- 0:07I'm Kelly Siegel, and this is Harder Than Life, a podcast about self-love, self-awareness, business, and health. We tell outrageous stories and boil everything down to simple, practical advice you can start using today. Let's get living. Hey, HDL Nation, Kelly Siegel here. Today's episode, it's going to ruffle some feathers, but around here we speak the truth and with love. And I love you enough to keep it real.
- 0:35We're diving into a hot button topic. GLP-1 drugs, AKA Ozempic, Wegovi, Manjaro, the so-called miracle injections flying off pharmacy shelves. This isn't about shame. This is about responsibility, discipline, choosing what's harder than life instead of what's easier than effort. We're covering two truths.
- 1:05People who generally need these drugs, diabetics, the medically at risk, you are seeing. The second kind of people is people chasing shortcuts, trying to avoid the real work it takes to get fit and stay that way. And yes, we're going to talk about the steroid accusations I've faced for decades. Let's go. I know what you're thinking.
- 1:29Kelly, what does this have to do with being harder than life? Well, this is the elevator's success. I see very, very many people out here where it's obvious that they don't have type 2 diabetes. There are some people close to me.
- 1:46And I actually have some other people that are close to me that do have type two diabetes and it has been an absolute miracle drug. But it's about the mindset that we're gonna talk about. The need to take the shortcut. So let's start with some facts. GLP-1s are incredible medical breakthroughs. They save lives.
- 2:07They're essential for type 2 diabetes. They reduce amputations, balance blood sugar, and extend a quality of life.
- 2:17Yes, it also cuts weight. If you are morbidly obese and there's a high probability that you could die from that, you need to take this. That's what it's for. If that's you, this isn't a call out. It's a call of support and I embrace you and love you. You are not avoiding the work. You're fighting for your life and I see you.
- 2:43but that's not what this podcast is about or who it's for. Here's where it's about to get uncomfortable. There's a new trend, otherwise healthy people using GLP ones, not to save their lives, but to avoid saving themselves. Avoid doing the hard work. Let me ask you, Harder Life Nation, what are you really trying to lose?
- 3:08Because it's not just weight, it's shame. It's broken confidence. It's old stories about who you think you are, who people have said that you are, and it's all BS. It is thoughts are magical lies. Instead of doing that, you're trying to inject your way around it. If you're using these GLP ones without changing your habits, your mindset, and your relationship with yourself,
- 3:38You're not healing. You're hiding. You're masking. And it's going to be temporary. Sure, you may look good. You may look in the mirror and be proud. And it'll give you increased confidence. All I'm asking you to do is add a little bit more effort into this. So let me flip the script for a second.
- 4:00I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't sit here and talk about injections. People have said, oh, you wouldn't look the way you do if you didn't take steroids. Here's the truth. Yes, I do take testosterone. I have for 12 years. My testosterone was under 200. I see a doctor and I get a cream and I rub the cream on my privates, a little bit too much information, sorry that just came right out, twice a day to get me to normal levels.
- 4:29I've been injected with 30 years of workouts, 10,000 reps of discipline, decades of early mornings, clean meals, and silence before social media made it trendy. I don't make excuses. I absolutely do not negotiate with myself. There are many days I don't feel like going to the gym. In fact, right now, I am in the middle of doing 500 workouts. Why am I doing it? Because I challenged myself.
- 4:55I extend myself. I raise my standards. Decades of working in one direction. Right now, I'm on, what is this, six and a half years of radical discipline and radically working on myself.
- 5:09I've been accused of being on steroids since I was 20 years old. Why? Because I'm 49 and I look like I'm 29. Because I've been consistent and since before hashtags were invented. And let me be clear, no steroids, no growth hormones, no cycles, just reps, just discipline, and time in the trenches. You want results? Do my reps.
- 5:33I didn't download this body. I earned it. Frankly, the reason why I even acknowledge most of you naysayers is because I believe I can convert the overwhelming majority of you. Because when you're pointing one finger at me, three are pointing right back at you.
- 5:50And you want help. It's your ego trying to keep you small and say, hey, he's not doing, he's cheating. We all do it. Heck, I do it. I do it with my mentor, Ed Milet. Heck, if I had his money, I could be number one too. That is, and then I catch myself and I correct myself. So you people, and there's a bunch of you that I was responding to this morning on my social media. That is a cry for help. And half of you,
- 6:15I invite you over. There are some of you I will never convert. You just want to wallow in your negativity and you want to be the victim. I can't help you. I can't help you. If you want the shortcut and this is triggering you and you're saying, screw you, unfollow me. Delete the app. Don't listen to my podcast. But there are some of you that go, man.
- 6:36He's right. I'm just lashing out to protect myself. And it's keeping you small. Keep listening. Now we're going to switch back to the Ozempic, the GLP-1s, because it's really scaring me, guys. You can see that people are on it that aren't supposed to be because it eats away their muscle. This reminds me of Fen-Fen from back in the 80s where people were having heart attacks and dying.
- 6:59People are going to die from this. And I don't want that on my watch. So I want to try to create a mindset and create awareness on this. This is not good for you. My friends and I, we call it the Ozempic ass. You can see it. Guys, you can't see it who's taken it.
- 7:16But you no longer have a backside. And it makes it very apparent that you're taking Ozepa for the wrong reasons. So you're not avoiding food. You're avoiding the truth. You're avoiding calories. You're avoiding accountability. You're avoiding doing the work.
- 7:31GLP one might be shrinking your ways, but it isn't building your mindset. Is it developing your boundaries, your grit, your ability to keep promises to yourself? No. Discipline tastes better than any injection ever will. Doing the work builds resilience in you that transfers to so many other parts of your life, whether it be business, personal, or just the person looking in the mirror. You'll be proud of yourself.
- 8:00What's really hurting isn't the number on the scale, your weight. It's the weight of the lies. You've told yourself, I don't have time. I've tried everything. I'll start Monday. I can't lose weight. It runs in the family.
- 8:15Let me say it again. Monday is a myth. Now is real. Let's get started. Yesterday was the best day, but let's do it today. Fitness isn't about vanity. It's about leverage. Every time you move your body, you cast a vote.
- 8:33for your future self. You check another box that says, I can do this. I do tough things daily. You strengthen that muscle of consistency. You deepen the habit of keeping the promises, not only to yourself, but to your family. I will stay healthy. I will be here. I will lead this family. Most people throwing around accusations are the same ones who haven't honored a single commitment to themselves in months.
- 9:03Let me say that again. Most people that throw out these accusations aren't doing the work. It's their ego trying to keep them small, keep them safe. If they extended and they failed, oh, they would be judged. It's not judgment. It's just a scoreboard, people. Go and win, and you will be criticized. That is the downside. But wouldn't you want to be criticized for being in the arena and trying than not even doing anything?
- 9:29It's not judgment, it's a scoreboard. I just said that, but I wanted to say it again. Results don't lie. Every rep, every workout, every clean meal, it's a mental contract that you award yourself. Want a better mindset? Start with your body. I always start my coaching programs with the easy stuff. How can we get you physical mastery? And then we go into the mental fitness.
- 9:59What's a better mindset? Start with your body. Want to lose that real weight? Start with your habits. If you're using GLP-1 for medical reasons, do your thing. But don't stop there. Start building the foundation now. Walk daily.
- 10:14Drink a gallon of water. Eat more protein. Sleep without your phone. Practice stillness. Build momentum with micro wins. It could be a meditation here. It could be basic weight training there. Anything that's over and above just taking that shot. Because I got a news flash for you, and I'm sure your doctors have told you this.
- 10:37It eats away muscle too. So you need to offset it with eating well, eating lots of protein, and doing some sort of weight training. Some of you are thinking, I'm crazy, but I'm not. This goes for everything in your life.
- 10:55You raise the standard on what's expected. I just did the unrequired workout with Ben Newman. And we talked diligently about doing things over and above bare bones minimum. It's so easy to take shot. It'd be so easy for me to take steroids. I would be much bigger.
- 11:15But doing the work day in and day out and making it harder and harder and harder like a crazy man doing 500 workouts in a year, what was I thinking? But the moment it comes out of my mouth, I have to honor it. Some might say that's a sickness. I call it winning. So guys, ask yourself, what am I outsourcing that I should be owning? What is the medication doing for me that I should be doing for myself?
- 11:44You don't need a needle. You need a mirror and a mindset and a little bit of a work ethic and me behind you pushing because I'm right there with you. I love you all and I want you to win. You can fix anything but death and some of these poor habits could put you there quickly. And yes, you can do this. You were built to do this. We're all here for a reason and I want you to win.
- 12:14But it's going to take a different mindset, different habits, a lot of love, community, people there that love you and support you and lift you up and build you up. And man, again, it's just a mindset that I want you to talk about. So here's the truth. You can't shortcut self-respect. You can't shortcut the work. You can't outsource self-love.
- 12:43You can't inject grit. You have to build it day in and day out by doing the work, keeping the promises that you make to yourself and say them out loud. Your friends will hold you accountable. And if you don't, they will make fun of you. That's part of stretching yourself. If you're feeling uncomfortable right now, good.
- 13:06That means you're ready. Some of you probably turned this off already. We're 15 minutes into it. People are like, he's crazy. He's lost his mind. I can't convert you guys. But those of you that made it this far, I don't want you smaller. I want you stronger. I want you more confident, more disciplined, more proud, and more.
- 13:30and loud and giving back to the world. Forget the deluded version of yourself hiding behind hacks. I want the bold, resilient version that says, I didn't take the shortcut, I did the work. I am the solution and here is the results.
