- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another little German adventure? Luna: I am so ready. But first, I have to say – the weather outside is getting so nice. It feels like spring is finally here. Lucas: Oh, that's perfect timing. Because today, we're talking about the seasons in German. And if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with German, you know how these little episodes add up. Luna: Absolutely. And if you're enjoying the show, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Every bit helps keep this podcast going, ad-free. Lucas: No pressure at all, but it does mean a lot to us. Anyway, back to the seasons. So, spring in German is der Frühling. Luna: Der Frühling. Lucas: Der Frühling. Nice and clear. And summer is der Sommer. Luna: Der Sommer. Lucas: Perfect. Autumn is der Herbst. Luna: Der Herbst. That one sounds a bit like 'harvest', which makes sense. Lucas: It does. And winter is der Winter. Luna: Der Winter. Okay, I've got these. Spring, summer, autumn, winter – der Frühling, der Sommer, der Herbst, der Winter. Lucas: You've got them. Now, let's put them into a simple sentence. How about 'Im Frühling blühen die Blumen' – in spring, the flowers bloom. Luna: Im Frühling blühen die Blumen. That's lovely. So 'im' is like 'in the', right? Lucas: Exactly. 'Im' is a contraction of 'in dem'. So you say 'im Frühling', 'im Sommer', 'im Herbst', 'im Winter'. Luna: Im Sommer, im Herbst, im Winter. Got it. Lucas: Now, how about asking what season we're in? You can say 'Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt?' – which season is it now? Luna: Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt? That's a mouthful. Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt? Lucas: Slowly: Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt? Luna: Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt? Lucas: Perfect. So if someone asks you that, you could answer 'Es ist Frühling' – it's spring. Luna: Es ist Frühling. Simple. So, Lucas, if I ask you 'Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt?', what would you say? Lucas: Es ist Frühling, because it's April. And in spring, everything is blooming. I love it. Luna: Me too. Let's practice a couple more. 'Im Sommer' – what do you like to do? Lucas: Im Sommer gehe ich oft schwimmen. But we learned swimming in a previous episode, didn't we? Luna: We did. And I remember 'morgen' and 'gestern' from the time episodes. So, 'Im Winter' – what do you do? Lucas: Im Winter trinke ich heiße Schokolade. That's hot chocolate, by the way. But that's a phrase for another day. Luna: Heiße Schokolade. Sounds wonderful. Let me try a whole sentence: Im Frühling blühen die Blumen. Lucas: Perfect. You said it exactly right. And you know what, there's a little tip – when you say 'im Frühling', the word 'Frühling' has a nice, bright feel, just like the season. Luna: That's true. It sounds fresh. Okay, let's review the seasons one more time: der Frühling, der Sommer, der Herbst, der Winter. Lucas: And to ask the season: Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt? Luna: Welche Jahreszeit ist jetzt? And to answer: Es ist Frühling. Lucas: Beautiful. So, as you go about your day, see if you can name the current season in German. Practice makes progress. Luna: And don't forget to check out our website for more practice – but no pressure. See you next time! Lucas: Bis bald! That's 'see you soon' – and it's a great way to end. Keep learning, and we'll chat again soon.
