- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: On the show today from can be our on his way to a New York this week is him to do a nighters pregame from met life stadium.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: So he'll be the first person to check out the the grass.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: They say it's new grass different grass than the last grass is the old grass the new grass so much better at met life John Dickinson is here and he is brought to us today by our friends at Puesto
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: may he kindle moderno they don't have a home game that either so you can't go into the state didn't get your quest all this week but you can't go to their locations in the bay area what encountered uh one in Santa Clara and locations in southern California and so we'll tell you more about quest of it i know jadies a big quest okay which we can get to jadies love for quest of coming up but first
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: The trade deadline is quickly approaching the 49ers have one more game before that deadline.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: They did a choir of player this week and you know, I think one of the big questions JD and it was interesting just watching Kyle Shanahan on Wednesday talking about how physically beat up John Jennings has been and that he's getting better.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about all the guys that they could bring in.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: I do think one of the big questions this week is John Jennings on his way out.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm torn on this and I need your help because on one hand, he's one of your best receivers, even as it stands today.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: Led you in targets and catches on Sunday.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: On the other hand, you're not getting the ton, even from one of your best receivers, and he's not coming back to this team next year.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're going to make another move that cost you a fifth round pit, can you get one back?
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: for Joanne Jennings.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then you asked the natural question, well, who is giving you, would you give a fifth for Joanne Jennings right now?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you think?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Are we about to watch Joanne Jennings last game as a 49er?
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's possible, although it sure didn't sound like Cal Shanahan believed it was possible.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you watch that the press conference is, we both did earlier on Wednesday afternoon, but I think if you could get a fifth short answer, I think the 49ers would probably do it, considering the headache.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: that the Joanne Jennings has been.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I kind of found myself in the Houston game sitting there at NRG Stadium, wondering, are the Niners throwing it to Joanne Jennings because he's the most open receiver that they have or they throw it to Joanne Jennings because Joanne Jennings is pissed off because he hasn't been getting the rock as much when he's been on the field.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: And the numbers for Jennings
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: it's just he's he struggled.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's not had a good year.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: I know Kyle alluded to the fact that he's been extremely banged up really throughout the course of of the entire season, but the energy has just been off from Joanne Jennings from from the outset going back to training camp and he was not going to show up and then he did show up and then he was injured and we didn't know what the heck was going on as a contract related.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: They give them those little incentive bumps immediately and then I think he
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: legitimately injured after that, you know, going back to the early, early part of the season, and so he's been in and out of the line up a little bit.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: So if you could get a fifth for Joanne Jennings, I think Joanne Jennings probably is playing his last game with the 49ers, but I don't think you can get a fifth for Joanne Jennings, because I think everybody knows the situation.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: It could make some sense to move him, but I will say this, they better be absolutely freaking sure that Brandon and I, you can come in back here and, and going to be
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: you know, a real productive wide receiver, and it Ricky Pierce all is coming back in short order, and he's going to be a really productive wide receiver.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: If you have those two plus Kendrick born, plus Demarkis Robinson, then I think you've got a capable enough top four to close out the season and attempt to make the playoffs.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: If you think you're going to be short,
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: And any one of those four spots, then you might as well just keep Joe on Jennings because I think he's probably at this point going for more like a seventh or a conditional seven that turns into a six, then anything above that.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: I thought to Marcus Robinson would get would have given him more by this point.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: especially given health in there, you know, like you say, okay, how's he going to get touches when I use his back and kiddles healthy and Joanne Jennings is getting all the third down targets and Ricky Pierce all, you know, who was one of the best receivers in the NFL for the first month, but that hasn't been nothing but opportunities and it hasn't worked and he dropped the ball two weeks ago on the deep shot from Mac Jones.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought his floor would be higher.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think he'd be a high ceiling.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: I thought his floor would be.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: would be higher.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of where Juana is, you know, I think his floor should be pretty high.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what's been frustrating.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think you got to attribute some of it to the injury.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think you've got to give them some of that.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's earned that.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: But to your point, the vibe has been off.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: And he's a guy that, you know, feels like what kind of drives his performances is a motion in a good way.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe it's, it's heard it.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: But like Jordan Walkins isn't about to,
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, for your playmaker, non-factor.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Jordan Watkins and on factor and we saw even in the one ball in Houston, he's just not ready to go up and make it.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, was it thrown a little high, sure, but he's just not ready to go up and make that right through there.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, no, even he no receiver would tell you anything other than you got to catch that.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: And it looked that's a tough, you know, first potential NFL catch, but it just shows to me that you're not getting much from him in the second half of the year.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Keon White, you know, there's so much to hit, so, but Keon White, I think is interesting because this is the guy that I was traded for for a sixth, seventh round swap.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it was, he's not Bryce Huff, but to me the common thread with Bryce Huff is, Bryce Huff was in a situation last year that wasn't the best for Bryce Huff, and he came to a coach who knows him in Robert Sala, and they found the way to make the most of his skillset.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Now, they don't know Keon White in the same way, but Keon White said, what, three different head coaches in three years?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: That is the kind of guy with talent that you say, maybe we can find a way, especially because, you know, his five sacs last year matched the third highest total for the Niners.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: That would have been tied for third on the Niners last year.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Coaching change, he's out, production down, but still young enough in talented enough.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: So like to me, that's a sola,
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's a solid addition right there.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: It is and it's one in which you don't have to give up hardly anything.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I know Kyle Shanahan said that they really like the way he played against the 49ers going back to the early part of the season last season at Levi's and which is always a little.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you always cut that that always you can kind of wonder.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right, what's going on there, but and they, you know, they like his tape.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: They like his tape, so I like them coming out, right?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so they had to do something.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think the bottom line is they had to do something without really giving up much so they add him.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the biggest takeaway and I go back to it, it reminded me on a smaller scale of something that the Kyle Shanahan said to me and Greg Papa, we were doing the giraffe show back at Levi's on giraffe night and we were talking about my kill Williams and I asked Kyle,
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: how important it was to, to, you know, factor in drafting my killeems, the fact that you can play outside and inside, and Kyle loves those guys that can play outside and then slide inside and my killeems have a big part of the allure Kyle said in drafting him was that versatility and and Kyle.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: did talk about that versatility for Keon white in his press conference.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's interesting he's somebody that they can put on the outside, but also has the ability to move to the inside and the nighters really are at a point where they need help.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: They need help everywhere, and they also
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: raider draft pick that didn't pan out for them and then ended up with the 49ers in in 2000 and 23 and was a part of that team that went to the Super Bowl.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: So they add him back and it's just they need bodies.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's the big thing along the D line.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: They just don't have enough bodies.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're not getting production, but they also are low, I think, on NFL quality depth for well, especially with the injuries continuing to to pile up over the course of these last
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they are, it's like, do you need this, yes, do you need this, yes, which one do you want?
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, both.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, it's, it's benefited them on offense for sure because that's Christians thing.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well, we'll down several receivers.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: Let's okay.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: We'll throw it to Christian McCaffrey.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I obviously get in Kettlebacks a big deal.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: Where are you at, JD?
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: with, you know, the athletic has their NFL playoff simulator.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, the Niners, according to that, have a 73% chance of making the playoff, by the way, I got to give credit to producer Connor, who wrote about this on his sub-stack, Joe Co. show.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: But 73% sounds pretty good.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: But it's the third best odds in the division.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: The C-Hawks said 84% the Rams and 90% and I think you beat the Rams in two weeks and this thing changes quite a bit.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: But that's still a playoff team there.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: Right now the projection is a three team three teams representing the NFC West.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: This is a major swing game this week and the whole thing.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta beat the New York Giants.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: you really do.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think in the giants are back to to be an enchamble with the scataboo injury now and you know that they were looking like they were in position to have some action when they had the big lead in Denver.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: They had just beaten Philadelphia at home and then they let that
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: that game get away in Denver with the massive fourth quarter that the Broncos have at 33.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then they go ahead after they blow the lead and then they still leave enough time to where the Broncos go down and win it.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then they get crushed by Philadelphia.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: They were kind of hanging in the game early, but it ends up being a Philly walk, but they lose Scataboo, who's been a Longwich accent, dark, the two players that really flipped the script
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: and a month or so ago, and then it looked like, oh, this is going to be a tough year.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: They're beating Philly inside MetLife Stadium.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: They're beating the Chargers when the Chargers were smoking to begin the year at MetLife Stadium or thinking, wow, this could be a potentially really difficult game.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: Why I'm at what the Niners though at this point?
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: I do think, you look at the NFC standings.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: They're the seventh best team.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: They are, they are the third best team of the division.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: As they're currently constituted, I know they got the early wins against Seattle and NLA and that's why they are still where they are at five and three, but I look at it, not so much that the Niners are in this race with the Rams and the Seahawks although they are because they have the head to head win and they're only a half game back, but I feel like it's more they're in this race
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: the bears and the Panthers and the Cowboys and the Falcons and the Vikings and maybe the commanders and and I think that race is very much a race that the 49ers can win and I do think and I've said this since the the Fred Warner injury going back a couple of weeks ago guy there is a pathway to the 49ers getting to 10 wins and making the playoffs likely as a
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that would be a really successful season considering the circumstances and all the injuries.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Niners have shown an inability when things have gone off the rails from an injury standpoint to hold a season together.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you look at the examples of, you know, even go back to 2018.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't do it after Garoppolo gets hurt.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: you look at 2020 after they get to the Super Bowl during COVID and then last year the other year coming off of the Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs, everything just falls apart primarily due to injuries.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I think this team shown a little bit of a moxie and a hold it together that they haven't in other years.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I give them credit for that and I think
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: you know what?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you're sealing winds up being getting in and getting beat in the first round.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that should be considered given everything that's gone on to be a real, you know, just a colossal failure of a season.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: But I've got my path that I'll get to here in terms of the remaining schedule.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: We'll play the schedule game a little bit if you want.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's a very realistic path for the
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, three things.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: One on the schedule, which we can get to, but yeah, you think like, okay, well, who else would make the playoffs if you don't?
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: And you kind of hit on it.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like any of these teams.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a good place to go.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: And you're going to play Carolina and you've beaten Atlanta.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: You got, you know, Carol Dallas as well at three and four.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: We know we know there.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: We, the good thing is we know the Cowboys DNA.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: If anything, Minnesota and Washington are the teams to look out for, but
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: But they're going to have to play great football.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like Minnesota is going to have to go seven and three.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: You probably need to close the you know, watching it's going to have to go eight and two or something.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: You just got to be looking, you look at quarterback upside.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like deck could beat some people and maybe Washington finds it on offense, right?
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: And but I don't see that with Minnesota.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see it with Atlanta.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not in my mind, Chicago Carolina, Dallas, even though those currently are the closest teams to the 49ers.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the one thing is Dallas, even though I don't love, you know, the DNA of the cowboys is like, but it's not great, but they do that group, there's grouping of teams like that could go through over 340 and beat somebody and be a 500 team.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, number two to your point on injuries, the difference is like,
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you're back up quarterback has to win you a couple of games, you're usually toast like they can win you two out of four and you feel really happy if you're started misses four games in the back of goes five and goes to it to like that is that's like what the chiefs do or maybe they go three and one was whoever but that's the difference this year is the 49ers have a backup quarterback who's better than a backup quarterback and Matt Jones so.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: But we can talk about Brock, but let's do the schedule game real quick, because you, you know, this week, the giants, then the Rams at home.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think I did it the other day.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: The Niners remaining schedule is, you know, it's why they've got a shot.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, it's why they've got a shot.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: I've got the, and Matt Jones is the other reason.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: 3035.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: 30 and 35 is their remaining opponents record and you know up until their buy, which is week 14, you've got two and six giants, five and two ramps, two and five, two and five Arizona, four and four Carolina, two and five Cleveland.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: So what is that?
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Two, four, six,
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: 10, 15, and 10, 18?
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: No, 10.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: This is great.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing math.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: 10, 6, and 24.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, their next handful of games, these teams are well under 500.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so here's how I look at it pretty simply and to the point on Mac Jones.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if they didn't have Mac Jones, they'd be two and six or one and seven.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: And it would be a completely, or Brock would be over to, or Brock would be playing two soon.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: And he would be looking probably worse for having forced himself to come back a little bit too soon, which definitely doesn't help Brock.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll just go through it very quickly.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: The Niners are five and three.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: They've got nine games to go.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I was just kind of looking at it and map through it and look, a lot of 49er friends
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: probably aren't going to like some of the games I give them as losses.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't mean they're going to lose these games, but as I've said a lot on K&BR, I think the Niners have enough talent to win, I would say, seven, seven to the last nine, but they also could lose.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: maybe seven or eight of the last nine, like they truly, I think play for the most part, a lot of 50 50 games here between now and the end of the year, but here's how I mapped it out.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's a, that's a them thing.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: They just look at them.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: But the point is, like the giant's game is not a lock for them.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: But they could also, they've also shown that they might beat the ramps, in addition to that.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: But none of these games you'll go and play in Cleveland as they're currently constituted with Cleveland's defense at 10 o'clock in the morning, Pacific time on November 30th, at the Thanksgiving weekend.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's a game they could lose.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: They haven't won a game by the way in Cleveland, I think since 1992, something like that, they haven't played there a lot.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: two cities that stand out.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's different stadiums, but it's Cleveland, a Minnesota.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think you got to go back to what the early 90s for both of them were the Niners for all the greatness.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that mean we're talking about Super Bowl teams that would go there and, you know, Steve Young losing to Bernie Cows are or whatever the hell was going back 30 plus years.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: The 97 won a game in Cleveland since the I think the early 90s, if if memory serves.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: But all right, I'm going to run through it here.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: The way I haven't mapped out, and this is their
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: got to beat the New York Giants.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: That gets you to six and three real quick.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm giving them an L against the Rams.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that you're six and four.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Rams are a better team at this stage.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: We know the Niners can you get any of these games I'm counting his L's then it only helps you either offset one of the games that I'm counting his wins.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: But to me, then it comes down to your six and four.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: go it into the what I consider a three game stretch, Arizona in the desert home Monday night football against Carolina and at the Browns.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: So you're six and four going into that stretch.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: You got to go two and one.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: You can win any two of those three.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think the most likely for sure win is probably the home game on Monday night football against Carolina.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: So split the two road games, Arizona and Cleveland.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Is that that fair?
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: Is that a fair ask for this team?
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: You're
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: Might not win them both, but split those two, be Carolina.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: You do that, you're eight and five.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: Eight and five, considering everything.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Going into December and then going into your by week, you come out of your by week, and you play Tennessee.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, that's the only game remaining on the schedule that I think is a true lock.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Half, you don't have to get, should get,
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: will get, you know, kind of a game if you don't get, then call the whole thing off.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: So Tennessee puts you to nine and five.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I think I'm being pretty fair and level headed on this.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Then you go to Indy and Monday night football in December.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that will, you know, the culture playing great.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they're not playing as great a month and a half from now.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: You can take an L and that game you're nine and six and then the last that set you up for Sunday night football at home against the bears a team that may or may not be in the race with you for that final wildcard spot, but get that game at home you're ten and six.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: Right there, you have 10 wins with a game to spare and then Seattle coming in the early part of January for week 18 in the finale, you, you, you, you may need that game depending up on tie breakers and, and where other teams are at, but I actually kind of think the Niners may not even need that game.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: They might be able to clinch week 17 at 10 and six and not even need this Seattle game for a final wildcard spot potentially.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the path beat the giants.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: two out of three Arizona Carolina Cleveland that you got to beat Tennessee in the bears.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: You can take losses to Seattle and Indy again, one of the three Arizona Carolina Cleveland and you can lose to the Rams as long as you beat the Giants.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: You're 10 and seven and I think in this NFC, considering the standings that you put up there with all of those teams beneath them,
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: That gets you in.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: That gets you in.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not anything.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's not any crazy ask.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: You're not.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not asking them to beat Seattle again or the Rams again or Indy at all here between now and the end of the regular season.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: So it's very much in my mind.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: attainable.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's attainable with not much more adding to the roster in terms of the trade deadline and everybody's in a froth over that because it's coming up and it's a great talking point and the Niners reportedly have been very active, but I don't know because of the schedule they are in it's just they're in a realistic
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: position that I think nine years out of ten or seven years out of eight that they probably wouldn't be in, but they're in this spot and you might as well try to use it to your advantage and just get in the dance and see what happens.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's I do think there's a value in that with a young team.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: Totally, you know, with a young team, there's a value in, let's go play a playoff game and see what that feels like.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: And you don't want to be two years in a row of, well, you went 6 and 11 and then you went 7 and 10 or whatever it is and you missed two years.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then that starts to maybe affect your culture.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's really been one thing Calshanna hence been able to avoid.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they were 6 and 10 the first year.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: But remember, they were 1 and 10.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: Then they get Jimmy Garoppolo and they end up finished.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: They finished that year with an extreme high in terms of momentum.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of got nuked the next year because of the Jimmy Garoppolo injury, but then you're in the Super Bowl.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: You have a bad year.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: You bounce back.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: You have three good years.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: You have a bad year.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: You bounce back.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I think in the in the trajectory of Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch kind of keeping a hold on the the culture that they've built, it's important to have one of those.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: It feels very John Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we kind of we we weren't very good this year, but we still won 10 games and made the playoffs.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: on our worst day, we're still, uh, we are respectable.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which you don't hang bandage for that.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the other thing sneaky is like, I hate to say this.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to pocket watch another man, another man's money.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: The extension, extension time?
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'll, what I was just going to say is like, you know, the playoffs make the longer your team plays, the harder it is, the higher your coaches.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know, it's hard to gauge.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't really looked at what the coach market's going to look like, yet, for Robert Sala, but
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I think you have to accept that he's not going to be your defensive coordinator forever, but you'd like him for another year.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: You would, however, I thought about this and it was the first time I thought you want to lose Gus Bradley.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, no, I've thought who's going to be the DC next year, because and this was before the Houston game the defense didn't look great.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's him or Gus Bradley.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I've got a wild card name for you.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I go back two weeks ago to Kyle Shanahan and it kind of, the name perked in my head and I thought, oh, okay, what about Raheem Morris?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Falcons as the Falcons now are kind of a mess.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: It look like, oh, this could be a really good team and now... That's interesting.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I, and, and Kyle two weeks ago, I think it was today and the lead up to the game against the Falcons.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's talking about how, you know, how much he loves for him.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: Morris, and he's tried to hire him before to be on his staff.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: And, and so we'll see what happens ultimately with the Falcons.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm, I'm kind of, I'm to the point because it had gone so well with the 49ers defense, even after they lost Bosa, even after they lost Fred Warner in the game against the Falcons.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't planned, but when Kyle mentioned where he Morris, it kind of clicked well.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: And then I just might be looking for a DC and he really likes where he Morris and where he Morris has been at DC before at an extremely high level.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe maybe he could be somebody that winds up in that next next year.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's in the tree like you could have Morris and Mike McDang, that'll be an interesting one like what happens with him.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's gone too.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but then what does he choose to do next?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Does he come back or does he need to stay away?
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, that whole thing's interesting.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: Once the tree matures enough, you know, we're just getting the point of your tree now guys get fired.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't really had that yet.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: Sala, right, McDaniel, Bobby Slowwick, like the tree was still pretty young.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: Guys weren't getting fired yet and like having an opportunity to come back.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: I got to think if I got to think how would take Mike McDaniel back.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think you wouldn't have hurt me.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Mike, if Mike wanted to do that.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think Mike would love getting, can I use the term glazed?
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: Is that, you have to edit that out?
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: But don't you think Mike would want, you can, you can say that.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: But they just, Mike would want to go call an offense, like what, you know, like, I don't, I think Mike would love to come back and be weird.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: And he'll call the offense and speak every Thursday and just have everybody talk about how funny he is.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't call your business.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's weird and funny and cool.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Because they call the offense.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: They don't call the offense.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a sabbatta here for some.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like a sabbatta.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, coaches don't think of stuff like it.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: The coaches don't.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my coaches all say like, you know, it's nice to take the pressure off and just coach ball again.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then the second somebody offers him $12 million to be ahead of the coach they go take.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: I understand.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want, let me, let me ask you this.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: Who's, who's paying Mike Bagan, you look call plays for him next year?
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just take it the other way.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, solid.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's possible.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: Now, it's good to share.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's a great answer.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's, oh, it's stick that in your pat, JD.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, that's a good answer.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: No, let's check.
- 25:23[UNKNOWN]: No.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: at North Carolina or, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I mean, McDaniel will have options, but but I don't know.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's he's I don't want to say he seemed overwhelmed, I mean, it's still Miami.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Miami's pretty soft.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: He'd he'd been run out of a lot of other places.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think quicker with with his his his.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: his act shall we say.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Although I think it's genuine.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: I say it's his act, but it's genuine.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great mind.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: The personality from a game just doesn't do it for me.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: And it's actually a wonder to me that he's been able to be a head coach for as long as he's been able to be a head coach, considering the way he kind of operates and speaks.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: I would have thought that it would have worn much sooner and I really don't even get the impression that it's really worn.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's just
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: So in fairness, I know I'm kind of crushing Mike McDaniel, but I do think he's a talented offensive staff member to be sure, and a good guy, and a good guy.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's, and I don't think he's fake.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: I just think he's a little weird and I don't get how it plays and then if I lock a room.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: J.D.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: is a parent's brought to you by Presto and he caught him with their know the Adler brothers, just incredible food and that big matter fans.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: I know J.D.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: loves to hang that again, not a home game, but not the I always this what I say about Presto, the look the food is great, the vibe is great.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: The vibe is like McAfrey.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: It can be date night, it can be boys night, it can be business launch, very versatile.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, you don't you don't have to say anything about Presto, but I know you sincerely love Presto.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: I do, and I mean, for time purposes, I won't, but I absolutely, I absolutely love myself a filet mignon taco, or three, or maybe five.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: to get a big margarita guy and I, you know, I have them spice it up, but I know that my guy in Santa Clara working behind the bar, I said, well, you know, do you do a spicy?
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, well, we can, you know, I can, it was fantastic experience there.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was week two.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was the week two Thursday night.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's a yeah.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: And it was a Thursday night game and it was one of those where as you know the 49er practice and media availability is much later in the afternoon and I'm coming back up to Walnut Creek.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: So so I'm getting done post practice and it's basically by the time you're getting done working it's it's about time for kickoff.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: So do I want to go.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: have a barg or two and some Fleming on tacos and watch it.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: It was buffalo Miami actually that was was the game that I watched at the Santa Clara Plus dough and head.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to remember tonight ordered I think ordered two and then ordered two more tacos or it was it was so good and yeah I love the marks too so all right.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: I said I wasn't going to do that shameless.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm shameless.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a shameless guy.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: I did it.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's legitimate.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know it.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: I pre-date your sponsorship with my love for Questel.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's a true story.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you do.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: And you didn't even know that they provide that they were presenting you today.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then you found that out right before we start recording.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: I know that's like Christmas morning.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: You can go spend the money at Questel.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's like Christmas morning, man.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was amazing.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right, JD, have a great trip to New York.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: Where the turf is different than the last time that I'm just were there.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure if it's better, but it's different.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, do what that what you will.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: Different turf than Houston, Houston uses, the Texans have the same turf as so-fi, different brand.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's not field turf brand.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's some of the brand out of like Atlanta.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the Niners have liked that turf more than the turf that they what last played on in 2020, but it's not that turf anymore, so it really doesn't matter.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we think.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I mean, until until they lose somebody significant on Sunday.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: Let's, I wouldn't mind the giant's trading a defensive line, but before the game.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Serano Margarita, by the way.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Serano Margarita, and I just
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it does.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it does.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: We use it.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: Which is phenomenal.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: We use it.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Love that Marga.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's the go to Marga for your guy at Puesto.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then, yeah.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then the short rib.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: Buria.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: In the case of, oh, the short rib.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's my other go to the melted cheese.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's amazing.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: The melted crispy just that's the Mexico City style.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right, thanks, Judy.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: Shameless.
