Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #121 - Did Joe Rogan Just Convert to Christianity?
Transcript
- 0:00So did Joe Rogan just become a Christian without anybody else noticing?
- 0:05I was watching the podcast that he had the other week with Cody Tucker.
- 0:10He sat down with him and had their whole, you know, three hour to four hour conversation.
- 0:15And I watched most of it, but this one, I did not get to this point.
- 0:20And I'm just seeing clips of things that Joe said about Jesus that just caught
- 0:24me off guard. Did he just become a Christian?
- 0:27And I didn't notice it. did you notice it?
- 0:30My name is Brandon Fogle. This is Evolution. Let's dive into this.
- 0:34This completely caught me off guard.
- 0:37Like I said, I, I watch most of his podcasts. I listened to them depending on
- 0:41a lot of time who the guest is.
- 0:43I, and this one was really good. Cody Tucker sat down, he got one on the show
- 0:47and they talked about a lot of different things.
- 0:49I made it about halfway through and then went on to another one of his podcasts
- 0:53or another something else, you know, But I'm going to show you a clip of something
- 0:57he said in their discussion and talking about this universe that we find ourselves in.
- 1:03Even if you are a naturalist, a pure naturalist, and you think that everything
- 1:07has a reasonable, rational explanation for it, and there's just laws that just
- 1:14govern this universe that we're in.
- 1:16They threw out the whole this eternally existed.
- 1:20I don't even think that's on the table anymore.
- 1:23This universe did not eternally exist.
- 1:25But now anyone that is even a scientist worth their salt understands that there
- 1:32was a beginning, and we have the Big Bang Theory.
- 1:35Joe and Cody, they're talking about this, and they're saying...
- 1:38Even you got to accept some miracle that we all came from nothing and this all
- 1:45just exploded into a universe that just was working perfectly together and is
- 1:50in tune and everybody just,
- 1:53develops consciousness and all that.
- 1:55There had to been some miracle and he and Joe lands on, I think it's more reasonable
- 2:01and rational, more rational to put your faith in Jesus. At least he says,
- 2:06I'm sticking with Jesus.
- 2:07Let's take a look at this clip. It is wild.
- 2:10Because if it's just something, if it's just the nature of everything,
- 2:14there is always something, right?
- 2:16Right. It couldn't be nothing. And then all of a sudden, everything.
- 2:20That seems... Because what started that? What kicked that off?
- 2:23Exactly. What snapped its fingers?
- 2:24That's McKenna's great line. Terrence McKenna had a great line about the difference
- 2:28between science and religion is that science only asks you for one miracle.
- 2:32I want you to believe in one miracle, the Big Bang. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:36That's a good one. It's a great line. It's because it really is true.
- 2:39And it's funny because people would be incredulous about the resurrection of
- 2:43Jesus Christ, but yet they're convinced that the entire universe was smaller than the head of a pen.
- 2:49And for no reason than anybody's adequately explained to me. It makes sense.
- 2:55It's detainously became everything. Yeah. Okay. I can't buy that.
- 3:00I'm sticking with Jesus on that one.
- 3:02Jesus makes more sense. It makes a hell of a lot more sense. There you have it.
- 3:08I'm sticking with Jesus. Jesus makes more sense.
- 3:12That is from at least from where Joe has come to now. He is constantly talking about Jesus.
- 3:18Every pretty much every podcast he has, the topic gets brought up.
- 3:23And Joe used to be hostile to Christianity. He made fun of it.
- 3:27He thought it was stupid.
- 3:28And I think that is reasonable. That is reasonable to be hostile to Christianity, to think it is stupid.
- 3:36And if you're not, then you're really not being honest with yourself because
- 3:40the Bible makes it clear.
- 3:41It says to the foolish or to the natural person, this whole thing about the
- 3:47cross and Jesus being crucified and him dying for our sins, that's foolishness.
- 3:52It's stupidity. So I think Job was just being honest as any person is.
- 3:57You either, you got to come to at least put that wall down and say, is it reasonable or not?
- 4:04And Joe made it clear. He said it was stupid. I could not get on board with
- 4:08Jesus and all this is all myth and all and all made up fantasy and all that.
- 4:13But now he's like, if we come to the point, I think it's a lot of him having
- 4:17Jordan Peterson on and a lot of different people,
- 4:20Wes Huff coming on and talking about Christ and just the logical nature of everything
- 4:24in the Bible and archaeology just supports it.
- 4:28It seems like every turn of the spade, it supports what the Bible has put down
- 4:33for thousands of years for us. It just upholds it.
- 4:36Everything that we find in history eventually comes out that the Bible was correct.
- 4:42And we can't say everything right now. There's an answer for everything because
- 4:46there is seemingly contradictions at points in the Bible. And I get that.
- 4:51But just probabilistically, it seems like every century, something more comes
- 4:58out that it becomes more rational to believe.
- 5:02And I think just Joe being willing
- 5:05to listen and sit in and hear about all this, you got to come from it.
- 5:11Like, even if you don't believe in Christ or the Bible, this,
- 5:14that we're all even here is a miracle.
- 5:17It's all a miracle one way or the other.
- 5:20We can't explain it. And I, I listened to Joe Tucker Carlson,
- 5:24who he had, he had a well-known scientists
- 5:27or last week on there was that cannot think
- 5:31of it immediately let me actually look it up
- 5:34because i actually did a video last week about it
- 5:37and i can't think of who it was tucker
- 5:39carlson i'll probably i'll look at it and i'll find it next time let me just
- 5:44look it up let me just look it up i'm gonna take a second but everything they
- 5:47talked about i'm having a moment that's who it was brett weinstein i did a video
- 5:52of about it last night last week and i can't remember I couldn't remember who the name of who it was.
- 5:58Brett Weinstein is a very well-respected scientist, you know,
- 6:04biologist in all accounts and just knows this stuff in and out.
- 6:08And Tucker kept pressing him over and over about belief in all this and like,
- 6:14where'd we all come from?
- 6:15And because Brett doesn't believe in God and Tucker's like, well, can you explain it?
- 6:21And it comes down to, no, I can't. And nobody can know.
- 6:25And, And every time that Brett, like he gives a very good, smart,
- 6:29like articulate descriptions of how everything happens in the evolutionary process
- 6:35and how this world functions together.
- 6:37But he can't explain how did this all spring into existence? How did it all happen?
- 6:43And I think that is the struggle that Joe has. And he's having because no one,
- 6:49he says, no one's been able to rationally be able to explain it to me so that
- 6:54it makes sense. We cannot know. Nobody can know how this all came into existence.
- 6:58So by default, it seems like the best explanation and the most rational place
- 7:07to put one's faith is Christ.
- 7:09Because they're asking, in naturalistic understanding, it's all about you have
- 7:15to believe in something. Something put all this into motion.
- 7:19So that in itself is a miracle. So you still have to accept a miracle.
- 7:23And if one miracle can happen, why couldn't all these other miracles happen?
- 7:29If God is over nature and he's the one who's put in the laws of nature,
- 7:33why cannot he suspend his laws at time? And I think that is where Joe is at.
- 7:39And to me, it's just, I'm always very interested in the journey of Joe because,
- 7:44and I, and even listen to him and Jordan Peterson as they talk about Christ
- 7:49and talk about all this stuff and Tucker.
- 7:51At the end of the day, somebody, it's not a matter of assent.
- 7:56I intellectually believe that Jesus is the most rational explanation for everything.
- 8:01And it is the safest place to put my faith because at the end of the day,
- 8:05everybody is putting their faith in something.
- 8:07You're putting your faith in something, but it is not enough to just assent
- 8:11and intellectually agree that Jesus is true.
- 8:15The resurrection happened. The Bible is correct.
- 8:18You know, all that, you know, but I think that is a hurdle that you have to
- 8:22get past before you can actually surrender to Christ,
- 8:26because you have to be fully in and bought into who Jesus is. You have to sell all.
- 8:34And give yourself to Christ to be his. But where Joe is at in him intellectually
- 8:38assenting and saying, yeah, Jesus is the most reliable place to put one's faith
- 8:45because the other way you still have to accept miracles.
- 8:47And all that I'm hearing about Jesus, I'm siding with Jesus.
- 8:51I'm siding with Jesus. So it's like I had to get past the intellectual things
- 8:56in myself. I could not get on board with who Christ was and all that. I had to get past that.
- 9:02I could not check my brain at the door and give my life to Jesus without understanding
- 9:09that he actually really existed and there was reliable evidence for his resurrection.
- 9:17And if his resurrection happened, that changes everything.
- 9:21And I think Joe is there. I think he's there, but it's still a heart issue and
- 9:26it's still a supernatural issue.
- 9:28I cannot stress this enough. It's not that somebody, people out there,
- 9:32oh, I'm going to believe in Jesus today.
- 9:35I'm going to believe in him. I'm just going to change my whole mindset and believe in him.
- 9:40And just believing and thinking something is true is not enough.
- 9:44You have to give yourself fully to him.
- 9:47And I think Joe is getting closer and closer to that.
- 9:52I think he, God is the only one that knows. God's the only one that can really
- 9:56open his heart to receive Christ. But man, it's like...
- 10:01If it's this powerful, and he's saying this, there's been so many atheists and
- 10:06people that were against the Bible and against Christ throughout history.
- 10:10People that tried to destroy and deny Jesus and the resurrection.
- 10:16C.S. Lewis was one. He was an atheist. He did not want Christianity to be true.
- 10:26He did not want it. Because in his viewpoint, if Jesus, this is true,
- 10:32if there is a God, then there is no door marked exit.
- 10:37I can't get out. I can't punch out and somehow escape.
- 10:41He's there. He's what we got to deal with.
- 10:45Whether we want to end ourselves or we don't know what's going to happen tomorrow,
- 10:49if we did end ourself, we would just be standing in his presence.
- 10:54We would just be before him.
- 10:57This whole curtain that is up, that is our life, and this world that we see
- 11:01would just be pulled down and we would see him face-to-face,
- 11:06even though he is face-to-face right now with us.
- 11:09There's just a veil over all our eyes. We just don't see him.
- 11:13And that was what terrified C.S. Lewis.
- 11:15And it is terrifying. But until you understand that this consuming fire that
- 11:20is God is also pure love, he loves more than you could ever imagine loving someone.
- 11:28You know what I mean? He is, so he is a safe place to put your, your faith.
- 11:34And I think Joe is getting there and I hope he gets there fully.
- 11:38All right. Well, if you've liked this video, make sure you smash that like button,
