- 0:00M Return to Glory podcast Welcome Back, hit It August, head back at
- 0:21twenty four percent battery on his phone and coming off, I heard just a
- 0:27terrific round of golf. How was it terrible? I was hitting it left
- 0:34right nowhere near dead straight. Just terrible day golf. Are you willing to
- 0:41retire? Yeah? I'm done. Well. You told me you had to
- 0:48run about your golf game, and this is what we get. We uh
- 0:52So I the whole day I hit terrible, just the worse. I probably
- 0:58got less no us and eight the rest of the day, besides the last
- 1:02day, the last hole of the day, I hit it right down the
- 1:04middle, got a part. That's all it takes. One good shot makes
- 1:11it a good round of goal. I shot a fifty eight. We lost
- 1:15in the playoffs. We're done. We'll shoot well. I have a random
- 1:23my own and I don't expect there to be any response from this. But
- 1:30this pissed me off and fired me up today, so I gotta get it
- 1:34off my chest before we go into the offense. So I'm listening to a
- 1:41couple of other Husker podcasts and not gonna throw out names, but the typical
- 1:49stupid media of Husker football. Yes, I guess we're included in that,
- 1:53but all of the stupid height and the high expectations. We're getting close to
- 2:00the season and here we are again. This is this is what pissed me
- 2:04off. I'm listening to a stock up or stock down and one of the
- 2:09podcasts was going through about ten to twelve players and saying if their stock was
- 2:16rising or falling. Not one, not one player was there stock falling,
- 2:22not one. Every single player was on the up. I mean, I
- 2:27can't disagree with that. Going down the same fucking path with our media of
- 2:35let's just praise everything. Everything is gonna go great, it's gonna be awesome,
- 2:38awesome, awesome, and then when we start losing or things go south,
- 2:40everybody's gonna be all in their panties in a wad again Jesus Christ.
- 2:47And then on top of that, this is the other side of that.
- 2:51I don't know if either one of you followed corn Husker one on Twitter,
- 2:54if you know who that is. I know who it is, I you
- 2:58know follow I just read the occasional tweet and I don't I don't know.
- 3:02We don't know who the person is. But he was the prime example of
- 3:07actually speaking real. And I will say some of his comments were maybe a
- 3:12little out of line, but he wasn't He wasn't like constantly bashing people.
- 3:15He yeah, he made some comments here or there, but he was being
- 3:20real and just making comments that were the truth of where Husker football is out
- 3:24of a program. And he just got slammed to death on social media by
- 3:29all these Husker fans. He's high expectation people that just get on there,
- 3:36and they flamed him. He finally had enough and he's off of Twitter now.
- 3:40He I saw as like last goodbye wishes, and it's like people that
- 3:45even try to remotely wait, he called it quits for good. Yeah,
- 3:50he said, I'm signing up for Twitter. I am done with Twitter.
- 3:53You mean X Come on, let's get this right, we gotta. I've
- 3:57been meaning to say that our last three episodes of X. So anyways,
- 4:03I just had to throw that out there. Here we go again, of
- 4:06all the positives, and everything is also fine and dandy with our team,
- 4:12and every week great as we had into week one. Right, the Huskers
- 4:16aren't gonna win it all this year. That's what it sounds like that It
- 4:19sounds first back national title. We've won offseason champs for the last twenty years.
- 4:29Probably, Hey, the Huskers have only won it was it two years
- 4:32before the Oklahoma has won their last one, so I can't say much that's
- 4:38true. You've at least been to the playoffs, so yeah, I mean,
- 4:43I mean, yeah, okay, well you've been there. It's funny
- 4:46that you come in with such a scathing Husker media thing. I actually said.
- 4:50The text was that this morning or yesterday where I was getting a little
- 4:55annoyed with coach Osborne. Well, I don't know annoyed the right word,
- 5:01because we can't we can't slander Tom. But no, no, I was
- 5:04pretty I was like, all right, Tom, he made some comment well
- 5:09about recruiting, he basically said, because they asked why Frost failed. He
- 5:15said, well, you know, the previous coaching staff didn't recruit very well,
- 5:17and Covid was in there, but you know, in today's age of
- 5:20what have you done for me now, it just wasn't working. And I
- 5:25was like, Tom, that is not the man. I was so disappointed
- 5:30in Tom. I mean, from the recruiting standpoint, we've sent over the
- 5:38list of our twenty four seven rankings, and we've gone into detail on recruiting
- 5:43before it's not all about the stars. But that's what today's world is is
- 5:46looking at the stars. The problem wasn't matter what stars we get or wherever
- 5:49we're at, we're still not good. Before it Blood he also witting on
- 5:51this, saying he's like, well, have you looked if you looked at
- 5:55the score at then the three quarters almost every season under Frost, you know,
- 5:59he'd probably be one of the best coaches in the country. It's like,
- 6:00yeah, that's the problem. It wasn't the freaking talent on the field.
- 6:04He was so close. It's not about the stars. Case. They
- 6:08just won Big twelve and they get three stars, two stars. That's true.
- 6:12That that is their strategy and their approach, and it has worked over
- 6:15the past few years. I it's weird because the comments again on all this
- 6:24current stuff is rules listening to Osborne. He's talking to Osborne all the time.
- 6:28You know, Frost just didn't listen to him, and these past coaches
- 6:30didn't listen to him, And so it's weird that then Tom makes comments like
- 6:35that, not really defending Frost, but I mean also not slandering him either.
- 6:42I mean that's I guess typical Tom fashion, He's not gonna show any
- 6:46emotion. It is gonna state it as it is. So I don't know.
- 6:51I just the media, and I know we don't have It's not like
- 6:56we have even half or quarters followers some of these other like big time news
- 7:01podcast people. But that's probably because Husker fans are just freaking like that,
- 7:10and that's what they like to listen to. You. They don't like to
- 7:11listen to the real stuff and the reality of where things are at because they
- 7:15think everything's all perfect and then we get down on this trap every year and
- 7:18then we're stuck for twenty years where we have been. How do you really
- 7:24feel, Huney, Yeah, let it out. But I just did,
- 7:32all right, So that started off my research here. But we do have
- 7:39a big topic here to get to and we're gonna talk here for the next
- 7:43half hour or so about the Husker offense and going through our depth chart,
- 7:51talking about this new scheme and system that offensive coordinator. Marcus Satterfield from South
- 7:58Carolina. He was with Rule at Temple for three years from twenty thirteen to
- 8:05fifteen, was the tight ends coach. When Rule is at Baylor went to
- 8:09the Panthers for rules first year and then left and went to South Carolina for
- 8:13the last two years as the OC. He was with the rat Dog Rat
- 8:18Dog Carolina and now he's back with the RULE. Before we jump in the
- 8:24players, I want to ask both of you this question, and there's not
- 8:28a right or wrong answer, but I'm just curious of your thoughts. If
- 8:31you were to become the OC, and awesome will start with you. You
- 8:37were to become the OC DAK the Vikings just scored a touchdown. Hell yeah,
- 8:43cool? If you were the o C for a new Division one,
- 8:48I'll even say Power five college football team, what would be your style or
- 8:54scheme of offense that you were run. I mean, if I get my
- 9:01NFL team building Madden you know two K twenty three, I don't know,
- 9:07is it two K? No, it's just Madden twenty three right, yep.
- 9:13I do love me some good two big tight end sets with them as
- 9:18my primary pass catcher, with one guy who can go deep and a good
- 9:20running back. I am a sucker for those. But modern you probably have
- 9:26a running quarterback with the spread offense. I mean, your job you are,
- 9:31your job is still on the line, and you have you're the OC
- 9:35here for the next three or four years, and you have to build an
- 9:37offensive system around something. Now, what Frost did, We don't freaking know
- 9:43what he did because he had six different things he was trying to do and
- 9:46changing and all this stuff. So that obviously is not the answer. I'm
- 9:50saying. If you would pick one and you in today's time, starting this
- 9:54fall, you were building an offensive scheme or system, what are you running?
- 9:58It's gonna be I read running back wide receivers as my dynamic players with
- 10:03a strong offensive line and big tight ends, and give me a running passing
- 10:07percentage out of a hundred, Uh, it'd probably be pretty close to fifty
- 10:13fifty, maybe fifty five forty five running over passing. But now, no,
- 10:20there's gonna be a lot of those screen screen passes that are mostly runs,
- 10:24but the technically passes. It's it's gonna be a system that doesn't depend
- 10:28on the quarterback, because I don't want to build a system that's depending on
- 10:31the quarterback, because it's so hard to get that right. Okay, Dak,
- 10:35I am so curious to hear that because often ill I, I have
- 10:39a lot of agree agreements there with you in a couple of tweeks, But
- 10:43Dak, I've been interested to hear what you got to say. One cent
- 10:46read option. You have a quarterback that can run, you have speed wide
- 10:52receivers on the outside, you have a big tight end and you just throw
- 10:56and you read, you read defense. You either to run it or you
- 11:00fast it. I don't care. Army man zero zero snaps behind the center
- 11:11under or behind under the center zero under, Yeah, always in the shotgun.
- 11:18Okay, So you're you're more of a spread kind of guy, but
- 11:22a lot of Yeah, So give me an offense that runs that a lot
- 11:26of that right now? That's stick. Okay. I mean i'd say they're
- 11:31more air raid, but I see where you're I mean, there used to
- 11:35be air raid. But we can state last year with Adrian Okay, okay,
- 11:41Austin, what's like a team that you can think of that resembles what
- 11:43you like college football? Yep? So I was thinking like San Francisco is
- 11:50kind of what I was saying. Forty nine ers. Yep, that's that's
- 11:54kind of all my deal system would be. Now, it's easy to point
- 11:56out one of the better offenses in the NFL, but but do you do
- 12:00you guys want ground and pound or because because forty nine ers are kind of
- 12:05depending on the running back, like have good running back, but it's been
- 12:11it's mostly a this guy can run the ball too. It's I would prefer
- 12:16to I would prefer to ground a pound, but that's just not feasible to
- 12:20keep up with offense from my running backs bible to catch the ball and make
- 12:24that still have the pounding, but it's on the outside. Now, Okay,
- 12:30I am very run heavy. And the answer to this question obviously depends
- 12:37on the conference you're in, I think and and what you think is gonna
- 12:41work best. If I'm going Big ten, you're gonna learn how to win
- 12:46close games. You have to. And the Big ten talent pool compared to
- 12:52some of these other conferences is not as rich with athleticism. So Big ten
- 12:58why it is? I mean it is old school Nebraska football in my mind
- 13:03like that that is too. And we're gonna get to this. I'm gonna
- 13:09get to this here talking about our offense. We have to differentiate ourselves somehow
- 13:13to win close games, to overcome make make it hard to prepare for.
- 13:18And actually, as we get to our defense here in the next episode.
- 13:22I think the three three five is going to add that element to it.
- 13:26But if I was an OC and trying to do something, that's where I
- 13:28would establish myself. And then if there's the if there's the success that comes
- 13:35with that, and you can maybe elaborate a little bit off of that,
- 13:39you can, but I would stay true to the get four yards a play
- 13:46you can. You have to have a quarterback that can runs and I think
- 13:48all three of us made that made that comment for sure around there, and
- 13:52then you need to have a strong offensive line. That's I mean, the
- 13:54offensive line is the foundation of any offense you're trying to do, no matter
- 13:58if you're spreading it out, run and shooting it or ground and pound two
- 14:05tight end sets, you have to have a good offensive line. So I'm
- 14:09like seventy thirty run heavy, and I don't Jack, I don't mind.
- 14:13I like the read option stuff. I think that is a new part of
- 14:18the game that if you coach it the right way and you can really take
- 14:22advantage of defenses that way. You have to have a good quarterback back and
- 14:26read it though right And that's where it comes to the our quarterbacks back in
- 14:31the day that had legs that were reading stuff on the option and that those
- 14:35are more traditional options. And IM not saying that that's the solution in today's
- 14:39age, but I do think that heavy run game needs to be established,
- 14:46and then if you want to start getting creative a little more with some of
- 14:48the passing, you can evolve into that, but you have to be able
- 14:52to establish that upfront. So anyways, I just wanted to throw that question
- 14:56out there because kind of you knew Dak, you probably idolize Brian Ferrin's you
- 15:03know, big big old seed. No, that guy score scor zero zero
- 15:11points a game three, I'd probably do you remember a couple of episodes ago
- 15:16when you guys said Iowa I didn't score seventeen points a game a year.
- 15:20Yep, I looked it up. They did last year. No way,
- 15:24seventeen points a game last year, all right, And that's funny because they
- 15:33had a better st record than we did. And what I'm to score describing
- 15:39Austin Will maybe a little bit like that. They're very run heavy, but
- 15:43I don't know. That's that's why it's kind of hard, because I feel
- 15:46like you're closer to like Wisconsin more than Iowa. Wisconsin not this year's Wisconsin
- 15:52right years past, and then like Minnesota probably is a Minnesota. Minnesota is
- 15:56a good one to think about because I think they do get dynamic with some
- 16:02different options that they run with their quarterback and sometimes shotgun. Yes, he
- 16:07for him a bench or whatever. What was the running back. He became
- 16:15polish there until he got hurt. Ye. So yeah, Marcus Satterfield,
- 16:22we don't know what he's gonna do exactly what he's done in the past.
- 16:25It's been established and well, this is Husker media reporting this. So of
- 16:30course it's gonna try to make everybody happy because that's what they do. But
- 16:34it's gonna be physical. It's gonna utilize running backs, tight ends. It's
- 16:37gonna bring back a full back because I got everybody crazy, the same fans
- 16:41that wanted us to go and spread it out with Billy Callahan now on a
- 16:45full back back. Interesting, but it's gonna be a pro stile offense.
- 16:51That's gonna be in my mind, I'm taking it is very simple, very
- 16:55simplified, very basic. But knowing that it starts up front and you have
- 17:00to be physical, I think that's a great starting point. We'll see how
- 17:06it looks with the players that we have, that's the question, because no
- 17:08matter what system or style you're trying to do, it's gonna be hard to
- 17:12get all those players in year one to fit that system exactly and for us
- 17:17to use that excuse for about four years. So we'll see how it goes
- 17:22in year one, and it could have a wide variety of stuff. We
- 17:25don't know. We don't know what it's gonna look like. But with the
- 17:26players that we have, that's what he's done in the past, so we'll
- 17:32see. That's always intrigued in getting a new OC and a new quarterback because
- 17:37those are the two key pieces of an offense. Oddly enough, the only
- 17:41thing that's going to remain mostly the same is the offensive line. Yeah,
- 17:48yep. So I'm gonna go through a list. So we talk about recruiting
- 17:53some I'm gonna go through the list on the offensive side of the ball of
- 17:56key departures and then arrivals from the transfer portal, because every year it's no
- 18:03longer like three or four guys, it's we're gonna have this big old team.
- 18:07So I want you to think about this list. Austin, you for
- 18:11sure, Dak if you know some of these players great. Actually, I'm
- 18:15gonna ask you, Dak your question to think and ponder on. Right now,
- 18:18is Casey Thompson's verst. Jeff sins, oh, I can't oh,
- 18:22I can't wait. So the departures that left our offense from last year,
- 18:29Casey Thompson went to Florida Atlantic, Logan Smothers in the portal, Richie Torres
- 18:33in the portal, so losing three quarterbacks. Aj Allen running back went to
- 18:37Miami. So that speaks I think a little bit to his talent that he
- 18:42has going to another school running back to quez Yant going to Florida A and
- 18:49M. A couple of wide receivers actually a big list of wide receivers here.
- 18:53Victor Jones went to Liberty, Sean Hardy, Evan Meyer, Stickmante Grimes,
- 19:00d coolb This Crawford leaving to Louisiana Tack. That'll be fun we play.
- 19:06Then Alante Brown went to Michigan State, the big one went across conference
- 19:11and then tight end James Carney from Norris is in the portal. And then
- 19:17two offensive lineman Kevin Williams went to Charlotte and our boy, Brandt Banks went
- 19:22to Rice you also left off Trey Palmer graduated out. Yeah, I guess
- 19:29I'm doing portal. Okay, I didn't know if you're just doing departures or
- 19:32just portal. Yeah. I have some thoughts about the offense here that I
- 19:37wrote down, Well, what role we're gonna get into it, we're getting
- 19:42through the are these overarching offensive comments or this? Nope, like about the
- 19:48quarterback? Okay, let's get through the arrivals and I'll let you let you
- 19:52lose, all right, So arrivals from the portal, there's fourteen guys that
- 19:57left, some key people, some that didn't do anything. Arrivals Jeff Simms
- 20:03from Georgia Tech art Gilbert the number one tight end from the twenty twenty class.
- 20:10He's a five star, has moved from LSU to Florida to Georgia now
- 20:14to Nebraska. Wider seebers Billy Kemp from Virginia and Josh Fleaks from Baylor.
- 20:22And then offensive lineman Tyler, who I think that says Krook can't remember writing,
- 20:30Jacob Hood from Georgia, and center Ben Scott, who's projected to be
- 20:33the starting center here from Arizona State. I think the pieces we brought in
- 20:37are going to be contributors as they probably should be. You don't. You're
- 20:40not gonna bring in people that aren't gonna ever play, So, Dak,
- 20:47I'll let you lose because you probably didn't know a lot of those names.
- 20:48But I know you know Casey Thompson and I know you know Jeff Simms.
- 20:52So you just let it lose here, all right. I think I think
- 20:57Casey was by far the better quarterback. I think you guys should respect with
- 21:03him. He over over Jeff Sims. Oh, buy a mile, Wow,
- 21:10buy a mile. Last year, Jeff Sim's stats were five touchdowns,
- 21:12three picks. You you throw me on the field, I'll do that.
- 21:18Yeah. But wait, what's your take that you always said last year that
- 21:27you could go seventeen for forty one or something in an NFL game, fourteen
- 21:33for thirty two. Hey, wow, you are confident For somebody who sucks
- 21:41at golf, I don't know how well you do at football. Didn't you
- 21:44throw a football in the tailgates last year? Not a chance. You're really
- 21:49banking on the six foot four receivers being able to have the catch radius.
- 21:53D No, that's that's the thing, is what I'm saying is I could
- 21:56throw it up fourteen times and they'll catch it. All right, get back
- 22:03to your case, Okay, okay. Anyway, So I think I think
- 22:07Casey is by far the better quarterback. I don't know what Rule wants to
- 22:11run. He probably wants to run a little more pro style offense running the
- 22:15ball, so I Sam's might be better for him. Jeff Simms is definitely
- 22:23more of a hybrid mobile quarterback, whereas Casey was a better pocket passer,
- 22:30probably dak. How do you think that situation went down? Rule gets hired
- 22:37and brings in Jeff Simms pretty early. I mean, how does talk me
- 22:41through Casey's situation? I think I think Rule comes in and he's like,
- 22:51I want to run like a pro style offense, and he wants to be
- 22:53like the Big ten. He wants to run under center, full back,
- 22:57running back and just have a running team, and Casey's not that he's shotgun
- 23:03quarterback and throw the ball all around. How do you balance that? Though?
- 23:07As a coach, like you said, we shouldn't have got rid of
- 23:11Ksey Thompson, which we didn't really get rid of him. He chose to
- 23:14go in the portal because of because he wasn't gonna start right, So how
- 23:18do you how do you balance? Is Rules supposed to change his philosophy because
- 23:22of Kasey Thompson. Is that what you're saying? Yeah, I would have
- 23:26that's the rule. That is what Rule came in and said. He's like,
- 23:30I have a system I want to do, but we're going to modify
- 23:32it for the talent we have. Casey Thompson's that good that we should someone
- 23:37should change their entire philosophy of what they do to go around him. Well,
- 23:42I wouldn't take Jeff Jeff Sims. I'll tell you that if I'm okay,
- 23:49So this is this. The thing is, so if sim comes if
- 23:52Sims comes in and he can't throw the ball, this one of my notes.
- 23:57Do you just say fuck it? Run triple option? Yes? I
- 24:04actually, I mean how bad of a thorny you think? Is? He
- 24:10had five touchdown three picks last year. That's that's pretty bad games, all
- 24:15of them. He started every game. We only have five touchdowns. Yes,
- 24:22I believe he's I believe there are some injuries in there somewhere. Maybe
- 24:26not if if if you come out and you get first two games, he
- 24:33can't pass the ball, why don't you say fucking run triple option? And
- 24:37that could happen. This is what I think Rules doing and what he's done
- 24:42in the past, and there's a reason why Temple and Baylor now call it
- 24:48what you want. Those programs are both at rock bottom and going through stuff
- 24:52too. But I think Rule comes in and says, I know, this
- 24:56is my philosophy, this is my system, and it works, so I'm
- 25:00willing to sacrifice stuff right now. Now. I know we came out and
- 25:03said I'm going to adapt to the players that we have. There is still
- 25:06a level of that, but he is going to set his standards and his
- 25:11philosophy here up front, and that's why I think year one has been rough
- 25:15for him at a couple of different places, and then it turns around.
- 25:21I think that's what Husker fans are going to have in the back of their
- 25:23mind too, depending how this year goes. Obviously, if we win seven
- 25:26or eight games, we're going to be thrilled, as we probably could with
- 25:30our schedule, believe it or not. But when we win five, four
- 25:34or five, which I think is right, thing's going to really happen.
- 25:37Like people are gonna say, okay, like that was year one that rules
- 25:41getting his system, and then year two or three we're gonna see, really
- 25:47hopefully the product of the decision he made, for example, to get rid
- 25:51of Casey or start Jeff Simms, who, as Dak's pointing out, might
- 25:56not be the best passer. I think that's seven games. It's seven games,
- 26:00not that those numbers are great for seven games, but back check,
- 26:10he did have so he played Jack. Your look on your face right now,
- 26:12you're just a glazed the hair. No, I'm I'm thinking he's thinking
- 26:18of coming down from a buzz one of these two. No, I'm thinking,
- 26:22wait, so so the big ten Dame change for the Oskars or what
- 26:26not with Frost, but they will rule. Now, I'm just kidding.
- 26:33I'm probably with you in the sense that Jeff Sim's not gonna be as good
- 26:37as we expect him to be. But I have to feel better about it
- 26:45because he was kind of like the hand picked quarterback by rule, and he
- 26:48was a very high transfer portal quarterback ranking. I don't I'm not expecting anything
- 26:56to blow us out of the water from Jeff Jeff Simms. And this kind
- 26:59of goes back off your comment about not relying on your quarterback. I don't
- 27:03think they this offense wants to. I think they want him to be able
- 27:07to have the ability to make some plays. But I don't think it's going
- 27:11to be a quarterback heavy type of offense that we're running here. And on
- 27:15top of that, if we are running him more our backups. We mentioned
- 27:22losing Smothers and Torres, but we have Heinrich Harberg and Schevor Burder. So
- 27:30I'm and if you looked at every Division one team out there, there's not
- 27:33many teams that have quarterback depth. Well, we talked about just the Big
- 27:37ten alone, the quality of quarterback and the Big ten or the quality of
- 27:41Big ten starter back. We t well, the hell you look at up
- 27:47I don't mean to bring up Home again. But last year there, their
- 27:49starter got knocked out. They lost Texas forty nine zero. So they have
- 27:53no depth. Yeah, that's true, So I'm not It is a little
- 27:59bit more more of a concern when you do have a running quarterback. But
- 28:03at the same time, we've seen these other two guys play, they've played
- 28:08in games before, not not seeing either one of them more spectacular, but
- 28:11they could hold the fort for I think what we're trying to do with this
- 28:15offense. Now we got to move on here to get to some of these
- 28:18other positions. Let's go up front to our offensive line, Dak. That
- 28:22was one of your keys to a successful football team is getting your Carker in
- 28:29walking down that right right guard spot. Let's let's go through this quickly here.
- 28:36At center, Ben Scott, he's could be one of our best linemen.
- 28:40Also, Nordine Neweli at left guard. I've heard We've heard a lot
- 28:45of good things about him in camp. He's supposed to be our starting center
- 28:48last year before getting zapped for performance enhancing drugs. Correct Ethan Piper is that
- 28:56right guard, most likely Bryce ben Hart most at right tackle. Teddy Perhoska
- 29:03in Turner Corkoran are two other guys. I think Corkoran is probably gonna start
- 29:07at left tackle. I think Teddy we're gonna need to find a place for
- 29:11him, but he's so injury prone if he can stay already got nicked up
- 29:15in camp right he has, and there's a chance he might not even play
- 29:18Week one. We brought in Jacob Hood from Georgia. Henry Latovski's a sophomore.
- 29:25Gunnar Gunnartal is a freshman. We have some guys, we have some
- 29:30names, but some names that we just have flat out sucked over the last
- 29:37couple of years. And I'll keep it short here and quick. I hate
- 29:41that are height of our line. Bryce Bennart six fucking nine and Teddy Perhoska
- 29:47six. That drives me insane. You don't need basketball centers out there on
- 29:53your offensive line. Now. I think the benefit of that is probably in
- 29:56pastor because they're a little longer armed. Do you get a little more reach.
- 30:00But if we're gonna run the ball and I don't like it, I
- 30:04don't like it at all. You don't have a passing quarterbacks, so why
- 30:07would you need that exactly? So I think our offensive lines in a world
- 30:11of hurt this year again and we'll see how it pans out. But we
- 30:18didn't. It's not like we brought in any studs. And maybe Noordine Noeli,
- 30:22like the Husker media is trying to say, he's gonna be our saving
- 30:23grace and come in, Well, that's one guy Ben Scott too. We
- 30:27haven't seen either one of those guys play. We've seen one that'll probably be
- 30:30playing left card. You know, it's god, It just it's gets insane.
- 30:34We're probably gonna suck here again and win four or five games because of
- 30:40that. So that's all I got. No line, I don't. We're
- 30:42gonna talk about him every fucking podcast because of how bad they go. Ethan
- 30:48Piper was the one sent to Big ten media days. I know that.
- 30:51That also tells me we're gonna win four games. We said, Ethan Piper
- 30:55to media days, unbelievable. I'll me how you really feel Hunter, any
- 31:02other offensive line comments, I don't want to talk about. None of them
- 31:04got a single jersey, so they must all be weak. Well, I
- 31:08will say this. I know I just talked a lot of crap on him.
- 31:11Prove me wrong, Prove us, Prove the people that don't believe in
- 31:15you're wrong, because it starts up there on the offense. If we have
- 31:18a successful offense, it's gonna be because of you, and I'm not.
- 31:21We're not going to give credit to anybody else. I won't. I'll give
- 31:23credit to the offensive line. Prove us wrong and show us that you can
- 31:26do it. We'll prove me wrong, Benhart, you suck just single a
- 31:32single guys, Piper, Okay, running back touch on them here deepest position,
- 31:41it's gonna be Anthony Grand or Gabourvin most likely starting. Don't know.
- 31:47Anthony Grant is a senior. Urban's a sophomore coming off the injury, but
- 31:52the pictures of him look like he's a freak. I don't think it matters
- 31:56if you don't have an offensive line former. Johnson's also or two in the
- 32:00mix. Three guys I think, I think three solid running backs. They're
- 32:06not they're not elite, top tier guys, but they're solid. They're solid
- 32:09guys. They're really good running backs, really good. Yeah, I agree.
- 32:16No, No, I'm not worried about the running back room at all,
- 32:20No, at all. I like it. Let's move on then to
- 32:24our receivers, who I think we have a semi deep room, but maybe
- 32:31you m young or guys that we just haven't seen play a lot. Starting
- 32:37with a young wide receivers coach, Dak, I think you're older than our
- 32:40wide receivers. Coach, are you're right around his age twenty four? Yep,
- 32:47believe it or not, you could be coaching the Husker wide receivers this
- 32:51year. I should be. Yeah. So Marcus Washington, he's banged up
- 32:58with some injuries, but I think he's gonna be potentially our just safe,
- 33:05solid guy out there. Billy Kemp is going to be our playmaker. He's
- 33:08gonna be the guy that we're gonna need to break free like Trey Palmer did
- 33:13over the past couple of years. Those kind of guys. We're gonna need
- 33:16a couple of those here for big plays somehow, and I think he's gonna
- 33:20be the one to do it. He's small, he's five nine, so
- 33:23he's like a lot of these guys, the lawn Dale's that we've seen in
- 33:28the past. He's gonna have to have a big year, I think for
- 33:30us to have. He wants to play slide or what's he gonna play.
- 33:35He's more of a slot kind of guy. Years away from a retirement home
- 33:38too, so that should help too. Yes, he's your senior. He
- 33:44is a senior coming from Virginia. He's a sixty year senior, not just
- 33:47a senior man. And he didn't last year he had sixteen catches for one
- 33:52hundred and sixteen yards. I don't know the details of what happened a couple
- 33:55of years. If you look back at his stats the years before that,
- 33:59there are a lots more promising, but last year it looked like he might
- 34:04have been banged up last year too, But he's gonna be a key piece.
- 34:07Xavier Betts he's back, crazy son of a bitch. I think he
- 34:14did it. Who knows what happened with him last year, but he's back.
- 34:17Maliki Coleman actually our tallest receiver, six four. The freshman out of
- 34:23Lincoln East, Isaiah Garcia Castaneda was gonna transfer. He's back. He's back,
- 34:31and apparently he's been having a good camp. And then Josh Fleeks,
- 34:35the Baylor transfer that we brought in. I think we'll also be seeing some
- 34:38playing time out there. I would say it's gonna be those six. We'll
- 34:43see how much we use him. We talked about Jeffson's maybe isn't a great
- 34:45throwing quarterback. We'll see. We'll see a lot of speed, a lot
- 34:51of speed. I will say that, maybe not a lot of possession.
- 34:53Guys tight end position. I think it could be any one of these three.
- 34:58I think Nate, Nate Mork he's having a great camp. Thomas Pedoni
- 35:04to see if we can see the result result of him. Wait, I
- 35:07got I got something say about him? Yeah, go ahead, he said.
- 35:10He says he's one of the best Titans in the nation. I mean,
- 35:15he was ranked one of the best tight ends of the nation. He
- 35:19hasn't played since, but it isn't availability the best available, The best ability
- 35:23is availability. Uh yeah, I probably agree with that. He's just tooking
- 35:30a couple of years to beat up. You know, Titans are never great.
- 35:32The first year I heard an interesting stat. I can't remember where I
- 35:37heard. This is a couple of weeks ago that from twenty like it's like
- 35:43two thousand and two to two eighteen, the number one ranked tight end coming
- 35:49out of high school had been drafted in the top three rounds of the NFL
- 35:53Draft every single year, something like that, top four. I don't know
- 35:58the exact stat. We have two of those guys on our team right now,
- 36:01and Art Kilbert and TONI. Yeah, well we also had two tight
- 36:06ends. I got drafted with oh shit, what was her name? We
- 36:08got drafted the Bengals started with the seed I'm not gonna remember Carter, Sethan
- 36:15carterethan Carter. What do we do with him? Jack? Shit? Man?
- 36:22Oh? Lastly, how is that bow or was that Mike Rawley?
- 36:25That Mike Ley. That was our good, good grandpa frand Mike uh full
- 36:31back on the depth chart this year, guys, it is on there.
- 36:37Generian Bonner is the number one guy right now, freshman, but he's on
- 36:43the roster. So we'll see what we do with the full back position.
- 36:49Overhype. We're not going to use the full back that much. Calling it
- 36:52right now, I don't know. I'm I'm thinking run the triple option,
- 36:55like I'm not lying, I'm not laying. I'm gonna laugh when we pull
- 37:01that out against Michigan against Harbaugh, like just out of the blue. If
- 37:06Jess him sucks at throwing, why not just throw a triple option out,
- 37:10Dak. You should write a letter to Matt Rule and tell him that,
- 37:15I mean, give me his address and I will. I'll go and hand
- 37:17deliver it to him. And all right, the wide receiver coach, we
- 37:27we'll be back on Sunday. We'll talk about the defense. Go through key
- 37:31rivals, departures, go through our depth chart with three, three, five,
- 37:37go Bigrette, GVR Boomer. Sooner they knew you're gonna do it.
