Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This media podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to met Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart, and today
- 0:17Speaker 2: we're joined by Randall, Corey, Nate and Roman. This is
- 0:20Speaker 2: a ten round quiz show with questions from meat Eater's
- 0:23Speaker 2: four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. And
- 0:26Speaker 2: there's a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred dollars
- 0:29Speaker 2: to the Conservation Organization. Of the winners. Choosing now today
- 0:33Speaker 2: is Randal v Jibbroni's. That means it will be the
- 0:38Speaker 2: big bad Randall up against Corey, Nate and Roman. Randal,
- 0:42Speaker 2: how do you feel about your chances?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Oh?
- 0:45Speaker 1: You know, I think I think we've got some strong
- 0:48Speaker 1: competitors on the other side of the table. I think
- 0:50Speaker 1: it really just comes down to if the questions bounce
- 0:53Speaker 1: my way or not. So I'm curious to see how
- 0:55Speaker 1: you've gamed this out.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Okay, just a standard ten pack of questions. Jabroni's do
- 1:00Speaker 2: you think you can best Randall today?
- 1:02Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:02Speaker 5: Yeah, Like, I'm so supremely confident.
- 1:06Speaker 2: You're never lacking confidence, Nate, Nope.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I've never been insulted in that way.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Now, the first time we did this, it was six
- 1:14Speaker 2: Jabebronis against Randall and they overwhelmed him with a two
- 1:18Speaker 2: point victory.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Ye.
- 1:20Speaker 2: The second time we did this, it was three Jabebronis
- 1:23Speaker 2: against Brody, and Brody took a one point victory with
- 1:26Speaker 2: a correct answer on question ten. On that day it
- 1:29Speaker 2: was Nate Corey and Tresa. So we've swapped out Tresa
- 1:33Speaker 2: for Roman. Roman, what are you gonna bring to the
- 1:35Speaker 2: team today?
- 1:36Speaker 4: Oh gosh, let's go with like movies or music, something
- 1:40Speaker 4: kind of cultural, none of that history.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Roman's a real well rounded individual, Okay, So I'm
- 1:48Speaker 1: curious to see what he adds to this mix.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Now here's our Infrequently Asked question segment. If you have
- 1:53Speaker 2: a trivia related question for our crew, send it to
- 1:56Speaker 2: trivia at the Media medieater dot com with the subject
- 1:59Speaker 2: line eye faq. Joel Hill says, Hey, Spencer, are you
- 2:02Speaker 2: worried about running out of trivia questions? I used to be, Joel.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I used to be fearful that this would only last
- 2:10Speaker 2: like a year. Then I started pushing the boundaries on
- 2:13Speaker 2: what Meat Eater trivia could be, and it would always
- 2:16Speaker 2: make Brody and Steve angry. But I feel like I've
- 2:20Speaker 2: created a big enough universe now where I can do
- 2:23Speaker 2: music and some history and movies that there are enough
- 2:28Speaker 2: questions to get us a few more years. The other
- 2:31Speaker 2: thing that gives me confidence that this show can go
- 2:33Speaker 2: on for a while are the listeners, because you guys
- 2:36Speaker 2: send in like ten to twenty questions each day, and
- 2:39Speaker 2: some of them are very good, and they make it
- 2:41Speaker 2: on the show. So I think we have a long
- 2:44Speaker 2: runway yet, Joel. But yes, I used to be worried
- 2:47Speaker 2: when I thought every question had to have the answer
- 2:50Speaker 2: of thirty odd six springfield or large mouth bass. Everything
- 2:54Speaker 2: needed to be hooking bullet. It felt like a different show,
- 2:56Speaker 2: but we were not there anymore.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And it's caused no small amount of consternation.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Now they've just accepted it. I think Brody will just
- 3:05Speaker 2: quietly roll his eyes instead of outwardly be angry with me.
- 3:11Speaker 2: All right, before we start, I want to reiterate how
- 3:13Speaker 2: this will go. After I ask a question, Randall will
- 3:16Speaker 2: write down his answer. Once Randall has his answer locked
- 3:19Speaker 2: in our Jabebroni's will get a chance to come together
- 3:22Speaker 2: and think out loud. Then their captain will write down
- 3:26Speaker 2: and answer. So Jabebroni's we need you to decide who's
- 3:29Speaker 2: the captain, Corey, Nate or Roman.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I'm voting with Roman.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Roman.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Okay, last time we had Tresa as a captain, so
- 3:38Speaker 2: they've they've got rid of their captain Tresa. Cowards for
- 3:41Speaker 2: Captain Roman instead. If you're playing along at home, consider
- 3:45Speaker 2: ganging up on Randal with whoever you're listening with, because
- 3:48Speaker 2: we would just like him to lose today, or just.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Do it the normal way.
- 3:51Speaker 5: That's right.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I just hope everybody has a good time.
- 3:54Speaker 2: The Shelby Index is a five, so I'm putting us
- 3:57Speaker 2: on perfect score alert.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Oh.
- 3:59Speaker 2: With that, we're onto the game of truth. Ex play
- 4:02Speaker 2: the drop fill. Look, I need to know what I
- 4:08Speaker 2: stay under win everything?
- 4:11Speaker 1: How's it just tend to win everything?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Demon Suckers Question one. The topic is wildlife. This first
- 4:25Speaker 2: great question is via Maverick Ball and as always, it
- 4:28Speaker 2: will be multiple choice.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Love that name.
- 4:31Speaker 2: According to the Mountain Lion Foundation, which of these states
- 4:35Speaker 2: does not have a breeding population of mountain lions? Is
- 4:39Speaker 2: it Texas, Kansas, Florida, or North Dakota. According to the
- 4:48Speaker 2: Mountain Lion Foundation, which of these states does not have
- 4:51Speaker 2: a breeding population of mountain lions. Three of them do
- 4:56Speaker 2: have a breeding population. One of them does not. Is
- 4:58Speaker 2: it Texas, can Florida or North Dakota? Ooy, good question,
- 5:04Speaker 2: mister Maverick Maverick Balls. Randall still has a blank whiteboard.
- 5:10Speaker 2: He also has an entire side of the podcast table
- 5:12Speaker 2: to himself. Do you like that, Randall? Or do you
- 5:14Speaker 2: like to be shoulder to shoulder with folks? I like
- 5:18Speaker 2: having my own side very roomy over there.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no danger in people looking over your shoulder.
- 5:27Speaker 1: That's just a good question.
- 5:28Speaker 2: These states does not have a breeding population of mountain lions. Texas, Kansas, Florida,
- 5:36Speaker 2: North Dakota.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I presume this is like not in captivity.
- 5:40Speaker 2: M Yeah, it does not count if it's in a zoo. Randall,
- 5:43Speaker 2: Do you have your answer?
- 5:45Speaker 1: I do?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Okay. Randall's answer is locked in Corey Natan Roman. You
- 5:49Speaker 2: can think aloud about what the right answer might be.
- 5:53Speaker 5: I feel supremely confident that it's not Texas. I don't
- 5:56Speaker 5: know why, but I do.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I feel pretty good that it's not Florida either.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Take that off. I think Florida is the sleeper one.
- 6:03Speaker 5: But it's never a truck question.
- 6:04Speaker 3: They have black panthers, which is that's what I'm I
- 6:09Speaker 3: don't think so, I think it's just a yeah, I
- 6:11Speaker 3: think that's a myth.
- 6:13Speaker 4: I kind of lean towards North Dakota myself.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Oh see, I want to say Kansas, but because North
- 6:19Speaker 3: Dakota has elk and lions love to eat elk, but
- 6:22Speaker 3: that's not a good reason whatsoever.
- 6:24Speaker 5: They also love to eat deer.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Kansas is as flat as a pancake, and lions love
- 6:30Speaker 3: mountains in the name cliffs.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I'm very entertained by all of this.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It's a good banter.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm on Gor, I'm on team Cory.
- 6:40Speaker 3: You could us, Yeah, cowards.
- 6:44Speaker 6: They only made you the captains. They could throw you.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So we have Corey saying it's what I believe, it's Kansas,
- 6:56Speaker 2: and Nate with them. Roman, what do you think it is?
- 6:59Speaker 1: Roman?
- 7:00Speaker 4: You see, I'm trying to leverage my job and the
- 7:03Speaker 4: weird stuff people.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeahs Roman reads every email that you guys send him.
- 7:08Speaker 2: So when you send him a trailcam photo of a
- 7:11Speaker 2: little baby mountain lion cub, he knows right where that
- 7:14Speaker 2: came from.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I feel like, of these states, I've gotten the coolest
- 7:17Speaker 4: cat photos from Texas. Oh, but I'll go with my team.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Jabebroni's are you ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 7:26Speaker 2: We have the jabebronis saying Kansas and Randall says Kansas
- 7:30Speaker 2: hot Dog. The correct answer is Kansas. Show nice guys
- 7:36Speaker 2: did well. According to the Mountain Lion Foundation, sixteen states
- 7:40Speaker 2: have breeding populations of cougars. Earlier this year, officials in
- 7:45Speaker 2: Oklahoma confirmed that Mountain Lion cubs were spotted in Osage County,
- 7:50Speaker 2: so they are now state seventeen. Kansas has had over
- 7:53Speaker 2: one hundred confirmed sightings since two thousand and seven, but
- 7:57Speaker 2: says they have no evidence that the big cats are
- 7:59Speaker 2: breeding there.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Hmmm, fascinating.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Question two. The topic is wildlife. This nine letter word
- 8:06Speaker 2: is defined as quote a bird that is ready to
- 8:09Speaker 2: leave the nest, but not yet capable of fully flying.
- 8:15Speaker 2: We have Randal, Corey and Nate and Roman All writing
- 8:20Speaker 2: down an answer. Randall, do you have your nine letter word?
- 8:24Speaker 1: I think so.
- 8:25Speaker 2: This nine letter word is defined as a bird that
- 8:28Speaker 2: is ready to leave the nest but not yet capable
- 8:31Speaker 2: of flying. Okay, Randall has his answer locked in. Jabroni's
- 8:36Speaker 2: what do you think it is now?
- 8:37Speaker 1: We're telling jokes over there and fills in on it.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Randall's answer is locked in. So tell us what you're
- 8:45Speaker 2: thinking here.
- 8:46Speaker 3: We're just thinking of telling you the answer.
- 8:49Speaker 2: What's the star Wars answer?
- 8:51Speaker 5: Well, one of us might have wrote down young wings.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Nothing confused with the ying ling beer, which that's a
- 8:58Speaker 3: good beer.
- 8:58Speaker 5: It is.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Everybody read, Yeah, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 9:03Speaker 2: have the bronis saying fledgling, and Randall says hatchling. Oh,
- 9:09Speaker 2: come on, what the correct answer is? Fledgling. Fledgling is
- 9:19Speaker 2: one step beyond a nestling, which is a bird that's
- 9:23Speaker 2: too young to leave the nest. A fledgling is usually
- 9:27Speaker 2: capable of walking, hopping, and brief flight. This stage varies
- 9:31Speaker 2: by species, but for most songbirds it occurs around three
- 9:34Speaker 2: weeks of age and lasts for about ten days.
- 9:37Speaker 5: My dog was chasing a bunch of ducks around in
- 9:39Speaker 5: a lake last week that couldn't really fly, but they
- 9:42Speaker 5: could kind of fly.
- 9:43Speaker 2: That sounds like a fledgling to me. No, hatchling, I
- 9:47Speaker 2: think would be even younger than that. That way, I
- 9:49Speaker 2: think be in the same category as a nest just
- 9:52Speaker 2: after the hatching. That's right.
- 9:55Speaker 3: How did Chip do? Did he get one?
- 9:58Speaker 1: No?
- 9:58Speaker 5: But dude, he's so funny. He'll just go whim like.
- 10:01Speaker 5: He'll just go in the water and just swim for
- 10:02Speaker 5: an hour, no no direction, just swimming.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I hear these terms thrown around in business a little
- 10:08Speaker 2: bit so. Nate working at f HF on the sewing machine,
- 10:12Speaker 2: are you a nestling a fledgling? Are you just like
- 10:15Speaker 2: a full adult?
- 10:16Speaker 5: I would ask Randall that question today? Is that because
- 10:20Speaker 5: I've sewed him up with a super sweet little deal.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Get some custom working done.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Nate over here? Is he a nestling who's just like
- 10:28Speaker 2: a little baby bird? Or is he a fledged.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Wings?
- 10:33Speaker 2: Can't quite fly?
- 10:34Speaker 1: Paul is still feeding him by vomiting into his mouth.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But but I think he's doing pretty good.
- 10:40Speaker 2: He did help, Okay, good Question three? The topic is
- 10:45Speaker 2: fishing bird question. This next great question is via Brandon
- 10:50Speaker 2: heat Bridge.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Lots of good names.
- 10:52Speaker 2: This former Oregon Duck and current Los Angeles charger was
- 10:57Speaker 2: the president of his high school fishing club.
- 11:00Speaker 5: This is you, Roman, This is why you're here. I
- 11:02Speaker 5: was hoping you were the sports guy Duck.
- 11:06Speaker 2: This is former Oregon Duck and current Los Angeles Charger
- 11:11Speaker 2: was the president of his high school fishing trying to
- 11:13Speaker 2: think of all the charge Randall, do you have your
- 11:15Speaker 2: answer locked down? Okay? This guy was an Orgon duck
- 11:19Speaker 2: and a charger.
- 11:20Speaker 5: One of the boasts a brother. Both Bosas went to
- 11:22Speaker 5: Ohio State, so it's not him. Uh who's there.
- 11:26Speaker 1: The Ohio Oh my gosh.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems like Randall has this one right.
- 11:32Speaker 5: Who's their quarterback? He didn't go to Oregon, Justin Herbert,
- 11:39Speaker 5: he didn't. He looks like a duck hunter though. He
- 11:42Speaker 5: looks like dude would be fun to hang out with.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Corey. Do you follow the NFL a little?
- 11:48Speaker 5: The NFL Eckler isn't on there.
- 11:50Speaker 6: And who's up to me?
- 11:50Speaker 4: I'd go with the most standard American name, dude.
- 11:52Speaker 5: I bet he's like a lineman. I don't know any
- 11:54Speaker 5: of the I don't know any.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Of the former Oregon duck and current Los Angeles charger
- 11:59Speaker 2: was the president of his high school fishing club.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Mark It, Marcus Mary.
- 12:04Speaker 5: He's not on the charges anymore. He's I don't use
- 12:06Speaker 5: playing anymore. But he was a duck, Yeah he was.
- 12:09Speaker 5: He was good.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Look at you, sports ball, Hey you.
- 12:12Speaker 5: Got duck on your shirt?
- 12:13Speaker 3: Quack the idea sports Chargers.
- 12:18Speaker 1: As they as they flop about sports ball, sports ball.
- 12:24Speaker 5: I love the NFL. I'm so excited for the season.
- 12:27Speaker 1: So am I.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Okay, we're gonna need you to by Justin Herbert's like
- 12:31Speaker 5: the only charger. I don't think he went to a.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Herbert.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Captain Roman's writing down their answer. Go ahead and reveal
- 12:43Speaker 2: your answers. We have the Jabroni's and Randall saying Justin Herbert.
- 12:47Speaker 2: They got it, let's go. The correct answer is Justin Herbert.
- 12:52Speaker 5: It does look like a duck hunter, a fisher.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Fisherman. Herbert co founded the Irish Fishing Club in two
- 12:59Speaker 2: thoy fourteen, and it got so popular that it grew
- 13:02Speaker 2: to eighty members in the first year. The club is
- 13:04Speaker 2: still around today, serving high schoolers in Eugene, Oregon and beyond.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Here is a picture of Herbert as a teen, proudly
- 13:12Speaker 2: holding a.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Carp Yeah, you're right, You're right, Nate. He does look
- 13:15Speaker 1: like he'd be fun to hang out with.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Yes, I had him on my fantasy team two years ago.
- 13:19Speaker 5: He was three years ago, had a great year.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Mom got him, Phil got it.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Good on you, Nate for figuring out who that Oregon
- 13:26Speaker 2: duck in Los Angeles was cool. Question for the topic
- 13:31Speaker 2: is conservation. The National Park Service says this program is
- 13:36Speaker 2: quote a way to introduce children and those young at
- 13:39Speaker 2: heart to the natural wonders of the park. Randal very
- 13:44Speaker 2: quick to come up with his answer, Randall, is your
- 13:46Speaker 2: answer locked in?
- 13:47Speaker 1: Yes?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Okay, Randall's answer is locked in. That means it is
- 13:50Speaker 2: up to our Jabbroni's. The National Park Service says this
- 13:54Speaker 2: program is a way to introduce children and those young
- 13:58Speaker 2: at heart to the natural wonders of the park.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Is it like a boy Scouts thing or little smokies.
- 14:07Speaker 1: That you have kids sausage?
- 14:10Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Avoid the National Parks though.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Oh, come on, talking like Steve there.
- 14:16Speaker 2: The National Park Service. This program is a way to
- 14:20Speaker 2: introduce children and those young at heart to the natural
- 14:23Speaker 2: wonders of.
- 14:24Speaker 5: The park, like little rangers. Oh wait, what's that little like?
- 14:28Speaker 3: Uhranger?
- 14:29Speaker 5: The little like like you have to find a there's
- 14:32Speaker 5: like a scavenger hunting parks.
- 14:33Speaker 3: You know I'm talking about no Pokemon go I thought
- 14:38Speaker 3: about that.
- 14:40Speaker 2: The National Parks. This program is a way to introduce
- 14:44Speaker 2: children and those young at heart to the natural wonders
- 14:46Speaker 2: of the park.
- 14:47Speaker 3: It's obviously very easy, Randall road down.
- 14:50Speaker 1: We got the other one easily too.
- 14:52Speaker 5: I'm telling you, it's like the little QR code deal,
- 14:54Speaker 5: or like it's like a scavenger hunt.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, right down QR code Pokemon.
- 14:58Speaker 5: Go was an answer. Dude. Oh, it's like.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Little Rangers or little.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Dude scavenger hunts as far as I'm getting, Oh, get
- 15:09Speaker 5: Marshall in here, you know, yeah, he.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Would know because his dad doesn't take him to the
- 15:13Speaker 2: parks that I've been to some national monuments.
- 15:16Speaker 3: I feel like maybe we've done this, But what the
- 15:18Speaker 3: heck is it called? Little? I think like little Rangers
- 15:22Speaker 3: is all I could come up with.
- 15:23Speaker 4: That's better than nothing.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah, power, power Rangers, little Rangers, young Rangers, youth rangers.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Why not, all right, reveal your answers. We have JABRONI
- 15:40Speaker 2: saying little rangers, Randall says, Junior Rangers the Junior Ranger program.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Examples of activities from the Junior Ranger program include writing
- 15:55Speaker 2: a poem about a fossil, learning indigenous names for plants,
- 15:59Speaker 2: or doing an ani Well themed crossword. Upon completing a task,
- 16:02Speaker 2: you're awarded with a Junior Ranger badge. There's no age
- 16:06Speaker 2: limit on the program, of which there are two hundred
- 16:09Speaker 2: participating locations in the Park Service. So, Nate, you danced
- 16:12Speaker 2: around the answer. You had all the details, but you
- 16:15Speaker 2: didn't have Junior Ranger you could participate, though, Nate, they
- 16:19Speaker 2: let any age group, wow, come in and do it.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I mean it sounds like you've got a couple of
- 16:23Speaker 1: badges down. No, I wish I haven't written a poem
- 16:25Speaker 1: about a fossil.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Not at a park.
- 16:30Speaker 3: No.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I wish I would have been participating in this as
- 16:34Speaker 2: a kid, though I would love to have like one
- 16:35Speaker 2: hundred Junior Ranger program.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Wait, so each park has a different badge?
- 16:40Speaker 2: Yes, ok, and I some some parks may have multiple badges.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Don't quote me on that, but they're they're very popular.
- 16:47Speaker 2: National monuments have them as well National historic sites. Randall,
- 16:50Speaker 2: do you have any Junior Ranger badges?
- 16:53Speaker 5: Answer that quickly.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I just I just knew knew of this program. General
- 17:01Speaker 1: encounters with the world around me.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Question five. The topic is hunting. This next great question
- 17:06Speaker 2: is via Jason Motz. This gun maker whose famous for
- 17:10Speaker 2: lever actions, uses the slogan quote made in America. We're
- 17:15Speaker 2: not made at all. Randall quick to answer, but now
- 17:22Speaker 2: he is erasing. Nate wrote down an answer as well,
- 17:29Speaker 2: and Corey might have to duke it out. This gun maker,
- 17:36Speaker 2: who's famous for lever actions, uses the slogan made in
- 17:40Speaker 2: America or not made at all? Randall, is your answer
- 17:43Speaker 2: locked in? All right? Jabroni's but here you are, let's
- 17:47Speaker 2: go with that.
- 17:48Speaker 5: No, I'd like I am in Barlin. For the listeners, I.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Put Henry, and we now have Nate and Corey arguing
- 17:57Speaker 2: with each other all the one's answer is.
- 18:00Speaker 1: But Roman is the team cat.
- 18:02Speaker 5: You might need to be the typewreak.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Captain, Oh, captain, You guys both have older names than
- 18:06Speaker 4: I was thinking.
- 18:07Speaker 3: What were you thinking?
- 18:08Speaker 1: Oh?
- 18:09Speaker 4: I was just thinking Remington for some reason.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I don't think they're known for now. I would have
- 18:12Speaker 1: gone with Winchester if we were talking about the old standards.
- 18:15Speaker 2: This gun maker, who's famous for lever actions uses the
- 18:18Speaker 2: slogan made in America or not made at all. Nate
- 18:21Speaker 2: thinks it's Marlin. Corey thinks it's Henry. But they've convinced
- 18:25Speaker 2: each other that those are wrong and the other one
- 18:27Speaker 2: has it right. So they're in a real pretzel here.
- 18:30Speaker 3: It is a pretzel that is a pretzel. Yeah, I
- 18:33Speaker 3: mean I are either of these made in America anymore?
- 18:36Speaker 5: Well, Marlin just got bought by somebody in America. I
- 18:42Speaker 5: think so, dude, Ah Current, I'm embarrassing myself.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Randa, what percent chance do you have this one?
- 18:48Speaker 4: Right?
- 18:50Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Ninety ninety five percent chance?
- 18:55Speaker 1: Fell pretty good?
- 18:56Speaker 5: Marlin better than Henry. Okay, what they will seem historical
- 19:01Speaker 5: to me?
- 19:02Speaker 3: Cheese with this pretzel?
- 19:04Speaker 2: You choose Captain Roman writing down their answer. Go ahead
- 19:08Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have the JABBRONI saying Marlin,
- 19:12Speaker 2: Randall saying Henry. The correct answer is Henry. Randall got
- 19:19Speaker 2: it right. Despite the name Henry Repeating, Arms is not
- 19:24Speaker 2: affiliated with the original Henry rifle that was patented in
- 19:28Speaker 2: eighteen sixty. The company was created in nineteen ninety six
- 19:32Speaker 2: by founders who have no relation to Benjamin Tyler Henry.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Today they employ eight hundred people across three factories in
- 19:39Speaker 2: Wisconsin and New Jersey. Randall, have you ever owned a
- 19:42Speaker 2: Henry rifle? No?
- 19:44Speaker 1: I haven't. What tipped me off, though, was that they
- 19:47Speaker 1: often do like commemorative releases that are patriotic. And also,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I've owned Marlins and I've paid attention to that brand
- 19:56Speaker 1: more than I have to Henry, and I've never and
- 20:00Speaker 1: think of this as a Marlin slogan.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Good on you for finding the.
- 20:03Speaker 1: A little more understated. I think.
- 20:05Speaker 2: All right, we're halfway through the game of trivia, Phil
- 20:07Speaker 2: give us a scoreboard update.
- 20:10Speaker 6: Well, once labeled flopping and flustered by his opponents at
- 20:14Speaker 6: the top of the game, Randall has pulled ahead. At
- 20:17Speaker 6: halftime he has four points.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Last question was kind of cool, calm and collected, right.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I remember that, Yeah, very cool?
- 20:25Speaker 1: And then these guys were arguing with each other.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I do remember question six. The topic is mountain men?
- 20:34Speaker 2: What two thousand.
- 20:38Speaker 3: One?
- 20:38Speaker 2: Two thousand and two Michael punk Book is the movie
- 20:41Speaker 2: The Revenant based on? Get we're on question six? What
- 20:47Speaker 2: two thousand and two Michael punk Book is the movie
- 20:50Speaker 2: The Revenant based on? Randall? Is your answer locked in?
- 20:54Speaker 1: Pretty sure?
- 20:55Speaker 2: Okay has his whiteboard down, so it's up to our
- 21:01Speaker 2: jab brownis now.
- 21:06Speaker 1: What it could be?
- 21:07Speaker 3: Hugh Glass, It's not called The Revenants?
- 21:10Speaker 2: Two thousand and two. Michael punk Book is the movie
- 21:12Speaker 2: The Revenant based off.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of the Michael punk book about
- 21:16Speaker 1: the Butte Mind Disaster. That's a good one.
- 21:20Speaker 2: No, Ridgeline was about the Fetterman, the Butte Mind Disaster.
- 21:24Speaker 2: What is it called? Did you see he's got a
- 21:26Speaker 2: big banner on Main Street this week.
- 21:29Speaker 6: He's the convocation speaker at MSU.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And they're supposed to read the Butte Mining Disaster book
- 21:34Speaker 2: for that event.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that was. That was one of the required readings
- 21:39Speaker 1: in uh, the Intro Montana history class that you have.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Again, we're on question six. The topic is mountain men.
- 21:46Speaker 2: What two thousand and two Michael punk book is the
- 21:49Speaker 2: movie The Revenant isnton Courage?
- 21:51Speaker 4: Uh?
- 21:51Speaker 5: No, that's Lewsien Clark.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Well, Steven Ambrose.
- 21:56Speaker 3: I read this last Archery season, which was very freaky.
- 21:58Speaker 3: While I'm sitting in it under a tarp and bear country. God,
- 22:02Speaker 3: I swear the cover just said the revenue on it.
- 22:05Speaker 4: It's not like the Tailor, the adventure, the story.
- 22:10Speaker 1: How on that? Hmmm?
- 22:13Speaker 2: Our Jibbronis are losing confidence the name.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Of that book. This is all you.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I don't know, sure, don't put it on me.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Only watched the.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Movie Revenge.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Fire in Brimstone. The North Bute Mining Disaster of nineteen
- 22:32Speaker 2: seventeen an incredible story Yeah. If you live in this
- 22:34Speaker 2: part of the world and you like meat, eat your stuff,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you're gonna like anything. Michael Punk, Yeah, it was Britain,
- 22:40Speaker 2: all right, Draw brownis what have we got? Three blank whiteboards?
- 22:44Speaker 2: I got nothing, three stressed out fellas. Just write whatever
- 22:49Speaker 2: you want, just right with it, right down, whatever you wantage.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Junior Rangers almost what did you guys say?
- 23:02Speaker 2: Little rangers?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Little Rangers, power Rangers? What?
- 23:06Speaker 2: Two thousand and two Much Punk book is the movie
- 23:08Speaker 2: The Revenant based on Jaebrowni's got nothing. I don't know
- 23:12Speaker 2: no answers.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Write down the Revenant though, can't.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Hurt's run it blank?
- 23:20Speaker 2: Randall's trying to help you, guys. Are you ready go
- 23:24Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers? We have the jabebronis saying
- 23:26Speaker 2: the Revenant and Randall saying the Revenant. That's correct, it's
- 23:31Speaker 2: called you.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Know the squirrels.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Secordy knew it all along, all right?
- 23:36Speaker 1: Quit doing that?
- 23:38Speaker 5: Hey it.
- 23:39Speaker 2: The word revenant means quote one that returns after death
- 23:44Speaker 2: or a long absence. Merriam Webster says it was one
- 23:47Speaker 2: of their most searched words in twenty sixteen, which is
- 23:50Speaker 2: a year after the movie was released, The film was
- 23:53Speaker 2: nominated for twelve Academy Awards and won the Oscar for
- 23:56Speaker 2: Best Actor, Best Directing, and Best Cinematography.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Thanks for writing something Down.
- 24:02Speaker 1: That's Leo's only Oscar, only.
- 24:04Speaker 6: One, only, only ever, only for like you, It's his
- 24:09Speaker 6: only win.
- 24:10Speaker 1: That was a winning question in the last round of
- 24:12Speaker 1: trivia at Molly Brown's a couple.
- 24:15Speaker 5: Weeks was that the movie they only used natural lighting?
- 24:18Speaker 5: Is that just the real thing?
- 24:19Speaker 2: They did a lot of natural lighting, like you watch
- 24:21Speaker 2: and you can really appreciate that. H Yeah, they're not
- 24:24Speaker 2: not a bunch of fakers.
- 24:25Speaker 5: And that horse scene was real, right, like he actually
- 24:28Speaker 5: slept with me, eats like the heart drives a horse
- 24:32Speaker 5: off a cliff and then guts it and sleeps in it.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I think the real, the realist part of that was
- 24:37Speaker 2: he was biting into an organ, Like for the first time,
- 24:40Speaker 2: what was the organ he ate a heart? Is it
- 24:42Speaker 2: a liver?
- 24:43Speaker 6: I think liver sounds right, but I don't remember.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I don't recall. Yeah, biting into a liver would make
- 24:47Speaker 1: you make a weird face.
- 24:48Speaker 3: I thought I heard the fact that he like entered
- 24:50Speaker 3: it cavity of an animal.
- 24:52Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure that was a good thing. Corey talked
- 24:55Speaker 2: to you guys into writing down the Revenant. Question seven,
- 24:59Speaker 2: the topic is concer. This river provides drinking water for
- 25:04Speaker 2: one in ten Americans, including those in Phoenix and San Diego. Again,
- 25:12Speaker 2: we're on question seven. The topic is conservation Randall, as
- 25:15Speaker 2: you answered locked in, Yes, this river provides drinking water
- 25:20Speaker 2: for one in ten Americans, including those in Phoenix and
- 25:24Speaker 2: San Diego. And Jabbroni's what are you thinking it's gotta be?
- 25:28Speaker 5: I'm thinking Colorado because cal was just talking about how
- 25:33Speaker 5: it future. A lot of people drink it, and if
- 25:35Speaker 5: we build a bunch of stupid stuff. I concur But
- 25:39Speaker 5: san Diego's real far from there from Colorado?
- 25:44Speaker 1: Yep? But is it far from the Colorado Root?
- 25:46Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Is it? I don't know.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Not that dude, I would get twenty percent more questions,
- 25:51Speaker 5: right if I just studied our hydrology, hydrography, hydrology.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like Bozeman getting water from Canyon Feria.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Hmmmm mm, VALI works.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I think it's Highlight Reservoir.
- 26:02Speaker 4: People are talking about kiyo Oh.
- 26:04Speaker 1: They're talking about building a pipeline down because we're gonna
- 26:06Speaker 1: have too many people in this Valley again.
- 26:10Speaker 2: This river provides drinking water for one in ten Americans,
- 26:13Speaker 2: including those in Phoenix and San Diego. Nate thinks he's
- 26:17Speaker 2: heard this on cal of the Wild.
- 26:20Speaker 3: That's my guess too.
- 26:21Speaker 2: It's very is that your answer? Jabroni's all right, reveal
- 26:24Speaker 2: your answers to JIBBRONI say Colorado River. Randall has the
- 26:27Speaker 2: same answer. They got it, the correct answer, just the
- 26:30Speaker 2: Colorado River. The Colorado River is also responsible for watering
- 26:35Speaker 2: ninety percent of America's winter vegetables. American rivers dot org
- 26:39Speaker 2: says this high demand has the Colorado at its breaking point,
- 26:43Speaker 2: which poses a threat not only for the environment, but
- 26:45Speaker 2: also the nation's economy. Question eight, the topic is hunting.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Travis Turner from Bone Collector is better known by this nickname.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Oh easy, okay, because you are TV.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Randall does not have an answer, and Nate knows it.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Travis Turner from Bone Collector is better known this nickname.
- 27:13Speaker 3: That's a good answer.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Flustered man. Not because tables have been turned.
- 27:19Speaker 1: This isn't something I would know, nor is this something
- 27:22Speaker 1: that I would particularly.
- 27:23Speaker 5: I don't know why I know this. I like, oh,
- 27:25Speaker 5: you know, I do know why I know this okay,
- 27:26Speaker 5: that's waits are aesthetic.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Randall, do you have your answer? I do. Bronis, do
- 27:36Speaker 2: you have your answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 27:40Speaker 2: We have the jibe. Bronis is saying T bone and
- 27:43Speaker 2: Randall said, very opposite answer. The correct answer is T Bone.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Travis T. Bone Turner. T Bone was an archery whiz
- 27:59Speaker 2: long before he joined Bone Collector. He won the Georgia
- 28:02Speaker 2: State Archery Championship in nineteen ninety and the Archery Shooters
- 28:07Speaker 2: Association World Championship in nineteen ninety one. Then in nineteen
- 28:11Speaker 2: ninety four he opened his bow shop, Archery Unlimited. It
- 28:14Speaker 2: wasn't until later when he got the nickname T Bone
- 28:16Speaker 2: while shooting a comedic hunting show with Jeff Foxworthy, Nate,
- 28:21Speaker 2: why do you know Travis T. Bone Turner? You just
- 28:24Speaker 2: watch a lot of bone collections.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Oh, I don't watch any bone collector. I know they're
- 28:28Speaker 5: in Georgia and that's about it. And I know there's
- 28:30Speaker 5: a big dude named T Bone on it. But that's
- 28:33Speaker 5: because a guy when I was doing an army school,
- 28:36Speaker 5: a guy in my squad. It's like best friends with
- 28:38Speaker 5: the bone collectors.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Who's the main guy, Michael Waddell.
- 28:42Speaker 5: His son. He was like best friends with this dude
- 28:44Speaker 5: in my squad and all you talk about when we
- 28:46Speaker 5: were hanging out his bone collector. How many big bucks
- 28:49Speaker 5: He's going.
- 28:50Speaker 2: To send him a thank you after that?
- 28:51Speaker 5: I might do. I gotta think of his name.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Travis T. Bone Turner and yeah, Randall, he would be
- 28:57Speaker 2: the opposite of Skeletor. All right.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I don't know why. I just was thinking of Skeletor.
- 29:02Speaker 2: We have two questions left.
- 29:05Speaker 3: The bones there their money, show us the leaderboards.
- 29:09Speaker 6: That was the ninth The Skeletons came to life with
- 29:11Speaker 6: two questions left. It is all tied up. Randall has
- 29:14Speaker 6: six points, as do the jabbronis right.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Question nine. The topic is foraging. This is our listener
- 29:22Speaker 2: question of the Week, which was won by Nathan Dotson
- 29:25Speaker 2: for sending this great question. Nathan is going to get
- 29:27Speaker 2: a board game signed by the crew. If you want
- 29:29Speaker 2: a chance to win the Listener Question of the Week,
- 29:31Speaker 2: then send your question to Trivia at the meat Eater
- 29:34Speaker 2: dot com. This foraged item was at the center of
- 29:38Speaker 2: US Fish and Wildlife investigations called Quote the Root of
- 29:42Speaker 2: All Evil and Operation Root Cause.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 29:47Speaker 2: These were two different investigations. This foraged item was at
- 29:51Speaker 2: the center of US Fish and Wildlife investigations called the
- 29:54Speaker 2: Root of All Evil and Operation Root Cause. All four
- 30:02Speaker 2: players are stumped. This forage item was at the center
- 30:10Speaker 2: of US Fish and wildlife investigations called the Root of
- 30:14Speaker 2: All Evil and Operation Root Cause. Randall, is your answer
- 30:18Speaker 2: locked in?
- 30:19Speaker 6: All right?
- 30:19Speaker 2: Jabroni's tell us what you think it could be.
- 30:22Speaker 3: It's on the tip of my tongue. Isn't there like
- 30:24Speaker 3: a root in like Virginia, West Virginia that people are
- 30:27Speaker 3: illegally foraging and selling in the black market?
- 30:35Speaker 1: Well, that would be in the question basically, Yeah, and
- 30:39Speaker 1: I wonder if that's what it is. Yeah, the root
- 30:41Speaker 1: that is being investigated. Yeah, yeah, by law enforcement.
- 30:46Speaker 3: It's a big deal.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Of this category continue.
- 30:53Speaker 2: At the center of US fission wildlife investigations called the
- 30:56Speaker 2: Root of All Evil and Operation Root Cause. Randall will
- 31:01Speaker 2: give me a percent confidence you have this right?
- 31:05Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Maybe seventy seventy five, seventy five. I just it's not
- 31:09Speaker 2: going to come here.
- 31:11Speaker 1: I can picture a National Geographic article that I read
- 31:14Speaker 1: about this, But most of all, all I can think
- 31:18Speaker 1: about is how I thought I was going to lose
- 31:20Speaker 1: this game on Bone Collector and mushrooms, and it was
- 31:24Speaker 1: making me so mad, and so now I'm really enjoying
- 31:27Speaker 1: seeing these guys squirm again.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Oh man, still only a seventy five percent chance that
- 31:32Speaker 2: he has a right, And this is question nine.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Well, I'm probably more confident than that, but if I
- 31:36Speaker 1: don't have it right, I don't want to appear over confident.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Either way, whatever the result, we're going into. Question ten
- 31:43Speaker 2: was a potential tiebreaker.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Let's just figure out some roots.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Well, yeah, fruit.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Beer, my favorite roots, ginger root.
- 31:52Speaker 1: We sit here in the list roots.
- 31:54Speaker 5: Maybe when does this go on real TV? My grandma's asked.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Wind about a month from now? Oh cool, heaven.
- 32:01Speaker 3: I feel like it starts with an S.
- 32:03Speaker 2: It goes on YouTube though, a week from now, so
- 32:06Speaker 2: YouTube first.
- 32:07Speaker 5: My grandma's not real hot on YouTube?
- 32:10Speaker 1: Root?
- 32:11Speaker 5: Probably that goes into root beer, does it?
- 32:14Speaker 3: Know?
- 32:14Speaker 5: I think so? Doesn't that make sasparilla?
- 32:17Speaker 4: I think you're right, and I mean.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Roots roots of all evil root beer?
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got to be illegal, Samson.
- 32:29Speaker 2: This forage item was at the center of US Fish
- 32:31Speaker 2: and Wildlife investigations called the Root of All Evil and operation.
- 32:35Speaker 5: Maybe because maybe it's the cartels. It's a weed screen,
- 32:44Speaker 5: it's foraged Yeah, I'm saying marijuana West Virginia.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Mm hmmmm. No, that's molasses.
- 32:56Speaker 3: All right, I don't think, but it's better than nothing.
- 33:01Speaker 5: IoT.
- 33:03Speaker 3: That's an ingredient, an herb.
- 33:05Speaker 2: That's Captain. Captain Rome's writing down his answer.
- 33:10Speaker 1: If it's not sassafras, he shouldn't write it down. I
- 33:13Speaker 1: don't know, but I just wouldn't write down something that
- 33:15Speaker 1: I knew would.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal answers. We have the Jabbroni saying
- 33:19Speaker 2: sassafras and Randalls saying ginsing. Randall got it. The correct
- 33:25Speaker 2: answer is Jensen sangers.
- 33:27Speaker 5: What's that all about?
- 33:30Speaker 1: I think he'll tell us.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Those investigations resulted in over one hundred arrest between Ohio
- 33:36Speaker 2: and Pennsylvania between twenty twelve and twenty twenty. The roots
- 33:40Speaker 2: of the native plant are so in demand because of
- 33:43Speaker 2: their use in Eastern medicine. Prices vary, but are typically
- 33:46Speaker 2: hundreds of dollars per pound. The lead investigator from the
- 33:49Speaker 2: Root of All Evil estimated that ninety percent of America's
- 33:53Speaker 2: foraged and sold ginsing winds up in Hong Kong.
- 33:57Speaker 5: I didn't know that was grown here.
- 33:59Speaker 2: It's grown here, native to the place. And he was
- 34:01Speaker 2: very close, he said, Ginger, Yeah, I thought I thought
- 34:04Speaker 2: that was going to lead you into And he.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Was in the right part of the country too. Figured
- 34:10Speaker 1: Daniel Boone was a big sanger when he needs some
- 34:13Speaker 1: extra cash.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Now here's a correct answer. Review so far? One was
- 34:16Speaker 2: Kansas two Fledgling three, Justin Herbert four, Junior Ranger Program five,
- 34:24Speaker 2: Henry repeating Arms six, the Revenant seven, Colorado River eight,
- 34:30Speaker 2: t Bone nine ginsing Bill. Let's get a scoreboard update
- 34:35Speaker 2: before question ten.
- 34:37Speaker 6: All right, here we go with Randall at seven and
- 34:40Speaker 6: the Jabroni's at six. Were either going into a tiebreaker
- 34:42Speaker 6: or Randall is winning this outright after.
- 34:44Speaker 3: This request no more mountain man type question.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Here's question ten. The topic is fishing.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Hey, who could have guessed every time?
- 34:54Speaker 2: This herring, which is native to the East Coast, is
- 34:58Speaker 2: named after a medieval female well tavern keeper coast question
- 35:03Speaker 2: Randall has a blank whiteboard. This herring, which is native
- 35:07Speaker 2: to the East Coast, is named after a medieval female tavern.
- 35:12Speaker 5: Keeper, not Joan of arc.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Hmmm, all four players look stumped.
- 35:22Speaker 4: A tie between history and fishing.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Rand Or, excuse me, Nay, you've done some East Coast
- 35:26Speaker 2: living right, but no East Coast fishing.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Mmmm.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Then you weren't really living, were you.
- 35:32Speaker 5: Nope, I was sucking it up.
- 35:34Speaker 2: This herring, which is native to the East Coast, is
- 35:37Speaker 2: named after a medieval female tavern keeper. Randall just had
- 35:42Speaker 2: a light bulb go off above.
- 35:43Speaker 5: His head and we need one that not I need that, Peter.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Randall, do you have this right now?
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yes?
- 35:53Speaker 2: Okay, Sorry, Just to make you feel better, though, maybe
- 35:58Speaker 2: you could talk it out and get this one right.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Sometimes that works.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Instead, you could either lose by two or one today.
