Latest / The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show / Buck Brief - The Shady “Decoy Dan” Scheme Rocking Alaska’s Senate Race
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Is this the dirtiest political trick the Democrats have pulled
- 0:05Speaker 1: in my lifetime? I'm talking about the Alaska Senate race.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Things up there are just getting filthy. Fresh New York
- 0:14Speaker 1: Times reporting confirms what we on Clay and Buck Radio
- 0:18Speaker 1: and elsewhere have been saying for months, which is that
- 0:20Speaker 1: a Democratic operative or a number of them rather ran
- 0:24Speaker 1: a deliberate investigation. ballot composition project, that's what they called it,
- 0:29Speaker 1: to stack Alaska's ranked choice ballot and siphon votes from
- 0:32Speaker 1: the incumbent, Senator Dan S. Sullivan, the real Dan Sullivan,
- 0:39Speaker 1: if you will. And this is blowing the story up
- 0:44Speaker 1: even beyond what we know, because now it's clear what
- 0:48Speaker 1: we assumed had happened was in fact what happened. You
- 0:51Speaker 1: had a bunch of Democrat operatives decide, hey, we can
- 0:55Speaker 1: do something really nasty by finding a random person named
- 1:00Speaker 1: Dan Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, to run because of ranked choice voting.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It would make it complicated. And you don't remember. It's
- 1:08Speaker 1: not that this is Dan Sullivan v. Dan Sullivan. This
- 1:10Speaker 1: isn't two guys going head to head. The point is
- 1:14Speaker 1: senior citizens, people with maybe not the best eyesight, people
- 1:18Speaker 1: who might get a little nervous in the polling station.
- 1:22Speaker 1: They may just make an error, and you only need
- 1:24Speaker 1: a couple thousand of them to make the error to
- 1:26Speaker 1: possibly deliver this sentency to Peltola, the Democrat. So that's
- 1:31Speaker 1: what it is. Back in the summer of 2025, a
- 1:35Speaker 1: Peltola campaign staffer was ordered by top aides to comb
- 1:39Speaker 1: voter records and find as many people named Dan Sullivan
- 1:42Speaker 1: in Alaska as you can. That was the goal. Find
- 1:45Speaker 1: as many randos, random individuals named Dan Sullivan as you can.
- 1:49Speaker 1: The goal was pure name confusion on the four-person ballot.
- 1:54Speaker 1: That is all clear based on text messages, eyewitnesses, etc.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And this worked. A retired teacher named Daniel J. Sullivan,
- 2:02Speaker 1: who lived in a tiny fishing village reachable only by
- 2:05Speaker 1: the air or the sea. You can't even drive to
- 2:08Speaker 1: where this guy lives. He entered the race to be
- 2:10Speaker 1: a senator in May, and he's on the November 3rd
- 2:13Speaker 1: general ballot alongside the real Dan Sullivan. and Mary Peltola,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and some long-shot Republican guy named Gerald Heikes. So the
- 2:21Speaker 1: New York Times says, quote, the Peltola campaign has repeatedly
- 2:25Speaker 1: denied any involvement in his candidacy, but the Times found,
- 2:28Speaker 1: based on interviews and text messages, along with documents prepared
- 2:32Speaker 1: for a potential lawsuit by the campaign, that not only
- 2:35Speaker 1: did Ms. Peltola's team work with people trying to recruit Mr.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Sullivan to run for Senate, but the effort was much
- 2:41Speaker 1: broader and The group worked to coax other would-be spoilers
- 2:45Speaker 1: into the race to dilute the incumbent's support and help
- 2:48Speaker 1: catapult the Democrat to victory. End quote. The ballot composition project.
- 2:56Speaker 1: We should call it the ballot compost project because what
- 2:58Speaker 1: they're doing here is total crap. Secret trips to remote
- 3:03Speaker 1: Alaskan communities. Some Democrat operative from the Midwest using a
- 3:08Speaker 1: fake name. pitching candidates over beers at brew pubs. I mean,
- 3:13Speaker 1: this really was skullduggery. And there was an Ohio-based Democrat
- 3:18Speaker 1: operative who's a specialist in shady tactics that was at
- 3:22Speaker 1: the center of this whole thing. He approached these potential
- 3:24Speaker 1: candidates offering outside spending support. So all of a sudden
- 3:28Speaker 1: you get to have a Senate campaign. They're going to
- 3:30Speaker 1: throw a bunch of money at you. That's kind of cool, right?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Significant money. One of them was offered significant money, he says,
- 3:38Speaker 1: to run as an independent. Dan J. Sullivan, decoy Dan,
- 3:43Speaker 1: told the operative that he hated Trump and if it
- 3:45Speaker 1: was going to help Mary, he liked Mary. He didn't
- 3:47Speaker 1: have any interest in being a politician, but if this
- 3:49Speaker 1: could help, he would do it. So the former Paltola
- 3:54Speaker 1: campaign manager, Elisa Rios, confirmed the New York Times that
- 3:58Speaker 1: Paltola was definitely aware of this. Of course she was
- 4:01Speaker 1: aware of this. Of course she was aware of this.
- 4:04Speaker 1: What a scummy thing to do. Let's just take a
- 4:08Speaker 1: moment to take that in. This is about a United
- 4:11Speaker 1: States Senate seat. This shouldn't just be some sick joke.
- 4:15Speaker 1: But this is the way Democrats view things. If they
- 4:18Speaker 1: can get away with something incredibly shady, incredibly dishonest that
- 4:22Speaker 1: increases their power, they're absolutely willing to do it. There's
- 4:28Speaker 1: also a dark money angle here. Wisconsin-based super PAC right
- 4:32Speaker 1: for Alaska. which is tied to the progressive 1630 fund,
- 4:37Speaker 1: spent big money promoting Decoy Dan and other spoilers while
- 4:41Speaker 1: attacking the real Dan Sullivan. They've put over a million
- 4:45Speaker 1: dollars into this. So this isn't just about operatives in Alaska.
- 4:49Speaker 1: This has now become a national apparatus of the Democrats'
- 4:54Speaker 1: effort to confuse things and to try and really purloin
- 5:01Speaker 1: a Senate seat The ballot reality here is in the
- 5:05Speaker 1: ranked choice systems, voters rank up to four. Name confusion
- 5:09Speaker 1: is the point, especially with similar middle initials and both
- 5:13Speaker 1: filing as Republican-ish. So remember, you're not just choosing one.
- 5:18Speaker 1: You are ranking all of the names. So all you
- 5:22Speaker 1: have to do is mix up the names that you're
- 5:26Speaker 1: trying to rank. You have to click for it. You
- 5:28Speaker 1: have to put multiple people. Ranked choice voting is idiotic,
- 5:32Speaker 1: by the way. That's a whole other thing. And this
- 5:35Speaker 1: is a 51-49 or 50-50 race right now between the
- 5:40Speaker 1: real contenders, Dan Sullivan and Mary Peltola. All the different
- 5:48Speaker 1: polling shows it within a point or two. So Alaska,
- 5:51Speaker 1: of course, went plus 13 for President Trump. But because
- 5:55Speaker 1: of the ballot games here and the fact that this
- 5:58Speaker 1: is in pure toss-up territory, This could be it. I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 1: this could end up being a, unfortunately, a very successful
- 6:11Speaker 1: act of political skullduggery. And I understand people are upset
- 6:16Speaker 1: and they want there to be some legal ramifications for this.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I keep coming back to, I don't think it's illegal.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I think that it's in bad faith. I think that
- 6:27Speaker 1: it's gross. I think that anybody with a brain should
- 6:31Speaker 1: vote against the Democrat now just as a protest against
- 6:35Speaker 1: this kind of tactic. But you'd have to tell me
- 6:40Speaker 1: what law has been violated. There's not just a law
- 6:43Speaker 1: against you can't be a scumbag in politics, because if
- 6:45Speaker 1: that was the case, we would have very few, if any,
- 6:47Speaker 1: politicians left, maybe a handful. Right. There's no way that
- 6:53Speaker 1: you can just wave a magic wand and decide that
- 6:56Speaker 1: this is somehow, first of all, they took it to court.
- 6:59Speaker 1: They tried and they lost. And now I hear people
- 7:02Speaker 1: are saying, well, if the margin of victory, the DOJ,
- 7:05Speaker 1: the Trump DOJ is bringing a legal action saying if
- 7:07Speaker 1: the margin of victory is less than meaning Peltola wins
- 7:12Speaker 1: over the real Dan Sullivan and the fake decoy Dan
- 7:16Speaker 1: Sullivan guy gets near or at or more than the
- 7:20Speaker 1: margin of victory, then They they want to refuse to
- 7:26Speaker 1: accept that Senate, you know, to to seat that senator
- 7:29Speaker 1: essentially to accept the results of that election. I don't
- 7:32Speaker 1: think they're going to be able to do that. I
- 7:34Speaker 1: think this went up to the Supreme Court, even I
- 7:36Speaker 1: think that they would say it's gross, but it's legal. Unfortunately,
- 7:40Speaker 1: in our society, there are a lot of things that
- 7:42Speaker 1: are gross, but legal for anyone who's going to tell
- 7:44Speaker 1: me that that is wrong. OK, point to the statute
- 7:49Speaker 1: and tell me how this fits into. You'd have to
- 7:52Speaker 1: really say now, I think a crime. What is the crime?
- 7:56Speaker 1: This guy is lawfully allowed to be on the ballot.
- 8:00Speaker 1: His name is legally and has been legally Dan Sullivan
- 8:04Speaker 1: his whole life. He didn't fabricate that. He's not faking
- 8:08Speaker 1: his name. So as frustrating as it is for all
- 8:12Speaker 1: of us, I don't really see a way to get
- 8:16Speaker 1: around this other than to beat them at the ballot box.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So you've really... I know only some of you live
- 8:20Speaker 1: in a very few of you listening live in Alaska,
- 8:22Speaker 1: but some of you do. You got to make sure
- 8:25Speaker 1: that Alaska doesn't become a laughingstock over this, because that's
- 8:28Speaker 1: what will happen. There will be a sense of ha ha.
- 8:33Speaker 1: We Democrats from the lower 48, the Democrat operative class
- 8:39Speaker 1: will have fooled enough Alaskans into handing away their Senate
- 8:44Speaker 1: representation to this Mary Peltola character. And I just think
- 8:49Speaker 1: that that's a really bad message to send. I think
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's a terrible precedent to send, or to set, rather,
- 8:56Speaker 1: in a situation like this, because this is encouraging more
- 9:02Speaker 1: of this bad behavior. And it is absolutely bad faith.
- 9:05Speaker 1: They do not think, this guy running doesn't even want
- 9:08Speaker 1: to win. He is running purely as a spoiler and
- 9:12Speaker 1: purely to be a confusion candidate And this is why, Alaskans,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you've got to deliver a victory here for the one
- 9:23Speaker 1: and only. You've got to deliver a victory for the
- 9:25Speaker 1: real Dan Sullivan. Otherwise, man, this could be Senate control.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And Senate control, as we know, is extremely important. Our
- 9:35Speaker 1: sponsor here is Incogni. Ever wonder how scammers know your name,
- 9:38Speaker 1: your address, even your relatives' names and addresses? How do
- 9:42Speaker 1: they show up in your email and your text messages?
