you were
- 18:26listening to it, either on your train ride, but there or back to
- 18:31Chicago or letting go. I was actually down at my Lake.
- 18:35Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
- 18:36Walking around the lake and that's an interesting thing to
- 18:40mention because you had sent me a picture. the Heron and has a
- 18:46lot of people know from the content that I share River,
- 18:50walks are like my thing and have become a very regular activity
- 18:54and a lot of times when I'm in the river, I'll be in the
- 18:59presence or see herons or a heron and it's become kind of
- 19:04like a companion of sorts to me and You know, I've talked about
- 19:11the Heron and depth with other people.
- 19:21That phone call from my wife. Hello.
- 19:25A recording a podcast. You want to be on it.
- 19:30I'll put you on speaker. Heron.
- 19:34Yeah, the Heron wife didn't want to be on the podcast by the way,
- 19:40then she normally doesn't, but she called she's on vacation
- 19:43talk to me for a little bit. But anyway the Heron back to
- 19:47that story so being like that companion being that God.
- 19:54Yeah. Like it like it like a spirit
- 19:55guide in a way because my experience is with the hair and
- 19:58you know, it's like you're not going to get exceptionally close
- 20:00because they are wild animals and they're skittish but getting
- 20:02so close to them when Can is like, we're watching each other,
- 20:06we're observing each other and I've had, you know, them fly
- 20:08over me in the river. They've purchased the trees
- 20:11above and can't just watch me do my thing.
- 20:14And The the the ties that I have to like some of my Native
- 20:20American Heritage which believe it or not, I do.
- 20:25I don't look it per se, but I've got Algonquin which I know is a
- 20:29pretty like generic term of those tribes of people.
- 20:34There's a lot of different tribes that fall under the
- 20:38Algonquin Nation, but there are a lot of the Indian tribes that
- 20:43up in like the Northeast are Closest to close to close to
- 20:48Marsha saltwater, marshes, freshwater, marshes.
- 20:51And so the Heron is obviously a marsh water bird and it feels
- 20:56like to me, you know, and maybe it is, maybe it isn't.
- 20:59But for me, it feels like it's a an ancestor on that side.
- 21:05And so I've perceived the Heron to be a sort of familiar or
- 21:10philia or fetch. When you sent that picture of
- 21:14the Heron, I'm getting the Nets. What I was getting to is when
- 21:16you sent that picture of the Heron, you encountered that
- 21:21creature. After I had gone to the river
- 21:24myself, like I had gone to the river earlier that day and you
- 21:29were then inspired to go out to the lake and you were listening
- 21:32to the podcast and the when you went out to the lake that was
- 21:38It's like the day before. Yep.
- 21:39They my departure before you left it was Thursday.
- 21:42Yep. And I looked at that and I don't
- 21:46know if I told you this but I looked at that and I perceive
- 21:49that as subconsciously like I had no intention of going to the
- 21:54river and doing this. But without me, even trying to
- 21:57the energy that the the the purpose going to the river, the
- 22:02intent, everything. Just the intention of it all.
- 22:05Moved that Spirit to you and the the guide that my filia came to
- 22:10you without me trying to, and you saw the hair and it to you,
- 22:14that the moment it was a hand. But to me, I see that as Like a
- 22:17sign for you to know that you're going to go and your trips going
- 22:22to be. Prosperous.
- 22:24Yep. It's going to be a good trip and
- 22:26with the challenges that came along the way so far, it has
- 22:31been. Yep.
- 22:32That has like, you got here yesterday, because we're
- 22:35recording now, it's a Saturday. He got here yesterday afternoon.
- 22:39Originally, I supposed to get here at like 155 and then I had
- 22:44to stop the car several times to let it cool off.
- 22:47Yeah, throw. It's a little temper tantrum.
- 22:49Yeah. And then then there's the issue
- 22:51of my battery but I did. Mention that yeah, you're of
- 22:54course your phone battery. I made the mistake of listening
- 22:56to music via my phone on YouTube and played that for about four
- 23:02hours. And I realized very quickly
- 23:05yeah, I drained it very quickly and I was probably about 10%
- 23:10battery. When I was driving to your house
- 23:13and now it's here to death that you know.
- 23:15I'm also relying on GPS here for my phone.
- 23:18So if that goes it is I'm SOL. SOL.
- 23:22Yeah. And I was even telling him, I'm
- 23:25like maybe stop somewhere and get a car charger, you know,
- 23:28like a lot of gas stations will have and that'll fit the phone,
- 23:32but I've I was like, well, if your feet because if you as long
- 23:36as you get on xy0 like as long as you get on that road, I'll be
- 23:39out here waiting for you. I was I was like in case the
- 23:41phone died and you couldn't call me.
- 23:42I'm like I'll be right out here. You'll see me and for you know
- 23:45sure enough he did got here we got you settled in went down to
- 23:50the river later that night got a Dubai bunch of mosquitoes
- 23:52because it's you That time of year.
- 23:56I'm going to go back to the river, we're going to go back to
- 23:58the river tomorrow during the day and probably get in the
- 24:01water and do some river. Walk in and see what we can see.
- 24:04And so grounding, yep, not be bringing bug spray it this time.
- 24:08Yeah, once you get in the water, believe it or not, the bugs.
- 24:11Like they'll be bugs around like, dragonflies and stuff.
- 24:14That fly over the water, but I've never had any major issues
- 24:16with bugs should have brought some bug spray today.
- 24:20Now what have been a little too convenient?
- 24:22Little bit to get. We go again.
- 24:23Right? Would have been telling you.
- 24:24It's everywhere you go. It'll happen.
- 24:26If we got to roll with the punches you do and we've
- 24:30definitely had some punches to roll it but nothing to like
- 24:33earth-shattering nothing to now you know, very minor in most
- 24:36part but again it gets those things that you just constantly
- 24:40need to be reminded of that. It's if it's too easy and you
- 24:42can you get too complacent you know having exactly you don't
- 24:47remember those moments know? They don't stick in your mind as
- 24:51an important Mark in the road of an important Milestone.
- 24:56We've had this happen to with our try before where you know,
- 24:59we were going to cut up firewood for an event.
- 25:03I forget, which might have been like Seger blow or something.
- 25:08I don't know. We're cutting up firewood and we
- 25:10thought, well, we'll go out here.
- 25:11We'll make short work of this. That way we can have more time
- 25:13to like, Party or drink or do whatever we want to do before
- 25:17the night before the ceremony. We were going to bring a
- 25:20chainsaw out there to cut all the wood up chainsaw wouldn't
- 25:24start of course tried every which way you know, check
- 25:27gastric filters did this clean it out.
- 25:30Spent like, 20 minutes, trying to get that stupid things,
- 25:32start, and it wouldn't. So, it was back to axes and
- 25:35saws. And, you know, we were out there
- 25:37just busting our butts for hours cutting up firewood.
- 25:39But again, we were able to enjoy the fire and so much more
- 25:45Because we are reaping the benefits of the work that we put
- 25:49in, you know, the sweat exertion of energy, you know, all of that
- 25:54stuff. Being that would have that.
- 25:56You wouldn't have thought you sure.
- 25:57Yeah. Couldn't things that would
- 25:57chain. Saws aren't easy.
- 26:00But when you're talking about, you know, fire for all night,
- 26:03like you got to cut a lot of wood and then when you're when
- 26:05you're swinging an axe for hours or sawing with a hand saw four
- 26:10hours, like you're worn out, by the end of it, all you want to
- 26:13do is just sit down and relax. That's all Oh, very humbling
- 26:16experience when you see firsthand just what our
- 26:20ancestors had to go through like yesterday when I was driving
- 26:23down here. Mean I obviously didn't have
- 26:24cars, they didn't have maps and have anything.
- 26:29I mean they have this, the stars and the Sun and that was pretty
- 26:33much it and it made me really appreciate the amenities and
- 26:38technology that we have today to make this a lot more easy to
- 26:43accomplish. Yeah, it's a good like paying
- 26:47homage to our ancestors by doing the things that We take for
- 26:53granted, you know, heard a lot of people.
- 26:59Make mention of, you know how what have you done to earn your
- 27:02life? What have you done to earn your
- 27:03next meal? Because we are we live in the
- 27:05time now. Where if I'm hungry I just get
- 27:08in my car and go to the drive-through.
- 27:09Exactly go to the grocery store and pick up ingredients to cook.
- 27:14They're still people nowadays, modern modern-day primitive
- 27:17tribes that. If they're hungry, they got to
- 27:20go catch the hunter-gatherer. Yeah, I got a fish, they got a
- 27:24harvest. It from the ground.
- 27:25That gotta go get it. And most people nowadays, don't
- 27:30understand that struggle. Now, they don't understand that
- 27:33in order to eat, you have to work.
- 27:36So I think it's an important message for people, now, to
- 27:40you'll have a much better quality of life.
- 27:41You'll feel so much better if you put in the work to obtain.
- 27:47What it is that you want, right? If I'm hungry, I want to eat.
- 27:50Okay, well, what have I done to earn it?
- 27:52I just woke up today. So what have I done?
- 27:55Listen up my debit card. Yeah.
- 27:58I put in some physical put in some effort, you know, I mean,
- 28:00go out for a walk, go do some push-ups.
- 28:02I don't know something that you can simulate as that's tracking
- 28:09or yeah, exactly. It should be a very enriching
- 28:12experience Out. Imagine to for all those people
- 28:15who hunt for their food, for example, like deer or elk or
- 28:20what have you. Yeah, I mean shoot, have you
- 28:23ever gone hunting? No, I would like to someday.
- 28:26Yeah. Fight now.
- 28:27Days. It's a little bit, nothing
- 28:28different, but like I've hunted deer.
- 28:31I've hunted turkeys, of course, I've gone fishing your fished
- 28:37ever gone. Of course fishing.
- 28:38Yeah, Savage, I had a pretty decent upbringing and fishing
- 28:43was definitely part of that. Not crazy about it.
- 28:47I mean, I'll do it with a couple beers, maybe?
- 28:51Yeah. Really through a case of beer in
- 28:53the boat and I'm not a very patient person either so you can
- 28:56ask any of my friends. Severe.
- 28:57Yeah he can't wait for ship but yeah, that's the that's the
- 29:01other thing too is like when you're hunting or fishing or any
- 29:04sort of game, you know, activity like that.
- 29:07You you have to have patience because a deer is not just going
- 29:10to walk across your path. A turkey is not just going to
- 29:12land in your lap of fishes and vision of jump in your boat or
- 29:15in your net. Like you gotta wait it out.
- 29:17You gotta, first of all, look for the signs.
- 29:19Are you don't just You're not going to throw a fishing line
- 29:23into a swimming pool because obviously that's not where the
- 29:25fish are at. You need to know where to go for
- 29:27the thing that you're trying to get you need to read the signs
- 29:31of nature around you to know That what you're going after is
- 29:36accessible and available to you there.
- 29:38So, again, it's a whole thing, man.
- 29:40It's a whole mood. It's a whole ceremony and
- 29:43itself. And then when you do, you know,
- 29:47capture your prey when you, when you killed your deer turkey or
- 29:52you caught your fish, it is it's so enriching.
- 29:54And it's so rewarding that, you know, the time that you spent
- 29:56waiting for them, or the effort that you took tracking them or,
- 29:59you know, reading the signs of nature around you to know.
- 30:01I need to cast my line under that tree not in the middle.
- 30:05That rock or something, you know what I mean?
- 30:07Like it is it so it's it's a great way to connect to your
- 30:12Primal Roots. You know.
- 30:15It's another part of healing it that you're not.
- 30:18Counting on that to survive for, you know, your day-to-day meal.
- 30:22I can you imagine how people would be now?
- 30:24They're it, man. Nowadays, I think there'd be so
- 30:26many people that would absolutely just croak if that's
- 30:29only back to the week. No electricity.
- 30:32No running water Wi-Fi, internet, you know, if you want
- 30:36to go anywhere, you got a walk or get on an animal that will
- 30:40carry you. Yeah.
- 30:42But at that, they let you. Yeah, it's a I had like, I grew
- 30:48up kind of in a, in a similar type c, I would maybe say wasn't
- 30:53like primitive, modern day. Modern-day primitive tribe
- 30:57living, but it was kind of like, almost like a like, Amish in a
- 31:01way like yeah, we had running water.
- 31:02You we had electricity but, you know, we had we raised cattle
- 31:08for beef. We had everybody had Gardens.
- 31:10We would you know and the farm that you know, raise that that
- 31:15the beef cattle were raised on the stairs were raised on, you
- 31:18know, we cut those fields, we cut the hey we love those.
- 31:25All's we did all those things, we fix the fence, has nobody
- 31:28else did it, we did it ourselves, you know, so it's
- 31:32definitely an enriching experience and I think I think
- 31:35more people nowadays at haven't had that type of lifestyle or
- 31:39were raised that and then that sort of Lifestyle are definitely
- 31:42missing out. So if you have that opportunity,
- 31:46take advantage of it, maybe put yourself in that position and it
- 31:49doesn't necessarily have to be like an everyday thing.
- 31:51But I say, you know, what have you done today to earn?
- 31:54What you've got, the comes the calm that, you know, the
- 31:57modern-day conveniences that that makes our lives.
- 32:01So so enjoyable, because we really do, we have it easy, we
- 32:04have it, very easy, and if we're not doing things, I think to
- 32:07honor our ancestors Legacies. You know, we're not feeding
- 32:11that. Well, then it's we're doing our
- 32:14ancestors, a disservice also. And I like to point out that
- 32:18it's not a point to make yourself suffer.
- 32:23I mean, that might be part of the process, but it's to develop
- 32:25that sense of appreciation and awareness that what's most often
- 32:32taken for granted. Yeah, now, that's an interesting
- 32:35point, you see making yourself. So making yourself suffer or
- 32:38making ourselves suffer Where should we suffer in life?
- 32:43Anyway, life is full of suffering.
- 32:46Are we going to be victim of the suffering?
- 32:48Or are we going to put ourselves through ordeals and put
- 32:51ourselves through challenges that are going to condition us
- 32:53to deal with that suffering better?
- 32:56You know? So again I could say, you know,
- 33:00I don't, I don't feel like going out until, you know, the River
- 33:02today. I don't feel like going on a
- 33:03walk today because I feel bummed out about, you know, like my job
- 33:08or whatever things that are real and that, you know, you have to
- 33:11or I could say, you know, I need to go out and I need a Do this
- 33:15because it's healing. It's that world time that you
- 33:20put yourself through that challenge, put yourself through
- 33:22that ordeal and Come out stronger in the end, the
- 33:26suffering that you're going through, whether it's, you know,
- 33:28physical suffering, mental suffering, spiritual suffering,
- 33:33you know? If you're spiritually lacking,
- 33:34if you're feeling disconnected from your spiritual path, or
- 33:40religious path, right? Putting yourself through these
- 33:45things, can really light a fire under you, here comes a plane
- 33:51and a lot more people, you might not see it.
- 33:53But we have about 50 plus people, swarming us right now.
- 33:58Is it's a busy. It's a busy day at the park
- 34:00which is great. I mean, it's a nice day out, and
- 34:02of course, can't really fault them for that but themselves in
- 34:09the outdoors and not just being tied to a TV or burn a for a
- 34:12phone, you know? So, That's a pretty.
- 34:18I think that's a wrap. What do you think anything else
- 34:20that we missed? Well I mean I was also going to
- 34:23point out the practices of reciprocation as well as
- 34:29intentions whether that and that can go for Spiritual practices,
- 34:34relationships with ourselves with our God's and our family.
- 34:41And that's an even with the for example, like the groups that we
- 34:44follow for example, from one example Highland for For that
- 34:50reason, they've been someone that I've looked up to and have
- 34:54helped me through some very difficult times.
- 34:58Even to this very day, it's a really, I really invested myself
- 35:04and shirt my appreciation and joy for what they do and what
- 35:10they sacrifice. I mean, I can't imagine the time
- 35:13they take away from their own families and their friends to
- 35:17come over here to the states and All across the country.
- 35:22I mean, financially, it seems very daunting as well but that's
- 35:27something that they're willing to sacrifice to provide the
- 35:31healing and you know experiences that they offer.
- 35:35Yeah yeah I mean they have a life.
- 35:38All right. And that this is like as much as
- 35:40much of a ritual experience as it is and a ceremonial thing for
- 35:44it to be a put. If you'd be a part of it is It's
- 35:47their livelihood, you know, it's like they could be doing
- 35:49anything to earn a living, right?
- 35:53This is what they've chosen to do.
- 35:54This is what they've embarked on to do and they, you know, Those
- 36:00you know, Commodities and stuff that they get to enjoy our by
- 36:05giving back to people. Yeah.
- 36:06And that pursuit to, you know, I got to meet them in person.
- 36:09This is it was a very humbling and very joyous occasion to have
- 36:14really experienced that point of reciprocation to know that they
- 36:19appreciate me as much as I appreciate them.
- 36:22And that's something I never imagined would have ever
- 36:24happened. I know they appreciate everybody
- 36:26is a fan base and a following But on a very individual level,
- 36:31it is, like I said, translate it all expectations, that I never
- 36:35even knew I had. But then also, you know, like I
- 36:38mentioned a few moments ago, is whenever you're practicing
- 36:43whether it be, you know, the heat of the path or Pagan path
- 36:47when you make an offering or, you know, you feel lacking in
- 36:50something it's all based on your intentions, you know, like
- 36:54putting your heart and soul and to what you are trying to obtain
- 36:59or what you're trying to experience.
- 37:03Yeah. And it's you know, but if that's
- 37:05just good life advice, you know, sure.
- 37:09We look at things and from a very, you know, you know,
- 37:12Patrick's Pagan someone lie and you know this, obviously this
- 37:15podcast is focused on even related topics and things of a
- 37:20key than nature but you could really put you could put this on
- 37:24anything. Hi practices.
- 37:26Yeah. Anything even if you don't have
- 37:28a specific spiritual path or religious path if you're just I
- 37:31mean it's good life. advice have relationships with our families
- 37:34with our, you know, loved ones and even our careers, but most
- 37:38importantly ourselves Because you know what?
- 37:41We put in is what we get out and then after that can come down
- 37:44to, you know, what, your what your diet is, or what activities
- 37:49you do. I mean, it's a very important
- 37:51thing in something. I often neglect.
- 37:53Is I find myself thinking, man, I really need to take better
- 37:56care of myself. You know, whether that means,
- 37:58you know, cut back the amount of beer, that I drink or the amount
- 38:01of candidates digest, and it's just the show that sense of love
- 38:05to myself. Like, you know what, I want to
- 38:07feel better. I want to do better, and that's
- 38:09something that thank, you know, back days to intentions and, you
- 38:13know, that level of commitment that it takes to do something
- 38:17like that, and you'll be of, you'll be a better use and
- 38:19you'll be a better Worth to your community to your people.
- 38:24When you take better care of yourself, we take better care of
- 38:27ourselves because we're not going to, you know, be
- 38:29struggling through physical, physically demanding activities
- 38:33when it's required. Because that's so much of what I
- 38:36think we have lost with Community itself is, you know,
- 38:39everybody's everybody says that they're available if you need
- 38:43anything just let me up. Right, right.
- 38:45I don't really like is it when you do hit them up and then,
- 38:49where are they? I'm kind of busy right now.
- 38:51Yeah, yeah like But they're always out there are those out
- 38:55there they do stand true to their you know their offer.
- 38:59Yeah. Those PS not everybody.
- 39:01Not everybody is like just going to blow you off.
- 39:04But for how out of the percentage of people that say,
- 39:06if you ever need anything just hit me up and then you ask him
- 39:08for something, what do they do? I can't not go.
- 39:12They just ghost, you know, stuff like that.
- 39:15So again, taking care of ourselves makes us of better
- 39:18worth. So that way when people are in
- 39:20need, you can rightly and And confidently be available and
- 39:25then live up to it opposition of experience as well.
- 39:28You know to practice what you preach in to be, you know, a
- 39:31living example and, you know. Yeah, that's pretty much it.
- 39:36Yeah, so do it, man. Like get out there and be a
- 39:40living example, doesn't doesn't have to be.
- 39:41He even doesn't have to be Pagan, but it definitely fits
- 39:44this model, you know? Like it fits it to checks all of
- 39:48the boxes, right? So for everybody that's
- 39:51listening watching, You so much. Thank you Patrick for being here
- 39:54today with me and thank you for, you know, going on in this
- 39:57adventure with me today. You see firsthand just how The
