- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter twenty three. The elephant silently, shall I endure abuse
- 0:08Speaker 1: as the elephant in battle endures the arrow sent from
- 0:12Speaker 1: the bow, For the world is ill natured. They lead
- 0:17Speaker 1: a tame elephant to battle. The king mounts a tamed elephant.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The tamed is the best among men, he who silently
- 0:28Speaker 1: endures abuse. Mules are good if tamed, and noble sindow
- 0:35Speaker 1: horses and elephants with large tusks. But he who tames
- 0:41Speaker 1: himself is better still. For with these animals does no
- 0:46Speaker 1: man reach the untrodden country Nirvana, where a tamed man
- 0:52Speaker 1: goes on a tamed animal, namely on his own well
- 0:57Speaker 1: tamed self. The elephant called don Apolloca, his temples running
- 1:04Speaker 1: with sap and difficult to hold, does not eat a morsel.
- 1:09Speaker 1: When bound, the elephant longs for the elephant grove. If
- 1:16Speaker 1: a man becomes fat and a great eater, if he
- 1:20Speaker 1: is sleepy and rolls himself about, that fool like a
- 1:25Speaker 1: hog fed on wash, is born again and again. This
- 1:32Speaker 1: mind of mine went formerly wandering about as it liked,
- 1:37Speaker 1: as it listed as it pleased. But I shall now
- 1:41Speaker 1: hold it in thoroughly, as the rider who holds the
- 1:45Speaker 1: hook holds in the furious elephant. Be not thoughtless, watch
- 1:52Speaker 1: your thoughts. Draw yourself out of the evil way, like
- 1:57Speaker 1: an elephant sunk in mud. If a man find a
- 2:03Speaker 1: prudent companion who walks with him is wise and lives soberly,
- 2:09Speaker 1: he may walk with him overcoming all dangers, happy, but considerate.
- 2:17Speaker 1: If a man find no prudent companion who walks with
- 2:20Speaker 1: him is wise and lives soberly, let him walk alone,
- 2:27Speaker 1: like a king who has left his conquered country behind.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Like an elephant in the forest. It is better to
- 2:36Speaker 1: live alone. There is no companionship with a fool. Let
- 2:41Speaker 1: a man walk alone. Let him commit no sin, with
- 2:45Speaker 1: few wishes, like an elephant in the forest. If an
- 2:53Speaker 1: occasion arises, friends are pleasant, Enjoyment is pleasant, whatever be
- 2:59Speaker 1: the cause. A good work is pleasant. In the hour
- 3:03Speaker 1: of death, the giving up of all grief is pleasant.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Pleasant In the world is the state of a mother pleasant,
- 3:14Speaker 1: The state of a father pleasant, the state of a
- 3:17Speaker 1: somana pleasant, the state of a bramina pleasant is virtue
- 3:24Speaker 1: lasting to old age. Pleasant is a faith firmly rooted.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Pleasant is attainment of intelligence. Pleasant is avoiding of sins.
- 3:40Speaker 1: End of Chapter twenty three,
