Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is Adrian Barbo.
- 0:04Speaker 1: You're listening to tech Talk Radio and you're gonna learn
- 0:07Speaker 1: a lot. Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird and happy to
- 0:15Speaker 1: be here. The first show of the new year, twenty
- 0:18Speaker 1: twenty six, of course, and boy, has a.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Lot happened in the last couple of days. Stranger Things
- 0:23Speaker 2: has ended. We're into a new year, and the rumor
- 0:28Speaker 2: is that Stranger Things has a secret episode.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Wait, really, how did you find a secret episode of
- 0:33Speaker 1: this thing?
- 0:35Speaker 2: So? Okay, just like Caitlin and I, we finished the
- 0:38Speaker 2: last episode a couple of nights ago, and right before
- 0:41Speaker 2: the show we were recording, I jumped into discorders and
- 0:43Speaker 2: friends was talking and they're like, oh, Shawn Shey, we
- 0:46Speaker 2: can tell them about the new the potential secret episode.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I was like, what are you talking about? Have you
- 0:50Speaker 2: not been on the internet at all today? Apparently people
- 0:54Speaker 2: have not been happy with the way the show.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Ended, right right tweet It was. When most shows go away,
- 1:00Speaker 1: they usually have kind of bad endings. There's only been
- 1:03Speaker 1: a few that have been good.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So conspiracy theorists for the show went through the final
- 1:09Speaker 2: episode with the Fine tooth Comb and found all these
- 1:12Speaker 2: little subtle hints that are saying that there's an alternate
- 1:15Speaker 2: ending episode coming or a new real true ending episode coming,
- 1:21Speaker 2: and it's supposed to drop on the seventh.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Oh, so it would be out by now. So yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 1: it'd be out by now.
- 1:27Speaker 2: But so we don't know. There could be a rumored
- 1:31Speaker 2: secret final episode for Stranger Things if you believe all
- 1:36Speaker 2: the hype and the conspiracy theories and all that stuff.
- 1:38Speaker 2: But I don't. I really liked the last episode. I'm
- 1:42Speaker 2: I'm in the minority on those who liked the episode
- 1:45Speaker 2: the way.
- 1:45Speaker 1: It ended, right, but it was good. Now with them
- 1:50Speaker 1: ending the show, is there any I haven't seen it
- 1:53Speaker 1: and without you know, spoilers, Is there any way that
- 1:56Speaker 1: it could make it come back at some point in
- 1:58Speaker 1: the future they could have They're already talking to spinoffs, right.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, there's spinoffs for those of you who haven't watched
- 2:04Speaker 2: the show. This might be minor spoilers, so hopefully. But
- 2:10Speaker 2: the teacher that they get hooked up with early and
- 2:13Speaker 2: the av teacher and then Murray from the episode, they
- 2:16Speaker 2: both get nicknames in the final season. Okay, Murray is
- 2:20Speaker 2: Bald Eagle because he's got bald heads and stuff, and
- 2:23Speaker 2: then the teacher is Snook Thems. It's funny. You have
- 2:27Speaker 2: to watch it, understand, right, But everybody wants a spinoff
- 2:30Speaker 2: called Snook Thems and Bald Eagle.
- 2:33Speaker 1: That would be good. I like it, that would work.
- 2:37Speaker 2: So, I mean, there could be other spinoffs and who
- 2:40Speaker 2: knows what. But I think it's gonna end in a
- 2:43Speaker 2: good place. I think it'll be done.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And now they're doing some Broadway stage play with the
- 2:47Speaker 1: characters of Stranger Things. I don't know if you've seen
- 2:49Speaker 1: the ads for it.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I have not seen that.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're, you know, trying to sell tickets. I've
- 2:54Speaker 1: seen ads, so you know, see the stage play see
- 2:58Speaker 1: inspired by Stranger Things, and it has a weird kind
- 3:01Speaker 1: of feeling about it. I was wondering, would you like
- 3:03Speaker 1: go to see a stage play based on that?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Say a little? Probably want to go, But I do
- 3:08Speaker 2: like stage plays, so maybe I don't know. I think
- 3:11Speaker 2: it ran its course right. It started in twenty sixteen,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and I just think it's kind of lost. It's a
- 3:17Speaker 2: lure for me. I'm glad it's over. It ended.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Well, I think that's interesting. Well, if you find out
- 3:23Speaker 1: anything about a secret episode, which they've done stuff like
- 3:27Speaker 1: this before, haven't. They were like, if you wanted to
- 3:29Speaker 1: see something, you could enter a certain key, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: command on your remote control and that would allow you,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I know, that allows you to sometimes find if you
- 3:39Speaker 1: like a genre of science fiction or horror or comedies,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you could do that. And they're just like little secrets.
- 3:47Speaker 1: It's like the secret menu at you know, in and
- 3:49Speaker 1: out Burger you have for Netflix, which is kind of cool.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, we'll see, but you just google it.
- 3:55Speaker 2: It's everywhere. It's on a lot of blogs, and it's
- 3:57Speaker 2: it's kind of all over the internet. Ever.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Know, we we haven't talked to you since before Christmas.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We have had a couple of best of shows that
- 4:05Speaker 1: we shared which were kind of cool. And now officially
- 4:08Speaker 1: we're in our thirtieth year of tech Talk Radio being
- 4:12Speaker 1: on the broadcast airwaves, which is amazing. So that's kind
- 4:16Speaker 1: of you.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Want to do I want to age you right now?
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead. Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So if this is your thirtieth year, yeah, that means
- 4:23Speaker 2: I was nine when you started the show.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Oh and you would have been a great You would
- 4:30Speaker 1: have been great on the show thirty years ago. I
- 4:32Speaker 1: think that would have been.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I mean, so I shared with Andie and Justin a
- 4:36Speaker 2: video over Christmas, right, and it's a video my my
- 4:40Speaker 2: mom and dad were very big on recording home videos
- 4:42Speaker 2: and stuff, and this was a Christmas from nineteen ninety one,
- 4:47Speaker 2: I think. Yeah, I was four yeap and it was
- 4:51Speaker 2: the year that Super Mario Brothers three came out. Oh wow,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and my brother he got it as the gift. But
- 4:58Speaker 2: it's and I'll share it you put it on the blog.
- 5:00Speaker 2: But it's a video of my brother unwrapping Supermarrebrooughs Street,
- 5:03Speaker 2: getting super excited about it, and then him handing it
- 5:06Speaker 2: to me and in my high pitched four year old
- 5:08Speaker 2: voice is like screaming about Supervier Brothers because that was
- 5:12Speaker 2: it was just loved Supervier Brothers as a kid, So
- 5:15Speaker 2: definitely could have had some good insight as a nine
- 5:18Speaker 2: as a nine year old, Yeah, the show.
- 5:19Speaker 1: It was that was actually really cool to see. I
- 5:22Speaker 1: want to say the night before that you sent that
- 5:24Speaker 1: video over Gloria and we're talking about how you know,
- 5:27Speaker 1: our kids are grown up now and we experienced Christmas
- 5:30Speaker 1: through the grandkid, and that he was sick over the
- 5:34Speaker 1: Christmas holiday, so we didn't get to see him. So
- 5:37Speaker 1: it was like we were talking about how we kind
- 5:39Speaker 1: of missed that whole thing with the kids growing up.
- 5:42Speaker 1: You know, me sitting on a couch still asleep because
- 5:45Speaker 1: been wrapping presents all night and then you know, the
- 5:47Speaker 1: kids would open something and I would ask, Gloria, where'd
- 5:50Speaker 1: you buy that? Where'd you get that? Where'd you find
- 5:52Speaker 1: that one at? And it was it was kind of
- 5:54Speaker 1: cool to experience that in your video when you sent that.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It was uh and seeing you, you know a little
- 6:01Speaker 1: a little sean at they're getting opening the presence, getting
- 6:04Speaker 1: your turtle socks. That was the Ninja Turtle slippers.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, those are big, those are big. Those were big.
- 6:10Speaker 1: So how about this Christmas? How how was it for you?
- 6:13Speaker 1: I mean, did you have fun? We shared a list.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Did you get any of that? Oh?
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I got a couple of things, right, I mean
- 6:20Speaker 2: I got the Antilog three D well, I bought that
- 6:21Speaker 2: for myself. Yeah, I did don get the controller, So
- 6:24Speaker 2: I bought that for myself after Christmas, right right, because
- 6:28Speaker 2: Caitlin ended up getting me a console Consola Retro. It's
- 6:32Speaker 2: a handheld device that basically has a bunch of ROMs
- 6:35Speaker 2: on it. Oh, I think I've seen that I could play. Yeah,
- 6:39Speaker 2: that's a handheld device that could play pretty much any
- 6:43Speaker 2: up to up to PlayStation two games on it. It's
- 6:46Speaker 2: got joysticks on it.
- 6:47Speaker 1: And it comes with a whole bunch of ROMs or
- 6:49Speaker 1: you have to go out and find them.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It came with a whole bunch of MS.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And I so, how's the quality on that? Because I've
- 6:54Speaker 1: seen that advertising great and I thought that was kind
- 6:56Speaker 1: of cool and maybe I'd want one.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But yeah, it's great. I mean I I've been playing
- 7:00Speaker 2: some old game Boy games on it that I played
- 7:03Speaker 2: growing up. I played a couple of PlayStation games on there.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to do joysticks on that, like with
- 7:08Speaker 2: like you know, if you're doing dual dual thumb joysticks
- 7:11Speaker 2: on it, it's not super super fun to play. But
- 7:14Speaker 2: like the Super Maril, you know, the Superintendo games, the
- 7:17Speaker 2: nes games, the the Atari games on there are fun So.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Right, it's funny because this happened. So I told you
- 7:24Speaker 1: guys when you were talking about getting the Analog three D,
- 7:27Speaker 1: which is pretty cool. I went into game Stop and
- 7:31Speaker 1: I asked them, are you guys going to be getting
- 7:32Speaker 1: the Analog three D and they said, no, they're not
- 7:36Speaker 1: going to be carrying that, which which is a shame.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The reason I went in is when you guys were
- 7:40Speaker 1: talking about that, you and you and Justin, I decided
- 7:43Speaker 1: I was going to go ahead and find the Nintendo
- 7:47Speaker 1: Wii and get that all see if I could get
- 7:49Speaker 1: it going again. And it been it been sitting in
- 7:51Speaker 1: the closet for a long time. So I opened the cloud,
- 7:54Speaker 1: pulled pulled the we out. I found a controller. I
- 7:58Speaker 1: opened it and there were batteries in it. The thing
- 8:00Speaker 1: had not been used for years, and there was that
- 8:03Speaker 1: caked on stuff. So I just sat there, you know,
- 8:06Speaker 1: spent about an hour just scraping away, and that whole
- 8:10Speaker 1: bit hooked up the Nintendo we well, I tried to
- 8:14Speaker 1: hook it up. There's no way to hook it up
- 8:15Speaker 1: to a current television, and I was like, oh man,
- 8:19Speaker 1: So I had to go and buy a connector that
- 8:22Speaker 1: would basically it bridges so the you know the video yellow,
- 8:28Speaker 1: red and white audio you know, left and right, then
- 8:32Speaker 1: can be turned into HDMI, which is kind of cool.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It was about thirteen bucks, so I hooked I finally.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That's why I went to GameStop and I bought it there.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I got home and it was all excited and I've
- 8:43Speaker 1: powered up and there I could see I could see
- 8:46Speaker 1: the menu, and I had my one controller and I tried.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I could hit a but I couldn't hit any other buttons.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Couldn't make it do anything. And I was like, but
- 8:56Speaker 1: I want to scroll there to that window that says
- 8:59Speaker 1: super Mario. I want to play it right, and I
- 9:03Speaker 1: no matter what I did, I couldn't do it. So
- 9:05Speaker 1: I thought, Okay, it's probably that controller. It got really
- 9:08Speaker 1: messed up with the batteries being in it for that long.
- 9:10Speaker 1: So I went to back to game Stop. They didn't
- 9:13Speaker 1: have any. They said, go to Bookman's. So Bookmans, I
- 9:16Speaker 1: don't know if you're not familiar with Bookman's. They're a
- 9:19Speaker 1: local Tucson shop.
- 9:21Speaker 2: That has been half price books for us.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yeah, they sell half prize books, they sell games, they
- 9:26Speaker 1: sell hardware, they sell music equipment. They have all kinds
- 9:30Speaker 1: of stuff in their Matter of fact, I saw a
- 9:33Speaker 1: comic book they had in the on their shelf. It
- 9:36Speaker 1: was the first one to introduce Batwoman. It was seven
- 9:40Speaker 1: hundred bucks for this comic book. So they sell you know,
- 9:44Speaker 1: hard to find stuff. So I went back and I
- 9:46Speaker 1: looked and they had a Wii section. They had a
- 9:49Speaker 1: Nintendo Wii that was ready to go for one hundred
- 9:51Speaker 1: and ten bucks, and then they had controllers twenty five bucks.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So I thought, well, luckily over the years I have
- 9:59Speaker 1: traded in. You take books, they give you a credit,
- 10:02Speaker 1: you take games to give you a credit, get hardware
- 10:04Speaker 1: to give you a credit. And I had, like, I
- 10:07Speaker 1: want to say, almost one hundred and fifty bucks in
- 10:09Speaker 1: store credit and this is from like twelve years ago,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and they accepted it. So I ended up getting my controller.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I came home, bought the batteries in it, and it
- 10:20Speaker 1: did the same thing. It wouldn't It wouldn't work. I
- 10:23Speaker 1: was so disappointed. I wanted to play Mario and so
- 10:28Speaker 1: I go online and I'm asking, you know, the home assistant,
- 10:31Speaker 1: I mean, what can I do? Why isn't it working?
- 10:33Speaker 1: And I said, make sure you have the sensor bar
- 10:36Speaker 1: properly fixed above the television. I'm like, sensor bar, What
- 10:41Speaker 1: the heck.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Is sumer part of this?
- 10:43Speaker 1: I'm like, what's the censor bar? So I go online,
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm looking and I go, oh, I've seen that thing.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Where is that thing, and I'm digging through the closet.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I go with the garage. I go to my I
- 10:54Speaker 1: have a storage facility. I go there, I looking, I
- 10:56Speaker 1: couldn't find it. I was so disappointed. So the next
- 10:59Speaker 1: day two book. No, well, I thought. So the next
- 11:04Speaker 1: day I'm going through something. I had to find a cassette,
- 11:07Speaker 1: and I'm looking for the cassette and once't you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: right next to cassette, it's the center bar. So I go,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I find the center bar, I plug it in and
- 11:16Speaker 1: sure enough, there I've got access. I start playing uh
- 11:19Speaker 1: super Mario, and it was so much fun. But after
- 11:22Speaker 1: a while, I was thinking, these graphics are really terrible. Yeah,
- 11:27Speaker 1: not as exciting.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I played a lot of the analog Dreety over Christmas break.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 2: I have blisters on my thumbs. I'm not joking. I
- 11:37Speaker 2: have callouses and blisters now on the inside of my thumbs.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Gamers headaches, yeah, from.
- 11:42Speaker 2: From because I played So I played through a ton
- 11:47Speaker 2: of Mario Kart sixty four. I unlocked nearly everything in
- 11:54Speaker 2: that game because I just was playing it every night
- 11:56Speaker 2: for a couple hours, Like I was just into it right,
- 12:00Speaker 2: and I've got a decent amount of time into the
- 12:02Speaker 2: operating of time, playing through that again, after.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It playing through it, playing on the analog three D
- 12:11Speaker 1: and sixty four emulator. Was it was it fun?
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it plays it just it looks so good.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Even hooked up to my projector, it looked good. Hooked
- 12:19Speaker 2: up to my monitor. Here on, I've got it hooked
- 12:22Speaker 2: up right now. I haven't. I just moved the steps today.
- 12:25Speaker 2: So for those of you watching, you're gonna notice that
- 12:28Speaker 2: the background is different in my in my view, I'm
- 12:30Speaker 2: in a different part of the basement.
- 12:31Speaker 1: First thing, I said to Sean, what's going on?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so I got to work out the lighting a
- 12:38Speaker 2: little bit and change a couple things around. But it
- 12:40Speaker 2: looks better. The nostalgia is it feels and looks like
- 12:45Speaker 2: you were playing it and remembering it as it should
- 12:49Speaker 2: have been, not what it truly is.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Right, like, oh, these.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Graphics were amazing, and like now you look at you
- 12:55Speaker 2: go this graphics is aren't that great? But it plays
- 12:59Speaker 2: really really well on the analog three D. All the
- 13:02Speaker 2: games I have now are are really good, and I
- 13:05Speaker 2: think I'm up to nine games now.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I'm wondering though, if Sean, I you know, I moved
- 13:10Speaker 1: I have an Xbox, I had this Nintendo. We I
- 13:13Speaker 1: remember having you know, the Dreamcast and all that. But
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm just became I became a PC gamer. I became
- 13:21Speaker 1: somebody that is used to mouse and keyboard. Is there
- 13:25Speaker 1: a way to play like Super Mario Brothers on a
- 13:28Speaker 1: mouse and keyboard?
- 13:29Speaker 2: If you get an emulator and play it on your PC?
- 13:31Speaker 2: You can keybind you know, your four arrow buttons and
- 13:35Speaker 2: ab right and do it that way. But there are
- 13:39Speaker 2: very select games for the sixties, the Super Nintendo and
- 13:44Speaker 2: the sixty four, they actually used a mouse. Really, Yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 2: there's a Mario Paint game that used a mouse.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Right, So.
- 13:53Speaker 2: If you're looking for that specific piece of hardware, good luck.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Platformers really weren't designed to be played on keyboard mouse. Yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 2: so it's hard to do that. They're designed for truly
- 14:05Speaker 2: designed for single joystick or dual joystick control.
- 14:08Speaker 1: So did you get any of the free games this
- 14:11Speaker 1: past holiday from Epic or Steam? They were given away
- 14:15Speaker 1: tons of games. Matter of fact, Epic's still doing it.
- 14:18Speaker 1: You can go to epics website and you could download
- 14:20Speaker 1: a free game and it might be a game that
- 14:23Speaker 1: you might like. It may be a game you've never
- 14:26Speaker 1: heard of or it might be a game you used
- 14:27Speaker 1: to have a lot of fun with. So if you
- 14:29Speaker 1: got a new PC or you got a new you know, laptop,
- 14:33Speaker 1: you can actually go on to Epic and you could
- 14:35Speaker 1: download these games for free. You know, he's creating an
- 14:38Speaker 1: account and then you could do that and it doesn't
- 14:39Speaker 1: cost you anything to create an account. But what's nice
- 14:42Speaker 1: about it if you see a game that's on there,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and you know, that's the thing. We don't have the
- 14:47Speaker 1: physical media anymore, you can download the game and you
- 14:50Speaker 1: could play that.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I'll have to I'll have to look and see on
- 14:52Speaker 2: their website right now, but I don't see any of
- 14:54Speaker 2: the free versions free. There's a lot of sales.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah, if you screw to on epix, you have to
- 14:59Speaker 1: scroll down and then you'll see the free I'll.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Look for it and bring it back up. But yeah, no,
- 15:04Speaker 2: I mean, I honestly, outside of playing some Diabloto with
- 15:09Speaker 2: some friends during break, I really just kind of stuck
- 15:11Speaker 2: to playing the classics, really got right back into it.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I mean, my free time was spent playing Mario sixty,
- 15:19Speaker 2: Mario Kart or Operato time. I mean, and then I
- 15:25Speaker 2: also it just brought back the truly playing those games
- 15:29Speaker 2: that I found joy in playing when I was younger.
- 15:32Speaker 2: I've been replaying so Oker. End of Time was the
- 15:37Speaker 2: one that I really wanted to get through, but I
- 15:39Speaker 2: have already put in about twenty five hours. And just
- 15:42Speaker 2: sue Codin, which is a PlayStation platform right JRPG from
- 15:47Speaker 2: back in the early two thousands, late nineties. Yeah, so
- 15:52Speaker 2: I'm just back into good, good storytelling, good games, good
- 15:56Speaker 2: good action.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I told Gloria, I said, one of the games that
- 15:59Speaker 1: I love playing was Donkey Kong, the original Donkey Kong.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I used to go to the arcade. My girlfriend at
- 16:06Speaker 1: the time worked at Pennies in the Wayda park Ball
- 16:09Speaker 1: and we had an arcade in there, and while I
- 16:12Speaker 1: would go to pick her up from work, and I'd
- 16:14Speaker 1: have an hour to kill, hour to kill and a
- 16:17Speaker 1: handfull of quarters, a whole bunch of quarters, and I
- 16:20Speaker 1: would play Donkey Kong constantly. Had that so much fun
- 16:23Speaker 1: with that game. And I told her, I said, gosh,
- 16:25Speaker 1: I wish I could play, you know, Donkey Kong, but
- 16:27Speaker 1: I don't see that anywhere. And she said, she said,
- 16:31Speaker 1: you know, we were at best Buy once and they
- 16:35Speaker 1: had the stand up for that one. The actual arcade
- 16:38Speaker 1: stand up that's put out by I have one of
- 16:40Speaker 1: the stand ups with Golliga and stuff. She said you
- 16:43Speaker 1: should just get that. I'm thinking, wait, are you saying
- 16:45Speaker 1: I could spend the money and buy another stand up game,
- 16:49Speaker 1: which I might end up doing it because Donkey Kong
- 16:51Speaker 1: was a blast. That would be funny.
- 16:54Speaker 2: So I have a friend who owns a barcade back
- 16:56Speaker 2: home in my hometown. And when he opened up, you
- 16:59Speaker 2: could go in and get twenty bucks, spend twenty bucks
- 17:02Speaker 2: and get twenty five dollars worth the tokens. Right, And
- 17:06Speaker 2: my friend, my friend Shane, and I spent twenty dollars
- 17:10Speaker 2: playing through that. He had the four player X Men cabinet, right,
- 17:14Speaker 2: and we just spent we just blew all our money
- 17:16Speaker 2: playing through the X Men. It was so it was
- 17:18Speaker 2: so much fun. My favorite arcade I have two. Yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 2: My two favorite arcade cabinets are Ivan Stewart's Iron Man, right,
- 17:27Speaker 2: the Truck the Truck Racing one, okay, and then the
- 17:30Speaker 2: Turtles and Time cabinet with the four player Turtles and Time.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Cabinet, Oh my gosh, yeah, and then.
- 17:34Speaker 2: The Ninja Turtles, Turtles and Times cabin anytime I found
- 17:37Speaker 2: that I would absolutely just blow my entire allowance or
- 17:39Speaker 2: whatever whatever money my parents gave me to buy gifts
- 17:42Speaker 2: for and just blow it on Turtles and Time, because
- 17:45Speaker 2: that's probably one of my all time favorite games to
- 17:48Speaker 2: play with my brothers was Turtles of Time.
- 17:50Speaker 1: A friend of mine, Mark Wallace is an was an
- 17:52Speaker 1: animator and layout artist. He this guy is so talented.
- 17:57Speaker 1: We used to hang out, you know, before video game
- 18:00Speaker 1: And if you saw the movie Ghostbusters, do you remember
- 18:03Speaker 1: the scene where siggording Weavers sitting in the chair and
- 18:06Speaker 1: the two arms come up and grab her. He designed that.
- 18:09Speaker 1: He also created a chicken with a human head that
- 18:13Speaker 1: never made it in the film, but it's on the
- 18:15Speaker 1: Best of or not the Best of the DVD extras reel,
- 18:18Speaker 1: which is cool. We always said Mark, nobody's gonna ever
- 18:20Speaker 1: see that, and sure enough it came out and had
- 18:24Speaker 1: his name on the artwork he actually worked. I want
- 18:26Speaker 1: to say it was Don Bluth. I think remember Dragon's Layer.
- 18:31Speaker 1: That was Yes, that was a great stand up arcade game.
- 18:35Speaker 1: It was a little more expensive than playing Miss pac
- 18:38Speaker 1: Man or pac Mat or whatever or Centipede, but it
- 18:41Speaker 1: was kind of cool because you moved left and it
- 18:44Speaker 1: would flash and then you moved right. He helped us
- 18:46Speaker 1: do some of the the artwork in that one, and
- 18:49Speaker 1: that was a great That was a great stand up.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I would might have one of those two, and I
- 18:53Speaker 1: think that one might be available somewhere.
- 18:55Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, big announcements of course from CS. You
- 18:58Speaker 1: sent me something today saying did you see this? And
- 19:03Speaker 1: it's from el Gato And if you've ever used el
- 19:06Speaker 1: Gato products, for those that want to do podcasting or
- 19:09Speaker 1: video streaming, el Gato makes all kinds of products to
- 19:12Speaker 1: make it easier. I think the first thing I remember
- 19:15Speaker 1: from El Gato was, you know, the little switchboxes, the
- 19:18Speaker 1: stream deck, and then you saw them going into lighting, cameras, keyboards,
- 19:24Speaker 1: the whole bit. And now they've put something out which
- 19:27Speaker 1: kind of combines all of it.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's called the Galleon one SD. All right,
- 19:33Speaker 2: it's three hundred and fifty bucks. It looks like a
- 19:37Speaker 2: ten keyless keyboard, but the ten key is replaced with
- 19:42Speaker 2: twelve button stream deck with an LCD display and two knobs.
- 19:47Speaker 1: So for our listeners, don't know, maybe they've been thinking
- 19:49Speaker 1: about getting into this. What would a stream deck do
- 19:52Speaker 1: for them? If they wanted to do a podcast or
- 19:55Speaker 1: video cast.
- 19:56Speaker 2: What do you want to control? You can tie it
- 19:58Speaker 2: into home automation. You can tie it into scene control
- 20:01Speaker 2: with OBS. You can tie it into switcher control with
- 20:03Speaker 2: my ATM Mini. You can tie it into lighting. You
- 20:05Speaker 2: can tie it into changing camera angles, changing scenes, changing
- 20:11Speaker 2: web browsers, loading web browsers, loading your email, hot keys, volume, right,
- 20:18Speaker 2: I mean you really there's no limit with the stream deck,
- 20:22Speaker 2: especially if you tie it. So you have stream Deck,
- 20:27Speaker 2: which is its own hardware and software solution. There is
- 20:31Speaker 2: a free software that you can also get called bit
- 20:33Speaker 2: Focused Companion, which ties in a lot more professional broadcast
- 20:38Speaker 2: related software that can tie in professional broadcast equipment into
- 20:43Speaker 2: a stream deck, which is we use them pretty pretty
- 20:46Speaker 2: extensively at the university.
- 20:49Speaker 1: So could you essentially, so say you use OBS Studio
- 20:54Speaker 1: and you have stream Deck, and you have button one
- 20:56Speaker 1: could be one camera, button two could be a second camera,
- 21:00Speaker 1: but button three combining button one and two into a
- 21:03Speaker 1: two shot, could you set that up up.
- 21:06Speaker 2: So that so that gets tricky? Right? So it all
- 21:09Speaker 2: depends on how you capture the capture them right. So
- 21:12Speaker 2: this is where things get tricky with cameras and inputs devices, right,
- 21:16Speaker 2: because if you have it's like, my two cameras are
- 21:18Speaker 2: coming into my ten Mini. I could picture and picture
- 21:21Speaker 2: them in the in the A ten Mini and have
- 21:22Speaker 2: the ATM Mini do that. But I can't have OBS
- 21:26Speaker 2: bring in golf cameras because it's being used by the
- 21:30Speaker 2: aten Mini. But if I had a separate HDMI captured
- 21:32Speaker 2: card and had both coming in as two separate sources,
- 21:35Speaker 2: then yes, I could build and design two boxes, three boxes,
- 21:38Speaker 2: four boxes, splits, squads, whatever, using custom keys and hot keys.
- 21:44Speaker 2: In stream deck. It's got an OBS native plug in,
- 21:48Speaker 2: so it ties in directly with your OBS. It's super
- 21:51Speaker 2: super easy to set up. I mean I haven't set
- 21:53Speaker 2: up in mind that I can go to my left
- 21:54Speaker 2: screen ATM Mini and I screwed it up.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Of course, all we got was a black screen.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I'm like, so it must not be oh you know what,
- 22:03Speaker 2: because I don't have my second Ethernet cable, run to
- 22:06Speaker 2: my new box, screwed on my I screwed on my Well,
- 22:10Speaker 2: this is.
- 22:10Speaker 1: If you remember when Matt redid his studio, it took
- 22:14Speaker 1: a little while to work the bugs out, so which
- 22:16Speaker 1: is exactly what you're doing.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so new setup and I haven't really workflowed my
- 22:22Speaker 2: whole setup because I just I just finished putting it
- 22:24Speaker 2: back together to day and vacuum the basement and all stuff.
- 22:27Speaker 1: So but this completely This El Gatto keyboard, though, could
- 22:30Speaker 1: really help in many ways. It could give you productivity
- 22:34Speaker 1: but also enabled you to do so.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Think of it. Think of it like this. Right, you're
- 22:38Speaker 2: playing a video game, you're keep handing a keyboard in
- 22:40Speaker 2: your mouse, and you have a break. You could just
- 22:42Speaker 2: instead of having to go and reach up. My stream
- 22:45Speaker 2: deck is underneath my monitor, so I'm reaching up here
- 22:47Speaker 2: to touch my stream deck. I now could just have
- 22:49Speaker 2: it right next to my hand and not have to
- 22:51Speaker 2: look down. It's or if you are looking up. But
- 22:54Speaker 2: it's got like I said, it's got two knobs on
- 22:56Speaker 2: the top. It's got an LCD readout, so you can
- 22:59Speaker 2: have it set up to do whatever you want. Plus
- 23:01Speaker 2: twelve buttons, so mine currently has fifteen, so it's three less.
- 23:06Speaker 2: But you can go to a new page. You can
- 23:08Speaker 2: do all.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Sorts of stuff, so pretty cool stuff. You can find
- 23:11Speaker 1: that on their website El Gato. Just look them up.
- 23:13Speaker 1: E L G A t O, which means the cat
- 23:17Speaker 1: we got to take a quick break. We come back.
- 23:19Speaker 1: We have a couple of listener questions. We will share
- 23:21Speaker 1: with you some great comments on the last show that
- 23:24Speaker 1: we did where we talked about do you turn your
- 23:27Speaker 1: computer off at night? So we'll cover some of those.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I can subscribe to us on your favorite podcasting platform
- 23:34Speaker 2: of choice and find us on the web at tech
- 23:36Speaker 2: talk radio dot com.
- 23:37Speaker 1: We'll be back and now back to tech talk Radio.
- 23:40Speaker 2: During the break, we discussed a couple of listener questions
- 23:42Speaker 2: and and he felt fit that I was the right
- 23:45Speaker 2: guy to do this because I have done this.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yes, well, we've talked about it.
- 23:50Speaker 2: This is this should just be my catchphrase for the show.
- 23:52Speaker 2: We've talked about this on the show before. Could I
- 23:55Speaker 2: say that all the time? Well, we've talked about this
- 23:57Speaker 2: in the show before. I've talked about this show four
- 23:59Speaker 2: when it.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Comes, when it can. Of the digitizing, we're talking photos,
- 24:02Speaker 1: we're talking film. You've done film, negatives and vhs.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I've done eight milimeters, super eight high eight tapes,
- 24:12Speaker 2: mini dv vhs. You don't wait to max.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I need to figure out how to do mini dv
- 24:18Speaker 1: I got so many many dvs laying around, but I
- 24:20Speaker 1: don't have a mini DV player.
- 24:22Speaker 2: I have a mini DV deck right that will do it.
- 24:26Speaker 2: They have fires, FireWire and all this stuff.
- 24:28Speaker 1: So yeah, I was thinking of just getting the camera
- 24:31Speaker 1: fixed and then people sell cameras for two to three
- 24:33Speaker 1: hundred bucks, but yeah, you can. Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Anyways, so the listener question is in the line of
- 24:39Speaker 2: VHS tapes all right. Scott from Palm Springs wrote it
- 24:44Speaker 2: and said, I found a bunch of VHS tapes and
- 24:47Speaker 2: I want to digitize them, but I want to do
- 24:48Speaker 2: it myself. I thought one of those kids but my friends.
- 24:52Speaker 2: My friend said he would lend me his, but I
- 24:55Speaker 2: wanted to look good. I saw an RGB capture card
- 24:58Speaker 2: on Amazon. Is that better? And this kit from you
- 25:00Speaker 2: lead You didn't link it to us, so I'm not
- 25:03Speaker 2: sure what that does have to find it, but there
- 25:07Speaker 2: are You want to make sure that it's a USB A.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It'll be an RCA you yellow red white to USB
- 25:15Speaker 2: capture card. You want to make sure it's gonna come
- 25:18Speaker 2: with some sort of software. Now you can go to
- 25:21Speaker 2: black Magic and get their Studio Express software for free
- 25:26Speaker 2: to capture. Really, if you're on Macro, Windows, or you
- 25:30Speaker 2: can capture within final cut itself typically, but you got
- 25:32Speaker 2: to be careful because those are your usually gonna be
- 25:34Speaker 2: progress or higher, right, so it's gonna eat up a
- 25:37Speaker 2: lot of storage. You're looking for something that's gonna capture
- 25:40Speaker 2: into a compressed form of like HG six four or
- 25:42Speaker 2: six five. I brought mine in HDMI, so the device
- 25:48Speaker 2: I have takes takes rca composite in to HDMI out
- 25:53Speaker 2: and will actually upscale it to seven to twenty P,
- 25:55Speaker 2: so it takes it from five five twenty five I
- 25:58Speaker 2: to seven twenty P.
- 25:59Speaker 1: That's good.
- 26:00Speaker 2: It did. Okay, it was okay for what it was.
- 26:03Speaker 2: But you're gonna want to find one that has a
- 26:04Speaker 2: software capture that won't just do pro res or some
- 26:07Speaker 2: sort of raw format that you're gonna just eat up
- 26:09Speaker 2: a ton of bit of storage. I will recommend this
- 26:12Speaker 2: is going to be like down the rabbit hole for
- 26:14Speaker 2: a lot of people, but it has a lot of
- 26:15Speaker 2: resources for people that don't want to jump all the
- 26:18Speaker 2: way down the rabbit hole but want to get to
- 26:20Speaker 2: a certain level. There's a subreddit called vhs decode, which
- 26:24Speaker 2: is a group of hardware hackers that are actually hardware hacking.
- 26:28Speaker 2: They're VHS players to capture the true r F output
- 26:33Speaker 2: of the VHS players instead of actually taking the video output,
- 26:36Speaker 2: So it's actually taking the RF signal as it's being
- 26:39Speaker 2: translated from the tape before it gets converted back to video.
- 26:43Speaker 2: But the wiki on the sidebar has a lot of
- 26:45Speaker 2: help for people that are like, hey, I found this subreddit.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I don't know how to do all this stuff, but
- 26:51Speaker 2: here's devices you can buy that will do what you
- 26:53Speaker 2: need to do.
- 26:53Speaker 1: So, Sean, what do you think about this? There are
- 26:56Speaker 1: different software companies out there now that are using artificial
- 26:59Speaker 1: Intel AI, just like we could do with Gemini, or
- 27:03Speaker 1: to have it fixed photos, which you know I've had
- 27:05Speaker 1: fun experiencing. There are some that will say that they
- 27:09Speaker 1: can take video that is four eighty and really cleaning
- 27:13Speaker 1: it up and make it seven twenty looking. I mean,
- 27:16Speaker 1: is that Is it worth doing something like that or
- 27:19Speaker 1: does it depend on the video itself?
- 27:21Speaker 2: Depends on the video itself. All it's doing is interpolating
- 27:24Speaker 2: frames and blending it and smoothing it out and making
- 27:27Speaker 2: it look good. It's up to you if it's important
- 27:29Speaker 2: to you. I would say, don't do AI if you
- 27:32Speaker 2: don't want it to change what you're capturing. But again,
- 27:35Speaker 2: i'm a little bit of an ai A sayer. So
- 27:38Speaker 2: you can buy an RCA to HDMI device and either
- 27:42Speaker 2: use a capture card like in Algatto four K capture
- 27:45Speaker 2: card or some other cheap HDMI to USB and then
- 27:49Speaker 2: use OBS to capture it if if you're technically savvy,
- 27:53Speaker 2: you can use plethora of other options. But right, it's
- 27:57Speaker 2: relatively inexpensive to do yourself. The downside is it's real time, right,
- 28:02Speaker 2: There's no getting around that. Right, there's no way of
- 28:05Speaker 2: getting around that. The concept of if you have ten
- 28:07Speaker 2: hours of content, you're watching ten hours of content. There's
- 28:11Speaker 2: no way around that. Trust me, I went through hundreds
- 28:16Speaker 2: of hours of content when I did my family stuff.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I mean hundreds of hours of tapes of tapes MiniDV
- 28:23Speaker 2: high eight, super eight eight millimeters, super eight millimeter, sixteen milimeter.
- 28:26Speaker 2: It's very rewarding. I've been told by a lot of
- 28:29Speaker 2: my family members that not a lot of people would
- 28:31Speaker 2: spend the time to do it. Yeah, because it's time consuming.
- 28:34Speaker 2: It's that that's the biggest complaint, The biggest frustration for
- 28:38Speaker 2: capturing analog media is that it's time consuming. So again,
- 28:43Speaker 2: you can pay somebody to do it. You can get
- 28:45Speaker 2: a shoe box, tape it up, send it in, you
- 28:48Speaker 2: get a file back, or you legacy box I think
- 28:50Speaker 2: is one we've talked about on the show before, and
- 28:53Speaker 2: a couple other options that are out there.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I think scan my photos by Mitch who's been on
- 28:57Speaker 1: the show a few times. I think they do that too,
- 28:59Speaker 1: So that's pretty cool. So but if you want to
- 29:02Speaker 1: do it yourself, I mean U Lead does have a kit.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I know Diamond used to have a kit, which I
- 29:07Speaker 1: think I may even have one of those laying around.
- 29:10Speaker 1: You have a DV hopefully you have a VHS deck,
- 29:14Speaker 1: a VCR if it has that, you know our GV
- 29:17Speaker 1: output on it. Don't forget they even have the ones
- 29:19Speaker 1: where you could play the video and record onto a DVD.
- 29:22Speaker 2: You could you could do that too if you wanted to.
- 29:24Speaker 2: But again, then you're onto another physical format, right, You're
- 29:27Speaker 2: not digital. You're not digital. You are you're technically digital
- 29:30Speaker 2: at that point, right, but you're not to a point
- 29:32Speaker 2: where you could put it on the web or do
- 29:35Speaker 2: that if you unless you ripped it from the DVD
- 29:37Speaker 2: after that point, But then you're now you're in a
- 29:40Speaker 2: third generation, and you're compressed, and then you're uncompressed. You're
- 29:43Speaker 2: going from analog dumping two back to a different.
- 29:45Speaker 1: By that time people give up, Yeah, yeah, a couple
- 29:48Speaker 1: of hour.
- 29:48Speaker 2: By that time people give up, or the quality has
- 29:50Speaker 2: just gotten so bad because you're compressing and uncompressing so
- 29:53Speaker 2: many times. But just go on Amazon, find a kit
- 29:56Speaker 2: that you think is gonna work, spend a couple of
- 29:58Speaker 2: dollars and give it a rip.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and give it a try. Let us know how
- 30:02Speaker 1: that goes, Scott, because that would be kind of cool.
- 30:04Speaker 1: That would be neat to see. We had some comments
- 30:08Speaker 1: and I wanted to share with you, and we're available
- 30:11Speaker 1: on YouTube, We're available on TikTok, We're available on reels Facebook,
- 30:15Speaker 1: of course, and we talked about shutting down your computers
- 30:19Speaker 1: at night and it generated some interests. You know, you're
- 30:23Speaker 1: gonna be way longer than a couple of hours. You
- 30:26Speaker 1: know what is your process? And your comment was that
- 30:29Speaker 1: you know pretty much you do, but then again, you
- 30:31Speaker 1: have a plex server that you leave on. We had
- 30:35Speaker 1: some comments, like from a guy named Fungus. It's a
- 30:38Speaker 1: great name, said, my plexed computer has been turned on
- 30:41Speaker 1: for six years now is that possible of you.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Oh why not? So Yeah, it's all one hundred possible
- 30:48Speaker 2: unless you have a power outage. You move it, you
- 30:50Speaker 2: unplug it. There's nothing stopping on a computer from being
- 30:53Speaker 2: on as long as the electrons are flowing.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Another comment from Thomas said, I only shut down my
- 30:57Speaker 1: PC because of the RGB and it's in my bedroom. Yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 1: that's the thing with these new gaming towers. End up
- 31:03Speaker 1: lighting up the world and you're trying to sleep. You
- 31:05Speaker 1: got that RGV light going on. It says my Raspberry
- 31:08Speaker 1: Pie is always on though that you don't really have
- 31:10Speaker 1: a reason to turn those off.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Outside of keeping them cool. Right, If you have it
- 31:15Speaker 2: on and it's just it's hot, it's in a bad
- 31:17Speaker 2: environment and it's just gonna get heat. Heats what kills electronics. Right,
- 31:21Speaker 2: unless you're in a really awful environment, high moisture environment,
- 31:25Speaker 2: keep your PC. It's not gonna kill it. You're just
- 31:27Speaker 2: gonna it's If it's idle, you can buy devices that
- 31:30Speaker 2: will check your idle power and see how much you're drawing. Right,
- 31:33Speaker 2: if you're worried about your electrical bill, all right, But
- 31:36Speaker 2: for the most part, computers when they're idol don't draw
- 31:38Speaker 2: that much power unless you have something crazy mining bitcoin
- 31:42Speaker 2: or you know, doing something weird in the background, it's
- 31:44Speaker 2: gonna be fine to reiterate that what we talked about before.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I shut my computer down every night, my PC. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 2: it's been a habit from the dawn of time for me.
- 31:54Speaker 2: When your computer actually told you was safe to turn
- 31:56Speaker 2: your machine off.
- 31:57Speaker 1: One one here I wanted to share. A soldier first
- 31:59Speaker 1: Class said, I have you know, I've had a few
- 32:03Speaker 1: power supplies. Go back to my PLEX servers. I have
- 32:06Speaker 1: a scheduled task that shuts it down at midnight every night,
- 32:10Speaker 1: so I just hit the power button. Then has another
- 32:12Speaker 1: scheduled task to start the PLEX service on startup as well. Now,
- 32:16Speaker 1: for our listeners don't know what is PLEX service? What
- 32:18Speaker 1: does that mean?
- 32:19Speaker 2: Plex is a media platform that you can download and
- 32:23Speaker 2: install on a computer, host your own media on it,
- 32:26Speaker 2: and then stream that media across your network. It's basically
- 32:30Speaker 2: a server. This is something that took me a long
- 32:32Speaker 2: time when I was younger. I was like, oh my gosh,
- 32:34Speaker 2: a server. It's this immediately think data center, tons of power,
- 32:40Speaker 2: tons of fans, right right, No, it could run on
- 32:43Speaker 2: a Raspberry Pie, it can run on your Mac Mini.
- 32:45Speaker 2: It can run on an old laptop. It can run
- 32:47Speaker 2: whatever runs on Linux, Windows, Mac arm right, it runs
- 32:51Speaker 2: on all these platforms. You install it, you point it
- 32:54Speaker 2: to the media on your hard drive that's attached to
- 32:56Speaker 2: that computer. You say, organized by movie, TV show, whatever.
- 33:01Speaker 2: You download the app on your phone. You go download
- 33:04Speaker 2: the PLEX app on your desktop for Mac, Windows or Linux,
- 33:07Speaker 2: and you're off to the race is watching the content
- 33:09Speaker 2: from your computer, whether it's upstairs, your bedroom, on the road,
- 33:12Speaker 2: et cetera. Because you can tie it in. You open
- 33:15Speaker 2: the ports on your router and you can see the
- 33:16Speaker 2: outside world.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Basically doing that, you have your favorite movies. You can
- 33:20Speaker 1: have your favorite movies. You don't have to worry about
- 33:22Speaker 1: Netflix pulling them off. If you've bought the DVDs, you
- 33:24Speaker 1: could rip them, put them on your PLEX server and
- 33:26Speaker 1: be able to watch them anytime you want, if you're
- 33:28Speaker 1: traveling or your ORC makes it nice.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Yeah, So the way I do it right, So I
- 33:33Speaker 2: have a PLEX server here at home. I've got a
- 33:36Speaker 2: four terabyte hard drive that is full of my movies,
- 33:38Speaker 2: my Blu rays, my DVDs, my home videos, TV shows
- 33:42Speaker 2: that I've got copies of right music.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Eah, except I think Plex is also doing now photos,
- 33:47Speaker 1: you could upload your photos, so if you want to
- 33:49Speaker 1: have a photo library from your smartphone, you can actually
- 33:51Speaker 1: upload that to your PLEX server.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Yeah, so then all your media lives at home, meaning
- 33:56Speaker 2: if you have an Internet outage, but your router and
- 33:58Speaker 2: everything's still connected, you can still stream the media from
- 34:00Speaker 2: your Pleux server. So what I did was I took
- 34:04Speaker 2: a two terabyte USB drive and a Raspberry Pie and
- 34:09Speaker 2: a TP link nano router plugged into a twelve O
- 34:12Speaker 2: car battery plugged into my camper. So then when we're
- 34:15Speaker 2: on the road traveling, I have access to my mini
- 34:20Speaker 2: plex server that I can then stream the YouTube videos
- 34:24Speaker 2: that I've downloaded for the boys, movies, TV shows, et cetera.
- 34:27Speaker 2: That way, when we're traveling, if we don't have access
- 34:30Speaker 2: to internet, can't stream something, I can just fire out
- 34:34Speaker 2: my Raspberry Pie and this little mini WiFi router, connet
- 34:36Speaker 2: my phone to it and watch movies in our camper
- 34:40Speaker 2: or while driving or et cetera.
- 34:41Speaker 1: So it's not that expensive, is It depends on.
- 34:44Speaker 2: What you do. Yeah, I recommend doing the Lifetime pass.
- 34:47Speaker 2: The Plex pass. It's a one time fee. It's like
- 34:50Speaker 2: I think it's close to two hundred dollars now, but
- 34:52Speaker 2: then you it's lifetime. Jellyfin and MB are free. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 34:57Speaker 2: which Jellfin and MB are two other and Cody Cody's
- 35:01Speaker 2: another one. Those ones I'm fairly certain are free. I
- 35:04Speaker 2: don't want to say free for sure. Just check them out.
- 35:07Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's all I can tell you is
- 35:10Speaker 2: just go play with them, have fun. Download Plex, put
- 35:13Speaker 2: your media on it, rip your DVDs. Handbrake is the
- 35:16Speaker 2: program of choice for DVDs. Make mkv is the platform
- 35:21Speaker 2: of choice for Blu rays, rip and have fun. They'll
- 35:25Speaker 2: buy a four terabyte hard drive and just dump your
- 35:27Speaker 2: media out of it.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Now, I know some people will take their PLEX and
- 35:30Speaker 1: they will not have it hosted on their computer. They'll
- 35:33Speaker 1: plug it right into the router. Is that a good idea?
- 35:38Speaker 2: Well? Sure, I mean that's how I have it here, right,
- 35:40Speaker 2: I've got a tower in the back room in a
- 35:43Speaker 2: RAQ that's wired into the router. That's how I do it. Now,
- 35:49Speaker 2: you have local sharing, But then if you're if you're
- 35:53Speaker 2: out and about and you want to watch something on
- 35:55Speaker 2: your pluck server off your phone, you can't enable your
- 35:59Speaker 2: pluck server to reach out to the outside world and
- 36:02Speaker 2: stream from your your home through the public internet to
- 36:07Speaker 2: your device. I don't recommend doing that that there's too
- 36:11Speaker 2: many there's too many bad actors out there looking for vulnerabilities.
- 36:19Speaker 2: And you know, unless you're keeping up to date on
- 36:22Speaker 2: your security and you're updating your the security the server
- 36:25Speaker 2: every time, every time you get a security patch, it's
- 36:28Speaker 2: just not worth the risk in my opinion. For the
- 36:32Speaker 2: for what I need to watch, I'll just watch something
- 36:34Speaker 2: on Netflix or Amazon and deal with the ads, like
- 36:38Speaker 2: for if I'm out and about. But because you gotta remember, right,
- 36:43Speaker 2: do you remember what happened with last Pass? Last Pass
- 36:46Speaker 2: got hacked right because one of their developers was running
- 36:50Speaker 2: a unpatched plux server that got compromised and they got
- 36:55Speaker 2: in and were able to get in and see all this.
- 36:58Speaker 2: You know, they sat on a system for a period
- 37:00Speaker 2: of time and then we're able to access. So don't
- 37:05Speaker 2: leave things unpatched. If you're gonna do that, be vigilant
- 37:07Speaker 2: and have a security plan and take care of that.
- 37:09Speaker 1: All right, sounds good, We're gonna take another quick break.
- 37:11Speaker 1: We come back. We have another listener question that we
- 37:14Speaker 1: will share with you coming up, and a couple of
- 37:16Speaker 1: cool announcements. I've got a couple of gadgets i want
- 37:18Speaker 1: to show you to see what you think about it.
- 37:20Speaker 1: We haven't talked about those yet. That's coming up with
- 37:22Speaker 1: tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I'm sean to word to find us on YouTube at
- 37:26Speaker 2: tech talk radio and give us a like and subscribe.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Hit that smash that button back to tip talk Radio.
- 37:35Speaker 2: During the break, I did confirm that if you just
- 37:38Speaker 2: want to watch your own media on your own server,
- 37:41Speaker 2: on your own network, it is free.
- 37:43Speaker 1: All right, Plex all right, plex flex dot tv is
- 37:46Speaker 1: our website.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Plex do tv. If you want to extend it
- 37:50Speaker 2: to remote viewing to review outside of your home, add
- 37:54Speaker 2: a slew of extra features. Either pay monthly or you
- 37:59Speaker 2: buy the Plex pass right so you guys can look
- 38:01Speaker 2: it up on your own. I'm not going to go
- 38:03Speaker 2: into it. There's a slew of features that you get
- 38:05Speaker 2: with with plex pass and or the monthly payment, but.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Right check it out.
- 38:10Speaker 2: But I highly recommend just playing with it.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lot of fun. If you have the
- 38:16Speaker 1: videos that you've you know, you've got over the years
- 38:18Speaker 1: that you went ahead and en coded. Just give it
- 38:21Speaker 1: a try and see what you think about it. You know,
- 38:23Speaker 1: originally my my son wanted to watch stuff, and my
- 38:26Speaker 1: daughter wanted to watch stuff that Oh hey, can I
- 38:28Speaker 1: see mom and Dad's you know, wedding video or I
- 38:30Speaker 1: could see that again. Oh yeah, I'll put it on
- 38:32Speaker 1: plex and there you go. Then they could you could
- 38:34Speaker 1: share it that way.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Well that's so. I mean, I have all my family
- 38:38Speaker 2: stuff on my plex o. Were also right because at
- 38:40Speaker 2: one point I did have it open when I was
- 38:43Speaker 2: first doing all my scanning and stuff, so that people
- 38:46Speaker 2: could see it and watch the videos a lot heavy
- 38:47Speaker 2: to host them to YouTube, and that's cool. Export, export
- 38:50Speaker 2: every single one, et cetera, et cetera, etcetera.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Actually, somebody, here's a good question. You just mentioned it.
- 38:55Speaker 1: So I got to ask. Somebody asked, they've never been
- 38:58Speaker 1: on YouTube. They want to create ate a YouTube page.
- 39:01Speaker 1: How hard is that?
- 39:03Speaker 2: Never been on YouTube?
- 39:04Speaker 1: Never been well, never been on YouTube as a creator?
- 39:07Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, how.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Have you exist? How have you existed since the year
- 39:11Speaker 2: two thousand and four?
- 39:12Speaker 1: They've seen videos on YouTube, but now they want to
- 39:14Speaker 1: have their own channel. How hard is that is it?
- 39:17Speaker 1: I mean, we were one. It's not one of the
- 39:19Speaker 1: waybacks you know, so I forget.
- 39:22Speaker 2: If you have a Google account, Yeah, you already have
- 39:25Speaker 2: a YouTube channel.
- 39:26Speaker 1: All right, so just give you to go.
- 39:30Speaker 2: I think it makes you create a username. But if
- 39:35Speaker 2: you have a video that's ready to go, you just
- 39:38Speaker 2: go to YouTube dot com clicking on create create content.
- 39:42Speaker 2: It's like the up ray head corn looks a little camera,
- 39:44Speaker 2: upload video, You're done.
- 39:46Speaker 1: They even have a new a new thing called YouTube Creator,
- 39:50Speaker 1: which you could put on your smartphone and you can
- 39:51Speaker 1: create cool videos out of photos or just something quick.
- 39:55Speaker 1: The I think the ingestion right now of long form
- 39:58Speaker 1: media is good, but short form media is what people
- 40:03Speaker 1: are watching right now. You know, I've been sucked into
- 40:07Speaker 1: YouTube short slately.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's bad and it's it's funny when you know,
- 40:14Speaker 2: Caylin and I will be at home and the boys
- 40:16Speaker 2: are asleep and we're just kind of doom scrolling on
- 40:18Speaker 2: our phones before we go to bed, and Kayler will
- 40:21Speaker 2: be just watching over my shoulder or sitting there. She goes,
- 40:23Speaker 2: that is such a sean stream, like your your every
- 40:27Speaker 2: short you go, all right, there's a soldering video. Help,
- 40:30Speaker 2: there's a video game video. There's there's tech talk. Hope,
- 40:34Speaker 2: there's another there's there's another analog video game something. There's
- 40:39Speaker 2: a photography one. Oh, there's a dirt bike one. It's like,
- 40:43Speaker 2: it's such a catered thing to me because I I
- 40:47Speaker 2: I when I when I do my streams, right, you
- 40:51Speaker 2: can really control what you see. Yeah, a lot of
- 40:55Speaker 2: people will just swipe, you know, they just swipe to
- 40:58Speaker 2: the next thing. Right. If you don't like a video
- 41:01Speaker 2: or you don't want to see more of it, thumb
- 41:03Speaker 2: it down.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Really, it'll never show you like it.
- 41:07Speaker 2: If you like it, give it a thumbs up, it
- 41:09Speaker 2: will aggregate for you based on what you're telling it
- 41:12Speaker 2: you like, and you'll start seeing more of the content
- 41:15Speaker 2: you thumb up and less of the content you thumb down.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Okay, thumbs up, please, yeah, thumbos up give us.
- 41:21Speaker 2: But even the content like the people that you're subscribed to,
- 41:24Speaker 2: you may not like a video they did and you
- 41:26Speaker 2: can thumb it down and you'll get less content from
- 41:29Speaker 2: them in that theme right, right, And it's crazy how
- 41:34Speaker 2: quickly you can adjust your own algorithm.
- 41:37Speaker 1: So for anybody thinking maybe they got in late to
- 41:40Speaker 1: the game, because it's the discussion I had with this
- 41:42Speaker 1: gentleman that wants to do a YouTube. If you're thinking
- 41:45Speaker 1: you got in late to the game and you're thinking
- 41:47Speaker 1: I can't create content to compete. Now, you know, find
- 41:51Speaker 1: your niche find your audience, which you can do, and
- 41:54Speaker 1: they will keep coming back. Just be true to your audience.
- 41:57Speaker 1: They will come back. I found out something today that
- 42:00Speaker 1: shocked me. You have kids, you're familiar with it. I'm
- 42:04Speaker 1: sure Ryan's World. Have you ever seen Ryan's World?
- 42:08Speaker 2: Okay, maybe I'm gonna look that doesn't sound familiar.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Ryan's World is a kid named Ryan who has a brother,
- 42:15Speaker 1: I think two sisters, and then his mom and dad.
- 42:19Speaker 1: They're very young, young family, and they create content. And
- 42:23Speaker 1: sometimes the content is just with them playing around with
- 42:26Speaker 1: filters or playing games, or going on a trip somewhere
- 42:29Speaker 1: or learning this, and they're very just it's bright situations.
- 42:34Speaker 1: It's you know, the home is nice and the people
- 42:37Speaker 1: are nice. They have fun. And my grandson loves watching
- 42:41Speaker 1: Ryan's World. Matter of fact, he'll come in on a Monday.
- 42:46Speaker 1: He's dropped off Monday mornings and you know, Grandpa will
- 42:49Speaker 1: be on TV doing my segment at Fox, and I'll say, well,
- 42:52Speaker 1: I want to see my segment if I did one
- 42:54Speaker 1: from home, and he'll say, you could tape it. He
- 42:57Speaker 1: wants to watch Ryan's World. He doesn't know what watch
- 43:00Speaker 1: Grandpa on TV. But I did some searching today and
- 43:05Speaker 1: I was talking about that because we were watching it today,
- 43:07Speaker 1: Ryan's World, and I said to Gloria, I go, do
- 43:10Speaker 1: you think you could do that? You know, I have
- 43:11Speaker 1: fun on the camera like that, playing with filters and
- 43:13Speaker 1: the kids having a good time. She said, yeah, probably
- 43:16Speaker 1: doesn't pay enough. I looked it up, Sean this family,
- 43:20Speaker 1: Ryan's World. Thirty five million dollars a year is what
- 43:24Speaker 1: they're making for these videos. But not just the videos.
- 43:27Speaker 1: They've created a brand with Ryan's World. They sell shirts,
- 43:30Speaker 1: they sell toys, they sell they come into agreements, partner
- 43:34Speaker 1: agreements on you know, cameras, toys, artwork, photos. It's it's amazing.
- 43:40Speaker 1: So it's never too late. Somebody's thinking, I really want
- 43:43Speaker 1: to do this. I have this idea, give it a shot.
- 43:46Speaker 1: And see they have.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Forty million subscribers. Yeah, and forty point two millions. It
- 43:54Speaker 2: was great. That's forty point one million more than we have.
- 44:00Speaker 1: We're slowly growing, and it's funny we're growing growing, and then.
- 44:04Speaker 2: I'll start coming for your bucket share.
- 44:06Speaker 1: And then I will see somebody dropped off. They're not
- 44:09Speaker 1: subscribed anymore. It's just the way it works.
- 44:11Speaker 2: So at this point, at this point, we lose like
- 44:13Speaker 2: ten when.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Leaves, yeah, with somebody like ah, man, you had to
- 44:18Speaker 1: leave us. But this Ryan's world family though, I mean
- 44:21Speaker 1: thirty five million bucks a year and again, uh, they
- 44:24Speaker 1: just did it smart and it's not too late. If
- 44:26Speaker 1: you look at missus Rachel, same thing. You know, Miss
- 44:29Speaker 1: Rachel makes a ton of money as well.
- 44:31Speaker 2: So yeah, it's it's crazy, like it's hard to tell
- 44:36Speaker 2: somebody that you can make it big on the internet.
- 44:38Speaker 2: But because there are just so much right, you gotta
- 44:41Speaker 2: be creative. You gotta break the mold. You gotta get lucky,
- 44:43Speaker 2: you gotta it's not easy work.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Well no, yeah, I'm sure job. Nobody's editing these yeah,
- 44:51Speaker 1: so yeah, yeah, So all right, here here's a question
- 44:54Speaker 1: from Antonio and Celia. Love your show, guys, but I'm
- 44:57Speaker 1: having a dilemma. I have been told to clean up
- 45:00Speaker 1: my garage or else. My wife says it's or else.
- 45:04Speaker 1: There you go, just ended with that. My wife says,
- 45:07Speaker 1: it's time to get rid of all my towers and
- 45:08Speaker 1: keyboards and a few you sonic CRTs so what do
- 45:13Speaker 1: I do?
- 45:14Speaker 2: Here's my address, here's Andy's address.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Send it all. Yeah, uh is there a way?
- 45:25Speaker 2: There is a proper way. Right. So here in the beautiful,
- 45:32Speaker 2: brisk Midwest, Saint Joe County has a hazardous waste and
- 45:38Speaker 2: Electronic disposal. You just show up with the trucklow stuff.
- 45:43Speaker 2: They bring out a cart. You dump it in there, right.
- 45:45Speaker 2: They ask you if you want a receipt. You say sure,
- 45:49Speaker 2: They give you a receipt. Okay, I'm hard pressed to
- 45:52Speaker 2: tell somebody you just go in and throw it away
- 45:54Speaker 2: because I want to know what's in it.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I would. I would say, if you're gonna get
- 45:58Speaker 1: rid of the towers, make sure that those high drives
- 46:00Speaker 1: are pulled out. Put those they don't take up that
- 46:03Speaker 1: much space, right, pull our.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Drives, drove through them. If you're just getting looking to
- 46:07Speaker 2: get rid of them, beat them up, smashing with a
- 46:09Speaker 2: hammer or whatever. Take them apart, take the magnets out.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Be careful.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Will fly off. Though I've been hitting ahead with a magnet.
- 46:16Speaker 1: It's not good.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Magics are very strong. But I would just google your
- 46:23Speaker 2: county plus Hazardous waste or electronic disposal, and most municipalities
- 46:28Speaker 2: have a free service that you can just show up
- 46:32Speaker 2: and drop off electronics.
- 46:34Speaker 1: The Computer Technology Association also has greener gadgets. I believe
- 46:38Speaker 1: dot org. If you go there, they will tell you,
- 46:41Speaker 1: depending on where your ZIP code is, they will tell
- 46:44Speaker 1: you where you may be able to dispose some of this.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Sometimes they want a few bucks for the disposal. Other
- 46:50Speaker 1: times you may find people who are just companies that
- 46:53Speaker 1: are just taking it in and completely recycling it. So
- 46:56Speaker 1: greener gadgets.
- 46:57Speaker 2: You can also just post it up Facebook and Marketplace
- 47:01Speaker 2: or let it Go or whatever and say free. Yeah,
- 47:05Speaker 2: and you'd be surprised how many people come and pick
- 47:07Speaker 2: up other people's junk for free, to part it out
- 47:10Speaker 2: or to resell it, or to use it for their
- 47:13Speaker 2: own personal gain whatever.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Antonio, we feel your pain, though, we do.
- 47:18Speaker 2: I mean, do you remember when my head my friend's
- 47:21Speaker 2: uncle who passed, who was a who was a computer hoarder,
- 47:25Speaker 2: and I ended up getting hundreds of towers, Like, we
- 47:29Speaker 2: ended up going through hundreds of towers?
- 47:31Speaker 1: Wow, you know you remember all that, right? I thought
- 47:34Speaker 1: it was like four or five towers that you got.
- 47:36Speaker 2: No, in total, I helped him probably salvage one hundred
- 47:41Speaker 2: and fifty towers.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Oh, my lord.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, because of it was. I mean, he had
- 47:46Speaker 2: an whole entire house full of computer stuff.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I'm cleaning doing. I know, I have an Antonio and
- 47:51Speaker 1: if you want to do this, I have a couple
- 47:52Speaker 1: of half nine thirty two cases, the big gigantic ones.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I was sick and I've got old boards sitting around,
- 47:58Speaker 1: popping a board in there, installing you know, a Linux
- 48:02Speaker 1: OS on there and selling it a workie computer, you know,
- 48:06Speaker 1: power supplies and it's still good. It's you know, not
- 48:09Speaker 1: the best at like a two fifty or three hundred,
- 48:11Speaker 1: just selling it working Linux computer. Somebody may want to
- 48:15Speaker 1: get in a Linux and pay you know, one hundred
- 48:17Speaker 1: bucks for this, so why not? That might be Antonio.
- 48:20Speaker 1: You may look at something doing something like that. That
- 48:22Speaker 1: might work. Ship it to me, ship it to shod.
- 48:26Speaker 1: All right, we got to show you a couple of things,
- 48:28Speaker 1: a couple of tech gadgets that I wanted to show
- 48:31Speaker 1: with you. This is kind of cool. Do you remember
- 48:33Speaker 1: having your old iPod?
- 48:35Speaker 2: Yes?
- 48:35Speaker 1: All right, this is a media player. It's very small.
- 48:40Speaker 1: This is from any Oasis and what it does is
- 48:45Speaker 1: it plays your You could have it play Spotify kids.
- 48:49Speaker 1: You could have a play. You know, your your music
- 48:51Speaker 1: off a SD card that could be inserted on the side,
- 48:55Speaker 1: or it says small storage on there. You can hook
- 48:57Speaker 1: it up to your PC and you can transfer. It
- 49:00Speaker 1: has a headphone jack on it as well. You can
- 49:03Speaker 1: bluetooth it to Bluetooth headphones. And you want to carry
- 49:06Speaker 1: around a media player, but you maybe don't want to
- 49:08Speaker 1: carry around your phone, or you want to listen to
- 49:11Speaker 1: music on this not on your phone. This is kind
- 49:13Speaker 1: of a cool thing. It will also play.
- 49:14Speaker 2: Videos, so it looks just like an iPhone four.
- 49:19Speaker 1: It does. It's almost the same size. It's got a
- 49:22Speaker 1: bright screen, so if you want to watch a movie,
- 49:24Speaker 1: you know, you watch it like this. It's kind of cool.
- 49:27Speaker 1: And I'm showing it on our video which you could
- 49:29Speaker 1: check after you subscribe at YouTube tech Talk Radio. But
- 49:33Speaker 1: to play Apple Music Title has all those services. The
- 49:36Speaker 1: thing is you don't load a bunch of junk on it.
- 49:40Speaker 1: You know, you don't have to worry. So if you
- 49:41Speaker 1: want to give it to the kids to listen to music,
- 49:43Speaker 1: they can do that. And it's actually a pretty cool,
- 49:45Speaker 1: smart looking device. It's not that expensive. You can find
- 49:48Speaker 1: it for about fifty or sixty bucks. Then the other
- 49:52Speaker 1: before we take a break, Easy Quest. You've seen their products,
- 49:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we've talked about them. I found a new one.
- 50:00Speaker 1: It has actual Ethernet port on it, so if you
- 50:03Speaker 1: want to bridge an Ethernet connection you could do that.
- 50:06Speaker 1: It has USB C USBA even as HDMI out, so
- 50:11Speaker 1: you can hook it to an HTM. My monitor easily
- 50:13Speaker 1: connects via USBC easy Quest. They're calling their new devices
- 50:18Speaker 1: the Maseratis of hubs. These are really great and they're solid.
- 50:22Speaker 1: You carry me around. I'd say take a look at
- 50:24Speaker 1: easy Quest if you get a chance to do that. So, yes, stuff,
- 50:27Speaker 1: all right, tech a quick break. We come back with
- 50:29Speaker 1: more of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 50:32Speaker 2: I'm trying to weird. Give us a call, send us
- 50:34Speaker 2: a question. We'll read it on the air and then
- 50:37Speaker 2: you can watch it back on YouTube. But give us
- 50:39Speaker 2: a like on your favorite podcasting platform and help us.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Goro the show and now back to tech Talk Radio.
- 50:46Speaker 2: This is Danny Treyo and you're listening to tech Talk Radio,
- 50:49Speaker 2: and you better keep listening or I'll come looking for you.
- 50:54Speaker 1: All right, So we're talking about what year were you born, Sean?
- 50:57Speaker 1: If you don't mind, is that okay?
- 50:58Speaker 2: Nineteen eighty six.
- 51:00Speaker 1: All right, so if you were a kid of the nineties,
- 51:04Speaker 1: there are some things you probably never forgot. All right,
- 51:07Speaker 1: let's see how many of these this is.
- 51:08Speaker 2: This is gonna be right on my own.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Yeah, let's see how many of these. You remember the
- 51:12Speaker 1: sound of a dial up internet connection. I'm not gonna
- 51:16Speaker 1: make that sound, but yes, recording songs off the radio play. Yeah,
- 51:24Speaker 1: it's like DJ shush, shush up, shush up, and then
- 51:27Speaker 1: hit play recorders in that song starts.
- 51:31Speaker 2: I actually could go right now in Grabb's cassette that
- 51:34Speaker 2: has recorded, like I have all my cassettes that I
- 51:37Speaker 2: still have from.
- 51:40Speaker 1: There's actually a friend of mine. Then you know, I
- 51:43Speaker 1: got into radio in my late twenties, but I used
- 51:46Speaker 1: to listen to him on the radio, Craig Powers. He's
- 51:48Speaker 1: a guy who told me go to this broadcasting school.
- 51:50Speaker 1: When I said, hey, how do I do that? And
- 51:52Speaker 1: I went. I actually found a recording of Craig Powers
- 51:56Speaker 1: at Kazy Why and Anaheim, and I told him I
- 51:58Speaker 1: found He's like, send it to me, because you know,
- 52:00Speaker 1: a lot of us DJs, we didn't keep a lot
- 52:02Speaker 1: of that stuff. And it was kind of cool. All right,
- 52:04Speaker 1: here's another one. Oh, I remember this calling the movie
- 52:08Speaker 1: theater for Showtimes car.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Or the inside of the first page of the paper.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they would have it in there. TV guide. TV
- 52:15Speaker 1: guide was your best friend.
- 52:17Speaker 2: I love the No, I mean friends that had cable
- 52:21Speaker 2: shirt the scrolling guide was the most amazing thing ever.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Or if you had dish, No, I would actually I
- 52:26Speaker 3: would go to you know, physical to routs and I
- 52:29Speaker 3: would buy the TV Guide and I would open They
- 52:32Speaker 3: would tell you what what was on, when was on?
- 52:34Speaker 2: That whole bit Our paper had the TV guide in it.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Okay, how about this actually going outside to find your friends.
- 52:41Speaker 1: You didn't get on your phone and text them. You
- 52:43Speaker 1: actually went outside.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Yes, and I usually rolled my DIRP bike to their house.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Memorizing phone numbers. How about this one?
- 52:53Speaker 2: Yes, I still so to this day. I can still
- 52:56Speaker 2: I still remember my parents' home phone number, both my
- 52:59Speaker 2: parents stuffe number, of Kaitlin Stuf phone number, and one
- 53:03Speaker 2: or two of my friend's home phone numbers that no
- 53:05Speaker 2: longer exist.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Back then, we couldn't do that. Back in the nineties.
- 53:09Speaker 1: You had, I mean, we didn't have a device. You
- 53:12Speaker 1: had to remember everything. Yep, you didn't carry a rolodex
- 53:15Speaker 1: around with you unless you were you know, total gate.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Let's see the excitement of getting actual mail.
- 53:23Speaker 2: You know, that was why I still I still send
- 53:24Speaker 2: real mail to people.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I like I like getting mail.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Post cards. Every time we travel, we sent post cards.
- 53:30Speaker 1: How about this one playing in fast food restaurant playgrounds
- 53:33Speaker 1: for hours, you know, the ballpit, the slide, the whole bit.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and they were probably disgusting.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Blockbuster runs on Friday nights. Friday night, the video
- 53:44Speaker 1: on you gotta get a video and then here's the
- 53:46Speaker 1: other one. Using actual encyclopedias for homework.
- 53:48Speaker 2: One of the first things that we ever had for
- 53:51Speaker 2: our computer was Encyclopedia Britannica.
- 53:54Speaker 1: You didn't have the books, the interactive well, we.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Had the books too. We got the Macromedia Flash Encyclopedia
- 54:00Speaker 2: Britannica or they had like twelve CDs and you could
- 54:03Speaker 2: interactively go through the entire encyclopedia.
- 54:05Speaker 1: You know, we used to have a thing in the
- 54:07Speaker 1: radio station. It was a book all about your musical
- 54:10Speaker 1: artist and you know, like gold records, and when and
- 54:14Speaker 1: when you wanted to mention something about the artist, you'd
- 54:17Speaker 1: have to flip through pages and pages and pages of stuff,
- 54:20Speaker 1: and so you had to plan, Okay, what song am
- 54:22Speaker 1: I playing here?
- 54:22Speaker 2: Here?
- 54:22Speaker 1: Here? It's different now in radio, you know. Now you
- 54:25Speaker 1: have Wikipedia so you could quickly look it up, you know,
- 54:29Speaker 1: or and over the time you remember some of that stuff.
- 54:32Speaker 1: But I'm getting older. I messed it up once in
- 54:34Speaker 1: a while. But either way, it was, it was. It
- 54:36Speaker 1: was kind of cool. But if you were a kid
- 54:38Speaker 1: in the nineties, those are the things you probably won't
- 54:41Speaker 1: never forget it.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Knowing how to read the Dewey decimal system.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 54:47Speaker 2: You went to the cord catalog alphabetically and then it
- 54:50Speaker 2: gave you a four digit number with a period and
- 54:53Speaker 2: another number and then a period or another number. I
- 54:56Speaker 2: don't remember what it all means.
- 54:58Speaker 1: But you knew how to use it. There you go.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Hopefully you know how to use the internet. You can
- 55:01Speaker 1: find us on the web tech talk radio dot com.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Thank you for listening. I think we're going to go
- 55:06Speaker 1: over a lot of the cool tech stuff next week
