Transcript
- 0:00Here's your host, Alex Garrett, and again here on April twenty fifth,
- 0:08twenty twenty four, six seventeen pm. When I record this podcast, my
- 0:13main question is why isn't doctor Schaffique fired from Columbia University. Why hasn't she
- 0:20been forced to resign? You know, it's amazing. On this podcast,
- 0:25I'm doing a cause to combat anti Semitism on our college campuses. On my
- 0:30Instagram, I'm talking about limb Lass awareness. So I've got a couple of
- 0:35campaigns going on this podcast dedicated to eradicating the anti Semitism on our college campuses
- 0:41right now, and the instagram honoring those with lim lass and you can find
- 0:46that out at Alex g NYC one. But right now, here's the update.
- 0:53We'll get into what's happening tomorrow. But did you hear Mike Johnson speaker
- 0:57Mike Johnson yesterday amidst the chaos, speaking at Columbia University alongside Congressman Nicole Malia
- 1:07Takis. We are endowed by our creator with certain and alienable rights. They
- 1:11should not be infringed. The founders and the great leaders who had come through
- 1:17this institution in the past believed in religious liberty. They believed in democracy,
- 1:21They believed in morality and virtue and the dignity of every human person. They
- 1:26believed in the free exchange of ideas, and they detested mob rule. We
- 1:33are standing here right now in the steps of the Low Library, in this
- 1:37very building right behind US. Columbia University once awarded Winston Churchill in an honorary
- 1:42degree, and it was Churchill who said, it is manifestly right that Jews
- 1:47should have a national home where they may be reunited. We believe in that
- 1:52principle, and today I'm here to proclaim to all those who gnash their teeth
- 1:57and demand to wipe the state of Israel off the map and attack our innocent
- 2:00Jewish students this simple truth. Neither Israel nor these Jewish students on this campus
- 2:08will ever stand alone. Today Hamas issued an endorsement statement of the protesters on
- 2:15this campus. They called them the future leaders of America. It is detestable
- 2:20all of this has to be said, because the cherished traditions of this university
- 2:23are being overtaken right now by radical and extreme ideologies. They place a target
- 2:29on the backs of Jewish students in the United States, and here on this
- 2:31campus, a growing number of students have chanted in support terrorists. They have
- 2:37chased down Jewish students, they have mocked them and reviled them. They have
- 2:40shouted racial epithets. They have screamed and those who bear the Star of David
- 2:52enjoy your free speech. They've told Jewish students who wear the Star of David
- 2:58to leave the country and share aimfully. Some professors and faculty have joined the
- 3:01mobs. Things that have gotten so out of control that the school's canceled in
- 3:06person classes. And now they've come up with this hybrid model where they will
- 3:09discriminate against Jewish students. They are not allowed to come to class anymore for
- 3:14fear of their lives. And it's detestable as Columbia has allowed these lawless agitators
- 3:20and radicals to take over. The virus of anti Semitism has spread across other
- 3:23campuses. By some counts, as many as two hundred universities have a similar
- 3:29form of protest right now. At Yale, a Jewish student was stabbed in
- 3:31the eye with a Palestinian flag, and forty five students were arrested. At
- 3:37NYU pro hamas protesters were shouting from the river to the sea, anti Israel,
- 3:43and campments are popping up at universities all across this country. The madness
- 3:51has to stop. The madness has to stop. We just left the meeting
- 3:55with students Jewish students who told us of the heinous acts of bigotry that they
- 4:00experienced simply because of their faith. Their bravery is inspiring, much more inspiring
- 4:05than some of the activities were seen here. And they should never have to
- 4:09confront such hate on an American college campus instead of such a revered institution.
- 4:15Anti Semitism has been growing in America, and it's clear why powerful people have
- 4:20refused to condemn it, and some have even peddled it themselves, from university
- 4:26professors to public officials. People in positions of authority have denied the horrific facts
- 4:31of September eleven, two thousand and one, the attacks on the United States
- 4:35that happened right here in New York City, and they've attempted to excuse or
- 4:40to ignore the barbaric attack of Hamas in Israel October seven, twenty twenty three,
- 4:46where Israeli women and children were savagely raped and murdered, and infants were
- 4:53cooked in ovens crowds of redicllect activists have chanted death to America and honor our
- 5:00own streets in this country, and sub public officials have refused to condemn them.
- 5:04Others have openly defended these acts on campus and the harassing and the intimidation
- 5:12and the threatening of innocent Jewish students simply because of who they are. They
- 5:15called that peaceful protests, and some have even gone as far as calling for
- 5:19the state of Israel to be eliminated. These are words we expect from iatolas
- 5:25in Iran, not American lawmakers, and not American students, and unsurprisingly,
- 5:30it has given way to threats and violence and a generation of students who feel
- 5:34safe in their own classrooms, who don't feel safe in their own classrooms,
- 5:38or where they live or where they worship. Let me say this very simply,
- 5:42No American of any color or creed should ever have to live under those
- 5:46kinds of threats. That is not who we are in this country. Sadly,
- 5:50Colombia's administrators have chosen to let the threats, the fear, and the
- 5:56intimidation of the mob rule to overtake American principles like free speech and the free
- 6:01free exchange of ideas and the free exercise of religion. They have co opted
- 6:06First Amendment arguments to protect genocide and to elevate the voices of anti Semitism.
- 6:15They've proven themselves to be incapable of achieving their basic responsibility, which is keeping
- 6:19students safe. We just can't allow this kind of hatred and anti semitism to
- 6:25flourish on our campuses, and it must be stopped in its tracks. Those
- 6:30who are perpetrating this violence should be arrested. And I'm here today. I
- 6:34am here today joining my colleagues and calling on President Shaffi to resign if she
- 6:40cannot immediately bring order to this chaos. As Speaker of the House, I
- 6:46am committing today that the Congress will not be silent as Jewish students are expected
- 6:51to run for their lives and stay home from their classes, hiding in fear.
- 6:57In the House of Representatives, We've already acted to address anti semitism on
- 7:00campuses. We have passed a number of statutes to address this matter, and
- 7:04we call upon the US Senate to act upon our legislation. That was really
- 7:11powerful, I thought from Speaker Johnson amidst the chaos on Columbia university, and
- 7:16here's what Congressman Nicole Mollia Tuck has had to say on the steps of the
- 7:23Low Library on the campus of Columbia. Welcome to New York City. Yes,
- 7:27indeed, well, thank you very much for coming today. I'm so
- 7:32happy to welcome the speaker to New York City and we appreciate his leadership and
- 7:38coming here to condemn the anti Semitism that has been allowed to fester on this
- 7:44campus. We just met with a group of students who told us that not
- 7:48only have they been bullied, but they've been many of them assaulted, they
- 7:53have been spat on, They have had to walk the halls of this campus
- 7:59to see swaps painted. These are clear examples of anti semitism, and it's
- 8:05shocking to see that it's happening in the most diverse and welcoming city in America.
- 8:13It is truly outrageous, and it's clear that the president of this university
- 8:18cannot control the campus they can. She cannot and will not hold students who
- 8:26are doing these types of anti Semitic activities accountable, and that she cannot keep
- 8:31the students who are of Jewish faith, who paid a lot of money and
- 8:35have worked very hard to get to an IVY League institution like this, that
- 8:39she cannot keep them safe. And that is why I joined my colleagues in
- 8:45calling for her resignation. Thank you, and there you have it from the
- 8:50Columbia University steps Congresswoman Nicole Molly and Takas and Speaker Mike Johnson stepping out in
- 8:58front of it and in favor of the Jewish student body population. And why
- 9:09I play these two is because it means calls are growing. When the Speaker
- 9:13of the House calls for the resignation of a college president such as Colomba University,
- 9:18that's a big deal. When a congresswoman from Staten Island comes all the
- 9:22way to Morningside Heights and says enough's enough, President Schaffique must resign, that
- 9:30says a lot too. But then there's this, Then there is this.
- 9:37Tomorrow, doctor Mmit Schaffique will most likely be facing a censure ship vote,
- 9:46according to New York Times. Now, I was looking through what update I
- 9:54can give you guys on this today, and I'm going to post a link
- 9:58up about this. But as during chaotic day, Columbia's university president fights for
- 10:05her job. The Columbia board has made in support of doctor Scheffique clear,
- 10:15but the university's senate might admonish her, might censure her. Here are some
- 10:24excerpts from this article in The Times that I want to share with you tonight
- 10:28on the eve of most likely her censorship vote. Does If doctor Scheffique ultimately
- 10:33remains a top Columbia, her meeting with the university Senate made plain, it
- 10:39will likely be as a scarred one. Now you would think it's because it's
- 10:48the fact that she's endangered the lives of Jewish people, of Jewish of the
- 10:54Jewish student body, and Jewish professors. But the resolution coil the New York
- 11:00Times that is written here says this. The university resolution says doctor Chefik had
- 11:16endangered both the welfare and the futures of the arrested students that were protesting and
- 11:24saying vile anti Semitic things. Yes, the resolution that the University Senate wants
- 11:33to censor her for is not for endangering the lives of Jewish students. It's
- 11:37the lives of the protesters. For my vantage point any encampment, there should
- 11:43be no future for those who have said anti Semitic things, for those who
- 11:52have encamped on a college university with hatred. The futures of the arrested students
- 12:01and the suspensions should hold. The future should not be a future as far
- 12:07as I could see, if they're going to sit there on in the encampment
- 12:11and promote anti Semitic ideology and boo when the speaker of the House calls for
- 12:18the safety of Jewish people. So far, the university Senate is not expected
- 12:22to call for her removal, but a censor vote is meant to signal serious
- 12:26disapproval, not a demand for an ouster. So basically, according to the
- 12:33Times, she's up for a censorship vote, but not for the reason you
- 12:37would think. Not for the reason that she's endangered the lives of the Jewish
- 12:41student body. No, no, no, she's in dangered the lives of
- 12:45the protesters. The coddling of anti Semitism is continuing in Colombia. Think about
- 12:54that, by not only allowing her to be president still, but by censuring
- 13:05her for not doing enough to protect the protesters who are encamping on private property
- 13:13and spewing anti Semitic ideals. See where I have a problem with this resolution.
- 13:22When I heard that she's up for censure a center, and I was
- 13:26excited, Oh my god, finally someone's speaking out on behalf of the Jewish
- 13:28people. But no, the resolution is saying doctor Sheviki endangered the welfare in
- 13:35the future of the arrested students, not those who are at home, and
- 13:39of fear of going to college for a degree that, as Congressman Molly Takers
- 13:46says, they are earning, they are paying for it, says the doctor.
- 13:52Cheffiku, according to those in the meeting with her, used part of
- 13:56a roughly hour long appearance to acknowledge that the decision to bring in the police
- 14:01had exacerbated the problems, so she blamed the cops for clearing out two While
- 14:07we're at it. This woman should not be leading Columbia University anymore. And
- 14:16I've been on this for three days now and I'll continue to be I'll let
- 14:18you know how the censorship vote goes. But it's not a censorship to say,
- 14:24oh, you should be censured for the way you've treated the Jewish people.
- 14:26Know it's the way you've treated the protesters. Columbia University Senate, what
- 14:31are you doing? What are you doing? You should be protecting the rights
- 14:41of the Jewish people. Now, I'm sure if she censured, I think
- 14:45the board should then fire her. And maybe that'll help the lives of the
- 14:50Jewish people. So maybe indiscriminately, if you will, they are helping the
- 14:56Jewish people, accidentally helping Thejewish people instead of being that the main focus of
- 15:01the University Senate. I might reach out to a Columbia spectator and see what's
- 15:07going on up there. Tomorrow, once we get more word on the censorship
- 15:13vote by the Columbia University Senate, she'll be a scarred figure, all right,
- 15:20but not for abandoning the safety of the Jewish people, but for causing
- 15:28the arrest of the anarchists. Think about that as we hit Friday tomorrow.
- 15:37Think about that that she's going to be scarred for endangering the lives of the
- 15:41protesters who are in fact indigenerous lives of real students that are of Jewish descent.
- 15:50And that protest that became anarchy, that became ten City, has spread
- 15:56to other chemps as Princeton today dealing with it, Brown University, USC Texas,
- 16:06all because doctor Schaffique has let this happen in our very own city.
- 16:12It is disgusting and I'm so proud of Mike Johnson and Congresswoman Malia Takis Speaker
- 16:19Johnson for coming up to Morningside Heights, for going up to morning Inside Heights
- 16:25and speaking up for the Jewish population. This isn't over yet, and we're
- 16:30gonna stay on it. On The Alex Garrett Podcast Network
