- 0:14Speaker 1: and welcome into the first read. That is right, we
- 0:17Speaker 1: are finally here. It is NFL Sunday and boy do
- 0:19Speaker 1: we have some games to react to. I want to
- 0:23Speaker 1: just take a little bit of a second and tell
- 0:25Speaker 1: you a little bit about the first read. The first
- 0:27Speaker 1: read is Bussin' with the Boys recap show from NFL Sunday.
- 0:32Speaker 1: We are going to dive deep. Into games that matter.
- 0:35Speaker 1: That's always going to be a block. We're not going
- 0:36Speaker 1: to do every single game. This isn't the place for you.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We're going to do the most important games. With the
- 0:42Speaker 1: most important storylines. That matter the most. Then most weeks.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're going to do a segment called the quarterback room.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Probably every week. What we're going to do. We might
- 0:51Speaker 1: do stock up. We might do stock down. We might
- 0:53Speaker 1: do buying. We might do selling. Everything in between quarterback playing.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We're just going to break down. And I'm going to
- 0:59Speaker 1: break down. What I have seen. on tape from these guys.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And then finally, we're going to finish or so in
- 1:06Speaker 1: the C block, the last block, and we're just going
- 1:07Speaker 1: to hit biggest storylines. So it's just going to be
- 1:10Speaker 1: the overarching theme of the NFL. We're going to nerd out.
- 1:13Speaker 1: We're going to have fun. We are going to break
- 1:17Speaker 1: down football. That is what matters. College football has been
- 1:20Speaker 1: going on. Now it is the NFL time. So as always,
- 1:24Speaker 1: we're presented by America's number one sportsbook, FanDuel. Before we
- 1:29Speaker 1: look back at the day, let's look ahead to Monday. Broncos, Chiefs.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And with the reward escalator, what happens on the field
- 1:36Speaker 1: can unlock even more profit boost on FanDuel. Here's how
- 1:40Speaker 1: it works. Bet Monday night's game with your 30% profit boost.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Then keep an eye on what happens on the field.
- 1:48Speaker 1: If both teams score a touchdown, you'll get a 25%
- 1:51Speaker 1: profit boost. If any player... goes for 100 or more
- 1:56Speaker 1: receiving yards, you get a 50% profit boost. Pretty cool.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And if the Broncos Chiefs turn into a shootout with
- 2:02Speaker 1: seven or more total touchdowns, we'll see, you'll get a 100%
- 2:08Speaker 1: profit boost. Head to the app and make this your
- 2:11Speaker 1: most rewarding season ever with FanDuel. All right, boys and girls,
- 2:16Speaker 1: let's get into it. A block, the games that mattered most.
- 2:21Speaker 1: We are going to start with the best game of
- 2:24Speaker 1: the entire weekend so far, and that is the Bills
- 2:29Speaker 1: versus the Texans. Fireworks everywhere in the first half. 35
- 2:37Speaker 1: combined points in the second quarter, mind you. I thought
- 2:39Speaker 1: for sure this would be a defensive battle, everything in between.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Slowed down a little bit in the second half. I
- 2:46Speaker 1: think at one point, Josh Allen was on pace for
- 2:49Speaker 1: like 440 total yards at the The Bills were on
- 2:52Speaker 1: pace to do all sorts of records against this vaunted
- 2:55Speaker 1: Texans defense. I do believe both quarterbacks showed out. Josh
- 2:58Speaker 1: Allen was definitely doing some Josh Allen things. 20 for 29,
- 3:02Speaker 1: 334 yards, had four total touchdowns. Like, the dude had
- 3:06Speaker 1: four total touchdowns, and we talk about this defense of
- 3:11Speaker 1: the Houston Texans. I was extremely surprised. Let's get into
- 3:17Speaker 1: what we're going to call the three things on each game.
- 3:19Speaker 1: My first thing right here. Josh Allen, he looked like
- 3:24Speaker 1: the best player in football on the road, arguably against
- 3:31Speaker 1: the best defense in football. He is doing things that
- 3:35Speaker 1: are best player in the NFL type things. I love
- 3:40Speaker 1: offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael. We know what Joe Brady is.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Pete Carmichael, he came over from the Saints, and then
- 3:47Speaker 1: he's got a Saints pass. He came from the Broncos
- 3:49Speaker 1: with Sean Payton. I was with them for three or
- 3:51Speaker 1: four years, and I love this addition to Joe Brady's
- 3:54Speaker 1: staff because what you saw from the gate is they
- 3:57Speaker 1: are going to ride their run game without a doubt.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I mean, it's not only Josh Allen running the football,
- 4:04Speaker 1: but it is that whole team. James Cook looked excellent. Obviously,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I can't remember the last time the Bills had two
- 4:15Speaker 1: receivers over 100 yards. Dalton Kincaid led the way. And D.J. Moore,
- 4:20Speaker 1: which we'll get into that here in a little bit.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But I love the fact that Josh Allen was able
- 4:28Speaker 1: to use his legs. Like, he used his legs left
- 4:31Speaker 1: and right against that Texan team. And this is a
- 4:33Speaker 1: Texas defense that sort of forgot how to tackle. I mean,
- 4:38Speaker 1: it was nonstop over and over. And I think the
- 4:43Speaker 1: big thing for that offense that was missing was D.J.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Moore.
- 4:48Speaker 1: DJ Moore's prowess at receiver, not only did it allow
- 4:52Speaker 1: Dalton Kincaid to get open, but when Josh Allen needed
- 4:55Speaker 1: a shot down the field, man, he took the shot.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It was simple as that. I would argue that Josh
- 4:59Speaker 1: Allen probably didn't have that last year, and this is
- 5:03Speaker 1: the year that he finally does have that. So that
- 5:06Speaker 1: fingerprints of that Pete Carmichael offense, putting him under center,
- 5:09Speaker 1: having DJ Moore, he changes that entire offense. And let's
- 5:16Speaker 1: get into point two. So let's talk about C.J. Stroud.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So C.J. Stroud, to me, we're obviously breaking down both quarterbacks. C.J. Stroud,
- 5:24Speaker 1: to me, a lot left on the plate last year.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I think everyone remembered his game against the New England
- 5:34Speaker 1: Patriots and the divisional round game. I was actually able
- 5:37Speaker 1: to call that game for ESPN on NFL Playbook, which
- 5:41Speaker 1: is an alt cast up there. And I think he
- 5:43Speaker 1: had four turnovers that game. And so when you have
- 5:46Speaker 1: a game like that, you have to live with that
- 5:50Speaker 1: the entire offseason. And when you live with that the
- 5:52Speaker 1: entire offseason, there's a lot of stuff that goes through
- 5:55Speaker 1: your head. Hey, can I still do it? Hey, we
- 5:58Speaker 1: don't have an extension yet. Hey, all these different things
- 6:00Speaker 1: that matter. And he was able to stay calm in
- 6:04Speaker 1: the pocket. He was able to make the right decisions.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Obviously got sacked at the end of the game. I
- 6:08Speaker 1: understand that. 26 to 38, 274 yards, two touchdowns, calm, decisive.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And the thing that I like the most, I think
- 6:17Speaker 1: this Bill's defense has some improvement to do. I don't
- 6:19Speaker 1: think they're all world by any stretch of imagination, but
- 6:21Speaker 1: the moment never looked too big with them. Like he
- 6:24Speaker 1: went stride for stride with the best player in football.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And for them to be able to score 31 points
- 6:33Speaker 1: was super impressive. Obviously the late sack hurts. I felt
- 6:38Speaker 1: like this was a major, major step forward from what
- 6:41Speaker 1: we saw last season. And I think the one thing
- 6:44Speaker 1: that separates this Houston Texans offense this year rather than
- 6:49Speaker 1: last year, it is David Montgomery. tough yards, three total touchdowns.
- 6:59Speaker 1: So when you have a guy that you can just
- 7:01Speaker 1: hand the football off to and go left and right,
- 7:04Speaker 1: whatever you want to do, can catch it out of
- 7:05Speaker 1: the backfield, which he obviously did for a touchdown, that
- 7:09Speaker 1: run game is able to take that pressure off of C.J. Stroud.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So super important. And then one of my bigger takeaways,
- 7:16Speaker 1: other than Josh Allen and C.J. Stroud, is what happened
- 7:19Speaker 1: to Houston's defense. This was supposed to be the strength
- 7:22Speaker 1: of their team. Buffalo hung 36 on them. Not enough
- 7:28Speaker 1: pressure whatsoever. Here's the thing about Houston's defense. The one
- 7:34Speaker 1: or two issues or things that they struggled with in
- 7:36Speaker 1: the past, it was, hey, where can we corral these
- 7:43Speaker 1: running quarterbacks? I think that's the hardest thing. That's where
- 7:46Speaker 1: they've struggled with. Josh Allen obviously using his legs, extending
- 7:49Speaker 1: the plays. The play to DJ Moore on the right
- 7:51Speaker 1: sideline was unbelievable. I think that was a big deal.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And then most importantly, like explosive plays. So corralling running quarterbacks,
- 8:01Speaker 1: explosive plays. That's what they struggled with last year. That's
- 8:04Speaker 1: what they've struggled with this year. So I just think
- 8:08Speaker 1: if Houston and this is sort of the the pick. right?
- 8:12Speaker 1: This AFC team of the Texans, oh, the defense is
- 8:15Speaker 1: as good as C.J. Stroud can play as well. I
- 8:17Speaker 1: know it's an L on the sheet. And I know that, hey,
- 8:21Speaker 1: you score 31 points, you feel good. There's no moral
- 8:23Speaker 1: victories in the NFL. That's ridiculous. But if Houston wants
- 8:25Speaker 1: to be a legitimate Super Bowl team, this is the
- 8:28Speaker 1: part of the game that I would be most concerned about.
- 8:32Speaker 1: All right, moving on. Bucks versus the Bengals. Head coach
- 8:35Speaker 1: Zach Taylor under quite a lot of pressure. And there's
- 8:41Speaker 1: a lot of different reasonings why he was under a
- 8:43Speaker 1: lot of pressure. The main reason being they haven't made
- 8:46Speaker 1: a playoffs in three years. They have not made the
- 8:48Speaker 1: playoff with one of the top five quarterbacks in all
- 8:51Speaker 1: of football in Joe Burrell. And yes, he's been hurt. Yes,
- 8:54Speaker 1: I understand that. If the schedule... continues to play out
- 8:57Speaker 1: like it is. I mean, this schedule is cake. I
- 8:59Speaker 1: think it's the third easiest schedule in all the NFL.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And when you get to a schedule like that, you
- 9:07Speaker 1: have to be all in. We know what T. Higgins
- 9:10Speaker 1: can do. We know what Jamar Chase can do. We
- 9:12Speaker 1: know what Joe Burrow can do. We know what all
- 9:14Speaker 1: these guys can do. What was the issue last year?
- 9:17Speaker 1: It was the defense. The defense was the major issue.
- 9:21Speaker 1: They gave up a ton of points. Joe Burrow's health
- 9:24Speaker 1: is Here's the thing that I love the best. Like,
- 9:30Speaker 1: the Bengals defense, they got three fumbles to start the game.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Four total takeaways. The Bengals have a defense. Like, are
- 9:39Speaker 1: you kidding me? Four takeaways and four sacks. Like I said,
- 9:45Speaker 1: Tampa's three early fumbles all turned into Cincinnati's points. That's
- 9:48Speaker 1: where they struggled last year. They struggled getting takeaways, and
- 9:50Speaker 1: they struggled taking the football away and then scoring points
- 9:54Speaker 1: off of turnovers. Massive, massive deal there in Cincy. And
- 9:59Speaker 1: we've always... spent years, or at least I have, and
- 10:01Speaker 1: you're going to see I'm a very analytical football nerd, boys.
- 10:06Speaker 1: When in the world was Cincinnati's defense could compliment Joe Burrow?
- 10:10Speaker 1: They went and they addressed it in free agency. They
- 10:13Speaker 1: addressed it in the draft. Actually, Lawrence coming over. This
- 10:16Speaker 1: team looked different to me in a lot of different ways.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Cincy scored, the other thing while we're still on Cincy,
- 10:26Speaker 1: Cincy scored 33 points and there were lulls in the
- 10:29Speaker 1: game that was just, hey, it's all right, like whatever.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Where's Jamar Chase? Like, what are we doing? Like, I
- 10:37Speaker 1: don't think the Bucks defense did anything in particular watching
- 10:40Speaker 1: this game for the first time that did anything to
- 10:42Speaker 1: take Jamar Chase away. It just wasn't, they just weren't
- 10:46Speaker 1: finding him. Like it was, it was crazy. Like it's, um,
- 10:51Speaker 1: Mike Gusecki, obviously T Higgins led the team in rushing.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Chase Brown led the team in, or sorry, in receiving
- 10:57Speaker 1: and Chase Brown led the team in rushing. But where
- 11:00Speaker 1: is Jamar Chase? Burrell played well enough. Here's my thing.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You got to score points in the red zone. So
- 11:06Speaker 1: the Bucs did defense at a nice job in the
- 11:09Speaker 1: red zone since he was only two of five in
- 11:11Speaker 1: the red zone. Definitely not good enough. Um, I think
- 11:14Speaker 1: We all know Jamar Chase is probably the best receiver
- 11:17Speaker 1: in football outside of Jay Jettis. And for it to
- 11:21Speaker 1: reach its ceiling, he has to be a major part.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Let's get to the Bucs side of things. I thought
- 11:30Speaker 1: they were going to be really good, really fast. Baker
- 11:34Speaker 1: got that massive extension, $ 55 million, I think, per year.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But Baker, like 23 of 28, 216 yards. If you're
- 11:43Speaker 1: stat watching, it looks good. Watch the game. He played bad.
- 11:46Speaker 1: The turnovers, mistakes completely changed the game. At some point,
- 11:49Speaker 1: Baker has to understand when the play is over. He's
- 11:51Speaker 1: out there running. He's fumbling. They had a massive red
- 11:54Speaker 1: zone fumble. And you can't continually put your team in
- 11:57Speaker 1: bad situations trying to make something out of nothing. I
- 12:00Speaker 1: do think that they have a really strong offense. I
- 12:03Speaker 1: like what they have done. Zach Robinson comes over with
- 12:10Speaker 1: another Sean McVay disciple. A lot of shifts, a lot
- 12:14Speaker 1: of motions, a lot of under center. Bucky Irving, excellent.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I would say they have one of the most underrated
- 12:19Speaker 1: skill rooms in all of football. I think they're going
- 12:21Speaker 1: to be fine. Chris Godwin Jr., Emeka Ibuka. There's some
- 12:25Speaker 1: speedsters out there. They're going to be fine. but I
- 12:29Speaker 1: also got to give a huge shout out to Jeremiah
- 12:33Speaker 1: Trotter Jr. Went to the University of Missouri pick six.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He's like one of the only players in NFL history
- 12:38Speaker 1: in his first debut or start, I'm going to get
- 12:40Speaker 1: this wrong, I know, to have a pick six and
- 12:43Speaker 1: a sack in his NFL debut. So love that. Thought
- 12:47Speaker 1: that was a sneaky good game. Honestly, it was back
- 12:49Speaker 1: and forth. All right, let's go to Saints versus Lions.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Saints versus Lions. Probably, other than maybe the late window,
- 12:56Speaker 1: the best game of the day. Probably a lot of
- 13:00Speaker 1: people didn't realize it. Lions stormed out to a lead.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Thought this would be Dan Campbell's and Jared Goff's year.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Amal Rossi-Brown went crazy. Sam Laporta is back. Jameer Gibbs.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I mean, like, if you play fantasy, which I don't,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I probably need to get on it. My bad. I'll
- 13:16Speaker 1: take the L on that. They have a fantasy's team dream. Like,
- 13:21Speaker 1: it's just unbelievable. And they started really fast, and they
- 13:26Speaker 1: just barely held on, and they're at home. I wanted
- 13:29Speaker 1: to break down this game because I really liked it
- 13:32Speaker 1: from the point of view of the Saints. The Saints
- 13:36Speaker 1: are probably the least talked-about team. Look, the NFC South
- 13:40Speaker 1: all took Ls this weekend. All took Ls. They're all 0-1.
- 13:43Speaker 1: The NFC South winner might win nine games. I really
- 13:47Speaker 1: like what the Saints have been able to do. And
- 13:49Speaker 1: we'll get into the Carolina Panthers, which was good against...
- 13:53Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears. But what the Saints were able to
- 13:57Speaker 1: do in the first half was poor. It was piss poor,
- 14:02Speaker 1: to be honest with you. Tyler Shuck was rattled and
- 14:05Speaker 1: then settled in really nicely, though. He ends up going
- 14:08Speaker 1: over 411 yards, was sacked five times. Offensive line there,
- 14:13Speaker 1: a little bit of an issue. Chris Olave, Ville, was
- 14:17Speaker 1: excellent for them. Totally forgot Travis Etienne was there. Alvin
- 14:21Speaker 1: Kamara did not play When they get those guys back,
- 14:24Speaker 1: this is a sneaky good team. And the main thing
- 14:28Speaker 1: I wanted to realize about Tyler Shuck, he showed me
- 14:33Speaker 1: he's the guy. I would say the last eight to
- 14:37Speaker 1: ten games of his rookie year last year put some
- 14:41Speaker 1: really good film on tape. Forget the rough stretches early.
- 14:45Speaker 1: What he did, though, this game in the fourth quarter
- 14:48Speaker 1: in overtime mattered more than anything. You're on the road
- 14:51Speaker 1: in a hostile environment. You're playing from behind. Think about
- 14:55Speaker 1: that mindset growth from a quarterback's perspective. Responded really well
- 15:00Speaker 1: to pressure. That, to me, is franchise quarterback stuff, truly.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And honestly, there's a lot of talk about, hey, should
- 15:06Speaker 1: Kellen Moore have gone for two? Look, this game went
- 15:08Speaker 1: into overtime. I love the fact, like big cojones, Kellen Moore.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I hate the play call. I love the fact that
- 15:15Speaker 1: they went for it. They ran a little flat snag
- 15:19Speaker 1: corner combo. They take away the flat. They take away
- 15:21Speaker 1: the snag. He's having to throw the corner route up
- 15:24Speaker 1: over top, but it was good. I enjoyed that. It's
- 15:28Speaker 1: the first game of the year. If you can steal
- 15:30Speaker 1: one versus the Lions, didn't mind that at all. All right,
- 15:35Speaker 1: let's get into the two afternoon games. We're going to
- 15:39Speaker 1: start Packers-Vikings. I'm going to be honest, I turned this
- 15:42Speaker 1: game off at one point because the Packers were absolutely
- 15:46Speaker 1: boat racing the Vikings. I fully came on here expecting
- 15:51Speaker 1: to talk all about Jordan Love and talk all about
- 15:54Speaker 1: everything that I love about Jordan Love. And we still
- 15:57Speaker 1: will do that today. The first three quarters, Jordan Love
- 15:59Speaker 1: was amazing. When you play a team... like the Minnesota Vikings,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and you're playing against defensive coordinator Brian Flores. He puts
- 16:07Speaker 1: so much stress on you offensively because of what we
- 16:13Speaker 1: like to call these double-A mug looks or these eight-up
- 16:15Speaker 1: or these seven-up looks. It's pretty much where you have
- 16:17Speaker 1: four down linemen in the center. There's two gaps on
- 16:21Speaker 1: either side of the center. They're called the A-gap. And
- 16:24Speaker 1: when you can get in the A-gap by these backers,
- 16:26Speaker 1: it's called double-A mug, so there's six across. Well, they
- 16:29Speaker 1: put eight up a lot. It's either blitzing or bailing.
- 16:33Speaker 1: You have to really focus in on the game plan
- 16:36Speaker 1: at hand. And I would say the first three quarters,
- 16:39Speaker 1: for whatever reason, Jordan Love had Brian Flores' number. Jordan
- 16:43Speaker 1: Love versus the blitz, 11 of 19, 220 yards, two touchdowns,
- 16:49Speaker 1: no sacks. So he was outstanding. They had good answers
- 16:53Speaker 1: all game long. And then in the fourth quarter, Brian
- 16:57Speaker 1: Flores said, let me show you what I'm really about. Unbelievable.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Was able to blitz from so many different types of directions,
- 17:04Speaker 1: so many different types of ways, and completely stymied them.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I felt like the Packers forgot how to play offense
- 17:15Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. What else I love about the Packers, though?
- 17:19Speaker 1: Christian Watson. They lost a lot of their guys. Christian
- 17:22Speaker 1: Watson developing defensively. from a one-trick pony, which is just
- 17:26Speaker 1: down the field. He's only speed to a true number
- 17:29Speaker 1: one receiver. Matt LaFleur still dials them up. I mean,
- 17:34Speaker 1: they looked excellent, but it's unforgivable how bad they looked
- 17:37Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter on the road. And oh, by
- 17:39Speaker 1: the way, the Vikings didn't even have Kyler Murray. But
- 17:43Speaker 1: it's also good to see Matthew Golden step up. I
- 17:45Speaker 1: know there was a lot of people last year that
- 17:46Speaker 1: were like, oh, he's going to have 1,000 yards receiving
- 17:49Speaker 1: from a rookie from Texas, speedster. He's coming along really well,
- 17:52Speaker 1: had almost 70 yards. receiving. And then I think the
- 17:56Speaker 1: storyline of the day, or one of the storylines of
- 17:59Speaker 1: the day, is Kyler Murray, I think in the first 10,
- 18:02Speaker 1: 15 plays, gets knocked out. Concussion. Hope he's okay. Never
- 18:08Speaker 1: know how quarterbacks can come back from that. He's, I believe,
- 18:11Speaker 1: had some concussions in his career. I thought, and even
- 18:15Speaker 1: producer Grant, who's sitting over here, he thought that J.J.
- 18:19Speaker 1: McCarthy was going to come in. Not so fast. J.J.
- 18:21Speaker 1: McCarthy is got silently bumped down to the number three quarterback,
- 18:27Speaker 1: and I know Taylor LeJuan's probably crying about it right now,
- 18:29Speaker 1: but shout out Taylor. I mean, Michigan guy. I thought J.J.
- 18:32Speaker 1: was going to go in. Not so fast. Not so fast.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Let's get in 2017. Almost MVP Carson Wentz. Dude played unbelievable.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I don't even know the stats. I know he had
- 18:41Speaker 1: three touchdowns out there. Let's see. He was, yeah, 12-19,
- 18:45Speaker 1: 133 yards, three touchdowns, 123 ratings. Wasn't expecting that. Hand up.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Stephen A. Smith called him out. No one's ever going
- 18:55Speaker 1: to call on Carson Wentz. Remember that like a couple
- 18:57Speaker 1: days ago? Kyler Murray ended up three of five, 18 yards,
- 19:01Speaker 1: one pick. I don't think there's a quarterback competition there.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I think if Kyler's healthy, he's going to be the guy.
- 19:07Speaker 1: But what a way to steal a win versus a
- 19:11Speaker 1: division rival in the opening game. The NFC North is
- 19:15Speaker 1: going to be wild. Chicago Bears obviously won. As well,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I think the story of the Vikings not only is
- 19:23Speaker 1: that Carson Wentz played well and that's very difficult to
- 19:25Speaker 1: do as a backup. You don't get any reps during
- 19:28Speaker 1: the week, by the way. I just hope you guys
- 19:30Speaker 1: understand that and know that. If you're going through the week,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you do not get any reps whatsoever. You run the
- 19:37Speaker 1: scout team. So for him to be able to do
- 19:38Speaker 1: that just talks about how much of a veteran set
- 19:41Speaker 1: is this. But the best thing of the weekend, I
- 19:43Speaker 1: saw one of the best things of the weekend, Justin Jefferson.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Eight catches, 92 yards, two touchdowns, nine targets. He was
- 19:49Speaker 1: so under you. best best receiver in football along with
- 19:51Speaker 1: Jamar Chase he was so underutilized last year it was
- 19:54Speaker 1: it was unbelievable to me how underutilized he was but
- 19:59Speaker 1: to get him going with a backup quarterback really was
- 20:02Speaker 1: the third Carson was the third string coming in They
- 20:05Speaker 1: haven't had a lot of games together. To me, that
- 20:08Speaker 1: was awesome to see. I think they said in the broadcast,
- 20:11Speaker 1: and don't quote me, Buston family, but I'm pretty sure
- 20:14Speaker 1: they said in the broadcast that Justin Jefferson had not
- 20:18Speaker 1: had a home receiving touchdown. Producer Grant, can you check this?
- 20:21Speaker 1: Had not had a receiving touchdown since 2024. We'll make
- 20:24Speaker 1: sure that that's right. That's wild to me. That's how
- 20:33Speaker 1: bad the quarterback play last year was for the Minnesota Vikings.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Just a horrendous start for them to win with a
- 20:38Speaker 1: backup quarterback at home. This will give them momentum going in.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And then let's talk about it. That's right, Jeremy Klump.
- 20:44Speaker 1: December 16, 2024. Yeah, so going back. December what? 16,
- 20:51Speaker 1: 2024 against the Chicago Bears. Justin Jefferson hadn't had a
- 20:56Speaker 1: home touchdown since 2024. I was right. All right, let's
- 20:58Speaker 1: get to the next game, final game. of the A block.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Commanders versus Eagles, that's right. Jeremy Klump, bussing with the boys,
- 21:06Speaker 1: do it all, chief of staff, producer, biggest Jalen Hurts
- 21:09Speaker 1: fan you ever had. Oh, that was a close one,
- 21:13Speaker 1: Eagles fans. They ended up winning that football game. And
- 21:18Speaker 1: I think the story of that game, obviously, we're going
- 21:21Speaker 1: to talk about Jalen Hurts. I think the story of
- 21:22Speaker 1: that game, though, was Vic Fangio in that defense. That
- 21:25Speaker 1: defense is going to be so good. Jaden Daniels did
- 21:29Speaker 1: not look very good at all. Stymied by Vic Fangio's defense.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Here's the thing about Vic Fangio's defense. He presents so
- 21:38Speaker 1: many different issues because he plays this too high shell coverage.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And when you play this too high shell coverage, you
- 21:44Speaker 1: have to be okay taking a profit, which means taking
- 21:48Speaker 1: those easy completions. In the quarterback room, we'd always say, hey,
- 21:52Speaker 1: Don't go broke taking profit, which means, hey, let's just
- 21:55Speaker 1: fire these pig skins in there left and right, and
- 21:58Speaker 1: he wasn't doing that. David Blau looked overmatched. It was
- 22:01Speaker 1: David Blau who's the offensive coordinator for Jaden Daniels, and
- 22:03Speaker 1: I'm a big Jaden Daniels fan. I actually said he's
- 22:05Speaker 1: going to remind some people that 2024 wasn't a fluke,
- 22:09Speaker 1: was hurt last year, all this stuff. Didn't do well.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Numbers don't tell the story on this game. Sure, they
- 22:14Speaker 1: had 295 total yards. I get that, but I love
- 22:19Speaker 1: what Vic Fangio has been able to do with that defense,
- 22:24Speaker 1: and you look at Zach Bond, too. I don't know
- 22:28Speaker 1: if you guys saw it, Zach Bond almost made the
- 22:30Speaker 1: craziest interception I've ever seen on this island, but Zach
- 22:32Speaker 1: Bond leading the way with 12 tackles. Let's talk about
- 22:36Speaker 1: the Eagles, because there was a lot of talk coming
- 22:42Speaker 1: into this year about, like there always is, Nick Sirianni,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and is his job safe, Howie Roseman, yada, yada, yada,
- 22:52Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, a lot of discourse. I would say that
- 22:57Speaker 1: I have at times been a little rough on Jalen.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I would say Jalen, to me, played a really good
- 23:03Speaker 1: game this year, like this game. Let's give him props.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Here's the thing, too. When you bring in offensive coordinator
- 23:09Speaker 1: Sean Mannion, Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan disciple, put him under
- 23:14Speaker 1: center way more, let him go with it. A lot
- 23:18Speaker 1: of play action, a lot of jet sweep motion. This
- 23:21Speaker 1: would be the first year in the offense, in my opinion,
- 23:24Speaker 1: and Jalen, and he's had, I don't even know, Klump
- 23:26Speaker 1: will probably know, 18 different offensive coordinators through his career.
- 23:31Speaker 1: He has never been in an offense like this, and
- 23:33Speaker 1: he showed every single time that he's had a new
- 23:36Speaker 1: coordinator that he plays really well. And so I would
- 23:39Speaker 1: say that when you look at his game today, he
- 23:42Speaker 1: was under center so much more. He looked good. He
- 23:47Speaker 1: controlled the offensive line. He controlled the run game. Obviously,
- 23:51Speaker 1: like Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goddard, and Dontavian Wicks, to me,
- 23:58Speaker 1: need to be talked about. If Dontavian Wicks can continue
- 24:00Speaker 1: to have 73 yards receiving, he had a long of
- 24:05Speaker 1: 64 yards. on only four targets, that's a 36 and
- 24:08Speaker 1: a half yard average. Goddard down the seam, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 1: they were doing, they were playing a lot of too
- 24:14Speaker 1: high shell look. Talking about Goddard in the middle of
- 24:17Speaker 1: the field, I do believe it's really, really good to
- 24:21Speaker 1: have like a blanket of protection there with Dallas Goddard.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Here's the thing, I want to see Makai Lemon get going.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I want to see Makai Lemon step up. I want
- 24:34Speaker 1: to see Makai Lemon continued his progression. But really with
- 24:38Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, to me, I was impressed. I got to
- 24:42Speaker 1: say I was impressed. But yeah, so that to me,
- 24:46Speaker 1: those are the games that we're going to get to.
- 24:49Speaker 1: We are going to get to the quarterback room next.
- 24:53Speaker 1: This football season, whether you're buying tickets, booking travel, or
- 24:56Speaker 1: shopping for team gear, protect your pocket with Visa. Tapping
- 25:00Speaker 1: to pay for a bootleg jersey without checking the card?
- 25:03Speaker 1: Not a pro move. Tapping to pay with Visa? That's
- 25:06Speaker 1: a pro move. Visa runs more than 500 security checks
- 25:09Speaker 1: to help identify fraud before transactions are approved, helping protect
- 25:13Speaker 1: your payment all the way to the end zone. So
- 25:16Speaker 1: you can focus on other things, like whether boneless wings
- 25:19Speaker 1: are actually wings. Reaching for your card with five fingers
- 25:23Speaker 1: covered in buffalo sauce? That's a fumble waiting to happen.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Not a pro move. Tapping to pay with Visa? That's
- 25:30Speaker 1: a pro move. Because with Visa, you're not responsible for
- 25:34Speaker 1: any charges you didn't make. So you can save your
- 25:37Speaker 1: defensive energy for something else. Like keeping Taylor away from
- 25:41Speaker 1: your nachos. This season, a great defensive play is paying
- 25:45Speaker 1: with Visa. The most trusted way to pay for football
- 25:48Speaker 1: fans everywhere. Alright guys, welcome back into the first read.
- 25:52Speaker 1: That was the games that mattered most. Now we are in...
- 25:56Speaker 1: What I like to call the quarterback room. Come into
- 25:59Speaker 1: the quarterback meeting room. We are going to break down quarterbacks. Games.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Tell us what's happening. Maybe we'll do stock up. I
- 26:08Speaker 1: don't know. I'm just going to throw stuff left and right.
- 26:11Speaker 1: And we have to. We have to start with one
- 26:16Speaker 1: of my favorite quarterbacks that I've broken down. And I
- 26:21Speaker 1: think he's lived up to the height. That's right. That's
- 26:23Speaker 1: Caleb Williams in the Chicago playoffs. Bears Caleb Williams and
- 26:27Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears put up I believe 59 points 59
- 26:38Speaker 1: points versus the Panthers that is unbelievable Ben Johnson Caleb
- 26:46Speaker 1: Williams in year two of that offense I mean that
- 26:49Speaker 1: was unbelievable and what a showdown it was between Bryce
- 26:52Speaker 1: because I thought Bryce Young I mean when you When
- 26:54Speaker 1: you score 37, you think you're supposed to win. Not
- 26:57Speaker 1: so fast, says Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson. So much
- 27:03Speaker 1: to break down about Caleb Williams. The first one has
- 27:08Speaker 1: nothing to do with Caleb Williams, but Caleb Williams is
- 27:12Speaker 1: a direct recipient of this, and it is the run game.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I forgot how good... And how creative of a run
- 27:21Speaker 1: game that Ben Johnson has. They are using multiple personnel groupings.
- 27:25Speaker 1: They are using multiple formations. They are using formation to
- 27:28Speaker 1: the boundary, which means you put everything like a bunch
- 27:31Speaker 1: or a quads or whatever into that area. And they
- 27:35Speaker 1: are just confusing the hell out of defenses. And they
- 27:40Speaker 1: had this last year. They really did, but to see
- 27:44Speaker 1: it on paper, to see two Chicago Bears players, Kyle
- 27:51Speaker 1: McGunguy and DeAndre Swift, have a total of 28 carries
- 27:57Speaker 1: for 224 yards between them, both 100-yard rushers, mind you,
- 28:02Speaker 1: and four rushing touchdowns. The Bears had six touchdowns. six
- 28:10Speaker 1: rushing touchdowns. Come on now. There's teams out there that
- 28:14Speaker 1: haven't had six rushing touchdowns in the first six weeks
- 28:17Speaker 1: of the season before. So that is where this offense starts.
- 28:22Speaker 1: So I am extremely excited about it. Oh, by the way,
- 28:25Speaker 1: Caleb Williams, who we're talking about right now, 10 carries,
- 28:28Speaker 1: 65 yards, two touchdowns as well. To go with 21
- 28:32Speaker 1: of 29, 269 and two touchdowns. If I was giving
- 28:36Speaker 1: out helmet stickers like college, this is the guy who
- 28:38Speaker 1: gets it. This is the guy who gets all of it.
- 28:42Speaker 1: So because they're able to run the football under center
- 28:46Speaker 1: out of multiple different personnel groupings, like I was mentioning,
- 28:50Speaker 1: it allows for Caleb Williams to be under center. And
- 28:53Speaker 1: when he drops back, to be able to see all
- 28:56Speaker 1: these different guys, but to be able to have the
- 28:58Speaker 1: time and to escape, like we always know that he
- 29:02Speaker 1: does this. And we've always said, hey, he's a home
- 29:04Speaker 1: run hitter, right? He always likes to take these shots.
- 29:07Speaker 1: He's always wanting to do this. He's always wanted to
- 29:10Speaker 1: do that, and a lot was made of his completion percentage.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Guess what it was today? Go ahead, guess. 72.4%. I
- 29:17Speaker 1: don't even think he completed 60% last year. So much
- 29:21Speaker 1: more effective in the air. He wasn't just trying to
- 29:23Speaker 1: take home runs down the field. More importantly, Caleb Williams
- 29:28Speaker 1: is still Houdini. I tweeted that out. He's able to
- 29:31Speaker 1: move around in the pocket like no one else's business.
- 29:34Speaker 1: There was a play. a touchdown throw. He's rolling to
- 29:38Speaker 1: his right, throws back across his body to his left.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And I just don't know. This is not being hyperbolic whatsoever.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I don't know how many other people in the world
- 29:52Speaker 1: can make that throw. And it's not like it was
- 29:55Speaker 1: wide open. It was completely covered and that's great. You
- 30:01Speaker 1: know what else is great? Roma Dunze. You know what
- 30:05Speaker 1: else is great? Luther Burden. You know what else is great?
- 30:09Speaker 1: All these weapons that they have, most importantly, I think
- 30:12Speaker 1: one of the best tight ends in the entire game,
- 30:15Speaker 1: young tight ends, Colson Loveland, zero catches, zero yards, zero touchdowns,
- 30:22Speaker 1: only two targets. He wasn't even a big part of
- 30:25Speaker 1: their plans. Like, are you kidding me? Kalief Raymond, their
- 30:28Speaker 1: slot receiver, led their team in catches, targets, and receptions.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Luther Burden is going to have a breakout year. Would
- 30:38Speaker 1: I dare say, Jeremy Klump, producer, that the Chicago Bears
- 30:43Speaker 1: are better off without DJ Moore? Sometimes, let me just
- 30:48Speaker 1: break this down. Sometimes when you're a quarterback and you
- 30:50Speaker 1: have a bona fide number one receiver, you want to
- 30:53Speaker 1: get on the ball. Sometimes you force them the ball.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Not the biggest fan of DJ Moore's attitude outbursts and
- 31:00Speaker 1: sometimes lack of hustle, although he was amazing for Buffalo.
- 31:02Speaker 1: So Buffalo's got him themselves a guy. But now the
- 31:07Speaker 1: ball can go to so many different people, and it
- 31:10Speaker 1: just makes the offense more scary. But the Colson Levin thing,
- 31:14Speaker 1: he wasn't even involved. Totally fine. You've got to get
- 31:17Speaker 1: him involved, though. You've got to get him in the
- 31:18Speaker 1: slot versus linebackers, tight ends. all these things. I mean,
- 31:23Speaker 1: the Bears had 552 total yards of offense. Komet, Cole
- 31:29Speaker 1: Komet was the one I was talking about, that one
- 31:31Speaker 1: that I don't think that many people in the world
- 31:33Speaker 1: can make that throw. And I would just say, final
- 31:38Speaker 1: thought on Caleb Williams, he was electric today. He's playing
- 31:41Speaker 1: out of his mind, more importantly, to break down what
- 31:45Speaker 1: Carolina was doing. Okay, there's such thing called a mush rush.
- 31:48Speaker 1: What the hell is a mush rush? A mush rush
- 31:51Speaker 1: is where defensive linemen for Carolina, they don't rush past
- 31:57Speaker 1: the quarterback. They rush to the quarterback. That's exactly what
- 32:01Speaker 1: they were doing. And why were they doing it? Well,
- 32:03Speaker 1: because they were worried about Caleb Williams' creativity and escapability.
- 32:07Speaker 1: When you do that, though, you open up yourself to
- 32:11Speaker 1: not getting to the quarterback, not sacking the quarterback, not
- 32:14Speaker 1: doing all these things. And then if you do break
- 32:16Speaker 1: contain on a mush rush, good luck. 65 yards rushing
- 32:20Speaker 1: because of it. Carolina did not change their plan. It
- 32:23Speaker 1: gave him all day in the pocket, and he was
- 32:25Speaker 1: able to pick them apart. Another helmet-sicker, game ball, whatever
- 32:29Speaker 1: we're doing, flash it up, something like that. Caleb Williams,
- 32:32Speaker 1: stock way the hell up. Way up. Like, second-best quarterback,
- 32:40Speaker 1: third-best quarterback performance of the week behind Josh Allen and
- 32:42Speaker 1: Brock Purdy. All right, let's get to stock way, way
- 32:47Speaker 1: down here. You guys know what I'm going to say.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson, what are we doing? What are we doing?
- 32:56Speaker 1: Multiple times that the ball should have been taken away.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Multiple times that I just felt embarrassed a little bit
- 33:06Speaker 1: for Deshaun Watson. There's a lot of talk out there
- 33:09Speaker 1: between Deshaun Watson, Shador Sanders, all this stuff. Deshaun Watson
- 33:14Speaker 1: got booed at home. You don't think that he's going
- 33:16Speaker 1: to get booed at home their next home game even more?
- 33:18Speaker 1: I mean, the time is now for Shador Sanders. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: thought for sure that Deshaun Watson was not going to
- 33:25Speaker 1: make it out through the first half. The numbers look
- 33:30Speaker 1: way better than they should. 16 of 22, 205 yards,
- 33:34Speaker 1: one touchdown, one interception. Took five sacks. The five sacks,
- 33:40Speaker 1: the interception, he fumbled one, didn't lose it. I don't
- 33:46Speaker 1: know what you want me to say. Browns, you knew
- 33:49Speaker 1: this was going to happen. You started the game with
- 33:54Speaker 1: an interception. Browns had a grand total of 95 yards
- 34:00Speaker 1: in the first half. I'm not saying that Shador Sanders
- 34:04Speaker 1: is going to be some savior, but I really do
- 34:07Speaker 1: like the core pieces in Cleveland. Casey Concepcion, Denzel Boston,
- 34:14Speaker 1: those were the two leading receivers. Both those guys are rookies.
- 34:18Speaker 1: You got Quinshawn Judkins. Deshaun Watson, for whatever reason, led
- 34:21Speaker 1: the team in rushing. Get the run game going. Get
- 34:24Speaker 1: Todd Munkin under center. Now, here's the thing, too, about
- 34:27Speaker 1: Todd Munkin. I believe Shador Sanders fits Todd Munkin's offense
- 34:33Speaker 1: way better than Deshaun Watson does. It's a spread it out.
- 34:38Speaker 1: It's 11 personnel. It's let them cook. It's exactly what
- 34:41Speaker 1: it did at Colorado. Harold Fannin Jr., I mean, they
- 34:44Speaker 1: have a very, very good core. Defensively, got to figure
- 34:49Speaker 1: it out. Trevor Lawrence, I mean, looked all world. We're
- 34:52Speaker 1: not breaking him down today. Maybe next time. I'm not
- 34:55Speaker 1: saying the Browns can be a competitor, but with the
- 34:58Speaker 1: right quarterback, I think they could make a lot of noise.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Here's what I will say before we get on to
- 35:05Speaker 1: the next quarterback is the Browns have two first-round picks
- 35:11Speaker 1: next year. I do not believe that the quarterback on
- 35:13Speaker 1: their roster right now is currently with the team. I
- 35:17Speaker 1: think they're going to pick somebody in this draft, build
- 35:21Speaker 1: around him. We shall see. I said I wasn't going
- 35:23Speaker 1: to break down Trevor Lawrence. I'm lying. I'm lying. I
- 35:25Speaker 1: couldn't help myself because Trevor Lawrence's performance versus the Cleveland Browns,
- 35:29Speaker 1: and Cleveland Browns have a good defense. I get it.
- 35:31Speaker 1: It's not great. Trade away Myles Garrett. But Liam Cohn
- 35:34Speaker 1: and Trevor Lawrence looked dynamite from the start. They've been
- 35:39Speaker 1: doing so much cool stuff on offense. different personnel groupings,
- 35:42Speaker 1: putting them under center. Very efficient day. Here's what I loved.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Only threw the ball 23 times. They ran the ball 32,
- 35:50Speaker 1: tried to play keep away, but he was 18 of 23,
- 35:52Speaker 1: 245 yards. Four touchdowns through the air. Just no big deal.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Zero interceptions. Only took one sack. QBR, almost perfect. You
- 36:03Speaker 1: can't throw it any better. Parker Washington, Jacoby Myers, Brian
- 36:06Speaker 1: Thomas Jr. Spreaded around to, I don't know, it looks
- 36:09Speaker 1: like fifth, like nine different receivers. That's what this Liam
- 36:13Speaker 1: Cohen offense is. That's where they gain their advantage. Trevor Lawrence,
- 36:17Speaker 1: it is time for, I'm so sick and tired of
- 36:19Speaker 1: talking about Trevor Lawrence taking the Nets up. Thought he
- 36:21Speaker 1: played well last year. Liam Cohen, year two, it's time
- 36:25Speaker 1: to go. And look, you're playing in the AFC South,
- 36:28Speaker 1: Texans lost, Colts lost. You guys got a shot to
- 36:35Speaker 1: make some really, really sneaky moves this year. Let's see
- 36:39Speaker 1: what you got. And now, I love this so much.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson. Holy cow. Lamar Jackson looked like himself. He
- 36:50Speaker 1: looked like himself of old. Just absolutely disrupted the Colts.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Scored 41 points. The offense was dominant. It wasn't only
- 37:03Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson. It was Derrick Henry as well. Everything in between.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, 17-25, 324 yards, one touchdown, and ran for
- 37:13Speaker 1: another touchdown, seven carries for 40 yards. Zay Flowers, too.
- 37:17Speaker 1: When you've got a guy like that, next level. Derrick Henry,
- 37:22Speaker 1: 144 yards, three touchdowns. He is denying father time, still
- 37:27Speaker 1: looks dominant as all get out. And here's the thing.
- 37:30Speaker 1: The Ravens had 10 penalties and still some drops and
- 37:33Speaker 1: still put up 41 on the road. Jesse Mentor, massive changes,
- 37:38Speaker 1: massive year for Lamar Jackson, right? Bring in offensive coordinator
- 37:42Speaker 1: Declan Doyle. Awesome job, excited to see it. Ravens this year,
- 37:48Speaker 1: might be scary. I'm just saying, might be scary. All right,
- 37:51Speaker 1: let's move on. C-block, here we go. What we learned,
- 37:55Speaker 1: the looking forward point, which means the biggest storylines coming
- 37:59Speaker 1: out of week one, heading in to week two. Are
- 38:04Speaker 1: NFL offenses... making adjustments to recent defensive trends that have
- 38:08Speaker 1: had offenses struggling. I don't know what the average points
- 38:12Speaker 1: per game was, but I do know, I think I
- 38:14Speaker 1: heard on CBS, it was teams averaged 51 points. What
- 38:19Speaker 1: in the world is happening? Usually, think about it, from
- 38:22Speaker 1: a training camp perspective, because the defense always has less
- 38:25Speaker 1: plays to put in, they usually start way faster than
- 38:29Speaker 1: any offense does. When you're able to start fast on offense,
- 38:33Speaker 1: it's because, hey, you've got good playmakers and all that stuff.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Defenses looked overwhelmed. We have been talking about this trend
- 38:40Speaker 1: recently of so many different defenses playing in this too
- 38:44Speaker 1: high safety look, right? It's all what anyone talks about.
- 38:48Speaker 1: They're light in the box, which means you only have
- 38:49Speaker 1: six defenders in the box. Your nickel's out. You have
- 38:52Speaker 1: two high safeties. Can teams run the ball? Well, guess what?
- 38:54Speaker 1: Teams are getting in heavy personnel groupings. 22 personnel, two backs,
- 38:58Speaker 1: two tight ends. 13 personnel, one back, three tight ends.
- 39:00Speaker 1: 21 personnel, two backs, one tight end. It's almost like
- 39:03Speaker 1: Father Time's coming back and saying, hey, we're going to
- 39:05Speaker 1: run the football until you get out of those two
- 39:07Speaker 1: high safety looks. And when you get out of those
- 39:09Speaker 1: two high safety looks, once you rotate down on either side,
- 39:12Speaker 1: we are going to take a shot down the field
- 39:14Speaker 1: and teams are hitting it. I love what I'm seeing.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Offenses fighting back versus the defenses. So I do think
- 39:20Speaker 1: this is a trend that's going to continue happening. Let's see.
- 39:26Speaker 1: The next storyline to me, I don't want to overreact,
- 39:30Speaker 1: but I'm going to overreact. Are the Rams in trouble?
- 39:33Speaker 1: That Melbourne game, or Melbourne as they call it, was wild.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Getting throttled in Australia. I don't want to hear all
- 39:43Speaker 1: your excuses about, oh, the Rams traveled 28 hours before
- 39:46Speaker 1: and the 49ers were traveled twice. you know, 10 days before,
- 39:50Speaker 1: whatever it was, it was an old fashioned butt whooping.
- 39:52Speaker 1: It was an out coaching. The Rams have always, or sorry,
- 39:56Speaker 1: the 49ers have always had Kyle Shanahan's number, like, or sorry,
- 40:00Speaker 1: the 49ers have always had Sean McVay's number. I say always,
- 40:03Speaker 1: they play them really well. No one was expecting the
- 40:08Speaker 1: 49ers to throttle the Rams like that, except me. I
- 40:10Speaker 1: called it, look at my Twitter. I'm just going to say,
- 40:12Speaker 1: I said it, uh, I said, it'd be a close game. Um,
- 40:16Speaker 1: Here's even more of a damning issue is that Aaron
- 40:20Speaker 1: Donald didn't travel, didn't play, probably not playing this week.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Miles Garrett, huge, huge, huge, huge signing trade IR. I
- 40:30Speaker 1: could not believe it when Adam Schefter tweeted that. Miles Garrett,
- 40:33Speaker 1: knee surgery. Matthew Stafford didn't look like himself. I think
- 40:40Speaker 1: they're going to be okay. This defensive line thing that
- 40:44Speaker 1: everyone's like, oh my gosh, how are they going to
- 40:45Speaker 1: handle it? Now they're without two potential, no, not two potential,
- 40:49Speaker 1: two first ballot Hall of Famers. Got to settle in offensively.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Got to get into a rhythm. I think Stafford will
- 40:54Speaker 1: get used to it. He's getting older, but he's going
- 40:56Speaker 1: to get to it. I don't want to say they're
- 40:59Speaker 1: in trouble. It's one game in, but I'm overreacting. They're
- 41:01Speaker 1: in trouble. The last thing, and this will be quick.
- 41:06Speaker 1: We're going to keep this going throughout the year. New
- 41:08Speaker 1: OCs in new places. All right. Let's start. with a
- 41:12Speaker 1: couple offensive coordinators and how they fared today in new places.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Eagles and Sean Manning, we already talked about it a
- 41:17Speaker 1: little bit. If they can keep this up, I know
- 41:20Speaker 1: Klump's smiling from ear to ear, if they can keep
- 41:22Speaker 1: this up, put him under center, Jalen Hurts under center,
- 41:24Speaker 1: Get that run game going. That offensive line is still
- 41:26Speaker 1: one of the best in the game, in my opinion.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I think they're going to have a lot of success.
- 41:31Speaker 1: You have different motions. You have different jet sweeps. You
- 41:36Speaker 1: have different jet motion. It's just, it's a lot. And
- 41:39Speaker 1: I think if Jalen Hurts can get more comfortable under center,
- 41:43Speaker 1: they are going to be trending up new OCs in
- 41:45Speaker 1: new places. Here's one we haven't talked about. Arizona Cardinals
- 41:49Speaker 1: beat down the Los Angeles Chargers at home in Los Angeles.
- 41:54Speaker 1: But how about the Chargers and Mike McDaniel? It looked
- 41:58Speaker 1: pretty bad today. The Chargers end up losing and only
- 42:02Speaker 1: scoring 14 points. They lose to Jacoby Brissett. Jacoby Brissett
- 42:05Speaker 1: outplayed Justin Herbert at home. Cardinals 26, Chargers 14. Herbert 17-27,
- 42:09Speaker 1: 209 yards, one touchdown. The biggest issue I saw was
- 42:17Speaker 1: the Cardinals did not let that run game get going.
- 42:20Speaker 1: When Mike McDaniel signed with Harbaugh, we were like, oh,
- 42:22Speaker 1: he's going to run the ball left and right. He's
- 42:23Speaker 1: going to do all these things. He's going to do
- 42:25Speaker 1: all this stuff. 21 carries, 81 yards. What are we doing?
- 42:27Speaker 1: Ladman Conkey got hurt. Great game, five catches, 82 yards,
- 42:30Speaker 1: a touchdown. Hope he's okay. Not quite the start for
- 42:34Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel that he wanted. We talked about the Ravens
- 42:38Speaker 1: and Declan Doyle. I just, I love it. It allows
- 42:42Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson to play under center, on time, so many
- 42:47Speaker 1: different cool things that they were doing, different formations, putting
- 42:50Speaker 1: different pieces in different places. Think about old Ben Johnson-style offense.
- 42:56Speaker 1: You see how the Ravens were able to run the football? Well,
- 42:58Speaker 1: guess where the Bears ran over 250 yards today? It
- 43:02Speaker 1: came from that tree of things. A little bit of
- 43:04Speaker 1: Sean Payton in him, Joe Lombardi, who is with Sean Payton,
- 43:08Speaker 1: is now in the booth with him. There's a lot
- 43:10Speaker 1: of fun stuff trending up for sure. And last but
- 43:13Speaker 1: not least, Bills and Pete Carmichael. We talked about it,
- 43:15Speaker 1: but I think Josh Allen is going to really enjoy
- 43:19Speaker 1: Pete Carmichael there. They're going to bring some under center
- 43:21Speaker 1: play action shot plays down the field that Josh Allen
- 43:24Speaker 1: hasn't brought to. So really looking forward to that today. Guys,
- 43:28Speaker 1: we did it. We made it through the week one
