- 0:01Speaker: Hello.
- 0:02Here we are.
- 0:03We are live, and it's so good to see you today.
- 0:07I'm excited to do this workshop We're going to talk about going from overwhelmed
- 0:15to organized, and that is possible.
- 0:20We have to talk about our definitions, of course.
- 0:24What does it really mean to be organized?
- 0:26But there is one basic tool that can help us reframe productivity in our days
- 0:37and allow us to acknowledge the work and the progress that we are making, and
- 0:42that's what we're gonna talk about today.
- 0:45So, so glad to see you.
- 0:48I see many familiar faces.
- 0:50Ladies from Convivial Circle are here.
- 0:53Uh, you can pitch in.
- 0:54I know you all will have, um, advice and wisdom on this topic today.
- 1:02So, um, I always enjoy seeing the chat.
- 1:07All right.
- 1:08Well, thank you so much for coming today to this live workshop, From
- 1:12Overwhelmed to Organized: The One Practice That Changes Everything.
- 1:17And that seems like an exaggerated clickbaity title, but really, stick
- 1:24with me and you will be surprised.
- 1:27So many ladies have been surprised that this makes that much
- 1:31difference, and you'll see, um, you'll hear from other ladies
- 1:37during this workshop that it's true.
- 1:39One practice will help flip that script that you have going on in your head
- 1:45that's creating the noise of overwhelm.
- 1:49You'll be able to silence that and make progress with this one.
- 1:55Yeah, stick around.
- 1:56That's right.
- 1:58All right.
- 1:59So I want to talk about this today becauseâ¦
- 2:04I'm gonna get all the words showing here.
- 2:06Um, because I do think it's important that we figure out our life at home.
- 2:15So many of us have maybe given up, um- feeling like, you know,
- 2:23we've given up because we, um We've tried so many different things.
- 2:31We've tried planners, we've tried checklists, we've tried programs
- 2:35to get our act together at home.
- 2:38Maybe even not, like getting organized now seems like way too optimistic.
- 2:43We're just trying to not fall to pieces, and even that seems too
- 2:48hard But it's worth figuring out.
- 2:53And a big part of figuring it out means aligning our expectations with reality
- 3:00instead of thinking that if we were organized, then everything will go my way.
- 3:06I think that's a real problem with how we go about getting organized often,
- 3:12is we define being organized as making everything go our way, and we keep
- 3:18trying and trying to figure out different things to make that happen, and it never
- 3:22does, and so we feel like failures.
- 3:25But we can shift our definition of organi- being organized, and
- 3:31we can love our life at home.
- 3:34'Cause you know they say, "If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."
- 3:38It's actually true.
- 3:40We need to love our lives at home in order to love our families well.
- 3:47It is a way that we love our families well.
- 3:50If we love our home, we are, by extension, loving our family.
- 3:55And if we love our family, we will, by extension, love our life at home.
- 4:01They go together.
- 4:03I know that when you look at your home, you see all that needs to be
- 4:08done, and it feels like way too much.
- 4:11It feels like there's never enough time.
- 4:13Once you get started into a project, of course, that's when the toddler
- 4:18skins his knee, or that's when problems start happening and your kids need you.
- 4:25Maybe your husband works long hours and can't pitch in.
- 4:28Maybe he's even deployed or working graveyard shifts.
- 4:32You know, there are all kinds of scenarios where we, as wives and mothers, have a
- 4:38lot on our plate and not a lot of help.
- 4:42That's some reality sometimes.
- 4:45And most of us never learned how to manage a home.
- 4:49It's not even that we didn't learn how.
- 4:52I know that there are many women out there right now who have kids and
- 4:56a home, but they've never actually seen a healthy, functioning home.
- 5:02That is such, I mean, it's sad but true, and that makes it extra
- 5:10difficult because you don't even know what you're working toward.
- 5:15But that is why we need to be rallying around one another and helping
- 5:22one another out and talking shop and talking about the nitty-gritty
- 5:26of homemaking with one another.
- 5:28I encourage you in whatever friend group you have, no matter how awkward
- 5:32or weird it sounds, talk about how you're getting laundry done.
- 5:37Talk about what you're making for dinner, and make home life conversations
- 5:43normal again, 'cause that is how this kind of knowledge used to be passed
- 5:49along, not with programs or, uh, classes, but just by women talking.
- 5:55But so many women don't have that right now and really just don't
- 6:00have the background experience or even vision for what it is they're
- 6:05supposed to be doing at home
- 6:07And it is true.
- 6:09We have a lot to do.
- 6:11We have a lot on our plate, and if we were to write down everything that we
- 6:16were working on, it would be a mile long.
- 6:20Like, we would never get to the bottom of that list.
- 6:23So our plans for getting on top of life cannot involve getting
- 6:28everything on our list done.
- 6:31It can't involve, like, getting our home at some kind of base level.
- 6:37Like, I'm just gonna get everything clean and organized once, and then
- 6:42I'll just be able to keep it up.
- 6:43I don't know how many times I've told myself that, and it's just a pipe dream.
- 6:48We're, we're all living in our house all the time, so there is no time where
- 6:57the whole house is going to be just so.
- 7:02We aren't making dollhouses.
- 7:04We aren't setting up dollhouses for ourselves.
- 7:06We are managing a family home where a whole lot of life is being
- 7:12lived and a whole lot of people are becoming flourishing people.
- 7:20And that makes messes, and it's our job to just kind of keep that project
- 7:24rolling, not get everything looking like a magazine spread or, you know,
- 7:32perfect for Instagram or whatever.
- 7:34It's not about achieving an aesthetic.
- 7:36Our job as moms and homemakers is to be helping that life
- 7:41actually happen in our homes.
- 7:44Our homes are a stage for life Stages need to be set and they need to be
- 7:51maintained, but they aren't the point.
- 7:54If you just have an empty set stage, like who cares?
- 8:00What value is that?
- 8:01The value is in what the stage allows to happen, the whole play of life.
- 8:09But that whole play of life and mismanagement and, uh, wrong
- 8:15expectations for what we're doing at home breeds overwhelm in us.
- 8:21We look around and we see way too many things to do, way too many options,
- 8:27way too many possibilities, way too much work, and all that too much just
- 8:33spins and spirals in our head, and that is what we call feeling overwhelmed.
- 8:41It just feels like too much to process, too much to handle.
- 8:44We don't even know where to start.
- 8:47How would you describe what it feels like to be overwhelmed?
- 8:51I'd love to see that in the chat.
- 8:54Um, how would you describe that feeling of being overwhelmed?
- 9:01Maybe you fixate on one thing or a million things that could be done, and
- 9:08then you're aren't sure what to do next.
- 9:11You just go into a mental or emotional spiral that you
- 9:15don't even know how to stop.
- 9:17And so often, you know, you might turn to your phone to just stop the noise in
- 9:22your head, or you just wanna leave the house and forget about it for a while.
- 9:28And a big problem with overwhelm is it feels like you have already met
- 9:33that threshold of decision fatigue and you can't do any more, and
- 9:38the reality is that you actually haven't made any decisions at all.
- 9:42So you feel totally burnt out without having actually done anything because
- 9:48of all that's going on in our heads.
- 9:51We've run a million scenarios in our heads and seen a whole bunch of
- 9:57things play out, and we feel stuck in knowing which one of those we
- 10:03should be doing, or what's actually next in this long loop that we have.
- 10:10Uh, we just don't know how to make that decision and can't, and it feels
- 10:14like reaching the end of the rope when we haven't even started, actually.
- 10:22Let's see.
- 10:22Sarah says, "Feeling overwhelmed is, uh, not knowing what to do
- 10:26next because everything seems like it needs to be done."
- 10:30Martha calls it a sense of doom.
- 10:32Ashley says, "It's complete shutdown where I want everything off my plate."
- 10:37Yes.
- 10:38Sarah says, "Too much to do.
- 10:40Where to start?
- 10:40Losing sleep."
- 10:42Jamie says, "Unable to make simple decisions."
- 10:46Yeah.
- 10:46"Brain ruminates either on one thing over and over or ping pongs
- 10:50from random to random idea."
- 10:53Yes.
- 10:53Chloe, "Trying to bail out of a boat while water keeps pouring into it."
- 10:58And so many more good ones here.
- 11:00This is so good.
- 11:01Yeah, that's feeling overwhelmed, and it is
- 11:07Uh, sorry, I'm getting texts and such.
- 11:11Um, that is A problem.
- 11:15Like, we need to figure out how to negate overwhelm and be able to move past it.
- 11:22We have to learn how to turn it off, and a big part of that is
- 11:26recognizing that overwhelm is optional.
- 11:30We aren't stuck.
- 11:31It's not necessary for us to feel overwhelmed, and it's something
- 11:37that we can have control over.
- 11:41Let me see.
- 11:42I haveâ¦
- 11:42My daughter is babysitting, and I just got a text from the
- 11:47lady she's babysitting for.
- 11:50The time changed
- 11:52Uh
- 11:53Okay.
- 11:55Moving on.
- 11:56Back, back to our thing.
- 11:59So overwhelm really is optional.
- 12:02Even if you have a lot to do, it's not that if you actually took
- 12:09everything off your plate, then you would stop feeling overwhelmed.
- 12:12That's what it feels like.
- 12:13It feels like that makes sense.
- 12:15All the things are making me feel overwhelmed, so to stop feeling
- 12:19overwhelmed, we just have to remove all of the things But that's
- 12:27not, that's not gonna happen.
- 12:30And we wouldn't even want that life, right?
- 12:33We, we want to be raising our families.
- 12:37We want to have homes that are bustling and flourishing with life.
- 12:45We, we want to be doing meaningful work.
- 12:49And so it's really, we can- we need to change the way that we respond to
- 12:55what's going on, and we need to change our expectations and our mindset
- 12:58about that in order to turn off overwhelm, and then become organized.
- 13:05And we also have to tackle what it means to be organized, because
- 13:09being organized does not mean having your act together all the time.
- 13:15That is often how we describe being organized, right?
- 13:18That's how we describe other people.
- 13:20"Oh, you know, she looks like she has everything together.
- 13:23She's organized."
- 13:25It does not mean having aesthetically arranged cupboards and closets with
- 13:30matching containers and labels.
- 13:33That's another thing.
- 13:34We call that organized, and then that is not possible in our life, and so we
- 13:39give up on being an organized person.
- 13:43But, like, that's an after effect of being organized.
- 13:49That's like a downstream thing.
- 13:52It's not what's making someone organized.
- 13:55It's not like if someone would just come in and organize my closets for me, and
- 13:59put things in matching containers, and label everything, then suddenly that
- 14:02would change me into an organized person.
- 14:05Those cupboards don't make you organized.
- 14:07An organized person might make their cupboards look that way, but
- 14:12it's us and the way that we handle life that has to change first.
- 14:19It's not about an alphabetized filing cabinet with every piece of
- 14:24paper in exactly the right place, and it is not about spending an hour
- 14:28writing in your planner every day.
- 14:31If you want to, that's fine.
- 14:33Again, maybe an organized person does that, but that hour is really
- 14:38not what's making her organized.
- 14:41And a lot of that might just be basically hobby time It doesn't have to take
- 14:46that long to be organized, and that's what we're gonna talk about today.
- 14:49That is the one thing where it takes like five minutes, not an hour So
- 14:55what does it mean to be organized?
- 14:57Being organized means knowing what's most important.
- 15:00It means choosing to do the things that matter most.
- 15:04It means knowing where your stuff is.
- 15:07It means writing things down and then looking at what you've written.
- 15:11It means knowing why you're doing what you're doing.
- 15:15Then your decisions align with those priorities.
- 15:20So when things are organized, they go together.
- 15:24And that begins with ourselves, where the decisions that we make and the work
- 15:29that we do goes together with what's important to us, what really matters.
- 15:36And w- we're able to see that, make the judgment call, make the right
- 15:40decision without spiraling and without doom and without feeling
- 15:45like we're not getting anywhere.
- 15:47Because we are noticing the right things, and we're letting go
- 15:52of the things that don't matter
- 15:54Let's see.
- 15:56Candra says, "I've never been organized no matter what I do.
- 16:00I organize, and then everything is lost."
- 16:03Right.
- 16:03And the whole point of organizing stuff is so that you can find it, right?
- 16:07So I would be interested to know what you do to try to get organized.
- 16:12You say, "No matter what I do, I've never been organized."
- 16:15What is it that you have done?
- 16:18You know, there's so mu- so many organizing books and advices and,
- 16:23and shows and people you can watch and follow on being organized, and
- 16:27so often they all focus on the stuff.
- 16:32Just declutter everything, you know, get the right containers
- 16:36and labels, and it's all about achieving this arrangement of stuff.
- 16:43But organization starts here, and until we are organized in our ability to think
- 16:50through our life and make good decisions, all those other visual parts of being
- 16:57organized are not gonna get any traction.
- 17:02We have to organize ourselves first before we can effect any
- 17:08organization in our stuff, and it does not work the other way around.
- 17:13We think, "Oh, all this stuff is making me crazy, so if I just get
- 17:21all that stuff visually appealing, suddenly I will feel put together."
- 17:30But unless we know what we're about, we know why we're doing what we're
- 17:35doing, and then we're able to filter decisions and make good choices, like,
- 17:41it's all just gonna go to shambles again because that is evidence of
- 17:48what's happening in our heads We have to change what's going on in our heads
- 17:53Jennifer says, "I'm a 10-plus year Misty groupie who's lost
- 17:58mojo with teenagers and how it's drastically changed my priorities."
- 18:02Yes, that's the other thing, is we go all in on organization projects or
- 18:09getting things all figured out, and then we think, "Once I get it all figured
- 18:12out, we'll be good to go for forever."
- 18:14But the reality is that our priorities change, our lives
- 18:17change, our responsibilities change.
- 18:21And so getting organized is something that is an ongoing process.
- 18:29It's something we can get better and better at, and something we're
- 18:31always doing, not somethingâ¦
- 18:34not a project that you just do and check off and achieve, and
- 18:37now suddenly you're organized.
- 18:41It's something we have to constantly be doing.
- 18:45Learn to love what must be done.
- 18:46Th- that's not a discouraging message, actually, if you just
- 18:50think about it the right way.
- 18:52It is in your head, but you can't just think your way
- 18:55into being organized either.
- 18:58Being organized or disorganized starts in our heads, not with the stuff.
- 19:03But too often, especially if we have a perfectionism streak, we want to
- 19:10figure everything out in our heads before we actually do anything.
- 19:15And you're like, "I don't wanna start a cleaning routine, a filing procedure,
- 19:22a declutter project, organizing my spices or my books or whatever.
- 19:26I don't wanna start any of those outward evidences of being organized.
- 19:31I don't wanna start a planner until I've picked the exact right one.
- 19:36And I know that as soon as I start it, we're, we're gonna do
- 19:40something that is gonna 100% work.
- 19:42Until I have that guarantee, I'm not going to do anything.
- 19:46I'm just gonna figure it out.
- 19:49Maybe keep making lists, but I'm not gonna actually get started
- 19:53until I've thought it all through."
- 19:57But the reality is that our actions have to play a part.
- 20:05We have to bring our actions to bear our choices.
- 20:10Because it's only in making those choices and working through
- 20:14doing things that we really learn what works and what's important.
- 20:20It's not something that we can just figure out in our heads and then
- 20:25fully implement once it's figured out.
- 20:28But that's what a lot of perfectionism think, uh, a, that's what a lot of
- 20:33perfectionism w- makes us think.
- 20:39So you can't think yourself into being organized because that
- 20:42desire to figure it all out in your head first is perfectionism,
- 20:47and overwhelm is in your head.
- 20:51So if you're in your head trying to figure it all out there
- 20:54first, you're gonna be spiraling.
- 20:57You are going to be giving in to all kinds of things.
- 21:02And- Overthinking, overly analytical, micromanaging planner,
- 21:08planning is perfectionism too.
- 21:11So we're actually putting ourselves into that overwhelmed loop by trying
- 21:17to figure it all out in our heads only.
- 21:20And the things that we really learn, we learn by doing, experimenting,
- 21:26iterating, and that includes planning, productivity, cleaning, the whole thing.
- 21:33To check, I am getting a bunch of texts, but okay.
- 21:38Got a thumbs up from the lady my daughter's babysitting for, so we're good.
- 21:42You do need better thinking if you're going to be organized.
- 21:46So it's like this kind of back and forth thing where we need to think better,
- 21:53but we d- need to do and not just think.
- 21:56Just thinking is what sticks us into the overwhelm loop.
- 22:02Organization requires order and action.
- 22:07Unless we're doing something, we're not organized.
- 22:11Organization is not theoretical.
- 22:14It is practical.
- 22:15It's something that we do.
- 22:17It's not just something that can stay in our heads Let's see.
- 22:22Alicia says, "Yes, I don't wanna start until I feel like I have a complete plan,
- 22:27and I'm learning that that's the problem."
- 22:29The, the reality is that we can't do everything, right?
- 22:34We all have long to-do lists, and at some point we realize, oh,
- 22:38I'm never actually going to get my whole list all checked off.
- 22:44That means that we have to be choosy.
- 22:47We have to choose.
- 22:48We have to decide.
- 22:49And so being organized is being really good at making decisions
- 22:54about choosing and letting other things go, being okay with that.
- 23:01You ha- you turn off the overwhelm by being okay with choosing and being okay
- 23:09with how you chose, not because you made the very best or most perfect choice,
- 23:15but, but 'cause you had to choose, and you did something, and you're gonna
- 23:18learn, and you're gonna keep going.
- 23:20You have to work.
- 23:22You have to have priorities, and you have to work with those priorities
- 23:26because there are too many things to do.
- 23:29So you have to have some kind of criteria to know what's important.
- 23:34And those kind of limitations that we all have, limitations of
- 23:37time, and energy, and attention, ability to choose is a limitation.
- 23:44Those limitations can actually spur creativity and potency, like potency
- 23:51of action, where we're not just scattering, not really sure what
- 23:56we're doing here and there, whatever catches our eye is what we do, but we
- 24:00really pour ourselves into something that matters and have a potent effect.
- 24:08Because we're not everywhere, we're where it matters most
- 24:13If you think about it, you know, even the word like organization, like a
- 24:18business, has a reason for being.
- 24:23They've come together.
- 24:24They've gotten organized to get something done.
- 24:27A thing, not all the thing.
- 24:30Like an organization means people who have come together
- 24:34to get a mission accomplished.
- 24:38And if it's outside of that mission, it's outside of their scope.
- 24:43So to be organized is to have that kind of vision or mission purpose to
- 24:51the options that are presented to you
- 24:54And you have to practice an action orientation in order to escape
- 24:59that kind of mental spiral analysis paralysis overwhelm spiral.
- 25:06You have to smile and start.
- 25:09Smile and start is one of our favorite sayings inside Convivial Circle, and
- 25:13we just spent all of June where smile and start was our focus for the month.
- 25:19And one of the stickers that I have to give away is a smile,
- 25:23smile and start sticker.
- 25:25So that's one of my favorite little mottos: smile and start
- 25:29Being organized means you know what needs to be done, and then
- 25:34you do something meaningful.
- 25:38Not do the very, very best m- the right thing, but
- 25:44something, something meaningful.
- 25:48Don't try to arrange all the pieces of life just right so that everything,
- 25:54your whole organiza- organization, plan, hopes, and dreams happen
- 25:59all at once forever and always.
- 26:02This is just not how it works.
- 26:04You get better and better at arranging things, and making choices,
- 26:08and figuring out what's important right now, because it will change.
- 26:13And so this is an ongoing skill that we are always applying, not some kind
- 26:20of status that we achieve and install.
- 26:25And a real key here is that a bias toward action melts overwhelm into
- 26:32momentum, because being overwhelmed is being stuck in your head.
- 26:41And so doing something is a surefire way to stop the overwhelm spiral, toâ¦
- 26:50It changes the subject in your head, gets your body moving, and
- 26:54gets you noticing other things.
- 26:57And you actually do something, and that feels good, and so you do another thing.
- 27:02So we need to practice a bias toward action, especially when
- 27:08we feel overwhelmed Oh, look, I didn't finish this slide.
- 27:13I'm Misty Winkler, if we haven't met before.
- 27:15I know this is live on YouTube, so maybe this is the first time
- 27:21you've stumbled upon my channel.
- 27:24Uh, I, um, I have five kids.
- 27:27My husband and I are gonna be celebrating our 25th anniversary
- 27:31in July, and we have three adult children, two teenagers still at home.
- 27:37Uh, we've homeschooled all of our kids.
- 27:40Three homeschool graduates, two in high school now.
- 27:44And I have been planning and organizing and reading about it and talking about
- 27:50it and writing about it for a long time.
- 27:55I'm not tired of it yet, because I keep learning.
- 27:59Um, whenâ¦
- 28:00So I was a homeschool kid, oldest daughter of seven.
- 28:04And so being the oldest bossy pants daughter that I was, I- when I got
- 28:12married at 19, I thought, "There we go.
- 28:15Now I will get it all figured out before we have kids.
- 28:20I'll just get my systems in place, I'll do the things, and then I'll
- 28:25be so much better than my mom."
- 28:27That was one of my thoughts.
- 28:31And so of course, God didn't let that happen because He takes down the proud,
- 28:37but He gives grace to the humble.
- 28:39So He had to humble me, and none of my plans, none of my
- 28:43systems ever got traction.
- 28:46They never worked.
- 28:48And they especially didn't work once we started having kids.
- 28:54And so then I went for a while thinking, "Well, then I'm not gonna bother.
- 28:59If my systems are not going to completely work out the way I wanted, then I'm
- 29:06just not gonna, not gonna do any of it.
- 29:08I'm gonna do barely enough to scrape by, and just, you know, take walks
- 29:15with my kids and read books and care as little as possible about the house."
- 29:22So that went on for a few years, and things got pretty bad.
- 29:26And then, uh, God kept nagging me.
- 29:29Basically, everywhere I went, the subject would come up, like how you manage your
- 29:34home, and people would ask, like, just start conversations about cleaning plans.
- 29:41And it's like, "Sorry, I'm not doing that."
- 29:44It just, in all kinds of different ways, it kept coming back up until I got the
- 29:48hint and the conviction that I was wrong, and I was gonna have to figure this out.
- 29:55So- That's been, like, 15 years now figuring it out and sharing
- 30:04what I've learned along the way.
- 30:06So I runâ¦
- 30:07Now I run a membership community called Convivial Circle, where we have hundreds
- 30:13of ladies, many of whom are here today.
- 30:16Shout out to my ladies here.
- 30:18Dawn Simpson.
- 30:20Let's see.
- 30:20Well, I'm not gonna be able toâ¦
- 30:21Megan Jackson.
- 30:23Those are just the ones I see right here.
- 30:24Stacy Thomas.
- 30:26Um, or at least Stacy has been.
- 30:29Now it's been a while since I've seen you, Stacy, it seems like.
- 30:32Okay.
- 30:33Um, so
- 30:36What I have found in all of these years of writing and helping other
- 30:41ladies with organization is that we all have these same struggles.
- 30:45And I don't get tired of talking about it, because I still
- 30:50have to keep doing it myself.
- 30:53It's not something like, "Oh, now I've finally attained this level, and
- 30:57I can tell everyone else how to come up and be, like, do it like I do,
- 31:02because everything's all together."
- 31:04No, this is, like, a cohort of all of us who are interested in learning
- 31:10to love what must be done, in continuing to apply ourselves to our
- 31:15lives, to be engaged with our lives.
- 31:18And we're on board with doing that together.
- 31:22And it's easier to be engaged and be on board, continuing to learn and grow and
- 31:29keep iterating and learning, when you have a group of other ladies doing that too.
- 31:35So that's what Convivial Circle is.
- 31:38Um,
- 31:39Stacy says, uh, she should come back.
- 31:43Yes.
- 31:44Well, maybe I'll give you a minute, give you a reason to here in a minute.
- 31:50All right, so the one practice, it is ti- ⦠Oh, and I turned off my
- 31:53slides because that one was notâ¦
- 31:55There we go The one practice, it's time to get to it.
- 31:58Now that we've talked about the difference between being overwhelmed and organized,
- 32:03and what being organized really means, that we have to have a bias toward
- 32:07action, and we have to be practicing it.
- 32:11This is where the daily card comes in.
- 32:14Probably all of my convivial circle friends here saw it coming.
- 32:20You, you probably saw hints too.
- 32:23It's the daily card Um, so if, if you've been doing the daily card, whether you're
- 32:28in Convivial Circle or not, 'cause I've have lots of episodes on the daily card.
- 32:33Uh, and I have a guide called The 3x3 Daily Card Method.
- 32:37That's what we're gonna talk about next.
- 32:40Um, I would love t- for you, those of you who are doing it, to share in the chat
- 32:46what it is that you love about the daily card, and the practice of the daily card.
- 32:51And the word practice there is key.
- 32:55The daily card gives you your bias toward action with a fresh
- 32:59new chance to practice every day
- 33:04Um, I've heard way more objections than this.
- 33:07Again, another slide here that could have been filled out more.
- 33:10I've heard all the objections and excuses for the daily card because
- 33:15this was one of my first go-to things.
- 33:19I mean, I did not invent picking a top three for the day.
- 33:24That's, like, almost every productivity thing out there will tell you,
- 33:30pick a top three for the day.
- 33:32This is-- I didn't create it.
- 33:34I didn't invent it.
- 33:36I just tried it and discovered that it really helps, and
- 33:42it fits mom life so well.
- 33:46And so the reasons why we choose a top three might be different for us
- 33:51as moms than it is for, you know, a corporate CEO, but it still does work.
- 34:00Whether or not it works for him, I don't know.
- 34:02But it works for me at home with all kinds of different projects here and there
- 34:07going on, where it seems like there's no way I could boil it down to three.
- 34:11It's like, but if I do, I actually get so much more traction with everything else.
- 34:16But I know because I've been doing it for so long and telling other ladies
- 34:21about it for so long and trying to convince so many women in Convivial
- 34:25Circle that this is what they need to be doing first before anything else, that
- 34:31all the reasons why you can't do it.
- 34:33And we share a weekly top three in Convivial Circle, and so often
- 34:38it's like, and they're coming in with five things and six things.
- 34:43Like, let's narrow it down to three.
- 34:46But I know, I know these excuses personally 'cause when I first
- 34:52started trying the daily card, and I was like, "Okay, well, this is
- 34:57basic productivity recommendation.
- 34:59Everywhere I turn, they're talking about this," but they're all businessmen, you
- 35:06know, giving this productivity advice.
- 35:08I-- A-and they're just talking about, like, three things, you know, in
- 35:13your office, li-like your workday.
- 35:17Like, my workday is my whole life.
- 35:20And all the pieces and parts of my life are all intermingled.
- 35:24So I'm gonna separate things out, and I'm gonna have three- Top threes.
- 35:32Uh, and I did this.
- 35:33I- And some of you, if you've been around long enough, you've seen my cards
- 35:38that had, like, a I on a index card.
- 35:42You can make a daily card anywhere, in a planner, on a
- 35:45Post-It Note, on an index card.
- 35:47I would draw a line across the top, and then make columns, and
- 35:52then have a box at the bottom.
- 35:54And so I would have home th- home and family, personal
- 35:58things, I'd have homeschool things, and then project things.
- 36:06If that's right.
- 36:07Anyway, I split my life up into three parts, and each
- 36:09part got its own top three.
- 36:12And it was better.
- 36:14That worked way better than my many multitudes of super long lists.
- 36:21So it was better.
- 36:23But after a while I tried actually giving myself only three and
- 36:32found it worked even better.
- 36:34But it was hard.
- 36:35It was hard to, like, believe it or trust it or to let go
- 36:41of all the different things.
- 36:43Like, I c- I have so much more than three things to do, I can't narrow it down.
- 36:48But the reality is that we figure out how to narrow it down by actually
- 36:52trying, by practicing, and you get a chance to practice every day.
- 36:57You don't have to pick the right thing every day.
- 37:03You get better and better at picking the right thing the more you practice it
- 37:08Katie says, "I love the daily card.
- 37:10Honestly, it's been the only thing I've been able to do consistently
- 37:14as far as planning or routines."
- 37:16And I bet it makes a bigger difference even than those
- 37:19other planning and routines do
- 37:22And Dawn, Dawn's been around for forever.
- 37:24She says, "I'm guilty of five or six things."
- 37:28But she's doing it now.
- 37:29She's making an actual top three.
- 37:33Yes.
- 37:33Alicia says, "I usually get more than the three things done, but picking
- 37:37three helps me really think about my priorities and have time for the
- 37:42unexpected parts of mom life, like a child whose meltdown lasted for two hours."
- 37:47Right?
- 37:48You can't predict things like that, but that's your job to take care of, and
- 37:52we generally don't pencil in parenting when we're making our plans for the day.
- 37:58But it takes a significant chunk of time, and you might just be in a stage where
- 38:02that needs to be one of your top three.
- 38:05All right.
- 38:06So eventually, I got to the point where I practiced picking only three things
- 38:13for the day, and then recently, like two years ago, I went back to three
- 38:23lists of three, but only because it, it's not picking nine thing- every
- 38:30day I'm not picking nine things.
- 38:31I'm still only picking three things.
- 38:34But I realized I needed to acknowledge the little things that make the most
- 38:42difference, and really practice them as habits and get them installed.
- 38:49And so I set myself up another, um, three-by-three format, which
- 38:56you can see on this sample here.
- 38:59And so I have a place for the top three.
- 39:01I have one, actually.
- 39:03It'sâ¦
- 39:03I do keep a planner, but my Post-It can fit on the front of the cover, so I don't
- 39:09even have to open it to see my daily plan.
- 39:12Um, so I have a spot here for my top three, and then there's a
- 39:17little box for the home routines that make the biggest difference.
- 39:22This is a visual to remind me that this is what will matter most.
- 39:27Even if you don't get to the whole thing, if you do these, you've done
- 39:33enough to keep everyone afloat.
- 39:35So the AM is morning, right?
- 39:37Morning 15.
- 39:38Not 15 things, 15 minutes.
- 39:41So 15 minutes in the morning, and then the PM 15 is 15 minutes in the evening.
- 39:49And all of us have different things that happen in our 15-minute
- 39:54morning and evening routine.
- 39:56Maybe some of you who have your morning and evening routines, you
- 40:00could share what's on yours just to showcase how different they can be.
- 40:04And by picking, by limiting yourself to 15 minutes That allows your
- 40:11creativity to come out and you start realizing what actually matters.
- 40:16It's not something you figure out in your head first.
- 40:21It's something you do and iterate and learn what needs to go in there by
- 40:28trying a whole bunch of stuff out and seeing what really makes a difference.
- 40:32We're gonna get to that bit.
- 40:33Okay, then the second box there are personal routines.
- 40:37So you have your overall top three tasks for the day, and then
- 40:40house routines, personal habits.
- 40:43Every day, read your Bible, drink enough water, and smile.
- 40:49Smile at your kids, smile at your husband, smile into people's eyes, and that will
- 40:57transform the atmosphere of your home right there, that one thing So this is
- 41:03now the three by three daily card method.
- 41:06And for a long time I did use an index card, and I'll still often, you know,
- 41:11in posts or on YouTube or whatever, talk about an index card option.
- 41:15Fits on an index card just fine, right?
- 41:18But it's kind of fun to have the, to just use a Post-it since a
- 41:22Post-it is three, three by three.
- 41:26Right?
- 41:26It's three inches by three inches.
- 41:28So, uh, and I have little custom ones here.
- 41:31These are available in my shop, um, that's this template that you can see.
- 41:36Or if you buy the three by three daily card method guide,
- 41:38it comes with templates.
- 41:41But it's just fun, and when it's fun, and also makes it easier to practice.
- 41:46All right, let's unpack each of these three sections.
- 41:50So first we have that top section where you choose your top three tasks.
- 41:57And to figure out your top three tasks, you have to ask yourself, "What will make
- 42:01the most difference if I do this today?"
- 42:05What's taking my time today?
- 42:09What is it that I need to do that I've been procrastinating?
- 42:13And maybe that's a long list, but pick one, one thing to just stop
- 42:17procrastinating on, and that can open up and unlock just that sense and feeling,
- 42:25"Oh, I'm a person who can do things.
- 42:29I can get over this, get over myself, and just do something."
- 42:34And then we end up doing so much more.
- 42:37So for example, uh, even still with only two high schoolers, on
- 42:43a homeschool day, homeschool goes on one of my top three lists.
- 42:50Because ⦠It's not because if I didn't put it on there, I would forget
- 42:55to do it, but it's because that is my most important thing for the day.
- 43:01And so I need to acknowledge that even if nothing else happened,
- 43:05it still counts as a good day.
- 43:08And that is a huge step right there for becoming organized instead of overwhelmed.
- 43:17Because when we're overwhelmed, we spiral into thinking about
- 43:21all that we aren't doing.
- 43:25But when we're organized, we do what matters most, and we acknowledge
- 43:31and tell ourselves that we made the right choice End of story
- 43:36That shuts off, it eliminates the overwhelm.
- 43:41And being organized is about choosing the thing that keeps you on mission.
- 43:49It's being held together.
- 43:50All your work and your life is a piece.
- 43:53It's a whole, and you are living that out.
- 43:59You're making appropriate decisions for your whole one-piece life.
- 44:05That's being organized.
- 44:07So even if nothing else got done, homeschool is one of those things
- 44:13that counts, and that takes time.
- 44:18And so I have to let it take up the space on my daily card to
- 44:24remind myself of that reality.
- 44:27Even still
- 44:29And so we've done daily card challenges, and we're about to start
- 44:33another one in Convivial Circle.
- 44:34So July is gonna be our daily card challenge month in Convivial Circle.
- 44:39We didn't do one last year, but we've done a daily card challenge in previous
- 44:43years, and so I had a lot of, um, response from people to pull on, and I had a
- 44:51really hard time narrowing them down.
- 44:54But, um, Haley, last time we did a daily card challenge, she said, "Picking three
- 45:00things to focus on finishing in a day is manageable and something I think I
- 45:05will be able to persevere in doing."
- 45:09And that's what so many of us need, is just that ability
- 45:14to, to stick with something.
- 45:17That's what we maybe don't believe we can do.
- 45:20But if we do a small thing and keep at it, that allows us to change that
- 45:27perception of ourself and our ability to manage the life that we have.
- 45:32Katie said, "The practice of daily cards helps anchor my thoughts and tasks
- 45:37to be more realistic and achievable.
- 45:39Instead of thinking and spacing off into distraction, 'What should I do now?'
- 45:44I have a plan and can go after it."
- 45:47You can hear that bias toward action in that Uh, Chelsea said, "I think it
- 45:53came-- I came to the obvious realization that some days I just don't have time to
- 45:59dedicate to my much too long to-do list."
- 46:02Right?
- 46:02That's all of us.
- 46:04"I think doing small daily cards as well as taking a realistic look at
- 46:09each day to decide if I can truly fit it in, and it being okay if I can't,
- 46:14will really be helpful and freeing."
- 46:17Um, Michaela said, "I get so much more done when I pick only three things."
- 46:22That's kind of one of those, it- in our heads, that doesn't make sense.
- 46:27But when you practice it, and you do it for a while, it's true.
- 46:33When you narrow things down and you know what you're about, you are just
- 46:38better able to make choices and to get things done, and you feel like
- 46:42the kinda person who gets things done instead of being stuck in overwhelm.
- 46:46And so you do get more done when you narrow your list down to three.
- 46:51Rachel said, "Three things per day is more than enough, and helps focus
- 46:57my mind in a productive direction."
- 47:00And Candace said, "Choosing the top three keeps my plan realistic."
- 47:05So huge.
- 47:07So helpful.
- 47:09And here's what I've seen over the years.
- 47:12If you do choose a daily top three, then you know what's important, you
- 47:17know where to start each day, you are forced to identify priorities, and maybe
- 47:23even you'll figure out what they are by making choices, and you recognize
- 47:28the limits of your time and your energy, and you're working within those
- 47:32instead of in wishful thinking land.
- 47:35And if you just do whatever, or try working from your super long
- 47:40list, then you're easily distracted because you have no anchor.
- 47:43You just do what feels good at the moment or what pops in front of your face, rather
- 47:49than what you've chosen for a reason.
- 47:52And so often you don't notice or you don't choose progress over time, 'cause
- 47:58progress builds slowly, and it's easy to miss Jen said, "A daily card helps me hit
- 48:07the ground running because I have clear priorities for the day, and it helps
- 48:12me be flexible if new priorities arise, because I know I can regroup as needed."
- 48:17I know we have lots of stories of ladies making a new card halfway through the day.
- 48:22Like, you make a plan at the start of the day, and it's just a Post-It note.
- 48:29Someone gets sick, the day is over.
- 48:32I mean, your plan is over, but the day is not over.
- 48:36Like, tear that daily card up and make a new one for the day.
- 48:40It's low stakes, and you're able to iterate.
- 48:43You're able to adjust and be flexible and work with your reality.
- 48:49And writing it down, even on a small piece of paper, helps you
- 48:56stop working from your head.
- 48:58And when you work from your head, you will feel overwhelmed.
- 49:02It will be inevitable, because you do have too many things to do
- 49:06to track them all in your head.
- 49:09And a daily card is a visible reminder of what to focus on, of what matters most
- 49:16All right, so let's go on to the next section, and I think I didn't fully finish
- 49:20explaining that routine section there.
- 49:23So I already talked about the morning 15 minutes and the evening 15 minutes,
- 49:28and then T10 is transformation 10.
- 49:33So this is what we do instead of some kind of elaborate cleaning, deep
- 49:39cleaning schedule or whatever Some ladies end up eventually creating
- 49:44zones or creating a plan, but the basic bare bones managing the housework
- 49:51plan is morning 15 minutes, evening 15 minutes, transformation 10, where you
- 49:59will look around and you say, "What area is bothering me most right now?"
- 50:07Not what needs it, not what you should be doing.
- 50:09You look around, "What's bothering me right now?"
- 50:14Maybe it's the laundry.
- 50:17Maybe it's the dishes.
- 50:19Maybe it is the table by the front door that is just
- 50:23collecting all kinds of stuff.
- 50:25But you look around and you identify for this day, what is one thing that's
- 50:28bothering you the most, and then you spend 10 minutes tackling that thing.
- 50:35You'll be surprised how much you can get done in 10 minutes.
- 50:38So youâ¦
- 50:39It is more than you think it is.
- 50:41But also, this builds and creates an identity within ourselves that we are a
- 50:48person who can just take care of things.
- 50:52We don't have to let it bother us.
- 50:54If there's something that's bothering us, we could do something about it, and it
- 50:58doesn't have to be a complete overhaul.
- 51:01It could be 10 minutes, and that would make a difference.
- 51:04And the more we do that, the more it just becomes second nature
- 51:10to not let something bother you, but to take care of it instead.
- 51:15It takes a while.
- 51:16It takes a while of practice, but that is an identity shift that happens when you
- 51:23practice just taking care of the basics
- 51:29And so here are what some of the ladies were saying last time
- 51:31we did a daily card challenge.
- 51:33"Even when life is too crazy to get out my planner," though you don't
- 51:37have time for a whole planner, "a simple three by three on a note
- 51:41card or a slip of paper is helpful."
- 51:45And Angela said, "Consistency is worth paying attention to.
- 51:50The habit is what carries me through on busier days, which
- 51:54might otherwise cause me to forget to be working on my routines."
- 51:58So you are keeping the bare basics front and center.
- 52:03You're counting them.
- 52:04You're allowing yourself to count them as a win and as enough.
- 52:10And it's something you can do even on days that are way out of hand.
- 52:18You can't do the full plan.
- 52:20You can't do everything.
- 52:22Your day does not go according to your plan.
- 52:24You can still do this And Elena said, "Naming the few things that needed to
- 52:31be the focus of my time for the day helps me feel so much more accomplished
- 52:36instead of guilty that I didn't do more."
- 52:40That's what we need
- 52:42So 15 minutes in the morning, 15 minutes in the evening, transformation 10.
- 52:47That is 40 minutes a day for housework basics.
- 52:52And once you have a few weeks of doing just that, you will be surprised at
- 53:00the traction that you get in your home.
- 53:03You know, so often we look for big cleaning routines and checklists
- 53:09and other people's systems and try to implement multi-checklist
- 53:14cleaning things for the day.
- 53:16And like, "Every Tuesday I'm gonna do this."
- 53:18And then you find out actually every Tuesday my day doesn't go according
- 53:22to plan, so that never happens now.
- 53:24Well
- 53:25This 40-minute system, system, very open-ended, loose system, gets you
- 53:33traction in your housework, and you get traction where it matters most, where
- 53:38everyone in your family will notice.
- 53:42It will help you practice identifying what actually does matter in your
- 53:46house with your family, 'cause it can be totally different.
- 53:51Someone else's checklist might not fit your life.
- 53:54You're not working off of someone else's checklists.
- 53:56You are engaged in what's happening in your own house, and you get consistency
- 54:03that builds slowly but surely.
- 54:07With that full meal deal cleaning system that you try to install
- 54:12from someone else, if you miss a day, the whole thing breaks down.
- 54:17You overload your expectations and your schedule with idealistic plans.
- 54:23And I don't know about you, but, like, my house does not get dirty at even levels.
- 54:30Like, my kitchen needs way more cleaning than the living room, and
- 54:34sometimes our living room gets way more messy than it does on other days.
- 54:39So it's like trying to apply the same amount of cleaning in, like, a consistent
- 54:46way often just doesn't work because our homes aren't used consistently.
- 54:53And so it ju- that's why it doesn't fit Whereas this is spending a targeted
- 54:59amount of time paying attention and just doing what needs to be
- 55:03done in your house at that moment.
- 55:06That will make the biggest difference right there.
- 55:09And I like what Nikki had to say, "I need to check in each day and make sure I'm
- 55:13on track with what needs to be done."
- 55:15And that's why we put it on our daily card.
- 55:17It's basic.
- 55:19It's the bare minimum.
- 55:21It's a minimum viable routine, but if we check in with that,
- 55:26we'll actually get traction.
- 55:27We don't really move beyond it.
- 55:31We can add to it.
- 55:33We can do more, but we still have to be doing these three things
- 55:38I think most cleaning schedules don't stick, not because you're bad at them,
- 55:43but because they're too elaborate.
- 55:45The more consistently you can do the daily minimums, the
- 55:50easier everything else becomes.
- 55:53That's where we need to be putting our attention.
- 55:56Then we also need to be tracking our personal care habits.
- 56:00Personal habits, self-care, whatever you wanna call it
- 56:04These are the things that do affect us, that make us show up better as wives and
- 56:11mothers, but that are so easy to neglect and to push to the back burner and to
- 56:19have them displaced by whatever flares up.
- 56:23And so we need them in front of our face every day to check
- 56:26off Read your Bible, drink your water, and smile at your people.
- 56:32Uh, Katie Lynn at our last, uh, daily card challenge said, "Doing
- 56:37the daily card helps me focus on what was most important each day.
- 56:42It's uncomfortable to put down things that I know I will be doing anyways, but that
- 56:49really helped me remember that those are the tasks where my energy is best used."
- 56:55So that's true for all three of these sections, but I put it here because
- 56:59that is so true of just drinking your water, reading your Bible,
- 57:05and smiling at your people We just want those to happen on autopilot.
- 57:10But if we don't think about it, if we don't count it and let it count in our
- 57:16own heads and on our paper as important, it'll just fall by the wayside, and we
- 57:24don't want it to fall by the wayside.
- 57:26Catherine said, "It's not only okay, but beneficial to include the same
- 57:32things on the daily card day after day if those items are true priorities."
- 57:39We we need that visible reminder day after day.
- 57:42We just do.
- 57:45Yvonne said, "After a winter of sickness, I was struggling to get back on track.
- 57:50This challenge, this daily card challenge, put me where I want to be."
- 57:55And a big part of that is because the little things that
- 57:59matter most are on the card
- 58:02So with your basic personal habits, you're anchored in your day, you
- 58:07do the things that count, and you keep yourself in working order.
- 58:13And if these things are not on our list and we're not tracking them,
- 58:18we let loud tasks or emergencies displace the most important things.
- 58:25We get afternoon headaches because we're dehydrated.
- 58:29That's-- it takes us out of the game.
- 58:32Like, just drink your water.
- 58:35And I don't know if this happens to me, but your kids think you're upset because
- 58:40you're just in your head, ignoring them, not seeing them, not smiling.
- 58:45Your face is thoughtful.
- 58:50Like, we think we're being-- we're, we're just in our heads, we're
- 58:53thinking so hard, and we look grumpy, and that's what our kids see.
- 58:56Our kids just see our face.
- 58:58They don't hear what's going on in our heads.
- 59:00They see our face.
- 59:01And so our face needs to communicate to them that they are loved,
- 59:07wanted, attended to, that they matter, and that they make us happy.
- 59:14We communicate to them that they make us happy by smiling when we see them.
- 59:21And that's why we need that reminder.
- 59:25It needs to be in front of our face.
- 59:27Maybe that's humbling, but it's true, and we need to accept that and just
- 59:33put it on our list and then do it.
- 59:36And Cassie said that this daily card helped her.
- 59:41It kept her on track even when life fell apart.
- 59:46This is something you can do when life falls apart, and it still works.
- 59:50So when we have our busy family life, we're-- feel overwhelmed, we feel
- 59:56lost and scattered because we aren't grounding ourselves in reality, and
- 1:00:02that's what these personal habits do.
- 1:00:04They ground us in reality when we read our Bible, when we
- 1:00:10drink water, and when we smile.
- 1:00:13These are spiritual and bodily things that affect everything else, and our
- 1:00:21body and our soul can't be afterthoughts
- 1:00:24Lisa said that, "A daily card really does help me feel less overwhelmed, but I'm
- 1:00:30also more likely to get three th- three things done each day instead of being
- 1:00:35busy all day and accomplishing nothing."
- 1:00:39Right?
- 1:00:41We have all had those days, and this helps us get out of that mode.
- 1:00:47Andrea said that, "It," the daily card, "makes me think but not overthink."
- 1:00:54Right?
- 1:00:54We need to think better, but we can't just be in our heads.
- 1:00:58It's simple but super effective Stacey.
- 1:01:02Stacey.
- 1:01:03That's the Stacey who was here.
- 1:01:05She was here for a previous daily card challenge.
- 1:01:08She said, "It's a staple to my sanity."
- 1:01:11It's kind of funny when your words come back to you, isn't it?
- 1:01:14Um It's a staple to my sanity.
- 1:01:18Mine too.
- 1:01:19It's why I keep coming back to it.
- 1:01:20That's why I keep talking about it.
- 1:01:22That is why we keep doing a daily card challenge in Convivial Circle,
- 1:01:29because the practice of it builds.
- 1:01:32It builds momentum.
- 1:01:33And the thing is, because this isâ¦
- 1:01:35It's not just in our heads, I can't convince you with words and arguments
- 1:01:41or even stories that this will work.
- 1:01:44You figuring out that it will work for you requires you to practice it.
- 1:01:49Unless you do it, you won't figure it out.
- 1:01:53It is not something you can figure out in your head and then just do.
- 1:01:59It's something you figure out by doing, not by comprehending That is
- 1:02:05something I have seen over and over and over again in convivial circle
- 1:02:09Stacy, I'm definitely gonna be sending you stickers since
- 1:02:13you got called out like that.
- 1:02:16Yep, Stacy T.,
- 1:02:17that was you.
- 1:02:19Learning comes by doing.
- 1:02:22Your brain will give you all kinds of excuses and arguments.
- 1:02:26I know I heard them all in my own head.
- 1:02:30This isn't gonna work for you.
- 1:02:32But your toddler self, your inner toddler, needs discipline, and the daily card
- 1:02:38gives you the daily redirection, visible, written down, but small and doable, the
- 1:02:45redirection that your inner toddler needs.
- 1:02:49And that's what we are going to do in July inside Convivial Circle.
- 1:02:54Convivial Circle is where we are all stepping out of overwhelm into
- 1:03:00living organized, recognizing that that does not mean that we are living
- 1:03:05picture-perfect lives or living lives where everything is going our way, but
- 1:03:11that we are able to make appropriate choices in the moment for the life that
- 1:03:15we have right in front of us right now.
- 1:03:17That's being organized, and that's what we are all practicing and
- 1:03:22getting better at day by day.
- 1:03:24So the daily card challenge is July.
- 1:03:28July has 31 days.
- 1:03:31But the challenge is to make a daily card 20 times, because
- 1:03:36we are not perfectionists.
- 1:03:37We are also intentionally undoing all of our perfectionist
- 1:03:42tendencies in Convivial Circle.
- 1:03:44We're calling out perfectionism.
- 1:03:46We're not allowing it.
- 1:03:47So the daily card challenge is to make a daily card 20 times in July.
- 1:03:53Just make one, even if you don't check off all three things,
- 1:03:57'cause you're not going to.
- 1:03:59Because you don't end up choosing the right three things until
- 1:04:03you've been doing it for a while.
- 1:04:04So this is the practice.
- 1:04:06This is putting in the reps to figure it out, and we're going to
- 1:04:10have a live seminar, kind of like a workshop, every week, talking about
- 1:04:16the daily cards and brainstorming.
- 1:04:18There's gonna be an ongoing chat in our chat space where ladies are sharing
- 1:04:22what they're learning and what they're doing, what they're putting on their
- 1:04:25list, what didn't work, what does work, and you're seeing how different people
- 1:04:31apply it in different circumstances, and that helps us all break out of our ruts
- 1:04:35and get more creative and stick with it.
- 1:04:40Because we see we're not the only ones having a hard time,
- 1:04:43but it makes a difference.
- 1:04:46And we see those testimonials, and we hear what-- how other women are
- 1:04:49succeeding with it, and that gives us the desire to keep pushing on ourselves.
- 1:04:55So we have, uh, the challenge sheet and a worksheet, and we've got the
- 1:05:01templates where you can print off the daily card format if you want on
- 1:05:07Post-Its or on index cards, um, or just follow along with your own format.
- 1:05:14The template, the form doesn't matter.
- 1:05:17It is just the practice that matters, and that's what we're gonna be doing
- 1:05:22together inside Convivial Circle.
- 1:05:25Who will get stickers?
- 1:05:27Well- People who are live here at the end here will get s- I'm gonna pick
- 1:05:32five or so people to get stickers today.
- 1:05:35But everyone who finishes the daily card challenge, 20 daily
- 1:05:39cards in July, will get stickers
- 1:05:43So there'll be a pack inâ¦
- 1:05:46I haven't put together what the prize will be, um, but everyone
- 1:05:51will get prizes in the mail.
- 1:05:53If you finish it, you complete the assessment at
- 1:05:55the end, then you get a prize
- 1:05:59Maybe I'll throw in, maybe everyone will get a Post-it pad.
- 1:06:05I'd have to order more.
- 1:06:06So anyway, I'm gonna make up prize packets for everyone to win at the end.
- 1:06:10I love sending out stickers, and bookmarks, and magnets,
- 1:06:14and all kinds of goodies.
- 1:06:15So everyone gets a little goodie bag if you finish the challenge,
- 1:06:20which is just 20 index card, 20 daily cards in the month of July.
- 1:06:25And you're participating, you're getting all kinds of support.
- 1:06:28Our community manager, Stephanie, is just on it replying right away.
- 1:06:34If you have any struggles or questions, or you just wanna give up, post something
- 1:06:39and she'll be right there for you
- 1:06:41Let's see.
- 1:06:42Kim says, "What if you're traveling?"
- 1:06:44Like, well, are you traveling more than 11 days?
- 1:06:48'Cause there's onlyâ¦
- 1:06:49You only have to do it 20 times in July.
- 1:06:51And also, you know, if you were on vacation even, make your daily card.
- 1:06:59It's not like you should stop reading your Bible or drinking water or smiling.
- 1:07:05And there still might be, maybe it's your car that needs a
- 1:07:08transformation 10 every day.
- 1:07:12And there's still, like, three things you should be doing probably.
- 1:07:14It's just gonna be different.
- 1:07:15It's not gonna be the things that you normally do around the house, but,
- 1:07:18like, what, what's happening today?
- 1:07:20Like, the daily card is just how we think through our day and identify what we
- 1:07:26should be doing so we can end the day- satisfied and happy with what we've done
- 1:07:31Uh, Rebecca said that practice really makes a difference.
- 1:07:36"I'm getting better at identifying my true top three for the day, and
- 1:07:41writing daily cards wasn't as much of a challenge this time around," s-
- 1:07:45she's done multiple, "because it has become a normal part of my rhythm."
- 1:07:51And that's what I want to have happen for you, too, where you've put in
- 1:07:55the practice, you're getting better at identifying your true top three,
- 1:08:01and it doesn't feel like a challenge.
- 1:08:03It's just managing life and managing yourself day by day.
- 1:08:09It becomes a normal part of your rhythm.
- 1:08:12That's what we're gonna do inside Convivial Circle for the month of
- 1:08:15July with our daily card challenge.
- 1:08:17When you join Convivial Circle, you'll get instant access to everything.
- 1:08:21We have more than a dozen courses, master classes, replays, lives,
- 1:08:28a member exclusive podcast with replays, all kinds of things.
- 1:08:34Daily chat, um, we have different discussion areas where you could
- 1:08:40talk about all kinds of things, homeschool planning, um, books
- 1:08:46you're reading, kind of anything.
- 1:08:47We have f- It's just ladies talking shop, like-minded women talking shop.
- 1:08:54Sandra said, "This challenge helped me see that it is a practice,
- 1:08:58and I get to iterate every day.
- 1:09:01That small shift in my mindset has been monumentally impactful."
- 1:09:06Uh, again, these are other ladies.
- 1:09:07Last time we did a daily card challenge, Katie said, "I've been executing my daily
- 1:09:11card and weekly review consistently.
- 1:09:14It's so rewarding to be setting and achieving goals that are
- 1:09:18important and challenging, but also realistic and doable."
- 1:09:23Rebecca said, "I like the focus it provided.
- 1:09:26Instead of perusing my long task list every time I finish something and
- 1:09:31choosing something to do, I worked on the daily card until it was finished.
- 1:09:36Then I could go on to other things.
- 1:09:37It greatly reduced decision fatigue and distraction."
- 1:09:42And isn't that what we all need?
- 1:09:44Jenny said, "This one small action really does bring clarity and beget
- 1:09:49more directed action than flying blind when you wake up in the morning."
- 1:09:54I like that, beget more directed action.
- 1:09:56It just comes out.
- 1:09:58It comes about when we have that focus.
- 1:10:03Again, I had a hard time choosing which ones to put in here.
- 1:10:07So Chrissa said, "Writing a daily card helps me fight off
- 1:10:10overwhelm and cheerfully tackle what I can actually do every day."
- 1:10:16That's what the daily card challenge is all about.
- 1:10:18Zara said, "I have so much more freedom and peace in Christ when
- 1:10:22I identify my minimum top three.
- 1:10:25I also discovered that doing a challenge is a great way to reboot a habit."
- 1:10:31So if you've done a daily card before, but you've fallen off,
- 1:10:35this is how you get back on it.
- 1:10:37Jessica said, "I feel so much more accomplished and way less overwhelmed when
- 1:10:42I've been consistent with a daily card.
- 1:10:45We have a busy season, and people have asked me if we're overwhelmed,
- 1:10:49and I can honestly say no."
- 1:10:52So many of the responses after our previous daily card challenges were about
- 1:10:59the fact that they were not overwhelmed by what they have to do anymore.
- 1:11:03That's why I picked this topic This practice is a doable way to change our
- 1:11:12default response to the things that we have to do, so we don't feel overwhelmed,
- 1:11:17but we do what we need to be doing.
- 1:11:20Lauren said, "I've tried so many things already, and nothing made a
- 1:11:24difference in me managing life and home.
- 1:11:28But I was wrong.
- 1:11:29What a gift this community has been.
- 1:11:32My whole life has been turned around.
- 1:11:34I'm in control of my emotions and the daily duties.
- 1:11:38I'm completely at peace.
- 1:11:40I feel so much more available for all the Lord has for me each day.
- 1:11:44If I slip up, I just go back to the plan and move along.
- 1:11:50No stress, no spiraling, no sulking."
- 1:11:54I'm ⦠It had alliteration.
- 1:11:56I had to include it.
- 1:11:58"My husband has expressed that he could totally see this shift in me, our
- 1:12:03kids, and the atmosphere of our home."
- 1:12:06That's what we are after in Convivial Circle, and Lauren is not the only one
- 1:12:10who has this kind of story And so right now, if you join for the Daily Card
- 1:12:17Challenge in July, if you join in June, so today or tomorrow, June only has 30
- 1:12:22days, so within the next 48 hours, you will get instant access to a 20-minute
- 1:12:30action accelerator, a quick start mini boot camp video on what a daily card
- 1:12:36is and how to get one put together.
- 1:12:38So you could just jump right in and hopefully get traction faster on
- 1:12:44making a daily card work for you.
- 1:12:47How to choose what to choose, and you can dive right in
- 1:12:51with confidence and momentum.
- 1:12:53It's kind of like a quick catch-up.
- 1:12:55There are ladies in our community who've been in there for 10
- 1:12:58years, five years, three years.
- 1:13:00They've all been practicing daily cards because it is one of our core things.
- 1:13:05And so this is the, the quick catch-up, get you up to speed,
- 1:13:10and I will send you that video if you join in the next 48 hours
- 1:13:15I hope that you will check out Convivial Circle and join us for
- 1:13:20the Daily Card Challenge in July.
- 1:13:22It is one of our top favorite challenges, and we all enjoy the progress that
- 1:13:31we get to make and that productivity, and this time of year is perfect.
- 1:13:36You know, July, August, we can focus on implementing this habit for
- 1:13:42ourselves, managing life, so that when the extra responsibilities and
- 1:13:46schedule gets added when school starts, we have a way to handle all of that.
- 1:13:53Because when we try to implement a whole new management system along
- 1:13:59with the school year changes, it's overloads our system.
- 1:14:05It's too much all at once.
- 1:14:08We need to use this summer to install the personal habit, and then that's in place,
- 1:14:16and all of the extra responsibilities that happen in the school year now
- 1:14:21have a place to go, and we have a way to stay focused on what matters.
- 1:14:24That's already built into our day and our rhythm.
- 1:14:28And really, five minutes a day is all it takes to make your daily card.
- 1:14:32Some ladies, I like to do it at night, do it the night before so
- 1:14:36that I wake up with it ready to go.
- 1:14:39But you can write it with your coffee in the morning,
- 1:14:42like night before, morning of.
- 1:14:45And if you haven't made one, just make one at lunch, and that still counts.
- 1:14:50The midday daily card is also a thing that we s- that still we get benefit from
- 1:14:57because writing things down, keeping it in front of our face makes a big difference.
- 1:15:00So I hope that you will join us for July for the Daily Card Challenge.
- 1:15:05And if you do that in the next day or two, I'll get you that accelerator lesson,
- 1:15:10and we can jumpstart into daily cards.
- 1:15:13All right.
- 1:15:14Thank you, everyone.
