- 2:43Sunny mornings send you. Power from a long -awaited
- 2:49renewable energy transmission line is now flowing
- 2:52from Quebec to Massachusetts. At a statehouse
- 2:56ceremony, Governor Maura Healey celebrated the
- 2:59completion of the New England Clean Energy Connect
- 3:02line with a symbolic flipping of a giant power
- 3:05switch. This line is expected to provide the
- 3:08Commonwealth with nearly 20 % of its overall
- 3:11electricity and save ratepayers money. State
- 3:16officials estimate that electric customers can
- 3:18expect to save around $18 to $20 a year, depending
- 3:23on the utility provider. Cumulatively, the project
- 3:27is anticipated to reduce rate -payer bills by
- 3:30around $50 million each year. Now onto sports.
- 3:41The Hoosiers are national champions. In Miami
- 3:44Gardens, Florida, Fernando Mendoza showcased
- 3:47his skills, executing a remarkable touchdown
- 3:50for Indiana University, sealing a 27 -21 victory
- 3:55over Miami, and completing an undefeated season.
- 3:59Mendoza's pivotal 12 -yard touchdown run defined
- 4:01the game, contributing to his impressive 186
- 4:06yards passing. With a perfect 16 -0 record, Indiana
- 4:10celebrates a championship that marks a significant
- 4:13turnaround for a program long burdened by losses.
- 4:18Signe reflected on the achievement, calling it
- 4:21one of the greatest sports stories of all time.
- 4:25In local sports, the Boston Celtics faced a narrow
- 4:29defeat against the Detroit Pistons with a final
- 4:32score of 104 to 103 on Monday night. Tobias Harris
- 4:38led the Pistons with 25 points, while Jalen Brown
- 4:42narrowly missed a buzzer beater. Brown put up
- 4:4532 points on 11 of 28 shooting for the Celtics.
- 4:50Jalen Durin contributed 18 points and 9 rebounds
- 4:53for Detroit, while Kate Cunningham had 16 points
- 4:57and 14 assists. Both Brown and Cunningham were
- 5:01named All -Star starters earlier yesterday. The
- 5:05Celtics will host the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
- 5:10In top news, San Francisco will offer free childcare
- 5:14to families earning less than $230 ,000 a year
- 5:18and a 50 % subsidy to those earning up to $310
- 5:23,000 in an effort to make the city more affordable.
- 5:27Mayor Daniel Lurie announced this initiative
- 5:29as part of his Family Opportunity Agenda. stating
- 5:33it aims to reduce living costs for families by
- 5:36tens of thousands of dollars annually. The program
- 5:39is funded by unspent tax dollars from Proposition
- 5:42C, providing access to over 500 child care providers
- 5:46citywide. This measure is expected to significantly
- 5:50help families amidst the affordability crisis.
- 5:55In business news... President Donald Trump has
- 5:58proposed a 10 % cap on credit card interest rates
- 6:02to address affordability concerns before the
- 6:05midterm elections. However, banks have pushed
- 6:08back, arguing that this cap could reduce access
- 6:11to credit, especially for those with lower credit
- 6:14scores. Currently, credit card interest rates
- 6:17average about 22%, and implementing such a cap
- 6:21would likely require legislation from Congress.
- 6:24A study from Vandergilt University suggests that
- 6:27a 10 % cap could save consumers $100 billion
- 6:31annually. Banks may reduce rewards programs to
- 6:35offset profit losses, but many analysts believe
- 6:38consumers would still benefit overall. In crypto
- 6:42movement, Bitcoin is down 1 % to about $92 ,000.

- 7:45back to the show. Let's talk tech. General Motors
- 7:50Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra says people
- 7:53aren't plugging in their plug -in hybrids, which
- 7:56defeats their whole purpose. Plug -in hybrid
- 7:59vehicles might be even less fuel -efficient than
- 8:02gas -only cars when owners do not plug them in.
- 8:05Barra noted at a conference that most plug -in
- 8:08hybrid owners do not charge their vehicles, leading
- 8:11to concerns about their environmental benefits.
- 8:14In United States, transportation is the largest
- 8:18source of greenhouse gas emissions, making the
- 8:20transition to electric vehicles crucial. Research
- 8:24shows that plug -in hybrids may produce significantly
- 8:27higher carbon dioxide emissions than official
- 8:30estimates suggest. Matthew McConaughey is taking
- 8:39a novel legal approach to combat unauthorized
- 8:42artificial intelligence fakes by trademarking
- 8:45himself. Over the past several months, the interstellar
- 8:49and Magic Mike star has had eight trademark applications
- 8:52approved by the United States Patent and Trademark
- 8:55Office. His attorney stated the trademarks are
- 8:59meant to stop artificial intelligence applications
- 9:01or users. from simulating McConaughey's voice
- 9:04or likeness without permission. McConaughey said,
- 9:12His lawyers hope these trademarks can deter unauthorized
- 9:20duplications of him in a world grappling with
- 9:22artificial intelligence misuse. Well, alrighty
- 9:27folks, it's time for the quote of the day. And
