- 0:02Bob: Welcome to this episode of the justice team podcast
- 0:05on the justice team network.
- 0:06I am Bob Simon, your host today, and we are honored to
- 0:09have the Bryce else on Bryce.
- 0:12What's up, my bro?
- 0:13Brice: That would be me.
- 0:13My man.
- 0:14Everything's good.
- 0:15It's always good.
- 0:16Bob: So today we're going to be talking.
- 0:17Bryce is known in the community as coach Bryce coach else.
- 0:22Um, so we're going to talk about the principles of coaching.
- 0:24Bryce has.
- 0:25Mentored a lot of youth in the Compton and greater Los Angeles area.
- 0:29He has coached basketball at a high level.
- 0:32He actually coached in the WNBA.
- 0:33Is that right?
- 0:34When it first started.
- 0:35I was one of the
- 0:35Brice: initial, initial coaches when it first started.
- 0:38Yes.
- 0:39Bob: And, uh, Bryce also played professional baseball.
- 0:42What a career.
- 0:42Could
- 0:44Brice: write a book.
- 0:44Bob: Could write a book.
- 0:45And then It may sell two copies too.
- 0:47Well, me and someone else will buy that book, I guess.
- 0:50But Bryce also, um, is the owner of a company called Law Firm
- 0:54Rides with he and his wife, Ellen.
- 0:56Our firm uses them for transportation for our clients and our lawyers So
- 1:00we're going to talk to bryce about things that he sees with lawyers in
- 1:03cars lawyers and clients in cars and some do's and don'ts Um from the real
- 1:07perspective on the real Absolutely.
- 1:10So Bryce, what are some things that you think, cause you've seen a lot of
- 1:14trials, you've observed a lot because of what you do and you've been in
- 1:17this, this, this game for a long time.
- 1:20What are some applications that you think when you, when you're
- 1:23teaching youth sports, what are some things that principles of
- 1:25coaching that apply to, to lawyering?
- 1:28Brice: Um, that's a great question.
- 1:30One of the things I believe you can connect it to is from,
- 1:34uh, just leadership skills.
- 1:36You know, as a coach, uh, you have to be trusted as an attorney.
- 1:42You have to be trusted.
- 1:44I've seen, uh, you know, some clients and they're kind of a little fearful when
- 1:47they're going in and then when the trust factor builds in and there's a connection,
- 1:52it works out really well for the client.
- 1:54You can see the relaxation come upon the client.
- 1:58Bob: Yeah.
- 1:58And have you seen any, have you been in situations where you think
- 2:02the client trust is not there with the lawyer that you're observing
- 2:06and, and how does that play out?
- 2:08Brice: I've seen that as well.
- 2:10I mean, yes, I've seen that as well, where You know, the, uh, client
- 2:14has a, a fear factor of we're not doing what the attorney's not,
- 2:19doesn't have their best interests.
- 2:21For instance, they don't return their phone calls.
- 2:24They're asking questions and they can't get answers.
- 2:26They're calling the office and there's no response.
- 2:30It's taken them, you know, hours and days and sometimes
- 2:33even weeks to get back to them.
- 2:35And so that's where the distrust comes in.
- 2:37Bob: Yeah.
- 2:38Cause you, your company, um, and before you started your
- 2:41company, you were driving for.
- 2:43For law firms as well, like you take a lot of clients to medical appointments.
- 2:46We
- 2:47Brice: take a lot of clients, with a lot of head
- 2:49Bob: trauma,
- 2:50Brice: back issues, and different things like that.
- 2:52So we're, we're tied in there.
- 2:55So we hear and see a lot.
- 2:57But one thing for sure, what happens in the backseat, what's said in the
- 3:01backseat, stays in the backseat.
- 3:03I
- 3:03Bob: like that, that's uh, Very Vegas y, Bryce.
- 3:08But I mean, but that's, I mean, it's all the confidentiality
- 3:11and stuff that goes with it.
- 3:12But what are some things, you know, we don't have to name names
- 3:14or talk specifics, but what, what, what can lawyers do better?
- 3:18I mean, you were in the car with people that are catastrophically injured,
- 3:21going through surgery, and you hear the complaints and things that they say.
- 3:24What are some things if lawyers and law firms are out there
- 3:27listening, what could we do better?
- 3:29Brice: I believe it's just more of a communication.
- 3:31Thank you.
- 3:32Sometimes you have to just literally hold their hand every step of the way.
- 3:37If we can hold their hand and again, just like coaching, if you can hold their
- 3:41hand and make them believe that you have their best interest at heart, if you
- 3:47can tie those two things together, Yeah.
- 3:52Bob: Another thing that I think you do very well, you know, you started
- 3:55organizations for youth sports, but you also build community within the community.
- 3:59Absolutely.
- 4:00So, you know, how, and I think that's important in the legal industry.
- 4:03What are some things that you've done?
- 4:04Cause with your community roots, um, it's almost like you're an activist in the
- 4:08area and everybody knows who you are.
- 4:10Like I've been in the car with price and people just coach Bryce.
- 4:13What's up?
- 4:13Like we were at, um.
- 4:15Proto where the hologram place remember?
- 4:17Oh, yeah.
- 4:18John Sally was there the spider.
- 4:19He's like coach Bryce, you know, there's just touched so many
- 4:22lives But but how do you think how do you inspire that community
- 4:26building even whenever it you know?
- 4:28It's it's very tough to do where you're dealing with kids and we're dealing
- 4:31with clients that have or in a bad home situation Like how do you pull that out?
- 4:36Brice: You
- 4:36Bob: know,
- 4:36Brice: it goes back to the word trust People have to know that you're there
- 4:42for them period And again that it all ties in together if they trust
- 4:46you that you have their best interest at heart Then you can get them to
- 4:52do and believe anything Don't lie.
- 4:56Bob: Don't lie.
- 4:57Brice: Don't lie.
- 4:57Bob: And that's what um, you know with lawyers out there.
- 5:00I think communications Paramount even if it's as simple as sending a text
- 5:05message a week to check in on folks And you know, a lot of us, if you don't,
- 5:10you're not comfortable giving out your cell phone number, I know I do, but
- 5:12if not, you could do it through your case management platform and you can
- 5:14track the communications between your client, ask them how they're feeling.
- 5:18That goes a long way.
- 5:19Brice: That goes a long way.
- 5:20And it's funny you say that because, uh, even some of the attorneys that
- 5:23I drive, I shoot them a text message, just to say, hi, say, how you doing?
- 5:28You're in town again.
- 5:29Give me a call.
- 5:30I do that with the clients and I give them my cell phone number.
- 5:34You can call me anytime.
- 5:35And you can call me at three o'clock in the morning.
- 5:38I'm coming.
- 5:39Bob: It's funny.
- 5:39I have been in the car with Bryce at three o'clock in the morning, whenever
- 5:42I've had a few, two drinks and it's very entertaining for him, but he will
- 5:46be on the phone with the next player.
- 5:47That's maybe 30 years old now and has a life situation.
- 5:51And that's the kind of trust that, that you've instilled
- 5:53from that leadership position.
- 5:55I love my players.
- 5:57Brice: I love them.
- 5:57Like they're my biological kids.
- 6:00I have kids.
- 6:02I can't even count how many kids I have.
- 6:04I love them.
- 6:04And again, if they know that you, that you genuinely care for them, they're
- 6:10going to continue to reach out to you.
- 6:12And I'm, I'm so fortunate and blessed that that happens.
- 6:15Bob: Yeah.
- 6:15And then you have the network effect, you know, especially for us and what we do.
- 6:19If you take care of people, they tell everybody that you take care of them.
- 6:22They give you their numbers so that you have more clients, but it all comes
- 6:25from earning that trust and doing the right thing and doing right by them.
- 6:29Absolutely.
- 6:29Brice: You have to do right.
- 6:30And again,
- 6:31Bob: Don't
- 6:31Brice: lie, be honest and be truthful, be above board.
- 6:35If you have those things going on for yourself, you'll go a long way.
- 6:40I've, I've gotten a lot of doors opened for me and I, I believe
- 6:45it's because I try to be truthful.
- 6:48Bob: Yeah.
- 6:48And then what are some things that you've seen lawyers do, whether in your
- 6:53car or things that you've seen or heard that are some missteps that you think?
- 6:59Brice: Everything.
- 7:00Communication, when you don't communicate with people and someone
- 7:05doesn't know what to expect from you, then that's a, that's a problem.
- 7:10Because everyone wants to be, feel
- 7:13Bob: as though they're the most important
- 7:15Brice: thing.
- 7:15Bob: What are some?
- 7:18Rude things or any pet peeves of yours that that people do in your
- 7:21car When you're working with them.
- 7:24Yes in the front seat.
- 7:26Brice: I always sit in the front seat.
- 7:27Well, no, that doesn't count You don't know but yeah when people
- 7:31sit in the front seat Yeah, that's just a pet peeve of mine.
- 7:36Bob: It's more of an intimate type thing and you don't have your And I really
- 7:39Brice: don't know them.
- 7:41I mean, you know, when they sit in the front seat and you really
- 7:43don't know them, it can be sticky.
- 7:46But for the most part, everybody's my friend, so front
- 7:50Bob: seat's always open.
- 7:52Well, I love it.
- 7:53And you know, for those of you who don't know Coach Bryce, he literally
- 7:56has started a company and a lot of his friends work for the company now,
- 8:00a lot of people in the community, so people that He is mentored or his
- 8:04friends circle are within the company.
- 8:06I think that's the trust factor whenever You whenever I call your company and
- 8:09it's if it's not bryce and usually does a lot with us and our family But every
- 8:13single person from richard to barbara to aaron, etc Just a fantastic human
- 8:18beings that generally care about you that we trust our clients with and I think
- 8:22that's a huge thing because whenever You know us lawyers out there if you're
- 8:26providing transportation for your clients getting to and from doctor's appointments
- 8:30That's a very special thing Right.
- 8:32They have to have a white glove service and they have to obviously be on time,
- 8:36but that likability trust factor.
- 8:38Right.
- 8:39Brice: We're going to treat you like you're our own because you are our own.
- 8:43You are family to us and that's how we view everyone.
- 8:48You're family and you're getting to and from your destination safely.
- 8:53That's our goal and we want you to call us again.
- 8:57Bob: Um, so the last question for you.
- 8:58Well, two questions.
- 9:00Are the Dodgers going to win the World Series and are the Lakers
- 9:02going to win the NBA championship 2024 2025 season for the Lakers?
- 9:08Brice: The Dodgers will win before I pass away.
- 9:13And LeBron,
- 9:14Bob: he's not going to make it, not going to make it, not going to make it.
- 9:18I think him and Bronny, I think LeBron's gonna, Lead the league and assist this
- 9:21year to a son, just like the Griffey's did, you know, that kind of handover.
- 9:25Brice: He's going to lead the league and assist because he's
- 9:27going to take his son to, they may go to a Denny's or something too.
- 9:31That's about it.
- 9:32Bob: Not going anywhere else.
- 9:33Hard to hear from Coach Ellis.
- 9:36Brice: Bryce, how do people get ahold of you?
- 9:38You can always reach me at, uh, you can go to law firm rides.
- 9:41You go to our website, lawfirmrides.
- 9:43com and you can find us there, info.
- 9:45And you can reach me on my cell.
- 9:47I get my cell out to everybody.
- 9:49I'm going to answer 310 704 8954.
- 9:53Give me a call.
- 9:54I promise I'll pick up
- 9:56Bob: and I'll be on my way.
- 9:57I love it.
